Great way to get somewhere

By Julie D |

We were visiting friends outside of Bremerton for the weekend. We walked on the ferry to get over to Seattle and walked on it coming back. We only had to pay for one direction. We also took the ferry from Kingston to Lynnwood a few days later with our car. We had to pay only for the car and it was very cheap.

Both ferries were very clean and comfortable. We would definitely ride them again. So much cheaper than BC ferries.

incredibly day out, amazing views

By damifu |

Heading out of the city and into the San Juan Islands is worth the time in any weather, but much more enjoyable when it is sunny and warm. You might finally understand why the locals put up with the continual drizzle - natural beauty unlike anywhere else on the continent. If you are lucky you might even spot a pod of Orcas (late Spring - early Autumn). Walk-on, with bicycles or with a car - it all depends upon your time, destination and what you are after - but it is one of the most enjoyable things to do in the PNW.

Always An Amazing Experience

Call me what you will, but the idea of driving your car on a boat and being transported to a different experience is amazing.

Good Ferry Ride

By cbpilot |

We took the ferry from Anacortes to Friday Harbor. Seniors get tickets for half price..just show up with a driver's license to the ticket window and you're good. Our senior price was $8.50 each round trip walk on. If you're bringing a car be sure to get a reservation because the car line is always looong, and of course you pay more. Walk ons no problem, and just show up 30 minutes early they ask. Expect the ferry to run late. We spent a week on Friday Harbor, and noticed they usually run between on time and up to 30 minutes late. On time was rare. Plenty of room on board, and the view good from everywhere. There are rest rooms and a galley on board. Bring a warm dress option because it is cool and breezy on the water even in the summer.

Beware of Holiday LInes

By Shelley B |

Other than not knowing the wait would be two hours on Memorial Day weekend, the ferry ride was beautiful--on and off quickly.

Efficient and Cost-Effective

By monicamU705FX |

What a great way to get to Port Angeles via Bainbridge Island. The people working were great at navigating people who were new to the system. Left on time. Loved all the spaces of where to sit and the options to get food. The ride was part of the experience.

Horrible

By Jared K |

Terrible. Expect to wait multiple hours for a ferry that will arrive at least 20 minutes behind schedule. The lines are atrocious and the problem has been known about for at least 3 years. Traveling to the island is barely worth the time.

DELAYS

By Jessica X |

The ship is nice and process in terms of purchasing tickets, boarding etc. are fine. One thing to highlight - the ferry DELAYS, like a lot - on my day, I experienced 1 and 2 hours delays in the morning and afternoon respectively. This makes day trip from Seattle a VERY LONG Travel. I can't imagine people make arrangements cutting tight based on the ferry's scheduled times given the randomness of delay. Please allow yourself AMPLE time for travel.

Worst hospitality

By JCTRAVELMAN |

Worst hospitality during our wait on our way back from the island to the mainland. The guard on the way back at the 10pm ferry return. He was extremely rude. As a state ferry and paid service I felt that the attendant could of had better service and possibly needs additional training. Many locals and tourists use the service. The ferry itself was great but the attendant was unpleasant

Seattle - Bainbridge Ferry is Great!

By swoodruf |

My granddaughter and I took the ferry, Puyallup, over to Bainbridge Island. Getting tickets was a breeze, and everything was exactly on time. The trip took about 35 minutes, and it was very enjoyable. The ship itself is quite large. It felt like there were only a few of us on it. The price was right. My granddaughter was free, and me being a senior, I also got a great discount. The ticket to Bainbridge is round trip, and you don't need the ticket on the return trip. There is a nice little cafe on the ship as well as a souvenir shop. Very inexpensive way to get to the island.

The best $9.50 I spent!

By Ellen28 |

It feels weird writing a review for public transportation, but it was great. A friend told me to get out in the water and I’m so glad I did. The views, the fresh air - totally phenomenal. It was a clear day and I got a breathtaking view of Mt Rainier. I walked around Bainbridge on a Friday evening and it was really quiet although there were several food and drink options…but mostly sleepy. I had caught the ferry to try to see the sunset and then did a night return to see the city lights. I’d do this again and again. And I’d like to explore other islands too next time.

Still My Favorite Thing to Do in the Emerald City.

By Kittygal 🇺🇦 🌻 |

I first took the ferry while on a business trip one summer, years ago. I got up super early so I could take the ferry to and from Bainbridge Island. I was hooked.

I still take ferry trips every visot. A tiny ferry ornamrnt adorns my holiday tree. A print hangs in my home. And just this morning, I sat on the watetfront and watched the ferries glide across Puget Sound, like wedding cakes on the water.

Please keep doing the magic you do. 😺🚢

Best deal in Seattle for tourists!

By Patty A |

We took the Bainbridge Island ferry. Best deal in Seattle! Senior rates were $5 each! Nice, smooth ride, with the option to sit inside on padded benches with backs or go outside and enjoy the fresh air and take pictures. We did both. Snacks and drinks and restrooms available. When we got to Bainbridge, we took a short easy walk into the downtown area where there are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants. The ride back to Seattle is free- we walked right on. We didn't have to wait long for either ride. They have a time schedule posted. I THINK we got on at pier 54, right past the ferris wheel. There is a free waterfront ferry that will take you as far as the ferris wheel and pick you up and take you as far as the Space Needle and loop back to the waterfront.

Vacation

By Amanda Evans |

We rode the ferry over to Brainbridge island!! It was a 20 minute ride to get over there! It was a cute little town with shops and local restaurants! Super cheap tickets to get there and back to the main land!

We want to go to Victoria BC but it is a 3 hour ride to get there.

The ferry offers snacks and drinks for a decent price!

Just don’t bother wasting time and money

By Celeste K |

Extreme wait times expect multiple hour delays with no communication or expect a schedule that is a scam because it is never accurate. Rates are getting raised again and will continue to next summer , which if fine for tourists but negativity impacting people who live there or want the opportunity to visit family.

Right on time

By Don H |

We rode the state ferry system over to Bainbridge and back from Kingston. Both ferries left precisely on time and all went well. Grab your camera to get great pictures of the Seattle skyline. Also it is currently best to get to the ferry dock in Seattle traveling northbound due to construction.

THE Way to Travel Between Seattle and Bainbridge!

By The Autistic Traveler |

No trip to Seattle should be complete without a ride or two on the Washington State Ferries. They’re inexpensive, scenic, reliable, and a water experience unlike other ferries you might ride in other regions. I’ve taken the Bainbridge route multiple times so far, and it never gets old; the views of downtown Seattle, the thick evergreens of the Puget Sound islands hugging the shore, the occasional dolphin or two, and Mount Rainier on sunny days are all valid reasons to love these ferries.

Some tips: make sure you arrive plenty early to avoid rushing to the entry points when boarding begins. Remember, timeliness and efficiency is among the ferry system’s highest priorities. There’s no leeway for delayed departures in order to accommodate straggling passengers. Ferries run the same routes quite regularly throughout the day, though, even during COVID—so no real worry if you miss a ride.

Safety is always important to mention, but security is probably on the ferries, and I always feel incredibly safe from threats of any kind. That should be the least of your worries.

So don’t wait—book your ferry tickets NOW! It’s by far the best ferry network in the US!

Disapointed

By barbief417 |

It’s very aggravating that they are on their own schedule. If it says 820 I expect that I need to be on the boat and ready to go. We waited over 30 min on both sides. I would not recommend the ferry or Bainbridge wineries.

Coronavirus Transportation in Classic Style

By sexybaby7399 |

I went on the Washington State Ferries from Bremerton to Seattle on Monday August 31st to see my daughter in Seattle. Tables were blocked off to provide for social distancing and masks were required but it was great service with no delays and a beautiful day for a scenic ferry ride into Seattle! A great ride and it’s free into Seattle with a $4.50 return trip if you’re a senior and double that for adults. An hour ride and well worth it! Highly recommended!

Horrible

By MartyLima |

The Washington State Ferry System is a mess. Ferries are running 2 and a half to 3 hours late. They are basically holding people hostage in their cars waiting to catch a ferry.

30-40 minutes of dsconnecting from the world.

By dalessiopietro |

We didn't know that part of getting to Northern Washington included a ferry. While it was a bit expensive, it was a time saver. The lady who sold us our tickets could have been friendlier and not so automated and rigid. However, everyone else we encountered was polite, helpful and full of smiles.

Being able to leave our car, get up on the decks and see the views of Seattle, the surrounding areas and relax with the ocean breeze was an excellent reprieve from the demands of a road trip and was a welcome and unexpected surprise for our family.

Day trip to Bainbridge Island

By acme9394 |

Super Easy! I wanted to drive a car onto a ferry. I hadn't done it before and it was just one of those things that I had not done. I can check it off the list now.
I would be sure to try and come back to Seattle in the evening so that you can see the skyline.

Poor reservation system

By Andrea S |

The reservation system needs an upgrade. If you don’t book several months in advance from Anachortes to Friday Harbor, you have to go online at 7 a.m. 2 weeks prior to your sailing date to try booking once more spots are opened up. And if that doesn’t work , you have another chance 2 days prior again at 7 a.m. Very frustrating as we had no return trip booked and had to book a return trip from our campsite 2 days prior to leaving!

Clown Car Experience

By Zeus C |

Raging incompetence. They want you there an hour early. Our Orcas island return was 80 minutes late. No proactive communication. No call center help available. No onsite help available. A clown car posing as a business. We waited 140 minutes in line to get on the boat. Not to mention the trip to Orcas island was 40 minutes late. In summary we paid these people 150 dollars to spend FOUR HOURS in line. Locals say their lack of care is legendary.

Avoid if you are Visiting Seattle--Ferry is a Mess

By trueTraveler |

Poor customer service, great attention to not considering anyone or anything. Great place to work, if your looking to not work and draw a quick, unearned paycheck

Simple way to get around, and better with the App

By Richard S |

Getting around the Seattle area is much easier using the WSF ferry system. There are occasional operational delays but most of the time service is very efficient. We found clean, well maintained boats, comfortable accommodations, and very efficient and helpful crew members. Local friends gave us the most important tip: download the free WSF App on your phone, which gives up to date info on schedules, space available, and real time boat location. We had no problem getting on runs which were too late to reserve for.

Great trip

By GGX2 |

We had to go to Bainbridge Island for a wedding. Once we figured out how to get in line for the ferry it was great. Road construction on the Seattle side made it very difficult and confusing. Everyone was helpful and kind to us newbies riding the ferry. Great views of the sky line.

Wonderful views of Seattle.

By WestBromwichBaggie |

We went over to Bainbridge. The best value trip of our holiday. As seniors the cost was under $5 return for foot passengers. You get great views of Seattle and the high rise buildings, which looks stunning from the bay. Highly recommended.

Bad access for handicapped Colman dock

By Sunshine375091 |

Access for elevators is poor- handicapped access and travelers with luggage is very bad. The relocated elevators are bad with inability for rides. Poor design

I loved the ride.

By Maggie |

The only part I did not like was having to disembark. I could haver traveled back and forth all day.

Interesting and efficient

By John M |

We traveled to Breckenridge Island for a days activity. No issues on outbound or return trips. Seas were very calm and the boat was very well piloted

Really fun experience

By Ellen A |

The ferry was a little delayed but so worth the wait. I would recommend standing at the front to see the skyline on your way back to Seattle.

Employees need some help with how they treat customers

By Jean-Marie B |

Got us where we needed to be. The few workers the family had to interact with shared a bitter attitude which blew, felt guilty for being a ferry rider. Where I work we are short staffed also and deal with rude customers because of it but it never made me treat all people poorly. Maybe the people here need to get paid more? Please do what you need to make them happy.

Clean and efficient

By dreamspeaker |

What a great and efficient operation this is! We took the Bainbridge Island ferry from Seattle on our way to the Olympic peninsula. I would take this when in Seattle for the views alone, to be honest. It offered great views of the skyline, cruise ships in port, and Mount Rainier on a clear day. The ship is quite large and fits a ton of passengers and cars, but even while full didn't feel crowded. It was clean, the bathrooms were not just "heads" like on other ships, but full bathrooms with stalls, and there was a cafe where people were picking up food. For a half hour ride across the sound, I thought it was a great experience!

Efficient transportation

By hbhakh |

The Ferries are an efficient and inexpensive way to get to/from Seattle and some of the islands in the Puget Sound. We went on foot so the fare was $10pp with no cost to return. The ferries have plenty of seating and some outdoor areas. There's also a snack bar.

Best Ferries

By barbara92694 |

The Washington State Ferries are the best I’ve experienced. Easy to use, clean, on-time, friendly staff. Year-round, rain or shine. Reliable!

Great Ride!

By Michael S |

Great views and probably the least expensive way to get on the water. We went to Bainbridge Island. There is not a lot there and on Tuesdays, as we learned, many of the shops and restaurants are closed. But the ferry rides and the views made it worthwhile.

Excellent Transportation

By Corinna H |

Although the Ferry system is not really a tourist type of thing, but rather a necessity for some locals. That being said we loved it! We visited Vashon and Bainbridge Islands. We loved using the ferry system to get there and HIGHLY recommend visiting Bainbridge!

I always wanted to do this

By Hawaiian Canuck |

When you think of Seattle, Washington State Ferries are a must thing to do when you visit because you get to experience the city from a different perspective. It’s a more parred down service than the BC Ferries system I use up in Vancouver, but it’s reliable and a local staple. You don’t get the fancy restaurants or gift shops but it’s got seating, lots of space and is reasonably priced with great views.

My favourite route is the Bainbridge run. Take it on a dry day and enjoy.

Great, Peaceful Experience

By JCW703 |

We took the ferry from Seattle to Bremerton and back and were very happy with the experience. I get very seasick and had zero issues on either trip- very smooth. The ferry was spacious and I was able to access the outside, both in the front and rear of the ship.

Amazing and Wonderful experience there. The Washington State Ferries was very beautiful and neat. We enjoyed so much.

Easy & Comfortable for DIY Tour of the Sound

By KarenThinksSo |

The Seattle-Bainbridge ferry was timely, comfortable, and the views were great! The facilities at Pier 52 were also nice and modern.

I like big boats and I cannot lie

We went to Bainbridge in 2018. It was a ferry, it was was expected for a ferry. The rest of this is padding

Vashon - Faunterloy: unreliable and bad service

By WN |

Terrible and highly unreliable ferry service - especially from Fauntleroy to Vashon and Southworth - frequently late and skipping boats.
Ask for refunds!

Economy bay cruise...

By Kevin V |

Excellent cheap way of observing Seattle cityscape and Bainbridge... We did this as was a glorious day and simply went to Bainbridge had a coffee and returned to Seattle...

Great trip over to Bainbridge Island

By VArelatives |

Quick, clean, reasonably priced. Leaves on the dot so don’t dawdle if you are trying to catch a particular ferry.

Take A Ferry

By stevehh2525 |

We took the Washington State Ferry from Seattle to Bainbridge Island - a 35 to 40 min. voyage. Great views of the city of course and Mt. Rainer on a clear day. Fast, efficient journey. We enjoyed walking the town on the island and EH wine tasting. Returned later on the same day.

Be Warned!

By HiWaGal |

Unreliable, late, and very costly. Be warned, this system has real issues that can impact your trip timing and cost.

We went out from Anacortes to Friday Harbor for a family event on a Friday with reservations to return on Saturday evening at 6:30pm. Due to lack of crew they canceled our reservation departure home and we were notified at 3pm. We then changed gears and planned to take the last ferry back at 10pm and go on as first come first served. A couple hours later we found out that they canceled the 10pm as well which meant we were stranded and without room reservations for the night. Everything was completely booked up by then and we ended up paying almost $600 for a room.

There was a lot more detail than provided here but in general, the WA Ferry system is broken as this is not the first time we’ve heard of similar situations. They constantly cancel routes due to staffing more than weather. So sad because it wasn’t like this until recent.

Sadly, it will be a very long time before I visit any of the islands or anywhere requiring a ferry ride in this state.

almost like a mini cruise

By Jarjar20 |

(*please take note: I did not mean for title to refer to a luxury cruise)

We took the ferry from Seattle to Bainbridge Island, and the trip was so much fun! Seats were comfortable, there was hot food available (one could get clam chowder and the famous Beecher's mac and cheese from the caf), and the views were spectacular! The boat is very punctual, too.

Tina is amazing

By Derek V |

Such a great experience and Tina in the gally made my day. Such a kind and welcoming person. If you take this to Bainbridge say hello to Tina!

Stunning

By Megan |

I could honestly spend hours in this place… It is so unusual and visually stunning. Situated right at the bottom of the space needle, you can purchase tickets together if you want to take an elevator ride up or just for the glass museum. This is a “must see” in Seattle.

Poor customer service for paying customers

By Leah Roberts |

The ferry reduced down to one ferry and then refused paying customers the ability to use the bathroom because they were “at capacity”. I had a ticket I had paid for and they refused me the ability to use the restroom. I have taken the ferry many times but it seems crazy they wouldn’t let paying customers use the PUBLIC restrooms!! Get it together. This is ridiculous.

Always on my Go-To List

By Kittygal 🇺🇦 🌻 |

I've been visiting Seattle for decades and still take a ride on the ferry every trip. There's just something about crossing the water and enjoying the view. It's timeless.

The ferries transport Seattle's legion of sports fan to games, as well as commuters and visitors. The new ferry port building construction is well underway, with an opening projected for 2023.

Even a long range glimpse of the 'wedding cakes' crossing the Sound from up at Queen Anne is one of the sights of Seattle I continue to love.

Two Ferries in Two Days; Like Day and Night

By urbanguy |

First of all, the ferry rides themselves are a lot of fun. And, it's quite an experience to watch "them" (the workers) load and unload a ferry.

The first day we took the Edmonds to Kingston ferry. Tons of signs on the road leading up to the ferry dock and loading area. 5 stars

The next day was the Bainbridge Island Ferry. We knew the general area of where the ferries were (actually had the physical address, but that didn't help). But, we must have driven around downtown for about 20 minutes. This was not fun and no easy feat to just go around and around looking for where the ferries line up. The construction in this area made for a mess. Luckily, we spotted a couple of cars turning in at a gap in the construction and followed them Got there. 1 star

Great way to see the Sound

By anleemills |

We took a ferry over to Bainbridge Island to explore. I love the ferries and it is a great way to save tome and see the Sound.

A Gratitude.

By John D |

To the Washington state Seattle ferry employee. Thank you so much Sir. Wish there’s more people like you in this earth. Such a great person

Travel like a local!

By Cheryl S |

The Washington State Ferries are an important part of travel in this state. In addition, the trips are an adventure, beautiful, sometime wonderfully surprising (pod of Orcas!) and relaxing (great way to commute).

Fair Fairy

By anjbee |

We live near from here. Far. I can't say I've ever even been on a ferry. Especially one this large. Saturday lines are loonngg. Get there early to go to Bainbridge island. We waited about an hour. There schedule is a little off. We departed 30 minutes late. The weather was cloudy, of course. So, the ride wasn't as scenic. Oh! Go to the restroom in the market! The outhouses here are disgusting

WA Ferry horrible schedule

By Bryan B |

The ferry captain should really learn the concept of a “Schedule”!
A two hour late sailing is not a schedule issue, it is due to a inept Captain

Our Ride To Orcas Island

By Chris K |

We have been taking these ferries for years. The people are so friendly. You can grab a bite on board if you want. We usually just sit and watch the islands go by or read. Sometimes there is a school group on board. That can be noisy but it is fun to watch.

Transportation and Attraction - Awesome Experience

By Grover R |

In our journey across the state of Washington we had the chance to take the ferry from Kingston to Edmonds with our rental car. Not only was this a great way to travel, cutting both miles and hours from our trip, it was a very enjoyable activity. I will admit at first going in the car line was a little scary, but they make it easy where you pay for the car, $22.00, and follow the car ahead of you. You will see a picture of the car line they put you in.

Once your car is parked on the ferry you can get out and go use the restroom, get something to eat and drink and sit on the top deck for the crossing. The weather was absolutely beautiful, and we could see the skyscrapers of Seattle framed by Mount Rainier. You also got great views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains. As the ferry nears Edmonds, the other side, you return to your car and follow the car ahead out, real easy. It was a great way to travel and to enjoy time on the water.

Horrible

By Ky G |

Horrible service, always late, crew sucks, people suck. Never would take it again. The workers are all very trashy. Food sucks, vending machines got nothing but trash goods. 0/5 stars I DONT RECOMMEND

Pike Place Market AND a ferry ride through the Puget Sound Islands are "must do"

By r a |

Spectacular scenery throughout the Puget Sound. You don't want to miss a ride on the ferry through the islands.

Water taxi is a bargain & easy!

By dkg |

Great view and easy 15 minutes to W Seattle peninsula. Nice harbor views and park and Salty's restaurant at the end of the water taxi ride. Easy self-serve dispenser at both ends of the taxi ride. A $5 treat.

Great ride to Bainbridge Island

By KJShay |

This is the best bargain in Seattle. $9 to walk on at Pier 52 and ride the ferry to Bainbridge Island. On a clear day, mostly in the summer, you can see Mount Rainier and other mountains. I think I might have seen Mount Baker to the North. The views of downtown Seattle are nice as well.

Go during non rush hour times such as late morning. It does get crowded at rush hour.
Bainbridge has a good art museum and interesting historical museum. Also restaurants, shops etc. you can walk to from the ferry, then ride back free.

Friday Harbor Visit

By Laurie B |

The Washington State ferries system is financially a mess. It cost me nearly $200 to tow my 18' travel trailer with GMC SUV. Everything about the ferries is expensive and a monopoly, even the concessions with marginally palatable food are expensive. On positive notes: the ships are clean, stocked effeciently, and the trip itself is enjoyable, with beautiful scenery all around.

Worth the trip

By Neitlich |

Our kids live on Bainbridge so the ferry is a standard and fun part f the trip. As seniors, the round trip is under $5/pps. No Wifi but lots of plugs. Don't rush to get on if you're a walk-on passenger. There is PLENTY of room. If you're driving, check the app re: availability. Usually takes 200+ cars but at peak times you may want to come early. Nice snack bar serving a good variety. Dock is walking distance to town.

Ferry system is a great way to get around

By LPLoveToTravel |

Love taking ferries. We took the ferry to Vashon Island. It was all very organized. Just seems to be quite expensive and we heard prices will be going up.

What a way to go!

By momonine |

We traveled by the Bremerton Ferry to visit family in Port Orchard. It was a pleasant and beautiful trip. We easily boarded after purchasing our senior tickets and found excellent seats right at the front of the ferry in order to view the beautiful coastlines.

City escape

By jessicakutcher |

Taking the ferry to Bainbridge Island is not only worth the ride because of the city view, it is also a comfortable way over to the island an back.

Inexpensive way to visit Bainbridge Island

By travellocally |

We took an early ferry across to Bainbridge Island to visit for a bit. We walked from our hotel (State Hotel) and walked onto the ferry. It was under $10 each round trip.

It's a great way to see the harbor and Bainbridge, and we'd recommend it to anyone visiting.

Great crossing

By Gardengel-IoW |

Nice trip out on the ferry as a foot passenger, but also a car ferry, so takes a while to load. All very easy. Lots of seating in and out. Great view of Seattle skyline from ferry.
Our crossing was to Bainbridge Island. You can walk into Winslow with no problem. A few shops and cafes to explore and an art museum with its own café. If you want an expedition, Bloedel Reserve is right at the other end of the Island. Can get there by car or by 10 minute bus and 20 minute walk at the end but must book a slot for arrival (fee).
It would be worth doing the trip on a nice day as a foot passenger just for the view

Low priced boat ride to Bainbridge Island

By Tracy T |

A must do if you are looking for good views and are on a budget. I took the ferry round trip from Seattle to Bainbridge Island and it was $8 total. There is an outdoor area (bring your jacket!! It’s very windy) and a very large indoor seating area. I believe I saw somewhere that the capacity was around 2000 people? I was stunned at how big the ferry is. Put your car on and explore Bainbridge. Great views of mountains, Mt Rainer and Seattle skyline.

Held hostage by the disqualified ferry system

By Robert C |

Again lack of crew 5/29 6pm sailing to Lopez Friday harbor you planning sucks again it's an all day wait on your part because you do not be qualified to make the run to Friday harbor very unhappy

Ferries as a tourist site I guess so...

By Sammy West |

Ferries have always been a tool to get somewhere for me rather than a tourist draw. However, for those people who are either 1) from non-aquatic places like Kansas (went to undergrad there - go Jayhawks!) or 2) looking to be out on the water for a bargain price, the ferries can't be beat.

SEATTLE: these are the mega ferries that most people think of when asked about ferries. There are multiple decks and the views of downtown Seattle can't be beat as you pull into Colman Dock from Bainbridge or Bremerton. The galley food is passable, but you are riding for the views. There are outside viewing areas, inside seating with great views, and some great 3-D maps of Puget Sound. Go up to the top deck or the "front" of the ferry for the best views. Do this ferry on foot if you are just in Seattle - no need to have a car.

EDMONDS/KINGSTON: If you are a diver, there is a great underwater dive park directly north of the ferry dock - large groupers and misc. fun fish. Edmonds is a great little town to kill some time in on your way to the Olympic Peninsula. The ferries themselves are slightly smaller than the Seattle routes, but are still large enough that anyone who is susceptible to roll of the boat won't notice much movement. I've seen everything from eagles and loons to orcas on this ferry route.

SMALLER FERRY ROUTES (Vashon, Whidbey, San Juans, etc.) These ferries are more fun to ride because they are smaller and often in the "antique" category! The Keystone ferry out of Port Townsend is a great one - you can feel the tide and the swell. Be sure to check about waits in the summertime/holidays and suspensions in service for extremely high/low tides or weather. The best thing about these ferries is the spectacular view of Washington outside of Seattle - gorgeous scenery. NOTE: If you want to do a small ferry, but are without a car, take the Rapid Ride "C" bus from downtown Seattle to Fauntleroy Dock in West Seattle. You can ride the ferry to Vashon Island - a rural oasis with some great restaurants only a few minutes away from Seattle.

OTHER FERRIES WORTH CONSIDERING: If you are touring the Olympic Peninsula, consider a side trip to Victoria, Canada, on the ferry from Port Angeles. The Coho has run between PA and Victoria for many years and does a couple of trips per day across the Straits of Juan de Fuca. You can make a day trip of it, leaving your car in downtown PA parking lots by the ferry dock, or take your car if you wish (I'll make sure to post some other reviews of Victoria on Trip Advisor - it's an incredibly beautiful city and worth several days in itself, not to mention Vancouver Island where it is located).

A plug for using the ferries to explore the Olympic Peninsula - you need a car, but Olympic National Park with incredibly gorgeous Lake Crescent and the Hoh Rainforest is well worth the effort. Add in often deserted ocean beaches and natural hot springs and you have a great trip!

Bad

Please get better employees. I hate trying to ride the ferry because the employees and the scheduling are the worst

Great day

Great operation, great results

By SuperDave |

I enjoy watching an efficient operation in progress, and the Coupeville/Port Townsend ferry was such an event. It arrived in Coupeville 10 minutes late (?), unloaded quickly and loaded quickly, and departed 10 minutes late (no surprise there). Crossing was smooth, and the Port Townsend disembarkation was quick. Everything that a passenger wants to experience from such a company. Congratulations!

Beautiful views!

Spectacular views on the Bainbridge ferry on October 4. Comfortable ride. Took the ferry around sunset and it was beautiful. Mt. Rainier was out and in it’s full glory!

Ferry Ride to Bainbridge Island

Nice trip both back and forth to Bainbridge Island. Had no problems getting on or off. Nice amenities. Regular scheduling, short wait times depending on how early you get in line. Would love to ferry to other locations next time I'm visiting.

Such a stress free way to go to travel. Not only is it simple transportation, it’s also a scenic view of Seattle. Loved being able to go outside and plenty of room inside. It can be very wind and cold, so come prepared!

A pretty journey.

By Ann H |

It was a lovely journey through the islands and along the coast. It was convenient to get to on the Canadian side and a nice drive through Annacourtes.

Easy and beautiful view

By CorV |

They make it very easy. Buy tickets on line and arrive at port. Signed well so you know where to go! Beautiful view of Seattle and Mt rainier!

Enjoy the views

By karkeys0326 |

A great way to see Seattle's skyline, whales swimming by, or some of the neighboring islands. Just walk on, enjoy the ride, go explore and hop a ferry back.

Lines can be long in the summer.

Enjoyable way to get to the San Juan Islands

By Cynthia12342015 |

We travelled to several of the islands and used the ferry 3 times. It was always on time and was a fun excursion as well. The reservation system is a must and do it as early as possible - we had to be on the "waiting list" for one ferry and we had no problem getting on but had to arrive 1 1/2 hours prior to departure to get on rhe ferry - not much to do around the ferry terminals.

Ferry from Seattle to Bainbridge

By John Doe |

Ferry line is a complicated maze and workers are absolutely astounding. The women at the ticket window directed us to the wrong lane and as a result we missed the ferry. Other workers standing nearby made no attempt to tell us we had gone into the wrong lane. Proper training and communication are needed because this behavior is honestly discouraging.

Efficent and timely

By Gary T |

We did a day trip to Bainbridge Island using the Ferry and it was one of the highlights of our trip. We left and returned on time and during the time between we browsed the shops of quaint Bainbridge and had a great lunch.

Again and again

By Connor F |

The amount of unannounced cancellations and stranding people is unacceptable. Pay your staff, provide the service, stop making ferries Washington’s last priority. On my second $250+ uber right now because of another unannounced Friday night cancellation. Incredibly easy to fix just no one cares about anything these days but corporate greed.

Easy even for visitors! Beautiful ride to Bremerton!

By WIfamilyof7 |

Visiting Seattle for work and wanted to head over to Bremerton for a few hours and tour the USS Turner Joy (awesome by the way). Finding the pier and ticket windows is easier than I thought. Just walk down Alaskan Way from the Pike Place Market area, past the Pier 56 building, the Argosy harbor cruises area, Pier 55 building with the Red Robin and the Pier 54 building (the Pier # is in huge text on the front of the buildings) until you get to the ferry terminal building. It's a bit longer walk than you might think so leave yourself a little time. Once you get there just go up the stairs (follow the signs) and there's a ticket office right there. Purchasing one ticket gets you there and back (they don't even check your tickets when you get back on from Bremerton or Bainbridge. The ferry is really large and smooth with bathrooms and food options. The ride is a solid hour but the return trip gives you such a cool view of the Seattle skyline. Highly recommended just to do it.

Bainbridge Island

By Mercy A |

We were looking for something to do while in Seattle. Great ride. Everything was easy to do. Went to the gate window, asked for s recommendation and purchased the tickets. They sail almost every hour. Smooth and quick! We loved our time at the island and boarded without a hitch. Highly recommend for a quick getaway!!!

Very efficient

By JefeUno |

Taking ferry or driving around bottom of sound were our choices. Glad we chose ferry and glad we did. Efficient, relaxing trip with beautiful view of city and Mt Ranier. Only way to go!

Loved our trip to Bainbridge Island. Really good deal. Great ride.
It was pouring rain in Seattle & dry on Bainbridge...an awesome day!

Please don't leave your disabled passengers behind!

By Jade M |

Several times they have drawn the bridge when I am visibly making my way down the plank well before the two minute mark. As a disabled passengers who uses mobility aids and needs to link up with medical transportation, this can end up costing me a pretty penny. I am a cancer, dialysis and pain management patient who goes to Seattle once to twice a week for these reasons. It's not always possible for me to get there very early. If you see another passenger who is disabled please try to make sure they make their trip by giving staff a heads up. Other than this the staff is decent and miss the food. The only problem I have had with the staff, ever, is a few grumpy old ladies who work here, which I understand all too well 😭😂

Great Way to Get Around

By Nina C |

We used there ferry to travel to Bainbridge Island and the experience was budget friendly and efficiently run. The ride itself was a calm one and we chose to stay in our cars due to the winds one would experience getting to a passenger area after the ferry has started to move. Highly recommend this service.

Efficient service and way to see the Seattle Skyline less expensively

By Ian T |

We used this ferry service for a visit to Bainbridge Island and as a much cheaper alternative to view the Seattle skyline than the tourist tours that give you the same view and depart from near the big wheel. The ferries are large, comfortable and spacious affording good views from the open top deck. This ferry option allows a visit to Bainbridge Island, taking in a walkabout and lunch before returning on the regular ferry.

Trip to Bainbridge island is a delight.

By Expedition793596 |

The ferry ride alone is worth the price. I think it was about $4.50 for seniors and $9 for adults. It is essentially a round trip ticket since the trip from Bainbridge to Seattle is free for "walk-ons"

Remarkably different from the BC ferries

By metaungulate |

It is remarkable how different this WA state ferry is from the BC ferries operating just a few miles away. The Chelan which does the Sidney/Anacortes route is not much older than the BC "Queen of" ships but it looks and feels ancient. The decor is 1980 Elementary School. Under power the whole ship shudders and shakes. Each seat is given a complimentary massage buzz which grows tiresome during a three hour crossing. This ship seems much slower than the BC type and with the island stop it takes almost twice as long.

The armchairs are as narrow as airline economy seats but the banquette seating by the windows with and without tables is far preferable to the universal BC torture chairs which feel like you are caught halfway through a situp. However they do encourage lie-down sleepers and the loud snores they generate.

Fortunately, I travelled on a November day when there were only a few dozen passengers as I am sure it could be rather uncomfortable in a crowd.

The difference in food service is considerable as the modern, efficient cafeteria model in BC is replaced by a surprisingly dark little galley which would be at home in any dingy rural independent gas station. Unfortunately, the prices are just as steep as in the BC ships for significantly less selection and quality. On the good side, the staff is remarkably friendly and relaxed and that makes for a pleasant purchase.

All in all, as much as I have criticized the BC ferries, the WA ones are a notch below in just about every aspect of the trip.

4 adults $80.40 to use

By kjps35 |

Very expensive. $60 for 4 people to go to Bainbridge Island and $20.40 to return! There was construction in the area so you had to wait in a location away from the ferry. The wait was in excess of 2 hours at 3:00 p.m. (before work lets out).

Picture taking of Seattle in the evening was not allowed.

Excellent timely service during pandemic

By Alwxa |

Took the ferry four times in two days to Bainbridge Island. It was a beautiful view. Everyone wore masks and I feel safe. If you do not feel see if you can opt to stay in your car.

Fun way to get to the shopping and dining on Bainbridge Island.

By BandwagonPa |

A fun way to get to the shops and restaurants on Bainbridge Island. Despite the cold and rain in November we had a good trip.

An unexpected delight! So glad we got to experience the ferry!

By JD C |

This was an incredible adventure for us. We were in Seattle planning to take the congested I-5 to Tacoma and then up along Hwy 101 to get to Port Angeles. In good traffic, the estimated driving time was 2 hours and 45 minutes. We had already experienced the stress of driving in the Seattle area and had never taken the ferry. From our hotel in Seattle, we drove to the Washington State Ferry terminal, took the ferry to Bainbridge Island, and then on to Port Angeles. The ferry was supposed to depart at 9 am... and by 9:15 am, we were wondering why the ferry wasn't moving. We got out of the car, walked to the bow, and discovered we were already half-way across Puget Sound!!! It was amazing! and stress-free!!! Cost for the car and two seniors was $22.60. We felt we gained an extra 1h 30m of free time because of the ferry. The ferry ride was the highlight of our PNW trip.

Washington State Ferry to Bremerton. A great trip and a bargain. Go for Lunch

By rubyredvette |

A great Trip and Staff is great. John (E Group) spent time with Ferry Riders and explained the Island that we were going to . He made the trip over a real delight, sadly he was not on the return trip.

As noted by other Reviews, Construction in Seattle is a bit daunting and looks overdue for completion, but small Blip.

We took Ferry to Bremerton , had lunch at Anthonys at Sinclair Inlet, walked around the island, and returned . A relative suggested the Ferry Ride and we agree that it is a real bargain.

Enjoyable trip

By Mustang X |

We took the ferry to Bainbridge. It was fun to stand outdoors in the fresh air and see Seattle from the water. Definitely worth the $10 fare. Not much in Bainbridge, just pricey restaurants and small stores. Typical tourist town. Getting there on the ferry was the highlight of the day.

Harbor Tour

By srespass |

We took a harbor tour, and everything was awesome. The tour guide explained multiply thing to us about the shoreline attractions and building. Seattle is very nice from the bay - a most do trip if it is your first time.

A Must do

By Carmen R |

My husband and I did a ferry ride to Bainbridge just before sunset when you could still see the Puget Sound. Due to time constraints we weren’t able to take a ferry ride during the day but the ferry ride at night did not disappoint. The views of the skyline at night are incredible. The ferry ride itself was smooth sailing. We plan on returning to Seattle and when we do we will definitely be doing a day trip. The price for the both of us was only $18 round trip I highly recommend to anyone wanting to see the Puget Sound to do it by way of ferry.

Hot day hot temper

By gfm1118 |

We decided to take a trip on the ferry to Bainbridge Island on June 27th 2021. It was incredibly hot and we were on our first visit to Seattle. We hadn’t tried the ferry and thought it would be a great ride and an opportunity to beat the heat without heading for our hotel. Our first stop was to get a ticket and the agent that was selling it to us was the most arrogant, unfriendly service person we have met in our travels. Not knowing how the ferry worked, I tried to ask a couple of questions and was met with a nasty, short and extremely cold attitude. The woman was the agent in the third booth counting from the left. And no, there was no one behind me and she was nasty from the first question. We’ve seen a very warm attitude from most of the service people we’ve met in Seattle. This woman should retire. The ferry ride was very nice, clean and a wonderful escape from the heat. Even the heat generated by the nasty agent. Take the ride. Go to booth 1.

Super cool trip

By LacrosseTraveller |

We lucked out and had a beautiful day to enjoy the ferry ride to Bainbridge Island. Lots of places to sit and stand to enjoy beautiful views of city skyline and even Mt. Rainer. All in all maybe our favorite memory of 3 day trip to Seattle.

Horrible WA State Ferry Service

By Allen W |

Terrible. If I could leave zero stars I would. I understand there’s a labor shortage, and yes. We’re emerging from covid, but for being the largest ferry service in the U.S., you guys need to get it together. Ferry service cancelled and delayed both ways via Anacortes to Orcas and then Friday Harbor to Anacortes. Literally a five hour wait. How about, do an environmental impact study and consider getting a few more boats on here. Increased rates to ride the ferry boat and crap service. Also, the whole reservation system - it’s a double standard. If we’re late for the reservation, people automatically go to stand-by list. If you’re boat is late, there’s no accountability and what’s worse, poor poor communication. So very disappointed with this service.

Must Do

By JohnT |

The Seattle system is amazingly convenient, on time and fun. We have been on the Ferry as walkers and as drivers.
We have family on two of the islands and actually enjoy the rush to the terminal to be on time.
This is a must do Seattle experience especially on a clear day.

Make the trip

By IrishRover |

If you are looking for a way to explore Bainbridge Island and get some awesome shots of the city. Plan on using the frrry system. It is about 50 min out or back and a cool city to hang out in but the views alone are worth it

Cheap, wonderful way to tour

By Luv2TravelFarNWide |

The ferries are large, clean, and walk-on friendly -- and CHEAP. We paid $4.50 pp (senior rate) for a round trip to Bainbridge Island. No reservations required. No line at the ticket counter. And the ferry was no where near even 20% capacity so you never had to be near anyone (inside or out).

And the ferries were VERY punctual. They run each way on kind of an hourly basis, so you can go over when you want, have lunch, walk around, and take a convenient ferry back. It was perfect.

In fact, we enjoyed our experience so much we're looking at other places to go by ferry -- maybe Bremerton?

The Washington State Ferry website is extremely helpful and accurate. The staff on the ferry and at the terminals were friendly and helpful.

Lovely ferry ride to Bremerton

By Joanna S |

We took the hour long ferry to Bremerton. The ride was smooth and very comfortable. This is a big deal for a person like me who is prone to sea sickness. Was surprised to find yummy food on sale on board as well. The ferry ticket only cost US$8.25 to get you to Bremerton and back to Seattle.

Nice ride in clean boat

By groupleader45212 |

The ferries are practicing social distancing in seating and passenger safety.
Very few travelers and no problem finding an empty seat.
Very inexpensive at $4.5 round trip for seniors and clean public areas.

Smooth sailing

By LORRE J |

My wife and I needed to go to Port Angeles so we decided to take the Bainbridge Island ferry from Seattle. The cost was minimal and it was more enjoyable than driving around and lots quicker.
There is a quick serve restaurant onboard and coffee service.
We rode on the Wenatchee.

Lots of room - One way ticket

By Gubes |

We enjoyed the 35 minute ferry ride from Seattle to Bainbridge Island. Tons of room to hang out and see the views. The fee covered our car & driver plus a passenger fee. When we came back we had to pay $16.40 for car & driver again. Round trip for the two of us was $41.85. Ouch! Restrooms were in good condition.

So much fun! Great way to travel!

By SteelCity13 |

Fun, great way to get around the area. We love riding the ferry and now my daughter does too. Easy to get to, runs all the time, safe and fun way to see more of the city and area as you travel.

Relaxing and reliable.

By Lancer |

Great way to travel off-land. I enjoy al the ferry rides I've taken in WA State. I enjoy the foot ferries more because the wait isn't as long as the car ferries.

Uneventful ferry ride

By Dietmar H |

Latest ferry trip was uneventful: leave on time, arrive on time.......... which makes uneventful a good thing. Ferry was great, navigating to and from the ferry on the Seattle side is a nightmare. Signage is terrible and extremely confusing.

Bainbridge island ferrt

By Mary B |

Lovely trip from Seattle to Bainbridge on a clear beautiful sunny day.

The ferries run quite on time so you don’t need to be there more than 20 minutes before there’s quite a Lotta room on the ferry there’s also cars allowed as well

One thing there’s really no nice amenities I’m just a vending machine but they told me the facility is relatively new and within a year will have some little coffee snack places

And the walk to get to the ferry is a little bit under construction so it’s a long walkway but it was great because it was all flat and no hills and stairs. Great if I hv luggage!

The entrance was a little hidden because there was a lot of construction going on downtown Seattle

Food on the ferry is God awful and expensive for what you get. There were one or two salads which looked OK but the rest of the food look like junk if you’re into fast food you probably b ok with it

Clam chowder was horrendous it just had thickened milk with two tiny pieces of celery in it and a couple little not even a tablespoon of clams in it and It was over $8 . My advice is bring your own food maybe get a beverage but that’s about it.

Ferry terminal in Bainbridge is not fancy you don’t have to pay a fare coming back on the ferry so you just walk on very nice and clean

Busses r up by the ferry and there’s a little museum right nearby that’s good

It was a lovely ride and it was a beautiful day all the staff was professional and very friendly as well

Whidbey Island Ferry

By PattyB |

Took ferry from Mukliteo and enjoyed a day on the island. WE didn't know what to do, not big agenda, but learned the ferry to get back sometimes had a 90 minute wait. We didn't do much, visited Langley and went to Penn Cove Taproom, which had excellent beer and an awesome food truck. Had we more time we'd have planned better and gone to Deception Pass

Ferry Fun and a Great View!

By Karen C |

My friend and I found ourselves with some time to kill after the American Society of Echocardiography’s 2022 Scientific Session that were held in Seattle ended, so on Tuesday, after a lovely breakfast at Bacco’s, we decided we wanted to enjoy a view of the city from the water. The WSF from Seattle to Bainbridge Island offered a easy and inexpensive option for a quick jaunt across the sound and back before our flight. The purchase process was easy, embarking and disembarking was a breeze, the ferry was well kept up and clean with great decks for enjoying the view and meeting nice people (including a handsome stranger who we later saw at the airport, as well - pity I only got his first name and not his phone number…but I digress). Anyway, looking for a fun little no frills cruise? I recommend the ferry from Seattle to Bainbridge.

Great way around

By John379 |

Went from Seattle to Bainbridge Island and back. The place is well run, the only real issue is people who don't listen and don't go back to their cars at the right time. On each trip there were a couple, luckily it didn't cause us any delays. But nice views and a great way to get around.

Total Waste of Time

By Monica S |

Bought tickets online in advance, arrived 45 min before departure time, waited, only to be told it’s full, oh well, it is good for 90 days. You have to either wait forever or take your chances and hope to get on. Cars turning around and people upset. They need a better system.

Comfortable, Spacious, Safe

By Nena L |

My husband and I took a ferry from Seattle to Bainbridge and back and it was a smooth, comfortable experience. There are plenty of comfortable seats inside the ferry and there are also seats outdoors to enjoy the fresh air. You get gorgeous views whether you're inside or outside.

All smooth sailing

By Kyle S |

We boarded our ferry at 830am and quickly departed right at 9am. We were headed to Bainbridge island for the day. The ferry was clean and the winds were calm. An easy 30 minute ride with beautiful views of the Puget Sound and downtown Seattle.

Just go! It will be fun!

By lifeisverygood2 |

My husband had never been on a ferry and I'm so glad he can now say he's been a traveler aboard a ferry. We were on several ferries while in the Seattle area and we had so much fun! It's a great way to cut off some drive time from point A to point B.

The crew are so proficient. We were relaxed and enjoyed each of our ferry travels.

It's been years since I was on a ferry and I couldn't remember what to expect. The Washington State ferry system is a breeze to figure out. And it's not expensive, either.

If you're driving your vehicle aboard you'll want to walk up to the passenger area after you park. There are a lot of ways you can watch the ferry, either from inside or outside. There are table areas where you can eat while the ferry is moving. Or you can sit in the comfortable sitting areas.

Yes, you can purchase food or bring your own with you. The bathrooms are very clean.

The most well coordinated Ferry service!

By mbenati |

I traverse the world to visit my companies clients and many times have to rely on public transportation and Ferry services.

The Washington Ferry system is extremely well organized, punctual and a way to thousands of people to commute and explore our great State!.

By Maureen G |

This was a relaxing tour of the city and I learned a lot about the history and commerce of the city. I loved the coast line and view

Clinton to Mukilteo

By RxDive |

Toured Whidbey by rental car and wound up at the south end. Drive all the way back? No. Took the ferry from Clinton to Mukilteo for a 17 min crossing to the mainland. Enough time to get out of the car and go to the snack bar. Very nice experience overall.

Great views of the city

By JessieAFJ |

State ferry trip is a must do in Seattle whether you actually visit an island or just hop back on (only $8 to Bainbridge). Brave the winds and stay outside on the upper deck, view coming back into the city is wonderful. My favourite part of my visit.

Ferries clean, plenty space and comfortable. Food available too.

Brilliant

By mike2016852 |

Use the ferry for a trip over to Bainbridge Island. Other routes are available. Ferries reliable and prices great value.

Great experience

By SunnyOnTheGo |

Had a great experience on both times we took the ferry (there and back) From Edmonds to Kington. The crew members we met and interacted with were friendly. The facilities were clean.

A MUST if for nothing else, the VIEWS!

By Ann G |

After watching the ferry traverse the Bay day and night from our condo balcony, we booked a trip to Bainbridge Island! Easy on and off and SUCH SPECTACULAR VIEWS of Seattle and Mt Ranier! The island is full of little towns to explore and with great local options for breakfast and lunch.... make a day of it!

Worth the price, beautiful view!!!

By 31TravelingKat |

The price was kinda high especially for us. We paid a total of $52 (it’s 4.50 for anyone under 18) and I think around $9.05 for adults. Once you are over to the town/island, you have to pay $20.40 to come back onto the boat. Once you pay, you wait in line for a while. If you want drinks, you have to get off the car and walk up a building to overpriced vending machines. But once you move the car onto the boat, you park and get off. That’s when the fun begins. The ferry has 4 levels. Coffee and vending machines were on the top levels. And the view was magnificent. You can walk around it all and it’s great for pictures. There’s the view of the whole city as you go away into the sea. We loved it. It was worth the price but you won’t realize that until you’re up there. When it’s time to get back into the cars to move them, the captain rings the bell. So you do have time to run down.

Not just transportation...

By MalCOCQ |

I have to say that I think I enjoyed the ferry ride over to Bainbridge Island as much as visiting the island itself The ferry was easy to use, spacious, clean, had comfortable seating, and offered a great view of the water. It's a very affordable and efficient way to get from place to place, but also fun.

Crossing from Mukilteo to Clinton WA

By Hedimza |

Visiting family and friends on Whidbey island is a treat. It’s beautiful and serene. The WA state ferry makes it easy for you to go for le place to another. Employees are very friendly. The ferries are clean and hospitable.

Trip to Bainbridge Island

By backpacker31 |

I took the ferry over to Bainbridge Island on a lovely, sunny October day. The 35 minute trip was wonderful. The scenery was spectacular! The ferry was quite big and very clean and well maintained with food and drinks available onboard. For $8.65 round trip, this was certainly a bargain (for Seattle). Of note, about midway across Puget Sound, the captain announced we would be stopping due to a memorial service. I soon noticed three women on the rear deck, one clutching a box of ashes. The solemn memorial took about 10 minutes. Afterwards, the captain blew the horn three times culminating the service. I was very moved by this act of humanity - something we do not see enough of these days.

Tons of fun

By coryandkelly |

So this week was super rainy and cold so we took a ferry to see some sights from inside our first time riding the ferry very warm inside snacks and lots of windows and seats would definitely ride again

Edmonds @FERRY DETOUR SIGNAGE”

By Sandra L |

Patient passenger (surgery) going usual route from Edmonds Medical Campus to terminal. Detour at end of route, could not tell which way arrow pointed so went straight, ended in WOODWAY twice!!! Again went back went up the hill finally saw a “ferry” sign then nothing!!! Ended on HWY 104 EAST, finally had to stop by QFC TO GET DIRECTIONS TO 104 WEST!!! Unreal! Got to line 2hour wait with a “FERRY MEDICAL PASS”. Booth 4 blocks down, so I called FERRY NUMBER ON PASS and got prompted to a nice helpful lady named Sandra. She guided us to use thru lane with flashers and pull onto dock!!! Sandra saved the day for us!! NICE DOCKWORKER GOT US A SPOT!
THE BAD IS THE SIGNAGE WORKER!! THE GOOD IS WASDOT FERRY CALL CENTER EMPLOYEE!!

Love the ferry rudes

By paulac |

I love being able to relax from the long ride from Spokane to LaPush on the ferry. It’s very organized, there are refreshments and restrooms. The views are fantastic. It’s always a highlight

when in Seattle riding the ferry is a must!

By Bobbyandmarie |

Love going to Seattle and riding the Ferry. The view of the city is phenomenal. We usually like to ride to Bainbridge and drive up the road either to Port Townsend or the stop before and then drive back down to Seattle. great day

Fun entry to the city

We started in Bainbridge Island and rode the ferry over to downtown Seattle. For $21 this was the fun entry to the city. They are super fast loading all those cars.

Always love the ferry!

If you are visiting Washington- take a ferry ride! It’s a fun & cheap way to get out on the water. Always great views! Sometimes you get lucky and see some wildlife! The ferries are always clean and very efficient.

Nice way to see the city!

By LoveToTravel |

Took the ferry from Seattle to Bainbridge Island and back, just to get a view of the city from the water. Really nice way to relax after a morning of sight seeing. I would do it again.

Washington has beautiful views and nice, I would say travel everywhere except Seattle it’s pretty dangerous but pretty

The rate I have was 4 because nothing is a 5 and everything about Washington state is beautiful some is negative mostly positive.

So impressed!

By lotsagoldens |

I was so impressed with the ferry system in the San Juan islands! We drove on, but many people walk or take their bicycles. The ferries are very clean, there is plenty of comforable seating, the bathrooms are clean, and there are snacks. Refreshing and scenic rides from one place to another!

What a view. "I'm flying Jack" 🤣

By decuirm |

Worth the money. Spend it and get on and go check out the city from across the way. The weather was clear and sunny. I can now see what Derek Shepherd was talking about

We love the ferries!

We live in Seattle, and we quite regularly enjoy a trip on the ferries. There are so many great destinations. And the ride itself is fun and provides you with great views.

Good value ferry

By Dreamer818983 |

Youth free. Adult $10 round trip. Different routes, check schedule. Comfortable seating, great view. Highly recommended for visitors

I’m a regular ferry rider

By jannettb2017 |

I often take the Bremerton ferry to Seattle and the Kingston ferry to Seattle. I walk on and drive on but mostly walk on. It’s the easiest, cheapest and least stressful way to get to the Seattle side of Puget Sound. The lengthy work on Colman dock in Seattle is a hassle, especially if you’re in a car. Hopefully when the work is done (I believe in 2022) it’ll be less chaotic to be in a car. Walk on fares are affordable, especially for Seniors like me. The Bremerton and Bainbridge ferries drop you off at the Seattle waterfront within easy walking distance of lots of restaurants, shops and sightseeing. It’s a bit of a walk to the Pike Place Market, but do-able. As of summer 2021 there’s a lot of construction near the waterfront and parking is a hassle.

Bremerton/Seattle

By nancylouisewilson |

This is a great ride for out of town guests. We drove to Bremerton, drove on to a Seattle bound ferry and were able to show him several areas from the boat and then more of Seattle.

Great, Cheap boat ride. $20 total for family of 4!

By SLZ |

Loved this! For $20 total, 2 adults and 2 teens (13 and 15) sailed to Bainbridge island and back. We got out on the water, relaxed and took in the sites. Cheap and easy, plus watching the cars get on and off the boat was fun. Ate at Proper Fish - highly recommend. And hopped on a golf cart with Jack Flash to see the Troll. Great experience for a few hours.

The Same Ferry Ride as My Wife's First One...

By CWLee |

We took the ferry back to Seattle from Bainbridge Island after a nice drive around the south of the sound to Winslow and lunch at Proper Fish and a little shopping before an early afternoon ride back to Seattle. There was construction at the Seattle terminal, but it didn't seem to cause much problem or delay.

Extensive American marine transportation system...

By Capt. Evans |

Overview

+3

The largest ferry system in America is Washington State Ferries (WSF), which operates a fleet of 21 vessels across the Puget Sound and greater Salish Sea.

Often it is a wonderful experience, where one can avoid road congestion, and enjoy fantastic scenery, fresh air, and comfortable surroundings.

However, sailings can run late and/or be canceled due to weather, staffing shortages, etc.

Overall, the experience is pleasant with courteous crew, clean vessels, and convenient galley and rest rooms.

Very enjoyable

By Sheldon King |

Took the ferry from Seattle to Bremerton. A very enjoyable ride. Would highly recommend it if your heading south from Seattle much nicer than taking the boring interstate. Loved seeing the houses along the sound.

Exquisite Sound, mountain and city views, salty fresh breeze, lovely towns on the other side

By terese |

From West Seattle or the downtown Seattle waterfront, drop over to Vashon, Southworth or Bainbridge to connect to many delightful and varied towns across the Sound from Seattle metro, while feasting on the scents of the sea, sounds of rushing water, frolicking sea lions and ferry horns, and take in vistas of Olympic and Cascade Mountain ranges and the Seattle skyline. An exciting adventure in every kind of weather!

Great deal for an amazing trip

By Carmen A |

The cost of the ferry for adults 10.25 even less for seniors 5.25 for a round trip. We sailed from Pier 53 to Braindridge island. Its a small area one way in and one way out . We stayed and ate around their Main Street. You can explore the gardens with transportation. The ferries run until very late and very frequent The scenery alone was worth the ferry ride

Ferry needs comutting line

By Trek32797392212 |

There needs to be a line designated for commuters ONLY. The tourist should be last on the boat. I would pay extra money to get a spot on the boat so I can get home at a decent time.

Tour and great views

By TimBaylis |

Relaxing Ride

Great views and a great way to commute across Elliot Bay. You just sit back and relax. And, you get a completely different perspective of downtown Seattle.

A fun ride

By Susan O |

Even though I live here we take a ride on the ferry just for fun. The views are spectacular. The food, not so much, so just wait until after or bring a picnic. You can go round trip but must get off and back on at the destination. We just walk on as it’s much less expensive that way. The Seattle to Bremerton route is an hour each way, and the dock is right downtown.

Sleepless in Seattle

Very nice City to visit, took ferry over to Bainbridge, island is small but friendly everything is walking distance from the ferry. Wine tasting and restaurants in area
Maple trees in area just beautiful

Fun trip to Bainbridge Island

By ddrsears |

great little day trip from Seattle. Great ride over to Bainbridge. Boat was fast (about 35 mins to the island) and plenty of seating.

A wonderful little adventure

By Chucketta |

A wonderful little adventure from Seattle to Bainbridge Island with beautiful views. You pay to get on in Seattle but the return is free from Bainbridge. It was a clear and sunny day so we did a back-to-back roundtrip so we could see Mt. Rainier. The ferry was clean and people were kind, especially families taking each other's pictures against the Seattle Skyline. An all-around relaxing ride with great views.

Our Beloved Ferry System Has Become 3rd World

By LivingPuraVida |

Soooooo sad to see this once wonderful system diminish into complete dysfunction. Legacy vessels that remind me of ferries in 3rd world countries. No crew, no captains, numerous vessels down awaiting parts and repair. No plan to upgrade. Where is the governor of this State? Prepare to wait multiple hours trapped in the loading zone parking lots with no escape. Trying to get to a business meeting on time? Forget about it! Trying to enjoy the weekend or see other parts of our state? Hope you like packing lots! That’s were you’ll be.. Very, very sad!

Safe, speedy, respectful, well thought out.

By Cynthia W |

We enjoy the ferry system everytime we visit. Walk on or drive on. The staff is good at what they do, they move a lot of vehicles safely and also walk on. The Ferry system trys to keep to their schedule. We are amazed at the size of vehicle that enter the Ferry, 1/2 mobile home. . . really. Take something to read, while waiting for the Ferry and yes you may have to wait for another if it is a busy time. On there Ferry is lots of travel brochures, nice clean restrooms, and a few eating choices of snacks. We loved being outside and taking pictures of Mt baker and Mt Rainer, so bring phones/cameras. We like the ride from Edmounds to Kingston, about a 30 min ride with good eating places and some ice cream in Kingston, with a free fare on the way back. Enjloy.

On our way to Whidbey Island

By Sandysisland |

This is a serious operation that is handled beautifully by the staff of the Washington State ferries. Fabulous architecture as well! Gorgeous location. They run this ferry every half hour and it is something to behold. Only way over when you have a car. Sometimes the wait is long (our first trip over was) but there are restrooms there for a break. We didn't venture in the boat; preferred to stay in or around our cars while we went across. We don't have anything like this where we live so it was a fun experience. Well done to the staff. They were all smiling and happy.

best inexpensive way to tour Puget Sound

By tim49gilmore |

I often commute on the ferries and find the morning or afternoon rides a pleasant way to unwind. I send visitors for a ferry tour of the sound, on occasions they will see Orcas but always a good experience and great views

The best and most affordable way to see Seattle skyline

By BrakiWorldTraveler |

This was the first thing we did after landing in Seattle. We parked our car across the terminal and bought our tickets on spot.
You pay only for the Bainbridge direction, while the return journey is free.
Price is only 10$ pp while kids up to, I think 16 are free. For comparison, tourist vessels at Seattle pier charge around 40$ for a 1 hour cruise.
It takes 35 min to make a crossing. During the journey, you are rewarded with terrific views of entire Seattle skyline.
I suggest taking the ferry before sunset, so you can enjoy day views on your way to Bainbridge and Seattle night views on your way back.

What a bargain!

By stjohnbeachlover |

My husband and I and our friends were looking for a boat tour to take around Seattle and came across the Washington ferries site. The ferries are very reasonable and discounted even more for seniors. We took the ferry over to Bainbridge Island. It was a very smooth ride and took about 30 or 40 minutes each way. It was large so we were able to social distance. Everyone was wearing a mask as well. All in all a great day!

Enjoyable Ferry Service

By SafetyDave1986 |

We took the ferry from Anacortes to Orcas Island and returned to Anacortes four days later. Both ferry rides were most enjoyable. The scenery was spectacular. The passenger lounge and restrooms were clean, and the lounge seats were comfortable. The ferries were both on time, and the ferry shrugged off a stiff breeze on the return trip. The ferry staff were pleasant and very helpful. We took advantage of elevator placement on the vehicle deck on the return trip.

Take the Fast Ferry from Seattle to Bremerton, only 1/2 hour. Same coming back

By Stephen G |

$ 1.00 for Seniors. If you arrive ast SEATAC airport late (arrive +/-10 pm PT) and need to get to Bremerton, basically you will need to either get the shuttle to Bremerton 1 1/2 hours, about $35 per person or try to get to the ferry in Seattle to catch the late night passenger/car ferry (ferry is about an hour). Crew on the ferries are professional, pay attention to their job and are very helpful with any questions.

Do NOT use the WA State Ferry System

By Kim D |

Do NOT ever attempt to ride a Washington State Ferry to any island. You may not get home or get off the island the day you want to leave. Even with a reservation! The employees are NOT helpful and do not tell you about important facts about the reservation system- such as you must have your reservation two hours in advance of the ferry departure. You also must give up your reservation in order to go stand by. It is a CLUSTER of epic proportions!! Do NOT ride or use the ferry system!!!!! I have lived in Washington my entire life and will never ride again.

Smooth Trip

By Hiker_2337 |

The Washington State Ferry system is well organized, clean and safe. The time schedule fits into almost any schedule on any vacation.

Trip to Vancouver

By Peggy C |

Outstanding!! The service was outstanding both inside and outside the boat. Embarking and disembark was so easy. On the Clipper the seats were comfortable and the food was reasonably priced. Afterwards I left and realized I had dropped my hat. I called their office, left a message and in four hours they called and said they had the hat. Just great personal service!!!!

Great ride and wildlife

By Hiedi S |

Great ride. Easy onboarding. Saw fish, jellyfish, and a seal. When we were most way to the docks, the captain announced orcas were visible. We were lucky enough to spot them. Awesome experience.

A great value

By Mimi899 |

We went to Bainbridge IS on the ferry. It was on time, easy to purchase tickets, cheap and comfortable. Loved seeing the Seattle skyline.

A must if you are in Seattle.

By Johnson1985 |

We purchased our tickets online, it was easy boarding, comfortable and scenic ride, and easy coming back.

I'm a frequent traveler...

By lynnfelton |

We have a cabin on Lopez, which is a lovely island, and a great retreat from the city. The people are friendly to everyone, there is so much good food in the many varied restaurants, and the island is just peaceful and welcoming.

Serene Ferry Ride to Beautiful Bainbridge

By Khalid K |

The ferry terminal was easy to get to and we reached 15 minutes before departure time.
The ferry was 20 minutes lares, but considering 200+ cars coming off and one, a small time delay can be expected.
The ferry was very quiet and we enjoyed the ride across the lake to Bainbridge.
The city of Bainbridge was peaceful and the reserves and parks were a treat.

Nice time on the ferry

By njgramps |

While it was a bit confusing to figure out how and where to get in because of the construction and lack of signs once we did we were able to quickly buy tickets and board. The trip was smooth each way and kept to the schedule.

Ferry to Bainbridge from Seattle

By Maria H |

During construction only, getting to the line to pay for cars on the ferry was so challenging that it required a private escort to the entrance by a construction foreman! Even a rat could not have navigated the maze effectively once we got to entrance of the line. It was insane that the ferry did not inform online how to navigate the detour through construction. The concession stand was not open on the ferry (probably because of COVID), they could have informed us of that on the website. Other than that, it was a wonderful experience. Little pricey for a car and price for car does not include passengers. But it was worth it and it saved gas and time.

Really really REALLY long waits

By Starr |

Overpriced for a transportation system. But worse? Hours and hours of waiting after hours of traffic getting to any ferry on the Seattle side. Utter shame.

Covid-19 and our ferries

By paula t |

We took the ferry over the week end. This was our first ferry excursion since the pandemic . We always enjoy the ferry service and appreciate this mode of inexpensive, easy transportation.
During our trips over the week end , I was struck by what an excellent job the DOT has done in meeting the Covid-19 protocols .I will post some photos I took to show what the DOT has done to help keep us safe.

Washington state ferries are top notch

Washington ferry system rocks. The employees are masters at loading and unloading. They are friendly. Ferries are clean. It is always a fun ride.

The best $8.50 you can spend!!!

On a cloudy and rainy day, I decided to take the ferry to Bainbridge Island. It is bar far the best $8.50 you can spend. we got extremely lucky and were able to see a large pod of Orcas . Absolutely awesome .

Olympic to Seattle

By WildWildeWorld |

I don't think you should visit Seattle without taking a ferry ride. Great way to see the city but also get over towards Olympic National Park.

Best Day Trip

By Mimi C |

I love taking the ferry from Seattle to Bainbridge! The sweet spot on a week day is boarding around 11:30. You completely skip the work traffic and can come back around 2 and skip traffic home too. The views of the city are so pretty on a sunny day. The staff is always friendly and efficient.

Great way to see Seattle from the water!

By Keith |

Took the ferry to check out Bainbridge Island. the ferry's are clean, cheap and on time. You get a great view of Seattle coming and going from the island, great photo opportunities.
They have plentiful indoor and outdoor seating, and even a small cafe with beverages and snacks.

Nice Ride & Good Way To See Seattle

By Robert S |

Took the ferry to Bainbridge. The ferry was spacious and clean. Views were great. Number of walk-ons was modest. Tickets are only scanned on the Seattle -Bainbrdge segment, not on the return. Inside seating was pleasant though many folks sat on the open-air deck. Restrooms, vending machines & cafe were available. Highly recommend.

First-time users - used the website to buy tickets. Didn't realize only one was needed for a round trip.

Didn't realize they needed to be printed in color - scanner didn't read black bar code. Staff had to come by and apply an override.

Terminals were fine with expectedly long ramp walks to terminal and from terminal to ship.

Comfortable ships with the best views around

By SunnyandBuster |

The WA State ferry system is your default choice for getting to and from the San Juan Islands and also Vancouver Island. They typically run on time and when there are mechanical issues they accommodate they best they can by shifting boats around to different schedules. Take advantage of the reservation system when you can, especially in the summer months. The cost of tickets seems fair. I personally enjoy riding the ferry and think it is a nice thing to do with out of town guests.

The worst

By jeff h |

When will they ever get their act together?! It’s been a full on construction zone for the longest time. No thought to commuters or tourists. The funny thing is the airport ads luring people to take the ferry. Attaching a pic of the grand entrance. ??????

walkon's welcomed,

By Bob |

If you never rode a ferry and hung over the fan tail railing looking down at the propeller wash you simply don't have much of a imagination. Riding to Bremerton is a good 45 minuete ride so take a book. The food is good and their is beer.. The clam chowder is always good and of course you will want to get back onboard for the trip back.

Unreliable, mismanaged by the DOT, WA. doesn't care.

By todd d |

Notify when you cancel a boat, especially the last one of the day.

We were notified the ferry was cancelled and kept looking for update alerts, finally got one stating that there was going to be an added boat at 10:40pm so we were happy we were going to be able to return home with a truck full of perishable items.

We arrived at the Anacortes ferry booth, all of them were closed but one with an open sign on but no one was there, no note on the window, nothing. Only after I drove all the way in and walked up to the wall on terminal did I find an employee who told me the last sailing of 10:40 was cancelled!

No notice on the website, nor on the DOT website, nothing to let us know anything about the last boat being cancelled. The DOT app is useless if you don't update the info and alerts. Vessilwatch is a joke.

We had to stay overnight and catch the 06:00 am ferry.

Nice ride in clean boat

By groupleader45212 |

The ferries are practicing social distancing in seating and passenger safety.
Very few travelers and no problem finding an empty seat.
Very inexpensive at $4.5 round trip for seniors

Love the WA Ferries

By 907travelgirl |

Love WA Ferry, kind of expensive though. Pt Townsend to Coupeville, Seattle to Bainbridge, Anacortes to Orcas, love all the runs.

Overall I would return to see the sights.

By JoArts |

Great overall experience! Just a little to crowded for myself and my family! Next time I will plan a different time of day to explore.

Peaceful ride

By Casey S |

My husband, my teenager and I took a trip to Seattle for a birthday. We decided to rent a car, drive up to Anacortes, and take the ferry over to San Juan Island. I would recommend getting your ferry pass two days in advance. We looked at only one day in advance, and all the times that worked for us we’re already booked and since it is an hour and a half drive from Seattle, we weren’t willing to try to Just drive up and see if they would let us on or if they had room. Also, you don’t really know how much your fairy fair will be until you get there. There were three of us in a jeep wrangler and it was $45 each way. That was a little higher than I was expecting, but it’s OK. The fairy was very clean. We took on our own food, had a really nice booth to sit and eat at. The fairies very quiet. It was not very crowded so maybe that also led to our great experience. We also had beautiful weather. It was partly cloudy about 50°. It was just really relaxing to sit and look out the windows at all the majesty around us. You could walk out on the deck and they were seats up at the front that you could have 180° view of all the different islands in houses and things around. We were a little disappointed that we did not see any whales, but we can’t help that. There was a problem with another fairy so our fairy had to take an extra stop. However, that was listed on the ferry schedule, so we already knew about that and honestly it was so peaceful I didn’t mind.

Beautiful scenery but be flexible about your schedule

By annmayereisen |

The ferry to San Juan Island was an experience in itself but some ferry runs were cancelled. We had reservations, we had to be flexible and adjust to the schedule of ferries running that day. Plan ahead but be prepared to shift those plans at a moment's notice. Changes in schedule were due to some ferries being down and staff shortages.

Terrible service. Paid reservation, arrived 30 min early and still had to wait for the next one

By Hamilton |

What’s the point of reservation for 18$ when you have to arrive 30-45 min early and then don’t even make it to the ferry. While the ferry you sign up for was late 20 minutes. This is a terrible service. We wanted to go to Orcas Island and ended up waiting for 2-3 hours. Even though we arrive 30 minutes before our scheduled reservation. Will never travel with this ferry again. Waisted our vacation.

Beautiful ride

By Sherry F |

We took our car on the ferry to Langley on Whidbey Island from Seattle. It was a short ride with gorgeous scenery. I recommend getting out for your car to fully enjoy the scenery and fresh air.

Vashon island to Seattle

Rode the short ferry to vashon island to work and it was very accommodating.we parked a car underneath,4 people and it was less than$40. It's free coming back.

Part of my life for 50 years

By Gary M |

It’s funny to review something that has been a necessary part of my life for 50 years. For 15 years we came from Seattle to visit relatives across Puget Sound. For the past 35 years, we’ve lived in Port Angeles and gone the other way. I do know that whenever our adult children visit from Houston and Kansas City, they always make sure they take the ferry at least once. I gave them four stars because I know that there are fancier ferries other places, but I have no complaints. You always see boats and birds, and even an occasional orca.

Ferry system horrible

By babyblue2212 |

Ferry system very bad!! Make sure you have side plans for staying a day on one side or the other because 80% it’s cancelled and/or delayed! Washington state doesn’t give a crap how long you wait or if you make your destination! Anacortes to Friday Harbor

They are using excise Covid but that is a fall out excuse!!

Great island tour

By Dutch0011 |

The ferry was a pleasant and affordable way to enjoy a tour of Washington’s beautiful scenery. We left our car in the parking lot, walked on and spent several hours on the water. We had sufficient time for a cup of coffee on San Juan island and return. It was easy to get on and off. Seating onboard was relaxing and we had ample time to admire the scenery. See Washington, take a ferry ride!

Ferry Ride to Bainbridge

By Greg M |

What a bargain. We took the Bainbridge for cheap view of Puget Sound by water. $8.60 each round trip, a bargain. Great experience, a must do for a visit to Seattle

Awesome Ride from Bremerton to Seattle!

After all the Christmas Morning festivities we drove over to Bremerton to catch the ferry to Seattle...what a fantastic ride! We had seven in our group and a large SUV...total cost was fifteen bucks, what a deal!

Fast and comfy! Lots of room to roam and parking the car was a breeze. Sights were great...a must do in Seattle

1st Sailing of the Day

By Horsfallpics |

A beautiful trip on the Bainbridge Island Ferry (between Seattle & Bainbridge Island). Best trip of the day is the first of the day as you get to see the sunrise. This often highlights the peaks of the Olympic National Forest as was the case this past Friday (before Memorial Day Holiday).

Great experience

By Owenthomas |

Very fun to ride the ferry around Puget Sound. Signage to drive onto the ferry is very easy to navigate. Leave your cae and go up to the passenger decks for some great views.

Fun ride to Bainbridge Island

By Helen |

My friend and I did a ferry ride to Bainbridge Island. We absolutely enjoyed the ride and the view of the city from the ferry especially on our way back from the island was exceptional.

LOVE THE FERRY SYSTEM!

By EntheendTravels |

We stayed on Bainbridge Island and rode the ferry into Seattle. We lucked out and had gorgeous weather when traveling on the ferry back and forth all weekend. When the water is calm, you can hardly tell you are on a boat, which was bonus for my boyfriend who gets seasick.

We love the experience and it's a great way to see the islands that surround the Seattle area and the harbor!

Well run system

By GitchSup |

We were sad that there were not more ferries operating while we visited, but I know that COVID decimated their captains, and replacing them is near impossible with the extensive amount of training required to operate the vessels. I have a feeling some of the services will not be replaced. We did take the ferry between Bainbridge and Seattle and it was fantastic! The whole operation is run like a well-oiled machine and you drive right onto the ferry. Once on you can get out of your vehicle and walk around, there are places to sit inside and watch the scenery go by the window, restrooms, and a convenience/deli area to get your morning coffee or afternoon treat. If the weather is nice you can go outside on the bow and watch the approach to your destination. The only thing I wish is that we got to ride it more than once.

Ferry service is okay

By Fearless40910496423 |

Busy ferry with extremely long wait time. They hook out most spots for reservations. Your wait could be five hours. It’s ridiculous. Stay away from food on the ferry! It’s not very good. Bathrooms and cleanliness are just okay. Paying premium pricing $80 round trip to wait hours because they don’t have a good ferry schedule. Take away the 3 hour gap in the middle of the day and add another route so people don’t have to wait that long.

They did get us there, one time 2 hr late.

By Leanne D |

Review from a person who has been on ferries in over ten states and a couple of other countries. The people at the booths were clearly sick and tired of their jobs. I work retail, so I get how tiring people can be, but this was more like dealing with ex-DMV employees who were fired from the DMV for a bad attitude. Angry, unhelpful, no matter how cheery we were. It was like this: US: hi we have a ... them: where you going? US: friday harbor... we were ... Them: papers? Us: right here... which do you.... them: last name? Us: answer our name them: line 5. Yeah, ok, thanks for that, I guess. You get two because those loading at least smiled and were good at what they were doing. The on line was difficult, confusing, and while quick to tell you no refunds, really didnt explain the process to get to the right place at the right time.

Quick, easy, beautiful!!

By Diane N |

Maybe had to wait 20 minutes to get to Whidby by ferry. Very organized. Friendly, clean. Only downfall. Couldn't hang out upstairs due to the virus. Still got some cool pics, though!!

Fun way to travel

By Geekette92064 |

Drove up to Fidalgo and down to Whidbey island. Took the Ferry back to Seattle. Did the trip at night. Very few cars on the ferry, but really enjoyed the experience. Will definitely ride others next visit. Fun way to get where you’re going without having the long drive.

Sight seeing at its best

By Amy D |

There is nothing better then riding the ferry on a sunny day in Seattle. Park your car, go up and get your coffee and be ready to be amazed at the beauty and phenomenal sights of Seattle and the islands.

Nice harbor ride

By Ellie H |

I took this to visit Bainbridge island for an afternoon. Inexpensive and efficient. The ferry was large and clean with refreshments to purchase if needed.

ferry ride to Bainbridge island

By Placervillewiney |

The ferry system is interesting to see the rate of speed to get cars on and off is worth the ride.... the trip to Bainbridge is $4.50 (seniors) per person and is a round trip fare (no car). Pleasant trip across the bay and wonderful views of Seattle

Worse customer service

By Azi K |

I take the ferry from Seattle to Bremerton twice trip per week
When I try to buy my ticket through the window it is always the same man or woman on their phones texting and taking their time asking them to rush but they ignored everybody taking their slow time with people, even they do not greetings people and very made even sometimes they do not pay attention about your distinction also they give me the change short because they were busy texting several time
Guess what, on the 8th of this month I arrived to the ferry terminal around 1015 pm and the man who was in the window was sleeping and he was mad at me because I asked about service, even the change was short given
I am taking the ferry twice per week since 2018 and just want to say that those people are worse and very none professional at all
It is too bad that the ferry hiring like those people to be the face of Seattle and Kitsap

Easy and Cheap!

By miscellani |

Great experience riding the ferry out to Bainbridge Island! You can buy your round trip ticket at the booth at the dock. Highly recommend the day trip out to Bainbridge.

Must do!

By Ldteacher11 |

Definitely take one of the ferries. It is the best experience in such an inexpensive activity. You get beautiful views of the city and if it’s cold, you can go inside where it’s warm and view everything from inside.

Bainbridge Island Ferry at Sunset

Highlight of the day was crossing Puget Sound on the Ferry and seeing the Seattle skyline AND Mount Rainier

The best ferry network I have been to in my whole life. You can go practically anywhere in those waters.

By DurvalF |

Regular and reliable both for passengers and cars. If one includes the Fery from Washington State to Victoria even better, That one is a very realiable ferry boat.

Enjoyable ride

By eyesbblue |

It was fun taking the ferry. We enjoyed the ride and the experience. Reasonably price as well. Would certainly do again.

Biggest and worst

By Nein |

Biggest ferry service, the worst. Delays for years. Tourists are kind a ok but commuters are frustrated.

Unreliable

By Mike T |

The ferry service in the San Juan's is so unreliable... It will leave an hour late from Anacortes on a clear calm day with no explanation. Then the direct ferry you book from Friday Harbor and clarified with the ticket dude will leave early but inexplicably stop at 3 islands on the way book meaning you arrive late. Do not book anything that depends upon any arrival times as the schedule is just a suggestion.

Lovely view! Fun times!

By GB82Paratrooper |

Location was nice and was surrounded by lots of amenities. With that being said, expect construction work for an extended amount of time.

Great ride to Bainbridge Island

By phvi2617 |

Driving onboard the ferry was very easy from the Seattle terminal. Just enter from Alaskan Way and Jackson St and follow the signs. I got there about 15 minutes before the 6:30 PM departure, which I thought was going to be tight, but there turned out to be plenty of space.

The ride is very comfortable and scenic, and there is both indoor and outdoor seating. The boat also has a galley with a decent (albeit pricey) selection of snacks and simple hot foods. Overall, the ferry is the perfect way to travel from Seattle to the Olympic Peninsula.

Fast and efficient

By Samacaiz |

We visited Bainbridge and were impressed by the roomy efficient service. The ferry left on time and provided a cheap and comfortable ride across the water. Shame about the state of the terminal

Wonderful Ways To Experience The Seattle Area

By Ron S |

Construction on the new docks is a challenge to say the least. However, as someone who loves the water, as I do, the inconvenience is worth it. As the construction began last year when I was there and knew that it would be years to reach completion, I was not aware of the new schedule which greatly limited sailing times. Nonetheless, I ventured on as this is absolutely one of my favorite things to do in Seattle. This time, like most times, I just go to Bainbridge Island. The wineries and fun shops on the Main Street road are delightful. Just looking at the water and relaxing brings me great joy and if you need help it is easy to find. The prices of the concessions are high but just like an airport you are captive to their domain. I always try to at least go on one round trip to either Bainbridge Island or Bremerton when I am there and will do so once again when I am there in March. If you like the water please do not miss the chance to have this wonderful experience.

MUST DO

By Douglas B |

We boarded the first boat to the island to have breakfast. Great photo opportunities of downtown and the mountains. Very safe, clean, and fast. Extremely windy on deck.

Always a good trip to enjoy PNW beauty - especially for visitors

By Karen B |

Recently took the ferry to the Kitsap Peninsula - every time I enjoy just looking at the scenery! This is a great trip for visitors - usually easy on-off and lots to do and see on both ends of the ferry trips!

Must-Do!

By ninjakitty12 |

Very organized! You can purchase tickets online, at a kiosk, or with a ticket agent. Under $10 a person, and the ferry back to Seattle is free. 35 minute ride, and it's a beautiful view of the city. We got off the ferry at Bainbridge and got right back on. Not sure if there are restrooms on the ferry, but there are restrooms at the slip/dock. Highly recommended!

WASHINGTON STATE FERRIES Seattle to Bainbridge

Take a relaxed ferry over to Bainbridge Island and get away from the Seattle bustle.
A trip across the water to view the bay.
Bainbridge is a laid back small town.

Nice big ferry

By Janetlynn13 |

Inexpensive. You only pay going out .. around $8.,biggest and nicest ferry I've ever been on. Lots of inside seating options, food, bathrooms and viewing decks.

Cheapest harbor cruise in the city

By Walk Seattle Tours |

$8.50 gets you a round trip ticket on any ferry from downtown. The Bremerton ferry gives you an hour on the water each way, but the town of Bremerton offers nothing to do. The Bainbridge Island Ferry is 30 minutes each way on the water, and the town of Winslow offers a plethora of distractions including their restaurants, shops, boutiques, galleries, a really cool ice cream shop, and 12 wineries. Fairies run from 5:30 in the morning until a little after 1 AM. Bainbridge Island is closed Mondays.

Excellent

A must while your in Seattle. The sound is beyond beautiful. I used them every chance I could to go and see as much as possible.

Traveling back and forth from the islands, peninsulas and Seattle was a great experience that save hours of road travel. Loved that there are so many different places to catch a ferry and to depart!

A Fun Time For The Family

By bigbobr |

We (son and family) took the ferry on this Sunday from Bremerton to Seattle. It was sunny, slightly breezy and a great day for sailing.

My grandson’s loved going on the really big boat and going up on the upper decks to watch the other boats and see the city coming up.

The ship is very comfortable, has restrooms and a small cafeteria that serves a great local chowder.

The sights from the ship are awesome and the air fresh.

It also is a better way to get into Seattle than driving on I-5.

Try it you’ll like it.

Good system, terrible execution

By Ryan |

Honestly, half the time the ferries aren't late. Other half of the time, the ferries aren't on time, and you might not get an explanation why. I still recommend using the system as much as you can though

Fun trip to Bainbridge

By WorldTraveler9 |

On a hot day, nothing is nicer than a cool ferry ride to Bainbridge Island. Very affordable, with plenty of seating and good people-watching.

Nice inexpensive way to enter Seatle

By Tommy599 |

From Bremengton, the ferry MV Chimacum loaded quickly with about ½ a full load of vehicles for the 1:30 PM 40 minute trip over to the mainland and the city of Seattle. Wow what a clear day for the trip as Mount Rainer (14,400 ft high active volcanic peak stood ever so prominent. The cost of the trip with the four of us and the vehicle was $13.55 = a True Bargain verses driving the land route.

Check to see if you need Reservations!

By Julie |

I don’t know if all the ferries require reservations but we lost an entire day of our vacation because you have to make reservations, I guess a day or more ahead. We drove an hour and a half to Port Townsend to find out there was no space all day on a week day! There are standby spaces that are nearly impossible to get on. It was very disappointing! I would recommend that you check hours and make reservations before you think of doing anything! Even many restaurants close before dinner time now and wineries require you make an appointment at each one for a tasting/visit . You can’t just stop by. Wish I had known this before I planned!

Saving time from Olympic Park back to Seattle

After driving over 2,000 miles and visiting the Olympic National Park, it was a blessing to find out about the ferries at Edmond. I had checked the information prior to our arrival and there is really no guarantee that you can get on once you get there. You may have to wait. Well, for us it was perfect timing. Our wait was less then ten minutes and it was a beautiful ride to Seattle. This is really a well organized operation. I had gone to use the rest room and could not feel the ferry pulling away from the dock. For seniors there is no charge and only $16 for your car. You can't beat that with a stick. It was also amazing how quick we could get to interstate 5 from the dock. So for those who are looking to save time on your travels, thanking this Ferry to Seattle is beyond work it. I would just say, once you make that turn off for Edmond it seems forever to get their, Sit back and relax, there is light at the end of the tunnel. If any works for this ferry read the reviews, I want to thank you for such a well run business.

A great trip for a cheap price

By gea4957 |

Took the Bremerton ferry round trip in the early evening as a foot passenger. As I qualified for the senior rate one of the best values in sightseeing in the Seattle area. Plenty of room, seating and a beautiful lit up skyline on the return trip for a few dollars round trip. Lots of beautiful scenery plus a stunning view of Mount Rainier if the weather permits. A must for the budget traveler.

Water Taxi

By Carl D |

Rode the water taxi to and from West Seattle for a football game at Lumen Field. Very easy to get on, and just a short ride across. The walk to the stadium was shorter than even anticipated. Great experience.

Poorly Managed WSF System.

By Ron M |

We have been commuting on WSF for 30 years with little disruption. But then everything went wrong and we have not seen any improvements for years now. We can not rely on WSF at all. As a manager I would have been fired if I failed like the ferry leaders have. Hang in their the hard working ferry workers doing your best against all odds.

Wow what a wonderful adventure on the ferry. The crew is wonderful well organized and pleasant to deal with. We will return to explore more islands. Thank you

Efficient/expedient

By footprints |

Saves travel time and limits travel stress. A must use when traveling about the area. We traveled on 3 different ferries.Docks are well marked. The deck areas are great for moving about ( very clean) and good food choices. Also a good selection of travel info/brochures. Staff is well trained for loading and off loading.

Weekend trip to Bridgebain island

By Alexander F |

Excellent service, on time, perfectly clean ship, they really adjusted to the Covid situation, the ship employees were very nice

Ferry trip across the bay and back

By NDSydney56 |

This was a cheap way of seeing the harbour and the skyline of Seattle rather than get a cruise around the bay unfortunately it was an overcast day but still enjoyed it

very nice tview of Seattle

By Eduardo S |

very nice the view from the sea, nice experience, I wanted a 2-3 hour trip, the only one available was one hour

To the Islands

By Thomas V |

You will see these boats coming and going from the downtown area, crossing the Sound to islands and Kitsap County. It is the only way to get to some places and is efficient and comfortable.

Bainbridge day trip

By mabinho |

Taking the ferry to and from Bainbridge island is a great day out - the boat trip is part of the fun and offers some great views to the city and its surroundings.

Clean, Easy, On Schedule

By Jim N |

Very pleasant trips to and from Bainbridge Island. Ferries were clean and spacious. Decent snack bar / cafeteria.

Bainbridge Island

By Alan s |

Took the ferry for our trip to Olympic National Park.. Very efficient. Good value. Wait times were not overly long nice views from the upper deck

Great Ride to visit the Kitsap Peninsula.

By DandK |

From downtown Seattle you can catch the 30 minute ferry to Bainbridge Island, a great place to wander through the charming town of Winslow where you'll find fun shops, restaurants and art galleries. You can also take the car ferry or the passenger ferry to Bremerton, the home of the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. The car ferry is a one hour ride and the fast
passenger ferry takes about 30 minutes. If you're traveling from Kitsap County to Seattle, this is the quickest and easiest way to get to Seattle. If you're lucky, you might just see a few resident or transient orca.

Great way to travel and get a view of Seattle

By Karim Maarouf |

We took the ferry to cross from Seattle to Baynbridge on our way to Olympic national park. The whole experience is quite nice. You drive onto the ferry, then can leave your car and wander around the ferry to check the view or get a snack or drink indoors. On the way back it was nighttime and the view of Seattle was very nice.

Fun ride.

By RandyRoss |

While in Seattle, we decided to go for a drive and a ferry ride. We ended up taking the ferry over to Whidbey Island and back. It was a fun ride and quite reasonable for 2 seniors. We never had to wait long but could see that it could easily happen.
On the way over we parked on the lower level and took the elevator up to the passenger level for the crossing. On the return trip we parked on the second level but opted to stay in our vehicle for the short ride.

wonderful trip to Bainbridge

By RitaAdvisor |

Lucky to have sunny skies on the way. very quaint village. Rural, natural setting. Toured the town fairly quickly, and went to eat. then the rains came that thwarted any further explorations. but it was worth the trip. Seniors trip over is only $4.30, return trip is free. Was a relaxing time from the busy-ness of Seattle.

30 Minutes to Bainbridge!

By Jennifer E |

Spent one day of our Seattle trip and rode the ferry to Bainbridge...the ferry made it all the more fun! It's inexpensive and a beautiful way to view the Seattle skyline!

Edmunds to Kingston Round Trip - Effecient and Comfortable

By NewfiePupLover |

You don't have much choice if you're wanting to get from Edmunds to Kingston, but the E-K ferry was still a pleasant adventure. Efficient loading and unloading of the ferry, quick service across the Sound, and a comfortable passenger deck to watch the waterway from...and all for a very reasonable price.

WSF are Worth Sailing Forever!

By michellegrunberg86 |

This system is the best in the industry. All “flows” are beautiful and the staff is friendly. I got to go on just about all the routes from June - Sept. many times in Fauleroy/SW. Seattle/Bainbridge. San Juan Island all. Port Angeles. We rolled full time as #VanLifers. I’m telling you - not one hiccup, nor long delay. Even my Orcas Island home to Anacortes late at night was incredible. Go early or late. It’s magical!

Thanks to the web people. I found info easy and I KNOW I’ll miss being up in WA as I travel SE to FL for winter. You guys ROCK!

A great way to see Puget Sound.

By Jay H |

We took the ferry from Bremerton back to Seattle and were greeted with clear skies and great views of the city. Mt Rainier in the distance was also amazing to see. It took over an hour but this was well worth it.

Ferry to Bainbridge Island

By MaryLou S |

Best way to visit Bainbridge Island. Ferry ride was enjoyable and free to move about to enjoy all the sights going and coming back.

Ferry to Bremerton

By Sandy C |

We rode the ferry from Seattle to Bremerton. Loved how there was so much room to walk around and get different views. Nice that there is a cafeteria that even serves beer. Very nice trip there and back.

Check the schedule

By Janet S |

The views are great. It's a neat way to travel. We didn't have a single ferry run on schedule. So be prepared to wait. Also make sure you have a reservation if you are taking a car. Otherwise you will really wait. Walking on isn't a problem.

Frequent comfortable boats

By 325grahamb2015 |

Inexpensive, frequent services to local destinations, cheaper than harbour cruises. Comfortable car carrying ferries

Great way to get around

By waterlover19 |

We took the fairy out to San Juan island. Beautiful trip, even got to see a pack of Orcas! When our rental car wouldn't start the kid working was so excited to bring his Zamboni-like cart to us and jump our car!

A Great Way To Sightsee On The Ferry Ride

By DeoniaNeveu |

We took the Ferry ride over to Port Orchard, WA and it was a very nice and quick ride, with a ton of great comfortable seating styles. You can bring your Car and/or Motorcycle onto the Ferry as well. On a one way Trip Ticket, you get a return trip back without a Fee for Port Orchard. The Ferry has a lot of flexible times that it operates and stays open into the late Evening hours, but be sure to check the times that work for you. We enjoyed the ride it was like having a cheap Tour Ride. The Ferry Boat also has a light Snack stand inside to buy a drink or a snack (Candy Bars etc.).

Nice Ride

By TxMom1084 |

We used the Bainbridge ferry and it was a nice ride. Very easy to board and unboard. Clean and have refreshments available if desired. Has indoor and outdoor seating and was easily to space out if concerned.

Scenic, comfortable way to see the city from the Sound with good service to the communities on West Side.

By vox69nn |

Very efficient operaton. Nice vessels with comfortable seating, good viewing places, convenient schedules. Prices for passage - individuals and vehicles - seemed reasonable. The views of the city and the west side of the Sound are impressive.People could treat the ferry ride as a cruise or actually use it as a conveyance to a port on the west side. That's what we did, traveling with our car to Bremerton. There is a snack bar on board but the prices are astronomical!!! So we passed it up.

Smooth ride.

By jennyrae_81 |

Even though it is a smooth ride, if you get motion sick, be sure to take your meds. Just enough of a rock to mess with you. Safe travels.

Best way to Whidbey Island

By MWK51 |

we flew into Everett for a wedding on whidbey Island. This was the shortest and quickest way there. Unfortunately a plan delay meant we did not approach the ferry until 3 PM on a Friday Afternoon. As you might expect, it was very busy and we waited 2 hours to get on the ferry. We were parked on the road, a long way from the parking lot. Once we reached our designated spot in the parking lot, it was about 30 minutes to driving on the ferry. There are several nice seafood restaurants at the parking lot area, so if you have a wait, safe your appetite for a bite here. They are very efficient in the loading and unloading of vehicles on to the ferry. Some will drive (and park) om steep driveways to upper levels. there are restrooms and concessions on board, but the ride only takes about 20 minutes. There is a quick peek at the sound until you are docking on the island.

DO NOT TRAVEL TO COLEMAN DOCK ALONE AT NIGHT

By Jan |

On 1/12/2020 Uber dropped me off at the Seattle Ferry terminal around 9:30 pm. No employee was around to help. I had 1 large piece of luggage, my computer, and my purse (as I'd come from SeaTac). I was faced with this choice: l) lug all the stuff up a tall set of snowy stairs or b) walk down an unlit, dark sidewalk and around a corner to a supposed elevator somewhere in the inky night. (!) I have cancer. I'm almost 70. I should not have been faced with this choice. It is an unsafe situation for women traveling alone at night!

Amazing experience

By kirstenmassey |

WOW. We have only taken a ferry in Savannah, GA...This one is the Cadillac to that Toyota Camry!! It is HUGE. Runs smoothly. Didn't know you could ferry vehicles until we had already gotten on, but would have loved to do that so that we'd have our vehicle on Bainbridge! We loved all the different seating options; inside, outside, tables, water facing chairs, you name it. There was even a puzzle going at one of the tables we sat at. Love the community feel, but the really high quality facility.

Great Reliable Ferries

Washington State Ferries are Excellent Ferries. We have ridden them many times. They are reasonably priced, good quality and reliable.

Gorgeous scenic Ferry Trip through Sound

By sexybaby7399 |

I took this ferry trip at 1110 on a sunny Saturday morning and had a gorgeous ride from Bremerton to Seattle going by Bainbridge Island and other islands and experiencing beautiful views in transit. It was taken as a foot passenger so that my wife could have use of our car in Bremerton while I met with my daughter in Seattle. The personnel were all very friendly and accommodating and the trip seemed much shorter than the hour it took! A highly recommended and very economical way to cruise the sound! It’s free to Seattle from Bremerton and senior fares bring the cost down to $4.30 to Bremerton with other discount fares for children and adult fares under $10.

Everett /Mukiteo

By astm1557 |

If you know how to use this one it is extremely efficient. Traffic on the 5 freeway can be brutal through Everett. If you are going to Whidbey , try it you will like it. No time for food, grab a coffee look around and jump back into the car. Less than 20 minutes from time you car gets aboard to the time you arrive if weather is favorable.

Sunset Magic on the Seattle–Bainbridge Ferry

By Vyshnavi Vennelakanti |

I loved the ferry experience! It was such a pleasant ride with amazing scenic views! The views of Seattle and Mt Rainier never cease to amaze me! The ferry is usually not very crowded. I have take the ferry once from Seattle to Bainbridge island and once back from Bainbridge island to Seattle. Both way, the ferry wasn’t crowded. I must say that this was over weekdays so that could potentially explain this. I got the ticket in person in Seattle at the ticket counter/information help desk. On my way back though, I bought the ticket online. It costs around $10 for a one way ferry ride. It took approximately 30-40 minutes for the trip. I loved the sunset views! They’re the best 🌅

Ran like clockwork

By Clive |

Crossed to Whidbey Island from Mukilteo. Very efficient ticketing booths and loading. 20 minute ride was smooth.

Gets you to where you need to go!

By Llew |

It's nice to see the city using the ferry. The service is prompt, there's a coffee barista on board, and it's a nice smooth trip into the city at a convenient spot.

The ferry boats are a must for sightseers.

By Louise C |

This is a great way to see the Seattle skyline and to spend a few hours on a nice day. The shortest journey is from Seattle to Bainbridge, and while tickets for adults are just under $10, teens go free! Plenty of seating inside and some up on deck.

Worst ferry system in the US: delays, cancellations inaccurate information on line

By Arthur N |

We were on a weekend trip on Whidbey Island. The delay to get there was 3 hours.
When we tried to come back they had cancelled one of the two ferries.
We heard from others this is a constant t and continuing problem.
The ferries are always late and in comparison to BC Ferries the ships, the service, the delays, the cancelations make this the worst ferry experience ever.

The shame of ferry's everywhere...

By Darlene S |

My letter to WSDOT:
To whom it may concern,

The ferry terminal to the San Juan islands is appalling. Despite astronomical prices for fares, the carpets are stained and crusty-- you can't tell what color they once were, the floor is littered with trash, the walls and seat frames flake paint, and the whole place is filthy. Your web site is a nightmare: boat information is missing, it's not updated, and it barely works. You can't get crew to even show up and you constantly cancel boats. Being on time is a rarity for you. You collectively clearly take no pride in your work or your department.
You are a disgrace to transportation.
May you at the top who are responsible for this debacle lose your positions and all be speedily replaced.

YOU be the CAPTAIN ! ...

By David H |

...of your own destiny when you take one of the great Seattle ferries across
Puget Sound. The sights never get boring, especially when Seattle lights up
the mountains and gives you a peak at a little snow on top.
The food is better than most attractions of like nature...so have a cup of Joe on
the boat and enjoy the scenery.

Must do if in Seattle

By Brian W |

We chose to walk on the ferry and take it to Bainbridge Island. Cool little town within an easy walk from the ferry dock. If you want to take your car I'd recommend doing it on a week day to avoid some of the weekend crowd. Cool views of the sound!
