Nice place for kids to beat the heat in Reston

By John M |

Fun, but super crowded at times, which means a wait at the front gate. We enjoyed ourselves, but had to wait 40 minutes to enter, given their crowd control limitations.

Buy a Season Pass!

By AlvCD |

I have been purchasing Season Passes for my entire family every summer for the past few years. The Season Pass line is always short, or empty, which is nice because the wait time is usually a 5 minutes or less. It’s worth the price paid. If I ever communicate a concern to a manager, such as the bathrooms being messy (which is rare!), they are very quick to respond and send employees in to clean up right away. It’s a great water park!

Best Way to Spend a Hot Day

By VEC24 |

I took my 3 1/2 year old grandson here on a day when the thermometer was supposed to hit 95 degrees. We got there just after opening and easily found a lounge chair that was under some large umbrellas. We brought a large cooler of snacks and drinks which was checked before we were allowed to enter. Glass and liquor is forbidden. There is food available for purchase, but my grandson is more comfortable with the food he knows. One large family that I saw brought their own tent to set up out of the way. They were obviously going to make a full day of it.
I brought a flotation device along for my grandson, but the park has them available after you walk out of the changing area. I thought that was a nice touch.
We started off in the baby pool area which had a small slide, but soon ventured into the other areas where there were a variety of slides to fit all age groups. There were also some floating plastic animals/toys for a different kind of amusement. All of them were chained to the pool bottom so they could move around, but not far. Circling around the area is a "river" that doesn't get deeper than 4 feet. You can feel the "current" move you along, and they have flotation donuts if you just want to gently paddle along.
Every hour there is a 10 minute break signaled by the gushing water stopping. It was prime time for bathroom and snack breaks, as well as a good time to slather on more sunscreen. I didn't see any kids complaining about the break.
The lifeguards are excellent and have their jobs down pat. They each have specific areas that they are assigned to and are very vigilant about their patrols. One of them jumped in while I was there to help one of the adults. I was impressed.
The only thing that I would do differently in the future would be to bring along some swim shoes. It got awfully hot on the concrete walkways, but yet you couldn't run.
My grandson really enjoyed and exhausted himself. It was just about the easiest time I've had with him and he rewarded me with a long afternoon nap. Anytime the weather is hot, we'll be there again.

Great for kids

By IrishfFan |

Wonderful place for kids to have fun in the water - lots of slides, a great lazy river, and a few different pools. Probably good for kids up to the tween years. There are lots of attendants to keep everyone safe and the place in order which was great. It's not really cheap though (on the weekends, it's almost $15 for adults). There is food for purchase as well but we didn't eat there. Overall it's a lot of fun and I'd definitely go back.

ITs hard not to like this place - even when it is packed during the summer

By xpygy |

A great place guaranteed to keep the kids engaged for an entire day. They get you on the food, but it is still worth it.

Great Family Fun!

By Michgc |

This park is so much fun! The expanded part makes it great for all ages. There are three big waterslides that land in their own trough. And a few smaller ones that land you in the pool. There's a big lazy river with rafts or you can walk it for great exercise. There's a sprayground and slides for younger children and a a couple obstacle courses in the pool.

The lifeguards are AMAZING here! There are so many of them every few feet. And they keep their heads moving up and down and side to side. I saw a couple of them jump in if they thought anyone was in danger. They were great and made me feel like my kids were very safe under their watchful eyes.

Prices are about $16 per day per person, but sometimes you can find coupons or deals on those deal sites. The season pass is an even better deal.

We went during the week so it wasn't that crowded. We stayed 5 hours and I could have stayed longer. Loads of fun!

Great day with the Kids

By Michael B |

We love this place. Great for kids of all ages. The kids can swin, climb or do the slides. Great for the parents to just relax on the lazy river. Great staff and friendly environment. Go early to avoid long lines. And bring your own food to save time and money.

Great fun!

By DebinDC |

We've lived in the area for years but have never visited this water park. So glad we did! I would agree with other reviewers, get there early- at least 30 minutes before the park opens. The line will be long, but at least you'll access the park more quickly. The park attendants do a good job of moving the line quickly and managing the parks capacity. There are lots of seating options once inside, free lounge chairs are great but you can also bring personal chairs if preferred. There aren't too many lockers so leave valuables at home. The lazy river gets packed and getting an inner tube is a battle, patience is needed. The main pool area and slides are great fun. We didn't make it to the spray park but there were large pirate ships to play on and other activities for those who did not want to swim. We did not eat the food there, we packed a picnic, but I read the pizza was tasty. Highly recommend this place for hours of fun!

Grandkids had a great time!

By Elizabeth S |

Took our three grandkids (12, 8, 6) yesterday and had a great time. Got there at 10:30 which was a good time. I had purchased tickets online which was also helpful as our line was shorter than the one for same day ticket purchasers. Got in the park as soon as they opened at 11am and easily found chairs. There were about 650 "seats" purchased by the morning. We were able to get a locker - bring quarters! And bring extras so you can re-lock it if you want to open it during your visit (I did that to get out my phone for photos a couple of times). We brought our own cooler with lunch which was easy and saved money. Bring extra snacks for the hourly breaks when the pool is closed for 10 minutes. The pool was clean and a good temperature. Luckily the sun came out or we would have been chilly. Kids loved the big slides and lazy river and the rope crossings.

Great for a family with small children

By Maribeth B |

Yesterday, using a groupon, my Dad and I took my 8 and 3 year old kids to the Watermine. Because it is late summer, they open at 2:00pm. We go there at 1:40 and there was a long line to get in. Though they opened promptly at 2, we did not get in until 2:30.
But once inside we had a great time. The park is not very big. Don't expect Splashdown in Manassas. My 8 year old (not a great swimmer) could do everything and once we put one of the complimentary life jackets on my son he was unstoppable too.
We set up a base camp on one of the many chairs and returned at break time to rest and have a snack (you can bring in your own food and drink). There are also lockers if you are not comfortable leaving your stuff out.
I saw a sign that they are adding more slides and a splash pad for 2015. We will definitely go back. Hopefully with a group on because it was on the expensive side.

Great water park fun!

By Marc M |

2nd visit. Had a lot of fun. Came with 3 kids, age 5, 6, 8 and they all love all the different things to do.

Yes, it's annoying they make you get out of the water for 10 minutes every hour. But, when everyone gets out, easier to sell that to the kids that it's time for a break.

Water was ICE cold, and is not heated in the slightest. Prices on admission are great, not sure about food because we pack our own.

fun local water park

By Jen827 |

Visited on a Wednesday in July 2016. Arrived at 10 as they were opening and had certifikid passes. Easily transferred to wrist bands and no issues at entrance. Snagged shaded chairs - plenty. Seating area and water was generally clean, but the bathroom was gross. Toilet paper wasn't restocked, stalls were not clean and the soap dispensers - 4 of 6 were empty. And it just opened!

We attended with 5 kids from 6-9 years old and they had a blast. Felt safe letting them run around the park. MANY attentive life guards and hourly 10 minute safety breaks.

We'll be back, but I really wish they'd take care of the bathrooms. ;-(

Worthwhile and very enjoyable.

By Michael S |

This waterpark is well maintained and employs very attentive life guards. Very family oriented and almost no rough housing in the water. Relaxing for all. I took my teenage son and he loved the lazy river. The pool in the center has some bench seating in the water so you can relax while watching the little ones play. Cost for 2 was 30 dollars. We brought our cabana from home but didn't need it. Get there early to get seats under the large umbrellas for shade. I drove over 90 minutes to get here and will be back another day.

Family fun at the Water Mine Water Park

By dmlett16 |

I haven't been here in a long time. They expanded the water park with more activities for the kids. There is so much to do for the kids and the family. This is a great family environment. There is something for everyone. The water park for the kids, there is a merry-go-round, there are paddle boats, there is camping. So much to do. The water park has a lazy river, a kiddie pool area, and slides for all ages. Overall, it is worth the money if you plan on spending several hours there. You can also bring your own food and drinks.

Excellent for Summer

By John E |

Excellent place to be in Summer with family You can spend a day easily here with family. Take a walk in the Lake /Park nearby

RIP OFF

By ShamaineAbara |

I visited this water park on June 02 nd , 2018. I drove from Richmond Virgina with my two toddlers. I got to the park and paid 47.00 for my husband , myself and another family member. I got through the door I to the park and then heard on the microphone “ the park is now closed due to the weather “. This was understandable until I got to the admissions gate to now request a refund. I was now told that unfortunately they do not process refunds. I then asked to speak with a Manager whose name was Jason. At this time I explained to Jason how far I drove and that I had literally just got into the park.He then informs me that he wish to apologize but their system does not allow them anymore to process refunds. I am not only furious at this point that the custodian (s) or Operational Manager of the park could not offer a refund but then continues to inform me that he could not offer a rain check ticket at a later date since he did not have the authorization .

Clearly the park is operated by very unprofessional young people who cannot make any decisions about anything. This was VERY Disappointing for myself and my family.

Quick Visit while passing through

By Joshua R |

My girls did an area golf camp and wanted to cool off on a hot day; they chose the Water Mine; very nice retreat for a very fair price.

Nice facility but huge lines and crowds

By Elizabeth R |

Nice water park facility with fun slides, a nice lazy river, and large kiddie splash area. However, be prepared to wait in HUGE lines to get in. We had online tickets and arrived right when they opened at 11:00 and had to wait an hour in line to get in. They spend a lot of time screening everyone's bags to make sure there are were no forbidden items. By the time we got in there were no chairs and no shaded spots available. You need to arrive at least an hour before opening time if you want to get a chair. By 12:00 all of the "buy on site" tickets were sold out and people could only go in if someone else left. Some people waited 3 hours to enter.

There is very limited shade except for a handful of large umbrellas. You can bring your own chairs and shade umbrellas/tents. You can also bring your own food, but no glass containers or alcohol. I recommend doing this, since the food on site is limited (pizza, chicken nuggets, funnel cakes, over-salted pretzels) and expensive.

I don't think I'll return again - waiting in a hot line for an hour, even though we had bought tix online, was ridiculous and ruined our enjoyment of the day.

Nice family fun in Metro DC area

By Bhagwat F |

We live in Reston, and when our daughter was young, we had birthday parties, or just took visiting families for a day out to this local attraction. The features are good for every age - a fountain, lazy river, slides. There is a picnic area nearby, used to be a Carousel (don't know if it is still there). The entire area is open, with a small zoo nearby with Hay rides, many play fields around for local youth sports, a lake where boating was possible, my daughter's Girl Scout troop had a camping event there once. All in all, a very nice area to spend with young family, and the water mine is good for Pirates of all ages!

Second strike out

By Cathryn K |

On 6/22 a friend and I drove my 7-year-old granddaughter from the Philly area to the park and found it closed, opening only on weekends. So I promised her we would revisit during her July visit. Imagine my dismay when turned away at the gate at 5:30 PM-season Pass holders only night-Sorry. Could you PLEASE put up a sign when closed or having special events that exclude the public? I did not see anything specific about this on the website either. We had been looking forward to swimming and sliding all day. I really am afraid to reschedule and am disappointed in this venue.

Great Family Outing

By wendymihm |

This is a great place for a family with young kids (ours are 4 and 6) to spend one of DC's many HOT summer days. There is plenty of swimming, splashing and sliding to do (favorite = "lazy river"), the lifeguards are very strict and actually paying attention (there was a real rescue while we were there), the price is reasonable, and the water is just cool enough to be refreshing, but not cold. The only real down sides are that it's crowded (we went on Sunday July 7th) and there are not enough shade umbrellas, so you have to get there as soon as it opens to get a good spot.

Great summer activity to break up the boredom.

By momincville |

My friend and I took our 5 kids there, ages 13, 11, 11, 9, 9. They all had a great time, at least enough to stay for 6 hours, which is longer than I figured we would when we set out for the day. We felt comfortable there letting them run around together and do the slides and lazy river on their own. We placed our things under an umbrella and designated this our "meeting place" at each break. They do a 10 minute break every hour, which is a great opportunity to meet up with the kids, grab a drink or snack, use the restroom... We went on a Monday, got there just after it opened, and it wasn't overwhelmingly crowded. Plus they allow you to bring your own food and drinks in which is a real bonus!

Crowded, w/ Few Slides.

By Stacia D |

This is the only "waterpark" in the area, so it is crowded during the summer months. Not very sanitary, few slides, though they did have reconstruction last year. Lazy river, big and small slide, and a few splash areas are all they have, really. Not very satisfied with my visit, though might be a good idea for an outing with small kids :)

Clean and fun!

By CLHouston |

We went here on a week day. Arrived around 11am. It was a lot of fun for both my 4 year old and 11 year old.

The thing I like most, it is new and clean. No ants crawling and wasps hovering all over the place. I also like this place got plenty of shallow areas and activities for my 4 year old.

Yes, the breaks are frequent. My kids didn't like it. I think it is good that we meet up regularly and took some refreshment break. It keeps everyone in check. Otherwise, I might not see my 11 year old for hours.

We really enjoyed playing here.

Really good attractions and nice area

By CDuranFromVA |

They just had an expansion of the pool attractions last week so that kind of justified to me the price tag of entering which was about $15.00 per person.

Overall the water park was super nice. I went with my wife and my 9 month old son and they had pools for bigger kids, they had slides, they had a lazy river and a nice small kid section where I spent most of my time.

I definitely want to come back. The reason I only gave it a 4 was due to some similar feedback here about some of the life guards being really bossy. Not all of them were that way but more than one was.

Still though an overall great family place.

Babies poop in pool

By RestonGeri |

Nice park but 3 times they closed for an hour to clean up mess. I try not to go back. They need to disallow babies in diapers.

Fun in the sun

By Natasha L |

Had a wonderful time with the Kids we got in the lazy river which my 4 year old enjoyed the most we also got on the slides very fun place for adults and kids

Relaxing adventure for family trip

By Emily S |

We got here early and got chairs under a huge umbrella. This turned out to be a good part of getting here early. It’s just the right size to let kids roam a bit. Lots of good activities like a lazy river, obstacle course, water slides. Lots of camps go here so be prepared for some times to be really busy. Also there are safety breaks each hour.

Fun time with kids

By 2896va |

Lazy river for those of us who don't care about splashing and slipping on slides.
Can buy pizza there.
Shade hard to come by if you come when it's crowded but chairs open up pretty regularly.

Perfect for Children (Up to Age 12)

By Dabarton |

Recent reviews of the Water Mine weren't very complimentary - so perhaps weekends are not great or the park has improved. Restrooms are clean and far more importantly, guards (and there's a lot of them) actively keep an eye on all aspects of the water features. The weekday we were there, the population was initially very low - but then busloads of preschoolers from summer camps began to arrive. So arrive early and claim one of the many umbrella shaded (uncomfortable) plastic lawn chairs. If screaming children are not to your liking, consider a quiet pool elsewhere.

End of season visit

By eon345 |

Unfortunately they are only are open from 12 pm -6 pm for only a few more days. You can't book online or buy a ticket a day in advance so you have to wait in line to get in. It is a fun water park probably until age 14 I would say. Definitely more catered to younger kids. The lazy river is fun but also a little crazy with kids screaming, swimming, diving, splashing in between the floats. I can understand how stressful it is for the lifeguards to keep their eyes peeled on every single kid. Especially when they get squashed in-between the tubes. The water could be a little bit warmer especially when you have smaller kids who enjoy playing in the water until their lips turn purple.

Great fun but watch the kids

By KMNDC |

Lazy river, waterfalls, slides, pizza - what's not to like on a hot summer day. It can get packed so go on a weekday if possible - but on weekends watch the kids because it gets a bit frenetic.

Fun place

By Christopher T |

We were camping in park and enjoyed this swimming hole one day. My kids loved this place, however my 12 year old was bored after first hour. Thus the 4 star rating instead of 5. Get there early to get in line.

Great Time

By Brandy S |

A little overpriced, but a lot for the kids to do. They also have life vests you can use for free which helps keep little ones safe (not as an alternative to keeping your toddler within reach!). The kids always have a great time here.

This place used to be great and still is (thanks to new additions)

By Mrdonschaefer |

This place is great. I have been living in the Reston, VA for more than 6 years now. We hadn't been to this place in 3 years Since we had been last, they have added a few more waterslides, and with the new additions, it makes this place great for our kids 8 and 7 years old... We will be coming here again, in the 2016 summer season... good stufff!

Good day at the lake

By Nancy J |

This was a fun place to play with friends. Probably for a younger crowd. My kids are 7 and 10. The slides weren't as big as they would have liked but they had fun for a couple of hours. The spent a lot of time on the lazy river which was quite long. The slides weren't positioned well in that the water almost stopped the slide into it so you never really got wet. But it was a great way to spend a few hours in the afternoon. Absolutely hated the "break" times. The lifeguards worked hard though. They were always moving. I hope that is why, to give them a break.

Great place!!

By Sightsee442968 |

You can't beat this price for a family of 6. Look for coupons on their website. We all loved it. Best lazy river we've encountered. The staff was very friendly.

Bargain Blast

By CyndieSue2499 |

Our little threesome of a five year old granddaughter and her active grandparents enjoyed every minute of our day. There's plenty of room for everyone in the water with minimal waits at the slides and for tube in the circling pool. Lifeguards are visible every 20 feet to keep areas safe.

The park is better suited to small fry. Teens need more room and deeper water; their natural strength and size overwhelm the crowds of littler kids splashing happily everywhere you look.

Free floaty jackets are available as needed.

Arrive early to secure a seat under the large canopies. Bring your own snacks or purchase food from the vendors.

The park is meticulously clean.

Something for everyone

By Brisa D |

Great local water park. Easily accessible, free parking, and can bring your own food. Felt pretty safe with plenty of proactive lifeguards. Can get busy fast so come early for best selection of seating and shade (trees and large umbrellas). We learned that only certain coast-guard approved PFD's are permitted so while our water wings didn't make the cut, there are plenty of [free] life jackets available for swimmers.

Our favorites were the lazy river (which has a nice current to keep you moving) as well as all the plumes, buckets and sprays everywhere. Only complaints: not enough lockers with keys and very slow-moving food/drink line.

Awesome place for whole family

By pearljam_49 |

2 year in a row, we had as much fun as the kids. Great park!

Perfect family day out

By Mabel |

Great family day with our teen son and our Grandson with our Eldest daughter.
We loved the environment: family oriented, no ruckus. Facilities are Clean and life guards are very attentive. The pool policy is to have a 10-15 min break every hour, which works out great for breaks for lunch, snacks and bathroom breaks. Food stand is standard, we loved the Italian ice! They offer Cabanas for more privacy (affordable). Swimming areas are fun and interactive for both age groups. The reviews are on pretty accurate! We will visit again!!

Great water park!

By QuickWhitTravel |

This os a really great water park, and an unexpected find for me. They have several slides and a large area to swim or just relax in the water. I plan to go back!

Started out ok. Might have just been a bad day

By Kilizen |

I took my 6 and 11 year old boys on a Tuesday. It was 42 for three of us to get in. First the good. There was plenty of seating, there was more than enough life guards, and the water seemed pretty clean for a water park in the beginning. Now the not so good. The water got kinda dirty quick, not nasty, but you could see things floating in it. They called a 10 minute break at 1150, then again at 1250, then at 140 they said the pool was, "closed due to circumstances beyond their control." They were going to reopen at 2 but we left. The boys were ready but for me, them not giving any explanation of "circumstances beyond out control" seemed kind of shady. Everyone I asked said they did not know or could not tell me. Look if someone pooped just say it's poop. It happens. I would say this place is good for kids younger than teens. I think they would get bored.

Astonishing (esp. crowd control)

By SoCalNative1946 |

This place is gigantic and it can absorb maybe 1,000 people!
Getting in takes time, as the queue can be long and the process at the window slow.
Once inside you will be amazed at the choices of what to do in the water and where to sit when you are out. There is certainly something for everyone here.

Wonderful Day with the Kids!

By Burt H |

Spent the day with our grandchildren, 13 and 7 at the Water Mine. The facility is very well maintained and there's a real focus on safety. It was wonderful! We could relax while they played and swam. What a great experience. We stayed all day!

Very clean and fun

By Zezekhalil |

My kids and I went for the first time today and it was more than what we had expected. The pool was very clean and almost every hour the lifeguards would announce us all to get out of the pool for a few minutes just to double check on the cleanliness etc and assured parents to take their kids to the restrooms just for the overall safety of the guests. The place was very clean ,organized, and life guards were always alert. The food was delicious too. Bathrooms weren’t that bad but I obviously expected it. Great for all ages but mostly for kids since it’s a small waterpark.

Great fun- great place

By Peter D |

We took our grandchildren here (ages three and five) and they had great fun in a very safe, clean and friendly environment.
They greatly enjoyed the lazy river, the slide Big Pete, and all the water creatures to climb on.
From our point of view, the fact that there were so many vigilant life guards meant that we could relax and enjoy our time there too.
The facilities were clean and well cared for, and the snack bar was adequate.
Definitely a good family day out.

Great place for younger kids

By RustyinReston |

This place is special as it caters to smaller and younger children. Not much here of interest for teens but great for the younger set. It is clean and well staffed. It does get crowded on nice days.

Fun for the kids, but be prepared to wait

By Abc123XYZ3 |

The Water Mine has a lazy river, a toddler pool area, and an area with slides for bigger kids. We have been to the Water Mine several times over the years because the kids have a great time there. However, each time we have gone the line to get into the Water Mine has been very long. On our most recent visit in July, we arrived right before the Water Mine opened at 10am and joined the long line of people who had arrived even earlier than that. Our wait time was about 40 minutes to get in as the Water Mine was already reaching capacity. On a prior visit we had arrived around 1pm in the afternoon and our wait time was over an hour. So it seems you can expect a wait on most days, but coming first thing in the morning works better. Also, if you are a season pass holder (which we are not) you can by-pass the regular line and get in much quicker.

It is a GREAT place

By parcoria |

It is super fun. It is amazing. There are so many cool things. The water is warm and clear and the slides are really fun. Wear your goggles or your eyes will get red.

Great waterpark

By Sahlang |

We had a wonderful time at the waterpark!! My kids (7,6,3yrs old) enjoyed the lazy river and slides. The lifeguards were stationed everywhere and I was very at eased when my older two went off on their own. Of course, not too far from me or from my view. It wasn't too crowded when we went. We would go again!

Decent local waterpark

By GlobeTrottingMommy |

This is a decent local water park that will keep you and your kids busy for a day. It is, however, very expensive, particularly when compared to the pass for the entire season for Reston pools.

By beth m |

My first time and I brought my 22 month old, 4 year old, and 6 year old. My 6 year old was able to access all areas of the waterpark. My 4 year old (who is still learning to swim) was able to access 80 to 85% of the park.

Regardless, there was something to do for all my kids and they had a blast! We stayed for a whopping 6 hours!

There are a ton of lifeguards and they are very attentive....always moving around and looking within the pool.

The pool grounds are very clean...which is impressive especially with so many people.

My two recommendations are go when the pool opens so you are guaranteed to get in, and bring your own food...snacks...drinks. There was only one food truck (pizza the day we went) for the entire park.

Great time

By Dave L |

Have. Enjoyed coming here with family and friends. The management and lifeguard staff are certainly very helpful, friendly and informative By The Way.

Fun place!

By L-Bolek |

I took a 4-yo, a 11-yo, and a 13-yo to the Watermine, and fun was had by all. Bring your own towels, can bring in food. We did it as a double-feature, paired with Reston Zoo, which is right next door. The Watermine is open now (mid-august) from 12 noon, so we did the zoo first, then lunch, then waterpark. Spent 2 hours in the water. The kids loved it. Lots of lifeguards is a plus, but for enjoyable time with small, non-swimming children, I would recommend a 1:1 adult-to-nonswimmer ratio. They have a kiddie pool, too, but the little ones need to be supervised 100%. My 4-yo had his flotation thing on, and was able to really have a great time in the lazy river, and in all areas of the pool, with me next to him. The water is only 4' deep, at its deepest, but still too deep for him, so a flotation device, and a watchful eye from me were necessary. It was not at full capacity, since we came on a weekday, and just as they opened. We had lots of room and no lines. I bet it does get pretty crowded, though, since it is rather small. We paid about $50, for all four of us. I thought, it was well worth the money.

Not bad!

By Chalie1228 |

We went there with our 4 & 10 year-old boys. It is very small but the kids really enjoyed themselves. We spent like 5 or 6 hours there. What I liked the most is that there are so many life guards for such a small place. My kids know how to swim but it is always nice to see your kids in the safe surrounding.

Nice way to spend a hot afternoon!

By mckfly |

Great fun for kids and families. It's an excellent way to spend a hot afternoon in the summer. Not a huge flashy water park, but very enjoyable - we love the lazy river!

By lin407 |

Pros: Great lazy river and decent slides.
Cons: Can get crowded on week-ends.

Awesome water park

By Farah C |

This place is clean, friendly, not crowded (they keep it that way for safety), life guards every 10-15 feet. The snack bar area is not too expensive. I would suggest strongly purchasing a season pass or buying a groupon if the offer one this year. The line to get into the water park for general admission is usually long. I had groupons last year and we were given priority entrance after waiting 2 minutes. The water is not deep so if you have kids that are 2-3 grade, they can safely swim alone. Please keep your eyes on the ones under 4 feet.

Awesome Family Day!

By NorthernVirginiaErin |

I took my two sons (ages 6 and 8) to Water Mine yesterday as a special end of summer outing. It was my first time and my sons' second time there. We had a wonderful day! My kids are not strong swimmers but the pools are all under 4 feet deep so almost all of the slides and attractions were still accessible to them. There are also life vests available for kids to use if needed. There is a main pool with a number of smaller slides of different sizes and various features to play with. There is a lazy river around the outside and three new large slides as well. There is also a new "spray ground" area that has sections for littler kids and bigger kids. We were able to get a lounge chair under one of the large umbrellas, but also spread out towels on the grass to dry while we swam.

I was very impressed with how Water Mine is run. I was a life guard in high school and college and it is very evident that the guards here are very well trained and take their job seriously. They do enforce the rules and can be strict (as other reviewers have mentioned) but I feel this really helps keep the place safe and family friendly. I felt comfortable leaving my 8 year old in the spray ground area while my younger son and I were in the pool because the supervision was so good. They do take a safety break at 10 minutes to every hour.

We arrived about 25 minutes before the gates opened and there was a line to get in. The admissions process was smooth though. They sent an admissions staff member around to measure the kids and record how many in your party so you were prepared when you got to the gate. Despite the line we got in fairly quickly. Water Mine does reach capacity at times so it is best to plan ahead.

There is a snack bar with pizza, chicken, hot dogs, fries, ice cream, etc. but you can also bring food and drinks in. Lots of people brought picnics and coolers.

We had so much fun that we are likely to buy season passes for next summer. This is a great place!

Great Place for Little Kids

By TravelingMama19 |

We went here for a morning with two families with a total of two one-year olds and two three-year olds. All of the kids had a blast! We got there before the water park opened but still had to wait in line for about thirty minutes, so I suggest getting there early. Once we got in, there weren't many chairs left under umbrellas, but we found two all the way at the back of the park, so we set up camp there. There was a nice shallow place for the babies to enjoy and many of the other slides/activities were perfect for the toddlers. Except for the first and last hour of the day, everyone has to get out for the last ten minutes of every hour (I guess for the lifeguards to take a break?) so plan lunch accordingly if you plan on buying from the park. There was a pizza truck and also a burger/nacho/smoothie and such stand open while we were there, and we got in line at around 11:40 and didn't have to wait at all, but as soon as that whistle blew and everyone had to get out, the lines were much longer. You can bring your own food/drink in, too. Overall, the kids had a blast and the adults did too! Would definitely go back.

Great place for families!

By palmerfam |

We had a wonderful visit middle of July 2018. Arrived at 10am in the dot, line was about 15 minutes long. Went very fast. Plenty of seats and shade! Pool area very clean. Very attentive life guards, everyone is very friendly!
This is the perfect place for families! We had 3 kids here, 5, 10 & 11, they all loved it! There was plenty for everyone to do. We felt the older 2 were safe enough do they own thing. Safety breaks every hour for 10 min to rehydrate, reapply sunscreen and take the kids to the bathroom.
Not too crowded, not too big. Just perfect! Highly recommended by us!

Kids loved it

By dawitango |

The kids have enjoyed it. Excellent place to spend during summer. We weren't able to buy our tickets online. But then we wrote them email as the telephone number provided wasn't helping us either, they responded timely for our emails & told us we can come & buy tickets physically. Very helpful and understanding employees. Kids of different ages can enjoy, the lifeguards are so alert as well. & the water is clean and well taken care of.

Great family spot!

By 973Love2travel |

This is a nice waterpark to take your family. It is always clean and the lifeguards are attentive. Tip: Get there early to get a good spot, or go later in the day. There can lots of day campers there and it can get crowded very quickly! There is a good snack shop with several different food options.

Wonderful time our group had at "Water Mine Family Swimmin' Hole!"

By Susan R W |

Wow, a spectacular time had by all: Jon, Jackson, Peyton, Stephanie, Caiden & Camron + Susan! Everyone visiting the "Water Mine Family Swimmin' Hole" seem thoroughly pleased with their time spent at this venue! A great attraction in Reston, VA.

Fun for kids

By TheDeacon87 |

A fun place for small children, no doubt. But the downside is lots of germs and hordes of people at all times. Nice to do every now and then but can certainly wear the patience.

Fun time at the Swimmin' Hole but get there early!

By bunglymungly |

Went here on July 3. It's a great operation, and well run considering the huge crowd present that day. The lifeguard staff was vigilant but not overbearing. It was obvious they are well managed and take their job seriously.

Only minus is the entry system is a bit slow. Got to the Water Mine at 11 and didn't get in until 12:15. Next time, I'm getting here for 9:20 and waiting for it to open.

Despite crowds my kids had a blast and that's what's the most important.

Lots of fun!

By Gregory C |

This is a great Waterpark for young children and their accompanying adults. Lazy river, wading area, several water slides of different sizes. Exceptionally clean. The most attentive life guards I have ever seen, anywhere! They are actually fun to watch as they patrol small areas and never stop moving. And they are stationed every ten to twenty feet.

Extra bonus— you can bring in your own food and drink. Just nothing in glass.

Priced very reasonably.

Fun place to go with kids!

By tapperjoy |

This place is really for kids. There is no place for adults to swim. There is a tubing river, slides, ropes, jumping on objects in the water, kiddie pool, essentially for all levels of kids - young and old! There is food (pizza, hot dogs, fries, ice cream) available for purchase. It is more fun to bring your own picnic!

The grandkids had a blast as well as us grandparents.

By Sue L |

Took the grandkids there for the day while we were in the area. They loved playing in the water, the slides and activities involving water. We oldsters enjoyed the lazy river, just our speed. Lots of people out enjoying the water also, so arrive early for better parking and bring lots to drink as well as snacks.

Had fun but wish they had stated height restrictions on the website

By MammaD123 |

In all we did have a good time. I was a little afraid after reading some of the reviews about long lines prior to opening, not getting in and crowding. We did not run into that at all and got right in. The first thing my son wanted to do was go down the big water slide. No where on the website or stairs leading to the top was it posted that there are height restrictions to some attractions, but there are. So disappointing. I can understand having it but I had talked this place up to my son and the slides where the one thing he was looking forward to. Heck we just came home from Hershey Park and had ridden roller coasters and he couldn't slide down a water slide, really? Had I known I would not have gotten him so excited about something he ended up not being able to do.
They expect parents to be right next to their children who are under 48". Totally get it and am 100% in agreement, but did you want me to shove him back in my womb?! God forbid he LITERALLY get more than two feet away from me in 2.5 feet of water, there went the whistle.
Check out the lifeguards. They certainly have the water areas covered. Check out their crazy head bobbing. I'm not sure that they can actually see anything with their erratic head bobbing and pacing. The good thing there are enough of them so that if there was an issue, someone would be their to help.
Also, their degree of strictness of the rules changed depending on which lifeguard was covering which area. Waiting for my son to come down the smaller slide just at the rope was fine for the first 2 hours and the last hour I had to be at the foot the slide. I don't mind following rules, just don't change them through out the day.
Very easy drive from Bethesda.

Great place!

By Eileen B |

The grandkids had a ball! Easy to get to, not overly expensive, staff friendly and polite, typical park food, lots of chairs under giant umbrellas. You can bring a picnic lunsh and even your own family sized portable sun shield. Lots to do--water slides, pol with floating animals, log run, and a security gated area for toddlers (all the way in the back). You need to be 48 inches tall to go on giant slides ( but there are plebty of other slides) and need to be within an arm's reach of your adult or teen aged caretaker. Plenty of life guards who walk their little area continuously. Arrive between 10-11 AM to get chairs in shade and avoid lines, come after 1 PM and you take your chances. But after 3 PM the camps go home and chairs open up. The web site shows which days have fewer guest-- we went on a Wed. and on a Thurs, arrived about 10:30 and walked right in. They clear the pools at 50 past the hour until five after the hour to give lifeguards a break and that builds in snack breaks for your kids.
You can also picnic by the lovely lake with paddle boats and there is a carousel.

Lots of fun, always clean and safe!

By KJFamilyTravels |

We love the Water Mine and go often.

The toddler area is completely separate and gated. The lazy river is wonderful. We usually go in without tubes and let the kids doggy paddle around. They love it! The big pool has lots of slides, none of them too wild. There is a shaded area with a bench so you can sit in the water and relax. There is another roped area where the kids can climb and cross some neat water features.

Everything is always very clean. There are an impressive number of lifeguards on duty and even though they are young, they are always on point. I have never seen any of them goofing off or doing anything other than their job. Very impressive.

We love that the admission is good all day even if you leave and come back. We can get there in the morning, go home for naps, and head back in the late afternoon. Perfect for us since we have young toddlers.

We also love that we can bring food and drinks. They do have a snack bar and a pizza wagon but we've never taken advantage of them.

There are plenty of lounge chairs and about half of them are in the umbrella shade. We spend most of the time in the water so I don't mind if we don't get a chair in the shade. There is also plenty of grass area if you rather bring camping chairs or a picnic blanket. There is also plenty of room if you are bringing a stroller.

I have been stuck in a few long lines but if you get there early in the morning of after a rest break the line usually isn't too bad. At least during the week! Weekends are usually busy all day.

The admission fee is very reasonable considering the flexiblity you get. We are most definitely getting season passes next year. We've been looking for a public pool membership and the Water Mine season pass for a family of 4 will cost us HALF of any of the public pools! About halfway through the summer they put a $2 off coupon on the website so look for that!

Great time, clean park

By LauBauMtAiry |

Visited with my sis and our 4 kids, ages 6-10, and we had a great time. Arrived at 10 am on a Wed and only waited around 10-15 mins, plenty of open chairs available but most of the shaded areas taken. We squeezed in next to another family though (sorry it's crowded, share and share alike!). The park got pretty crowded by 11 with lots of camps, esp the lazy river, but the kids didn't seem to mind and the lifeguards were vigilant. The water was cold and clean.

My only complaint was the way the lines are run for the 3 larger water slides. There was a line for groups (2-3 riders) and a line for singles, which is meant to supplement the other line if there are only 2 riders. Ppl couldn't seem to grasp this and the lifeguard up top was busy sending kids down the slide. So what ended up happening was the line would alternate back and forth, with one line waiting an inordinate amount of time. Why not just have one line for all?! Oh well, we had a great time and will go back.

Kids permitted to be rowdy in river

By dicerotops |

I would have given this park 5 stars, except that the lifeguards permit kids to do most whatever they want in the lazy river. This includes swimming under tubes people are on, knocking into those people, running in the pool and hitting people on the tubes as they go past, kicking people in the tubes, splashing people, and pretty much anything they want to do.

Now I understand why other parks make everyone have a tube in the lazy river. My foot still hurts where a kid knocked into it.

So if you have a kid you want to be able to go wild in the lazy river, you'll like it. If you're an adult that just wants to be able to lay back in a tube on a lazy river, you'll be disappointed.

surprise visit!

By Elishky |

We were staying with my Sister-in-law and were looking for something to do one day. She took us to this gem! Wow, it was great! It was a little disconcerting standing in line waiting for an undetermined amount of time for there to be enough room for our group of 12. There is a limit of how many people can enter. It's best to get there early for this reason. But once inside, the kids loved it! Water slides for the older kids and adults, smaller slides for the little kids and they loved the lazy river. We rode on that over and over. Go during the week and try to find coupons for slight discounts, but even so, it's a really great experience!!

Fun weekday activity

By sakflva |

We hadn't been to the watermine in years. We showed up on a Tuesday at 11 without a line. The watermine had activities for all ages. A big slide for adults and kids. Yep smaller slides for kids then a lot of toddler slides. There is a great lazy river that runs around the park. There is a spray park with a small slide as well. There a lot of large umbrellas for shade. You can also reserve areas for lunch and parties. There are a few standard food options : pizza, hot dogs and chicken fingers. We'll come back.

Great watermark for kids!

By jabberwockies |

We have been to the Water Mine a couple of times and the kids love it! It is best for younger kids, probably 4-10 is the best age range. The water is gradually deep, starting at a few inches for the toddlers, and goes to about 3 1/2 feet deep. There are no lap pools, etc. as the entire area is set up with slides, creatures to climb on, and water sprayers. One terrific aspect of this park is that there are lifeguards about every 10 feet surrounding the play areas. They are not sitting up in chairs, half-paying attention, but they constantly walk back and forth. There are lockers, changing rooms, and of course a snack bar. They also can host parties in a reserved area. The only reason this isn't given 5 stars is partly due to price (about $15) and partly due to lack of abundant shade for those that want it (the parents). Otherwise, this place is great for kids!

Fun, kids, lazy river, picnics, and mushroom umbrellas

By mcbalboni |

This I a really fun place to go with adults and kids. It does shut down in storms and you here an enormous grown from the people enjoying themselves, but what can you do? I recommend buying season tickets early before summer starts to be cost effective. But if you are only visiting for one day, it is worth the price. (also visit the outside Zoo next door with many of the animals rescued - great for kids and birthday parties) - You can see the lake from the swimming hole, plenty of parking - and in July you used to see great fireworks but I am not sure if they are keeping that up.

We will be back.

By J&J913 |

I have 2 kids ages 13 & 16 and my sister also went. She has a 6 month old, 8 yr old and 11 yr old. All the kids had a great time. It does get crowded between 12-3 with daycares. We rented in cabana for $70 and I'm glad we did. It's hard to find tubes for the lazy river between 12-3 & we had our own bc of our cabana rental. My suggestion is to take ur own food because a whole pizza w/ 8 slices will run you $24 😱.

Good for families with elementary or middle school kids

By Mike S |

Can become very crowded in summer. Lots of fun slides and over water rope challenges. Good slides and a lazy river for chillin. High school age kids can become bored or find there are too many little ones "in the way".

Nightmare

By dhcurry1 |

Got there when the park opened and had to wait in line for 2 hours! Finally got within 4 people from the window and they closed the park. One person said it was at capacity, then there was a pH problem? No one ever made an announcement!! Finally people started streaming out loomingangry so we left. Ugh...

Terrific Place

By nodan7 |

We visited today and found it to be absolutely wonderful! Our granddaughters at ages 8 and 14 both loved it! The place offers attractions and fun for all children ages three and up. Spotlessly clean with huge umbrellas for shade. Lots of lounge chairs under the umbrellas or on the grassy areas covered by trees. We were there for five hours and enjoyed every moment. The concession stand are priced fair with a slice of pizza st $3.50. Hot dogs and chicken fingers also priced fairly. Lots of food choices. We highly recommend this place and will be back!

If you like the swim in puke..

By travelingtrio03 |

I really don’t like to write negative reviews but, someone vomited copious amounts in front of us. We told the lifeguards (and a guard witnessed it), and they did nothing other than hold their fists up. We also told the office, who said “well look into it”. We left due to this, appalled that there was no concern regarding the sanitation of the pool & lazy river. Also, the bathrooms were filthy with feminine products laying on the ground, unkept stalls. Can’t think of an easier way to spread illness, infection, etc. We likely won’t return which is a shame because, we have enjoyed this in the past.

Really crowded even in midweek, but a great experience!

By globetrottheworld |

The parking for this place is just a lot of gravelly space, not covered. This can be a problem if you are late, as the weather has been hot and that walk to the main gate under a scorching sun is felt!

The line was short for us, as the place was almost all full! We paid, went through the changing rooms (compulsory entry path) and struggled to find a single chair or space under shade/umbrellas. Found one and parked all our stuff there and over the afternoon built up more with scavenged singles here and there :-)

The activities are all water related and there is a good variety, it will suit all ages. Ideally you have some kids with you - safety is taken care of and the various slides, lazy river, waterfalls, bid dunkin' buckets etc etc are good.

We did not eat as we brought our own snacks, food and drinks, but there were places there that looked decent.

The only downside is that they should set a limit on people coming in or more organized places to lounge etc. Parking could do with any kind of cover/shade and the entrance should be somewhere in the middle not on one extreme side of parking lot.

The water did not feel unclean or smelly or sticky or even heavily smell of chlorine, which I was expecting. In fact for such a crows using it, it was great!

Anyway, those are very small issues - the place is nearly 5*.

Very popular place

By Voyager0021 |

We went on a weekend and this place was mobbed! We arrived about 9:45 prior to opening and the line to get in was already half way to the parking lot! We waited almost an hour and finally got in at about 10:40. Waiting on line with a 5 year old was hard! So many people there. The line was filled mostly with people's stuff, not necessarily people. They had bags upon bags and coolers and 35 packs of bottled water. It was crazy! Like they had enough stuff to check in for a week!!

Anyways finally got in and was good for the first while. Then it just got really congested and crowded for the rest of the time. We had a good time but man was it crowded.

Also so many people not listening. I wish I had a penny for every time the lifeguards yelled at people for running, going on shoulders, etc. on the plus side, they are very well staffed...plenty of lifeguards actively scanning the pool. Rare to see that nowadays!

They have food also. Standard snack bar stuff and pizza and ices truck. You can bring food in also.

There is shade but most of it is reserved so hard to get. Even if you do, it is very crammed cause everyone wants shade. Several trees also. I bring my own large sport umbrella so I don't have to deal with all that!! Grabbed 2 chairs and set up shop in between the big shade umbrellas in the sun where nobody was. Highly recommend bringing your own shade!!

All in all very good but crowded. Lots of safety breaks every hour but they are short. Good opportunity to reapply sunblock without the kids thinking they are missing something!

Nice, clean, good fun

By Knc510 |

The Water Mine is located within Lake Fairfax park which is located in a fairly ritzy area of Northern VA. If I was looking for a campground outside of DC, this is where I would come. The Water Mine is fairly cheap (print out the coupon on the FX Co website) and maintained by the county, which in Fairfax County means strictly following health and safety guidelines. Bathrooms are clean and the pools are nice and clean. There are lockers outside the bathroom which are handy. You will have to wait in line. I suggest getting there around 9:30 am if it's a nice day. Once you get in the park, do not dilly dally- go right for the lounge chairs under the umbrellas. Stake out your spot and then put your valuables in the locker and then have fun. There is a small pool for the little ones with a squirter and a zero entry area to the bigger pool with an umbrella feature spraying water. Can't comment on the food- we have always brought a picnic which saves some cash.

Great place for kids!

By Diane P |

This is a fun waterpark for kids. There are areas of it geared for little kids with little slides, and bigger slides and deeper pools for bigger kids. Teens have fun here as well. The best part for adults is the lazy river where you float on tubes around a huge circle with a current pushing you along.

You can bring your own food in and make a picnic. We selected a base area under one of the huge umbrellas to meet at during the breaks.

The lifeguards are fantastic and very attentive, helpful and very well-trained.

Good for young childeren

By nothinggreen |

Used a Groupon to spend the day at the Water Mine. Wasn't crowded. The kids, 5 and 3, had a great time in the lazy river, on the slides and on the objects (snake, beaver, horse, log, raft etc.) in the pool. The changing rooms are clean, but lockers would be nice for secure storage. You can take food into the park or purchase onsite.

They have a mandatory 10 minute break every hour. However, it seemed that the staff was able to use the lazy river during this time, which made it hard to explain every hour why there were still people in the lazy river when my kids had to get out.

By Irishprl03 |

I don't know how they bob their heads up and down all day but it's pretty funny! They are the best lifeguards! Kids are safe for sure!! They break every hour for 10 min but it's not that bad because it gets your kids out without a fight and then you can have them use the bathroom or eat. You can pack a lunch and bring it in the park and there is plenty of places to sit and eat. Get there early so you don't have to stand in line to get in. Once inside there's no lines for the slides. Very clean as well!

Kids Love This Place

By LTRedford |

A lot of fun for the kids and a lazy river available for the adults to swim in. Very attentive lifeguard staff keeping the crowd safe. However, the comes with a constant drone of whistles and fake kids being thrown into the pool to test the lifeguard reaction. It gets a bit obnoxious but the place is still fun.

Great place for locals, season pass is the way to go!

By Eric M |

We have been getting the season pass for years, it is a bargain compared to local pools and swim clubs and gets you a shorter line, season pass only night on weds, and the convenience to go anytime even for a few hours. it pays for itself in 3 visits typically, and with the lazy river, slides galour and many other things to do, it is a lot of fun even for my kids now 7,9,13. restrooms at entrance are not so great, but in the back of the park are clean(er) restrooms that you can use. Getting a chair can be a hassel arriving mid day, but if you show up near opening the season pass line gets you some chairs. Pack a picnic, food and beverages allowed (no alcohol) so you can bring in food you like and enjoy time with the family during the hourly breaks.

Great Day!

By Beckie M |

It was super easy to get to off the toll road or via Route 7. Easy to get in with no line and great open parking area. Added updates of splash park and huge water slides made this an excellent trip for my 7 year old niece.

Lots of fun for everyone.

Great afternoon with the kids.
Love the fact they have picnic tables on site. We bring our own snacks and water, no need to buy food on site if you don't want to.

This is a favoriate of my kids. They love the slides and the lazy river.

Well run and lots of fun.

By Susan ESL teacher |

We have taken two young children for three years now and always have a great time. There is lots to do and safety is a big concern with a break every hour to clear the pool and help the kids wind down and snack.

A fun place!

By Jennifer R |

I took my 3.5 year old son here today and we had a good time. We arrived around 10:15am, and despite it opening at 10am, there was already a huge line to get in. If you want to go on a weekend, I recommend getting there around 9:30 or 9:45am so that you can make sure you are one of the first in line. It took us about 15 minutes to get into the park, and once we got in, most of the lawn chairs were taken, but we were able to snag one to throw our stuff on and with plenty of grassy area, it was easy enough to just sit on the grass when we wanted a break. They only had one family restroom/changing room, but we never had any issues getting in and using it. In between the locker rooms are also small lockers and for .25 you can lock up your valuables. One of the perks of this park is that you can take in a cooler as long as it doesn't contain glass or alcohol, so we packed a cooler with lunch and snacks which was briefly checked before we entered the park. I'm not sure how food prices are at their small stand since we packed our own lunch, but it looked like many people were grabbing snacks from there. As for the pool area, there are a ton of lifeguards on duty and they are very attentive. Every hour they clear the pool for 10 minutes, which is a good time to go to the bathroom or grab a snack. I also like that they have life vests available for children from 30-50 lbs outside of the locker rooms and you can grab one for free and put it on your little ones if they aren't quite a good swimmer. The lazy river was nice and though you often had to wait for a tube, it was never terribly long. They had a separate area for very little ones, then the main area with slides (some my son was comfortable with on his own, others he went on with dad), and then the lazy river. They also had signs up showing that they are expanding the park by summer 2015 to include a bigger splash pad for younger kids, as well as several big slides for bigger kids and grownups. Overall it was well worth the $40 we paid for 2 adults and one child (under 2 are free, and coupons are available to use during week days only), and we will gladly go back next year!

Fun at Water Mine!!

By dustytraveler57 |

Great time on each visit, something for everyone!! Love the water slides and the lazy river. Recommend taking own food to save money.

"it changed"

By Hannah S |

i use to go there as a kid, but now its a complete rip off. Its very expensive for a full day. There are way too many kids that take a "dump" in the pool everyday from this, They always close the pool, and when they do, its for at least 2 hours. They have older teenage lifeguards that don't notice much that goes on. There are never enough shaded or just plain seats, you have to sit on the dirty grass and get sunburned to death. There are always swarmed bugs that follow you everywhere you go, and the little pizza shop they have there ALWAYS runs out of supplies, like smoothies and even just plain pizza.

Great Family Fun

By Susan A. |

Wonderful large waterpark. Took the grandkids and was impressed for the first time. Parking is not a problem but the bathrooms could use some remodeling and cleaning. The entire waterpark area was very nice, clean and well staffed with attentive lifeguards. Defintely, bring your own frozen waterbottles and some food to cut costs and use groupon to get a better deal on admission but the trip is worth it to this waterpark. Thong bathsuits should not be allowed at all or ones that show the female butt cheek on teens and adult females. Not acceptable at all so attire might want to be checked and tell these certain females who enter to cover it up!! There is no grill, barbeque eatery or deli to enjoy on site but expensive pizza so I recommend bringing your own food to eat unless the waterpark changes it up for next year.
Otherwise, this is a great place to take the kids and family.

Lifeguards need to learn to be polite

By Danielle M |

First, I wanted to say that I was generous with my rating.
In years past, I never really found any issues with the park (Well, I have but not worth complaining about). This year however, the lifeguards could not possibly have been more rude. If they are trained that way then that is a shame! They bark orders like a drill sergeant, never once uttering the word please. I can see if they are dealing with children who won't listen but, they are rude and abrasive with everyone. I also get that their job is a serious by nature however, there is a better way to communicate to people. I would love the opportunity to discuss the issue with the park supervisor!

Great value water park

By lpagel |

Got a deal from CertifiKid for 2 admissions for $20. Took the kids and enjoyed a fun summer afternoon. My 12yo had so much fun he wants to go back again tomorrow!

Pros:
*Large locker room with plenty of toilet stalks, changing stalks, and showers
*No shortage of chairs (lots of chairs and space!)
*You can bring in food and drinks (just no glass or alcohol)
*Water fun for every age, especially toddler-middle schooler
*Lifeguards/staff everywhere!

Cons:
*Park is not really near any restaurants for pre/post dining (although they do sell food there)
*No curtains in the showers or hooks to hang your towel/suit
*No wave pool

great place for the summer

By Jesse T |

It can get a bit crowded, but it is a great place to take the kids during the summer.

It is fun for most ages of young kids. Try to get there early on busy days to get a good spot at the side of the pool.

First timers to know...

By CoCoMocha |

Arrived 10minutes before opening and about 75 pp ahead of us but line goes fast- bags are inspected for glass. Locker rooms have showers, changing rooms, lockers and plenty of vanity space. FOOD - overpriced and fair quality. $10 for 3 chic tenders (very processed) and fries. Can of soda $2.25. Other items are typical nachos,
Hot pretzels, ice cream. Bring your own food and drink. Wish they had music playing throughout the park. SO.MANY.Lifeguards and they have quite a unique method of gaurding - It was very safe and even have a few security guards on premises. My tween and teen had a fun day but slides are less thrilling than other parks. The lazy river is nice but when it’s crowded they run out of tubes. Overall nice clean family pool.
would recommend it.

By Pam L |

OUr grandchildren loved visiting there when they were younger to play on the slides, picnic, ride the Merry go round, canoe, swim and more.

Always a fun day for the kids

By aldots |

We are locals who visit here a few times each summer. The kids (ages 2-6) always enjoy it. It's a nice size, clean, convenient, fun and relatively inexpensive. The downside is that it can get quite crowded at peak hours, so you need to arrive about 15-20 minutes before open or later in the day. Lifeguards are EXTREMELY attentive and seem to keep the place running well.

Fantastic time!

Even better day spent here than I expected! We chose this park because we wanted water slides & Busch Gardens would've cost $240+ just for admission. We paid $41 for admission for three people. There is something for all ages from toddler to adult--water slides of all sizes and a great lazy river. There's also a huge water play structure with various fountains & water sprays. A huge pool in the middle...it was so much fun even for the adults!

The best part of this water park are the staff--- VERY helpful & attentive lifeguard staff are everywhere & they are excellent in keeping all the kids & chaos intact. I was extremely impressed! We will definitely go back!

Fun, but crowded

By Julia C |

The Water mine is clean and a nice neighborhood water park, especially for very young children. However, it is very crowded on weekends and Holidays. There is a long wait outside of the facility because it fills to capacity, which is difficult for the young children who enjoy it the most.
We also experienced the shut downs mentioned by other users. That tries your patience after waiting for a long time to get in. The Water mine is used by summer camps for excursions and that seems to work better since they go during the week.

Awesome family day out!!

By Charlotte J |

This is a great sized waterpark although can get very busy. Waiting for the rings at the lazy river was a little chaotic but we soon learnt that the other entrances/exits were easier. There is lots of stuff to do here and it is very safe with lifeguards every few meters apart. We have an 18m daughter and she really enjoyed herself with so many small slides to chose from and the water buckets tipping over. Only bad thing is the state of the bathrooms at closing time - Disgusting!!!
That isn't necessarily the parks fault, I'm more disgusted in the general public having the nerve to be so inconsiderate and GROSS!
However, we had a fantastic day out at Water Mine and the staff were very helpful and friendly.

Things to fix at watermine park

By Amy A |

It (could be) a nice park, with lots of things for kids to do, but it may not be worth the money (it's expensive). And oh the problems: (1) They don't have enough swim vests for little kids!!!! And who mostly goes to this park? Little kids. We paid almost $100 for our family to go and we couldn't get swim vests for the 3 and 5 year olds. The little kids can't go in the pool without them. They have lots of vests for young adults--who, by the way, don't need them. The manager of that park should have taken care of this problem a long time ago (this has been a problem for the past few years); (2) the slides are showing their age, especially the smaller ones, several of which had paint peeling off in big flaps in areas the kids were sliding down. (3) the bathrooms/changing areas are dirty and not maintained; one sink had water pouring out of it all day long. Fix these things and we'll come back.

My teenagers still love this place

By CBNtraveler |

This pool is like a small amusement or water park. My kids couldn't get enough of this place when they were younger; they loved the water slides and the buckets. Now that they're teenagers, they can spend endless hours in the lazy river.

There is food on the premises, however you can bring your own food and eat in the designated area.

It can get a bit pricey if you go often enough, so season passes are a good investment.

great place

We were visiting Washington and wanted just to relax after city trip. This is not far away from the city. Is well organized. we all enjoyed it very much!

Just the toilets could be more clean

Pleasantly surprised

The lifeguards here are extremely attentive and alert. If you don't feel safe here, you won't feel safe anywhere. All the staff seemed very friendly and helpful. Decent snack bar offering burgers, dogs, fries, nachos, fresh lemonade (excellent!), Italian ice, ice cream, etc. there's also a pizza truck and shaved ice (the Italian ice from snack bar is better). We got a cabana for 8 people, and it really improved the experience. Cabanas have a table, seating and rafts for 8, and are located near the family restrooms. There are 7 family restrooms that appear to be fairly new construction and are kept clean. The only drawback was the cabanas are on the opposite end of the park from the food, but it's still better to have the cabana. As with any public, non-resort type place there's the hoi polloi, but somehow this group at least managed to avoid doing #2 in the Lazy River unlike some larger, more popular VA water parks where it seems to happen regularly.

fantastic

the staff are helpful and nice. kid can have a lot of fun and adults can relax. the only bad part is there's not enough water slides.

Lots for Kids at The Waterline

By Tim B |

If you're a kid or a kid at heart the Watermine is a 'don't miss' location. Great water slides, a lazy river in a rustic location.

Be prepared to wait

By cherylo280 |

Great place to cool off on hot summer days! They are adding bigger slides (should be open in late July 2015 to August 2015).

If you don't get there early? You might have to wait in line.

Geared more towards younger kids - however - teenagers can still have fun!

You can bring your own food in or you can buy something there from the burger stand or a pizza truck.

Fun for all

Family has visited several times. We always go back because we enjoy it so much. Great lazy river and water slides. We are able to let our 7-9 year olds roam on their own because it isn’t a giant size place. We enjoy renting a cabana when we go but there’s plenty of free shaded area with huge umbrellas and lots of chairs. Can bring your own food and drinks too

Great family fun, but expensive for what you get

By rlstites |

We live near the park but rarely go because it is so expensive and we have access to Reston pools. Yet it can be fun to go once in the summer. Watch for special coupon discounts that may be available.

GREAT SUMMER FUN FOR THE KIDS

By Monique M |

took my 8 year old and his best friend to the watermine last weekend and they had a BLAST. I enjoyed the set up as we were able to get seating in the shade under a canopy area just along the lazy river. Food was pretty good too. we will definitely be back

Overkill rules kill the fun and 15 min breaks every hour

By AmericanMcCouple |

Too tight with ridiculous stringency of rules and enforcement. They went haywire with the spray paint all over the pavement "do not block" and then with the rules "do not sit" "do not this" "do not that." You can only enter and exit any water at designated entry areas and life guards do that blinders march up and down the line. Also they take breaks every hour for 10 mins (but works out to 15) which means everyone has to get out the water and sit and do nothing. Also unjustified 48" height rule. U can do nothing alone if have a child less than 48", you must accimpany them everywhere, even the 1.5 foot area. Go to splashdown in manassas ir elsewhere to have fun.

Its the limit your fun waterpark.

Awesome water park, perfect for young children.

By Helena H |

Loved this water park! Looked up the night before and planned our route from other side of DC.
Very reasonable entrance cost for a family day out and free parking too. Took two children 10 and 8 who thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Great slides, water features and lazy river that are fun to ride and play. No water depth is over 4ft which is brilliant for small children.
The life guards here are the best and most 'on it' I have ever seen. You feel so safe here, they really are experts at their job and extremely vigilant at all times.
Food and drinks are reasonably priced and portions are big - we all shared a couple of meals.
Loved 'Big Pete' and 'Little Pete' - really great slides! Get there early as it gets busy in the early afternoon.
If I was in the area again, I would definitely visit here. Brilliant day filled with laughs and lots of family fun!

Great family waterpark!

By Cr0ssC0untryTraveler |

This is a really nice waterpark, especially for families with kids middle school age and younger. We went on a Sunday the first week in July, arrived right at 10 AM when it opened. It took about 30 minutes to get in, which wasn't bad considering how long the line was. We got one of the last shaded spots under one of the big umbrellas. It was at capacity by noon I think. Even though it was at capacity, it was still easy to swim in the pool and lazy river, and the lines for the slides were well managed. There were lots of life guards and they were very professional and alert. Most people brought their own food for lunch, but there is food and snacks like ice cream available to purchase. Would definitely recommend this place for a family day at the pool.

Nice Family Day Out

By slbnivens |

Its nice. but small..
I had 2 teenagers and a 5 year old. They had a blast.. It gets crowded on the weekends. .so beware Other than that a great day at the waterpark..

Nice place to take the kids!

By Tiffany L |

I love the Water Mine. I do wish it were a little less expensive. They don't have much room, so you have to get there early to have a seat. It's extremely crowded, so be ready to be close to LOTS of people.

Doggy Swim Time

By dreamergirl4686 |

I am not sure how this water park is for humans but at the end of the year they open it up for the dogs. It was a great time and my dog enjoyed himself. It was more enjoyable that just a normal swimming hole since they had some of the water features turned on.

Fun Fun Fun.

By Saloua R |

Kids had such a great time last month at the Water Mine Family Swimming Hole. It's a great place for all ages. Small slides for little ones and bigger ones for older kids. The lazy river is fun too. We all ride in it as a family :) They also have free vests. So the little ones are safe with them. Very clean and staff is very nice.

awesome place for all ages!

By soitgoes23 |

loved that you could bring food and camp out all day. season pass holders can skip the line -- it might be worth it to buy the season pass which is about 50-60 bucks. the line gets ridiculously long. they have vendors that sell a whole pizza and chicken tenders with fries which were yummy. we saw others get pizza delivered! the slides are awesome. they have several slides that cater to different ages, there really is a lot for babies-toddlers to do. I love the lazy river too! my only complaint is that there needs to be more tubes

Great Fun

By BabyDawn |

What we liked:
-this park has an area for every child and enough activities for the family. They have water sprinklers galore and playful water buckets; large slides for bigger kids, medium for somewhat younger, and tiny slides for toddlers; a water obstacle course; a volleyball net and a lazy river.
-they are well staffed, and every staff member I encounter was very kind.
-they have two first aid stations. We had to utilize one because my son likes to keeps his eyes open under the water ALL THE TIME! They became very uncomfortable and he needed some eye drops. They were super supportive and talked to him directly making him know they wanted to help.

What we didn't like:
-the bathroom! Although it is roomy and has enough changing rooms and bathroom stalls, it need attention. First, there's only one changing table in the entire ladies room and it's inside a dressing room. And I'm certain it has not seen a Clorox wipe all summer long! It was NASTY!! See the photo. When we getting changed to leave the stall was locked with no one inside. I had to change the baby on a open bench. Speaking of benches, there are no benches in the changing rooms. It's you, three walls and a door with a hook.
-the parking lot was not thought out. You drive on grave but park on the grass. And the entrance to the park is on one end and parking begins about 50 beyond that mark and then only goes on one direction. Most places I've been is the parking lot is the same width on each side. It was crazy weird.
-the lazy river. Now this is often most people's favorite activity. This was in no way a "lazy" river (I think they call it Rattlesnake River). There are not enough tubes for everyone. It's about one tube to every 2-3 people. (I cannot imagine was a super busy day's ratio would be like.) Most individuals walk, run, swim, kick, splash, or rough house in the lazy river. And people crowd at the entryway near the entrance making it difficult for other folks to get through.

Overview:
Our family went on a Monday afternoon. Beside my husband and myself, we also had our 9 and 7 year old boys and a four month old. We enjoyed the variety of activities offered. My older boys loved all the slides available, lazy river, obstacle course, and water sprayer areas. Overall it was a good time for everyone. I took away one "circle" because of the bathroom and the lack of control of the lazy river.

Excellent for young kids.

By Unhappy_customer15 |

Very appealing to young kids during the summer.
Because of its popularity, it tends to get overcrowded. If you go late in the morning, you may have to wait for a long time outside before you can be allowed to enter.
