Sadly it is suffering a downturn with many closed attractions. Has some lovely gardens and landscapes but a lot of missing animals and closed restrooms

We enjoyed ourselves. One of the people in our party was looking for an electric vehicle wheelchair or scooter. You have to rent these in advance they were all out by the time we arrived. You can take a tour for $90 each. That was also not available
We ended up walking past the Tigers who were active and very healthy looking; the Gibbons who seemed to be showing off. On the cuff we boarded a tram for seven dollars each, we saw elephants, rhinoceros and many other animals, more than we expected to see. Then we took a little “airboat” ride for five dollars each and saw alligators and bears. I feel like for $12 we got to see nearly every animal in the zoo with very limited walking. All in about two hours. If you have small children they have bikes that you can pedal them around in that look like fun.

I love this zoo but it's huge. I recommend renting one of the safari cycles, especially if you have children, or the thought of walking for hours on end makes you cringe. We purchased monorail passes which I regret, still.
The monorail gives you a great view of the park but there's a little bit of a walk when you get off before you reach an exhibit. You walk all around the exhibit to check out the animals, then walk to the next monorail stop, and on and on it goes. It's exhausting!
The people who rented the safari cycles had big smiles on their faces!
I was so jealous.

It has been a very enjoyable day for me. It is a nice place for taking pictures and has a good atmosphere. I was amazed by the organization, hygiene and equipment to cool people in the heat. I think there can be no better place than this to spend a nice day with a family. Thank you to the Zoo team for everything.

The zoo is very large, many animals, all very well cared for. If you want to visit it taking the time to look at the animals and have lunch, it takes 6 hours. It is forbidden to bring food, which makes sense to protect animals; on site, if you like it, you can eat burgers, American pizzas or wraps. There's also ice.

We went with little kids who didn’t really care for animals but the atmosphere was so great that they had an absolute blast and we stayed for 3 hours without the kids getting bored which is impressive for our family haha

We went to the zoo with high expectations. I was disappointed by the filth in the animals' habitat, the otter swam in a minimal space full of plastic, soda cans, and even a plastic duck. Few employees controlling.
The best thing about the zoo is feeding the giraffes. They charge 5 and 12 Dollars per Lettuce, it is a nice experience. The rest boring. It was good to be able to rent a family bike cart to get around... otherwise it was very big and very hot.
The hippos in a minimal pool, barely entered. It would be good to think more about animals.

The zoo is huge and has several different animals. The tip is to rent a group bicycle right at the entrance. It has two bicycle sizes for 6 or 8. Solved the issue of massive displacement, it is only to take advantage.

The worst zoo I've ever visited, there are no animals in sight, what little there is in the zoo are hidden in the shade, in deplorable states, $27 per person plus $55 for the pedal kart. There are more stands to sell you something than animals in the park, the same for the staff who were unpleasant in general, there are more than the tenants. It became a zoo in Bizness, I had been there a few years ago and it was great. I could see the visitors’ mine which was sad to see no animals. A tip goes your way than to lose money.

We loved the zoo. So tropical. So beautiful. I would definitely rent the bicycle built for 4 because this zoo is hugeeee!

Lovely zoo. So many cool animals and the way the exhibits are created you feel like you could touch the animals! There with a lot of things to see and do. Wear sneakers and bring water bottles! It cost us $130 for a family of six.

We are a zoo family... and this zoo did NOT disappoint. The ticket upgrade so worth it! Feeding giraffes AMAZING experience. We were there on a Thursday, arriving right at 10:00am. Throughout the day it felt like the zoo was open just for us. Low numbers of visitors which allowed for us to have a laid back experience. My little ones loved the monorail and feeding the animals! The food at Oasis was delicious (I was surprised by the quality and quantity - zero disappointments). The zoo was very clean and staff was so informational and fun to chat with!

When we travel we always to to visit local zoos. Our zoo has a reciprocal agreement with them so our membership saved us 50% on admission.

Fantastic zoo! Huge area because the animals have so good space! It really warms a animal heart!
My girlfriend and I are both 20 years old and you have to be 21 to rent bicycles there! This is very unfortunate, because it would have been a perfect experience to cycle around the park, which many did! (Had given 4 1/2, if you could)
For $5 we could feed giraffes, wild fat experience!
Clear recommendation, and really much for the money.

TL;DR:
This place is massive, the enclosures are big and beautiful, the staff are friendly and well informed, and I had a fantastic time. This zoo has a lot to offer for adults or children and you could easily spend 2 days trying to fully experience it. I sadly only had one and still missed some stuff. I fully support what this zoo is doing and love the effort they put into guests having a fantastic experience.
Travel Tips:
• Don't go on a busy day or holiday. I went on an overcast day in the middle of the week and basically had the whole zoo to myself. Many animals were out because it was cooler and most people were away at work or school. I specifically went on a Thursday. It was magically having a place so big be so empty and personal. Even my animal experiences had just me in them.
• If you only have one day and you arrive right as they open, think about doing the rental safari cycles. They're basically bikes and really help you see everything without having to walk for long. The enclosures are big and distance between them can also add up to your walking time. They can fit multiple people in case you have a large party and children.
• Download the map app. It will help you navigate the zoo easier and behaves like Google maps. I didn't download it and got lost semi-frequently. Staff are pretty friendly and happy to help shuttle you somewhere if they have time or you're just that lost.
• Do at least one animal experience. Even if it's the cheapest one, it's nice to engage with the animals they have. They put in a lot of effort to make it fun for guests and comfortable for the animals.
• Wear clothes and bring items that keep you comfortable outside. It's the Florida heat and humidity we're talking about, so you will be hot and feel the sun or rain. Look at the weather beforehand and prepare accordingly. You can also bring your own water.
• The parking lot is huge, but I personally Ubered here since I'm not local. If you do stay late for the zoo's wild talks, the gate might be close and not allow Ubers in, thus making you walk a mile to get to them. Plan accordingly just in case you do ride shares.
Overall Zoo:
The zoo itself is beautiful. Everything is basically a loop and so you usually end up right back to the center or where you started. The place is lined with vibrant plants, cool enclosures, and lots of informational signage. They have water fountains and bottle refill stations everywhere and even a couple phone charging stations. One thing I wasn't expecting was water features for kids to play with, so bring a bathing suit for your kids if you want to let them play in the water for a bit. Food and drinks aren't far most of the time and same with restrooms. I didn't try any of the food other than the Dippin' Dots, but it all looked pretty good. The sidewalks are wide and nice, but might become slippery when wet. We experienced some slight rain and noticed the ground would be slippery in some parts. On less busy days, many booths will be closed, so food might be a greater distance away, but the water fountains will keep you hydrated. The zoo has a decent amount of shade, but near most of the enclosures there won't be. With how massive it is, expect to not see everything if you plan to walk it or have an animal experience. It's about 6 miles of walking. Oh, and the gift shop stays open 30 minutes after the zoo closes at 5pm, so you don't have to worry about scrambling to get souvenirs. It's sometimes hard to know what doors are unlocked since you can't see inside, but just keep trying if they they are all closed.
The Rhino Experience:
I had the absolute pleasure of being able to do the rhino experience by myself with just me and the tour guide/staff. Not only did I learn about cool facts of the animals on our way to the rhino enclosure, but I was also lucky enough to to interact with the rhino baby that was a part of a successful artificial insemination procedure! We got to feed, brush, pet, and wash the cute girl! It's all on the animal's own terms and they're fed plenty of treats during the process. They do mention that they can't guarantee that you get to do everything I did during the experience since it's on the animal's own terms, but it was very magical! Highly, highly recommend the rhino experience and the amazing tour guide and rhino handler that was there.
Wild Talks:
The zoo towards the end of the day will sometimes host a guest speaker talk where someone from nature or wildlife conservation will explain something unique that they are doing in their line of work. The talks do cater with food and have a decent amount of seating. We got to see the director of CLAWS Conservancy talk about how he was able to help the villages in a certain African country stop needless killing lions and protect their livestock. It was a very inspirational and informative. This one is tailored more for adults, but they might have kid versions too. It's fairly cheap and you don't have to go to the zoo to see the talk.

We had the best time at the zoo. We went during the week so some attractions were closed but overall had a great time. Best part was that we could rent a bike to travel around the zoo which was something fun for the kids to do without over heating by walking around.

I LOVED this zoo. I was a little unsure about visiting since in general I'm not a fan of zoos BUT this zoo is wonderful. If you are like me and unsure about going just go! You will not regret it. The spaces/exhibits are big and most of them are in the open air, you can tell the animals are well taken care of and they seem happy. The way the exhibits are built also allows you to view them better. I love that they have little spaces for viewing the animals which makes the experience more interactive. I adored the feeding experiences, they are short but awesome. All the staff was SO friendly. I went during the week and had no issues with overcrowding or people disrespecting COVID safety guidelines. The zoo is HUGE. I walked all of it but it was exhausting, and I would definitely recommend renting one of their bicycle style cars to make the experience easier.

This zoo is very nice. It is a great way to spend the day outdoors. You will do a lot of walking. I do recommend renting the bicycles. The bicycles are buggy type bikes and everyone can petals. I think they have 2 person and 4 person but I can't remember. Half way through my visit I saw where the bike rentals are picked up and wanted to inquire on renting one but they were sold out. It is pricey at $40 for 3 hours (if i recall correctly), but it seems like it would be worth it. I enjoyed feeding the camel.

From 1 to 10, 6
Rating is in comparison to Tampa's Bush Gardens.
Few animals.
However, fun to have a good time.
If you prefer, rent personal, double or family bicycles. There are also electric ones. They are different companies, so it is better to decide and hire in the Zoo, not on the WEB.
For older adults, walking the entire way can be very tiring.
Free and very large parking.

Me and my family went to Zoo Miami on Easter Sunday. It is a beautiful zoo and the animals have good welfare. I would definitely recommend.

I've been living in Miami for 16 years and this was my first time visiting the zoo. What an amazing experience! This has to be one of the greatest zoos in the world. Well kept, clean, and with lots of trees, so you can always find shade to protect yourself from the Florida sun. It is kid friendly and has several options for dining. It has these incredible bikes that you can rent to make easier your mobilization around the zoo because it is huge. I could only see a 1/3 of it in 3 hours. Animals live in excellent, well-kept habitats and with ample space to move around. The staff was really friendly, too. You have also several shops to purchase souvenirs at reasonable prices. I went with my wife and my 30 month old daughter and we had a blast. My little one still talks about it.

We spent 5 hours here and we did not even conquer half of it.
Parking is free.
Only downside is that "officially" there is no outside food allowed in.

Location is great. Well-careful and clean and respecting sanitary requirements (all closed activities must be with mandatory use of mask), in addition to stations with alcohol for cleaning. Some attractions are closed for renovation (rinoceros and water park), but everything else is open and great for visiting!!

Fabulous. You will need at least 3 hours and very comfortable shoes - it's huge ! A very well run, organised and designed zoo, the tunnel under the crocodile is FANTASTIC for pictures, and there's a bear hide where you can get so close to a bear you can see his eyelashes (and take great photos too). We had a pizza for lunch and it was very good indeed. It was pretty empty on a grey February day, which was good. More people turned up after lunch. The shop is good, the boat trip looked fun but the crocodiles weren't out when we visited so we didn't do it (£$5 each extra), the monorail also wasn't on, which looked like it might be incredible, actually. We took ubers from South Beach and back $50 each way, 40 minute drive. Well worth it !

What a zoo! This zoo is HUMONGOUS and has lots of great animals to see. Getting a bike taxi is highly recommended because if you walk it you won't be able to see as much. Some of the exhibits and attractions weren't running or didn't seem to be open (maybe they're waiting for summer?) but we were happy enough to ride our bikes around.
For what it's worth, it isn't really spelled out anywhere how many people can fit in one bike taxi. There's room for a child to sit in the middle between two adults (in addition to the front seats). This would have saved us some money had we known, as we rented two instead of one.
Get there early so you can park towards the front.

A beautiful, clean place where you can learn. The park is extensive, you have to wear comfortable clothes and be willing to walk, there are also other types of transportation such as tricycles or electric carts that can be rented.

Fun zoo with lots of nice exhibits. Be prepared to do a lot of walking. It is large. It was hot, but that is to be expected. They did have misters and some inside exhibits. We fed the giraffes, but a lot of the other experiences weren't available in the morning.

We had a great time at the zoo. The enclosures for the animals seem great and more natural than some I have been to. Noe real cage in sight. The zoo is huge and I advise planning what you want to see most as we did not have time to see the whole zoo. An opening time of 9 would help!
The highlight for me was the chance to feed a giraffe (my favourite animal) We also enjoyed seeing the Elephants, Tigers, Lions, snakes. The list goes on. I would thoroughly recommend a visit to Zoo Miami.

This is one of the greatest zoos! Everyone needs to check it out! You are missing out if you don’t go. I love how I learned so much while I was there and all of the animals were so active, happy, and playful! 🦁🐻🐸🙉🐨

A very nice experience, the staff helping in the giraffes very attentive and helpful. The tours quite long but each very nice space.

Well worth the time spent there .Very well laid out with plenty of room to walk. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Planning on going back many times

I've been to a lot of zoos around the country and the world but this one is really just a park that has a few animals in it. Most of the animals on exhibit were just one individual. A lot of walking, a lot of walking so it's probably for the best to rent a bicycle carriage which are really expensive. I'm a walker and I couldn't believe how much walking there was. Signs are hard to follow, a really weird design. I suggest you study the map and pick out your top interests and see them first. I spent the first half seeing a lot of reptiles and amphibians and my interests is big mammals and birds which I saw last and had to rush through before closing. If you walk and observe everything you will need 6 hours. Like I said it's really just a pretty park landscaped. The tiger didn't come out until closing time. The highlights were the entertainment by the tamandua, the two raccoons playing, the Florida Panther, the otter and the singing flamingoes. Where else are you gonna see a Florida Panther, The animals weren't afraid or shy of the people. Nice gift shop. Will see alligators. Not a lot of animals for a zoo. I mean poor as in less than average, not any other criticism. Unfortunately no aardvark.

My family and I love the zoo. It is always nice to take the kids there, plenty of animals, activities, and good food areas.

The Zoo Miami was an experience. First of all there’s Safari Cycles that you can rent. These are bike cars that will seat up to 4 people and you have peddle to make it move. My family decided not to do it because we felt we could see the park better walking. Well we are we’re able to see the park but didn’t see the whole thing due to how big it is. There’s a reason you can rent the cycle cars. We saw everything but the Australian section in 2 and half hours. I would also like to say that becides being the biggest zoo I have ever been too, this zoo had a lot of animals that you don’t normally see at other zoos. So if your interested In seeing a zoo that has something different than look no further. The zoo staff members are also really nice and helpful and will answer any question you have on animal and where to go. Over all I would say this is a great zoo for families as it as a lot of food options, transportation options it even has a mini train. The one thing I will say is the price is totally worth it. Even though its a lot I think it’s a bargain for what you see and I will be back again

Loved the parking. Restrooms were always busy and when one stall is closed, it makes it even worse. You can do the basic stuff at the zoo for the admission but everything else costs. Not a fan of the safari cycles. Maybe because people are not smart, and constantly ran into me or over me. And no, not because I was in the immediate way. Loved that we could exit out to eat lunch and re-enter it after we were done.

Bring your sunscreen and your walking shoes, this zoo requires lots of walking. I also recommend swimsuits for the little ones. There are a couple nice splash pad areas great for a quick cool off. The exhibits are beautiful and there’s plenty of shade and benches to sit and enjoy them.

This zoo is MASSIVE and has a LOT of walking. Make sure you have comfortable shoes and if you are someone who has mobility issues I would suggest renting a scooter or a pedal bike. Yes there are costs but we were there for 6 hours and STILL didn't see the whole zoo. If you do rent a pedal bike or scooter make sure to go to the left after entering the zoo or you will miss it. Also, they do have feedings you can do but you must go online 24 hours advanced notice to sign up.

The zoo was awesome. Most of the animals were out and doing things. We rented the pedal cart. It was easier than walking around the whole zoo, but it was expensive. Fun time.

The best day trip! So much fun, the zoo is beautifully maintained and the staff are attentive.
The animals looked happy and active.
We hired a pedal cart to get us around and it was so a real laugh and we got to see a lot of the park at ease.

We were surprised by the variety of animals, we saw animals we have never seen before like the hienas, Komodo dragon, different kind of rhinos and others. All the animals looked well kept.
My little one really loved the water parks so I recommend to bring bathing suit and flip flops for the little ones. It is very hot but while walking there’s a lot of shade.

We love visiting zoos and have been to many zoos across the United States. This was probably the largest zoo we have ever been to in terms of distances walked.
Because it is such a large zoo, many of the animals have large enclosures, which is a good thing, but it is quite a haul between exhibits.
The distances are so great they rent bicycle carts, which I have never seen at any other zoo. The bicycle carts work here because the walking paths in the zoo are very wide.
If you have little ones, make sure you either have a stroller or rent the bicycle carts. The bicycle cart rentals are pricey ($39 for small and $54 for large for three hours), so keep that in mind when budgeting for this zoo.
If looking to save on admission, look online for discounts. Currently, Mondays have adult admission for $10 and they were discounting admission by $3 on all other days online.
The zoo exhibits themselves were spectacular and most seemed new. Favorites for us were the Amazon exhibits featuring a Jaguar and a Harpy Eagle and the large aviary called Wings of Asia. The zoo is also beautifully landscaped with tropical plants.
Would highly recommend going to this zoo on a cool and/or cloudy day due to the amount of walking involved and there being very few indoor exhibits. One of the weirdest things about this zoo is that you aren’t pestered by seagulls or pigeons while dining outside. Instead, there are many ibis ready to snatch any food that falls to the ground.
Zoo is located far from major tourist areas and is on the southwest side of Miami. About a half hour from South Beach if no traffic.

Truly an amazing safari adventure! Bring a pair of cute Nikes, hold the hand of your loved-one, and adventure together through the many different "areas of the world" while viewing diverse and exotic animals! The elephants were gorgeous to observe from afar and feeding the giraffes is a must! In addition, make sure to try the zoo's ice-cream for a quick refreshment!

My wife, two young daughters and I went to the Zoo Miami while visiting from California. We took a private tour of the zoo, which was a two and a half hour trip on a golf cart with a guide. The zoo was very nice, very clean and had many of the most requested animals, per my daughters.
The one thing to remember is this zoo is HUGE. Make sure you have an entire day to spend here. If the private tour isn’t for you, get one of the family-sized bikes to share, otherwise little ones will tire out quickly.

We had an amazing experience at Zoo Miami! We took the VIP and Backstage tour with Anthony as our personal tour guide. Anthony was a wonderful guide - he was friendly, knowledgeable and fun! We strongly recommend visiting this incredible zoo. As a plus, the food is great!!

The Miami Zoo is a fun place to visit with families. Great displays. A nice play to visit on a rainy day.

I've been all over the world, this was probably the worst zoo I've ever seen. It was completely filthy dirty bird s*** everywhere on every bench.
The people were extremely rude that work there.
Most of them were on their cellphone. I could care less about you. We rented a bike which did not work. And they refuse to give our money back or even to get another bike. My son got a hot dog which had a dead Fly in it. The trash games were overfilled trash everywhere throughout the zoo. We saw some employees that looked like they were there to clean itop but we're asleep behind bushes and buildings. The animals looked sickly and weak like they were not Feeding them properly. We did talk to someone who worked at the zoo that fed the animals. And they complained that the zoo was not getting them the right food. We complained To the head of security and they laughed at us. I'm glad they think it's funny. Later on, I saw that same Head of security person. Smoking pot. This was the worst zoo I have ever been to in my life and would never go back.

Had an absolutely wonderful day at the Zoo with my 20-somethings and my in-laws (3 generations). Everyone loved it...even the in-laws. We took the tram ride around the back of the park-worth it for those who tire easily. The park was SO CLEAN. Loved the water bottle filling stations. Most animals were easily in view and the variety of species was fabulous. Signage was great. Lunch was reasonably priced. Will come back.

The Miami Zoo is huge, clean, friendly staff, and I recommend going at anytime but summer, summer is too hot, the animals seem to be well taken care of

One of the coolest Zoos we’ve been too. Wide variety of animals and we were able to see many of them being fed. The scenery is beautiful which made the long walk to different parts of the zoo very enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this for families but be prepared for some walking!

This review is rather late, but we went in January 2024 to the Miami Zoo and paid for the VIP Tour. It may be slightly pricey, but it was totally worth it in our opinion. We had very limited time due to getting off a cruise ship and heading to the airport. We met Paul our tour guide and he was so knowledgeable and welcoming. The golf cart ride saved our legs and we got to see more of the animals faster than if we had walked. It was great that the animals have the ‘public’ area to the front, but also have areas where they can’t be seen, so they have some ‘downtime’. Feeding the giraffes, seeing the elephants up close as well as a sleeping koala was a very special honour. Would definitely recommend the experience!

Terrible. Old run down and dirty. Not a place for the poor animals. There are much better zoos out there! It’s over priced and there are way better things to do in Florida

Fabulous! We loved it!
It is an all day walk, the facilities are very good, the place is very cute, well maintained and a fabulous panorama for children

The Miami Zoo was larger than I expected and had very nice, un-barred habitats for the animals that still allowed easy viewing access. It was a great way to spend a day.

The zoo is hardly comparable to German or European zoos. Buy animals in the individual enclosures and then the prices are really expensive. It's a huge zoo where you can also get around good time, but not with looking at the animals but with running.

Nice, big, shaded, water stops, animals were very active. A pop up rain storm came and there were plenty of
Places to go under.

I have lived all over the country and visited many City Zoos, Zoo Miami is one of the top parks! Whether you're going to participate in one of their many community service events they often sponsor or just a stroll around the park it's worth the visit. It's outside the Miami city area, so be prepared for a drive, but again it's worth it.
Take the kids or go for an adult day, it's a fun outing.

Saw many species I had never heard of. That was great. Negative is they don't give out paper maps. Us older people cannot see a map on your phone good enough.

We were given a two hour tour of the zoo and loved it. The African and Australian sections were great. I loved how the African lions, elephant and other animals had such large areas to roam. I would happily go back.

We spent about 3 hours at the zoo. Because of the virus there were no animal shows - which we expected before we went in. It is a nice, clean zoo. Kids had fun.

Of all the Zoos I've visited this by far was the best. Because of bad knees I only managed to get around to seeing about half of the exhibits. A lot of walking unless you rent a peddle car, wheelchair or pay for a personal riding tour. Wish I had done that because it was a hot day and I got dehydrated. Hope to return to Miami to experience what I missed.

Nice zoo, and you can save a few bucks by searching online. If you go around the entire zoo it's over 3 miles so we had to keep that in mind.

Very nice everything, nice giraffes, spectacular to take pictures I think it cost 12 pains to feed them and is an unforgettable experience.
The food's not that good, but it works if you're hungry.

Miami Zoo is the ideal place to visit year round. There are some very cool attractions and interactive experiences to enjoy. I personally recommend the Big Cat adventure where you get close up and personal with the lions.

This zoo is enormous and beautiful! There are tons of animals but also plenty of interactive activities and tony restaurants. Parking lot is huge and included in ticket.

We went to see the new Mission Everglades and was so disappointment. there's was nothing to see it was so boring. barley saw the crocodiles. felt like a real fake and boring boat ride!!!! waste of time an money!!!!

Needed to “waste” time before a late flight and opted for a trip to the zoo.
It was a big zoo with good well laid out paths. The planting was lovely & we appreciated the labelling of trees etc. it was immaculately kept.
Whilst majority of the animal enclosures seemed ok it was noticeable that some herd animals e.g. grevys zebra & sable were kept as a solo animals which was sad to see.
Also a couple of the carnivores seemed bored/distressed and were pacing along their fence lines (black bear & jaguar), personally I found this distressing and felt these creatures did not deserve to be be confined in a zoo.
The painted dogs, which need to run, had a very confined space. I was saddened to see a cheetah in a very small enclosure.
Overall there seemed to be more effort/attention focused on children’s interaction (which looked great with water pads, rope bridges etc) than on some of the animal environments.
I’m glad I was an overseas visitor and that this was not my local zoo, in my opinion European zoos I have visited are better in terms of animal environments.

A very nice zoo, with plenty of space. The experience is always pleasant for children.
Lots of animals, amazing local vegetation. A lot of lizards and ibis walking around the site, it's exotic for us Canadians.
We ate on site and it was very good, excellent value for money.
The only disappointment was the alligator tunnel: it was so scratched and the water so cloudy that the children saw nothing at all.
On the other hand, there is the slide with the otters, which was very pleasant: the animals interact and come to see the children through the Plexiglas.

Rent a bike vehicle and go around the park. Sanitary conditions are good. The giraffe feeding experience is great.

I have trouble walking. This place has bicycles to rent. Perfect for lots of people. We were interested primarily on taking photos of birds. The keeper told me that the aviary has a hundred bird varieties. The handout only showed half of that. The place was clean and we got to speak to keepers as they fed in the evening about 4 pm.

Beautiful zoo ! So big territory. Amazing animals . Great customer service. We spent all day there and really enjoyed! Definitely recommend!

Cycle rental is a must. Only available to purchase online (advice doing it earlier). 95% of all animals are there. Maybe before there where many exhibits closed but now is not the case (Rhino is closed though). Train is not working (if you have a cycle you don’t need it anyway).
All good and nice. Not so many people. Great place, great animals, I would come back again.
No physical maps = no problem you dont need a printed map! Just take a picture there and have it on your phone. Chill. No drama. Too much drama on earlier posts.

Zoo Miami is a great place to take children of all ages--even if you have a zoo at home. Hippos, two-hump camels, Somali wild ass--it's all here! Definitely take the tram tour (adults $7), as it will save you a lot of walking. The zoo's main drawback is its size and long walks in the tropical South Florida sun.

Unforgettable experience! So much to see, so much to do! You can walk from one cage to another the whole day, never get tired or bored, and the day is not really enough to see everything! I want to go there again, and again, and again! Never enough time :-)

I love this zoo. It is best to arrive early early, to try and beat the heat, and also because it is large zoo when you want to have plenty of time to explore. There are plenty of options for food and refreshments, and even for drinks, should it be an after hours event.

It was wonderful we got to see pretty much the whole entire park. The train in the zoo doesn’t work so It is a bit of a walk if you decide not to rent the bikes or electric animals they are a bit pricy if your on a budget. They also have a little water park for the kids if it gets too hot which is really refreshing. The elephants and the Giraffes were my ultimate favorite. The food is pretty good I do recommend getting the lunch pass.

Superb very spacious park with a lot of animals placed by continent.
Possibility to feed giraffes / parrot and camel for $5.
Lots of shade throughout the park.
A beautiful experience

I had a great experience at the zoo. I got to see most of the animals and grab some great pictures. There were also plenty of places to grab some water to keep me hydrated. I highly recommend Zoo Miami.

Excellent Experience. We loved all the squirrels during the way. Was amazing to feed the giraffe and see the elephants. The final part with the slide where the crocodile can swim above you was amazing. Our fourth time and we still coming back. I love to have the bikes, the draft beers, and all stops with snacks

I saw lots of animals like the Cuban crocodile, giraffes, anacondas, frogs, sea turtles, and much more. It was an awesome experience that I would like to repeat again one day. Even though I had to walk a lot to get to see every single animal within the zoo, my family and I loved it so much that we want to be there again. The habitat of every animal is unique and is very well adapted for them to live in. The map that is supplied to you when you come into the zoo helps you to not get lost because it's a huge place. It's normal to not know where to go exactly when it's the first time you have been in there. Nevertheless, the map is located at every part of the zoo so you can use it as a reference of where exactly you are and where exactly to go. For those reasons and more, I love this place.

I never received my ticket from Tripadvisor and yet the amount was charged to my card. So I had to pay again at the entrance.

I just got off a cruise ship and had a day to spend in Miami, so I chose to visit Zoo Miami. I was dismayed at this zoo. Many, many of the enclosures were empty with signs saying construction is happening or that the animals are on a “vacation”… so there were not actually many animals to see. In fact, there are large sections where the zoo is playing animal sounds through speakers but there are zero animals that you’re actually seeing or hearing. Inside the Australia section, it was very appalling to see zero zoo staff around. There is a Tree Kangaroo and a Koala behind glass with many signs stating this is a quiet area and to specifically not tap on the glass. However there was no one to enforce that, so children and parents alike were screaming in that area and tapping/banging on the glass. Worst of all though was witnesses the Wombat. Animals are my passion and I work with all types of animals. This wombat was circling and I have it on video. Circling is often started by boredom, but quickly becomes deadly. If this zoo is not able to keep their wombat happy, they need to either remove him to a rehab, get him toys and such to play with, and honestly a larger habitat; this wombat is going to die. Worst of all, it took quite some time to track down staff to tell them about this and they had zero concern. They did not even know that it goes from boredom to actual insanity and then death. I’m concerned.

We go to the Miami zoo every year for the past 10 years, this year very disappointing - especially with covid, people we walking around with no masks or masks no on properly, no social distancing, the sanitization stations were rare to find and when you did find one they were empty. As beautiful and busy as this zoo is, I expected their standards to be much higher. Love visiting the animals, they were very active during our walk.

I live about 3 hours away from Miami, we always go every time we get an opportunity to go to the Zoo. The animals are well taken care of and the exhibits are really nice. You can walk the Zoo it takes 4-5 hours or you can rent a bike. There are plenty of places to eat and get things to drink but I would bring my own water though it can get very expensive. Don't forget to bring sunscreen!

A nice zoo, not too big. We made the visit to kill some time before our flight. Sadly, the tram out of service which would have made it easier for us to see more.

Really fun day. Surprisingly big with loads of different animals and sections. You can spend a lot of time just wandering around and still not seeing everything.

We have a great zoo where we live and have been to some other amazing zoos near us. We really liked that this zoo felt like the animals areas were of decent size and well maintained. We enjoyed crawling through the tunnel under the gator. We didn't make it through the whole zoo due to the size and wish we would have taken the tram.

Lovely, quiet surroundings. Animals in abundance. Facilities clean. Landscaping beautiful. Food surprisingly good.

We visited the zoo in a group of friends and it was really fun, we took a lot of pictures because we saw a lot of animals and we liked the experience.

We loved our visit to Zoo Miami. Its big and you have to walk a lot, unless you rent a scooter. We didn't see some of the animals in their exhibits, kinda sad about that. But feeding the giraffe made up for it. They are such beautiful animals. Great place to visit in Miami.

Be prepared to walk...lots of walking. Rent a bike or a personal chauffer especially if travelling with small children and the elderly. My kids loved feeding the giraffe. Some areas were closed off such as the bird and butterflies. Animals were at a great distance in my opinion (i guess for safety reasons). Great afternoon stroll.

August in Fla is hot. Very hot. All the portable mister were great. They sprayed the finest mist and cooled you off. There were a good size of people there also. The Zoo is very clean and there are many animals.m

Such an amazing experience. Very good experience. The Zoo is a huge and has a lot of walking. Great landscaping and visual effects make you feel like animals in their natural habitats. Animals have large, attractive enclosures. Enjoyed the tiger, orangutan enclosures, lots of room for animals. I would come back for sure.

Very very cool Zoo. Underrated in my opinion. This place was stunning. Well thought out, very large but comfortable. Highly recommend for a family seeking adventure.

This is a great zoo, but you will not get the most out of it unless you consider the below "add-ons." They are not part of what Trip Advisor covers and you should book ahead on the Miami Zoo website:
1) Pedal Carriages - BIG zoo, these carts are a big stress reliever!
2) Pygmy Hippo - Behind the scenes (close to animal, but no touching)
3) Rhino Experience - This one is a "don't miss" as you get activities directly from the rhino
Also, and free, the amazon rainforest section is very cool.

We were so disappointed in this zoo. I can see why they rent bikes and those electric animals. This place is huge. But so many exhibits were empty. Even at 10:00 AM. The areas for the animals are nice and large but all for only one animal. A lot of exhibits were under construction. We did enjoy the slurrpies with alcohol. There is so much wasted space. The animals were few and far between. We were not impressed. There are a lot of drinking fountains and misting areas. No signage in the larking kot for the main entrance.

I don't like. Huge territory but there are not a lot of animals in fact. The best are giraffes and options to feed them for add $12. I compare this zoo with Europen, Bali and Moscow. I don't recommend in general

We went because we looked online and saw the Covid protocol. This made us feel comfortable. Unfortunately, there were no staff around to enforce the mask mandate. In order to see animals, people came right into our personal spaces and many many without masks. I was disappointed and found it difficult to really enjoy myself.

Fun, some shade. Bought the food included tickets, which includes a souvenir cup (refill for $1). Facial coverings required.

This zoo is huge and we only allowed ourselves 3 1/2 hours and we felt rushed. Definitely take a WHOLE day to come here & enjoy if you can. There’s a lot to do, especially if you have kids. My 19 month old really enjoyed it. We got a family cart that we petaled around and she sat up front. It was really cool. I would definitely get it again to cover more ground faster. One thing I will say is that the employees were mostly RUDE. The very first employee I had an interaction with was borderline aggressive! Cici at Ellie’s Cafe was the first person I talked to and she rolled her eyes when I said I wanted to look at the menu. She kept yelling at me to order even though there was nobody behind me. (Don’t you get paid by the hour anyway…?) Then she was whispering to her coworker (Queen) and I felt so disrespected. For literally no reason. Then she lied to my grandma and told her that if she got the souvenir cup that she would get free refills of soda, which we later found out is not true by another rude employee. Why is everyone so miserable working here? Such a shame. Anyway, it didn’t ruin our time but IF we come back, I would hope people are nicer!!

Very pleasant experience for this multigenerational family - a lot of fun. A whole day experience. We walked the entire area by choice but the fun rydables are an option. You get to see an impressive array of animals, explore habitats, enjoy new discoveries. Dining experience was good as well. Child's package includes a meal and a souvenir cup.

Wasn’t expecting such great and quantity of animals. Thought is was small but its very big and fun!!

Amazing zoo experience for the whole family! The membership is definitely recommended as more than one day is needed to experience everything also you get to skip the ticket line and have park discounts. We plan on renting the family bike the next time we visit as none were available unless you had a reservation. To be fair, it was a busy holiday weekend.

First things first: this zoo is over 700 acres. Before you go, reserve a peddle cart. When we got there all the carts were sold out. So that's a LOT of walking. Enjoyed watching the animals that we did see -- meaning we pooped out from all the walking. There is a water play area for kids. Also, there are designated smoking areas in case you need one. Several of Dip'n Dot stands if you or your kids get hungry.
HINT: don't go on a weekend. Screaming kids everywhere.

We really enjoyed our day at the zoo.
The landscape is lush and tropical.
Excellent giraffe exhibit. We really enjoyed feeding the giraffes! Excellent zebras.
The silverback gorilla was ominously front and center. They have dromedary camels as well as Bactrian! The monorail is meh. It might be worth your time to rent one of the buggy bikes as the exhibits seem spread out nice zoo

We’ve been here over an hour and we’ve seen one angry monkey, a depressed kangaroo and a sleeping koala. The “rainforest” is an audio recording. If zero was an option, I would choose it.

have been here three times and have found the big tiger in the same position - Staring away from the crowds. Not enough animals. Drop a coin here and there and everywhere. It's like a begging zoo. The monorail is suspiciously broken on days where people need it the most, but making people walk is great for the begging coin spots and the kiosks.

We barely see some animals. It is like a big botanic garden and by surprise you may see some birds, pig and dog ! Loose of time and a big dislike for kods :(

Zoo was okay. It’s a hot summer day so we rented an overpriced bike. A lot of staff are RUDE unfortunately. So so experience

Missing a few big animals like the tiger, gorilla and chimps. Other than that, great.stuff. The lions were the main attraction.

We decided to book a VIP experience because of the sheer size of the zoo. The animals looked healthy and well groomed. The paths and zoo environs were clean
The Zoo Transportation Guide was the icing on the cake. She was knew all the animals by name. I highly recommend her- she was awesome!

It is a very large park.. we rent bicycles so we can tour it whole. We went in summer and with many degrees it is difficult to walk it, it is very large. You can feed the Giraffes is wonderful..Highly recommended for big and young. But if you have difficulty walking, it may not be the best picture.

This is by far one of the best zoos that I’ve been to! It is true there is a lot of walking and the food is pricey. But there are tons of animals and the park is so well maintained. The staff is great and the amenities are excellent. If you have small kids make sure uou bring strollers and the elderly might want to rent a bike because it is huge. But it makes it all the better because the animal enclosures feel like they are more humane. The Variety in the animals is the best I’ve ever seen. The heat of Miami does effect how many of the animals will be out. So I advise going on a cooler day.

Our first visit to the Miami Zoo. largest and oldest zoo in Florida. It is located at the former Richmond Air Station, in southwestern Miami, in southern metropolitan Miami-Dade County.
Visiting the Miami Zoo with a 3-year-old is a magical experience, for him as a child and for us as parents because we enjoy through his eyes, expressions and emotions.
We enjoyed the place because of its nature. The rooms are very well designed as well as the zoo in general. It is nice to walk thanks to the trees.
The zoo is spacious and accessible, perfect for little ones to explore. There are play areas, a splash, interactive sites with animals, you can feed the birds and the giraffes.
The zoo has a wide variety of animals and exhibits, which capture the attention of the little ones. Habitats are well cared for and so are animals.
Some tips and advice based on our experience
Carry stroller: The zoo is extensive and a stroller will facilitate the tour and allow you to save a few dollars of not having to rent the means of transport they offer at the zoo (3h are around $30 to $54 usd)
Hydration and snacks: There are plenty of sitting areas, but it's nice to have water and something to eat on hand. Although the park has a lot of drinkers.
Plan the activities: Check the map at the beginning and mark the areas that interest your child the most.
Prices: We pay $27 for adults and $24 for Matti, but check for discounts or special days.
Bring a change of clothes for the kids.
In short, we had a great time, Matteo had a lot of fun, the Miami Zoo offers a fun and educational experience that parents and children will enjoy together.

I wanted to like this zoo so much. Crowded. Too many bicycles. Many exhibits contained only one animal....
My biggest concern was the lack of signage to let you know where you were. Did not see one zoo employee except at the food courts.
Zoo was clean.

I spent the day at Zoo Miami with my family and we had a blast! The zoo's tropical setting and wide range of animals made for a fun and educational experience. I think the $22 admission fee was reasonable. Don't miss the giraffe feeding and monkey enclosure!

Great family fun day. Tickets were OK price wise. However, lots of additional costs. Would recommend hiring a pedal bike/ taxi to see everything. This was also a fun experience. Aminal feeding was also a big hit. Lots of animals to see but a big number of empty enclosures too. Very early closing time given the cost. Some employees in the gift shop were a little clueless

An expansive, beautiful property with a comprehensive collection of animals and exhibits, I was pleased to find the layout straightforward and logical, comprised of two large loops meeting in the middle without meandering paths and confusing dead-ends. I was able to walk the entirety of the grounds in about two hours and spent another hour or so in the various exhibits, opting to spend the money on the charming Lostman's River Ride (there's also a carousel and pedal boats if one is interested).
Speaking of transportation, Zoo Miami used to offer a monorail to get guests from one end of the property to the other. Because it has been retired, the decision was made to offer Rydables, which are animal-shaped ECVs that can be rented based on time used. While a nice idea in theory, they seemed to be used mostly by teens with no regard for pedestrian traffic, so I was constantly having to be aware of them coming up behind me out of fear of getting into a collision with one. Great in theory; less so in execution.
If you're a lover of animals, there isn't much reason not to visit.

Small number of animals but most of them look well cared...I think some habitats should be bigger so animals feel better like the jaguar...In general it was a nice experience and I would suggest better assitance from the people working here...Visitors many times got lost and no one to help...

Very bad experience. The tickets are not recognized at the entrance. Waiting for a long time for officers there to check and eventually cannot be verified

Didn't, like it at all, throught it was going to be completely different, didnt not enjoy at all, smh

We really enjoyed the animals that were out. There were quite a few exhibits that were closed.
We rented a bike taxi and the worker Darius was very rude. He definitely doesn’t like his job or knows what customer service means. It’s too bad he put a damper on the whole process of getting the taxi that we were all excited about. It wasn’t worth the money.

Horrible service didn’t even get the zoo experience will not recommend or come back at this point waste of cash

I had a wonderful day exploring Zoo Miami and gaining insight and appreciation for the numerous animals that inhabit it. In some ways it felt like a safari more than a traditional zoo experience. I would highly recommend for anyone interested in animals.
The animals have a wealth of space - the zoo sits on 750 acres - and look to be well taken care of. The animals seem to have ample space to hide away from visitors if they wish. I participated in the giraffe feeding experience which was very pleasant for I believe both the humans and the giraffes, as the giraffes were all lined up waiting for their lettuce, freshly cleaned by staff in front of us. Signage on the animal enclosures was very educational with info about nocturnal/diurnal species, behaviors, population distribution, and diet.
The facilities are clean, there are plenty of food/snack/beverage options, and ample seating to get a rest. I do recommend going during the Winter months for a better chance at a cool day. The zoo necessitates a lot of walking or cycling, which I cannot imagine doing in the worst of the Summer. Speaking of which, this zoo is huge so if you're with children or have limited mobility, I highly highly recommend renting a 2-4 person quad-cycle to get around.
Tickets are reasonably priced, entry was smooth, and there is a photographer on site that takes an entry photo for free with of course opportunity to purchase more shots. Parking was simple. It is a far drive from the city, so definitely account for that and traffic. Coming early is the best way to get parking and have time to see most of the exhibits. I will definitely be returning at some point.

My kids loved it, there was so much to do and so many amazing animals to see. Because it's summer, I don have to say bring water and use sunscreen unless you want to burn. Thankfully the zoo had a lot of places with shades that were very easy to find.
It was a great experience!

We were a group of 6, two people were older, so we took a tour by car with Zoo staff who explained in a very professional way the whole tour with stops at key sites to see the main animals. The tour included feeding for lunch and the possibility of feeding birds and giraffes, the activity with the giraffes was very good as an experience.
You can notice the quality of maintenance of the Zoo, everything very clean, good signage, but mainly the animals are very well taken care of.
We went one day Monday and there were not many people which helped a lot in the tours.

We had the best time! It is an amazing experience for little children with loads of hands on activities! My only issue was with the dinosaur by the entrance. My son was really scared and it took a while to calm him down. I’d recommend removing it so the little kids won’t be afraid. Thanks!

This zoo is very large- lots of animals- the enclosures are very well made.
We loved everything.
Possibility to do the zoo in volo 2 or 4 - but a little expensive (54 dollars)
I highly recommend this place

Great zoo! Animals and more animals. Good food, and drinks. Bikes for my partner to get around on, lots of walking involved, I mean of course.. it’s a good zoo!

Old and run down Zoo. The animals are kept such small enclosures it’s horrible. I feel so sorry for them. They look miserable and no mental stimulation. I watched an African wild dog pace back and forth around a tree for 20 minutes. I watched another Ape huddle in a corner and eat brown paper towel. Don’t go here it’s a waste of time and money

Not as much animal as expected, but it was cool to see also a lot of habitat was missing animals and did not stay that longgg

Very disappointed! Half the exhibits are empty. The walk around is nice if you are there to view plants, but don’t go if you are seeking a normal zoo full of animals. I was not the only one at the zoo disappointed as well. Value for the money is not worth the visit.

We visited in august 2023. This zoo is large there is a lot of walking but it is mostly flat. We did the giraffe feed which is just a walk up which you pay an amount and get to feed the giraffes, it was definitely one of the highlights of our holiday. The staff are very friendly and it is a really nice and clean zoo.

We are from NY and we loved our experience at Zoo Miami, wonderful installations and service. Amazing experience!!!

Great time, the best... Its beautiful, they take care of the animals.
if you visit Miami you have to visit the Zoo

Great facility and friendly staff but kind of disappointed with the number of animals we saw.
Saw some animals, some were hiding - could not see, some had a notice saying "I am not around" - this you only see after you walk all the way to the spotting area not at the start. 10 Years back this was a better experience. This time it was not value for money

We arrived at about 11:00 AM on a Wednesday. The parking lots are huge but there were few visitors that day. We purchased Seniors tickets ($17.21 + tax) and all day tram tickets at $5.each.
This is a magnificent and expansive property. There are four main areas, Asia, Australia, Amazon and Africa, displaying the animals of each region. The animals range over their enclosures at will so they may not be visible when you are nearby. We found quite a few displays closed or vacant. During our visit on a Wednesday we were fortunate that there were few visitors but this resulted in most of the main food outlets being closed. The monorail was also closed but a "tram" was substituted. Of particular interest for the next short while are the animated dinosaurs that are display throughout the grounds.
Because of its size and numerous exhibits allow at least four hours to explore.

Since covid-19 began, our family has taken precautions seriously. We waited to venture to certain places and we’ve yet to sit and eat at a restaurant. We decided to go to zoo miami today (12/22/20) to do something with our kids and I was appalled. First and foremost the zoo was crowded. No one respected boundaries/social distancing, and face masks were NOT mandated despite signs to the contrary. I witnessed a woman walk in and remove her mask immediately. She was not eating or drinking or anything to offer the benefit of the doubt. This was sheer disrespect for those who may have underlying health concerns. I witnessed tons of “chin diapers” almost everywhere I looked. Guys, miami dade’s numbers are climbing significantly, and THIS IS WHY!!! It’s useless if your nose is sticking out... I saw some other idiot with his mask hanging on one ear and he had the nerve to walk near me and shout his partners name over my head. I was sooo done and had to leave before causing a major scene and bringing the news in (though I’m not above calling Channel 7 and 10 which will be my email after I post this). Please don’t get me wrong; I love the zoo and what it represents in terms of education and rehabilitation to the animals, and respect those who dedicate their lives to the care of these amazing creatures, but If you are considering taking your kids to the zoo right now, or even going on your own, hold off. It is so not worth being the one statistic. To the staff at Zoo Miami and to Ron Magill himself: shame on you all for not enforcing the rules. PERIOD. You all had a scare with an ape in July. How about the staffs health or the visitors who patronize and support the zoo to keep it going and pay your salaries? I am so disgusted. I would sooner visit Disney World than recommend this cesspool to anyone.

We had a wonderful experience at the zoo. The cycle tour was exceptionally smooth and enjoyable, and we found the zoo layout and directions user-friendly.
One of the most remarkable aspects of our visit was the impressive variety of animals. It was truly a joy to see so many different species in their habitats, and unlike some other zoos, the animals were active and visible, not hidden away. My son declared this the best zoo visit we've ever had, and I wholeheartedly agree. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

Would highly recommend this beautiful zoo to anybody visiting the city. The setting is unique and truly a wonderful experience at any age.

The grandkids and I had a wonderful visit and will go back as there was so much to see that we didn't get to. I like how they are doing a lot of conservation and the animals have more space than other zoos I have been to. They also gave military discounts.

This is a wonderful zoo with the most expansive habitats I've seen for the animals at any zoo I've been to. I wish we'd had more than 3 hours to explore, and I'd come back for another visit for sure when we're in Miami again. We were rushing to try to see everything - we should have rented a safari cycle to get around since there can be quite a distance between habitats. It really would have helped since we had limited time. January was a great time to visit - it felt like we had the place to ourselves. Of course, that also means that not all the little food stands are open along the paths, but we had no problem finding snacks and drinks at the main food areas. It was a wonderful afternoon - definitely one of the top 3 things we did on our trip!

We drove almost an hour to visit the zoo. Stood in line for about 30 min, not a big deal. After paying $50 for my husband and myself we entered the zoo. Went straight to rent a bike. Was given a clipboard to fill out a form while in line behind about 40 people. 45 minutes later we are told by the single person that is working the booth that the credit card machine was down and we can go to an ATM on the premises to get money and get back in line. At this point there were more than 40 people that were in front and behind us. Meaning we would have to go to the back of the line after the ATM. We decided to leave and try to get a refund. Spoke with a very nice young lady (didn't get her name) who tried to help us. She took our tickets and went to speak with someone. When she came back out she told us the only thing they can do is give us passes and directed us to the front to speak with Esther (manager) and she would help us. Explained to Esther what we had just gone through and she said all they can do is give us passes since we already scanned the tickets to go in ?!?!? Not to make a scene, we took the tickets that, we were told, are good for 1 year. Ok, no problem, we'll come back. We get to the car and notice the date on the passes are December 2019. So, either Esther doesn't know what today's date is (March 1, 2020), or she doesn't know there are 12 months in a year.

Beautiful, clean and easy to navigate. Saw every station, took all day but was well worth it. So many favorites!

I am not a big zoo fan but our son wanted to go while visiting us. We all had a pleasant day. The animals all seemed to have the best environment they can have as prisoners. It is for the most part outside and the place is well maintained . It is also nicely landscaped and we went on a chilly winter day which made it even more pleasant to stroll. There are a large variety of animals that can be easily viewed .
The food courts are congested and not all well run. Food prices were very high for what you got. This is not Disney World.
They stopped the monorail due to Covid which made it more difficult to get around. The tram gives you a good over view but that’s an additional charge. It was delayed and their credit card machine did not work. Clearly this place has been affected by Covid and is not working on all burners just yet. It needs a consultant to come in.
Still we enjoyed the day and if they get their act together it could be a star attraction.

one of the animals un alived in my arms. and there were 15 small children chasing after me in the monkey showcase, the were all unsupervised. idk how they got there. SHEEP THEY FOUND ME. HEEEEEEELLLLLLPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!

My children enjoyed it very much!!! especially passing under a crocodile, everything was very well thought out for the children to enjoy. If you want to rest, it would be good to go for 2 days, or if not, go to the areas of most interest, because touring the entire park in 1 day is very exhausting.

Very beautiful and large zoo. The animals are numerous, diverse and clearly visible.
Well maintained park, the walk is pleasant. Numerous water points to cool off.
We managed to do everything on foot in 5 hours of walking and 12km with our 10 and 12 year old boys. The zoo is very big!
I highly recommend this zoo.
Go there as soon as it opens.
Some activities cost extra but it's worth it.
With toddlers or elderly people, I recommend strollers and/or cart rental.

A huge zoo with many, many animals. Each animal appeared to be in a low stress state and quite comfortable in its surroundings. Staff was great. Substantial military discount. We had flatbread pizza at the main restaurant which was quite good.

It's a lot of walking. We spend 5 hours just straight up walking. A lot of the animals are far from each other so it's more nature to see than the actual animals themselves. A lot of enclosures were empty. So many animals were not on exhibit. Not sure, if they had removed animals and left the enclosures there or if the animals were hiding. They should just change their name to a botanical garden instead calling themselves a zoo. They also had a lot of extra things you can’t do unless you pay. On the upside there's plenty of parking. And bathrooms and water are available in a lot of areas throughout the zoo.

We loved the zoo and the experience… the worker were super friendly and we loved the food package… definitely recommend and prices were reasonable

We took a cart your with David during a day it was mainly downpouring. He was wonderful and took us to see the animals that were out and about. Stopping for photo moments, education, snacks and even to gaze at the majestic animals we had an excellent time! Highly recommend this experience, zoo and David!

First of all, parking is free, which is great bc most of the zoos near me charge an outrageous amount just to park in their lot. This is a large zoo but easy to walk around and see everything. There are many food vendors throughout the park. Also, opportunities to feed rhinos, giraffes, etc. Overall a good stop on a nice day.

Great park area and well kept. CleanA but Lots of walking between exhibits and not really a lot to see…. Would not go back… best thing to do is rent one of those cycling things . We had a 2 year old with us so that was very helpful to have. But the exhibits were not impressive comparing with other zoos we been to. Next time we pick different adventure

I've been to a lot of zoo's around the world and Miami Zoo was to put it politely poor.
Whilst it was housed over a large area, the number of animals was disappointing.

We hadn't been to the zoo in a few years... but we like the changes. The nourish 305 was good addition for a light meal before walking around. When weather is great, perfect time to go .. enjoy!

Great time at the zoo, so many animal to see, flamingo, tiger, koala, monkeys, elephant, giraffes, crocodiles, zebra, cougar and so much. Kids water park area for the kids. Zoo has cafe were you can purchase food. The Amazon area is my favorite. Definitely recommend for anyone to go and experience the zoo.

Had a great time here. There were a lot of active animals. There are many different types of animals and activities. Wear comfortable walking shoes if you opt to not rent a Safari Cycle. It is a large zoo. The pricing isn't too bad either.

I had high expectations. I am shocked at all the positive reviews. Half the pens were empty, the animals on the whole looked depressed and lethargic, and the mechanical dinosaurs stole the show. If this is the future of zoos, the future is bleak. On a lighter note, the giraffes were beautiful. Plus, you can feed them. To sum this experience up, I won’t be going back.

A very nice zoo, with animals from all over the world, are kept and not behind bars

A beautiful, relaxing, environment. With the bonus of well kept animals in large and open habitats, many without cages and bars. The grounds are big enough that the 600 children there that day were hardly noticeable. Clean rest rooms, well placed. Some AC rooms when you need it. Food was very acceptable for all ages, from healthy to hot dogs.

Whatever city we vacation in my boyfriend has to visit the zoo. This zoo wasn't disappointing. We did the zoo our last full day in Miami and it was a full day experience. We enjoyed!

What a lovely zoo. Very spread out, helpful volunteer guides at the exhibits. Clean! Would recommend. Due to the extreme heat, we couldn't see everything, but would go back!

The Miami Zoo is a great place to visit if you are travelling with young children as they would really enjoy it.. we booked our tickets online through viator tours n it was easy... we arrived at 11 AM n since we had online tickets we directly headed to the entrance where, there was a photographer from the Zoo, he clicked few of our pics n gave us a card with barcode in case if we wanna print n buy them. Next thing was to decide, how we are going yo visit the zoo as its reallyyyyyyyy Big so walking wasn't the option. We asked a rep n she was sweet n kind to recommend not to take the paddled cart as it was me n my 10 years old daughter, she said that I will have to end up paddling whole time n that's exhausting so she suggested to take a Tram instead which was really a good n economical option, we paid $ US 7 each for our Tram tour
which was 45 minutes long n it was Fun, Our tour guide Alex was really sweet, funny n informative. where as the paddling carts were US$ 55 for 2 hours. We watched the bird show n it was fun to see baby copying everything so cutely.. we saw lions elephants n lot of other types of animals..Hat n Shades are A Must as it was really Hot... we finished the tour In Tram ( it leaves every hour) n than again went back to click some pics with Lions n elephants. Overall we finished everything in 2 hours, we could have stayed longer but we had shopping 🛍 🙃 on the list next so we headed out..

We visited the zoo on Sunday, right after opening. The zoo is very clean and well maintained. It was not very crowded and the paths are very open. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. There's a wide variety of animals to see.

The impressions after the excursion were positive, we were very pleased. Disadvantage: not all the enclosures had animals.

Not only is it the most expensive zoo I've been to, but they try to get as much money from you while you're here. My son is allergic to pretty much all the food we could buy at the zoo, so we brought a cooler with food for him to eat at lunch as well as a sippy cup with milk/breast milk for my other son to drink. We were told we couldn't bring it in and had to exit the zoo to eat lunch. This has not been an issue for us at any of the other major zoos we've been to.

Barely any animals and i drive 2 .5 hours to come to the zoo. The web site should be honest and advise less animals. Lame very. Your better off going closer to your house even if your zoo is lame because this was a disappointment. I went there in 2013 and loved it but that was a long time ago. Even if covid is reason be honest about so few attractions.

Great zoo but many attractions were closed. Very big acreage so get your walking shoes out. The gift shop was decent wish they had more Zoo Miami merch. Most items were generic animal print shirts, hats, water bottles, etc. Food and drinks are a bit pricey but that’s a given. We didn’t have time to see the whole zoo because of other plans but spent 3 hours there, so if I’d say it’s definitely a whole day event. Overall it was great seeing the beautiful animals almost a stones throw away. Definitely worth the $25 bucks!

It was a great experience to vist this amazing zoo. Unfortunately the bus stopped very far from the zoo, so we had to walk for a very long time to the zoo.

We purchased the admission by buying the Go Miami pass online. There was plenty of parking and it was easy to get in. They did not offer a paper map so we had to use the online map on my phone. That made it hard to see which direction to go. Some of the markings were a little hard to figure out what they were.
The exhibits seemed very spread out which probably means the animals have lots of room to roam. Loved the alligator exhibit and the tunnel to crawl in.
It was a wonderful zoo. It was a very hot day and we were thankful for the misters!
A few complaints, the price of admission is high enough. But then they charge extra for the tram, for the train, for the carousel, for feeding animals, etc. I wasn't prepare for those extra expenses. They also have cycles to rent and there were plenty of them being used. After walking all day I can see why. We just couldn't afford it! We felt there could be better signage. We got turned around and a bit lost several times because trying to navigate via my mini phone screen was difficult, not to mention drained my battery significantly.
We had burgers at the Carousel Cafe and I will say they were very good! The grillmaster working that day did a great job!
We would go back again, but would love a paper map and more signs to guide the way!

A great Zoo worth a visit. Animals live in large areas, not cages. Be prepared to walk about 3+hours to see all exhibits. There are various modes of transportation you can rent.
Admission is very affordable, however drinks and food inside are expensive. Definitely bring sunscreen and walking shoes

Wow! Magic!! So many animals, and so big!!!
I was my 6 year old daughter and we rent an electric vehicle because it's so big you can easily spend the day there and you can't walk everything under the heat.

Well. Our experience was not as expected.
On positive:
Flamingos at entrance were nice , and we saw a tiger hiding in a Buddha temple. But most of other animals were hiding.
The place is more like a children park with many places for younger kids to play and jump exploring animal characters. They have several splash areas, but only one was open.
We did like food with choices of sandwiches, salads, pizzas.
On negative side (and unfortunately more of it than positive):
It has too few animals despite being relatively large place.
They have monorail to move around large area, BUT it was closed due to COVID. I am highly in doubt that it was the reason, but probably way to force people to rent extremely expensive bicycle carts $54-79/3hr. Those carts are NOT golf-carts, so you actually have to peddle them, so price is too high and it does not help people with disabilities. I saw a family with grandparents and two grand kids, who asked for a cart to be driven back , and they were refused - they were told that do not provide transportation back even for elder or disabled due to COVID. Very disturbing encounter in my opinion.
One more - very inconsiderate transportation issue: the road to ZOO is shared with COVID testing site, so unless you notice a hidden shortcut, you will be stuck for 1 hr trying to get the entrance due to 95% if cars going to the testing site. This is also an issue for anyone like UBER/LYFT to pick you up.
So despite good food, but due to lack of animals and poor transportation options, I cannot recommend this place. I would not call it a Zoo either.

We had a very pleasant experience at this zoo. We had to rent the cart because it would be impossible to see the areas without it, I just thought the price was a little expensive but we had no other alternative. The area for kids to get wet is amazing and my son loved it. I thought the space of the animals and how they live freely was cool. We enjoyed the experience.

Cycles area must, as others have said. Going early, too. When we returned our cycles at 12:30, there was a huge line and the staff was announcing they were out. Plus it’s just nice when there are less people. Agree with others there aren’t a lot of animals to see, and the staff in the koala house had no idea where the baby was. What? Not very impressive overall.

The workers are kind and tell about animals if you have question.Friendly with kids also play along with them! You can feed animals in place where it’s allows!

Visited on 1/23/21 and was very Disappointed,
Used to visit often when I lived in Miami since it was called Metro zoo and always had a great time. last time I visited was around 4 years ago and was till good. Since Covid we thought it would be a great place to visit because its outdoors and Zoo grounds is big. We drove about 3 hours take our kid for the first. arrived around 2pm and by the time we got our tickets and rental bike it was almost 3:30pm. no social distancing or organization. But worst was all the empty enclosures and barely animals. we saw more squirrels running around that anything else!! would like to think it was maybe due to covid or the time of day we visited because we would looking forward to making it a reoccurrence trip to bring our kid but not sure will be back . Wrote to Miami Zoo to see if there was maybe an explanation and still haven't heard anything back.

It was a perfect weather day to go to the zoo, even if just for an hour. That was all the time we had, but it was worth it. This zoo is huge! 750 acres, one of the largest in Florida. You have to be in top physical shape to walk it all. I would have to do it in several visits. We did see the flamingos, which was incredible. Such graceful birds. Next time, we will do another section of the Zoo.

It’s an amazing place for family. It’s huge and tires you out when on foot but that’s the fun. You can move at your own pace and not a single dull moment. A must see when in Miami.

We ordered this package and we had issues pull up our reservation. Once we had it up it was nearly time for the zoo to close... Major fail!

Because of the threat of inclement weather, we decided to opt for a trip to Zoo Miami instead of spending the day at the pool. It became immediately apparent that we made a great choice. This is a wonderful zoo with lots to see and do. My son loved the gator exhibit, while my wife thought that the otters were the cutest animals on the planet - that was, of course, until we saw Milo the Koala!
We had lunch at the zoo, and it was delicious. However, the giraffes and the camels that we fed thought that their lunch was even more delicious!
I would recommend Zoo Miami to anyone - young or “young at heart!”

It wasn't the best zoo we have visited so far but it was fun driving those bicycles all together and watch the animals

Every time I travel I go to a zoo and since I travel twice a year I’ve been to many zoos. This one is excellent. A pretty good price for a ticket considering all there is here. I spent 5-6 hours here. A lot of the attractions have close up viewing spots. My favorite was the crocodile tube! There’s a wide variety of animals. I ate at Nourish 305 and had the strawberry chicken salad. It was so good! I’m so glad the zoo had lighter options so I didn’t have to eat a burger and have an angry stomach the rest of the day. I did get an icee at Miami Ice and it was definitely way over priced but helped beat the heat. I was surprised by the amount of shade offered. The gift shop is pretty on par with prices as other attractions. Definitely recommend this zoo!

We had a good time, but were a little disappointed as we expected more with the incredible reviews. Its a nice zoo, but no where near as nice as others we have been to. The monorail is no longer operational, there were many empty exhibits, and it just seamed kind of run down. We did the 45 minute tram tour which was nice on a day in the 90’s, but the first 10 minutes of it is on a back lot service road. The staff were all super nice with a good variety of animals. If you haven’t been to a bigger zoo or are looking for a fun day with kids this is a great option. We won’t visit again, if In Florida we found Tampa Zoo and Animal Kingdom to be much better and will opt to go there.

Miami Zoo the experience is different because it's been closed for the pandemic. The facilities ,rest rooms are open, but the trams, some food places are not. Lots of animals, some a little surprised to see you. Not as many visitors as normal.

The best! Ever. Like the best. B E S T. Like !!! Yay. The best. Eva EVA. BESTA EVA. EVEREST. BEST. Like the very best.

It’s been awhile since I’ve been to the Miami Metro Zoo. Overall it was good but there were a few disappointments. The zoo didn’t seem as plush and green as it used to be. A lot of empty areas with no animals. And the price of a soft pretzel was ridiculous. I don’t even pay $8 at a stadium. Hopefully they can clean it up and make it better.
I definitely recommend going in the morning when it’s cooler and less crowded. By 2pm on a Sunday it was packed. Bring your own water bottle. They have refill stations thru out the zoo.
My 2yr old great niece had a great time!

I loved the Zoo Miami! It’s a big zoo. There is so much to see. I saw a lot of people talking about the amount of walking but my fiancé and I didn’t have a problem with it at all. (Aged 38 and 47). Not in great shape either. Lol. I would wear good shoes tho. Every exhibit was very clean and the animals were pretty active. Highlights: alligator exhibit-crawl in an underwater tunnel. The alligator was sitting on top of the tunnel so we could see his whole body. The fruit bat exhibit shows bats flying through two connecting tunnels. They were flying all over. I’m not used to seeing bats flying. They’re usually just sleeping. Sea otters were very playful and came right up to us at the window. Aviary was amazing. The birds were everywhere and very active. I could go on and on. Really one of the best zoos I’ve ever been to.

It's been 17 years since my last visit to Zoo Miami and my how things have changed (and improved) here since then. This has always been a large, well run zoo but it was even better with this latest visit. Price for admission is about on par with other zoos this size, though seniors do get a 25% off reduction. It can be a bit of a challenge to get here, especially on days when the traffic is heavy. But, it's worth the trip.
Usually, large zoos such as this one have zoo maps and sometimes animal footprints painted on the pathways so you know where you are going. This zoo does not have either, so it helps to print the zoo map from their website before you visit. Basically, Zoo Miami is broken down into three major pathways, with each route taking roughly two hours to cover on foot. As you enter, the flamingo exhibit is very nice and allows you get very close to these amazing birds. Just past this on the right is the exhibit for the Sumatran Tiger, another must see item. You can then go left, straight, or to the right into the various world zones, but be sure to cover all three thoroughly.
Our favorite exhibits included the jaguar exhibit which contains a cave that you can enter to see this magnificent cat up close if you are lucky. The two female African elephants are both 47 years old and put on their own little show if you time your visit when the trainer is feeding them. We also loved the Lowland Gorilla exhibit with it's two powerful silverback males, the painted wild dogs from Africa are a must see, and the precocious pygmy hippopotamus is quite entertaining and even used her water fountain jet by the pool as a personal bidet! Finally, the collection of adult and juvenile giraffes is equally impressive, and allows visitors to climb up a ramp onto a platform and feed them.
Zoo Miami offers a fair amount of shade, but on hot days you may want to take several breaks because there is a fair amount of walking here, or catch the tram if you prefer. COVID has shut down the zoo's monorail system, which hopefully will be operational again some day soon.
There are plenty of places to grab refreshments both near the entrance and on the various paths, and a nice gift shop can wrap your visit before exiting.
Suggestions for improvement would include re-introducing zoo maps when you pay for admission, color-themed painted animal tracks to better separate the zone you are in (similar to other large zoos like the Metro Toronto Zoo), and re-establishing the monorail system now that COVID is winding down.
Overall, this is a wonderful zoo and easily ranks among the top three that we have ever visited. It comes highly recommended.

This park needs to open back up how it used to be. This park is now smaller and way less interactive.

Renting a cycle is a must. Great time with the family. It was a first for my husband and 5yr old. My husband was more excited then our son 😁

Don't bother going to Zoo Miami until the animals are restored to pre-covid levels. Most displays have few to no animals on display. If you think you will need a bike, rent it online before hand as if is extremely difficult to get one at the park. Expensive and disappointing.

We purchased our tickets online because of covid19 and went whe zoo opened at 10 am. That worked out well as we parked close to admitting gate. Zoo is largest in Florida and has a great variety of animals many endangered species. Zoo employees were great to speak with about exhibits. You can walk, bicycle, monorail (not running due to covid19) tours (not with covid19). Animals housed in well kept areas. Food at Zoo was excellent (surprise, surprise). Would recommend this zoo to anyone who enjoys zoos.

If you want to see hundreds of iguanas and dozens of squirrels, then this is the zoo for you. First time to Miami Zoo in years and wow how it has changed. Worn down and overpriced. Other than the giraffe exhibit, every major exhibit either had no animals or ones that were so far and hidden you couldn't see them. They have tons of different pig and antelope species on display, but good luck on seeing a gorilla, big cat or even monkeys playing. The staff constantly tell you it is because of the heat (80 degrees when we went). Well Miami is over 80 degrees 9-10 months out of the year. Sorry that argument doesn't hold weight with me. First I have been there in the past on 90 degree weather days and there were more animals on display. Second, how does that argument work when there is literally no Crocodiles on display in the very cool water based crocodile exhibit? Something is wrong at this zoo.
So in summary, go only in December-February, bring binoculars, $200+ and be ready to see more iguanas than all other animals combined.

A lot of concrete. These widely paved walkways create expansive open pedestrian areas that lead to long walks to get to the animals. They have bikes for rent to deal with these distances. Hot and sunny with lack of shade in most areas. Showing its age a bit. The newer more lush and shaded Amazonian South America collection sector is wonderful and recommended.

First of all the zoo itself is great. My disappointment is that the monorail is "temporarily" down (which upon seeing any part of the decrepit monorail my guess is that it will be far from temporary). I paid quite a bit extra for 3 tickets because someone in my party has a problem with walking and then find out that riding option is closed. The trams that are supposed to be the replacement aren't on any schedule that I could determine and rarely saw them. So I had to pay extra to rent a bike mobile which is hard peddling on hills and must lock every time you stop. They should make it known that monorail is out of question on this site. Do not bother paying extra for this and then end up paying again for another form of transport. Ugh!!!

I was at the zoo with my 16 year old daughter as we are spending a few days in Hollywood, Florida, and we needed some rest from the sun 😁 There is not much to say. It is a beautiful zoo, but for us Germans the food and drink offered there was simply too expensive. Otherwise it was very nice.

A great day at the zoo. It's a pretty good value, considering how big the zoo is and the number of animals. The two-person "surrey" bike (also comes in bigger sizes) came in handy to cover the whole zoo in a day, although it is pricey at $54 for just a few hours. The tram ride at $7 per person wasn't worth it - it just moved too fast for taking photos and even to see the animals. We didn't do the fake airboat ride at $5 per person - we were told there are no animals to see, so we skipped it. They also have duck-shaped pedal boats at extra cost, but they weren't operating. All in all, a fun way to spend a day.

I visited the Zoo because of my children, however I am not a zoo fan, because I think the animals need to be free in their natural habit, or at least living with more of the same specie.
The Zoo is divided in world sections, like Africa, Australia, Asia, with animals according to the geographical area.
The regular Fee to entrance is $ 30 USD but you can buy the Meal package for $ 39, and get the meal at the oasis restaurant after noon.
You can book a bike for 2 or more people, it will make it easier to move around, specially if you are coming with little kids.
The Zoo has reasonable areas for big animals, like elephants, antilopes or lions, even for the Birds, however in the Australia section, there is a Koala and another animal in a small room each one, which I think that's not nice for some one who is goint to be lockdown for the rest of his life, at least they should be with animals of the same specie in bigger areas, to make lees stressful their lifes.
There is also a big turtle at the snake area, living in a small container, this little creature bearly moves....
Anyway, is just my opinion,.. But I think is OK for families

Lots of walking or you can ride the mono rail. The animals were fantastic and feeding the giraffe was super cool

A zoo a little strange level disposition. We have trouble navigating there then the animals are all hidden most of the time

Extremely too expensive for what you see. Barely any animals many areas under construction. The train is not working and the tram is at an additional cost. Once you are inside everything is an additional cost. You spend all day walking to see trees and a few animals, many are the same with different names. Definitely not worth the price. And the food is also over priced and good at all.

My husband and I always visit local zoos when we travel, this was the worst experience we have ever had. The majority of the enclosures had signs that stated "we are currently not at home" it was a huge waste of money.

Zoo Miami is one of the best in USA.
All of the regional exhibits—- Asia, Africa, Amazon and Australia are beautiful and have so many exotic animals!
If you bring kids or seniors, consider renting the pedal carts or taking the tram.
For lunch, eat at the Oasis Cafe near the front of the zoo. They have full menu with protein foods such as chicken and good burgers. The rest of the zoo only has carbs— pretzels, popcorn and sweets.

The zoo is very nice. The animals are well cared for. They seem healthy and happy. Visitors are able to view the animals relatively close , even the dangerous ones.
There will be a lot of walking, however you are able to rent a carriage bike that seats 4-5 people.
Get there early so you are able to enjoy all the sections of the zoo before they close at 5pm.
I think considering all there is to see and do there , a visit is worth the ticket price.
Kids may enjoy the water play ground as well as the activity area. I saw kids having a blast in both areas.
Yeah man, go! If you're visiting Miami or are a SoFlo resident and have never been there, check it out!

This place is at a rip off and in the middle of nowhere. The animals not so good, the place needs updating.

Long walk i recommend renting a family bicycle. Lots of empty enclosures. Trey are going through construction. No giraffe feeding, no parrots, no elephant, no hippos, or rhinos... It was dull & not very fun. My kids thought it was ok just not enough animals. The crocodile enclosure was the highlight.

Amazing zoo, wonderful staff so kind. Clean and real Conservation work, this is the zoos you should support not roadside zoos.

We love to visit a zoo and so when we were visiting Miami we decided to visit Zoo Miami. We had a fantastic time walking around the zoo and viewing a number of different animals we had never seen before like a Florida panther and bobcat. The areas were very clean and reasonable entry fee. The time of year and day was perfect as it was fairly quiet and so we could see all the exhibits. All the keepers we spoke to were very friendly and informative. Overall, a great trip and would recommend.

As native Chicagoans, we are spoiled by the two excellent zoos within our access, Lincoln Park in the city's Lincoln Park, a 10-minute walk from our home, and Brookfield in west suburban Brookfield. So my wife and I enjoy visiting other zoos around the country to make comparisons. The Miami-Dade Zoological Park and Gardens, best known as Zoo Miami, is a different gender. It is a zoological park and tropical garden and the largest zoo in Florida. Originally established in 1948 at Crandon Park in Key Biscayne, it was relocated in 1980 to 12400 Southwest 152nd Street, off the Florida Turnpike's Exit 18, the former location of the Naval Air Station Richmond, in unincorporated Miami-Dade County, surrounded by Three Lakes, South Miami Heights, Palmetto Estates and Richmond West. It is the only topical zoo in the continental United States with over 3,000 animals of around 500 species with nearly 100 exhibits on almost 750 acres. It is almost four miles around if walking on the path. The zoo's main entry includes an entryway canopy structure containing ticket booths, a gift shop and an American flamingo exhibit. There are five main exhibit sections in the zoo: Florida's Everglades, Asia, Africa, Amazon and Beyond and Australia. The Everglades exhibit features native fauna and flora found in Florida in addition to American alligators, American crocodiles, Florida panthers, North American river otters, American black bears, bald eagles, brown pelicans and spoonbills. The Asian exhibit features three Asian elephants, Bornean orangutans, Indian rhinoceros, Sumatran tigers, clouded leopards and Bactrian camels. The African loop offers giraffes, pygmy hippos, gazelle, zebras, ostriches chimpanzees, gorillas and African bush elephants. Representing the Amazon and Beyond are giant otters, jaguars, giant anteaters, Orinoco crocodiles, black howler and black-handed spider monkeys, harpy eagles, fruit bats and poison dart frogs. From Australia, there are koalas, emus, cockatiels and kangaroos. Did I forget the Wings of Asia aviary in the Asian exhibit? It features 300 rare birds of 70 species in a temperate mixed forest. At 54,000 square feet, it is the largest open air Asian aviary in the Western Hemisphere.

The animals... a lot of heat we missed is not well marked... Too hot I don't recommend visiting this time

Perfection this place is amazing to go with friends and family I’ll go back for sure because us amazing

NOT MISS this Zoo!! It is a well-planned out experience with different themes and areas. Large and very walkable. Signage is good but we managed to got lost despite maps.... Our first visit to a semi-tropical weather zoo. Tiger feeding was fun to watch. Zoo staff was nice as well.

Disappointed
There were few animals in the enclosures and many firm activities
I don’t know if it’s because it’s in season but it would be nice to stipulate it
Tickets on site are 69 dollars very expensive for what happened

Visited the 2nd Friday in December. The zoo was conveniently located off the turnpike and it wasn't crowded during our visit. We bought our tickets and decided we would walk the zoo instead of renting their safari bikes which cost $54 for a small cycle and $69 for a large cycle. The zoo also offers tram rides lasting 45 minutes and cost $7 for non-members and $6 for members. A sign said they discontinued the monorail last year because it was cost prohibitive for the zoo and it was getting difficult to get replacement parts for it. We did a lot of walking, so wear comfortable shoes if you go and decide to walk.
During our visit, we saw countless animals from multiple continents and there was a sign there that illustrated the times they were feeding some of the animals as well as zoo keepers giving speeches on various animals in their care. It was a mostly cloudy day and wasn't that hot, so the animals seemed a little more active than normal. Throughout the zoo, the most popular animals were all the iguanas running around as well as dozens of squirrels seeking snacks from visitors.
There were several places throughout the zoo where you could buy refreshments or a snack, etc. The zoo was larger than we expected and we spent about 4 1/2 hours walking around and taking photos from 1 animal exhibit to another before visiting the gift shop and leaving.

Very nice zoo! Lots of different animals and a lot of walking lol! Saw an African painted dog. Very different!

It was a very hot day, so the masks were not a plus, but I appreciate their precautions. Several exhibits were empty due to updating them but overall, it is a beautiful zoo with beautiful, well cared for animals!!

Beautiful zoo with many different species. We went on a tuk tuk tour with the children because the zoo is huge.
The kids loved it!

Great trip to the zoo. It’s a big zoo, we had few tired kids at the end but they loved it all, especially the croc tunnel at the end!

A very large zoo or animals also seems to have space. Lots of walking to do, but also lots of animals to see. We can just regret that the explanatory panels are sometimes a little short, but the main thing is said. To do with children, but you have to spend the day there.

We saw animals that we had only seen on TV. One of the best zoo we have ever been too anywhere in the country. We visited on Friday and were there from 11:30am to 4:30pm and we could not see all of it! It is A LOT of walking and would recommend renting the bikes if you want to see all or most of the zoo, especially on a warm day. I felt like we had the zoo to ourselves most of the time. Once in a while we would see someone else at the same exhibit as us. The only thing I wish they had was more signs pointing to where things were. The zoo map isnt to scale and hard to use, but this is a minor thing.

We loved every second of it! it’s of course a bit hot but they have misters everywhere around the zoo to cool you off, no complaints other than that we loved seeing all the animals!

I did not see all of it, but what I saw was very nice. Animals have large, attractive enclosures. Enjoyed the tiger, orangutan enclosures, lots of room for animals. Liked the bird exhibits as you first enter zoo. Lots of noisy flamingos provide a fun start.
Tram experience would be even better if it stopped for a few minutes at some of the exhibits, It just passes by....perhaps to cover all exhibits, but one does lose something
Clerk at gift shop spent a lot time helping me choose among various plush animals, each with a different face. Even searched the storefront and drawers to provide more choices.
To my shock, my niece had an excellent grilled sandwich and I had excellent pizza at the cafeteria/food court near the Everglades sign. Most zoos have food for purchase that is average at best. Yes, visit this zoo with or without children, it is very "happy" place. And yes, you can rent covered go carts and wheel yourself around. I did not do that but passed by the station soon after entering.

Disappointed because my tickets were cancelled before the assigned day and nobody tells me nothing in advance. Who’s going to respond trip advisor or zoo Miami

It was pouring rain which might be bad for people but the number of animals out was fantastic!!! It’s a well laid out zoo tons to see. Top zoo for sure from a family of zoo goers!!!

Very good place to spend the afternoon in the company of friends and family, The rent of the bikes is very high from rest everything very well worth coming

I wish that zoos were not something we "need" now. Zoos used to be merely for entertainment and that focus certainly was of no benefit to the animals involved. Today, good zoos are expected to be "keepers" of the species and educators of the public.
Most of the habitats at this zoo are labeled with extinction warnings. So many of the animals are endangered that only a few in zoos remain. I am not convinced that saving the last few will make any difference if there is no habitat remaining to release them into, but with the education that a zoo like this can provide maybe one child seeing an endangered animal today will be able to help to conserve the habitat needed to allow a reintroduction of a species to a wild space.
Visitors can spend a day at the zoo just walking. Double and quad pedal cycles are available for rent to couples and families. The monorail was not running while I visited.
I must have come on just the right day as the zoo was relatively empty. I noted the massive parking areas that had no cars as well as the number of unrented cycles.
I would have not been able to enjoy the up close experience that this zoo provides if hordes of people were in front of me.
Habitats are on islands surrounded by moats. Most of the animals were visible and active. Fencing is low because the moat is the barrier.
There are a number of keeper talks throughout the day and opportunities to feed the animals. The latter has an extra charge.
The zoo is well landscaped and generally handicapped accessible. Most of the main trail is paved and flat. Beware of careless cyclists though. Benches are provided as well as picnic tables, but you are not supposed to bring your own food. There are a number of restaurants.
There is no charge for parking.

There is enough space to walk with your family or even you can get a metro rail inside the zoo there are amazing animals that will never know if not is there

This is a hidden gem that most ignore or just skip thinking it is a zoo for kids or teens. If you're into nature and Everglades, this brings them to you without the Mosquitoes and Pythons! The sections and animals are strategically placed throughout the park in over 700+ acres. They have a train and mini snack stands throughout the park to make sure you stay hydrated and interested to visit all the places. A tip we've received was start at the Asian continent side and just stick on the right hand side until you make a full circle through Australia and return at the intersection of USA - Florida and Asia. Spent a little over 3.5 hours here to visit everything.

I loved the tour we took to see the animals as the walks are wide and full of trees and other plants. The area is organized by the different continents which seems a great success, although the signage was not clear to me. In the end I realized we missed an almost complete section. In front of the space of each animal there is an explanatory sign, which makes the activity very didactic.
Along the way there are sales kiosks and this is a great advantage, especially if you are hanging out with children.

Miami Zoo is listed as the largest zoo in Florida. It has massive parking lots. We visited on a Saturday in January. We arrived just after opening and the zoo was very quiet with not a lot of people. We did a lot of walking but about half of the outdoor enclosures were empty. Often we walked a couple of hundred yards from one animal enclosure to another enclosure that had animals in it. We did see a tiger, elephants, rhino, giraffes and a zebra. Seemed like too many single animals.

Zoo Miami is not worth it at all. Mostly old, sickly animals. Only 1 animal per exhibit for much of the "zoo." Hard to navigate and badly marked, as far as way finding. Overpriced. Tampa's Busch Gardens is light years ahead of this place.
No printed map, so you have to take a picture of the map display when you walk in. Both inconvenient and very hard to read the map on a cell phone in the bright Florida sun (They should have thought of that!).
Overall, didn't see many animals and was very disappointed. Choose another zoo and pass by this one and save your money, if you're a zoo lover like we are.

Great place to walk with kids. Relax and beautiful. The staff is very nice and flexible.
Had a great time!

A very nicely designed zoo. The zoo occupies a very large area. It took us about 3.5h to 4h to complete the safari tour. But also visited and looked at all enclosures and buildings. The enclosures are in a very nice condition and for the animals also very extensively designed - may sometimes have the disadvantage that you can not see an animal at that time. It's just like that;-)
Otherwise, the paths are very well laid out and also nice to run. Absolute recommendation for the zoo.

Horrible Zoo, treat nocturnal animals sensitive to sound and touch like a household pet and are keeping a kiwi in conditions that will kill it soon

This zoo is extremely disappointing! We went on a Friday and the boats on the lake were not even open or running. Way too many animal exhibits were "off exhibit" or listed as "nobody home". The price is ridiculous for the small amount you even do get to see. Heck, the gift shop didnt even have magnets! For a zoo that claims to be one of the best in the country, this zoo was a total joke! If you want a REAL zoo, go and visit Fort Worth Zoo or the San Diego Wild Animal Park. Do not visit this pathetic and overpriced zoo!

We visited the zoo with a reciprocal membership ticket. Lines were short and fast. We attended on a weekday so it wasn't crowded at all. To participate in the Virtual Egg Hunt, you need to download a third-party app called Eventzee, enter the ZooMiami code, then scan each QR coded egg as you find them along your journey. Each egg comes with a hint which the kids enjoyed deciphering (even though the eggs are in order as you walk along the path). My only complaint was that the game says one treat per device but the attendant at the end of the game refused to honor that and said it was one per family. The zoo is beautiful and the habitats are natural-looking. You can rend surrey bikes to pedal around. They had pedal boats but no one was attending it that day. Lots of fun photo-ops.
16 year old - Enjoyed the photo ops
11 year old - Enjoyed the egg hunt
6 year old - Liked the animals; got bored with the egg hunt

Wow! Zoo Miami exceeded my expectations over and over. We easily spent 5 hours strolling and admiring. We saw the tiger, elephants, chimps, girillas, lions, otters and so much more. I was enthralled by the trees and plants all through the zoo. I saw a Rainbow Eucalyptus, Poinciana and scores of others. Hydration stations to fill your water bottle are nicely spaced so you can stay hydrated. We also had Pina Colada Icees to help cool down. Almost all of the animals were not only visible, but active as well. TIP: Check out the flamingo mud nests. You will see some sitting on them at the entrance..

I went there recently! I saw a pleasant botanical garden, well maintained, but very few animals... That's why I came there... Perhaps they were hiding! Half of the enclosures are empty... In short, the entry price of $24 is not worth it!!!

Was amazing to see all the beautiful animals. Can’t wait to come back with my two kids and experience with them! I do recommend good walking shoes and devoting at least 3-4 hours of your day to be able to enjoy everything!

We didn't know what to do to kill time so we went here.
It was a good walk around. I found it more interesting than the one in Toronto.
I like that you had options of renting bicycles, riding scooters, renting boats (wasn't open), or taking the train (wasn't open)
Saw a lot of rare species.

Very friendly and polite staff. Clean place with a lot to do and see . Great place but everything is extra . Food , drinks , train , bicycle to get around , you can’t bring your drinks or food.

My family and I visited Zoo Miami last weekend for the first time and had a wonderful experience. The park is well cared for and clean. We appreciate the consideration taken for small kids with the playground and splash area, my children loved both of these sections. The temperature was quite hot but we cooled down with the mist sprayers and next time we will definitely book a bicycle. My only criticism was for entrance safety, I expected a security check to check our bag but we never saw one. With the recent events around the country I would a expect a greater concern for safety protocol in regards to checking for weapons. Overall great experience, definitely recommend booking a bicycle (they are shaded) and bringing a refillable bottle of water for each person visiting, if you have small children I recommend a quick dry shirt to allow them to quickly dry off after the splash pad or a bathing suit like many of the kids had on. Looking forward to our next visit.

Take the VIP golf cart tour. Well worth it. Animal encounters also well run. Staff all very friendly. The rhino encounter was one of the best zoo encounters we have done in the US. Book in advance! Zoo food is not great. Think high school cafeteria. Would be nice if they had something more upscale for eating. All staff were very helpful and friendly.

Spent the day at the Miami zoo on Dec 8th. Saw a lot of animals because it was a very mild day and they were out and about. Bring your walking shoes because it's a large park with a lot of walking to see everything!

This experience can be improved by adding animals! This was very disappointing! There's many exhibits, but no animals. Even the Monorail has been discontinued !!!!

Everything signposted, easy to understand where to go. You can rent a tricycle for the convenience of children.
In relation to the food, it is delicious, you just have to be careful because there are some birds and squirrels hanging around waiting for some distracted diner.

We always love coming here with friends and family, an excellent way to bond socially during COVID. We love our MEMBERSHIP!

Arrived early before hotel check in. Spent the day at the Miami Zoo. Great time. They had food, beer, wine, and mixed drinks. Not something I expected to find at the zoo, but nice surprise. Prices were high for alcohol drinks, but that probably keeps people from drinking too much. Animal exhibits we’re awesome. Seems like every animal had room to roam around. Extremely well kept and clean. Very easy to get around. Well worth visiting for a day.

Miami Zoo was an experience that is great alone, as a couple or a family. The vast array of species that are offered was both inspiring and exciting to see and experience. I did not expect the animals and species that were there. I was very impressed with the cleanliness and employees professionalism and knowledge

One of the best zoos we have visited (and cleanest). The animals have a great amount of space to live in, they seem to be very well cared for and staff are helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. The best aviary we have ever seen. It is a huge zoo and you will be doing a lot of walking but they do have options such as ride ons if you want to see the zoo like that.

This is a nice zoo to visit for a day. Allow yourself 3 to 4 hours. During our visit many of the animals were off display and others were no shows. The zoo is clean and there is a lot of shade available for sunny hot days. I wish they had more places for people to stop and rest for awhile.

A Zoo well worth visiting with a great variety of animals in natural sittings. There is plenty of walking. A tram ($5.00 cost per person) makes several stops, with descriptive narration, monorail was out of service, and is well worth using. There are also four wheel bicycles for rent. It truly ranks in the top 5% of zoos in the world. You will not be disappointed. We visited on a week day and it was not crowded. Parking is free. The only issue was the long line to purchase entry tickets. Life size dinosaurs of all different varieties that moved and "spoke" were on display in many parts of the zoo for a limited time and were very realistic.

We had a most wonderful time at this zoo! I took my 10 year old grandson and our day was full of adventure and fun. At this point, there are no optional upgrades so we were disappointed by that. I was very impressed with the amount of room each animal has compared to every other zoo I have ever seen. The tunnel that the photo here shows is a very good representation of that part of the zoo, just know that most adults will not fit under there but it was great for kids. This zoo has many animals we were not familiar with so I was very happy to see so many new things. Some of the staff at the zoo were not very helpful or pleasant though when we were speaking to them and struggled with their English in helping us. Several of the food venues were closed so that was very disappointing. But aside from that, it is a great zoo!

This was an awesome zoo. To be honest, we didn’t come in with much hope. It had been raining on and off all day. But we went anyway hoping to fill an otherwise unplanned afternoon with some walking. There were maybe two dozen cars in the parking lot. We had the place practically to ourselves! The cashier even exclaimed, “no refunds.” We saw most of the animals! We were very impressed with the feeding, especially the rhinos. They has so many cool things for kids, including a slide that goes into the otter area and a little tunnel to see into the bears den. If I had children, I’d definitely come here! We walked the whole time. It probably would have been better to rent the bike. After 17,000 + steps, we were exhausted! And we didn’t even make it to the Amazon! Great value and well worth the trip!

Lots of animals around, but be prepared to walk. At first I thought it was more for kids than adults. However once we started walking we could see both kids and adults will enjoy.

Very nice size zoo with alot of animals you do not normally see in zoo's up north. Family friendly..

Beautiful zoo. Very clean. We didn’t see many zoo keepers to answer questions. Getting interactive with animals is offered but at a fee and the lines were extremely long.
Had lunch at the restaurant near the main gate, pricy but the sandwiches were yummy! Enjoyed our day at the zoo and would go back if I’m Miami again. 9 year old son really enjoyed it. Animal areas all very clean and looked well maintained

Really nice zoo, however there were quite a few enclosures (seemed to be more than just timing) that were empty or lacked the animals. We saw many animals we had not seen before.

We visited yesterday while visiting from out of town. We are extremely active and spent approximately three hours walking the entire breadth of the zoo. By the time we were halfway through, we were struck by how many empty enclosures there were. Of those that were occupied, many had only one solitary animal. We were very dismayed.

We've visited this zoo maybe 20 times but haven't been here for two years. We always rent the safari cycle but now you will need to rent via your phone when you are there (or on weekends, rent sooner). The prices are double what they were when we used to go so be prepared. Today we went and when I rented from home, the only timeslot was 12-3, even though we knew no one would be there. The place was empty and we got there at 1, I thought they would graciously give us the cycle for three hours but no! lol I asked since the zoo was empty and they weren't busy, they grudgingly added on a half hour instead of just moving the reservation from 1-4. okay. Anyway, we love this zoo, the animals seem well cared for. Be prepared for lack of beverage options in half the park, particularly during the week. The exhibits also seemed to have far fewer animals than they have had before and some exhibit areas looked abandoned (otters?) although there was no sign saying they were off exhibit. We still liked the Everglades boat ride and the amazing animals we saw. We knew the monorail was permanently closed but stil, that was a favorite activity. The grounds could use some upkeep- just compared to how it used to be there. Enjoy your visit!

Had obtained a free pass from the library and decided to explore the afternoon even though it was incredibly hot! They have so many splash zones that spray a mist of cool water and definitely helps with the heat. A lot of shade and benches/tables available for everyone to use. Admission is $23 for adults and the rides to pedal around the zoo are $53 for one that fits 2 adults and 2 small children in front OR $69 for a 4 adult, 2 small children bike. It was sad to see a lot of animals being sad or In a corner due to being trapped in a small space. Some exhibits seemed empty. Giraffe feedings are $5 for a snack and $11 for a bucket!

When I visited the Miami Zoo, I had a great experience. I was surprised by the size, it's much larger than most of the zoos I've visited, so bring comfy footwear, and a stroller if little ones are visiting with you, there is a lot of walking. Also if you are going in the hotter months, bring sunscreen and water bottles, South Florida's heat and humidity is unforgiving. The entrance fee is pretty well priced, especially for a zoo this big, it cost less than $25 per adult. The zoo has a large collection of rare and endangered species, from Asia, Africa, South America, Australia, and Florida. The zoo has many staples such as lions, rhinos, hippos, alligators, monkeys, zebras etc. Some the more endangered animals is are the Florida panther, Cuban crocodile, Sumatran tiger, and many more, it's the only I've been to that has the coqui, a tree frog native to Puerto Rico. The animal exhibits and enclosures are very well kept, and many are very immersive, such as the crocodile enclosure has a tunnel that goes under the water, giving a view from the bottom of the enclosure. The zoo seems to have a monorail train but it wasn't running when I visited, but there are other rides. I was really pleased to see how well kept the zoo was, pathways were clear, and the bathrooms were clean. Like most zoos it has restaurants, food and drinks shacks, and a few gift shops. My favorite section of the zoo was the Florida section, some of the best habitats can be found there.
Overall, if you like animals or have little ones, a day at the Miami Zoo will be great, it's not too expensive, lots too see, and just a relaxing place. A real hidden gem in the Miami area.

Pros - the Zoo is beautifully maintained, and would be fun if you have the time. I wanted to take my 5-year old nephew and, for the short time we were there, he loved it. We were running late, and weren't able to get there until around 3:30, and rented a cycle because my elderly mother-in-law wouldn't have been able to walk the whole park. I was very concerned about trying to see as much of the part as possible in a short time, but we couldn't get far. At about 7 minutes to 5 (when the park closes), an employee told us shortly, "Park's Closed. Make your way to the exit - it's that way, and pointed. " Another couple wanted to take a picture and the lady put her hand on the employee's cart and he yelled at her, saying "don't touch!" in English and Spanish. It just gave me a bad vibe, especially after spending close to $200 on tickets for 5 adults and a child (granted, it's not the park's fault we ended up running late). Just got a bad vibe from that - I probably won't go back there.

After getting into Miami last week and having a couple of open hours we decided to get some zoo tickets as we are avid animal fans. The Miami Zoo was beautiful. It was one of the first zoo’s we visited and didn’t feel bad for any of the animals. They all seemed to have more than ample room in their exhibit and seemed well taken care of. The zoo itself is super clean and has loads of food and drinks around the grounds. We definitely enjoyed our day here and would recommend to others visiting.

Too 3 Zoo’s in USA. We were delighted by the exhibits, reasonable cost, and easy to navigate signage given the tremendous size of the place. The only other zoos that rival this are DC and San Diego. We only had two hours which is not enough time. I think 3 hours assuming no lunch break is about right. You will get your 10,000 steps in but they did have peddle bikes and I think golf carts for rent. The only thing that would have made my wife and I happier would be grandchildren but we need to be a bit more patient with our kids on that front, lol!

This is the BEST ZOO my husband and I have ever visited! We are vegans and love communing with animals. The animals here have plenty of room to roam, fly, run and swing. They seemed happy and well nourished.
I lived in Africa for several years and have traveled all over the world. I saw animals here that I never heard of!
We went in August - doesn't get hotter! The zoo provides cooling mist stations throughout.
We spent 4 hours there and did not see everything! Look forward to another visit sometime.

There's animals everywhere and always something to do this zoo is very enjoyable need all day to experience it was very busy but had a great time

Great zoo loved feeding the giraffes and parrots. It is huge prepare to do a lot of walking and make sure you have a stroller for little kids. The misters were appreciated it was hot during our visit. We skipped the big cats because the kids were done so choose what you want to see if your kids are little you probably won’t see it all. Only suggestion is do color trails on the ground for each section so you don’t miss things. It would help with the flow of guests

We ordered starters, chipirones, fried pixin (rape), and a seafood paella, for 3 , we ate 5, abundant, everything perfect, the taste of fish and seafood amazing. Super recommended, unbeatable Service. We will come back and recommend it.

The zoo is spacious and the displays are excellent. We met lots of helpful staff and volunteers who were all eager to tell us more about the animals. The water and misters were essential in the heat.
The only downside was the customer service at lunch. One staff member in Nourish (11.45am on a Monday and so super quiet) was incredibly rude and ignored us for 5 minutes when we were trying to pay for our food because he was too busy on his phone. He then could hardly be bothered to talk to us when he finally served us. We weren’t impressed!

I had a wonderful experience at the Miami Zoo! The place is beautifully maintained with spacious, natural habitats for the animals, making it feel like a true wildlife adventure. The variety of animals was amazing — from playful monkeys to majestic lions — and each exhibit was educational and engaging. I especially loved the tropical landscaping and shaded walking paths, which made exploring comfortable even on a warm day. The staff was friendly, and the facilities were clean and well-organized. It’s a perfect destination for families, nature lovers, or anyone looking for a fun and memorable day out

Web arrived around 11 am to find many areas closed or under construction. The signs were not very clear so make sure to grab a map.

Wonderful zoo but not handicap friendly in terms of renting a wheelchair. Long walk from parking lot to entrance and then a long walk to wheelchair rental kiosk. A person who needed a wheelchair and was alone would not be able to get to the wheelchair rental place. Only way to rent a wheelchair was online which leaves your credit card info exposed to a non-secure network when you are traveling. Staff at ticket office was not very friendly.

We did the morning behind the scenes tour. We saw/fed/touched rhinos, giraffes, and a Kiwi bird. We also went behind the scenes at the the sunken forest, which while fun, was the least hands on, and not quite as fun as the other stops.
The tour guides and keepers we interacted with were very friendly and helpful. The tour also included golf cart transportation and viewing of some exhibits. For a zoo as big as the Miami zoo (300-400 acres developed) the golf cart was very convenient. I next time I’m in Miami I will return and do another tour.

Loved it, Excellent family experience...........................................................................................................................................................You can't make writing a long review mandatory if you don't want to. Tripadvisor, read the review.

Excellent zoo. We arrived close to opening time and bought the tickets online and it was no-delay walk-in. The zoo has lots of animals and is quite large. It was good fun to spend 4-5 hours at the zoo. Parking is free and it made the trip that much more convenient.
We love zoos and even with adult kids we frequent them often. The best part of the zoo is the excellent plants and tropical foliage. It was a prefect mild sunny day with nice breeze and the place was both not crowded and the few visitors were well spread out to make it a perfectly safe venue.
Whats not to like - it is big and many areas are closed or not occupied by animals yet. We also didn't come across knowledgeable zookeepers or volunteers that provide tid-bits of knowledge/stories to make the visit engaging nor were there any interactive displays/shows. That may be a temporary constraint but it did take away from the usual experience of visiting a zoo.
However, none of that should prevent you from visiting this excellent zoo when in the miami-kendall area. Can't wait for weather to get better in Chicago to visit Brookfield and Lincoln Park zoos.

Immense place undoubtedly, but everything was shabby and monotonous, the exaggerated price to see animals under the sun that suffered from the heat .. see polar bear my vote is zero ...

My husband and I love animals and decided to visit Zoo Miami during our anniversary trip. We had a great time.
Zoo staff and volunteers were friendly and we enjoyed the atmosphere of the zoo and it’s exhibits. We got to feed the giraffes and parrots at a reasonable price! We also got to get up close and personal with bears and alligators using the tunnels areas within their exhibits.
The meals and drinks (including alcoholic beverages) were pretty good too!
We would recommend visiting Zoo Miami if you are animal lovers like us! There is fun to be had for individuals, couples, and families.

This was a super fun zoo!! We arrived at 10:15 on a Tuesday and it was pleasantly empty. It’s definitely a huge zoo and has a lot of things to see but it’s all awesome. We were there for around 3 hours and a half and we still didn’t see it all! The food was pretty good especially for a zoo. Definitely recommend if you are in the area!!

This zoo is huge and the animal enclosures are a really good size. We went during the week and there were hardly any people there. If you can afford to rent a bike, I would highly suggest doing that. We were there almost three hours and saw more than half but not everything. We started just walking by things unless it was an animal we really wanted to see. Plan to spend at least half the day there, especially if you have little ones. We ate lunch there and the prices weren’t too bad but lots of birds in seating area so you have to protect your food. They had water refill stations all over so bring a reusable bottle and mist stations that help stay cool. Almost all of the animals were out and easy to see.

Nice place but need to be hydrated. If you are going with family and kids pls make sure that you rent the 5-seater bicycle, it's worth. Our tour started only after we got the bicycle at 2pm until then with scorching sun and kids' impatience was troubling the trip. Bicycle with canopy made it worth, we were able to see many places by staying in the bike - even no need to get down.

I visited with my two kids (ages 4 and 2) and they loved it! the grounds are very well kept and they have so many animals to see. My suggestion is to take a stroller or wagon if you have a little one as they will get tired easily. You have to walk A LOT! We spent a whole afternoon there and maybe got to see 25% of the zoo. We will be back to see the rest. You can bring your own snacks but they have a lot snack stations and resting places along the way! I would recommend as well going on a weekday as you will encounter less people.

Good place for kids and adults. Monday $15 price is a good deal
Would suggest signs on the ground for directions to the various sections

We visited the zoo on a Sunday morning when there still were no crowds and we spent several hours walking around and looking at the animals. We got the impression that the zoo is very well maintained.

For a place that is about wildlife conservation, they are doing a BAD job of protecting native wildlife. The Bonneted Bat only lives in south Florida and the Zoo wants to add a water park where the bats are living.POOR JOB OF CONSERVATION

My children had a great time at the Miami Zoo. During our trip to Florida, we were looking for activities for the kids. We purchased our tickets online, and the park was not as crowded, which was ideal for our visit. We attempted to rent a bicycle to ride around the park, but they were all booked for the entire two hours. We chose to take the tram ride around the Zoo. The ride lasted 45-50 minutes, with the conductor explaining each animal that passed by. The ride took us behind the park for the first 5 minutes, so there wasn't much to see. It was a pleasant experience for the children, and it beats walking. Other activities that can be done while walking through the water park and feeding the giraffes include viewing the animals in an enclosed rock dome. There is an activity area in an enclosed building at the zoo's entrance that was a fun experience for the kids with virtual butterflies, a maze, and other activities.

We purchased the VIP Zoo Tour in which you are guided through the zoo in a golf cart with a tour guide. Our guide was Alexander. The VIP tour experience was GREAT! The golf cart was large and comfy (there were 2 of us plus our guide) and Alexander was a phenomenal guide! His knowledge of not only every animal in the zoo, but also the zoo itself, is VERY impressive. He offered infomation at each animal exhibit that we stopped at and he made sure to give us enough time to take pics and/or ask questions. The VIP tour was 2 hours and we covered a lot of the zoo in that time. The zoo itself is beautiful, clean, and the exhibits are well maintained (and I have visited The National Zoo in DC, the Bronx Zoo in NY, and the Philadelphia Zoo in the past so I can can compare them). The animal exhibits are large and most animals were in view during our tour. The tiger was very active during our visit and the river otters were very entertaining with their antics! Lunch was very good at Oasis Grill and all zoo employees that we encountered were very friendly. We will definitely return for another visit. The zoo is very large, so the VIP tour was a great way to see many exhibits!! We were definitely treated like VIPs during our tour!!

What a rip off! It's very far from Miami. The animals not so good.....hot and rainy even in October.

We had a number of hours until our flight left at 9:00 pm so we decided to go to the zoo. It was a great zoo. You walk in the front gate and see flamingos. That's a nice way to start your day. They didn't have any trams running which was too bad.

The splashpad is the perfect way for little ones to cool down! The park is quite large so plan for a lot of walking and the kids to get tired.

We came here because we love to visit zoos wherever we go around the country. We have a zoo pass in our hometown of Columbus, Ohio, and it enables us to get 50% off at other zoos and Zoo Miami is one of them. First off, the good things. What many people complain about, I thought was a great thing. This might be the biggest zoo we have ever visited (and we have been to San Diego and Cincinnati). The exhibits were really spaced out giving more room for the animals in each section. There was a pretty good variety of animals as well. Our favorites were the massive bird aviary in Asia, the Tiger section, and the giraffes. The zoo had a large array of birds, snakes and frogs. One of my only negatives is that they really seemed to be missing a really big ticket item that would be considered really awesome. They also could have more primates and more of the animals in each section. Some enclosures were huge but only had one animal in it. Otherwise we all had a great time.

A must if visiting Miami. It's not the first, second, or third thing you think of when visiting Miami but it should be up there. The zoo is very large and well kept up. It's over 750 acres compared to the San Diego Zoo at 100 acres. The walking paths are wide with lots of little areas to stop and rest. There are multiple playgrounds and eating areas. Our favorite area (despite being Florida natives) was actually the Everglades area. Seeing animals I see all the time I thought would be no big deal, bit was it arranged so nicely with little cool things (like a clear slide in the otter area). We spent 4.5hrs and missed all of the Asia section and none of the zoo keeper talks. Expect to spend all day here and highly consider the bike rentals. The only downside of the zoo is it's so far from Miami downtown or other more northern parts of MDC, but worth the trip, especially with a little one!

Pros: Parking was close to the entrance. The layout of the park was simple and easy, had no problems getting around.
Cons: Could have used some more snack stops further out from the main food area.

Beautiful place to spend the afternoon! Great landscaping and visual effects make you feel like animals in their natural habitats. Loved seeing silverback gorilla , tiger , giraffes and many types of antelope. Only missed seeing elephants not out and no aquarium which was odd being in MiaMi? Overall very good !

Very good experience, it's a must in Miami especially with children. Livyng the experience giving food to the giraffes or "riding" with the camels is an "obligatory" stop in the zoo.
The giant turttles or the elefants or the Amazon area ar other of the important parts of the zoo.
If you're going with an older person or small kids then you should rent the bikes for 2 or 4 persons in order of don't get tired or knowing faster the zoo.
The Amazon forest or the part of the Camels are a "little" hidden so everyone should pay attention of where this atractions are.
The people in the zoo are very nice with the touristsand they can chow you anything.

I guess the zoo was so hyped up, I expected some magical zoo. Compared to other zoos, this one was definitely solid; however I wouldn’t go out of my way to come back. We rented the bikes which was a great idea with the little ones. Even so, after 2 hours of cycling, we were tired!!! The animals definitely look very well cared for.

This is a vey large, well laid out zoo with lots of animals in pretty large enclosures. Unfortunately, quite a few of the animals were absent or hiding (or on vacation?), but the majority were there. You can rent family bike carts if you want to save all the walking it requires. We allotted three hours before our flight home, but found ourselves rushing through the final continent, so give yourselves four hours if doing it all on foot. We also saw the critter show which was cute and showcased some birds and a serval.

Not an espeical zoo fan, but I had a free day and enjoyed walking the entire facility. Monorail is (one of the many) optional extras; not necessary - and probably a time waster - if you are in even half decent shape. Wide variety of animals, covering most of the 'must see' types. Stumbled across keeper feeding the African elephants, giving a presentation. Watched the giraffe and rhino feed - visitor participation, but again more $$, enough just to watch those who did. My own best personal interaction was with a duck of some sort that seemed intent on challenging me to a bill fight; hopefully it was as amused as I was. The animatron dinos seemed to interest - and slightly frighten - some of the small kids. Food prices are insane. Nice landscaping, clean restrooms, clear paths and plenty of water & cool mist stations. You can even smoke on grounds in deisgnated areas which surprised me, although I don't begrudge giving people the opportunity since a full rotation will take 4 hours or so - what the heck. Even the base admission isn't cheap - but if you explore everything (3+ miles of path, exhibits placed pretty much continuously) you will get your money's worth.
Disappointed
After paying $50 dollars to get in they will not let you take in your own bike. I’m 68 years old walking for three hours is hard I live on social security and don’t have $40 more dollars to rent there bike. They are just plan to money hungry very disappointed.
