Beautiful Location. Easy access. Good/efficient service. Relatively reasonable prices all things considered.

We LOVE taking the ferry to the island. So relaxing and live the fresh air. I HATE taking the ferry back across because vacation is over.

The staff seemed to be attentive to the passengers. Took our bicycles on and the crew cared well for them. You can sit outside to enjoy the sun. The ferry ride was better than the island though!

The Washington Island Ferry provided a great trip to Washington Island. The staff was pleasant, efficient, and right on time.

Every trip to Door County requires a trip to Washington Island. This is the main ferry. Nice ride. Always on time. Reasonable rates. I even ran into a classmate I hadn't seen for 45 years on the ferry.

All of the staff we dealt with were very friendly, and professional. They were very efficient on how the got vehicles on and off the ferry. they have four ferrys and had all four runnung on the Saturday we went to and back from Washington Island.

Nice ferry service from mainland to see Washington Island. Everyone was professional and considerate. It was a little pricey as you pay for the car plus another amount for each person in the car.

The ferry serves it's purpose and was very easy to navigate from beginning to end. Helpful crew. Restroom on ferry. 20-30 minute trip.

My family of 4 plus my mom and sister took the Ferry over and then rode the Cherry Train. The ride over and back was very smooth. Getting tickets was easy. Our tour guide on the Cherry Train was very friendly and really knew her stuff. We got to see the nature center, school house beach, the farm (with a stop for beer and a pretzel), and the church. This is probably the best way to tour the island while you are there.

We planned our trip to Washington Island and the ferry is how you get there. We got a later start that morning and when we arrived we were like the 50th car in line. Everyone got out and mingled. I could see the ferries coming and going and suggested to the wife that we walk up and get a better understanding of what was going on, also suggested we get our tickets if that was possible. It is and its advisable, that way when its your turn to get on the ferry you just follow their direction and pull right on. They pack the cars on there really tight, but once your on you can move about freely. Went up on the upper deck, great view on the 1/2 hour trip. My wife took a lot of pictures as usual. Loading and unloading was quick and easy.

Enjoyed the ride and commentary. Smooth trip over and beautiful views. Next time we will bring bikes!

They offer several ferries that operate to and from Northport to Washington Island on the hour.
Reasonably priced and a relaxing 20 minute excursion. Take your car ($27) or motorcycle ($15) with you to use on the island. Fairly easy, you drive your own vehicle, loading and unloading.
Indoor seating is available during inclement weather but I recommend enjoying the outdoor seating and taking in the fresh air and views.
Staff was friendly and the ferry well maintained and steady.

I was very impressed with this ferry service. They were on time, very clean ferry and friendly staff. Go up to the second level and watch the waves hit the front of the ferry. Very cool.

A dependable and timely ferry service. Prices are high. No discounts for regular use. Clean and inside seating available.

The trip to Washington Island takes about 30 minutes. Once you have your car on the ferry, you can make your way to the upper decks where you will get a wonderful view of Death's Door and surrounding islands. The crew on these ferries is amazing. They direct cars on and off the boats with great precision, and despite how busy they are, they remain very pleasant and friendly. There is a schedule for the ferries, but the company will start running more boats if it gets busy, so you might not have to wait as long as you think to get on board. That being said, the earlier you leave for Washington Island, the better. We noticed when we returned from the island, the line of cars waiting to board was extremely long.

This half-hour trip to Washington Island is so scenic and beautiful! Ferries are always fun, but the Captains and Crews on this Line make the trip. They are so friendly and accommodating. The best way to experience the beauty of Door County.

I have rode the Washington Island Ferry for my entire life. In winter, spring, summer or fall it's always a great adventure. The many crews I have ridden with have always bee awesome and are true professionals! To watch these folks day in and day out get thousands of visitors and Islanders safely to and from from this Island Paradise each day is always amazing. Get your self up there to enjoy the Island and its beauty!!
Enjoy the ride!!!

Riding the ferry was probably the best part of the Washington island experience . Just a hint, if you are on a motorcycle go to the front of the line. They will try to fit you in.

Washington island sunset and nice ferry ride. Must see sunset and rock island.
Summer is perfect season for bike ride

Great island for plenty of bicycle riding, safe, little traffic. Plenty of places to stop and eat or enjoy the water. The Ferry out of Gills Rock didn’t charge extra to bring bicycles on the ferry over. There are two ferry service providers.

Very nice ferry boat ride to the island. There are 4 boats shuttling people and cars all day. They run on tight schedules. You may get out of your car if you are able to open your doors. They pack them in really tight. Each ferry fits close to 20 vehicles. Walk inside and bikes are welcome too. Cost for each passenger is $13.50. Each car is $26. Round trip.
Have indoor seating on cold days. Outdoor seating is the best. Great views. Our ride was a little rough but not bad. No one got seasick. Just don’t miss the boat back to the island you came from. You are stuck if u do.

They run between Washington Island and the peninsula on a very regular basis in July. Once aboard, you can stay in your vehicle or go topside to either open-air or enclosed passenger areas (on the way out to the island we stood outside and enjoyed the views and breezes, on the way back it was raining and we just stayed in our vehicle).
It's a quick trip at a reasonable price with the vessel being large enough that you don't feel uncomfortable due to waves/wind, etc.

We just recently went over to Washington Island on the ferry. Smooth ride, and enjoyed it. Take your car or walk on.

The ferry is a great activity while in Door County. The kids loved going up to the top deck to look out over the water. It was a little chilly on the water so maybe bring a sweater. We went late in the day and the ferry line to get off the island was really long. We waited for an hour to get on the ferry, which was a challenge with two young toddlers. They said the wait was not typical, but something to keep in mind if you’re going late in the day. It’s also pretty pricey, but it was really fun.

Even though it was a bit pricey to get 6 adults1 child and a vehicle across. The full day exploring the island was wonderful. During the busy times they had 3 boats moving passengers and cars. Kids had a great time on the Washington as it was a 4 lane triple deck. I advise getting a road map of the island and exploring yourself. You can spend as much time as you'd like at each destination and do what you'd like to do and not be on a schedule.

Ferry is on time, reliable and safe. Boats have a seating area so you can get out of your car on the trip across the bay. $80 round trip for four people and a car seems like plenty though. That said, if you want to see Washington Island this how to get there.

These guys have appear to have been doing this quite awhile. We were loaded, departed, and unloaded quickly! Get there early to avoid waiting in line too long. Once in line, walk up to purchase tickets. A little over $50 got two adults and our car across to the island. It was definitely worth the trip over! The trip back to the main land was just as efficient as the initial trip over. Appreciated the trip.

A trip to door county Wisconsin wouldn't be complete without a trip to the island on the ferry! Its a great deal smaller than the ferry in Seattle, so I was a little nervous! Made it over great and then the weather changed so the return was very bumpy - but a must do!

Last week we took the Washington Island Ferry from Gills Rock, at the tip of Door County, WI, to Washington Island. The car ferry is very easy to drive on to, has indoor seating for bad weather, or upper deck seating for nice days and runs every half hour during the summer months. The 30 minute ride was very pleasant on the way over to the Island. The workers all very polite and knowledgeable. Really enjoyed it and our visit to the island.

Four family members drove from Green Bay to Gills Rock specifically to take the car ferry across the strait to Washington Island because none of us had ever visited the island. It was a bucket list item.
We arrived in Gills Rock at about 2:15. After stopping at the ticket booth, we were able to board the ferry immediately. Passage is $13.50 round trip per adult and $7 per child (6-11). Ages 5 and under are free. There is no senior discount. Cars are $26 round trip. Motorcycles are $15, and bicycles are $4.
There's one campground on the island. If you want to bring your RV, you'll pay $30 for a 17-foot camper. RV fares vary based on length.
The ride across is 20-30 minutes depending on current. We crossed on a gorgeous, warm sunny afternoon and didn't require jackets en route to the island. By the time we returned, the sun was lower in the sky and we were facing into the wind. We all fetched our jackets from the car.
You can remain in your car during the crossing if preferred, but the upper deck has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, as well as excellent views. You climb a dozen steps to get to the upper deck. There's no wheelchair or stroller accessibility. Men's and women's restrooms are available in the cabin.
The ride to the island was uneventful - not so with the return. We arrived back at the pier at 5:20 pm planning to board the 5:30 ferry. Unfortunately the line of cars awaiting boarding was approximately 100 deep. One ferry holds 20-24 vehicles depending on size, so we waited and waited and WAITED to board. Our turn finally arrived at 6:40 pm - an hour and twenty minutes after getting in line.
The last ferry is supposed to depart the island at 6:00 pm. The reality was about 6:50 pm. Good thing we didn't have dinner reservations on the mainland.

We took the ferry to the island with our car. The crew handled everything perfectly and we were had a great ride along with getting to view the lighthouse on the way.

This was actually a fun and easy way to get from the mainland to Washington Island. It's a lovely ride.

Rode up from Milwaukee while it was going to rain down there all day. Decided to take the ferry ⛴ to the island. This was a first for me with the bike. Nice smooth ride over.

Kudo's to the crew who manage to load as many vehicles as possible in the shortest amount of time while being polite, friendly and professional. We had a Coca-Cola delivery truck, 45' flatbed low-deck trailer, a couple of big pick-up trucks and some smaller vehicles. They managed to use every space and gave excellent instructions to the drivers. Nobody was left behind!

This trip was great. We waited only a few minutes to board to the Island and maybe 10 minutes to board for the way back. Always fast and efficient.

The ride on the ferry was wonderful and the ride was smooth with a beautiful view. The island itself was very disappointing. Im glad we brought a car, we were able to find a mercantile to find some gifts, but that's about it.

Took this ferry round trip from Northport to Washington Island. It was $27 for our car and $14 for adults. I would highly recommend taking a car to Washington Island as that is the best way to see the island. I believe the ferries ran more frequently than stated in the brochure, probably due to demand. We got out of our car on the way to the island but stayed in our car on the way back as there is not much to see, en route, just a few lighthouses in the distance.

The ferry service has this down to a science! We drove on the ferry, took the Cherry Train Ride for a round trip combo price and was very reasonable! The Cherry Train Ride was Two hour tour and was absolutely fantastic! Hans was our "train" ride ( actually a team pulled by a four wheel drive truck) operator was very knowledgable and great! We saw so many of the sites we definitely would have missed or not seen had we not taken the tour. I highly recommend you start your Washington Island journey by take this train ride tour!

Taking a ride on the ferry to and from Washington Island was a definite treat! The captain was clearly highly skilled and experienced - and very nice to boot!

The Island is great! Once you get there, you can rent bikes or see the Island on the Cherry Train. There is a lot to see. On our next visit we may take the car ferry so we can explore more of the Island.

It was very easy to find, get tickets, and board with our vehicle. Be sure to exit your vehicle before the ferry fills up, or it's hard to get out of your car in the small space! Deck and cabin offer beautiful views of Death's Door and the smaller islands.

Very friendly ticket lady, much free information about the Islands. Boat was on time, cordial seamen.
BUT mesquites were terrible as we waited for the boat.

We took our two kids and car over to the island for a day, total was $88. $15 for each person over 11 years old and $28 for the car. The ferry leaves every hour on the hour. The line gets long so just be prepared to wait in line while they board the ferry. You are not able to buy tickets online, you buy them at the box office on site. If you are not taking for car, park your car and walk to the box office. If you are taking your car over, get in the line, it will be long but it goes rather quickly. The ferry ride takes about 30 minutes. The last ferry back to the mainland is at 5pm, you need to be in line at 5pm. The last ferry to the island is 6pm. Times do change based on season so review their schedule online to grab a brochure in the office outside the box office. This ferry does exactly what it is intended to do, get you and your vehicle back and forth safely.

I always enjoy taking the ferry to Washington Island. It is the only way most people get there. It is so much fun to visit Washington Island. And then there is Rock Island beyond Washington Island. No cars are allowed on Rock Island, though.

My husband and I were enjoying Door County and the Washington Island Ferry Line along with the Cherry Train Tours. This is a MUST Do and experience when visiting the area. Lots to see and enjoy. Very educational and interesting. Dick was our local guide and he was beyond excellent. He was very knowledgeable about the area and then some and provided us with an excellent opportunity to learn history regarding Door County. He is a very patient young man. Ferry takes about 45 mins. Then you board the Cherry Train with Dick for a sightseeing adventure of your life. According to available pamphlets, "Washington Island has been a travel destination since 1635 when Jean Nicolet came here followed by traders and missionaries like Father Marquette. In June of 1850, the town was established at Henry Miner' home on Rock Island, The new town included Washington, Rock, and Detroit Islands. The Town Board's first act was to establish a log school in south Washington Harbor (now Schoolhouse Beach). In 1865, the community built its first church, Bethel Seaman's Chapel which still stand today (now Bethel Ev. Free Church). There's lots to love about our tiny island town of Washington Island in Door County, Wisconsin. Our community of 710 doesn't have a single stoplight nor a concrete shopping mall and yet we know when to stop, where to shop, and how to enjoy daily life. Nestled in the crisp blue water of Lake Michigan lies our 35 square mile island home. Visit museums, take in an art show, play or musical performance." Lots of local shops and eateries. A must-go-and-enjoy type of attraction, which is rich in history and enjoyable for people of all ages. Seniors welcomed! Thank you!

15 of us biked to Washington Island this last weekend and the ferry service was excellent. The staff is courteous and knows how to run a ferry. Busy season and they run as many ferries as needed to keep us all moving along. For the first time, we all took the Cherry Train. I have been to Washington Island in the past and never taken it. Just wasn't "our thing". HOWEVER, what a mistake to have missed it. We learned so much more about the island and saw things we never saw on our own, and places we will return to on the island next year. And our train driver was GREAT -- she was so informed, so funny and so welcoming. We all loved the whole thing!

The Ferry is very attentive to its customers and offers a quick get away to Washington Island. We had just missed the ferry on the hour and were preparing to wait another hour before the next one came, when almost immediately another ferry arrived to drop passengers off. Even though the ride was smooth I was still prone to sea sickness, but overall it was a wonderful and efficient trip.

Took the ferry on a Saturday. The schedules run exactly on time. Is a good idea to get in line early to guarantee a spot. One half hour ride.

We opted to take the car and this was a wise choice as it gave us more freedom. The staff of the ferry were nice and very helpful with instructions to park in small spaces. Beautiful area and a pleasant ride.

The ride to Washington Island lasted about 30 minutes. There was a good viewing area with both outside and enclosed seating for foul weather. The two way price seemed reasonable. We took our bikes instead of a car. They charged an additional $4 per bike. The crew was good. The boat seemed safe. We’d use the ferry again!

We arrived around 10:30- just missing the ferry since there is a limit of cars (20). We didn't wait long and they really have a great system in place. You can purchase round trip tickets when you arrive ($14 / 2 adults and $28/ 1 car. The Island's must sees are spread out -so driving was a good option. Watch the You Tube videos for recommended stops. We were on the Island for approx. 2 hours. Be aware of last ferry leaving around 6pm.

Loved how they loaded and unloaded our bikes! Friendly captain. Nice ride over and back from the island, pointing out landmarks on the way.

The company is very polite. We could stand outside the car to take photos and enjoy the fresh air. Be there on time. They adhere to their schedule. Washington Island is very natural and scenic. I especially like Schoolhouse Beach.

I use the ferry every time I babysit my grandson and am very happy with the service. The staff are competent and get you on and off the ferry quickly. Shout out to the friendly booth staff on the Kingston/Edmonds crossing.
Skip the cafe unless you like tater tots and chili. Greasy spoon.

Relatively efficient and, thanks to the lack of waves, smooth ride between the tip of Door County and Washington Island. We arrived to a line along Wisconsin 42 on a busy July Tuesday. They were running 4 boats to keep up with the traffic. Loading and unloading once done with the line was quick and efficient. Upon our return we actually drove right on and left within 10 minutes.

The Washington ferry line seems to run very smooth and efficient. We decided at the last minute to visit Washington island. We drove our car instead of doing the cherry train tour. We caught the 215 ferry. Pulled up, paid for our tickets and drove right on. The ferry ride was very smooth and was a nice ride from the top deck. There are restrooms on board. The ride took less than 30 minutes. We caught the 6 pm ferry back. 3 hours was enough to tour the island, although there would have been plenty to keep me busy if we would have had more time.

Great service and quick. The people were very efficient and courteous. The top deck was a great place to view the area. For sure worth the cost.

Great service, decently priced, but what made this 5 "stars" is the views. We did the night ferry, so we got to see the stars, and the milky way, seriously amazing, and then we took the ferry back in the morning, and watched the sun rise. If you can do either of those, do it!

We were took the ferry to Washington Island on Memorial Day weekend, and the only time either of us has done this, so not sure how busy it really is. The recommendation is to arrive about 15 before the ferry, and that was probably right for the last few cars, but we arrived 20 to 25 minutes and were about the 6th or 8th car. But on the ferry, parking is tight and it might be easier to stay in your car (the ride is less than 30 minutes).
One thing I noticed is that if you are renting a moped, the place is about a 2 minute walk from the ferry dock. Also, when returning back to the mainland, there is a pizza place right there, and we saw several people run in a get slices and sit out on the picnic table waiting.

A nice ride across to Washington Island to visit the sites there. There are ample ferries going back and forth at different times. The only downside is that you are pretty crowded in there, especially if you are on motorcycle.

Very accessible with multiple scheduled trips each day (at least when we were there in the summer!) it was our first trip to the Island - and if you don’t have bikes you definitely need your car to get around the island. The team is very efficient packing in as many vehicles as possible and it’s a quick trip over. We stayed in our car due to covid but others went up top to enjoy the view. If you’re going to the Island this is the way to go!

Nothing exciting about the ride, it's the way to get to Washington Island. Still enjoyable and a fun ride. Especially enjoyed the people getting us to park properly on the ship, they were a lot of fun. You can sit in your vehicle is you wish but it recommend getting out and wandering around the boat, there are several places to enjoy the view and the trip.

The ferry is a fun part of visiting Washington Island. Half hour ride with beautiful scenery to enjoy. Smooth on and off with your vehicle.

We had to board the Ferry to get to and from Washington Island on our Segway Tour. The staff was courteous and professional. We had no trouble getting our Segways on board. The trip is a short hop from the Peniinsula to the island.

We weren't sure if our dually pick up truck would be welcome on the ferry. But, no problem. Smooth ride, beautiful scenery.

It is really quite amazing how they pack all of the vehicles into the ferry, and it was fun to watch from above. We did not bring a vehicle, but it looked like an easy process. The ride was nice, and it only took about 30 minutes to get across. We rented bikes to get around the island, but it was a bit much for one day. If you want to see all of the sites, it would be a good idea to bring your car.

Smooth process loading and unloading. There was a line but we went mid morning which is peak time to get to the island. Still only waited about a half hour since they had several ferries operating. We took our van with bikes on the back and kayaks on top.

Took the ferry over for our day trip to Washington Island. It was November and the middle of a Wednesday so we happened to be the only car on the ferry! Workers were very nice and we enjoyed our ride!

We have done the ferry numerous times. This last time it was just my husband and myself. It was very foggy and the midges were terrible on the ride back and forth. On the way back to the mainland, we just stayed in our truck. I don't know how many more times we will do this. There isn't much to do on the island and I am not sure it is worth it anymore for us. For anyone new to the area, I would highly recommend a trip to the island. They are always friendly. Maybe it was the fog, but this was the first time they didn't depart on time.

This is the only way to get a vehicle from the peninsula to Washington Island, and yet the crew never acted like we had no choice, instead making us very welcome and being generous with telling us about the ferry and its history, as well as the islands we were seeing along the way. Great crew (the Robert Noble), memorable rides both ways.

Easy on and easy off. Combined tickets with the Cherry Tree Train tour. Clean, pleasant staff on the ferry line. Would go back in a heartbeat!

We went on a Monday. Not crowded. Short 30 minute ride to island. Taking car to island is a little pricey plus each person charged individually on top of vehicle fee. Great views while on ferry.

The staff was helpful. The ride was smooth. We had a much smoother sail in the morning, and took off from the dock right on tiMe.

Quick and efficient ferry service to Washington Island. Crews load and unload vehicles quickly. Seating indoor and out for passengers. Ferrys are clean and the ride is smooth.

This was our first stop during our Door County vacation and the highlight of the trip! Ferry service was such a unique experience and worth every penny. Impressed with how efficient the service operated they were on time and thorough.
For 4 adults and 2 kids cost was $99 round trip
They have several ferry boats running so we didn’t have to wait long at all to load
Coming back from Washington Island we waited about 10 mins to load
They can get about 15-20 cars on depending on size our ferry had RV going over and Horse Trailer coming back that took several car spots but still little wait time
Washington Island was wonderful as well spent about 6 hours there with several hours at Schoolhouse Beach
We went straight to Schoolhouse Beach when we arrived around 11:30. We were able to get a great picnic table in shade and kids loved the beach
Water was chilly but several were still swimming
It was such a beautiful beach

Efficient crew, quick load and unload. Nice view of some lighthouses. Took our car, car 4 people round trip, $80. Don’t count on getting on to return if you get there 20 min before departure.

The ferry ride was run very efficiently. We were able to get our of our vehicle and enjoy the amazing scenery during the ride. The crew was very professional.

While a bit expensive, supply & demand, this was a quick & easy trip across to Washington island. I was a bit nervous how the ride would be, sitting in the car & all, but it was very calm & you could hardly tell you were moving. Also, the men boarding the cars on the ferry were great "Tetris" players loading the cars in the perfect spots & doing a great job of direction for the drivers squeezing in to said spots. Don't mind the line, it goes quickly!

Great Kind staff members! The staff was super helpful and patient when it came to getting the vehicles on board to they could bring across as many as possible. Wait time wasn’t terrible, it’s best to be in line about 30 mins before departure to ensure your able to board at ur desired time. The look out deck was very enjoyable to sit while
Making the journey across.

Usually, the trip to WI from Northport is a snooze - not this time. It was blowing 30 from the NW, water regularly splashed over the 8 foot high loading ramp, and rocking and rolling that required sitting when using the head(that was an adventure). What a hoot!! Not so much for the pregnant lady in the car next to us. Most fun I've had in a long time and not a worry in the world - their skippers are good.

Washington Island Ferry is an enjoyable trip to Washington Island. The ferry loads up your car for the trip across Death's Door. Beautiful scenery from the top deck.

Was told over the phone it was $15 per person plus the vehicle. At the ferry I was charged $23 per person plus $24 for the vehicle. Plus none of the employees could tell me when the last ferry left the island. Nothing on the island was worth the trip.

This was a fun adventure over to Washington Island. Plenty of seating. Short times in between ferry trips. Beware waters can be rough if you are sensitive to that. Multiple levels to accommodate everyone so if stairs don't work or you, you will have alternative options. Bathrooms on board,

What an adventure - the crew is very efficient and knowledgeable getting everyone and all the vehicles loaded and unloaded quickly. The ride is beautiful but windy.

Cost is per vehicle (cars, bikes, motorcycles,) and per person. Seemed fair. Takes about 40 minutes and you get great views of the island.

We love our trip on the boat after a long car ride from Indiana. It is about a 25 minute ride over. Love seeing the pelicans now.

We enjoyed the ferry ride over to Washington Island. One the way home we had to wait about 35 minutes for the next ferry as the first one was full. Keep that in mind if you are leaving toward end of the day.
The ride was fairly smooth and they give you option to stay in your vehicle or get off and go upstairs on the deck inside or out.

They run this ferry like magic!! The ferry ride itself is a must-do treat during our visits to Door County. Beautiful scenery, friendly and efficient service.

We got to the ferry landing at 8:45am thinking we'd beat the rush, nope there were already 25-30 cars in line. While parked we saw people walking up, I thought to use the bathroom, but turns out they were buying tickets ahead of time. If you have tickets and the car in front of you doesn't you may make it on the ferry while they may not, we almost did not make it on, lesson learned.

Ferry is efficient, loads a large amounts of cars, even semi-trucks, has a seated viewing deck and practices good safety procedures.

Wonderful relaxing ferry ride to Washington Island, Wisconsin. Price was reasonable and they were right on schedule.

You spend most of the time pertaining to the ferry waiting in line. I would suggest snacks. On the way back we picked up dinner and eat it waiting in line. We got to the ferry after lunch, as we went there the first day. I would definitly planned to be on the island all day, if we ever do it again.

We recently moved to Door County and wanted to just enjoy a boat ride on a most beautiful summer day - The Washington Island Ferry fit the bill. At $13.50 round trip per person from Northport to Washington Island and back this is a true bargain, not to mention that their schedule is extremely user friendly - every 30 minutes in both directions - how good is that! So we just hung out at one of the quaint little bars at the dock area for a beer, walked around a bit and returned.
Of course you can bring your car at an additional cost of $25.00 and explore the entire Island, something we will definitely do the next time.
They have several boats making the crossing - the two we travelled on were both comfortable and filled to capacity with cars but had plenty of room for more passengers.
We certainly spent a most enjoyable afternoon without breaking the bank.

Very fairly priced for a couple and our car. Vert friendly personnel. Clean restroom. Womderful view

This is a great ferry service. Our tour group used it to get to Washington island. They loaded our entire bus filled with people on the ferry. I think we heard the bus took the place of four cars on the ferry. Nice, scenic cruise across the water.

The ferry is easy on easy off, on time, frequent crossings for autos or walk-on passengers & scenic views during the crossings.

Dependable and safe!!! Love the history. The crew is constantly considerate and joyful!! Even during rough water the trip was incredible.

We had a lot of fun taking the ferry over to Washington Island. We had 3 adults and 4 kids and we brought our car along; it was easy to navigate getting on and off. Ferry line provides plenty of information on fares and departure/pick up times on their website so that was extremely helpful. Definitely will go again!

When in Door County, inevitably we want to visit Washington Island, and the ferry ride, even if inevitable, is always part of the fun. I guess we like ferries in general - being on the water is part of human nature's draw to the seas and lakes. The only downside to this ferry I would mention is pretty early return times from Washington Island - I believe the last one is at or around 6PM or so. We are always uneasy about it - what if we don't make it back in time, or we make it but don't fit because there are quite a few other cars on the island, and most visitors will try to cram into the last couple of ferries, but only so many can fit. Would be nice if there were more ferries later in the day - that way people who arrive staggery can leave the same way, not rushing.

We crossed with our car and it was a great experience. Because it was fall, it was a little cold, but we got out of our car anyway and sat up top because we wanted to experience crossing Death's Door to its fullest. The crew on the ferry was very well organized and courteous. They were able to load the line of vehicles in a matter of minutes in an orderly fashion and we were off in no time. It takes about a half hour from start to finish to load, cross and unload. The ferries run quite regular, so if you have just missed one, wait a few minutes and the next one will be there before you know it.

Quick and cheap car/ferry experience. What a great time! The staff were super friendly. I mean how else are you going to get to the island.... SWIM...... definitely an experience for the books!

Initially, we (two 70s couples) were in a long, long line to wait for the ferry. I got out of the car and asked other people what the deal was, and no one knew - all first time visitors. Others had gotten out to see what the holdup was. We turned around and left and took a different ferry, as we were not taking our car. That ferry took about 30 minutes, and our ticket was combined with the cherry train tour. We only wanted to stay a few hours and see Washington island, and this was the perfect amount of time with the right amount of sightseeing. The lady in the pickup truck who pulled the "train" is a local who gave and excellent and informative tour. Stops were brief, and then we returned to Gills Rock. Perfect, faster, and more efficient if not taking your car.

Not sure there is another way to get to Washington Island (if you don't have your own boat) but the ferry is a great way to go. The staff is friendly and knows the routine very well.

Good luck. There’s no way to know when it’s busy and the wait is long. The workers are efficient but no postings about price and prices are high. There’s also a very large and outrageously rude worker who is apparently also the island’s Town Chairman. He seems to hate tourists. Wash Island is a must-do, but once is probably enough. This was my third and last trip.

When we got off the clipper we intended to ride bikes around the island as I had done 20 years ago. My mom had a mishap with the bike so we took the trolley instead. The trolley allows you to see so much more than on bikes. We saw lavender fields which was breathtaking, schoolhouse beach and many other neat places. The trolley is 12 per person, cash only.

Went to Washington Island and back and had a great ride both ways. They do a great job loading and unloading. Nice job and well done by these guys.

Went here with some family who live in area. recommend going in the summer we went in middle of October little chilly, island seemed like a ghost town. Although it was enjoyable and we had an informative tour guide. Must do tour. Would be fun to bring bicycles next time.

We rode the ferry with our family and our car once to get to Washington Island and once to return. The beginning ride was smooth and peaceful. There are restrooms on the the ships and there are multiple places to enjoy the ride, from enclosed cabins to various levels of outdoor decks. The second trip (returning from the island) was much more choppy and I worried about water splashing over the sides and getting on the vehicles below. We made it safe and sound, but not without those worries.

The crew was efficient and got us on and off quickly. Be there early in the morning to avoid long wait times.

If you/'re visiting beautiful Washington island, or just want to take a lovely tirp on the water - go.

We went to Washington Island with our car. They were prompt, organized, and friendly. We could not believe how well they moved us across well and were able to accommodate large numbers of cars.

So easy. Just get in line, pay, pull in, get out, go to the deck and enjoy the views! The personnel is friendly and helpful. No fuss transport in and out Washington Island!

Great experience, the crew are friendly, helpful and very efficient.
The trip to the island and back was right on schedule.

Unless you fly, Washington Island Ferry Line is the only way to get to Washington Island. My family traveled there over Memorial Day Weekend and enjoyed our stay on the island, but boarding the ferry was confusing as there was little signage and many of the staff members seem to resent tourists. I was bullied and insulted by two different staff members. Two men in their fifties really treated me poorly and it greatly effected the beginning of my trip.
Anyways, the ride itself is about 30 minutes and the length was a good first ferry ride for my toddlers. Lake flies were a real issue until we took off (you couldn't open your mouth).

It was a little confusing, since I hadn't taken the ferry before, but the staff in the booth was helpful in figuring it out. Driving onto the ferry itself was a little nerve-wracking, but the crew was professional and helpful and the trip across was calm. Good view from the top of the ferry.

Fun trip out to Washington Island. We took our car with, parked and rode up top. Beautiful views from up there but a little windy

We took our car to Washington island and enjoyed the boat ride. Great views and reasonably priced. We had a great time.

Well run operation. Multiple ferrys makes for a short wait to board.Easy directions to follow. Safe. Enjoyable trip to Washington Island.

They know what they are doing and can load the ferry quickly !!!! Be a little early to be sure you a ke the ferry.

The process of getting on and off is very smooth. Wait in your car or enjoy the ride up top. Enjoyable ride. Just pay attention to the schedule to get off Island

Ferry is punctual and recommend arriving15 minutes early. Nice 30 Minute ride across Lake Michigan. Bring a jacket. $13.50 per adult.

The helpers who help direct you on board are amazing because they can fit cars in frontways and sideways to take advantage of all the small spaces. Trust them when they are directing you as they have a lot of experience. We were on a motorcycle and motorcycles can always go to the front of the line since they put you in on the end. Some people may say it is expensive to take a vehicle, but if you want to go over and explore, we found that having our personal vehicle was easier than renting a bicycle.

Safe, comfortable vessel. Clean head. Friendly and professional crew. Cool way to ride a boat, get to another spot in the county and visit an "island" if the weather is pleasant. Get in line (if bringing a vehicle) 15 min prior to departure. Follow signs on mainland for "Passenger AND car ferry" rather than just "passenger ferry" which seems like could be confusing and cause people to miss the boat.

Went to Door county in September and took the ferry ride mid-week with my car. Did a little research before the ferry ride to see what eating places there were; which is not many. I missed out on one of the 'train/trolley' rides but was able to find another one to go on. The ferry ride was pleasant and you are able to get out of your car and go upstairs where there are plenty of seats to see the views. Once on the island, I found Karly's restaurant which was excellent, all freshly made food. Drove around a little then went on the island tour by shuttle/.trolley ride. The driver was very nice and gave us a lot of interesting facts and history about the island. We stopped at the lavender fields, which was out of season, but they have an awesome gift shop. Then stopped at an old farm that has been restored to see what the living conditions were like back in the old days. Once back at my car, drove to the ferry to catch an early trip back. I never had to wait to get on the ferry. I can't imagine what it would be like in the high tourist season waiting in line. There is also just a 'people' ferry you can take over but would have to rent bikes or something to get around the island.

Excellent boat ride. Beach and shelter very accessible. Hope to go back in the fall. Shops are fun to go through. Candy and ice cream shoppe especially friendly.

What a great boat ride. 2 adults, 1 child and a mini van. The crew are very friendly and helpful. The captains are also very kind and courteous. We even got to drive the boat. Well at least my daughter did and had a great time. She still talks about it. The ships are clean and very easy to walk around. I can’t say enough on our we enjoyed the round trip to Washington Island.

The best part of taking the ferry from Northport Pier is the incredible windy road you drive. The ferry is not large, there is a lounge and restrooms. This is not a long trip. Staff are kind and know their job well. Water was a bit rough.
On our return we stayed in the car. It was raining. I was quite glad to be safe.
This is a very reasonable means for reaching Washington Island. Lots to explore.

These guys are total professionals and got everyone loaded and unloaded as efficiently as possible. Some reviews complain of having to wait in line, which we did on the way back, but it was no big deal. We took our car with us to Washington Island and were very glad we did, because we had the freedom to go wherever we wanted at our own pace. The tour groups on the tram/“trains” may have gotten more background info at each stop, but we got to see the attractions without the crowds.

We went to Washington Island with our car. They were prompt, organized, and friendly. Nice trip. The journey takes about 30 minutes. If there are big waves it is an additional fun. All the cars on the lower deck are wet. :)

My husband and I had a great trip both ways on the ferry. It was $13.50 per adult but that was round trip, so very reasonable. Children 5 & under and pets are free, children 6-11 are $7, motorcycles are $15, and bikes are $4. We knew we were going to rent scooters on the island so we left our truck (no parking fee in the lot) behind. It’s $26 to bring your vehicle across, and many did. It was the end of July, and sunny, but a jacket or sweatshirt was needed because the trip was very chilly and windy out on the water. All staff was friendly. We highly recommend taking this ferry!

Great fifteen/twenty minute ferry ride. The wait was not bad either. The line felt like it moved quickly.

comfortable, reasonable and fun way to travel to washington island. plenty of scheduled trips, so no need to worry about getting back.

We managed to hit the ferry just when it was scheduled to leave on the way and I'm on the way out really enjoyed the ride

This was our first time to ferry with our vehicle. After a short wait in line, it was very smooth. We left the vehicle for a few minutes to check out the view from the top deck. Scenic and a neat experience

Lots of times to go, runs every half hour. Easy ride, go up top or stay in your car. About 15 minutes. The kids will love it.

A bit expensive but it was a great ride and I enjoyed it probably more than Washington Island itself

Even though the weather was windy and misty, my husband and I rode the ferry to Washington Island. Scenery was still impressive and we also enjoyed the Cherry Train tour of the Island. It was a great overview of the Island and it’s history. The ferry and tour were worth our time, and the sun did come out before we went back on the ferry.

Treats motorcycle riders well. Be sure to leave bike in gear. If there is a long line of cars, respectfully move forward to the front as 2 motorcycles fit on a car stuffed ferry

Took the ferry to/from the island with our car. The workers were pleasant and got everyone loaded efficiently - even on the trip back, where they were loading and going as fast as possible because of the line of visitors headed back to the mainland in the late afternoon.
The trips were quick, and fortunately the weather was wonderful for both days of passage. If you have a dog, they have to stay on the car deck or in the car.
The ferry takes all sorts of vehicles, including cars, bikes, and trailers - whether they are travel trailers, boats, or horse trailers. We stayed at the island campground, and I was surprised to see several horse trailers there as well!
Great job by the ferry team!

There's 3 boats running back and forth, it's fun to ride a different one each time (different amenities). Be sure to check the time table based on point of departure or you'll be 30 minutes off. And look around at the islands and shoals as you cross, you're traveling over Deaths Door. If you want a awesome souvenir, at the Ferry Office on the island they sell Crew t shirts (same you see the crews wearing).

Although I didn't really enjoy touring around Washington Island (kind of a wasted day considering that we didn't see or anything to compare with either the sights or attractions on the mainland of Door County, despite spending money to take the 'cherry train' tour), the ferry itself is a well-run operation, kept to schedule, efficient loading/unloading of people and cars.

Being from Kansas, we always enjoy a boat ride! It's on-time and that means coming and going to don't miss the last one back. We took our vehicle and glad we did - we drove all over the island and on out to the ferry to Rock Island. Be sure to stop at the far shore and make a rock statue. You'll see....

I took this Ferry with my friends to Washington Island from Northport during Fall. The ride was windy but definitely fun. The island itself is also gorgeous.

Simple to use, well organized, reasonable price, feels like an adventure. Not to expensive or difficult to take your car, if you want to drive around and explore.

We thoroughly enjoyed our ferry ride to Washington Island. We were at first hesitant because of the cost but figured we probably wouldn't be back for some time so we thought we'd give it a try. We were not disappointed. It was a Wednesday late morning and we were able to get right on in Northport and only had to wait about 5 minutes later on in the day on Washington Island to get on the ferry back to the mainland. The kids loved it and I would recommend it for anyone visiting Door County.

Under $20 round trip for walk-on passengers although there is relatively little to see within walking distance of the dock. The town is about 3 miles from the dock.
The weather on my trip was interesting. It was raining hard when I arrived at Northport. By the time we reached the island the sun was breaking through the clouds. There was quite a strong wind on the trip back which made it impossible to sit on the deck without getting soaked by spray from the waves. Exciting!
Note: Rock Island is closed

Very pleasant and efficiently run ferry service too Washington Island. The lines are orderly and the staff knows how to get the most cars per square inch!!

This was our first time on a ferry so we weren't sure what to expect. The process was very organized and staff were professional. We couldn't hear the announcements so we weren't sure if we could get out of our vehicle or not but seen a lot of others heading to the upper deck so we did on the way back. Neat experience for the while family. And Washington Island is very cool with some beautiful beaches.

Took our car on ferry ride to Washington Island. Would recommend taking a car to island. Lots to see and do. Can be a big work out to ride a bike everywhere. Nice ferry ride. Boat hands very nice, polite and helpful. We felt safe and secure the whole ride there and back. Shut car windows though. Sometimes water can get choppy if windy and waves splash up inside the ferry into windows. We observed some people left windows down and had wet interiors!

The ferry is a great way to get back and forth to the island. Drive up and wait in line which usually doesn't take that long. Be sure to buy your ticket while you are waiting to drive on to the ferry. Taking your car is the best way to get around the island. If you want to park and ride the ferry over there is a trolley on the island that will take you on a guided tour to the highlights of the island. Otherwise be sure to get a map to find your way around the island. Lots to see by car and many hidden gems.

This is a quick, fun ride. It only takes about 30 minutes to cross over to the fabulous Washington Island! You've got to go at least once in your life!

I was a little skeptical at first when this was booked. I am happy to say I was wrong! All the employees from the ticket agent to the man loading us onto the ferry were so helpful and pleasant! We were on motorcycles and they were super helpful. If you’re in the area I would most definitely recommend taking the ferry to Washington Island!!

My daughter wanted to visit the 2 lavender farms on the island for her BD so hopped on the ferry. Super easy and an enjoyable ride. My recommendation is to plan to go earlier in the day if possible. Waited in line for an hour and a half at noon time to go over. But it’s summer and that’s just the way it is. No wait on the return

They were right on time. Loading the ferry went very smoothly and efficiently. The ride was very good and provides a needed service.

Excellent service, very helpful. Fair prices.
I had a larger rig. They took extra care to make sure nothing got scratched.

If you can go early. You buy your ticket at the booth by the ferry. They guys load and unload very quickly. You can stay in your car our get out. The upper deck has benches to enjoy the view. It does get windy. The line can get long in the afternoon. They will have 4 ferry running than so the line does move.
I agree the price is a little high. The island is fun to go and check out.

We were able to get the first ferry of the morning to Washington Island, and the first one to leave in the afternoon. Those times fit our vacation schedule best. they really crammed our SUV cattywampus to get on, but it made it safe along trucks. It was an awesome way to get to the Island and back! Price was fairly priced.

My wife and I took the ferry over to Washington Island for a visit and to look for a house. It was a very cool experience as I have not been a ferry in over 30 years, and my wife has never been on one. The ride was smooth even in rough waters, and the captain a other crew were very friendly and was very helpful with hints and unanswered all the questions we had about the ferry and island. I would definitely recommend this if your in the area. Just one thing make sure you are in line at least 30 minutes early so you don't miss the ferry back to the main land, as there is very few places to stay on the island and they are usually booked up way in advance.

We did a round trip car trip on this Ferry. Going over I had a view from our vehicle and the ride was really good. Coming back we knew we would be the last vehicle on. We were number 12 car. Now some of the boats hold up to 18 cars depending on size. How about 13 cars and two full size buses. One bus was next to us which meant you couldn't use your drivers door to get out. I don't know who is small enough to get out of a door with 6 inches. And that is what we had. They know how to back the vehicles on the Ferry and they do a darn good job. It was windy and the lake was a little rough. Our little dog did okay going over, but coming back she wanted off the boat. Hmm. Not possible. I sat with her in our vehicle until we landed. It is about a 30 minute ride.

cost us $60 but I think it's worth it at least once. We went very early - got there by 9:20. we were maybe the 6th car back. The road to it is like a sports car commercial. zooming left to right. The people working were so nice and looked happy doing what they do. My boys 4 and 7 just loved it. Bring a jacket because with the wind it can me chilly. the boat there had 2 decks well the one back had 1. In future I would wait for the bigger one if I had known. the ride back took a bit longer - maybe the 12 car back. While the people getting on (around 2) were piled back for over a mile. (over 100 cars) so plan ahead if going late in the day.

Very efficient service from the mainland to the island and the return back. Take note if you don't bring your own vehicle across to the island, you will need to buy tickets and tour the island via the Cherry train, rent mopeds or a UTV (which requires reservations). It is difficult to travel the whole island walking. (We rented moped and they were a blast!) We were on the island when the lavender fields were in full bloom which was absolutely gorgeous!!

Nice people that do their job and do it well. Not sure if they don't get many people to joke around with or that are nice to them, but they seemed taken aback when I talked to them. Maybe it was too early in the morning? lol

With a car and 4 adults the total cost was only $83. A fun activity with great water views of the islands around the top of Door County.

A bit pricey but we recommend you park your car, walk on to the ferry and pay for the tour at the same time (saves money). Enjoyable two hours touring Washington Island

We took the ferry from Northpoint to Washington Island. The ride was scenic and pleasant and took about 20 minutes. Very quick load and unload. You can either sit in your vehicle, in the passenger cabin or outside seating. Pleasant crew.

First time on this ferry, and it was a terrific experience. The crew is clearly very experienced, and it was fun watching them arrange all of the vehicles for the trip. You can stay in your vehicle or enjoy the fresh air and great views on the trip. There is no food or beverage service, but the trip is short enough that it shouldn't be an issue.

Despite the freezing cold temperatures we so enjoyed our ferry trip to and from Washington Island. The staff were super friendly and did a great job of filling up the ferry efficiently. The ride offered beautiful views and took about 30 minutes.

ferry ride with our Nissan NV 3500 and 8 passengers for a day on Washington Island. Smooth ride through "Deaths Door" with a good view of Plum Island lighthouse.

We got to the dock around 8:45 a.m., and reached the island close to 10. However, when we came back to the mainland around 2 p.m., it looked like the wait would be closer to 2 hours! They were just putting all 3 ferries into service as we got there in the a.m., but we weren't thrilled to see a tour bus pull past us as we waited - and then go to the head of the line.
If you're going to the Lavender Farm, first continue east on Townline past the farm for a half mile - and you'll see an even more beautiful field of lavender (and a 100 year old building) at a former dairy/now art gallery site.

The large ferries to Washington Island run regularly every half-hour, many times a day during the summer season, very convenient. We've never brought a car, so no problems boarding on time. There are free wooded parking lots near the port to leave your car. We saw cars in line that had to wait for the next run, so arrive early if you take a car. The roundtrip to the island would make a fun sightseeing trip in itself; you pass smaller islands on the way, and can often see cormorants, pelicans, sometimes an eagle. There is both outdoor and some indoor seating on the ferry for colder weather. The visitor center on the island has clean facilities, vending machines, restrooms, and plenty of info. We enjoy renting bikes (across from the visitor center) to tour the island.

Went on a Saturday Morning. Super busy, with lines of cars. Wish there was better signage further back to pull ahead if you weren't taking a car. Glad we went over as a pedestrian and rented mopeds! Good facility with info and bathrooms.

Holds 16 cars over and back to the island, around 30 minutes. Can get a little choppy but not terrible. Nice views, the colors are starting to change. I imagine it's awesome when it's full out fall. I especially liked the newspaper clipping explaining who our boat was named after inside the passenger waiting area. Nice outdoor seating too, but it can get cold and windy.

The cost is very inexpensive. The ride is pleasant we take the ferry every time we go to Door county

We had never been to Washington Island before. The ferry ride was fine, about 30 minutes. Great weather makes it a nice trip. The loading line and ticket selling is absurdly dysfunctional. When we pulled up to buy the tickets the worker told us to go on and park and come back for tickets, we nodded and started to pull through and she immediately shouted that we needed tickets to board. We purchased our tickets and were loaded onto the ferry absolutely confused by the whole process. Another time we loaded on we pulled into line where there are two lanes by the ticket booth, passed the stop sign. We were then scolded for using that second lane because they wanted us to load single file. We thought we were being polite by pulling up in line so others could get through to buy their tickets. A few signs and a bullet pointed procedure for employees to follow would go a long way in taking some tension out of this operation. Loading was done well with most workers being polite if not friendly. This fiasco of a business is lucky they are the only option to get to and from the island. They add little to no positivity to your trip.

Ferry runs often enough to be super convenient. Great views and plenty of seating. Tickets are purchased cash or card.

Opted to leave the car and pay for passenger ride only to Washington Island. Depending on how many people you plan to take, its $13.50 per person, and $26 per vehicle for the round-trip. So we opted to rent bikes ($7/hr) on the island (you also have mopeds, side-by-sides, ATV available for rent). So, depending on what you want to see, and how much time you have, you have a number of options to plan your visit.
Plan according to your visit intent. If you plan to do a lot of activities, and have packed your vehicle, it will be much more convenient to pay for your vehicle & bring your stuff.

We enjoyed our ride over and back on both ends of Washington Island. Very efficient crew getting cars off and on. Lots of time to visit with other passengers. We are 900 miles from home and ran into someone who had eaten at our favorite restaurant just days before.

The ferry crew was very accommodating and friendly. It is fun to watch them load all of the cars and direct the traffic. The captain even let our daughter drive the boat. A bit pricey to get the island but when you consider the trip, it was worth it.

Picturesque ride to Washington Island offering great views of the lake. Trip was not too long and reasonably priced.

Very inexpensive ride for our car and two adults.Ferry moves quickly and attendants know how to do their job in an efficient and friendly manner.

Get to the ferry early, as cars will wait in line to drive on once the ferry unloads the cars coming back. The ferry can only take so many cars, so if it's full, you have to wait a while before the next one. It can get pretty wavy out there... on a windy day you may want to take your motion sickness medication. The ferry is pretty expensive for just a day trip.

Enjoyed the trip over to Washington island. The staff made sure we got our RV on board safely. We stayed in our RV since we had our puppy along. It was about a 30 minute ride over and very convenient to return with trips going every half hour.

They;re great about getting everyone on to the ferry quickly, and attempting to fit as many cars as possible. However because of that, one of the employees got a little frustrated helping us park on the boat. So id recommend asking someone for help if its your first time. this was our first time and we didn't expect a crew member to have such a bad attitude. everything else was great though. quick ride, very beautiful.

Nice cool ride on a hot day. Soothing rocking motion. Easy to get on and off with a vehicle. You do have to wait in line on a Saturday midday so plan ahead. About 15 minutes tops.

Took the ferry without a prior reservation on a weekday in the middle of August. Very efficient trip to the island but a 45 minute wait for the return trip. We took are car since we really wanted to explore all areas of the island. On the island you are removed from all of the commotion of Door County. Wonderful white rock beach cannot be beat! Restaurants on the island are few and far between.

the ride over to the island was smooth but on the way back very bumpy, but still enjoyed the experience

I don't know how many times I've taken the ferry over the last four decades, but now as a full-time resident of Door County I've taken it many times recently. All you have to do is pull up to the dock, buy your ticket and follow the guidance of the workers (There are multiple ferries running back and forth during the busy season). You are directed to drive on and park where you're told. If you're lucky enough to get on early, go upstairs and watch as they expertly pack all the vehicles on. You'll be amazed at their skill at using every available space on the car deck. You can ride in your vehicle, or go upstairs and ride inside the cabin or outside. I will always prefer outside except in inclement weather.

The ride across the channel was fun. It started off foggy, but turned out to be a gorgeous day. It was Memorial Day weekend. There were many cars so there was
a long line to board. They had a ferry crossing every fifteen minutes instead of every hour, which made it convenient. The visit to the Island is well worth it. There are many sites to see.

You drive to very north top of Door County,Park for free and take transport ferry to Washington Island. You purchase tickets there for a combo-ferry+cherry train tour on island,or ticket just for ferry to island,or your vehicle or bikes as well. Very efficient, smooth running system. Beautiful views, can be a bit choppy depending on the water of course. About a 30 min trip there. You can sit inside ferry or outside on deck. Very breezy we always bring hoodies/jackets but spectacular views.

Pleasant ride with easy on and off. EXCEPT for Captain Joel, who greeted each car to get their tickets WITHOUT a mask. Beware, if anyone has come in contact with Covid 19, he has.

They did a great job of filling up the ferry, and it was a great ride over and it was on time. It was kinda pricy for a car with 3, but it did its job.

This was a lot of fun! I only wish it were longer. The attendants grabbed our bikes quickly and secured them so they wouldn't fall over. The other attendants made sure we knew where to park. Nice family outing on the lake. Plenty of time between trips so you don't "miss the boat."

We had an unfortunate event where we were in a long line that was time consuming to get on the ferry.....right at the end of waiting, someone cut in front of us with their car. They refused to get out of line so when we bought our ticket we notified the agents who promptly told them to get out of line and go to the back of the line. The guy argued and argued and argued with this young girl and he made her cry. We notified another agent and she too had to argue with him and he finally after 20 minutes of arguing left the line. Seems so silly but we all waited our turn in that line on a hot summer day. The staff was excellent and I feel terrible that there are awful people in this world that are going to argue with a young girl at her summer job and made her cry. The staff was great, ferry was cheap and a great viewing area. We loved it all.

My extended family took the ferry over to Washington Island & back on a Sunday in August. We had 2 trucks and 1 mini van and were very satisfied with how efficient and careful they were at loading the ferry. We were able to get out of our vehicles and sit up top to take in the beautiful views. The ride was very smooth and took less than 30 minutes. We arrived around 10:30 am and had to wait for 1 ferry to leave before we could go and then on the way back we left around 2:00 and got on pretty quickly, however there was quite a line after us to be prepared for that if staying on the island longer.

I was afraid we'd have a long wait to get our car on the ferry, but there was little waiting. On the way to the Island, there was a line of cars waiting to get on, but we did get on that ferry and didn't have to wait for another one to come back. Going back in the morning, we were one of the first cars on a smaller ferry and could drive straight on.

There is no proper restaurant or sanitation facility inside the island. Also the colors are terrible not that much good spots. the Ferry is also overpriced as we paid around 80 bucks for 4 people.

We took the ferry to the island and back. Had our car with which made travel on the island EASY. If you’re even considering bringing your car - just do it you’ll be glad you did.

Our ferry ride was uneventful. The ride to Washington Island was failrly smooth, and we were able to sit on the open top level. While on the island, the winds had picked up, and there were small whitecap waves. The ride back was a little bumpier, but not bad, altho it was a little chilly on deck, so we opted to sit inside. The people outside did get a little spray in their faces, We enjoyed the very winding road to the Northport Ferry dock, as well as our time on the island. Two thumbs up.

The crossing was efficient enough. BUT-ridiculously expensive. Last year we paid $25 for 4 of us to cross in our car. This year, we were shocked to discover that the same crossing was $88! Now they charge $28 for the vehicle and $15 per person (gas prices are no different than when we were here last). There’s not much to do on the island, had lunch at a good soup place on the water. They’ve now priced themselves out of our budget-we won’t be back.

Went to island on a super windy day and the ferry ride was quite an experience. Crew was very helpful on getting all the cars onboard, little pricey for 4 adults. Can enjoy the view from one of the ferry decks or stay in your car.

While taking the ferry is a necessity if you want to visit Washington Island, it was not an experience to be missed. The views in the wide are absolutely beautiful and I always love being on the open water with wind in my face!
Our ride to Washington Island was smooth but the ride back was extremely choppy with huge waves coming over the ramp of the front of the boat. Both my husband and I were slightly seasick as choppy as the ride back was but we think that was amplified by us being in the car.

We did go over with our car, a little to cold to bike. They recommended staying in cars, which we had no problem with (covid).

Jumped the ferry to Washington Island. Total ride probably took 10 minutes. Loved the wind on my face as we crossed. Relaxing!!

So the passage to Washington island through Deaths Door ( the channel between Lake Michigan and Green Bay) was exciting. There was a north wind which created GREAT waves. I loved it. I saw the cars on the ferry rock significantly side to side, thinking I should have set my parking brake. Great waves were splashing on the front of the ferry. Normally the winds are from the south, resulting in a much calmer journey.
Today they were from the uncommon north. Loading and unloading went very smoothly. I can’t imagine the line for the ferry on weekends.
The ride back was very smooth.
Wonderful experience.

We had the perfect day for a ferry ride. Temperature was perfect, sun was shining and it wasn't real windy. We thoroughly enjoyed our ride over to the Island and back.

We took the ferry over to Washington island and back. The loading process was efficient and we did not have a long wait to board. The only downside is that you pay for both the vehicle and the people inside the vehicle.

its a ferry boat if you dont know dont go. kids always enjoy the ride there. well it will take you to an island winch is cool.

We rode the ferry to Washington Island yesterday to sightsee. We took our car over. Very pleasant. The ride back went faster and was rougher. Keep car windows up as some splashing does occur.

They do a great job getting everyone on and off quickly and orderly and getting everyone on their way! Don't hesitate to use it to get to the island for the day!

The crew on the ferry really know what they are doing. We were so glad we took our car over to the island. However getting on the ferry is quite confusing if you’ve never done it before. People literally stop on the road and that is where you would line up. Thankfully when we were there and when we got to the top of the line, someone came out from the ferry company with an iPad of sorts and helped us pay and determine how we were getting back and forth without having to get out of our car. I suggest getting there as early as possibly.

Took the passenger ferry to Washington Island for the Lavender Festival. It was a beautiful day and the lake was like glass. The captain explained the waters, the islands, the old lighthouse and many other specifics while we were riding to the island. All in all, it was a very enjoyable trip both ways. We paid $13 per person round trip and the ferry goes many times during the day. Many brought bikes to the island on the ferry also.

Had a nice ferry ride out to the island and back. Appreciated the larger capacity. We didn't have a long wait like we did the last time I went to the island.

You haven’t lived until you travel on the ferry line from North Point across Port de Mort to Washington Island

Smooth ferry trip. The crew was very efficient loading and unloading vehicles. You can buy your ticket for the ferry when you arrive/while in line to load on the ferry. Washington Island was worth the ferry trip.

We took the auto ferry to Washington Island. It was well worth the money because we were able to explore the entire island on our own. You don't get to see the entire island if you take the Tram Tour. The ferry is a nice, smooth, scenic ride to the island. It's also pet friendly.

Worth going just for the ride!!
This is a very well run operation, and just $15.00 per person for a total of about 50 minutes (30 minutes each way) for a "sail" on open water is definitely worth it!
The cost per car is $28.00, btw, but if we go back we will probably take an early morning or very late afternoon ride just for the fun of it.

we had no lines by doing this and were able to see the island within our 4hr limited time window. Thought the ferry company did a fine job. The ride is about 30mins and they were on time for departure both ways.

Beautiful scenery throughout the island. Nice for exploring by bike. Great food at the grand hotel. Loved every bit of it.

We loved our trips on the ferry, to and from the island. Definitely GET OUT OF YOUR CAR and go to the top level of the ferry and enjoy the sights! We ended up on the 7pm ferry one evening and it was right during sunset and it was spectacular. The staff was helpful and the trip was super enjoyable.

We visited Washington Island for the first time today, taking in the ferry at about 3 pm and heading back around 5:30. Heading there was OK, but we had to wait in line about an hour to board for the trip back. Not much to do on the island, so if we ever visit again we might just take the cherry train.

I am always amazed at the efficiency and friendliness at the Washington Island Ferry Line! They get cars/trucks/buses on board so quickly and easily - it's like a vehicle ballet! And, they seem to know where to place me for easy on, easy off. Love the Ferry Line crew!

My wife and I recently enjoyed a ride on the ferry, while visiting Door County and Washington Island. It's a short half hour ride both ways, but very relaxing. You can stay in your car or if your boarding position permits go up to the top deck and sightsee. They sandwich everybody on and make use of all available room, but in a very safe manner. The cost was $53.00 total roundtrip , $13.50 each for adults and $26.00 for the car. It's not the cheapest, but if your visiting Door County, then a trip to the island is a must.

Of course it does. I didn't mean that in a negative way. We have traveled on ferrys many times. If you have never used one before it would be a pleasant adventure. For us it was pleasant but not an adventure. The fare on the ferry, I thought was very reasonable. For three adults and vehicle round trip was $66. Not bad at all. The trip back was exciting, we were the first vehicle and the water was rough. So a car wash was included.

After living in WI my entire life, I finally made it to Washington Island. We had no trouble lining up to bring our car onto the ferry. Staff was great at directing us how to get on board and where to park, sliding our small vehicle perfectly in the corner. The 30 minute ride was pleasant, even though there was a north wind. We asked staff basic island questions, of which they were happy to answer. My only suggestion is to line up early for the car ferry, like 30 minutes prior to departure time. They only fit so many vehicles on board. And yes, there is a toilet on the boat. Happy sailing!

The ferry was easy and relaxing on the way to Washington Island. It wasn't too crowded, and the driver gave us a mini tour while we were en route. Highly recommend the Washington Island Ferry Line to get over to Washington Island!

We've traveled to Washington Island multiple times in the past 12 years on the ferry. We most recently visited this weekend (September 7-9), and had a pleasant crossing as always. The crew is always polite and we were impressed that extra ferries were running on Saturday due to high demand, so the wait was very short. We know we're in safe hands with the ferry. 👍🏽 Scenic ride across the water. Takes approximately 25-30 min.

Very smooth sailing on to us passenger/vehicle ferry cruise. Definitely take your car on this ferry if you plan to explore Washington Island .... the shops and attractions are spread out so unless you are renting a moped or bikes, you will need some mode of transportation!
The ferry is very smooth and the staff are informative. There's ample parking if you are not taking your car on the ferry at the dock where you purchase tickets. The ferry runs every 30-45 minutes depending on the crowds / time of year. And it takes approximately 30 mins to get from northport pier to the island.
Take a jacket/windbreaker as the Fall breezes can be chilly.

My family and I have been over there lots. It’s a beautiful island. Need to have a activity on the board the boat. Then nobody is bored.

I am conflicted about this experience. I enjoyed the actual ride over to the island. What I did not enjoy was all the idiots that were all around the experience. The road that you sit on to enter the ferry, understandably stops moving, because the ferry loads, and runs cars to the island. So there is a WAIT. I am not sure which was more annoying, the kids getting out of the pickup in front of us, running around their car the entire ride, or the KARENS that kept exiting their cars and walking to see what the wait was?! The Ferry could have done a better job about communicating wait times, felt a little disorganized. Ride was smooth once on boat. The island was a huge let down.

Great prices and everyone was happy and helpful.
We did a round trip through Death's Door and it was great.

Walk on or drive on the ferry. About a 1/2 hour ride across. Very calming ride. I would suggest taking your vehicle if possible. Nothing much on the island where you get off the ferry. Much cheaper to bring your vehicle than to rent an ATV like we had too! Most everything to see if scattered around the island and too far to walk. We did not realize this! But, it also was fun with my two daughters to rent the ATV to explore the island!!

It's a great way to get across the bay. Weather you have a bike, motorcycle, car or just walking they can get you across the bay and onto Washington Island.
There is a place to sit and enjoy the ride if you don't want to stay in your vehicle.
If you have your dog with you, you are not allowed to go up in the seating area with your pet.

Very busy, but very professional. The crew can direct traffic with machine-like precision. The ride is smooth and pleasant. You can stay in your car or climb up to the top deck. Prices are quite moderate for the service. There are restrooms on board. They do not take reservations, and you might have to wait to board, but they will get you on your way as soon as possible.

Always a dependable, safe crossing between Northport and Washington Island, but a bit pricey at $53 for a car and two passengers.

A wonderful day experience spending the day on Washington Island. Visiting the stavkyrka, the lavender gardens and visiting the beach. The ferry ride across Deaths Door, after which Door County is named. If the weather is good, one should sit on the top deck and enjoy a great ride of approximately a half hour. If the weather is bad, stay in your car, the view of the islands will be better by remaining in your car! We left Door County on the 10 am ferry and returned on the 3:00 ferry.

We had planned on taking the ferry over without our car and just do the Cherry train tour. Instead it was suggested to take the car and skip the train. What a great recommendation. We drove around the island for about 6 hours and saw all that we wanted to see.

I was with a large group of people on a bus tour of Door County, Wisconsin and Washington Island. Wow our driver was great as he backed a tour bus in between a beer truck and another large truck. Apparently in the summer time the ferry goes back and forth numerous times each day.

Our family took the round trip ferry trip to go to Washington Island for the day while on vacation. The staff was wonderful, loading and unloading was very easy, and the Ferry's were very nice. The water was very rough that day, but we felt safe and secure. Thanks for the great trip!

For $13 per person you get to take the 30 min. ferry to Washington Island, an isolated little island with beautiful beaches and quaint little shops. For $26 you get to drive your own car. Need to have a car. Arrive early to take advantage of all there is to do here.

First time on the Island, of course with a vehicle this is the only option to get there but the short ride and service from the crew was great, bonus was the sun and calm lake!

If you just want to take a Ferry ride I would say go. If you want things to do on the Island, go to the Bahamas.I repeat there is nothing to do on the Island.
(Automobile (Passengers not included) $26.00)
Adult $13.50
Child (ages 6-11) $7.00
Child (ages 5 and under) FREE
Save your money and go to a Fish Boil

The ferry crew were accommodating, friendly, and actually had a great sense of humor. These guys had some mad skills at loading vehicles, and explaining to people how to actually parallel park. I had a blast watching all the patrons with no apparent driving experience trying to park along the outside edges of the ferry. It was comical. And the crew demonstrated nothing but patience and great people skills, which was cool to see. Anyway, the ferry arrived and left on time, and made the trip to Washington Island and back seamlessly.

Cost for using the ferry is pretty high (car and passengers have to pay). Enjoyable ride to Washington Island and back. Staff was kind and helpful.

We live in Seattle so we take ferry boats all the time with our car. They are less expensive and much larger than these ferries. I was surprised how expensive this ferry was too take over to Washington Island for the day. But the ferry ran on time and allowed walk-ones...for $13.50 per person to walk on.

These guys are great. We were able to get on early and they loaded all of the cars but then they skillfully loaded a dump truck full of gravel and then a semi with a load of logs. Great ride both over and back.

I must say it's strange to be riding in your car on the ferry. The car rocking to and fro felt very strange. But the water was rough on the way there and not so much on the way back. Nontheless, it was a great trip.

On time and professional. What more can you ask for? Smooth sailing, 30 minutes each way. Don’t be late to get in line.

Washington island
Most people come to the island for a look at school house beach or a ride on the cheery train but there are lots of new things to see. Several new restaurants including a bread company and a sweet shop. The police have a new station right in Main St. Also a few restaurants have a new look including a back deck at Red Cup Coffee. Worth the ferry ride because there is plenty to do and see.

Three other motorcyclists and I were heading to Washington Island. We had to wait awhile to board the ferry, but it wasn't a big deal. A car cut in line ahead of us while we were waiting, and a member of the Ferry staff told them to get out and go to the back of the line. Thought that was very professional and courteous to the folks already in line. She then told us to go to the front of the line because motorcycles can usually get in because they're smaller than cars. We were really appreciative of the info, and we were able to catch the ferry instead of waiting for the next one. It's also neat to watch how they load the vehicles, like large-scale Tetris.

The Washington Island Ferry Line is the absolute best ferry line I that I have ever used. Great experience, very friendly staff.

Great options for locals/ tourists! Once on the ferry, its a smooth and relaxing ride. There's beautiful views of Washington Island as well Michigan Lake. If you enjoy boat rides you'll love a ride on the Ferry! Strongly recommend this for everyone.

I think everyone of every age should enjoy a ferry ride it’s a great way to get somewhere. We drove our car on because we weren’t interested in biking or renting mopeds. The crew are very professional at getting you on the ferry and will politely and informatively answer questions. It’s a 30” trip and I recommend the third level to enjoy the clean air and views of surrounding islands.

We decided to take the car ferry to Washington Island on Labor Day. It was easy and convenient to take the car. We got to the ferry right before 11 a.m. just as they were finishing loading. It was a nice ride to the Island. We were able to get a good view from the upper deck of the ferry. After a drive around the island with a few stops we caught the ferry back around 3 p.m. It was an easy process to get loaded up for the return trip with just a short wait.

We were looking to spend some time on Washington Island and decided to take the train, which isn't really a train but rather a tram, of sorts. We conveniently (and at a discounted rate) booked our ride when we paid for our ferry tickets. Our guide Hans was clearly passionate about the island he calls home, and he was very knowledgeable about all of the sites we visited. The five stops included all of the places we'd wanted to see after doing a little research ourselves, so this was a wonderful way to easily visit the island.

They can accommodate many vehicles and though the schedule said hourly, they were running at least even 30 minutes. Our goal was to catch the Rock Island State Park ferry and timing worked for us. It's about a 30 minute ride to Washington Island.

We went over to the island on one of the busiest weekends of the year (lavender festival weekend)! We arrived at 1:00 pm on Friday afternoon only to be stuck on the winding road, a half mile from the dock!
It took over an hour to get on to the Ferry! The ferry line had four ferry's going this weekend! Yes it was inconvenient but I was happy for the tourists (Washington Island's main source of $)! Patience prevailed and we were put in line by friendly and professional staff! Once on the ferry we were directed into parking tight in a corner!
These guys are great! In no time the ferry was loaded and we were in our way!
Professional and friendly staff!
They do all they can to move people along!
Great way to get to Washington Island!
Our return trip was much better with less traffic! Amazing to see a semi on our Ferry!

This is a nice way to go to Washington Island. It's a short trip but it gets you out on the water. Wonderful views from the upper level.

You can get right on and right off with many runs per day and increased at rush hours/days. If leaving in the morning from the island, just get up a little early and you'll have no wait.

This fairy was very professional, very smooth, and quite clean. Enjoy the ride over to the Washington Island and the ride back to Northport Pier. Lots of cars and trucks went with us for the ride.

I’ve been coming to Door County since the 1980’s and this is the first time I rode the ferry with our car, had always been a walk on passenger previously on the other line. Guys loading are very precise and the ride is about 30 minutes. I don’t know why I waited this long and I want to do it again. And Washington Island is awesome. Very cool.

We are always looking forward to seeing the Ferry arrive from the Island when we're in Door County! As we turn the curve to get in line the excitement begins.
Just waiting in the line for a chance to board the Ferry in the car or on foot is a special treat an exhilarating expectation!
It's very interesting to see how the Ferry arrives, the faces of the people arriving and how it is to anticipate what it will feel like each ride! Definitely unpredictable but always a great adventure! Absolutely a treat!

WIFL had a second and larger Ice Breaker built and put into service earlier in 2020!
The new boat is a welcome addition as in addition to being a backup for the Ice Breaker “Arni J Richter” it also adds appreciable summertime automobile capacity to help reduce wait time getting to and from the island.

Wonderful experience; the operation is efficient and well organized.
The staff person selling tickets was helpful and informative. Boarding and departing the ferry is quick and easy.
The ferry ride itself is a highlight; the views are impressive of the water, lighthouse and islands. Going to the Island, we traveled over open water; but on our return we went straight through the ice. Watching the ice reacting to the ferry plowing through was fascinating. Being colder outside, many people remained in their vehicles; but one can access all sides of the ferry during the crossings.
Even if one is not interested in spending much time on the Island; the ferry ride itself is worth the experience.

Taking the ferry to Washington Island is a wonderful experience for adults and children. The ride itself and the scenic journey is a great experience. Then exploring Washington Island’s treasures makes for a wonderful day, do include lunch at one of your many choices. Make sure you include the Stave Church and the nearby Lavender Garm and Shop. A really nice experience, the ferry runs every 45 minutes, so you will never have to wait very long. Make sure you plan your return time according to the Ferry schedule. This is a “MUST DO” experience!

Had a great trip across and back. No issues. Would go again as we came in the off-season. It was rocking a bit with the high winds but was fun.

The only way to get you and your car to Washington Island. Very worth the trip and a car is the only way to see all of the Island. The crew was very efficient and quick at loading and unloading cars and the trip was smooth.

Fun time for the grandkids. Some of the kids had never been on a boat and the experience of driving the car on was exciting.

Didn’t take as long as expected to get on the boat or for the ferry to arrive at the island. There are bathrooms on.l board. Price is a little high. $27 for the car in addition to $14 per person.

This provided a nice break in between activities. Very relaxing. You can sit in your car or go up on deck.

The ferry line is usually long and inefficient. But staff is super nice. But also not worth the trip. Not much to do over there except eat and drink. Beaches are better at peninsula state park.

This is always a special treat! We boarded on foot and spent a few hours on Washington Island. Met two ladies and their dog Mika!! Beautiful day for a ferry ride! Just a short flight of steps to the seats..some are outside some inside..the dock looks mysteriously like the same one in Hills Rock!!

When the ferry ride was the best part of the trip to Washington Island, that doesn’t say too much about Washington Island. The boat over was crowded, but we spent our time on the upper deck. Coming back was a whole different story. I felt like a sardine. I was stuck in my truck and couldn’t get out I just prayed that the ferry didn’t hit anything. There would have been no way out and I would have drowned for sure. There must be some kind of US Coast Guard regulations preventing this from happening. Our first and last trip.

We took the combo trip to Rock Island and back in early July. It worked well for us. We had minimal waits and the ride (we sat outside) was interesting and scenic. It's not cheap but we felt we got our money's worth.
Two warnings. First bring a jacket if you want to sit outside. It was very brisk out on the water even tho it was a warm day. Second, there were dozens of cars waiting at the Northport terminal at 4:30 on Saturday July 1. If you have a tight schedule, you might want to check with the ferry or some other local on traffic patterns.

Pay the extra and take the vehicle. We were led to believe, by the ticket agents at the ferry, there are many methods to get around the island, without the vehicle. There are only bikes, UTV (pricey), mopeds and an unreliable shuttle service. Ferry was fun

We take this ferry yearly. Never disappointed with cleanliness of the ship or the friendliness of the staff. Load up and load off are always quick and well managed by their boating staff.

We traveled to Washington Island with our bicycles. The skill of the crew is evident in the loading process. Two inclosed cabin areas. and an upper deck exterior viewing area allows passengers choices. Accessibility to passengers in wheel chairs may not provide these choices because of stairways. Our bikes were carefully stowed on deck and secured with bunnies. Going over we chose the second deck cabin because the weather was cool. In the afternoon on our return trip, we enjoyed the top outdoor deck and all the sights of the bay.

This was the First time riding a ferry boat for the grandchildren and they thought it was so cool. The team was very efficient getting the cars onto the ferry.

Due to rain we had to stay inside but still had a nice ride to and fro Washington Island. It was noisy inside. One friend had a hard time finding the washroom. We did not bring our car but many were on the ferry.

Took the ferry over to Washington Island and toured on the Cherry Train (really just an open air trolley pulled by a truck). Made 5 stops including the School House beach which had stones instead of sand, a farm museum, a lavender farm, a museum/art gallery, and a Nordic style church. Ferry ride was OK - just a normal ride.

Easy and fairly short ride over to the island. They load up as efficiently as possible. Bring a jacket as it can be cool and quite breezy on the open water. Watch the horizon if you feel a little sea sick.
Process: Arrive a while before departure. Get in the line of cars. Walk up to the counter and pay. For your car and passengers (5 adults, one child, one car = $100.50 round trip). They will direct you on board as you drive your car on board

Can be quite crowded in the summer, so arrive early. We always enjoy the half-hour ride. In the winter you need to make reservations and you get to enjoy the crunching as the ferry breaks through the ice.

Well organized trip on a Tuesday. Arrived about 10:00. Wait time was minimal. We're in ferry and underway within 20minutes with a full ferry. Reasonable price for family of 4 and a 1 ton Ford truck. Return trip was the same. Glad we took our own vehicle to island to explore on our time table.

The crew is amazing getting everyone on and off the ferry. Whether you stay in your car or go to the upper deck during the short trip from the mainland to the island, the scenery is beautiful.

We always enjoy this scenic ferry ride to Washington Island. We get to roam around and enjoy the view. Crew is nice and friendly!

Let me start by saying I do not enjoy being on the water. That being said, taking the ferry is an experience. The views on the way across are impressive. They manage to move vehicles on and off with great efficiency. I felt it was quite pricey, though. And we got stuck in a traffic jamb waiting to get back across and ended up waiting around two hours. Not a planned use of time on our trip, but we can say we crossed Deaths Door!

The ferry was a nice smooth ride over, the staff was friendly, and we enjoyed our trip. Will visit again

We took the ferry ride to Washington Island without our car and elected to take the Cherry Train around the Island. We left in the morning which was a little cold and windy as we crossed. The Cherry Train was a nice way to see the island because the guide was able to provide some history and insight about the island at select locations. The tour was 2 hours, but there a few things I would have liked to see which the train did not go to due to the distance. I would recommend bringing your car to see more things or renting bikes.

These people know what they are doing and they get you on and off the ferry in no time. Not a bad price but you pay for the car and the people. You can move around and sit in indoor or outdoor areas. There is also a bathroom on board if you need it.

Fast efficient friendly reasonable transportation to the island. What more does one need in a ferry? Ferry was full both ways,

We have used the ferry several times to go over to Washington Island. They help you park your car in the appropriate place, and the view from the upper deck is wonderful.

The boat was big enough to accommodate everyone. The attendants get creative while keeping everyone safe to get everyone on board and across.

You have to have a vehicle or mode of transportation when exploring Washington Island. We paid $53 for our vehicle and two of us round trip. Well worth it for the 30 minutes ferry ride. Beautiful view, comfortable boat!

Great ride. Amazing staff and very accommodating. They keep the ferries running very timely and we were impressed how they master the art of directing the vehicles on the ferry so safely and professionally. Upper deck provided a great view of the islands and Death's Door. Fun day trip. Staff and Crew are top notch!

Tickets for the ferry and cherry train can be purchased together. $13.50 per adult round trip on the ferry. $15pp for the Cherry Train. The ride was smooth. We did not take our car ($26 each way). There is free parking at the pier. Our "train" driver/guide was Janet - beautiful smile, very informative and so obviously loves her island. It was a terrific 2 hours with several stops. Highly recommend!

We took the Washington Island Ferry in October 2017. Not sure how many cars they take on, but each way we had no problem getting on. It's a nice little trip....you get to see the sights on the way. The day we went I thought the water looked rough. When I mentioned it to an associate they said it was fine....so I did feel better by that reassurance. You would love this...we took the car and did some sightseeing and stopped at some local attractions. I would do this again and again!

We took the Ferry over to Washington Island on a recent trip to Door County. Everyone that we encountered from the parking attendant, to the ticket window and the boat operators were friendly and pleasant to work with. The ferry was a fun way to get to the island and we enjoyed it.

If your visit to Door County doesn't allow time for a longer boat tour of the lighthouses, this is a great way to catch a few of the islands on that tour while on the way to Washinton Island in all its quirky, remote beauty. They seem to increase the number of crossings on busy days and have loading the ferries down to a science, so it's well organized and the wait times don't seem extreme. Price is so relative, I found it a good value though others have deemed it pricey. Bringing your bike or renting over there would be a cost effective alternative, and the island looks pretty bikeable in a day. It's flatter than the peninsula. A great start and finish to an excellent day trip.

It is expensive, $53 for a RT Car with 2 adults. Then we sailed backwards, I have been on many a ferry but have never sailed backwards and hope to never do it again. Did not follow the schedule at all.
Had a nice visit to Washington Island but won’t be back due to price. Sorry

First time there, but planning on going back next year. Death's Door BBQ Contest (named after Port des Morts the channel/strait linking Lake Michigan to Green Bay, called Death's Door because of all the maritime fatalities in the channel over the years) was incredibly well attended. So many places to spend time hiking, climbing, swimming, fishing, and YES... eating! There's even a neat little place called Sievers School of Fiber Arts, where numerous art forms are taught and the students' efforts/outputs are sold in an attached shop, along with numerous tools and raw materials for knitting, weaving, carving, etc. Restaurants that we particularly liked were K.K. Fiske's Granary, Jackson Harbor Soup (though I would recommend the lunches over the dinners), Fiddlers Green, The Point Grille (biscuits & gravy with a pair of basted eggs), the Albatross for burgers. Don't miss the pedestrians only ferry to Rock Island and the lighthouse there, as well as hiking to the camping areas. Great place to spend a week (or four, or more).
We rode the ferry to the island. The ride was comfortable. Can sit either outside or in. Recommend you bring your vehicle or bikes. Everywhere you might want to go you would need to walk and nothing is close.
