We always go in early fall so the beach is not crowded. Nice views and this year we actually saw a seal come up on the beach! It was very cool as the seal seemed more than happy to have his picture taken

Here's a photo of Wells Beach at the start of Memorial Day Weekend. The weather was still cool (70s) and the water was freezing, but the seafood shack was open and there was a lot of beach to walk as the tide was going out.

Such a beautiful place. Stunning views and so relaxing to take a nice walk on the beach. We have been here in the summer and the winter and it is beautiful. You may even be lucky enough to score a parking spot in the lot! You can't beat the coast of Maine!

Easy parking. Benches above the beach to relax. Nearby shops and places for food. I need 20 more characters...so the beach has water there.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time spent at Wells Beach. Some of the parking lots can be overcrowded so go early.

Beach area is beautiful. Simply breathtaking. Great for families. Parking is good but a little pricey

Took a walk on the beach at low tide. It was very clean and very relaxing. Had an ice cream cone to finish the afternoon.

I stopped by to check it out during a road trip down the coast. It was high tide, so there wasn't much beach. The water was a pretty teal green, though, and the seagulls looked content. It was pretty quiet, but that'll change when the tourists return.

Peaceful. Everyone respected social distancing. Sand was surprisingly soft. We stayed at an oceanfront hotel however it appears that there was parking across the street (not sure how quickly it fills or how many spots are available to begin with). Walking distance to cute little town with shops.

Always has been a favorite of mine. Parking is free and a great place if you want to walk the beach.

The first time I went to the beach I didn’t like it only because I had went to the wrong part!!!! If you type wells Beach into your gps it takes you to the wrong part- by all the hotels and take out restaurants- don’t park there! Make a left when you’re there into Atlantic Ave and take that all the way down- at the very end you’ll see a big public parking lot ($4/hr meter) and a separate beach entrance- the beach is gorgeous!!! Big and long , there are restrooms but there is no food/drinks nearby so pack your own. Beautiful beach!! If you park in the wrong place it’s a smaller beach, has rocks, and has big steps to go down- if you go down those steps you’re in the wrong place. The actual beach is gorgeous and has no steps to enter.

This beach is beautiful no matter when you go.We like to go in the off season and it is clean and the waters look pristine. Walking along the beach, even when it is cool, is very relaxing. It's the first place I like to hit when I arrive in Wells.

We went to Wells in June to avoid the July crowd. Excellent idea, and we had very nice walks early morning with the dog.

Not as nice as other beaches in Maine but nonetheless swimmable with lots of sandy area to sit. There are also parking for free in the surrounding areas.

We enjoy coming here in the evening sitting on a bench and watching the ocean waves...very peaceful.

Absolutely love returning to Wells Beach with my family this year. My birthday wish...granted. We visited in late May before Memorial Day weekend...what a great time to go. Warm sunny weather, no crowds...perfect. Love this peaceful, beautiful place...got up everyday to see the sunrise, too.

Wells Beach is a long and beautiful one, especially at low tide. It's one of the most popular seaside destinations in Maine, if not New England, because there are so many natural and tourist attractions in the area. We stopped to take a few pictures of the beach at sunset.

I love coming to wells! The beach is nice but when the tide is high it’s all the way to the wall and there is no beach. There is a snack shack and bathrooms. There is not a ton of parking but you can take the trolly from hannafords.

Wells Beach is great to drive by and watch the waves for a while. We had a picnic on the sand and found it to be comfortable and relaxing. Personally I enjoy Short Sands Beach more because of the local attractions. Ogunquit has a better beach as well. Ogunquit has a quaint village feel which makes going to the beach a full day event, from swimming to shopping to having dinner with a view.

We stopped by last weekend for a brief visit. The parking attendants were chatty and helpful. We had a great time walking along the beach. There is plenty of parking as well as a public bathroom at the Drakes Island beach.

the beach was awesome . the access was embarrassing, almost criminal this day and age.Forget handicap friendly, if you have small kids and gear to carry, which most everyone does it's a hazard to navigate the steep stairs and rock platform below.

Super busy in the summer but off season it’s perfect!! Great to walk some parts are super rocky but it is a gorgeous beach! One of our favorites!

Still the best kept summer beach secret. Most summer days in Wells are in the 80's (if it's not raining). The crowds are nonexistent compared to most beaches worldwide. A laidback and small town atmosphere only enhance the summer beach going scene. Pets are allowed during certain times. Now don't post this or tell anyone. Otherwise, Wells will soon look like the Atlantic Boardwalk.

A visit this March was great fun-very few visitors, just surf, seagulls, lots of clam shells. Brisk northwest breeze, but temperatures were moderate...long walks along the curving beach, listening to the tide rolling in....

Nice firm sand beach for walking. We've spent a lot of time here over the years and it's like visiting an old friend when we just returned after 11nyears!

Very nice beach , clean and pet friendly. Rocks at the beginning good place to look for shells. Dog poop bag station on the beach . Benches to sit on if you prefer to just watch and not get your feet sandy.

We were only here for one night but were surprised to find out at checkin that you can't just drive to the beach and park. You either take the trolley at $2 per person or pay $30 for the parking lot! We just wanted to go down for a walk after a 4:00 checkin. That didn't seem worth the $30 or even $16 it would have cost our family of four for round trip fare. We waited till after 6 when the parking is free (although when we got there it looked like the parking lot was free after 4pm! The beach is very pretty with gorgeous views, but still not worth the cost if we were vacationing here for more than 2 days. We were also not sure if the "nude beach" signs pointing to the left were a joke or for real.

Lots of rock, little sand. On a hot summer day this would be fine. Otherwise, a quick photo shoot and move on.

Wells Beach has been a favorite place of mine for many years. They keep it up pretty well. Would live there if I had a chance to move there.

Very nice beach, lots of tide pools for the kids. Bathrooms near by with a few places to eat and do some beach shopping
Limited parking, but if you get there early you could get a FREE parking space.

I'm not sure why I love it here so much. Yes, there's the smell of the ocean, the crash of the waves. There are the small shops and the small snack bar. There are the pebbles, and craggy cove of Maine. The water is always cold, and at high tide there is NO beach, so be sure to check out the tide schedule. However, we've been coming here for so long from VT, that being here is like coming home.

Very busy place, but much more manageable midweek and offseason(early-late October). The town VERY walkable so get to in town parking lots ASAP.

We stayed in Wells for a week and took the trolley to the beach one day. The water was gorgeous and calm with a long and impressive coastline. The trolley let's you off right at the beach so figure a 1 min walk to sand. Plenty of food options, more grill items hamburgers, hot dogs, lobster rolls etc. Ice Cream options as well. We walked down to the water and got a seat on the ledge which was a couple feet from the ocean.
Restrooms are also located on the street level, indoor and outdoor restrooms available to the public.

Had to go to the beach on such a beautiful day. Sun shining, a little breezy and salt sea air. Relaxing. Refreshing. Relaxing.

Wells Beach is one of my favorites. Clean, family beach. No a lot of seaweed, huge beach to spread out, except at high tide when the beach dissappears, so check a tide chart first! Parking is limited , so get an early start.

We stopped to visit the beach on the way home from Kennebunk, it was a beautiful fall morning and the beach was as beautiful as ever. Very clean.

Family members getting together at Christmastime. We walked the beach from the jetty to the Mile Road. This is a year round beach and always enjoyable. There's plenty of room and the dogs can run.

We went here as part of our son's 7th birthday weekend, and he had so much fun splashing and crashing in the waves! There was a lot of seaweed floaties but it really didn't bother us too much, the sandy part of the beach was so great and the water was a very comfotable temerature. This was his first time to the ocean and he totally loved it. We were very impressed by the size of the beach, there was plenty of room from our 'spot' to the next persons 'spot'...was a lot of people there but did not feel like we were crowded. Definately will visit this beach again!

This is a very nice beach area but can imagine it is probably way too busy for my taste during peak summer season. Lots of hotels, resorts and rental properties line the beach. If you like the coyness of being next to other beach goers, this is place for you. If you like a little quieter, head north to Ferry Beach are in Saco Maine.

I live locally and this is the only beach I will take my dog too! The jetty end, at the end of Atlantic Ave is our favorite spot to go. There is plenty of sandy beach for the dog to enjoy and he swims by the harbor (deep). Please keep in mind, they do have in-season dog rules you must follow.

Such a beautiful beach, I love going here. I suggest going here, there's an ice cream place and a few other stores

Beach was not crowded at all because of Covid 19. We had two great days at this beach even though most of the time it was overcast. plenty of room at low tide. Not so much at high tide. Chose your spot wisely and review the tide chart. Most people were respecting social distancing.
Would definitely go back here.

What a pleasure to find a free parking space on a June weekday at this public beach and enjoy the water, waves and a walk on the beach. I actually use this as a rest stop when driving to/from MA to visit relatives in central Maine. I love that you don't have to stay there and spend lots of money for the privilege of walking on a public beach in an affluent area. It's a joy to watch the children and families discovering the beach and creating memories. I can walk and walk on this lovely beach and feel renewed and refreshed for the drive home. Thank you, citizens of Wells Beach, for your generosity.

Great beach, maybe lesser known as the bigger beaches nearby but a great place to go. Nice places nearby and some great restaurants within a short distance.

Went as a family to Wells beach and it was a pleasant surprise. The beach sand was not crazy hot and it was so clean. Because high tide does come so far into the shoreline it keeps the beach clean and sand cool all day. I was disappointed when the day was cut short due to high tide times. It was a great beach for families, kids searched for crabs near the rocks.

Wells Beach, ME is my favorite place, a place that helps me rid myself of the stresses of life. The beach is perfect for walk (less it's high tide), family friendly, just awesome.

Wells Beach and its sister Crescent Beach are two great places to plunk down your chair, soak up the sun, take a swim or go for a nice walk. With about three miles of uninterrupted sand this is a great beach. That is, as long as the tide is not high. The high water mark at the main beach entrances comes up to the walls but at any other time access to the beach is great and there is a large area to set down your blankets, chairs, or canopies for a great beach experience. Just check the tide charts so you won't be disappointed. If the tide is high you can still find a great beach access at the end of Atlantic Avenue where there is metered parking. You can wade in, body surf, or actually use a board. As the tide goes out at the beach entrance by Mile Road there is a wonderful spot for kids to explore tidal pools. Also at that entrance you will find Forbes Restaurant, the Rollover Cafe an arcade for the kids.and metered parking. At the southern end is Crescent Beach also with metered parking that offers the same great swimming, wading and walking opportunities. These beaches are far less crowded than the popular Ogunquit Beach farther south.. It is less hectic and far less expensive for parking at Wells Beach.

Great beach amongst the fantastic beaches of Southern Maine!Beautiful sandy beach with restaraunt, great shops and great accommodations! Get there early to park!

Gorgeous beaches! We had a blast at the beach with our family and in-laws. Sand was amazing and soft and water was warm enough to swim.

Beautiful beach. A lot quieter than most other beaches along the coast. A little rocky but that also makes at a great are for finding beach treasures with the family. Been coming here for over 30 years and still thouroughly enjoy it.

Rocky beach. No place to get drinks or snack. No restrooms. And the tiny sand part of the beach was packed with people.

I reached the beach riding from Ogunquit, following the ocean route. The beach is very nice, there is enough place and it is not crowdy. It is also a nice spor to take pictures of the rising moon.

One of the cleanest beach i've been on.
We stayed at Thousand Trails in Wells main. So we got to visit a lot of clean beaches.

Nice, level beach that is very family friendly and great for walking. High tide comes right up to the rocks so space is extremely limited during high tide, but there is a ton of space during low tide. Parking lot fills up quickly on busy days.

Was just totally awesome. Water was just warming a day before we left, I went in , I had to. Place on wells beach OMG it was awesomr,. Good Time !!!!!!

The spacious beach allows for a relaxing summer experience. Bring a good book and a picnic lunch and you will be all set to chill for a few hours! The water is cold - so don't forget a sweat shirt and wet suit! Parking is a bit rough - arrive early of take the trolley!

Very interesting beach with the high and low tide. You have the free parking right when you arrive ( be sure to be earlier there to have a place).

Our favorite stop to walk on the beach. This time we saw a whale near the shore. Always a familiar trek when visiting Wells.

This is a nice northeastern beach to visit for a good stroll. We came here at the end of winter beginning of spring and enjoyed our visit albeit quickly.

Plan a trip to Wells Beach is worth the drive. Go in the beach in the evening
Very peaceful, clean..

We did a short winter walk with kids while the tide was out. This is a much rockier beach the Old Orchard Beach but still nice for a winter walk.

Seems every beach in this part of maine you can't find parking and have to pay $25 a day at a private lot

The beach it is always clean and people love that after six you can walk the dogs. it's just a place to go and get away from it all and just relax.I don't mind to pay to park for the day to be able to enjoy the day.

There are a few beach areas in Wells. I have walked them all over the years. And I would walk them all again.

Our favorite beach. The water and beach are clean, plenty of room to spread out. We always walk from one end of the beach to the other to exercise and look at the ocean front homes. The water is cool so it takes a while to get used to it. I usually don't go in past my knees but it is still very enjoyable.

Great beach for walking. We strolled from public parking area down to the point & back. Friendly people, busy beach but not crowded

Wells Beach, Moody Beach, Ogunquit Beach -- these are all just contiguous beaches. I suppose, in one form or other they go all the way to Canada. If you go to the beach at the end of Mile Road, the high tide comes right up to the wall. Personally, I like moving southward, toward Moody Beach. It is lined with big houses, but very poor parking and only occasional access. I think that's a good thing. We were here in September after Labor Day. Many places were for rent with off season prices. If you don't care about warm sunny weather, this is certainly an alternative.

Have been visiting Wells beach for 30 years, family vacation every August, nice clean, good for families, safe surf for swimming. Just watch the tide schedule as no beach at high tide unless you go way north up Atlantic ave. parking can fun or you can pay to park at municipal lot. We stay at Lafayette's right on beach so parking is a breeze in private lot. Good food to had at Forbes (typical costal fare) or Rollover Cafe for great sandwiches .
Enjoy

Beautiful area; family friendly. The good people of Wells welcome visitors to the area. Only issue we've ever had was on a cold fall day as our family had a quick lunch in a parking space by the beach. An older man in a little truck glared at us and repeatedly pointed at a No Parking sign that we weren't close to (offended by out of state plates??). We ignored him + enjoyed our time there. As we drove out later we saw his truck at a rundown little house nearby; all of the shades were pulled. I think he mistakenly thought that he had ownership of the area; we gave him a hearty welcome on the car horn to let him know that we enjoy our beach in Wells as much as anyone. This pitiable, bitter man is by the exception. Everyone that we have met in Wells have been friendly, polite + welcoming. A great community; lots of fun things to do for families!....

Clean beach, well maintained. At low tide, tidal pools provide interesting entertainment for children. Life guards are on duty.

This is a beautiful beach in August. It is not as crowded as Old Orchard Beach, so there is plenty of room to sit and have your own space. There are hotels around the beach, as well as Air BNBs. There is also a small arcade, some super cute shops, and several restaurants. My 5 year old had a wonderful day at the beach doing all the fun activities there.

We go to Wells/Ogunquit as a tradition after Thanksgiving, and love strolling on the sandy beach, regardless of the weather. If there is a storm at sea, the waves crash into the shore and entertain us for awhile. This year, it was balmy and wonderful weather to really walk close to the water, friendly people, even watched some folks trying to surf. Sunny and warm for the time of the year.

Public parking at end of Mile road. Walk north and you come to breakwater & channel with more public parking and boat ramp. Walk south and you can go just as far. Lots of rocky areas to investigate and some small pools at low tide.

This is my happy place! I would live on the beach if I had millions of dollars. I love walking every morning to the jetty. I always look for sand dollars often finding one or two!! It is a beautiful beach with lots of room for everything. Be it playing games, exercising, swimming, sandcastle building or just getting some sun with family or friends. I come here from Vermont six to eight times a year. Bringing my granddaughter for the first time in a week and a half.

Beach was bustling but not overly crowded. The tidal pools were a young kid’s dream- warm water and plenty of snails and crabs to look for. The ocean was relatively calm and shallow for quite a ways so you could really go out for a swim and the water was not that cold. We enjoyed our stay!

Excellent beach and when the tide is out there are many tide pods where you can find shells and even sea glass, awesome place to search for fun ocean finds with the kids!

100 yards+ wide at low tide, Can get angry but beautiful at high tide but always a pleasure to walk on and enjoy the beautiful, pristine Maine coast. The beach is CLEAN

Clean easy to get to this beach. The waves were awesome as the hit the rocks and sprayed up. The majority of the beach is rock free with great sand

The stair access is steep but very safe. The beac is quite interesting when one follows the tides as the ocean comes right to the edge during high tide. The area is perfect this time of year too, not overcrowded midweek.

Wells Beach is the scenic beach you would go to and drive around, bicycle, boat,or walk around and not swim. The beach is situated with a stone and rock base with no sand. The water body is no differend than any coastal beach without sand. I enjoy looking at the properties and real estate along Webhannet Drive. If I where to purchase beachfront property this is my location. Why? No tourism, crowds, chaos, with all the charm and character of Maines culture. Being less than a mile from many local hotspots that visitors frequent, most passby Wells Beach and head back to Kennebunkport or Portland. This is the only place I shared my little secret-secret! Hope I touch someones trip if they find this review. Enjoy!

the Wells Beach is not a commercialized hotspot where you'll find lots of shops or boardwalks to walk along. When you go out to the beach on the right is rocks that will come out more and more as the tide goes out , with really interesting tide pools and great places to look for crabs , to the left is all smooth so as the tide goes out it's all just straight Beach. The sand is soft the breeze is wonderful.there is a place that sells ice cream and a couple of restaurants that are in hotels there's a beach store that sells things you might have forgotten and drinks and coffee but it is a little expensive. The trolley goes up and down and you should use it it's only a dollar one way, they only take cash.

My husband and I decided to walk the beach on our last day in Maine. It was so incredibly beautiful, it was like a postcard picture. I don't know what it would be like during the summer but in the offseason it was clean, quiet and very relaxing.

Our family enjoyed this beach at low tide in the afternoon. There was free parking. The beach was not crowded. We had fun flying kites, throwing Frisbees, and watching sand castles being built.

One of the few beaches with some free parking right near beach, paid lot close by, nice beach though very little left at high tide, trolley stops at beach

Nice clean beach good for families. In August the tide didnt come all the way up so you could stay all day (everyone kind of gets friendly at high tide but never felt packed). Love the rocks and the nice sand. Water was lovely.

Wells is an interesting beach for beachcombers. There are lots of tide pools and rocks for exploring nature. It is not good for laying out at high tide because the water goes all the way to the wall: don't get caught! It is fine for laying out during low tide though although it is not fluffy sand but hard packed. There is a small restaurant and shops as well.

Long walk to this beautiful beach is worth it. The bathrooms are also a long walk from the beach. Quite spacious beach

We stopped here after visiting Ogunquit, and found it to be a beautiful beach with a few very nice shops.
Great opportunity for ocean pictures.
Plenty of bench seating if walking on the beach just isn't your thing.

You'll call it lovely. A typical beautiful Maine beach with the rocky coastline. A nice sandy beach and tidal pools for playing in. Do you dare try the bone chilling cold water? There's lodging, dining and shopping around. Come see what Wells Maine has to offer.

Nice area by the boardwalk.
Arcades
Shopping
Coffee shop
Benches
Stairs that go down to the beach
Nice weather and views

We visit on Easter week and it was a nice walk on the beach ,we walk the beach on and on it was perfect we definitely going back

Great beach. But you are in Maine the water tends to be cold. It was 62 degrees in August.
There tends to be waves so bring your boogie board or surf board and ride the waves. There is a portion that has a rip tide but the Life Guards are very attentive and makes sure everyone stays out of that area.
At low tide there are a number of small beaches you can walk to from the main beach. If the tide starts coming be prepared you will have to swim back or take the Marginal Way to get back to the big beach.
You can sit on the beach. They also have a place where you can sit in the shade and just watch the waves crash.
My wife and I go back every year. We love the beach and Ogunquit.

It's a nice walking beach -- at low tide, anyway! Has a few of your standard beachy gift shops and a few restaurants at the main entry to the beach.

Really nice beach, nice for walking along the shore. Bring credit card to pay to park and your own umbrella, food and drinks.

Just to bad dogs are not aloud on the beach after May 15 th , Molly loves the beach. Great place for the whole family with children and without

As we enter the town of Wells we look for Mile Rd, we turn down at the lights, pass some condos, pass Billy’s Chowder House, see walkers and bikers on this mile flat road. Soon we approach buildings, left and right turns or go straight to small parking lot. We park, get out of car, and walk up to the viewing area. The oceans beautiful, we take the stairs down to the soft sand with rocks all around. Take our flip flops off and walk to the cold ocean waters. We walk both ways a little, then we decide to go back to the car, and drive to our stay, get ready to go out in the evening to eat a great meal at The Villager, so wonderful here, then go back to see the ocean at night. It’s very dark, can’t really see much, but can hear the waves as the tide comes in. I can relive these precious times now in my mind when I cannot be there. Dream on.

I come from Massachusetts where a lot of the beaches frankly smell like sewage. This particular Beach was very clean with light gray Sands peppered with black granite. Fresh Ocean Air and just a bit of Christmas too the atmosphere. Very pleasant and calm walk with the hubby

We parked at the end of Atlantic’s ave, towards the jetty. It was 24 dollars to park for the day and the beach access was right there. They do have a public restroom but from the beach is quite a walk. Everything you take in you take out, no garbages. No food or shops. The beach was nice, the sand was so so fine and soft. The water was shallow, it was nice for our kids 7&2. It is better to set up your area closer to shore, because you will have to move it when the tide rolls in. The beach has lots of seaweed and debris, oqunquit was much cleaner in respects to that.

Wonderful family favorite for decades. Clean and friendly. A lot if restaurant choices and a dog friendly beach.

We are staying across the street at Moody Cottages. The beach is awesome. The water is very cold here right now but the boys have no trouble playing in the ocean. You need to wait till low tide is in to enjoy the beach. When high tide is in there is no beach. You can see the beautiful coastline when you are on the beach here. It's a beautiful place.

We had a great time here - we went late in the day when the crowds had mostly left. We found a spot where we didn't have to pay for parking (a plus!). The water was chilly but that didn't stop us from going in. It's a nice sandy beach with plenty of space to spread out. It's enjoyable to just sit in your beach chair and watch the gulls (and the other beach goers having fun). We like this beach better than Ogunquit Beach. While you're in the area, take a ride to York, Maine to see the Cape Neddick Nubble lighthouse (but it's hard to see if it's foggy out).

Very nice-the sound of the waves hitting the rocks and rolling the pebbles is especially nice. The water is cold and walking along the shoreline is very refreshing. There is a healthy smell of saltwater in the air- lovely

We only had a little bit to be on the beach. It was fairly empty. People were walking, running, doing yoga. It was so relaxing. We just walked out to let the water hit our feet. Pretty quiet great views, lots of birds.
Parking is ridiculously expensive! Especially for us when we could only stay about 15 minutes. It’s one price per day regardless of length of stay.
They have a restroom/ changing area in the parking lot.

We're staying close to Wells Beach for several nights and we are glad we choose this area. The beach has a rocky section that is really cool to see and to photograph. There's also large areas that do not have rocks so swimmers can have an easier time.
Pets are allowed on the beach all day at time of the year and our dog just loves to romp and play.
We're glad we choose Wells Beach...!

This beach had some great rock outcrops and tidal pools to investigate. The little round stones made great little souvenirs. Enjoyed walking after the lobster dinner.

We go to the beach area on Altantic Avenue all the way down to the end. We bring our dogs (Lab and Jack Russell Terrier). During the summer they are only allowed before 8am and after 6pm. Not a big deal though.

Beautiful clean beach with lots of space to walk. While there are some lots where you can pay to park there is not much parking available.

New to this beach and is a nice location . Town run parking lot and gets crowded on weekends . Really clean and beach area is large enough you never feel crowded on the sand . Great walking beach when tide is out. . Will definitely return on next visit to the area .

The beach is very wide at low tide but at high tide, there is almost no beach left. It is clean hard packed sand so easy to walk on. Water was cold, about 62 when we were there in September. The parking is free but spaces are very limited. There is pay-parking about a 5 minute walk down the road - $2.50/hr.

I have been going to Wells Beach for over 30 years. I love the sound. Also, the way the tide splashes up on the rocks is so beautiful.

Visited off season, but the weather was great, the beach was quiet, and very clean. Long stretches of beach to walk.

Parking is a problem but outside of that the beach is not just a great place for a walk but also to sit on the benches provided in the parking area to just enjoy the scenery and crisp air. Benches are located in an elevated area off the parking lot to give a great view of the entire beach.

This beach is clean, pretty and peaceful. We spent a couple of mornings here enjoyed breakfast on the beach. We collected some shells and explored the beach while the tide went out. The water was pleasant to wade in and the beach wasn't very crowded in the mornings. The parking is very limited, so if you don't get there early, you won't get a free spot and will have to pay for parking.

This beach was perfect for our family we loved it. Water was cold but on hot summer days it didn’t matter. We paid for parking by the arcade.

Had a great time at the beach.Watch out for the stones. This is a
nice beach to go to. Take the Trolley over from Hanaford Supermarket for a dollar.I walked north on the main street to public way #2.It was quieter there.I enjoy getting a near total tan and always wear "thong" style swimwear. No problems, there were the usual few looks and comments but had a great time at the beach

We went on the off season to walk the beach and it was just so peaceful. I loved this beach. There were some surfers there and we found a few seashells. If you are in the area go here and take a stroll and enjoy the sand and waves.

Good to walk & run on, but a bit crowded and rocky for sunbathing. We were there July 1 & it was crowded. Lots of people having fun.

We stayed at the USA Inn Hotel. Everyone was nice. The only thing missing were little tables outside the room

Nice town. Beautiful beach that seems to go on for miles. Had good meals at The Steakhouse and Hobbs Harborside. Would certainly return.

We have been coming here for so long and and it holds so many memories, we wouldn't go anywhere else. BUT keep in mind this is Maine, and the ocean temperature rarely gets above 55 degrees. Also keep in mind that at high tide you can lose a good deal of beach, but in Wells, you lose the whole beach. Love it's quintessential New England charm.

If you love to visit beaches in Maine, be sure to see this one. A great place for some relation. Great for couples, families, etc.

Have enjoyed this place for many many years. Close enough that it doesn’t take forever to get to the far enough away so you feel like you’re away from home.

Beautiful, clean beach! Be Shute to pay attention to the tide times and large rocks. Not a lot of shells.

A nice long beach, and very large at low tide. At high tide you need to be back by the seawall of the camps. Nice for swimming, walking, seaglass, shells, people watching, sand castles, etc.

We had the pleasure of spending four beautiful days at Moody Beach. We enjoyed warmer than usual weather and were able to sit on the beach each afternoon. Just glorious.

This is a beautiful beach!! There are lifeguards on duty. There is plenty of room for everyone. Parking can be difficult, but it is worth doing around the lot till you get a spot. My only complaint, when high tide comes in, you loose a lot of the beach for a couple of hours. There a eating establishment close by, and shops to go through. All in all it is a great beach!!

We didn't walk the beach as Hurricane Jose was there that day. The waves were impressive. It is a nice place to be as I love the ocean and could stay there all day.

The dog beach at Wells was a blast for the kids and the dog. Everywhere there was kind and responsible owners, which made the beach feel very safe and relaxing

Once you get over the foot bridge you are right on the beach. The walk over the foot bridge was pretty too. I was at low tide, so there was plenty of beach to see. Not too crowded, but it was a Tuesday afternoon. If you want to stay for the day you will have to pay for parking. Otherwise there is free 30min parking on the street.

Recently took a trip to Wells and went to the beach multiple times. Beach was clean and everyone worked to social distance. Saw some seals swimming one of the days. My wife and I want to come back next year. Note that most of the beach disappears at high tide so plan your day accordingly.

Relaxing non pretentious beach. For visitors who are very low key and do not need a ton of attractions to keep themselves entertained. A few shops and restaurants as well as a little arcade for kids/teens. Good calm location to get you into the area and gives you an opportunity to explore surrounding beaches/area. Stopped at Ogonquit beach first and stayed a night before heading to Old Orchard Beach. Ate baked stuffed lobsters at Billys chowder house. Enjoy!

Biggest plus is they allow dogs in the beach before 8 am and after 6pm tide really goes out so you can walk and maintain 6ft easily. There are restaurants and shops nearby if you are into that

We visited Wells for a week. On our first visit to Wells Beach the tide was out. You could walk almost 100 yards to the sur. When we visited the next time, there wasn't any beach at high tide. The tide was crashing onto the steps leading to the beach. Check your tide table before visiting.

Not many were out in October even though it was a fairly warm day. Beach is beautiful as are the homes in the area.

We came here for a few hours. This beach in Ogunquit is another beach off the side of the main street. This is a very busy beach with not much sand. When high tide hits the water must come to the ocean wall near the board walk. A wide beach with good waves.

We love Wells Beach. It is large and provides lots of people watching, good swimming, sand and walking. The only downside is at high tide you can't get on and off the beach in most places.

The beach is beautiful! It's so clean and great for families. It is a great place to take a walk and relax

Beautiful huge beach. Has tidal pools for the wee ones. The water is pins and needles cold but super clean. Tide comes in and beach disappears. Good parking, restrooms near by as well as food.

I think the southern end is the best. The south parking lot is the best place to go but can fill fast. Beach is best at low tide. Water can be warm in the summer but cold in the fall.

Beautifully clean stretch of beach. Parking was easy and pay by meter so you can pay for just the amount of time you plan to be there.
Tide comes in and you have to move back a bit if you sit too close.

We usually go the the beach during the day and in the evening after dinner just to relax and listen to the ocean

Wells Beach is an expansive, wide (at low tide) Beach that offers a nice long, easy walk for about 20 minutes, one way, at low tide. The surf is tame and thus great for kids, and the water, when we were there was certainly not the Maine-cold water that we were anticipating. There are two parking lots (be mindful, there is no parking on nearby Webhannet Drive) at either end, and there is a pretty cool jetty (actually, two, forming a channel for boats to go to a boat landing a half mile away.) Note that at high tide, the ocean goes all the way to the sea wall at the street and motels that line Atlantic Avenue.

Love this beach. It is huge at low tide with plenty of room for all
Types of out door games... catch, frisbee, bocce beach ball etc. many people enjoying a great day. Shops and snack bar are a short walk from the beach.

This was an awesome trip! The weather was beautiful, the water was wet, and the views were wonderful. We were in Wells during the full moon-it was breathtaking!

Nicely maintained walkway, parking and beach. (parking is free after 5pm)The sand is soft and groomed. We visited in the early evening, enjoying the cooler temperature, a walk in the surf and collecting a few shells after the tide had gone out. Bring some chairs and enjoy channel (close to the parking lot for those who have trouble walking in sand), watch the sea birds and enjoy the easy sights. Don't forget to drive slowly through the beach house road leading to the parking lot, there's walkers, bikers, dogwalkers and children.....and many beautiful houses.

Not too crowded. Plenty of sand. Everything a beach should have. Parking a challenge on a nice beach day.

Two lounge chairs nice breeze sun and sand. What more can you ask for it was very peaceful here can't wait to return!!

So glad we went here. Still plenty of beach available at high tide, and beach becomes huge during low tide, with lots of fun tide pools for the kids that are still safe and not too rocky. Very very clean. Lower key beach overall. Some free parking right near beach, but it fills up fast. Other lots available for pay, but are cash only, fyi. Only one or two food places nearby/walking distance, plus a couple shops and a small arcade.

For 6 years we've been enjoying the beaches of Maine in midJuly-early August and our two favorite beaches are Wells Beach and Ogunquit's Footbridge Beach. Wells has lots of open space, very large parking lot, and for those who want to stay on the beach there are many rentals available with the beach right out the back door. Water and beach clean and safe for the family. Plenty of space to be with the crowds down by the food, or to be away from the business to watch birds and waves.

The beach is very nice, clean and well cared for. To avoid the crowds the Fall is the best time to walk the beach. No Summer crowds on the beach or in the parking areas.
The summer has hot days but the water is very, very cold. The summer heat has warmed the water so September to November the water while warmer than the Summer is still cold but not like the summer. With that said, Wells has a great beach, fabulous restaurants, nice lodging and many shops. Come check it out

We walked out the the beach to enjoy the view for a few minutes. A pleasant surprise is that the parking fee is only applicable until 6:00 PM. We thought that was a nice tip for people if they are just going for a walk in the evening.

After having a slice of pizza from a nearby pizza shop for lunch, I went to Wells Beach for the afternoon.
I was fortunate to get a parking space at the part of Wells Beach that is at the end on Mile Road. The space was close One Casino Square Shopping Center for when I was ready for ice cream and browsing the gift and souvenir shops.
It was about an hour after low tide when I arrived. The tide was coming in slowly.
There was just enough moving air to keep the 80 F day comfortable.
Most of the seven-mile stretch of Wells Beach is sandy; however, there is a very short, low-lying rocky ledge in this area at the end of Mile Road.
At the time of my visit, a number of people were sitting on the benches on the walkway along the seawall and parking area.
A number of people were in the ocean. I stayed out because of the notice by the Wells Police Department and the local Maine Marine Patrol that a sizable great white shark had been spotted just the day before on Thursday, August 13th near the Wells Harbor bell buoy about 150 yards offshore near the entrance to Wells Harbor. Advice was to go no more than knee-deep in the water. I wasn’t going to chance it - not after having read Peter Benchley’s novel and having seen the movie “Jaws.”
I was content to enjoy the clean beach and fresh salty air, to look at the ocean, and to watch the gently-rolling waves.
It was a very pleasant, enjoyable, relaxing afternoon at the beach.
I capped off my day with an ice cream from Forbes Seafood Restaurant and browsing at T-Shirts N' Things and The Beachcomber, two nearby shops within a very short walk.
I rate my Wells Beach experience at 4.5 and highly recommend a visit.

Although we spent a week in Ogunquit, we spent the majority of our nights on Wells Beach. It was the perfect place for us to take our dogs for walks, let them swim in the ocean, and even see some seals!

Spent a few hours with my 8 year old son. Beach was free, wasn’t too crowded and had rocks for him to climb, wet sand for castle building and whole digging, tide pools and gentle waves. People were friendly, limited facilities, no food for sale you must bring your own but a really pleasant, relaxing place.

Wells Beach is beautiful, but was closed up for the off season. We are spoiled to the Florida Gulf coast beaches and this gray sand doesn’t compare. Still beautiful!

Excellent beach to take your family to. Food right next to the water, incredible sky views as the sun sets. Friendly atmosphere....fun for all.

Nice beach with lifeguards, area where water collects and little ones can play with pail and shovel. Rather long walk from an expensive parking lot ($20/day). Since we never stay more than 2 hours, I wish there was an hourly parking rate.

My husband and I walked this uncrowded beach in September collecting a few shells and some tumbled rocks. I don't know that I would want to visit this beach in the heat of summer as I suspect it would get terribly crowded.
Because we were staying oceanfront, we were able to walk this beach more than once each day. There is something soothing about the rhythm of the tides . . . .

Wells Beach on Maine’s southern coast offers the perfect mix of natural beauty, small-town charm, and accessibility for visitors of all ages. With a wide, clean shoreline and refreshing ocean views, it’s a relaxing spot whether you’re building sandcastles, taking a walk, or simply watching the waves.
A spacious parking lot—including veteran-only spaces—makes access easy, and a bench-lined sitting area offers a peaceful option for those who prefer not to head down onto the sand.
Just steps from the beach, Forbes Take-Out, a local favorite for over 100 years, serves up classic beach fare and ice cream. It’s the perfect stop after a sunny day by the water.
From toddlers to grandparents, Wells Beach is a welcoming, family-friendly destination that keeps people coming back year after year.

So we show up early in the morning to watch the sun rise. It was low tide with the sun rising at 5:06 am. Crisp air, calm seas, and plenty of beach to walk on. As i was sitting on some rocky outcrop I decided to try some Curvy Man Yoga.
Curvy Man Yoga is like regular Yoga only preformed by a "Husky" guy.... Me.
It was beautiful, the air was so clean with the sent of the sea. To get the full on experience i decided to take off my shirt. I started my pose and could feel the muscles stretch, joints pop, and back creek.
Suddenly i heard the screams of women and children! I thought someone was being eaten by a shark. But to my surprise they were just screaming at me to put my shirt back on...
Anyway, Great beach. Epic low tide and beautiful. As long as there is no fat guy doing yoga.

We had a great 8 days holiday in Wells and used it as a base to explore the area on the non-Beach days when the weather was not so good.
We even got to see Jersey Boys as well.

Go every summer in late Aug to early September. Very picturesqued. Always great for walking. We walk almost every day, then sit and have coffee. Always beautiful. Sometimes the water is pretty cool, considering it's summer (used to it tho, since we are New Englanders from way back). Sometimes get to see a seal or two as we enter from parking lot.

This summer was disappointed at $25 a day per car, the very long walk to a beach that was ankle deep in seaweed in many areas. I was very disappointed in this beach and with so many beautiful choices of beaches, I would not go to this one again. We had a number of families coming together from around the country for a mini family gathering and with children the cost of parking for us was over $100 a day.

Great place to walk at low tide. Sand is firm enough to walk in sneakers. Never crowded. Easy parking especially with resident beach sticker.

This is not your white sandy beach - unless you visit the section closest to the harbour where there is a section of white sand. No - this is a sand castle building beach par excellence. There are really 3 sections to the Wells beach - in the middle - and the most popular section - is the main 'village' area with 4 different hotels, a coffee shop, a snack shop (with very good fried food), and some smaller shops - of which the Perkin's Cove Chocolate shop is probably the most delicious. To the left facing the ocean is the harbour section of the beach - park there for white sand and the biggest waves. To the right facing the ocean is my favorite part of the beach - at low tide it becomes a giant aquarium for little kids - filled with rocks, water, baby lobsters and crabs. At high tide, most of the beach disappears - except the section nearest the harbour. But often that's the best time to swim in the ocean! The sandy bottom makes for great wave jumping without fear of hitting a rock - and the tireless lifeguards make sure everyone stays safe. It's my idea of heaven - or as I told my kids - it's my happy place.

This beach is great for walking along the ocean. Long and clean. If you like, you can walk on the rocks breakwater.

Cool day but love walking on the beach during low tide. Familly attraction. Free parking this time of year. Annual spot to stop.

Excellent place to walk on the beach in the winter. It was windy but beach is flat and solid. Pretty views and nice to look at the houses.

Even in winter this is a beautiful beach. If you like the cold and New England feel this is a great place to visit when in the area. Parking is tough so if you can walk or bike that is better.

So layed back and the beach was heaven. Definitely will be on the list for our next trip. Great for the older person that likes things a little quieter and slower.

The ocean just seems to quiet your nerves. Wells beach is no exception. Visited this week and only a few steps and you are on the beach. If you think you can't get sunburned in September you are wrong! As they say a day at the beach beats a day in the office. Highly recommend to alleviate your stress and have a quiet place to be in your own thoughts. Water is cold although there were a few that braved the waves. Will definitely be back!

Enjoyed warm weather and uncrowded beaches, but the fog was thick and lasted all day one day. Kind of ruined the idea of watching boats, swimmers, surfers, etc.

We really enjoy Wells in general, and really enjoy Wells beach! It's big, and a wide variety of people (families, teens, college kids, etc), and clean. Wish there were bathrooms a bit closer:) Have been many times in the last 2 years

This is an awesome beach that clearly highlights the natural beauty of Maine. There is parking, restroom availability, and lifeguards. Watch the tide table, as this expansive beach disappears at high tide although there is still some sand.

Much, much more reasonable than Ogunquit Beach and not nearly as busy. Nice view and a rocky beach in areas. Convenient if staying in Wells.

Parking is always tricky so you’ll need to be there early. Watch the tide chart because there’s no beach at high tide.

Love this beach! Spent several days here. . Came really early one day to see a beautiful sunrise. High tide really does cover most of the immediate beach!

Great place to go and relax while the tide is out. This is always a stop whenever we are close to Maine, Sometimes parking fills up fast!!! Get there early.

Very nice beach. Restrooms at entrance by parking lot. Not too crowded. Love walking this beach at the end of Atlantic Ave. Visitors pay after 8 AM. Wells residents buy an annual beach sticker for free parking anytime. Life guards on duty after 9AM. Small waves. Water temp in the 60's. Clean, nice sand few rocks at this end of the beach.

It was wonderful to stand in the Atlantic Ocean in Maine in October and not have my feet freeze and fall off at the ankles. The shells were awesome and so was the experience of being on the beach!

Moody Beach is our favorite, but Wells Beach has an arcade and food stands right there, so it is fun, too. Poking around the rocks with flashlights seems to be a popular evening activity for kids.

I only visited this beach as it was close to the hotel that I was staying at....so glad that I did!
Something about this beach made it far more charming than the more developed ones @ Ogunquit, Old Orchard etc.; it wasn't pretentious but was nonetheless gorgeous
I would say this is one of the top 3 beaches on the New England coastline!

Wells Beach is a very large beach. There are two public parking lots at each end of the beach. Recommend during July & August that you get there by 9:30 for parking. There are public bathrooms and at one end of Mile Road there is a snack bar. No dogs allowed on beach. Great family beach.

We visited on a Sunday evening late in August and again the next day. It is a beautiful clean beach. I can see how it could get very crowded at times but it was perfect when we visited.

Winter is the time to get out and walk. It was a 40 degree day (I prefer at least this warm), but dress with water proof shoes and warm clothes, hat, gloves. Go down "Mile road", parking is right off beach, stairs take you to the sand. Huge beach, plenty of area to walk, even if there are other people with their dogs (allowed on beach til mid June). Everyone walks to the left from the stairs, and goes to the breakway rocks (don't forget to touch the rocks before turning around and walking back). It took us one hour and 15 minutes because on the way down we stopped and looked at shells (especially looking for sand dollars-only found broken ones). Fun times!!

Beautiful beach and area to watch waves crashing at night from the benches on Mile Road
Food and stores in this area are fun to eat and shop at.
Area is dog friendly

One of the most beautiful beaches around and was close to where we were staying. Watch for tides or you could get wet quick! Beach goes for miles and miles. Nice jetty to walk on as well. Cant wait to go back in the Summertime.

This is where I first put my feet in the Atlantic Ocean. I live on the west side of the US and this was my first time out East. The day was in the 70's and beautiful, the water was warm.

I’ve been spending summers here for over 50 years.
I paint plein aire and have spent much time sitting on the rocks at moody point watching the birds and drinking my coffee. My mother’s family is from this area and my Hram bought our cottage in 1967.
There are multiple sand beaches and tidal pool ones as well as rocky ones. There are a plethora of restaurants at every price point, and family activities like outdoor concerts at the harbor gazebo, miniature golf, go carts and pick your own strawberries.
The Wells library offers Childrens programming open to the public and WiFi and computers also open to the public.
Hannaford grocery store on mile road has superb selections of produce and seafood. The Wells Farmer’s Market onWednesday afternoon has many vendors with fresh produce, cheese, baked goods, herbs jams spreads and incredible bread.
Nature lovers can visit Laudholm Farm or Rachel Carson Wildlife refuge for hikes and educational programming.
Art lovers can visit the Corey Daniels gallery on Rte 1 and make a short jaunt to The Barn Gallery or the Ogunquit Museum of Art.

Every time we go it is so amazing.. It's a bit crowded, But that's what it's all about.. We bring our blanket set up and enjoy the sun and water..

This so much reminded me of Revere Beach in its hey day. Plenty of amusement rides for the kids and a long clean sandy beach.

The sea is amazing . Maine is such a relaxing place that all your troubles just melt away at the oceans edge .
As it is written , time just keeps on slipping into the future !

Very nice beach, family-oriented, never gets overcrowded. It is a victim of the tides, so when it's coming in, beware. Otherwise, just a beautiful beach to walk and hang.

We’ve been coming here for about 8 years now and really enjoy this beach. We rent a house/apartment close to one of the paths in. Very convenient to be able to go back to the unit for meals, Kids naps, bathroom breaks. The village ctr has restaurants, shops, bathrooms. Have also stayed at Lafayette motel.

This was my first time going to Wells Beach. It was everything I hoped it would be. It was not crowded. It was absolutely beautiful. We will go back.

First of all, I want you to know that I live in Wells. Still, having been to the beaches up and down the coast, I can honestly say Wells is the best. It's long with a a gentle slope. This means you can go far out and still touch the bottom. Plenty of room for walking, sun bathing, and games. It's well maintained.

Beautiful beach. Used the municipal parking lot next to surf shop for easy parking. Kids love the arcade and candy store.

Narrow New England beach. Cold water.
Fun tide pools.
Small parking lots - paid too.
Seemeed to be a lot of seaweed in the water.
Not too crowded on Labor Day weekend.
Would recommend: For a visit
Would repatronize: Possibly

During high tide, this beach is extremely thin but very long. At high tide, people were walking down the stairs to the beach and walking thru the water to get to sand sufficient to set up on. If you go further down the street, there are beach entry points with much friendlier surroundings!!

Drive on down and park close to the beach. Down a flight of stairs and you have plenty of beach to walk on especially at low tide.

We stayed at Wells Beach RV Campground, nice ,clean, friendly staff, easy to get to. Good parking for youre truck or car at youre site. Super clean sites. Yes differently return at some point!! Access to a lot of restaurants, all kinds of attractions, food places to eat .Beach not far away!!We had good weather as well.

It's rare that you get a beach with barely anyone on it. Vast expanse of beach and ocean. Very quiet and magical. Parking seemed to be an issue, but we walked there. Would recommend.

Not impressed with Wells beach . When high tide is in there is hardly anywhere to lay a blanket. It is rocky and crowded. Much prefer any of the other local beaches. Easily accessed on trolley during summer. Parking a nightmare during peak times

We went to wells beach almost everyday. The parking is ample and free you just need to be patient as someone is always coming or going. Bathroom facilities are clean and easy to get to from the beach. Great moonrise.....never got up for the sunrise but I’ve heard it’s great too. High tide is very important. You don’t want to get set up too close to the water if you plan on staying through high tide or you’ll end up moving a few times. The water was cold but not unbearable enough not to go in for a dip or two.

Wells Beach is the perfect family beach. We have been coming here for 30 years. There are tide pools and rocks for the kids to explore and when the tide is right, there is plenty of beach. Nice shops and restaurant and even free parking if you get there early!

beach was very clean and quiet. Lots of room for kids to swim and wave surf. Water was clean and warm. Will come back for sure.

One of the best beaches in Maine, IMO. Walking from one side to the rocks at the end is about a mile armed a favorite for everyone! Early morning before 9a, pets are allowed to walk or play on the sand it's awesome to see dogs playing in the surf. The water is cold and the waves are big but it's worth getting in if only for a moment! Wells Beach is the best part of staying in Wells!

Wells beach was nice. Luckily we stayed at one of the condos and had parking! Public parking is like, non existent!

This is among my top five favorite beaches. When in Wells heading south on route 1, take a left before the Hannaford Plaza. Drive all the way down the road until you see the beach, and park in the parking area, which does get busy in the summer months. If you are staying at the Belleview hotel, it is a short walk to this beach and no need to worry about parking. There are a couple of little shops and restaurants to buy fried clams for lunch, or a kite to play with on the beach. On several different occasions, we were fortunate to spot wildlife at this beach, including a small shark, a seal pup, and a Northern Right Whale. There are also many gulls, sea ducks, terns, and sandpipers. The main stairway area also has viewscopes to use and benches if you care to sit and enjoy the breeze.

I went to Wells Beach in early June 2024. I was excited to see The Atlantic Ocean. I had apparently seen it before but I did not remember. So to me this was a first. The weather was absolute perfection! Sunny day, strong wind coming off the water, no noticeable humidity, and 64 degrees (F). Towards the water there was a kind of like concrete observation deck looking out over the ocean with benches, a railing and steps on each side going down to the beach. At high tide the ocean is only a few feet from the bottom of the stairs and the beach appears rocky. Great photo opportunities on top and down below. There is a great shop named The Beachcomber. I already gave them a great review but I will say that is a wonderful shop! So many different kinds of souvenirs and the employees were very nice. Headed away from the observation area is a path marked Public Walkway. That leads to the actual sand beach. It is really beautiful! The people I talked to were all very friendly. Back near the observation deck when the tide goes out is when the sandy beach is revealed. Then the people will come out to the that side of the beach to explore, lay out, play with their kids and pets. Tide going out also revealed a little rocky area to explore. There were tide pools complete with some little creatures swimming around in them. Unfortunately my visit to Wells Beach was only a few hours. If I had it to plan again I would absolutely spend at least one night there to take it all in. It was so beautiful. All of the people I talked to were very nice. I hope to make it back someday with some time to spend!

10- 10- 10 rating on Good Sam well deserved. Place is well kept inviting and staff very accommodating

Was able to have a good walk at low tide and see nice sunrises each morning. There were people out fishing and on paddle boards each day.

Wells beach is beautiful - clean and great for walking at low tide. The water comes way up at high tide leaving little room so plan accordingly. We had a wonderful morning relaxing, walking and swimming.

I haven't been to Wells in years...just as beautiful as I remember. Close to everything, beaches, great restaurants, the best place in Maine to stay.

Beatiful beach, to walk on or just admire from street promenade. Tends to disappear at high tide but the rocks and birds on them are a very pretty sight.

After having an impossible time trying to park at the Kennebunkport beach and the Ogunquit beach, Wells beach was absolutely beautiful and easily accessed. It is well kept, you can get a bite or drink nearby, and it is a large easy to walk beach.

The surrounding area was beautiful even though the beach was closed, I really enjoyed the walk with my wife.

Great beach can park for free beautiful landscape with rocks and areas for crabbing highly recommend

This beach is spacious, especially at low tide. It has a very gradual and shallow water depth for playing in the surf. My husband has always enjoyed "body surfing" in the waves at Wells since he was a child. This is a great beach for small children who can play in tidal pools or dig in the sand, and there is usually enough space for older children to play beach football. I have seen many adults set up a bocce game.
You won't be disappointed here.

Every time I come to Wells one of the first things we do is go to the beach to watch the waves come in and out. It is so calming and enjoyable.

Went to this beach for the first time ever and had a great time. Easy walk from our hotel. The beach is mostly hard pack sand maki g it perfect for walking, running or playing on. The water was wonderful and not cold. Areas of rocks for finding crabs and other treasures. If you don't enjoy crowds this probably isn't for you. If you don't mind you'll have a great time.

Go here to enjoy a long 1.5 mile walk each way, especially at low tide. Water is nice, but cold (typical of Maine). No facilities. Some paid parking and a take out place right there.

clean, crisp cold water and sand ! what more can a girl ask for. Nothing beats the New England Coast

Lots of restaurants and shops nearby. We were on a quick trip, but have been many times before and always come back.

Nice quiet beach. Everyone was socially distanced and everyone respected everyone else's space without ever having to say anything

The beach is clean even if the water is a little bit cold. Very good to take a walk on the beach....

Beautiful beach goes on and on very clean and a great walk. Places to sit and watch the waves come crashing in

Parking lot does fill up on summer weekends and it is a long walk to the beach. Once you get there, it is really very nice. This year we actually saw a whale jump out of the water! The water is between 60-68 degrees and I swam quite a bit this summer!
There is a fee to park

Went to Wells Beach with friends and even though morning temps in the high 30's it was still geautiful to walk the beach and see the sunrise

Beautiful New England beach. Visited the end of June and was blessed perfect weather yet a very uncrowded beach!

Average Beach. A little difficult to find and get to. Fun to walk on the beach. Very commercialized in the area. Difficult to find a parking spot.

This is the perfect time to visit Wells Beach while things are quiet and you can really enjoy the beauty of the beach. Long stretch of clean, sandy ocean front.

We visited this beach upon arriving in Wells on a Sunday afternoon in late July. We luckily found a parking spot in the relatively small lot and were able to walk down the beach to the south. The tide was coming in so we had to turn around before too long but it was a nice walk. We then visited the next morning but the lot was already full by 9 am. We drove down Atlantic Ave to the public parking all the way at the end and found a good spot. The walk to the beach area was longer but we found a spot with the tide going out and stayed for a few hours. Parking was $3/hour, not too bad. We're not usually beach people so our two-hour stay was enough for one day.

Absolutely love Wells Beach! The people are friendly, waves are spectacular, and scenery is breath taking and addictive. Fishing, climbing the rock breakwater, surfing, kayaking, kite flying, food, arcade, playground, Wells Beach place has it all.

We were pleased that this beach was not crowded when we went there on 2 occasions. Nice gentle surf early in the mornings for the little ones with more aggressive waves in the afternoon for the big kids. Cute little shops also. Best way to get there is by using the trolley due to lack of parking space.

Nice beach, we had a place in the (only) free parking witch was good for us! The water is pretty cold but a swim was still appreciated on a hot sunny day. I would say though that the sand is not as soft as the one we found in Ogunquit!!

Had a nice walk on the beach on a beautiful fall day. Can't wait to go back in the summer for vacation

There was a lot of seaweed, but that was due to a storm out in the ocean. The waves were great for buggy boarding, There is ample parking.

Very nice beach but the parking availability and access to the beach is so-so. Need to get to the beach early (no later than 8:30) to get free parking. Access to the beach can be tricky for anyone with mobility issues. These are real drawbacks for such a nice beach.

Wells main beach is a nice beach but it is crowded. The parking is tough and unless you get there very early you are out of luck. Even the town parking lot fills up quickly. It is best to go during low tide as there is not much sand during high tide.

Wells beach makes me happy. The beach is quiet, clean and beautiful. It's so relaxing just wading in the ocean, feeling the sand move under your feet, then taking a nice walk down to the point, looking for shells and pretty stones along the way. I could stay at the beach forever! The sunrises are spectacular as the sun appears to be rising up from the ocean, a bright red orange globe with a sky of different colors each day....truly breathtaking. At high tide the waves crash as the surf comes into shore and the sandy beach magically disappears until the tides take the water back out to sea, returning the beach for sun worshippers to enjoy. It's amazing how the tides come and go....it makes you respect the mighty ocean.

Nice Beach watch people surfing in November when it was called out I'm sure it's great and summertime when it's warm

We love coming to Wells Beach and stay at a motel on the beach. The sound of the ocean is so peaceful and warching the tide change is amazing. When the tide id out there’s lots of space for waliking, playing, sunbathing.

This place is great- any time of day or night and any time of year. Accessible from many locations from Ogunquit beach to parking areas in Wells.

Great escape for a long weekend. Will be back with the kids! Central to beaches and other attractions.

I love Wells beach! I have often come here to see the sunrise and this particular beach has the perfect horizon to see just that. The beach is also dog friendly between specific hours which is great when traveling with pets. There are always plenty of seashells and pretty rocks on the shore to collect during a nice long walk on the beach. If you're lucky, you might even see a porpoise or a seal early morning or late in the evening when there are no boats around or noisy tourists. Parking is free in the lot if you can find a space. This is my #1 favorite beach of all time and I visit it every time I travel to Maine.

Wells beach is long and can vary in your experience from one end to the other. For us, the parking lot with the shops, food, bathrooms, and short staircase to the rocky beach where you can explore the pools and critters as the tide goes out is THE Wells beach.
When you drive into the small FREE parking lot, you naturally expect it to be full. When you are lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time as someone is leaving, and you get their parking space, it is elating! The temperature was perfect, the sun was shining, and there was a great breeze making this day in beach chairs awesome. The aroma of the fried foods is drool worthy. Years ago, as kids we would stay from 9am to 5pm and ride the waves all day. Now it's a couple of hours in the sun and people watching and on to the next thing, which was Kennebunkport.
The other type of Wells beach experience is the lot a mile down the beach, which is also often full, but you pay once you are able to park. There is a good hike to the water, and there is more sand and a jetty to walk out on, but not our first choice.

Most of the Maine coast is rocky. This area has over a mile of sandy beach. They have some tide pools, but we did not see any critters in the pools. In October there are lots of people walking the beach.

This is a very calm relaxing place to go if your looking for a getaway without all the noise, romantic getaway place. Took my Husband here for his Birthday and ended up staying an extra 2 nights! Went for 4th of July weekend and had a great time as well. We were ready to book another night but My Daughter called and she was in labor so we left immediately. Went one more time for lunch My Birthday and again, nice calm and relaxing time.

Wow what a beautiful beach, great sand lots of space to spread out and great place to walk for miles. I walked 2 miles along the beach with perfect sand hardly a rock to be found. Great waves, and refreshing chilly water. Great for biggie boards or body surfing but don't stay in to long without a wet suit.

Nice beach , big waves. Right on trolley route, short waking distance to beach. Ample paid parking available. Rest is nearby.

Went here for a wedding. Great photo ops!! Lots of beachfront walking!! Will enjoy returning one day!

I’ve been coming to Wells Beach for years. I love the dramatic high and low tides that either erase or grow the beach to be a half a mile wide. We walk it at sunrise and sunset, depending on the tide. I live to search for sea glass and listen to the waves. There are always lots of families, and Forbes has lobster rolls and ice-cream nearby!

You'll find everything you need in Wells, including the lovely, friendly beach. The parking is a short walk from the beach, as are the restroom facilities. Be sure to pack your picnic as there are no concessions. The drive to the beach is through some pretty wetlands and a cottage area.

We enjoyed the sunrise here just after Hurricane Dorian passed by off the coast. The waves were amazing. Lots of quaint motels, hotels, restaurants and activities. We will come back.

Wonderful sandy beach. Great for long walks when the tide is low. Pleasantly enjoyed. It was not crowded at all when we were there in late September

The beach is beautiful with nice soft powdery sand. The restroom is decent and there just off the parking lot. There is a good restaurant named Forbes there and they have ice cream to keep you cool. Some cute shops nearby and a small arcade.

Not overcrowded, clean, clear water. Wish the water was warmer. Family trip and first time to this beach. It was nice and our kids had fun. No complaints.

Walking northward, there is plenty of sand, surf and rocks.
Walking southward; there are more rocks and shortly a point.

Had a. Beautiful day at wells beach. It is a bit of a walk from the parking lot to the beach, but it is woth it. There is a mesh walkway which does make it easier. There is a breakwater to explore and decent waves for boogie boarding. Overall clean, although some seaweed

great beach to walk at night, during the day be aware of tide schedule. limited parking up but even with a resident sticker always seem to score a spot so circle a few times.

Wells beach doesn't get the notoriety of the Ogunquit beach but it is very family friendly, the sand is clean. Just time your visit to avoid high tide as this leaves little beach area.

Very nice place for a family to spend the day. Lots of pickings on the rocks when tide is out. Quiet with snacks nearby , clean bathrooms and quaint shops.

My wife and I traveled for a weekend trip to this beach. The sand was nice, and the water was clear and beautiful. The only downside was that where we were near the hotels. At this certain spot the tide come at least halfway up the beach which packed us in like sardines for a couple of hours. If you walk further down the beach this probably would not be a problem. Idk if I'd go back to Maine over all. I'm more of a south jersey shore type of guy just bc the ocean is warmer down there.

Just what the family needed. Quiet beach not overcrowded. Will need to pack a cooler for lunch / snacks. Water cool but refreshing. Enjoyed some down time, loved the scenery, and lobster from local market after the beach

Beach was crowded with families and had some debris. The facilities were perfect and the closeness to town was great, walking distance. Parking fees are a bit steep.

It's a great beach - there's quite a few free parking spaces, bathroom, food, magazines whatever - t-shirts, chocolates...lots of things. You also can pay for parking if you don't get there early especially in the summer time....by early I mean by 7:30 at the latest.....great beach!!!

What a great beach- great access / parking and miles of sandy beach to stroll along and back - great views and some lovely beach huts as well - would recommend a visit - beats Cornwall I think….

The beach was beautiful and very spacious (especially at low tide). The lifeguards were attentive and very friendly. The only reason I am giving it a 4 is .. that it was not clear where parking was available. Luckily we followed a very long road ‘away from’ the hotels and what looked to be parking and finally the long road ended in a large parking area that was pay by the hour. The parking area had change areas and bathrooms which was a bonus. Then a walk to the beach along break waters. Enjoyed the day and the waves :)

I've heard people say that if you want to experience Cape Cod (Massachusetts) the way it used to be in the 1960s, go to Southern Maine. And I'm with that! The Cape has gotten really crowded and commercial. Wells has gotten commercial too. But it's still a nice place to go, with plenty of seaside amusements, with a beach that hints at the old seashore experience. At dusk, when the sun is setting to the west, it is almost jaw-dropping to look out over all the little home and roofs from the beach to the shore; it's like one of those artsy posters. Enjoy this big, long beach and it's defining breakwater.

We went to the beach specifically to let the dog play. Great beach, 7 miles of sand. Dogs can go on the beach in the summer before 8AM and after 6PM. This is enforced. Parking can be difficult.

This beach was one of the best I have been on! What a great small town. I was expecting a smaller beach but it was really nice. Not as crowded as one would think for July!

We paid $30 to park right at the beach. It was a beautiful day and it is a beautiful beach. The sand is packed and hard at low tide so if you put your towel down it will get wet. You can sit back on the sand but it is quite a distance from the water. The water was quite chilly and we only went in up to our knees. We were there from 930 to 3 o'clock and could have even stayed longer. There are quite a few people but it's a very family oriented beach and comfortable to be there. I would definitely recommend it and do it again if I were there. There are a few places to eat right there so that you don't have to move your car. This is important because there are no in and out privileges on the parking. A great day at the beach!

Great place to visit. Stayed at Lafayettes Resort. Beach is great for walking and enjoying low tide!

It’s a beach, in Maine. What more could you ask for. The tides are wild. The beach sand is nice. Worth a visit.

Very nice beach... two different sections... off main road it was rocky... if you make left onto Atlantic Ave. and go to end.. it is a nice sandy beach with rock pier that goes out into ocean.

This review is for an October stay. I cant imagine the summer crowds, as we are retired and enjoy the off season.
We stayed at the Lafayette hotel group 3 different times. The beach right outside the door is perfect, the people minimal, our room and ocean view perfect! Be sure to eat at The Steak House. An amazing and critic worthy establishment and a lovely memorable dinner.
Sunrises over the ocean here are simply brilliant, and the crisp fall days are spectacular. Wells Diner is a perfect breakfast spot, and the little adjoining gift shop is fun and reasonably priced. Perkins cove is not far, and a walking trail is the best memory accompanying a lobster roll and a blueberry soda. Many book stores, antique shops and fun things to see in this entire area.
Each year we discover new beautiful spots to marvel over .Maine in fall is a true travel experience not to be overlooked.

This is a beautiful beach but it gets very crowded. There is not a lot of parking. There are shops and restaurants in walking distance.

Visited in late October. Happened to have a warm, sunny few days. Hardly anybody on the beach. It's long and very walkable when the tide is lower. High tide can be challenging in spots. Enough things were open so we could find places to eat and shop. It is quite beautiful.

So beautiful and tranquil it’s Absolutely amazing! It’s one of those places where you will always remember!

We stayed in the area for two days and liked this beach. Not too crowded at all! We previously tried Ogunquit and couldn’t find a parking spot. Skip Ogunquit and go to Wells.

By stopping at the beach you can see all kinds of sights from Surfers to kyackers, to people just strolling on the beach to people sitting on the rocks enjoying the surf.Maine beaches are so different than what many people are use to so take a picnic lunch and just enjoy your day.

took my wife to the Maine coast and decided that Wells/Ogunquit wa the place to set up for a few days. found the beach to be a very nice place to go after the day crowds have disbursed. walked the beach at sundown and listened to the waves off the atlantic ocean roll in while holding my wifes hand. what a great moment for us to remember.

great beach with beautiful waves from hurricane Larry. lots of lobster traps on beach from storm. weather wae beautiful. Couldn't have been a nicer vacation.

Fine sand beach with some stones. Not usually crowded. Friendly folks. Families. All in all, a nice non-commercial place to visit. Sunrises and sunsets can't be beat. Best place for relaxing.

First off great beach but to many dogs using beach as their toilet. People think everyone wants to meet their dog, SORRY I don't! While sitting there people allowing their dog to come right up to us, while Im on vacation I dont want to meet, smell, or touch you dog. Respect others space with your dogs please.

Go here all the time. Summer - Winter weather permitting. Love watching the waves when a storm is on the way. Or just sitting on the beach listening to the waves.

Clean, lots of space and a must go! This was our first Maine beach experience and it was wonderful! Not too many people. Parking is $20 for the day which seems a bit high to me but overall, I loved the experience and will come again!

Good choice of places to eat beautiful beaches
Leave early to avoid traffic on rt 1
Plenty of beaches to choose from all close to wells

My family loves the beach here and how clean it is and how nice the sand is, love ithe waves.Love walking the beach here its relaxing.

Parking near impossible. Same as all the beaches though More todo and see on York beaches but this is better if you want some quiet

My kids are the 5th generation to come here you could say it’s in our DNA! So beautiful to just sit, stand or walk and chill out!

Great place to visit on your way to Kennebunk. Nice beach to stop. Cute seaside area with lovely homes. Sand and rocks and soft waves. No restroom or changing area. There is a portapotty. Parking on street is limited and metered.

My family absolutely loves this beach. Wells beach is clean, comfortable, easy to get to, bath houses near the bridge are great.

Drove to the beach just as it was getting dark. The weather had been nasty and the wind was kicking up. The waves were crashing against the rocks in the dim light. It made for a wild and awesome scene. It obviously wasn't the time for stroll on the beach.

A beautiful beach with a handicap accessible and dog friendly part down by the breakwater. I only wish the steps on the end by Layfette's went all the way to the sand without having to climb over the rocks. Beautiful Beach!!

We have been coming here since our kids were little. Now we come here with our grandchildren. It is nice that you can walk to everything. If you want park your car at your hotel, and not touch it until you leave you can.

This was my first visit to Wells Beach. It's mostly private homes on the beach so there's a sense of serenity. No need to worry about high rise condos or hotels here. Lovely Atlantic Ocean with powdery sand and terrific for walking. If the water had been warmer I would have swam. There's a fee for parking but well worth it, one can easily spend a few hours here breathing in the salt air and admiring the beauty of the area.

The recent storms have taken their toll on this little beach town. The roads are all torn up and there are very few people around. Very sad to see, hoping they will rebuild soon. We even stopped by the lobster pound and the kitchen was not open at 11:30am. Try York or Ogunquit beaches instead.
nice beach, parking will be tough
We went in off-season, walked on the beach. If in season, no way will you find free parking, maybe lucky to find paid parking.
