We took our granddaughter and had a great time. In addition to the animals, there are several playgrounds for the kids and some pretty gardens. It's a small zoo, nicely laid out with everything well-cared for. In addition to some wild animals, there are also farm animals to feed and pet. We went in the morning, as many animals "hide" in the afternoon shade when it gets warm out. We rented a stroller, which was nice. Next time, we'll bring some water and snacks.

ZooMontana is amazing. We took our grandkids to the zoo and I think we had a better time than they did. This is a very special place. The zoo has been significantly improved since I was there last. One of the best things was how busy the zoo was and the other people we ran into. It turned out to be a great social activity. Thank you ZooMontana for a wonderful and memorable day with our grandkids.

The zoo is located in a beautiful setting, and is an enjoyable 45-60 minute walk. There is some construction going on, but overall, we had a nice walk around.

This zoo has had a number of problems over the years so there aren't as many animals as there should be. What they have are in fairly natural enclosures.

Perhaps when I think of a zoo, I like to think of elephants, giraffes, lions, tigers, and educational exhibits. This "zoo" had two tigers...and that's about it. Taking the family there for the first time seemed like a good idea. We spent about an hour walking through the zoo only to see animals that you could see just driving through the local mountains or Yellowstone. They had a few grizzly bears, two tigers, a red panda, two bald eagles, a few river otters, a beaver, some random reptiles, and...quite honestly that is about it. Throw in a couple farm animals that you can literally see anywhere in the state and, there you have it folks, ZooMontana. My daughter loved it, but she is 2 years old, so I suppose if you want to amuse your kids for an hour or so, it is worth it. Don't expect to be amused as an adult though. The animal enclosures look old and outdated, some of the animals looked a little malnourished (although I am no expert), and the gift shop was slim pickins. There was just no redeeming value here to even justify the $8 admission fee. I guess there is only so much you can expect from a zoo in this part of the country but this fell short of even my lowest expectations. Just don't waste your time. If you want to see wildlife, just drive through Yellowstone or something. What a disappointment.

What a wonderful smaller zoo to spend a few hours walking through. The new animals and exhibits are great. DO NOT miss the LAUGHING KOOKABURRA!! The adorable Red Pandas and majestic Amur Tigers are beautiful and love an audience. Bring the whole family and enjoy!

I recently visited this zoo. The grounds are beautiful with a few different gardens to peruse and a cute little "petting zoo" type section of barnyard animals. The koi fish pond was my favorite by far and my children loved all the different animals.

The Cons- we visited in summer. It was miserably hot. They did have a few benches scattered throughout the park that offered either shade or rest; very few offered both. And the mosquitoes. Every time we sat down I had a new bug bite- as did one or both of my kids. Between the three of us we walked away with 8 new itchy bites.

This zoo, in my opinion, would benefit greatly by installing some misting stations and some bug repellants.

I've been to a lot of US zoos during my lifetimes, so I am a little jaded. I think that the staff of ZooMontana has done some really good work at improving what was a very disappointing experience a few years ago. Kudos to the new management. Keep improving! It is a little pricey to get into for such a small number of animals, but I will give them credit for the nice play area for little kids and the exhibits of smaller species.

I recently took my grandchildren to ZooMontana and I absolutely enjoyed it as much as they did! I love the way they have done so much to put the animals in a more natural habitat -- it's a great way to educate children to love and protect animals and to enjoy the exhibits. The landscaping is so beautiful with many spaces to sit, relax, and enjoy. There are trails throughout the park for leisurely walking or, if you prefer, to enjoy a brisk walk! All I could think of was "why did I wait to have grandbabies to spend time out here!" If you enjoy this sort of activity, I highly recommend ZooMontana!

This is a small zoo but nonetheless has a good variety of interesting animals. The animals are generally indigenous to the Northern Plains or are from similar habitats. There is a small portion dedicated to typical domestic farm animals. It's a great place to take young children and is easy hiking for we older people. There are ample spots to sit and view the wildlife or just rest. The 4 river otters are in constant motion and are great to watch. It's not particularly expensive. We went with our daughter who volunteers there and she was able to answer most questions we had. The only downside was that there did not appear to be any staff out in the animal areas so it would otherwise have been difficult to ask questions. We visited on a Saturday morning.

I've been to an awful lot of zoos and I do enjoy them in fact I have very fond memories of the Red Lodge Zoo when I was a child this is you and Billings however has been open for many years and just never seems to gain any traction. People work there and some of them make a lot of money but they never seem to have much in the way of animals, the grounds are pretty nice at times but I could go to a garden and get the same experience.

Its been about 10 years since my last visit and they've added some great exhibits. The zoo is smaller than a big city zoo bit all of it is paid for by private donations, not publicly funded. I especially enjoyed the bears and the numerous smaller exhibits inside. I think the price is right for a couple of hours.

By richard n |

I was at the zoo as my child's company was having a picnic for employees & there
families. Sadly, I overheard a group of 8 out of towner's talking among themselves.
They were disappointed in the condition of the grounds and the lack of animals out in the open areas of their confines. So I walked around and had to agree with them.Plus
I noticed a couple dead trees with the names of donors still in display at the base of the
dead trees. Two of the travelers requested their entry fee be returned, but were told no. I believe the zoo now has new leaders, so changes for the better may be happening

The boo at the Zoo is fun and going when the weather is nice is a great time to get out of the house. Not a four star zoo but nice to have in a smaller mountain town. It's okay- never became a member because I didn't see the value.

We come to the zoo a couple times a year. This year we came with my nephews preschool and then later with the child information thing (early child intervention, head start, shrine's, etc.)

My boys love the play area of the park. They liked the bears and the otters as well. They wanted to get in with the water foul. The volunteers there that day also brought out a snake for the boys to see. Since we home school, we also did a bunch of education about animals and habitats.

I heard someone say "what a charming little zoo". I am glad that the zoo does such a good job considering it doesn't get tax money. I have been to a couple of breeding zoos in other parts of the country. Although we don't have elephants and Lions, the enclosures are nicer than those of most other places.

By Maalawaala |

I really wish we didn't have this zoo. The exhibits are so small and there's like 30 animals. I guess it's a good children's activity since it's small and had a play park but I feel so bad for the animals, especially the beavers, like, give them the water fowl exhibit since it's so much bigger.

By Mike N |

Zoomontana does have grizzly bears and tigers but the grounds are lacking. It would make a world of difference if they could get proper funding. It is a great place to take little kids.

By Connie C |

There are limited animals at the zoo with a lot of new exhibits apparently in the works. We enjoyed the peacocks, Koi pond, aka farm area where my husband needed quarters to feed the animals and fish! We liked seeing the gray wolf up close as well as the tigers. The bears were funny with one resting in a hammock, the red panda is cute and the Big Horn goat babies were cute! It just got too hot to stay and enjoy the gardens.

By MinotGirl |

It's a small and reasonably priced zoo. Everything looked nice, the enclosures looked clean and the animals looked healthy. A few of the animals were no shows, but there's not much that can be done about that. The sensory garden was beautiful. The visitors center is small but has some cool animal exhibits in it too. Our small kids loved this zoo so it was well worth the trip.

By Lin V |

Just went there today, again! This zoo has rescue animals that would have been put down otherwise. They have eagles which are so pretty and the grizzly bears are fun to watch. They have a couple of tigers and Lynx, red panda's, beaver and otter's and wolves. Also, they have a homestead home and barn with animals such as goats, horses chicken's etc plus peacock's. The volunteers keep the grounds up and have beautiful gardens throughout the walk around the zoo. Well worth going.

By Jeff F |

We had a great time at the zoo. It was fun to stroll around looking at the animals. My highlight were the wolves, they were howling! It is a nice family stop.

By Cynthia G |

We visited this zoo a couple years ago and loved it, so we decided to return. We love all the green space and the animals were quiet active each visit. This visit a few areas were bring upgraded or changed which is a bummer but we still love the zoo and the people are super friendly as well. I do wish there was staff in areas to educate us on different things but otherwise always a great experience.

By Hope G |

Had a great time just walking around and enjoying the quiet atmosphere. So relaxing.
I really enjoy the tigers and wolves.

By Alicia C |

Love the beautiful scenery/landscape, the paths are very well maintained. Right at the beginning they have a board of what happenings will be going on - bear feedings __ time; otter demonstration __ time, etc. Love being able to feed fish, ducks, chickens, goats and sheep. Always will wish they are open in the evenings as we can only go on weekends since we work.

By Tina1962_12 |

ZooMontana is a great little zoo. Not to rushed so you can sit and enjoy the exhibits for as long as you like. A very relaxed atmosphere, "zen place"

By Thom M |

ZooMontana a small, but good zoo considering it is privately funded. They have nice exhibits and habitats, a new playground, and they are working on a new event pavilion. If you're expecting a large zoo with hundreds of animals, you're looking in the wrong place. But if you're looking for a nice place to take the kids for a few hours, you should enjoy it.

By Lori F |

The description online is not indicative of the place. It's one step up from a petting zoo. We walked around the entire place in under an hour going slow. There are two bears, two tigers and literally a few other animals....like less that 10.

By Nandid |

This "zoo" is not worth the money. They have a few animals. And most of the time you can't even see what they have. Lots of broken down or empty exhibits.

My kiddos don't even consider this a zoo.
Youngest says we need a "real" zoo.

It's a.nice walk. But not all the bridges and pathways are disability friendly. Some pathways are not paved.

Sensory gardens here are beautiful. Probably one of the only good things about the zoo

No place to get a snack on the grounds at all. So don't expect to get anything to eat or drink while ur here.

By melanie a |

This is a zoo in progress, so there was a lot of construction going on. I recommend going early in the morning before it gets too hot outside, so the animals will be stirring. The walking paths are wide, the flower gardens are lovely, so this is a good opportunity to get out and breathe some fresh air in addition to seeing tigers and bears. The enclosures are really better than a lot I've seen, very spacious with good use of live trees. The only suggestion I have would be to include plaques for all of the critters explaining what their names are, when they were born, and how they came to live at the zoo, and then possibly putting up a sign or two around the construction area explaining what's being added to give people enticement to return.

We visited the Zoo at Billings while traveling with our families including grandchildren ranging in age from 2-10. It was perfect for the three and under crowd, not too long, easily walkable. They enjoyed the farmyard the most. I was a little surprised not to see much wildlife native to Montana.
The bathrooms were clean and there is a nice little store.

By DeliaW2 |

I really enjoyed taking my parents to the zoo. I would have to say that mornings is the best time to go during the summer.

By MissGab |

This zoo is very kid friendly. The animals were moving around even on a hot day. My 4 year old nephew had a great time trying to find the animals and always made sure there were two and a bathing area. The setting is wooded and clean. We spent 2 & 1/2hours there.

By AmyBillings_Montana |

We have been to many zoos across the country and this one rates among the best. The zoo is spread out with a tree-filled setting along a beautiful creek. The animals are in large fenced areas rather than the typical cages. Inside the main building there are great displays of insects and other small creatures, and there's a barn filled with farm animals that can be easily seen by very young children. The zoo lacks a restaraunt but there are picnic tables close to the children's playground. Strollers are available to rent. Don't miss this attraction!

By Bonnie M |

Zoo Montana is small, but the animals look really well cared for. They seem to be updating and have already updated several enclosures. I didn't see any of the animals pacing. Don't miss the kookaburra (Australian bird) in the main building. He was very chatty with visitors. The grizzlies were playing together. The otters were adorable and wrestling in the water. It seems like a fun place to take young kids.

By Mike Y |

This is a perfect way to spend a couple of hours and get a bit of exercise in too. It isn't a large zoo but is pretty big for a small town like Billings. It has a broad range of different kinds of animals and exhibits with information and facts about each one. It is a bit spread out so you don't feel as if the animals are "packed" in there so you get a nice walk in if you want to see the whole thing.

By Vernest G |

I love this place. I want to say that before I say that I wish there was more to take in here. It's not a flashy zoo, or a well-manicured garden, but it's just enough fun to be worth exploring.

By randkbara |

Their animals are well cared for. Their living area is kept clean. The staff and zoo director Jeff are just great people. They have things going on their like concerts and things.

By Jill R |

Not many Montana animals but they do have Grizzlies wolves and bighorn. The river otters were fun to watch. My daughter enjoyed achieving the Jr Zookeeper patch and learned a lot while doing the booklet

By Q2300WSsarahc |

A lovely little zoo worth a half day of your time. More, if you want to sketch some animals. Great viewing opportunities. They animals are housed in very realistic settings and much of the zoo grounds are given over to wild growth, giving the feeling of being in the thick of things as you travel between exhibits. A bit hilly, not bad, but enough that pushing a stroller up them was noticeable.

By Brian C |

A great little Zoo with a good representation of local and regional critters. Well run, clean and attractive. A great family stop

By Lauren F |

My husband and children walked the zoo and enjoyed seeing all the animals the visitor center is the gift shop and also has animals in there also

By JasonHamrick |

Great little local zoo with unique animals of the local and global variety. Well maintained walking paths and a great sensory garden. Interactive center and gift store to satisfy old and young alike. Staff at Zoo Montana is always pleasant and welcoming. Jeff and crew have done a great job making this local attraction fun to visit and a great spot for events.

I love visiting zoos. This zoo is a great place to bring Lil ones! We stayed a Lil over an hr with our 7 and 3 year old. Animals look loved and well taken care of. Lots of new things being made :-) the kids play area is perfect! We didn't bring change to feed the ducks 👎 admission prices are just right. Definitely a zoo to check out.

By Heather Z |

We visited the zoo with my daughter's Brownie Troop. I was very impressed with both the quality of the exhibits and also the professionalism of the volunteers who accompanied us. The zoo is set up like a walkway through a large park, with exhibits spaced out nicely. The animals seemed happy and well cared for. The volunteer who accompanied us was very knowledgeable, and she did not hesitate to set the girls straight when they started to get a bit loud. This is not a big zoo, but I really felt that they did an excellent job with the animals and exhibits that they have.

By MTforLife |

I'm not really sure what I think of the zoo. It should be renamed because it doesn't really fit the vision most people have of a zoo. Its more of a nature walk with some animals to view here and there. It feels run down, this could be due to the financial troubles of the zoos past, but you can see where they are make improvements. The staff is unwelcoming/distant which doesn't help the impression left on guests. When the zoo first opened many years ago it was a very nice place to take kids.
I was disappointed that the red panda was not out. That was the one animal I wanted to see. Maybe next time. My grandson got bored pretty quickly (3 yrs) and just wanted to play at the playground. He was set on seeing a peacock, no idea why, but he was, bummer the zoo has none. We would visit again but probably not anytime soon.

By terriwe |

We visited to pass the time, and loved it. We were there in winter, but it was 50' The animals were great to see and getting ready for Spipring. Would love to return when warmer !A great inexpensive way to spend and afternoon

By cheeseheadfamilyof4 |

It was a very hot afternoon, but we stopped here and enjoyed a walk around the zoo. They have a new takin exhibit. I had never heard of a takin, let alone seen one. I was fascinated. The sensory garden is also worth a stop--beautiful flowers and fountains. A nice little zoo!

By Stephanie L |

We loved this zoo and would definitely visit often if we were from the area. We appreciated the relaxed atmosphere and beautiful landscaping throughout the zoo. The exhibits were well taken care of and the animals had good sized enclosures. Overall we found this zoo to be a pleasant place to visit and wished it was closer to our home as I'd live to bring my Grandchildren to visit!!

By hkg0343 |

Never saw this plant before!! It actually looks like an egg. Can be white or one was yellow. Unique and fun!! Saw the wolves and bears we missed seeing at Yellowstone!!

By hck317 |

I love walking around and seeing the animals. The bears are my favorite!
The beauty of Montana is all around this Zoo is very special to Billings, Mt

By K89M |

Does this zoo have hundreds of exotic animals? No. But what it does have are a handful of very loved mostly local animals who have huge habitats to roam and aren't confined to a small cage with no vegetation and fake rocks. The nature walk to visit each exhibit around the grounds are worth the admission by itself. I've been to big city zoos and seeing the animals happy in their natural habitat is much better than seeing a miserable animal in a small cage. Love this zoo and all the wonderful things they do with and for the Billings Community! Pack a lunch, spend a day, and enjoy the wonderful natural atmosphere of ZooMontana!

By Connie v |

This little zoo in Billings is worth seeing for sure. It has a beautiful park like feeling and animal enclosures look comfortable and accommodating for the animals. The price for admission was very reasonable. Mostly there are indigenous animals like grizzly bears, otters, beavers and wolves but also some exotic animals like the red panda from Asia. The zoo is working on a new site from wolverines. We had a wonderful time at this nice, little zoo.

By Stitt1061 |

We took our 3 kids there (ages 12, 10 and 4). It is a small zoo but they do have animals local to the area like Bald Eagles, Bobcats, Grizzly bears, etc. It was nice to see some of those animals that we usually don't see at our local zoo. The area near the barn was fun for the kids as they enjoyed feeding the goats and they also enjoyed the playground. It was another hot day and it would have been nice to see a drink machine farther back in the zoo because we didn't have anything to drink with us. The only place we were able to find any drinks was when you first enter the zoo.

By Linda F |

The zoo is also a botanical garden/park with paved trails, well marked attractions and real natural habitat for the animals. Plan to spend the day.

By Mary K |

ZooMontana is a local treasure and one we should all support. It is a small zoo in a northern climate, and there are limitations to what is has to offer. It offers an up-close view of some very special native Montana species, and some exotics, as well. The red pandas are sweet, the tigers are amazing.
My two favorite attractions are the river otters and the botanical garden. The first are fun and playful, the second is serene and under-visited.
We always have fun visiting the barnyard animals and looking for the peacocks. Visiting the zoo is a great way to support the work the zoo does, and a relaxing way to spend an afternoon.

By Barbara O |

each year they r improving on the zoo. Getting more animals all the time. Grounds are beautifully kept and love the natural environment of the zoo.

By Scott406 |

What makes ZooMontana special isn't the total number of animals. (It is a zoo in a smaller city that is one of the few in the country that is not publicly funded, after all.) What sets this zoo apart from many others is the setting. Between the otters and the red pandas, and so forth, is a nature trail that feels like a walk in the park, rather than just moving through enclosures. The animals housed cover nearly all the creatures that lived in the area before Lewis and Clark first set foot in Montana (highlighted by the grizzly bears), but the biggest stars are arguably the Siberian tigers... so popular they have their own license plate.

Many of the animals are more active in cooler weather, while the garden area is a gorgeous setting for weddings during the summer. In the last few years, the zoo has hosted a growing number of events for families, from trick-or-treating to ren-fairs.

By Shane O |

We we had quite a few no shows today but you can't predict what the critters are going to but nice place to hang with the kids with a sack lunch....I can see in the near future this can really get big with all the land that's not being used ( yet )

By Dorathy P |

This little zoo is definitely worth a visit. The animals and grounds are all obviously well kept. It is so wonderful to take a leisurely stroll through this zoo weather you are with your family, as a couple or even just by yourself to get away from it all, without leaving Billings. The we saw almost every animal out and being active.

By Tobias M |

If I had to describe this zoo in one word, it would be spacious. Some other zoos I've been to seem to cramp everything together for an experience that comes off as rushed. At zoomontana, I felt I could take my time, admire the landscaping and scenery, and get a sense of the wilderness. I could also describe the enclosures as spacious, giving lots of room for the animals to relax or play. The tigers were asleep but I take that as a good sign with zoos as I would imagine if they were stressed they would be pacing or or be on edge. The bears were incredibly playful and they seemed to love their pool. I could tell the children at the zoo loved the playground and there were plenty of benches for parents to sit down and relax. The wolverines exhibit was blocked off which was fine by me but I would have appreciated if there was a note or someone there who could explain why. That was really the only thing that bothered me. I knew this was a small zoo going in and it exceeded my expectations. Overall, the Billings zoo was a great experience and I hope I can visit again. (Side note) When the bears were playing with the fire hoses I thought of Smokey the bear.

By Twyla K |

My daughter and myself took a family with two young children, 3 and 1, and a mother with multiple disabilities. The reason for our visit was for the family to spend their 3 year olds first trick or treating experience during the day so the mother could see her son trick or treat. The mother is legally blind. The zoo was very accommodating. They let me reserve a wheelchair. When I arrived I was able to pull up to the front, my daughter got the wheelchair and unload everyone with ease. The zoo was very handicapped accessible and the entire family was able to spend every minute together. The wheelchair was also able to go anywhere. The trick or treating was great and fun. The gift shop was accessible also. We had a great time! I'd like to personally thank two of the staff: Amanda Minchew and Vanessa. They were polite and very accommodating! Without them, this would have not went as smoothly. I recommend Boo at the Zoo to anyone; as well as, this zoo for people with disabilities because of the accessibility.

By JoonB |

I have always enjoyed visiting the Zoo to watch the animals (Tigers, Grizzlies, Red Pandas, Talkin, wolves, wolverines and so much more). Recently our family has embraced the entire ZooMontana experience by enjoying the trails, sensory gardens, events in the new pavilion, homestead barn, etc. A wonderful way to spend the entire day!

By John S |

Nothing special about the zoo but as with all zoo's it is nice to see the animals. Bengal tigers were really nice to look at.
Road in and parking lot need so much needed repairs.

By Molly J |

We have a family pass and my girls love to go check out the animals. It is just down from our house so if we dont check out the whole zoo we love to stop in and just play at the playground.

By Debra H |

This zoo is growing. I was there a couple years ago with my granddaughter and new owners had just taken over. They have improved many of the exhibits and are making new ones,. I am looking forward to visiting it again in the future. I was especially impressed with the tigers. There are 2 of them and they seem to be young and active.

By ChrisCgeo |

This is an excellent zoo. It's got a great layout. It's got great, well maintained exhibits. It is a small zoo and that's what I love. I've been to large zoos and they are overcrowded and stressful. This zoo is small, cozy and very personal. You feel at home here. It has beautiful grounds. There are 2 excellent playgrounds for children. I recommend coming when it is cool outside to increase your chances of seeing animals.

By Elaine S |

My husband and I have a annual membership which tells right there that Zoo Montana is a worthwhile experience. We go just to walk the paved trails the zoo and stop to see what the animals are doing that day. The zoo is set up for the animals to live in an environment as close to the natural habitat as possible. They are not caged except for fences that are there for your safety. The grizzly bears and the tigers are always my favorite. But there are wolves, otters, beavers, and other animals. This is a small zoo but well planned and well worth your time when visiting Billings. Don't forget to go inside the entrance building. There are many more animals there.

By Compass656212 |

Billings clinic had an employee appreciation day at the zoo, it was filled with great people, but, Yellowstone Kelly did the catering. Worst bbq I ever had! But the zoo didn't have many animals. So sad.

By Laura Grace |

It's not boring There is a lot to see. The bears were funny, the various animals were a joy to see. the sensory garden is amazing! WE relaly enjoyed our visit to Zoo Montana

By Jolene N |

The zoo is excellent It was really great to take my family somewhere different and affordable. It was only 4 minutes away from the hotel we were staying at perfect for a close by activity. I would recommend any families to definatly visit this zoo its perfect for all ages and the animals were great fun to watch. Really enjoyed walking through the zoo with all the fall colors starting.

By Athena M |

Very close to the motel we were staying in. We only paid about 20 dollars for a family of five. Loved that most the animals were rescued what a neat thing for billings Montana. We also loved that little strollers were provided, as we have a 4, 2, and one year old. The Bears were super cute. Loved seeing the bald eagles too! The Tigers were also awesome to watch. We will be back!!

By nswanson |

A small but impressive zoo that has something for everyone. Tigers, bears, children's section, educational areas, beautifully landscaped, nice walking paths, great place for events, weddings.

By Sarah H |

I took my family here. It was a great way to spend the day. They really have done a nice job with it. The maps and signs are somewhat confusing but most zoos are. :)
the animals were great and the little gift shop is cute. great way to spend the afternoon.

By Hannah M |

The Zoo has made great strides in recent years to put Billings on the map and get taken seriously as a Zoo. Thanks to Jeff and the team, it's quickly become a great place again. Love taking the kids here and learn about a good selection of animals. Looking forward to more animals coming soon!

By Betty M |

A beautiful walk through. Grizzly Bears, Red Pandas, Peacocks and local type animals in their natural habitat. Mostly Montana animals but beautiful setting and a wonderful place for small children and family picnics.

By Vinnie |

While in Billings on vacation we decided to check out the Zoo. Upon arriving, it almost seems like they were only 1/2 open. There was no ticket booth open, just a sign that asked you walk into their gift shop around the corner & pay for your admission. Once inside & paid up, I had to ask for a receipt O.o No stamp on the hand, etc.
I'm positive we saw many people just coming in without paying. Major flaw in their system... many exhibits were under construction & quite a few of the exhibits didn't have said animal viewable. The layout of the zoo is quite large. Lots of walking... I suggest asking for a cart for older folks if they plan on walking the whole zoo. Highlight was their pair of Siberian Tigers. No giraffes, penguins, Zebras, monkeys, etc... The overlook into the bear exhibit had glass that was so dirty you could barely see though it.. While we weren't mad about anything, I don't think I would recommend someone make a special trip there.

We have always loved the Montana Zoo! Recently got to attend a birthday party for my niece. They have a separate birthday building with a play area and the cost was reasonable and allowed entrance to the zoo all day. The kids LOVED the time we spent there. We got a special presentation in the barn with the big draft horses and bunnies. Such a great time. The staff is great and we love the new exhibits coming up!

By CKylerWest |

This is a great place for birthday parties. We had roughly 10 six-year Olds and they had a blast. The party was in one of the pavilions by the play ground and we had the kiddos go on a safari adventure. When they were done with that, a staff member brought out an armadillo for the kids to see and touch. It was a great experience and we will be back!

By dottie704 |

The zoo is wonderful. great natural enclosures with a fantastic play area for the kids. We went for the Easter Egg Hunt. I think that they were surprised by the number of kids that showed up. the little kids egg hunt should have been on the large open lawn. Not all of the young children got eggs. They set a limit for the older kids, and that seemed to work out well. It really wasn't that big of a problem... my children know the real reason we celebrate Easter, and it doesn't include plastic eggs filled with candy. We love the zoo itself, and were thankful for a fun activity to do as a family.

By Flowers713 |

Love the zoo just fun walking visiting the animals beautiful trees all around. Never seen a wolves that close and was howling it was just amazing usually I see it in the movies or on the tv. Just beatiful to see. Enjoyable place to visit.

By Kellie G |

This was very well attended! The lines were very long and slow moving. If this is going to be an annual event, there needs to be more princess' stationed throughout the zoo. The kids had lots of fun!

By Jim C |

Went to the zoo yesterday and had a good time. Our zoo is not large but there are things for the whole family to do. The grounds are well kept and we do have some of the favorites like the tigers, red pandas, otters and bears. So bring the kids and have a slow but fun day.

ZooMontana is not only a good zoo, it is a really swell place to be! The paths thru the trees between the exhibits, the farm area with petting and feeding animals, several picnic tables and benches, the gardens, oh, yeah, and the zoo animals. Grizzly bears, tigers, wolves and many more. Plus, they have lots of special activities at the zoo - concerts, weddings and even highland games. A great addition to Billings and to Montana.

This is one of those places you have to place in perspective. It is, according to their literature, the only zoo/botanical garden in Montana. Therefor it's the best by default. We get spoiled by bigger zoos with more animals in other parts of the country. For myself, the small size and rolling landscape were a blessing to my sore foot, bad knee, and aching back (Long vacation). We were able to take our time and yet see the entire zoo in a short time; even spending some time with the botanical exhibits. My favorite exhibit was the mink, which we watched being fed and trained by a staff member who clearly loved what she did, and liked telling people about it.
Everyone was friendly and pleasant, and the admission is certainly one of the least expensive zoos I've been to. The grounds were clean and well cared for.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stroll through this small zoo. The gardens were lovely and the atmosphere throughout was peaceful. The animals were mostly out and about..the tigers were having a playful tussle and the grizzly was batting around his floatie in his pond. What I enjoyed the most, however, is the lack of pushiness and crowds that larger zoos are known for. I was actually able to take my time without being rushed along by throngs of people. The paths are mostly paved, but a sense of strolling through the woods was also preserved, rather than sterile concrete all around. Anyone who enjoys calm and peaceful environments will likely enjoy ZooMontana.

This zoo has come back so strongly from where it was just a few years ago. From what I remember, they were struggling with financing and losing animals and just an overall rough situation. Since then, they've completely revamped the zoo. Incredibly beautiful gardens, new and improved enclosures, friendly and helpful staff, overall a great experience. Jeff has done an amazing job at the zoo along with his staff. They genuinely care about community and show that off well by hosting events in their new pavilion, talking on the radio and TV, and just being very active in the community. Billings thanks you!

This 11 acre zoo is open daily from 10 AM to 4 PM. Adult admission is $6. It has some animals outdoors, two of each eagles, bears, tigers, red pandas, wolverines. Also a beaver, lynx and wolf. There some indoor exhibits with birds, snakes, etc. Not a wide variety of animals, but interesting. There is also a beautiful savory garden. One problem, there are limited restrooms and one porta potty. When there are school groups, the limited facilities are a problem. Not a top level zoo, but a nice place to walk around for one or two hours.

By Gary E |

The zoo is small and very good for young children and their parents. The animals were there but not visible at all times. Some animals could never be scene and the distance between some animals was a long walk. Not too well organized.

By Bob K |

This small but very good zoo was amazing everyone enjoyed them selves and the animals are very active in their habitats

By Ada G |

This is a very family-friendly zoo. We decided to get the yearly pass and it paid for itself in less than 4 visits. Have an hour? Great place to take a walk. Have an afternoon? A great chance to really study a particular animal. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and obviously care for the animals.

By Destiny Coster |

We had so much fun! Staff was friendly and inviting. They all knew what they were talking about when we asked questions. We will definitely be back! :)

By Tiffany R |

I was happy to hear that there is a zoo here in Billings. Its definitely a smaller zoo then the ones im used to. A little disappointing that there wasn't much. Only took an hour to mosey along and see all there was to see. Definitely could use some better signs and more attractions or activities. The hours aren't great either. On a Sunday it closed at 2pm.

By MarCot1980 |

This is a great little Zoo for such a small town! However, prepare to walk a lot of you want to see everything. Gorgeous in the summer. Even open on the winter!

By Kristy S |

I read the information expecting a huge zoo with several different species and animals. They're is only 11 types of animals and maybe 15 in the education center. I had a good time, but it was not what I expected.

By Tanya M |

The entry fee is very reasonable, we paid $39 for 3 adults, 2 kids and a baby who was free. The animals seem to be well taken care of as well as the zoo itself.

By Amy D |

Zoo Montana is a great little zoo. Not a ton of animals but the grounds are kept up nicely and all of the animals have plenty of room. The prices to get in are reasonable and souvenirs were not overly expensive. It was a fun afternoon for the family.

By MTMamacita |

I went here with my two daughters, ages 9 and 7. We were excited to see the red pandas! They are so cute!! The paths to follow are so nice. The gift shop also has animals and critters in it. There is also an awesome playground area that both my kids loved. We plan on going again this summer.

By traveler4fun2015 |

The animal habitats were nicely done. We especially liked the lynx who thought we were very interesting so we got a good look. Same thing with the Siberian tigers!

We went late in the day and most of the animals were slowing down --- the Red Pandas were snoozing. The Big horned sheep and grizzlies were waiting to get back into their inner enclosures and all the others were rather sleepy. The otters are of course cute. And it was nice to see the beaver.

I'd recommend going earlier - maybe mid day so the animals would be more active.

All in all, a nicely done small zoo.

By Mike C |

Doesn't really compare to zoos in the big city. But if you have a few hours to kill and a kid to entertain definitely worth the admission.

By gman29mt |

clean, well attended animals in a unique setting of natural habitat for a good variety of animals from africa, india, asia,,and north america, which include monkeys, tigers, lions, snakes, wolves, bears, otters, large birds, eagles, giant millipedes, bighorn sheep, lynx, tarantula spiders , owles, aracaris, and to top it off a lot of great restaurants, and motels all within one mile of the zoo., and close to I-90 ramps.

By Kasey C |

A smaller zoo but worth the stop. Reasonably priced. Allows a good view of wolves and bears as well as other native animals. I like that the animals come to the zoo because they can't fend for themselves in the wild, rather than being bred in captivity specifically for the purpose of being viewed at a zoo.

By abbyleigh85 |

We were in town for some shopping and a trip to the zoo was a nice little break, especially for my 5 year old! It was small enough that it didn't take up our entire day. I believe we were there 1 1/2-2 hours, which included time at the playground. It felt more like an animal sanctuary than a zoo, which I liked. It cost a little more than I expected (I think they need to update their price list online), but still more reasonable than most attractions around the country. The beaver was by far the most entertaining and fun to watch! He fetched a bowl from the bottom of his little pond and we watched as he got out of the water to go bite off a small branch and carry it back into the water to nibble on leaves.

By Amy S |

Nice, small zoo to visit in Billings. They fed the animals while we were there so the people could see them come out of their caves. There was a cool park that the kids could play at. Inexpensive to get in and easily accessible. Had a petting section for some animals and could feed the guests and ducks.

By Lynne C |

4 teens, 3 adults & one baby

Liked the animals on a hot morning ... Great park-Ike setting ... Flowers & waterfall garden area ... Very picturesque!

By Sharon A |

This local zoo could have 12 animals, BUT a couple were missing! More of a park, than zoo. Good for little ones, or a casual stroll.

By Ronnie K |

The family and I LOVE all things zoo, so this could be a biased review. The poor reviews on here definitely do not give Zoo Montana a fair shake though. The exhibits allowed for very close observation of grizzlies, wolves, tigers. There was a Sichuan Takin (I know, we didn't know what that was either) which we had never seen at any other zoo we've been to. A lot of the animals weren't out due to the fact that there was still snow everywhere when we visited and the zoo was undergoing some construction (what better time than winter time?). These are things that happen at all zoos, and I feel like construction is always a good sign at a zoo. Zoo Montana is a smaller zoo, but we loved it and plan to go back during warmer weather. Also, there is a pre-school there! How cool would that be??

By SueKentucky |

I visited this zoo while in Montana. I really enjoyed the zoo. I went by myself this day and really enjoyed the gardens! Pretty zoo geared toward people of all ages(especially little ones! Glad I went. Was very relaxing! Thumbs up Zoo Montana!

By Mrs_Phil2000 |

Took my nephew to ZooMontana and we both were a little disappointed. I guess I was expecting a little more. It appeared the animal were cared for there just weren't that many. The zoo is tiny and outside the animals areas the grounds needed a little attention, most of the areas between animals were overgrown and needed trimming.

This is good for very small children as it is not large and little children don't care about the gardens.

By trucktripper7 |

The zoo is a great family activity. The scenery is great and the animals are fun to watch. The grizzly bears are our favorite to watch.

By Krista D |

We visited this zoo with 2 kids, 9 and 8 years old and they both had a great time exploring the path ways and seeing the animals. We really enjoyed the animal habitats and hearing from the zoo interpreters. Thanks for a great visit!
Only suggestion would to have some sort of snack or food other than the sno-cone offer, only so we could stay longer! :)

By Loookingforfun |

The billings Zoo is a pleasant walk for family's, or just to get some exercise and see some of the wonders of nature around you. I always feel more relaxed after a stroll thru the zoo grounds. A note to parents please tell your kids to not howl at the wolfs, or growl at the tigers or other animals. The other patrons and the animals to not enjoy it one bit.

By Charlene D |

As far as Zoos go, this was pretty sad. The only animal we really saw was a bear and I felt really bad for him, he just kept pacing back and forth in front of the fence. My Grand daughters enjoyed running back and forth with him, they thought it was a game. The kids however thought the playground was great. We spent most of our time there. There is no food to purchase so if you want to eat you should bring a picnic lunch with you. We went in Oct., maybe they have more animals in the summer. I don't know because most of the viewing areas were empty. If that's the case they should charge a lower price in the fall.

By Richard S |

If you are looking for a big zoo with lots of animals don't go. That said, if you enjoy a walk through a fairly natural area and the opportunity to see some animals in a close to natural habitat this is the place for you. A great place to spend a slow paced afternoon walk in the woods and see some wildlife.

By Cynthia D |

I'm quite sad to see other reviews of this zoo as negative. I think this is a wonderful little gem we have here in Montana. I have been to many other big-city zoo's and this is our favorite. It is reliable, and you can tell the animals are well-taken care of. I appreciate the time the owners put into this amazing little place. We typically go in the fall/spring, but I'm sure in the summer it's just as exciting, if not more exciting. My daughter loves coming here, and it's just enough to not overwhelm anyone. I love this place!

By NerissaRissRissy |

The first thing that came to mind when we walked through the gate was that it looks like the zoo from the movie "We Bought a Zoo". My kids adore this place! We used to own a farm in West Virginia before we moved to Montana. We raised Nigerian dwarf goats, some days when we are missing our old home we come to the zoo just to hang out in the barn and feed the goats. Other days we pop in for the whole adventure. Princess day was a recent favorite event. Our youngest daughter was elated to see all of her favorite princesses at the zoo! Zoo Montana is one of the things that has made our family fall in love with Billings! Thank you for the beautiful memories!

By Alan C |

The zoo is very well laid out to visit all the exhibits. We loved the natural environments that the zoo provided for the species that were kept there. Multiple viewing platforms made it easier to get a good look at the animals no matter where they were in their large habitats. The staff were very friendly and eager to share their knowledge. We were four adults and enjoyed a relaxing and enjoyable day at the zoo.

By amamuhiore |

There are only a handful of animals, but we love the ambience and the walking paths. Go see the exotics, then feed the chickens and goats. This place keeps getting better!

By Meredyth J |

My family and I love going to the zoo. It is small enough to get through in an hour, but my daughter loves to see the tigers and river otters. They always have fun events going on.

By Jessie P |

It actually was a fairly warm day, which was nice but unexpected. Most of the animals were out. Unfortunately, the grizzly bears were not. Their home was being worked on. The rest of the animals were awesome. Tigers, wolves, red pandas, etc. They even have chickens and horses and rabbits for you country folk. The staff were very friendly. Great experience!

By commissarygary |

It was not exactly the best time of year to see a zoo as the bears were hybernating and trees had lost their folage but it was still fun for our grandkids that had never been to a zoo before. It must be a beautiful park in the summer.

By Rachelle P |

My husband and I got married at ZooMontana on a beautiful June afternoon this year. I love ZooMontana, the Sensory Garden is just beautiful in the spring and summer. I have an 8 year old daughter who loves the animals. It's fun for a picnic as well!

By Jose J |

The zoo is not well maintain i feel awful for the animals let alone the people that visit there. There are weeds everywhere never mowed where the animals live the water is filthy . The zoo has allot of possibilities but no one seems to care. I've visited it 3 times and still nothing has change. If its revenue they could charge a 2 dollars charge for parking thus updating the facility. For Montana its the best they can do. By maintaining the facility you would be providing jobs and a place where you can take your family and enjoy.

By Bev H |

Recently had out of state company with youngsters who really had a great time seeing the animals. Most of them were viable and fun to watch

By Frederick S |

Me and my two boys spent a couple hours there just recently. It was what I expected for a small zoo, and was clean and appear well-kept. Pricing was inline with the experience, we'd go back!

By tina a |

If you are from CA or Canada or any place else with a zoo, skip this one. If you are small-town, it's worth a stop. Not much other than deer, elk, antelope, and wolves. Most of which we can see in our front yard.

By Tacoboy4000 |

It had been a couple years since I had been to the zoo and decided to take the kiddos for a couple hours. They have been making steady improvements in the last couple of years. The new director has definitely breathed new life into the zoo and the improvements are coming as money allows. This is a really nice place to spend a couple hours especially if you have some kiddos to take along with you. (Borrow some if you need to. The childlike wonder of seeing a tiger as big as they are is worth the price of a ticket by itself.) They have a few new animals that are fun to see and are continuing to work on upgrades and bringing it back to life. Fun place to bring a picnic too!

By Erin H |

Went here as an add-on to the family trip. I wasn't sure what to expect (having only been to two zoos in my life and both of them being a fairly large size - Edmonton and Calgary). It was smaller than I thought it'd be but it was still a nice feature to Billings. It was a very hot day so some of the animals were staying in the shade and out of sight but we still managed to catch a glimpse of most of them. Had a nice walk as the zoo is very well kept and beautiful for the most part. The staff was friendly and the entry cost was very good. It was a nice addition to the trip.

By S6128ZQjulies |

I take students to this zoo every year. Last year we went early in the day and saw every animal active and walking about. The wolves were howling, the grizzly bears were playing. We saw red pandas, tiger, mountain sheep, an armadillo and the peacock was showing off his feathers for us. There were baby animals all around. EXCELLENT place to visit. Go early in the day!

By Mariah L |

I have grown up in Billings and our zoo is a must see! They have been making lots of improvements over the years and are adding lots of exhibits! The animals are in large attractive enclosures, and the staff is amazing at interacting with zoo guests! :) They are constantly making improvements and adding new exhibits, definitely go check the zoo. They even let you bring picnic baskets in, this helps make the zoo all the more family oriented and affordable! :)

By Anne C |

I had not been to ZooMontana for at least a year, and my visit today reminded of what a gem our zoo is. This is not a big city zoo, but if you want to see northern hemisphere animals and go for a very pleasant walk including beautiful gardens, great play areas for the kids, and lovely natural habitat, ZooMontana is worth a visit.

By Lovenotcamping22 |

Zoos are not my favorite places. I have a hard time seeing animals in captivity. BUT, the animals at this facility were not taken from the wild. They were all from other zoos, or unable to survive on their own in the wild due to injury or other factors. The director has great energy and motivation to make ZooMT a model of conservation and education. The exhibits are large and only contain animals that are comfortable in the central MT climate. No rhinos or flamingos here, and for this I am grateful.
The animals are healthy and well-cared for. I admire the staff for their hard work and obvious concern for the animals' mental as well as physical well-being. This is a wonderful destination for a family, school groups, or anyone interested in learning about animals with whom we share the 45th parallel.

By Kristin S |

You will enjoy this zoo if you don't try to compare it to big city zoos. There are a good number of animals to see and it is laid out nicely. In addition to the animal exhibits there is a fun animal themed playground for kids and a garden with a peaceful seating area. It is clear that they are adding new exhibits. The price was fair and it was quick and easy to rent a wheelchair for our family member who had just broken his ankle the day before. If you are visiting Billings allow a half day visit.

By Sarah B |

Was a nice break for us when we took the grand kids. Not real big but it was nice going there for the kids to work off a little energy and where there was enough to keep them busy

By RachelSpahr |

My husband and I were in Billings for the weekend celebrating our 10th anniversary. We decided to visit the zoo. This was our first trip here and unfortunately we really weren't impressed. I understand Billings isn't a huge city, but I feel like their zoo could be improved upon. There were parts that seemed to be under construction and it was unsightly. In between the trees, they still had Christmas decor visible and we visited in April. The landscape wasn't visually pleasing at all. The layout, even with the map was confusing and there weren't many exhibits. Leaving the zoo, I felt let down. Before we arrived, we had talked about bringing our kids the next time we were in town. We're stationed in Great Falls and occasionally come into Billings to spend a weekend. Unfortunately we won't be coming back to the zoo.

By Brian W |

I've been to a few larger Zoos at larger cities, however I am very impressed with ZooMontana. The Zoo grounds are very well laid out and easy to navigate between. The exhibits are done correctly, usually with two or three animals in large natural areas to make THEM feel quite comfortable. I do think the reptiles and smaller birds would appreciate slightly larger and more natural enclosures however. The whole layout of the Zoo also puts the visiting humans very much at ease. I saw none of the grimy and smelly exhibits, or safety hazards that are normally found in larger Zoos. This is an absolute must see for animal and nature lovers of all ages.

By ronmL7713GJ |

My wife and I go to the Zoo about 4 times a year. I'm amazed at how well kept it is and the cleanliness of the grounds. It is very pretty and has a lot of animals that we enjoy taking our time to watch and photograph. The only reason I didn't give it a five is that we need more rare animals.

By Dana M |

I was expecting a fabulous zoo fro Billings because of the big population but this was really just an ok pace to visit if theres nothing else to do !!!

By Anita P |

This is absolutely the best in Billings. My husband and I have gone back three times and enjoyed each one. The animals are well taken care o and enjoy the public.

By westmom2015 |

My family thoroughly enjoyed our morning at ZooMontana. It is very clean, well set up with walking trails, garden sitting areas and several animal exhibits. W loved the gardens and the children's play areas.

By Dream717857 |

Our 1 1/2 year old son enjoyed feeding the goats and looking at the other animals but it was very sad. The quality in which these animals live was very upsetting. Their enclosures were taken over by weeds and brush. Other enclosures, that I'm assuming used to have animals in them, were completely over grown. You couldn't see in most of them. There was garbage everywhere in the zoo as well. It looked like basic up keep is never done.

By Kimberly S |

Know it's not a big zoo but for Billings MT it's nice, it's so beautiful there, nice calm and peaceful, it's like a nature walk and a animal sanctuary all in one. Seems like a lot of maintenance and construction though maybe their adding on I hope so and a lot of the animals get up close which is nice. Never see the red panda when I go there or I barely see it I think it sleeps a lot, been there twice always enjoyable if anything it's relaxing.

By Alice D |

The zoo was fun and quiet. It was close to our hotel (the Big Horn Resort) and very affordable. The zoo had red pandas which we do not have at the Phoenix Zoo.

By Sara Delite |

Very fun beautiful zoo. I thought the grounds was incredible with all the flowers and other thing they had everywhere. The tigers were very active and playful with us which was a bonus. Lost of different things to do within the zoo. I'd tell anyone to go here.

By Wulfhere |

Zoo Montana is a nice little zoo on the west end of Billings, right off I-90. It focuses on the animals of the American West, so you'll find grizzly bears, bald eagles, otters and wolves. You can also get nose-to-nose with a couple of Siberian tigers and some red pandas. The zoo is small, so don't expect the San Diego Zoo, and it could use some help with infrastructure...some of the trails and ponds are badly in need of repair, but it's a great place to take the kids. The Zoo Director is passionate about his job and it shows in the beautiful landscaping and the friendly staff.

By jmel2n |

The facility is clean and easy to get around and view the animals. The animals are well kept and easy to view. There are inside and outside viewing areas with adequate facilities to handle handicapped as well. Staff are knowledgable and easy to approach. I would recommend the zoo visit for all ages.

By doulas4you |

Unfortunately this zoo doesn't have much for animals. Some times there are even less since some are away... It does have a nice play park and walking trails :( The peacocks are cool though :)

By Susan W |

Zoo Montana has a variety of great animals as well as gorgeous grounds. Entry fee is reasonable and there's almost always some kind of event going on there - for example, a renaissance festival & the Highland games. A good place to see bald eagles and red pandas. They have a lynx named Fierca who is an animal ambassador; she even appeared in the opera a couple of years ago! Director Jeff Ewelt is an empassioned wildlife lover and his staff are friendly and helpful. They even have a playground for the littles to expend some energy. A great place for a day trip!

By Sue P |

Was there on a really nice day, the weather was good. Nice place to take kids to run and have fun. Good selection of animals for the size of the zoo. Glad to see that Billings has a zoo.

By Gregor P |

I had to be in Billings and I had time on My hands. I met with My Sister and we ventured out about town. Found the Zoo and had to take a peak. Hours are odd and short so plan or call ahead. All the animals looked well taken care of and better compared to some I have been to. Staff all friendly and personable. Side not NO FIREARMS!!

By Jennifer S |

Very nicely maintained zoo. It wasn't huge but with small children it was just the right size for us. They were able to walk the whole time and we saw everything. However the trails were largely paved so we would have had no problem with the side by side stroller, should we have wanted to use it. My 10 year old loved seeing reptiles he hasn't seen at our home zoo, and my 2 year old nephews loved the farm area, the red panda's, Tigers, and bears. They have a great playground area with separate age appropriate structures. No great place to get food as far as we saw, but there were water and soda machines scattered thru park. Zoo employees and volunteers were very friendly and knowledgeable. Will definitely return!!! Don't miss the animals inside the main building at the entrance, it looks like the gift shop but has an exhibit and bathrooms inside.

By Ashlei C |

We enjoyed our trip to the zoo it was a very nice and well kept zoo! I advise you to bring bug spray if you don't want eaten alive by the mosquito's!

By puglab |

This is a small zoo with a nice, pleasant sensory garden with pretty flowers. It would be nicer if they had someone around welcoming visitors and telling them about the animals and pointing out facts. We didn't see the red panda so it would have been nice for someone to point that out. Gift shop was small and I would have liked to see a few more things with Montana animals like the grey wolf, Linx and big horn sheep to truly embrace the Montana part. There were a lot of bugs biting near the Tigers and red panda. I would have enjoyed more if we had some bug spray. Kids enjoyed for 2 hours. I've been to more exciting zoos but it was OK. The big horn sheep was a nice well-planned exhibit.

By Libradisney |

This is a very nice small zoo to visit. We went during the middle of the day so most of the animals were sleeping. However, the beaver did come up to see us close up! Go either early or late in the day.

By 4mary13 |

This is a small zoo that has been upgraded considerably in the last half decade, largely due to a terrific zoo Director. The zoo is a meandering walk through the woods, over a creek and bridges, with a couple of path options. It features an outdoor stage, covered events area, playground, and numerous special events. Yesr-round passes are available and a very good deal. It has a reflection garden and is a great place to read a book or eat your lunch.

By Dana M |

I really enjoyed our IAATE field trip to ZooMontana. You guys are doing a really great job! I loved watching the bears on their first day out :-) So glad to see you have room to expand. Keep up the good work!

By Jan W |

We went as a family with children, and the Zoo is laid out well, nice trails, nice signs, nice exhibits, it is just small. We loved the domestic animals- horses, goats, chickens.

By Tracy M |

I took my 2 year granddaughter and we spent the afternoon at ZooMontana. It was very enjoyable. The bears were playing the pool. The tigers were wrestling with each other. There is quite a bit of shade which was especially nice on a hot afternoon in July. Value is good for the price of admission. It is growing and expanding slowing...but very nice for its size.

By FlorencefromMilan |

Zoo MT has come a long way thanks to Jeff Ewelt. It is totally worth the trip and the kids can happily spend most of the day there. Their animal experiences are growing and there are so many things to do and see.

My 4 kids and Grandmother and I enjoyed the zoo. The animals out and about. If your not much in for the animals the grounds are a beautiful walk.

By jamess024 |

Loved the Red Panda's and the wolves. We visited at the time after they had just fed the animals and the animals were all sleeping and not out roaming around. It was hard to see many of the animals. It is a great zoo for the city it is in. Definitely a great place to take the kids and go see.

By Sarah M |

This is a small zoo but it is very we!l done. We saw many animals up close, including a wolf and two grizzly bears and some peacocks.

By lovescritters |

Liked that the animals were not caged , more of a natural habitat.
Also many fun venues throughout the year .

By MT_Lday |

Great zoo for Montana! Jeff has done a wonderful job getting fun new animals and a clean nice place to take the family.

By DavidB371 |

This is a tiny zoo by most measures. The park's web site lists some forty resident animals; on the day we visited, we saw perhaps a dozen or so (counting ducks , peacocks, goats, horses). No lynx, no beavers, no red panda, no wolverine, no opossum, etc. The petting zoo was nice and there's a large picnic area. No on-site food, however. And the gift shop had a meager selection of merchandise. This might be a good stop for small children but it has little to offer for travelers who have visited more substantial zoos.

By Shelliattheboot |

I love Billings' zoo. It is a pleasure to explore the family-friendly grounds and watch the animals antics. I especially enjoy the two bears; Ozzy and Bruno. While I was at the zoo they were doing a special demonstration where they set up campsites; one sloppy and unsafe and the other set up "bear safe" with food contained in bearproof containers. It was fascinating to watch how quickly those bears tore up the sloppy "campsite". It was a real eye opener and living in Montana a good lesson for all of us who share our remote areas with these amazing creatures. Well done ZooMontana!

By AllisD79 |

Beautiful landscaping, flowers and nice walkway to view the animals. Animals were well cared for - a very nice place to spend the day!

By gwillhardt |

This zoo is quite small, which is understandable being in a small city. The wolves were cool, they were howling while we were there. I only gave it 4 "stars" because some of the exhibits were closed and the animals stored for winter. Granted yes it was early spring but they didn't have an indoor viewing area. I assume this is because its a small facility but would be nice for them to do. Fun experience and a good way to kill a little time but don't plan on spending the whole day here.

By ppkg |

We were not sure the zoo was going to be a good use of our one day in Billings, but we found it to be an unexpected pleasure and interesting adventure. The two grizzlies were the highlight as we had never seen them up close. They were inches away through the glass. Wow. Also the sensory garden was excellent. Well worth the stop.
