Connecticut Beaches

Open at 5:00 am. Excelent for early morning relax and long walks. Later on with family after 10;00 am there are many people. Don’t forget to pay the parking

Comfortable Lazy Connecticut Beach

By Bill R |

Walnut Beach is one of Milford, CT's "town beaches". It has minimal facilities (restrooms / rinsing showers), but is easy to get to, clean and reasonably quiet. The parking is adequate, and boardwalk-type access makes it handicapped accessible.
Milford residents park at no charge with current sticker, but non-residents have to pay a $15/day fee (2016 rate), which is the same as neighboring Silver Sands State Beach. Especially at low tide, the water level is very low (a few inches to a foot or so for a long way out (really good for the little ones). A rocky bottom near high-tide line gives way to a flat and sandy footing. For adults (or kids) with sensitive feet, swim shoes are suggested. Lifeguards are generally on duty Memorial Day through Labor Day. The "village" of Devon (a borough of Milford) is nearby with various shops and services. How about a day at the beach, lunch at Lazy Lobster, and a creamy cone at Walnut Beach Creamery -- all a walk away.

Dont miss out on this beach

By Tracy F |

We live minutes from Walnut and LOVE this beach. It is not as crowded as Silver stands and easily accessible, parking is close to beach making it easy to get to the sand w/out walking a mile.
Lifeguards are on duty during season and are very attentive. There are lots of local activities, on the beach is volleyball and nearby you can rent paddle boards or scooters and the local food and ice cream shop is delicious.
Beach is great and family friendly but there are adult parts as well. We LOVE this beach!

Beautiful day. Perfect fall day weather. Brought sandwiches for a picnic. Couldn't have asked for a nicer day. Nice boardwalk. Great way to spend some time and do nothing.

Great beach & walkway

By Patricia C |

Nice beach for families, some food trucks available in summer, easy walk from parking lot to beach, restrooms and pavilion Great access to the beach walkway to Silver Sands beach

Pleasant beach

By scuba077 |

With "constructed walkway" linking Walnut Beach thru Silver Sands Park, very pleasant and scenic. Probably needs repair after last two storms which caused some damage to the walkway. Beach has good parking and facilities.

By tom m |

Nasty water and grindstone type sand. Smells like low tide all the time. No waves at all and a rocky sea floor. No bathrooms. Just walk there for exercise but DONT go in the water; closed 14 times for bacteria by state health officials. There is a pavilion where bands play in warm months but this is not a place for swimming at all.

Weekend in Milford Ct

By leelee533 |

Rented a house through Air BnB a short walk from Walnut Beach. It was spectacular. The beach was covered in colored shells. But plenty of soft sand to dig your toes in. You can walk to Charles Island at low tide - a 14 acre island part of Silver Sands State Park. New boardwalks are in place and it is super clean. There are pizza shops, ice cream, liquor store nearby. but not tourist trappy like most seaside beaches. I look forward to going again.

Love!

By Lizzie1122 |

I was raised on this beach my entire life. I love the boardwalk that has been added connecting it to silver sands, but I do miss the challenge that it use to be. Soft clean sand and not a lot of rocks!

Beautiful Beach

By Joe D |

Very beautiful beach. Easy parking. Only exception was no dogs allowed on beach in off season. Feel there should be a small area for them to enjoy the beach

Warm water and soft sand

By Nick |

Been here twice in 2 weeks. Overall the beach was great. Sand is soft, hardly any rocks or shells to step on. And with the right tide, the water recedes about 100 yards. It's pretty cool. Would give 5 stars if they had a place to buy food other than a food truck. Fills up by 1 in afternoon. Cheap parking if your a non Milford resident. 50 minutes from Danbury.

Great place for beach goers

By Govexec |

The is a lot of parking and beach front to spread out along with an island to visit at low tide. Fun place for all family members

Very nice beach

By chris p |

This is an amazing beach with clean sands plenty of parking and a great boardwalk located in milford Ct

Explanation

By Debi M |

For the criticism about being allowed to travel to Milford and spend money on a hotel, but not be allowed into the beach, we are in the midst of a pandemic and that is why our beaches are for residents only. Otherwise you would pay a $20 entry fee and enjoy the beach.

nice boardwalk

By Vincent Z |

the beach is coming back from Hurricane Sandy and is almost there. the boardwalk to Silver Sands was damaged and in the process of being rebuilt

Best Beach in Milford!

By willistheman |

Best sand and beach in Milford! Almost rockless especially by comparison to the others. The boardwalk is a very nice scenic walk (perfect for photographers). I enjoyed taking a walk from walnut beach to the Walnut Beach Creamery and enjoying my ice cream on the way back to the beach. The pavilion area in the front is perfect for anyone looking to have a group or big party! On a side note the bathroom facility is usually always open (unlike gulf beach and silver sands)

Love

By trici47 |

Beautiful, clean beach. We will be back!! A great surprise to us. Parking was great. Food carts available.

Beautiful! Love the boardwalk.

By roddy88 |

Great place for a stay vacation. Walk out to Charles Island. Main reason I moved to Milford. The water and the view is beautiful.

Love this beach!

By christ2010 |

Great & ample parking, just steps from the beach. Free for Milford residents, but still inexpensive for out-of-towners. I love that it's open til 10pm. Nice pier, multiple volleyball nets, lovely boardwalk.

Love the beach and the people

By pjtj2012 |

This beach is a nice beach. In my opinion one of the nicest in CT. The people are very friendly. The only down side is if you plan on staying the day you have to pay $15 to park unless you are a resident. There is street parking but it is only for two hours and the police do check.

Perfect balance of sun and dips!

By Missy G |

Awesome little beach with all the amenities. Lifeguards on duty all summer, water is clean, and sand easy to traverse at hi tide! Love this place

Great Beach!

By cathyb75 |

Pretty beach- can walk out far at low tide
Pier on site and bathrooms
No food- but usually an ice cream truck is parked there
Also a beautiful boardwalk connecting to Silver Sands beach- love to walk or jog daily there!

Unexpected beach gem in Milford, Ct

By Rickrichardson2568 |

After going to Milford Photo I passed a sign for Walnut Beach & Silver Sands State Park. I recommend Walnut Beach for a group of reasons: more things to do; not as far away from parking; bathroom facilities; proximity to boardwalks, etc. Silver Sands is interesting to walk around( a good hike), but I much prefer Walnut. It could be worth visiting Silver Sands & Walnut at sunrise & sunset for photography purposes-& keep an eye on low & high tides to try to walk across to Charles Island if that is viable then. Water shoes are worth bringing

Breathtaking View

By S N |

Gorgeous view of the water and nature! Beautifully maintained board walk. You can see tons of fish and turtles in the water. The subset was exceptional!

Favorite place on the planet

By Jane M |

I love Walnut Beach beaches are beautiful the boardwalk is great they have bands on Sundays in the summer it's just a great place to spend the day

At the Beach with Friends

By Dorothy T |

My friends and I decided to go to Walnut Beach I only visited this beach a couple of times this summer we went one evening played volley ball and had a good time its a very well kept beach very clean I recommend it

Top

By Cripida D |

Top place, you can't missing this nice place in Milford, Connecticut, solo or couple you can go and falling in love

Not coming back..

By Candice |

I like the beach, the entrance is close, as well as the water, plenty of room. The parking for one day is 40 dollars though, very overpriced for non residents and just ruins the whole experience for you

Great Beach Day

By Cassandra M |

This beach is great! I'm sorry I didn't visit earlier in the summer. I came with my toddler and we had a wonderful beach day. It was high tide while we were there and the water was much cleaner than I am used to the Sound being. It is rocky as people have mentioned, but that's the CT shoreline I'm used to. I did see the porto potties and I am thankful I didn't need to use them. Parking was easy, but we were also here on a Thursday morning. There were no lifeguards on duty so my daughter could use her floaties and that was nice. I also didn't encounter anyone asking for money, so I didn't pay as an out-of-towner. Maybe it was my lucky day or they only charge on weekends? I'd love to go back since we weren't able to check out the boardwalk and all of the interesting shops. Can't wait to go back!

A hidden gem

By PJREILLY464 |

A great beach with bordwalk connecting to Silver Sands State Park. Certainly one of the best beaches in Ct.

great beach

By ssproutie |

nice small town beach. Very quiet, and lovely boardwalk through an avian wildlife preserve. It's close enough to go for the day, or stay for the weekend.

Beautiful beach with lots of local activities

By Kathy711 |

Walnut Beach is a must visit. The beautiful boardwalk is great exercise with spectacular views of Charles Island and the water. There are often local events at the beach like farmers markets and summer concerts. Several great shops and restaurants in the area as well.

Very nice beach - at low tide it's a lot of sandbar

By h0ylandm |

To save on a parking fee of $ 2.50/hour for a non-resident during the season, you can park at Silver Sands and walk a boardwalk of about 3/4 mile which takes you into Walnut Beach. We brought our own food and drink - didn't walk down far enough to see if there was a concession. It seemed like everyone around us did the same as in bringing their own.

BYOC

By Erica S |

Beautiful venue for a wedding reception. Oddly, the tables and chairs we reserved were missing when we arrived. The crew came through 45 minutes before guests arrived. Whew! Gorgeous location but bring your own chairs.

Beautiful beach

By AnsarMNewYork |

At the shoreline, the beach has rocks and shells that could make for a challenging walk bare feet. But otherwise clean water, no waves, quiet and peaceful all around. Very nice long boardwalk and beautiful views all around. Parking at $5 is definitely so much cheaper than many other beaches in the vicinity. There is also a fishing pier that juts out into the water.

Nice little beach

By KlymanJR |

I live approximately a half mile from this beach, and are there all summer. Love the concert series, however the lot gets crowded in the summer. Not much they could do about the parking though.

Lousy beach!

By mshann74 |

It's typical CT beach..rocky sand and dirty cold water..why would anyone want to come to a CT beach?

The water is too salty for me!

By Phillip N |

Growing up in the Midwest I am use to clean clear sweet waters of the Great Lakes. The first time I swallowed salt water, (accidently of course) I chocked for ten minutes. My wife enjoyed that experience more than I did.

Great place for concerts

By Ags2sup |

A lot going on year round summer has a weekend concert series late summer is the arts festival and the sand castle competition block party’s early spring to late fall several new businesses have recently opened

Great place all seasons!

By Chezkm |

I love walking this area; it is so serene and peaceful. The Firehouse Art Gallery is a great stop to view art.

Walnut Beach

By aidan c |

I absolutely enjoyed every visit I have made to Walnut Beach. There are so many establishments walking distance, that if you have had enough at the beach, you could just walk to a resturaunt, look in a gallery, or just explore the local businesses. There are so many great photo opportunities at Wlanut Beach, so all of you photographers should plan a trip to Walnut Beach. There is an ice cream truck in the parking lot almost everyday during the summer months. During the summer there are lots of free events and free concerts at the pavilion. There's a pear in the boardwalk at the beach. The boardwalk is great for taking walks or jogs anytime of the year.

Wonderful town beach

By cwlopi |

This beach is connected via a long boardwalk to the state beach, Silver Sands. This is a great place to bring children. Lots of sand bars at low tide, and there a several street vendors to get a quick bite or a cold drink.

it is getting better and better

By dt_gc |

With improvements they are doing around Devon, it is getting more and more fun to come there. It is a cool crowd too. Plus you can go left or right or to the sounds. lol

Great beach for families!

By CTMathTeach |

Walnut Beach, in Milford, CT, is a great spot for a family day or play date. There is ample nearby parking, both for residents and non-residents (non-residents have a fee or can park on the street for free!), bathrooms, and plenty of room on the beach to spread out and enjoy. It is a great meeting spot for families of young children, particularly at low tide, since kids are able to play and wade in the shallow water without the worry of waves or strong currents. There are lunch tables in the pavilion or eat your lunch right on the beach if the sun isn't too strong. If you are looking for a bit of exercise, there is also a well-maintained 3/4 mile boardwalk which connects to Silver Sands State Park, the next beach east, and allows for a lovely walk/run with pretty views. My family and I have created many memories at Walnut Beach with friends - it's a free, great family excursion!

Nice beach

By Sandy |

Plenty of parking and space. You will need a town parking pass during the summer, but off season, anyone can park. There's always community activities going on at the pavilion. Bathrooms available near the pavilion.

Lobsters with a view

By skip W |

Friends brought us to what was a little hidden beach village walked around, looked in the galleries. The best part: they brought us to this small hole in the wall restaurant, The Lazy Lobster, I first thought ok will sit outside have a little nosh then decide on dinner. Was I surprised when the staff grabbed some a table some chairs and walked us down to the beach, put the aforementioned furniture in the sand steps from the water. What a view! Pretty soon our server started bringing down, chowder, steam clams and mussels, crab cakes. Our hosts popped the cork on wine the bought earlier at the liquor store right across the street.

I thought this was a nice prelude to dinner. Soon after finishing steamed Maine Lobster and a huge rack of ribs along with corn on the cob and steamed potatoes were dropped off. What a treat. The sun was setting our server brought out a candle and we watched the kayakers and paddle board people come in. Didn't even need a wet wipe. Just walked down to the water and washed up. What a special night.

Best beach in Connecticut !!!!

Great fun

By Susan C |

Love this beach. There is a large pavilion with live music every Sunday in the summer. Lots of benches along the walkway. Long pier for walking and fishing. Many fun activities for all ages

Dirty unsafe water

By Jaco86 |

We have not seen such dirty water on a beach except maybe at another Connecticut beach. We would not dare to step a foot into it. It's not possible to walk on the beach bare footed for the gravel, shells, and other matter. The boardwalks are excellent but there is no ocean air to breathe-in rather something like you would smell in the vicinity of a water treatment plant.

Don't jump from the pier

By CFM |

A nice clean beach with Sunday concert series during the summer. I believe it is one of the best beaches in Milford. It stinks that the vendors near by are not the best though. They knocked down the best places to make condos.

Milford Beach

By joegU6326MT |

Beach was not all that great. No amenities.
Short beach in Stratford has all the amenities possible so that's where I ended my evening.

"Beautiful smaller beach but rocky!"

By Corina M |

One of the better beaches in Connecticut. We have been frequenting beaches in the New England area before summer ends and we head back to the west coast. There aren't very many clean or nice ones. This one was in a nice neighborhood and was well maintained. Lots of metered parking for non Connecticut residents for $2.50/hr. We stayed for 3 hours for $7.50 and that was worth it. Otherwise you pay $20 to park in the lot. Parking is close to the beach and there's a bathroom and wash area. Lots of benches with shade covering. There was only 1 ice cream truck no food ones.
There were life guards until
3:30 p.m. Lots of sharp rocks and shells entering water before it clears up. The water is very shallow, you can walk pretty far out and still be knee high. A bit murky but nice cool temperature. You can find lots of shells and it wasn't that busy at all. There is a pier you can take pictures or fish. Overall, had a pleasant day.

Walnut beach

By Morocca |

Family friendly beach. Lovely boardwalk with great views. I would recommend bringing water shoes for low tide. Can be rocky and shelly. My son cut his toe on a shell. The lifeguards were great. They cleaned it and gave us a few bandaids. There is also a place to rent kayaks and paddle boats nearby. The water is not rough, which is great for little kids and for some easy kayaking.

Beautiful!!

By Mohan G |

I have visited with 5 of my church families with kids on 4th Aug evening. It was crowded but very nice. We were playing soccer/football in beach water and walked in the sand.
small seashore area.Small and simple. You can enjoy with your family.
Good place evening walk.

Great Place

By Gumdrop Falls |

I came here today for the first time ever and I have to say it was a great place to come to. The beach was clean, it wasn't too crowded and people were pretty friendly. It is low tide for most of the day but you can go hunting for shells, hermit crabs, and crabs which is really neat. No big waves as it is the sound, but still nice none the less. Has a nice pier to go walking on, is a peaceful little place to come and relax. There are picnic tables and you can bring your own grill. It is 15 bucks for non residents bit still not that bad. Plenty of parking. I will definitely come again. I really enjoyed the day

Great town beach

By Gary K |

Walnut beach is a great town beach. It is the largest of the beaches along the coast in Milford. Out of towner parking is expensive at approximately 15 dollars per day.

Beautiful Birthday on the Beach!

By Veronica |

The beach was not overcrowded and the weather was perfect. There was a concert in the pavilion, plus walking the beach and the boardwalk made for an enjoyable day.

not a patch on UK beaches

By xelhah |

We visited in August and I don't know if the beach is usually as dirty as it was. We saw a lot of broken glass on the mile or so stretch that we walked. We were quite surprised as we were told this was a great beach to visit. The water quality was also poor, maybe we are just used to really good beaches as home here in the UK. I think if they cleaned the beach up it would be lovely and well worth a visit.

Walnut beach Milford

By Margaretohara1 |

Walnut beach is like going to a spring break unintentionally. The majority of visitors there are all 20 something year olds. There is loud music, alcohol, swearing screaming, garbage left behind and speeding through the parking lot. Not a great place for peace or children. The security is understaffed and the city of Milford is not responding to the need for more security enforcement to prevent drunken disorderly conduct. Very sad, was a nice family beach 2 years ago.

Quiet free public beach

By Beverly K |

This is a small but nice beach. There is free and paid parking. There are bathrooms, but they aren't great. The beach itself was quite clean.

Where the sky meets the sand!

By Christine S |

Though this beach requires a pass, you can park on the street and walk in. This place abounds with activities; people walking their dogs, families bicycling, walking on the boardwalk, summer concert series, pumpkin sale, summer art festival as well as swimming and sun bathing. Hurricane Sandy cartainly blew through but the damage was not as bad as Silver Sands Beach and the community did a clean-up after the storm. To find out the schedule for the coming year, go to http://www.walnutbeachassociation.com/ I love this place so much that I moved here!!

Adjacent to Silver Sands, lots of parking, great sand & boardwalk, fantastic beach

By itwasfunwhileitlaste |

I visited a half dozen beaches after dropping my child off at Smith. Walnut Beach was the best with Norwalk being the worst. Ample parking. Nice boardwalk, great sand at Walnut (Silver Sands has more rocks and shells), easy to find parking.

In the neighborhood of Walnut Beach...visit Artfish 42

By AlissaF |

Walnut Beach has a great vibe! Spend some time on the boardwalk then take a stroll past the shops. Stop in to Artfish 42 for a great variety of hand crafted treasures by local artisans. Choose from stained glass sun catchers and sea glass sea scapes. Or hand painted scarves and unique jewelry. There's something whimsical and beautiful for everyone!

Nice Beach

By 556stu |

Walnut Beach is City Owned. It is officially open from Memorial Day Weekend until Labor Day Weekend. During this time there are lifeguards, restrooms, parking is free for residents, but others have to pay unless you park on the street & walk in, Off Season is free. There's a Boardwalk that connects to Silver Sands State Park, it's about a mile long & offers nice views. Many events are held during the season.

Beautiful Beach!

By wintersinboston |

Gorgeous views of the ocean on this clean and beautiful beach. Take a walk or a run! Easily accessible, no charge for parking. Beautiful grassy areas for relaxing.

Wouldn't go back

By Sarah |

Gorgeous town with beautiful views! We visited here today, and I am sad to say that I'm very disappointed in the City of Milford. The bathroom portolet at the Marina behind the Library was beyond disgusting. It had not been cleaned in days. This is bad for Milford and bad for Connecticut. We did not stay, even though a special event was going on at the marina area today. Wouldn't you clean the portholes before an event???

Milfords little Gem!!

By Linda P |

Plenty of parking, lifeguards on duty, volleyball nets, beautiful fishing pier, and the best part....a large sandy beach, and a boardwalk connecting up to Silver Sands State park! So, if you get bored with swimming or sunbathing, you can take a lovely walk or bike ride heading towards Charles Island.

Babysitting

By Wheezie74 |

Great day for walk around the park.sunshinepark was very clean.plenty of benches to sit on.loved the way they beautified the grounds!

Nice beach walk even in the fall!

By Stephsea |

This is a nice beautiful beach area with pretty piers. If you're feeling really motivated you can walk from Walnut Beach to Charles Island/ Silver Sands State Park. It's a beautiful area!

First Beach Trip

By Rachelle B |

My husband and I were recently in Milford CT for a business trip with some pleasure. I have never been to a beach and so we traveled to Walnut Beach while in Milford for a few hours. I loved it! It was a warm enough day for me to put my feet in the ocoen water even if it was COLD. There were shells everywhere that we were able to collect to bring home for our children. The beach was clean and we enjoyed watching the wildlife from the pier. I would love to bring my family back down again when it gets warmer! It was rockier sand in spots then I would like, but the sand became softer near the water. Overall enjoyed the day greatly!

Lovely and low-key

By dustythoughts |

This nice, low-key beach is a wonderful place to watch the sunset, go for a swim or walk, or to generally enjoy the pleasant outdoor atmosphere. There’s plenty of parking, a rarity for beaches in Connecticut, and there isn’t the fuss of a state park like Silver Sands.

Really nice CT Beach

By John K |

Walnut beach is municipal beach. Parking in the main parking lot for out of towners is $25 and street parking is $2.50 an hour with a 5 minute walk to the beach. There is a fishing pier.

Great beach!

By Julia W |

I love going on the sand bars here! If you want a nice fun day go here!! I also love playing volleyball! SO MUCH FUN!! And the sand is so soft!

I love this beach!

By Grace B |

Walnut Beach is one of the nicest beaches I've been too. The water is very comfortable (because it is on the Long Island Sound) and very clean. The sand is a bit rocky, but only along the shoreline. There are lifeguards on duty, a long pier, bathrooms and parking. We had a great time!

A typical Long Island Sound beach

By OccasionalTraveler92 |

This is typical Long Island Sound Beach with rough, pebbly sand lined with broken shells. I go there about twice a year to swim, and several times a month to walk along the beach, or bicycle along the roadway. The beach is free to Milford taxpayers and only $5 for non-residents to park. Anyone can bike or walk there for free. The beach has a fishing pier, bathrooms (when they are open), a pavilion, a bocce court, set ups for volleyball during the summer, and a few picnic tables and grills. There is a boardwalk and road (closed to vehicles) linking Walnut Beach to Silver Sands.

Good beach for spend a day!

By SUTAPAN P |

I will say this is a good beach in spite of major issue with parking, we paid 15$ fir parking then had to search 30 mins for parking spot as it was already full and the guard/representative at front gate have no clue.
Beach is clean , having good restroom and food trucks and small shop for water and energy drinks. Best time to go there is before 11 am or after 3 pm.

cute shops near beach

By iminpa2 |

There is a nice uncommercial boardwalk along the beach with great views of the Long Island Sound, for walking or jogging, with a large parking lot available, for a fee or free street parking near the cluster of unique shops. You can walk from the Silver Sands State Beach.

Beautiful Area!

By Fin & Smoke |

Walnut Beach has come a long way, really building itself up over the last several years. The beach and boardwalk are beautiful, and there are great places to eat and play in the area (The Lazy Lobster restaurant is my favorite, you can go next door to Scoot and Paddle and rent a kayak or board and enjoy the water, or walk across the street to get yourself an ice cream or cupcake, yummy!!

Walnut Beach ,A nice Sound Beach

By Mike06461 |

Walnut Beach is a City of Milford Beach. Great for kids ,an expansive beach with limited facilities. Can get a little noisy at times, very popular with the local H.S. kids but they are typically well mannered. Plenty of parking, free to Milford residents with a parking sticker, fee for parking for non-residents.

Beatiful and well kept

By Wendy M |

We were on a whirl-wind visit but had to pause as we drove by this beach. Not overly crowded but it was well-maintained and obviously well loved by both the locals and visitors to the area. Nice sand and cute neighborhood with really cute shops and restaurants.

I used to wrk here as a city lifeguard back in the day

By Stephanie Anne D'Onofrio 2019 |

I loved this beach. Easy to walk to wrk here back in the day. Beautiful place to bathe & relax while taking in the sights & sounds. Much more easier to enjoy now than when I wrked this beach.

Walnut Beach

By Amanda L |

Great little beach! Clean, safe and fun for the entire family. Water is not cold!!! Affordable parking, food truck and ice cream truck.

4th of July

By Antmonie |

I love this beach. I will be going back next year. Plenty of parking. I was not to crowded. It's very clean to.

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit

By Richard S |

We visited the beach in the off season. Did not have to pay for parking. Beach was virtually empty. There was someone swimming ..... we walked along beach .... just enjoying the ocean air. There is a board walk with resting places for those limited to walking distances. Enjoyed seeing different birds in the mash areas. The weather was not unduly cold. Mid-sixties which is warm for me. Washroom facilities were clean and there appears to be plenty of parking .... although there are meters in use during busy vacation seasons.
Will return again. There is a boardwalk which is wheel chair accessible.

Walnut Beach

By Maxim D |

We paid $40 for access to the beach. Option to street park for $5 an hour. Overall a vert good beach. Pros has a private beach feel as it wasn't over crowded. Facilities are clean, easy access to outside showers. Also easy access to shops, driveable vs walkable distance. Cons, rocky water, water had lots of algae.

nice beach

By johnwagnx |

Nice beach volleyball nets and boardwalk that connect to silver sands beach. lots of space and plenty of parking

Quiet beach

By Carmen R |

Local's beach, remote, ample space, parking, facing the sound.
Nice beach for walking, picnicking. No life guards, bathroom facilities, yet chance to spend hour or day.

walnut beach

By Kathryn R |

Love this beach. I personally think it's one of the better beaches in Milford. Love the new boardwalk. Very clean....Most of the time. The only bad thing I have to say is...I wish people would pick up after themselves instead of leaving thier trash behind when they leave the beach. I think that is the case at most beaches. The pier is beautiful and the view of Charles Island is breath taking. I am lucky I can visit as much as I want being I live very close.

Clean, Family Friendly. Many children.

By Hernán S |

Nice quiet family-friendly beach. Parking for non-residents is $40/day near the beach, or $5/hour on the street. Plenty of parking. No life-guard on duty when we went, but no problem. Water was calm. Clean bathroom, and secure area. Only negative was no concession, (as far as I could tell), but no problem as we brought our own food.

September Visit

By Raymond L |

The beach is a best kept secret. Very easy to access from I-95. The area is very clean and the restrooms are equally as clean.
Tables and benches available in the shade.

Re: clean beach

By Tammy F |

Great place to bring your family. It is clean and has a beautiful boardwalk that brings you to silver sands state park.

Moms & kids beach day

By Sue |

Just went here today. we go every summer! i love this beach! very family friendly, and it's been clean every time i've ever went. life guards on duty. restrooms close by. food truck and ice cream truck in the parking lot of course. only negative, wish it had outdoor showers. that would make it even better!

Pretty

By ugh |

This beach is really pretty. Dogs aren't allowed on it because it's not safe for them. The seaweed can make them really sick if they eat it. Of course, the ocean is gorgeous. Incredible views here.

Why do people even go to Fairfield beach?

By dnegreiro |

I love this beach. It has an awesome pier it's never packed to the gills. It's not pretentious. A classic awesome beach.

Nice Beach

By Connector191668 |

Enjoyed a walk through Walnut Beach. Nice views!Parking was $20 for non residents. I opted for street meters at 2.50 per hour. The beach is clean, shells are plentiful, and the walkways go pretty far. I was surprised the boardwalk shops were not on the beach.

Quiet views in the spring season

By TravelbugMelB2015 |

We visited on a rainy, windy Sunday in late April, so the area was very quiet, but the water views were still very nice. The beach itself seems rather small, so we guessed that it gets crowded in summer season. Some locals indicated that it's not great for swimming because it's on Long Island Sound (they mentioned pollution issues), but it is nice for relaxing by the water. Parking was somewhat limited at the beach, but the lot was right at the wooden ramps over the small dunes, so not much walking was required compared to what we are used to at the south Jersey shore beaches (wide dunes and even wider swaths of beach to get to the waterline). Don't miss the Walnut Beach Creamery if you go - fabulous homemade ice cream in some unique flavors!

Beautiful!

By happyguest2007 |

Best place to walk and sit and enjoy the view and the fresh air. Plenty of places to sit and rest. Handicapped accessible too!

This was a decent beach. It was dreary and a cold November day when we were there. In warmer weather, it might get a higher rating, but I have to give an honest evaluation of our experience. We also drove up the coast, and there were other beaches we liked better. There were benches overlooking what appeared to be horseshoe pits. There was a pavilion. There was a boardwalk and dock/fishing pier.

Best Ice Cream in Milford!

By yipeevaca |

Nice place close to the beach, the staff are really nice and the ice cream is really good. I would say they have so much variety that there is something for everyone.

Awesome place!

I love walnut beach! A perfect place for your family! Nice people nice beach! Amazing time in walnut beach!!!!!! Really amazing to be! Ice cream, clean beach, and people!

Great Beach in Milford, Ct.

By ARJACT |

We really enjoy walking along the beach. It is a great place to regroup and relax. There is a pier and walking trail. The ocean views bring me back to summer as a child. There are areas to picnic and hang out with friends and family in the summer. The beach attracts all groups of people from kids to oldsters. Put it on your list. For a stress free time.

A Nice Beach with a great staff

By Douglas L |

We like Walnut better than Silver Sand (which is just on the other side of the fishing pier. The beach is especially nice at low tide, when you don't have to due with walking past the bands of pebbles and shells. The flat sand bar goes way past the fishing pier, and the water is waist deep (for adults) at low tide. The best deal is that parking is only $5 in the lot for out-of-towners, and FREE for residents and on Broadway, which is parallel to the parking lot. Go through the gate, tell the attendant and drop off your family and gear, and park on the street. Save the $5 to buy ice cream from the ice cream truck which comes around every hour or so. The staff there is very responsive. The men's room was in a bad shape when we went, the sink was clogged with vomit, and toilet overflowing. Someone reported the un-sanitary condition and two young staff showed up, apologized sincerely, and closed off the men's room. In a couple of hours when we returned, it was cleaned and smelling fresh! Young life guards were also always patrolling the wide beach, walking along the waterline, watching out for trouble, Cudos to the staff on duty on July 6th, 2013!

Sumer Sundays Live Music by the Beach

By Don H |

During the summer the Walnut Beach Association hosts live music every Sunday 4 - 7pm at the pavillion. Great fun! Each week is a different band. Billy Joel covers, 70s, 80s, swing, rock, disco.... Like a Box of Chocolates- you never know what you're going get, but it's always fun and free. Dancing is encouraged as are donations to the assocation.
Great for families, couples, friends, solo....
There are a couple of food/ice cream trucks. Bring your own cooler, chairs, beach blankets. Sit under the pavilion or on the grass in the sun.
They run rain or shine unless it's severe weather.
Parking in the lot is available to residents and street parking is available to others.
This is NOT a raucous party place for lots of noise and alcohol. Be courteous to all others in attendance.

Favorite place on earth,

By Jane M |

Favorite place on earth, beach is huge, clean and beautiful
The sandbar goes on for miles, perfect view of Charles Island

Excellent, Early Covid not as much

By TreeCT |

This city beach is a blessing to tax payers who pay for. I can go to get away for 5 or 10 minutes or stay all day. Silver Sands State park is next door. It is "free" for Conneticut residents who paid their car registration.
I can go year round. I can by myself or with others. Asking for a date from a resident is not a good idea. My last picture I can not get to the wat you have this set up.

The best little beach

By rjfurce |

Nice local spot, volleyball, sand castles, kite flying and just all types of summer fun. Great boardwalk to walk and summer hide away.

Nice Beach

By Karlpizza |

You can visit it in the winter too and it is very relaxing. In the summer it is mostly a family beach. It's fairly popular and you can walk to Silver Sands from it.

A true treasur

This is a great beach on Long Island Sound!Farmers market on Thursdays and live music on Sunday afternoon during the summer

Love this beach

By Kristin H |

They really are doing great things at this beach, from the Pumpkins on the Pier to the little town itself.

Resident

Fabulous concert series every Sunday afternoon 4--7pm in the summer right at the beach. Listen and dance to the best Ct cover bands. Go early. Enjoy the beach and swimming. Then top off your day and weekend with free live music. You will love it!

Nice family beach

By 579dianneo |

We walked the beach at low tide and took advantage of the chance to walk the path to Charles island while the ridge of sand and rock was above water. It was a fun outing for our young grandkids on a sunny afternoon.

Nice beach

By Robert J |

Nice beach to hang out on during the summer... beach is soft for CT and people who go there are usually nice and just there to enjoy the beach and not ruin for anyone else.

One of the best in area

By Robert K |

This is an excellent beach for a few reasons: 1. It’s sandy, and quite nice sand by CT standards, 2. Lots of amenities, live music, beach volleyball, etc. 3. The 1+ mile boardwalk, which is a phenomenal place to walk the shore.

Walnut Beach

By TreeCT |

Walnut Beach is a Milford Beach and requires stickers. They do have passes for out of towners. I am not sure what they cost. There is also street parking for no fee. There is a nice boardwalk that is near the water that will bring you to Silver Sands State Park. The area where Walnut Beach is growing as an arts community. I live nearby so my visits are frequent.A food truck is available in the summer.

Beach bum

By Wil21Rod |

An awesome beach! Quiet, not crowded, clean and the boardwalk is great to go for a walk. Family oriented and mostly locals. Con- no nearby restaurants so pack your lunch.

Pretty Area

By wmcap33 |

A lovely town beach on the Long Island Sound. there is a boardwalk which is marked for mileage walked, a large elevated fishing pier, nice sand and dunes- ample parking and tons of shells. We definitely were off season as we made a quick stop in mid April but it was a nice diversions and opportunity for some lovely scenery and perspective on the Long Island Sound which we had not scene before. Looked like it has the possibility of being a pretty busy venue on a warm summer day!

Beautiful views

By janicev656 |

Nice place for a walk down to silver sands. Volleyball games going on during the summer and some summer events.

Gorgeous in state Vacation Destination to CT shore!

By Meta C |

Always fun in this community. Farmers Market on Thursdays 4-7. Summer concerts on Sunday nights and sand castle building, great little shops and beautiful views. Something for everyone

nice place

By CarolTop |

Very nice place with lots of seasonal events. Been here many times, grew up in this town. Lots of great beaches including walnut beach. Concerts in the summer time, Pumpkins on the Pier in the fall, lovely board walk along the beach to Silver Sands State Park with views of Charles island and the Milford shoreline.

Good Boardwalk

By Rajendran H |

This place has excellent boardwalk and facilities for beach volley ball. Love to hang out with friends!!

Great Sand

By Wendy C |

Great local beach. Nice white sand. Walking distance from the Walnut Beach Creamery (fantastic home made ice-cream).

A GEM OF A LITTLE BEACH AT ONE END OF THE BOARDWALK IN MILFORD, CT

By APur2008 |

I really like it. Very calm and peaceful. Take my grandson there!! My daughter happens to live there and its great! They have concerts in the summer and also sandcastle contests...great for kids. A very safe place. The boardwalk is an added bonus to walk to the state Park.

nice beach but...

By edd310 |

last visit was in the afternoon. there was a german shepard running loose everywhere. when it ran up to me, the person who seemed to be with it smiled to say not to worry...dog is friendly. the beach had several young children playing in the water and on the sand. woman was holding a beer bottle.
not far away is gulf beach also in milford. seems like you don't need a sticker to park along the edge of the beach. it was a weekend day and early afternoon. half the cars did not have stickers.
people fish at these beaches. on several occasions were sat between the life guard stands and swam in between and this was before 5:00. people still approached these areas with their rods to set up and fish in the same area...so we are swimming with the lines. disturbing that someone next to us found a hook in the water where child was playing.
beach days have been pleasant but half my visits to the beach this summer included circumstances as those mentioned above.

Fun

By Pamela p |

The walk on the boardwalk, the pier and sitting on the beach was just what we needed to relax. It was a warm beautiful day midweek with only a few people enjoying the beach.

Why I love Walnut Beach

By Marco B |

People are amazing here. The community is awesome and everyone treats you like a neighbor. I love the warm feeling of this beach. If you feel like going to southern Connecticut, don't miss out on Walnut Beach.

Find sea glass at Walnut beach

By Lee6925 |

Walnut beach is a small community in Milford with a long stretch of beach attached to a boardwalk with a lovely pier. You can often find people wander to the shops to get some ice cream at the Creamery and wander down the beach looking for seaglass. There is a surf shop there that will take you out for lessons of all types everyday and they have some great things to buy. Favorite shop is Artfish 42 a quaint eclectic shop with goodies from local artisans avail and wonderful shop owners to chat with who know the area very well. Walnut beach has a third thursday night event that you should check out as well, its always something different and fun!

Walk on the boardwalk

By babs6253 |

Walk on the boardwalk Is wonderful. The beach is also raked and cleaned frequently. The scenery of Long Island sound is so beautiful as you take your walk

Prefer over the further south areas

By MominOC |

Very walkable paths in this area. They had bathrooms, parking and a food truck during our mid-week visit. Small sandy area that was very clean. Normal people living around this beach area. Spend some time walking here is our recommendation.

Clean with bathrooms close by

By WillW0rk2Travel |

Parking is $15 for nonresidents. That is about the only thing I can complain about at Walnut Beach. It is close by and a much better option than driving to Rhode Island. It's not the biggest beach but I found there was plenty of room. The parking lot is close by and bathrooms as well. I recommend this beach for families and friends.

Bad experience ever

By Maricela A |

Very disappointed with mildford CT so is ok to welcome visitors and travelers stay and pay for hotels but walnut beach is open only for residents and also same bud experience with states parks every thing close on July 4 so why the allowed hotels open and host visitors from outside So I spend my weekend in a hotel that also has a lot of restrictions please be honest with travelers be clear with plans and restrictions

Nice little place to visit.

By Davina Deveraux |

Literally asked Siri for the closets beach and we were taken to Walnut Beach. It’s definitely not what we’re used to. The water is definitely on the murky side. But it was nice experiencing the calm waves. And mostly the people, we meet so very many nice people in Connecticut. Our daughter didn’t swim, but just found a bunch of sea shells.
Overall. It was a nice experience.

Nice beach!

By Robin N |

A very nice beach. Liesbvery close to downtown Milford.

Nice sand and hot water.

Lifeguards is available if needed.

Good beach to frequent

By turnkeyloan |

I am a lifelong Milford resident and this is one of my favorite beaches. During the summer there are free Sunday concerts from 4 to 7 pm. There is a parking charge for visitors without a resident sticker. The boardwalk starts here and goes to Silver Sands State Park. I like the sand here better than at Silver Sands as it suffered less damage from Irene and Sandy storms. There are bathrooms and picnic coverings. There is a big pavilion which can be reserved through the City of Milford. Free parking for residents with a sticker.

Quaint, Funky area!

By AndrewBeach |

A cute part of Milford--lovely beach with some shops, stores, arts and crafts, an excellent ice cream spot and the community has lots of little festivals, concerts, activities. Special little place!

Fun things to see and do

By TheEasyVegan |

Besides being a nice sandy beach, there are often folks zipping around on wind skis to watch. This is also the location for an annual sand sculpture contest, which is quite a marvel. A new boardwalk also connects to the spectacular Silver Sands State Park just up the coast (although the boardwalk is closed for repairs in summer 2013 after SuperStorm Sandy; too bad also because you can park free at Silver Sands and then walk to Walnut; otherwise I believe there is a parking fee at Walnut during the summer). From Walnut you can also leave the park and walk on the pleasant street all the way to the Audubon Center (free) at the western tip of Milford on the Housatonic River.

Great beach!

By Megan S |

The beach here is great at all times of the year. The boardwalk that connects Walnut Beach to Silver Sands is definitely my favorite part of the beach! The water is usually extremely calm and during low tide you can walk out very far.

Fun area

By ShiraFusionTravel |

I love the small shops, the kayaking, the beach, the occasional music festivals here. The locals are really nice and there is a frequent bus from here to downtown Milford. I recommend if visiting there to try the local ice cream parlor and having a nice walk around while visiting the Art Galleries

Beautiful Sunset

By amsteketee |

We stopped here for a quick after-dinner stroll, and the shell-covered beach was beautiful. As it was a weeknight, the beach was nearly empty. The boardwalk, which is apparently new, was a great spot to see the sunset on a clear night. The one negative experience, however, was the fact that the one port-a-potty in sight was full--right up to the rim yuck! So, use the restroom before going, or search the beach for another one.

Nice Visit

By Glenn F |

Came here on the recommendation of a family member...was a great visit! Quiet beach, nice view and water was great! As out of towners we did pay a$15 parking fee but it was worth it!

Good for walking

By Subhajit Bharadwaj |

Good place to walk.people surf but no waves.no sand beached but rocks and pebbles all around.parking limited and you need permit

Beautiful Sunset

By Andres C |

I only came here to shoot the sunset during the off season. There was plenty of parking for residents and non residents alike. The drive in is easy and dreamers can admire all the beautiful homes on the way in.

There’s a pier that makes for nice photos as well.

Initially, there’s a fishy smell, but maybe it was just that particular day. It “goes away” or you get used to it if you’re there long enough.

Terrible

By Mario L |

I am very disappointed with Milford city in general, I don’t understand why they let visitors to travel here stay in hotel and they have restrictions for all amenities for visitors I just tried to spend my weekend here with family and We were not allowed to enter any beach, or state park no grills area and basically I’ve been driving all day July 4 looking for a place to spend and relax

Google Maps will get you lost!!!

By ridgebac |

Google Maps will get you lost if you search for "Walnut Beach, Milford, CT".

Search for "113 East Broadway, Milford, CT".

If you don't search with the street address, you will end up at a residential house about 1 mile from the beach. This has been going on for 3 yrs now and google won't correct their mistake. Good luck and enjoy the Beach if you can find it!

BEAUTIFUL, SERENE, GREAT BOARDWALK

By 884KathyG |

Excellent beach and boardwalk areas. Quiet atmosphere, to relax and walk. Beautiful sunsets! Love to go clamming and enjoy reading on the beach, too!

Small and Nice

By Skater |

It's a very nice beach not far from Silver Sands State Park.
They are actually connected by a boardwalk. The water is warm, the beach is shallow, the sound is very pretty. There is a fishing pier in the middle of the beach.

Day trip

By BLBLilo |

We went to Walnut Beach today for the first time, it was clean quiet and very relaxing. We walked inti town everyone was friendly. Overall we had a wonderful day and on going back.

Summer concerts on Sunday Afternoon at Walnut Beach

By poppy843 |

Went to a concert featuring The Navels. A 4 piece band, 3 guys 1 girl playing songs from the past. The girl was the singer and did an excellent job. There was a very big turnout for this event. People went home very happy as they put on a great show. I hope that they return to Walnut Beach in the future!!!

Easy access

By Mark S |

Easy access, lots of parking, relatively quiet. At low tide you can walk the sandbar to Charles Island. However the sandbar is closed between May-September. Be very mindful of the tide as the currents are very strong and every year many walkers are being swept off the sandbar by the strong currents.

Day at the Beach

By Jane B |

It was low-tide. Smelled very fishy. Water was very merky with lots of little fish. Otherwise nice quiet beach. We visited the Lazy Lobster and had the best Lobster Roll ever!!!

Despite Flooding Great Times Ahead!

By birdiecurtis |

More New England sights to show off to visitors across the pond! One of our guests from England wanted to see the sea so off to Walnut Beach for our crew. The parking area was partially flooded as was the entrance to jetty but well worth the wade through the water for a bracing walk to the sea. View was spectacular and I could sense the sunshine that will appear on our next visit! Only drawback was closed rest rooms however after driving through a flooded parking lot you can reach the outhouse which was clean and tidy and most importantly provide toilet paper.

Great day trip!

By Jennifer G |

Wal it beach is goo and getting better. First, it's free to park there. If you don't have a Milford sticker just park along the road outside the fence. There's tons of parking and its a quick walk. The beach is nice and long. The boardwalk an beach connect to Silver Sands so you can set up anywhere along the beach. I've seen people with ez ups and grills throwing big parties on the beach. I don't think any permits are needed. You can walk to Scoot n Paddle, a deli, and an ice cream shop. It's great for a day trip!

Not your typical beach

By marcia m |

Disappointed that there was so little beach. not much to walk on. Most shells were broken making it even harder. Bummer!

Average, crowded beach

By AvidGlobalTraveller9 |

Average beach, fairly crowded in the summer months. Parking and facilities are on-site, though good luck finding parking after 11am. Water is typical of the area - rocky and shallow.

Nice but "Do Not use GOOGLE MAPS" to get here.....

By ridgebac |

An amazingly nice beach with a huge boardwalk and pier but.....
Do Not use GOOGLE MAPS to get there as it will bring you to a house in a residential neighborhood about a 1/2 mile from the beach. This is not a joke, dead serious. On a hot weekend you may even find yourself on this small quiet street with a few others, swearing at your cell phones and trying to figure out where exactly to go and hopefully not getting into an accident in the 4 way "NO Stop Sign" intersection with teens speeding thru trying to beet their friends to the beach while trying to "recalculate". Yeah like I said, its not a joke... thanks #$%@&*# GOOGLE!

What else can I say but the best Milford has to offer

By Kishka2014 |

Sand is awesome. The boardwalk is a much needed great addition, I've spent many summer days on this beach, always look forward to my next visit.

Walnut Beach

By Tony A |

Great beach .Ample parking . Small seasonal merry-go-round for kids($3.00 ?). Walk to convenience stores. Vendors . Good fishing. Large pier. Great boardwalk . Seasonal free concerts. Restrooms. May be small out of town parking fee. Off street free parking available. I live walking distance from the beach for the last 40 years.

Easy access from car to the sand

By Don H |

Parking is very close to the beach which is convenient. It invites groups with lots of beach paraphernalia and children. Fairly crowed on hot summer days. Nice pier that goes from the beach side boardwalk into the Sound a hundred yards or so. People fish from the end of the pier and it has a nice panoramic view of the Sound and the shoreline.

The water depth here compared to Silver Sands has a much steeper slope. It's waist deep a few yard offshore, and over your head not much farther out. Nice place to swim and people are friendly.

Unhappy red shorts man

By Kirsten E |

Upon my arrival, a man in red shorts was rather rude. He scolded me as if I were a child whose hand was caught in a cookie jar. He then proceeded to tell me that people like myself were the reason speed bumps were going in and he hoped I would hit my head. I apologized for speeding as there were no indicated signs then he rolled his eyes at me. He then proceeded to inform me that a parking fee was $40. I am a Connecticut resident however, do not live in Milford. When I communicated I would not be paying that outlandish amount to park he offered “street parking for $5/ hour” in a condescending tone. I am truly turned off by this experience and hope that sad, egotistical man finds happiness as he clearly has some demons. There are other local beaches that are just as nice where you are not judged instantly. Thank you for your time.

Beautiful local beach

By MilfordSue |

Large beach area, very clean, with a pavilion with picnic tables. Also has fishing piers and a boardwalk that goes along the shoreline from Walnut Beach to Silver Sands State park. Ample parking, fee for nonresidents. Great view of Charles Island. Beautiful spot to see sunrises and sunsets. Lots of open area for kite flying.

Fabulous Beach!

By Popcorncora |

Great beach with ample parking (resident and non-resident areas - you'll pay if you're a non-resident but I don't think it's exorbitant), ice cream trucks, occasionally a food truck, a pier, tidy restrooms and best of all - a fantastic boardwalk! There's also a fun Sand Sculpture Contest in July. Highly recommend!

Great day for a visit.

By Indie Mainer |

After we ate our dessert, we strolled down the beach. We were surprised main drag on Broadway was quiet along with its' side streets. No one bothered us and the beach was very neat and clean (at least where we arrived at). I wish I spent some time at the beach when I was working at the mall 15 minutes away. It would have a great way to de-stress.

One of the nicest beaches in Milford

By david F |

This beach has come a long way from 50 years, at that time there were stands that lined the street and a small kidde land amusement area with rides, mini golf. etc. nice job transforming it from back then and it keeps improving every year, the boardwalk & pier really added to it.
now you can walk from Walnut Beach to Silver Sands state park. There is a fee to park if you are not a Milford resident.

A Favorite Beach

By sheriaa71 |

This has to be one of my favorite beaches in Connecticut. The sand is beautiful. The water is clean and sandy on the bottom. A must is to walk the boardwalk to Silver Sands Beach and back. Or you can fish off the pier. Breathtaking views. There's plenty of parking on the street should you not have a Milford Beach sticker - just get there early (before 11AM) to get a spot !
