Great library- lots besides books!

I just go for the books, but also see that they have music, films, games, activities, special spaces for groups. I like that they have bilingual Spanish stuff. I also enjoy the educational programs.

A place of encouragement for Children

By Richard S |

What an excellent place to stimulate all minds but especially as I am concerned my little grandson. You can take up to 50 books out for 3 weeks. However, to sit and read in the Children's library with my grandson is so rewarding. The books are at a sensible height for little ones in the Children's library. The library is light and clean and a fun place. Staff very helpful. After reading a few books, only a handful are needed to be taken out and to be returned within 3 weeks.

Great selection and variety of reading materials, audio-visual materials, author visits, reading programs and educational options. Willingness to order materials when requested. Friendly and knowledgable staff. Huge asset to the community.

Borrowing more book

The staff were very helpful even you didn't reside in the city, just show your city library card and they will register you in their library. They don't have any late fees.

Better than cook memorial library

Spacious library and very friendly staff. Plenty of parking. Nice selections of dvds, etc.
Prefer here compared to Cook memorial library in Libertyville

Very good selection of books, audio and video

I've been a resident of Gurnee for 18 years now, and one of the best things about living here is Warren Newport Public Library. While a library can't have everything that a person could want, they seem to try harder than many libraries to have a great selection. This is especially noted in their CDs and DVD/Blu-Ray collections; it's rare to see some of the items they have stocked in a typical library.

If they do not have something you're looking for, librarians are more than willing to help you locate the item. Their participation in the Interlibrary Loan program has helped me find specific items that, in some cases, I've searched years for.

If I could suggest any specific improvements, I'd like to see a better area for CD box sets other than a moveable cart. And, while this particular part of their collection is a respectable size, I'd like to see them try to expand this a little bit more, if at all possible.

The library also offers many different programs over the course of the year, with something that is guaranteed to please everyone in your family. Also of note is the "Friends Of WNPL" sale which occurs every three months; this is a time you can significantly increase your library, especially DVDs, for amazing prices. Yes, most of these items are library withdrawals, but they are still in workable condition, so the occasional scuff on the disc is to be expected.

I have yet to find a library which is as all-encompassing as Warren Newport Public Library... which, to me, is the best advertisement they can offer.

Wonderful place for kids and adults alike

By dkp213 |

I've always loved libraries and when I moved to Gurnee, I was thrilled at all the Warren-Newport library had to offer. Tons of titles and recommended reading, author visits, special events and things for kids to do. Computers readily available, self-checkout, friendly and knowledgeable staff and they recently remodeled! Convenient drive-up book return. Great place to relax and get some studying or work done. My only complaint is it is too popular! The parking lot is always jam-packed full!

Library Doesn't Care About Your 1st Amendment Rights

By JAY l |

Apparently, the staff does not care about the first Amendment of the United States Constitution. They claim their policy supersedes the first Amendment which is a federally protected constitutional right. If you have a phone out and record anything in a publicly accessible area of the public library, they will call the police on you. Even then after the library wasted the resources of the city by having the police show up, they refused to acknowledge that the public has the right to record video in a public library that is funded by the public.

Great place to study

This is a quiet and most well kept library I have been in ever. The study rooms and all the available resources are awesome!
