Feilai Stone

The Flying Stone is located in the northwest of Guangmingding, nearly 1 km away. The western end of the Tianhai Pingtian Rock is a nearly rectangular column standing on the bedrock platform of the peak, heading southeast, 7 meters wide, 1.5-2.5 meters thick, 15 meters high, and weighing about 544 tons. The shape is strange and amazing! What is even more surprising is that such a huge stone is erected on a flat rock about 12-15 meters long and 8-10 meters wide! The contact surface between the two rocks is very small, and the upper stone seems to have flown from the sky, so it is named "Flying Stone". Geologists believe that the wonder of the Flying Stone was formed during the geological change process, which can be said to be made by heaven and earth. I saw a huge rock standing on a flat rock. The contact area between the two rocks was very small. The upper rock seemed to have flown from the sky. It looked shaky but it always stood firm. It was a real spectacle!

We didn't have that thought at the time, but because the platform was limited and there were other people watching, we did touch the flying stone when we passed by it, so it was a lucky coincidence.

It is really spectacular when viewed up close. I could not imagine it at all when I looked at it up close, until later when I went to the Guanshi Pavilion to rest, I suddenly found that the flying stone in the distance looked very familiar. Since I had just rewatched the 1987 version of Dream of Red Mansions last year, I remembered it all at once. It was the stone at the beginning, so I quickly took a photo as a souvenir.

From Guanshiting to Baieling, you can see flying stones many times along the way. I am very touched every time I see them. Scenes from A Dream of Red Mansions appear in my mind from time to time, and I even start to hum the song "In vain I gaze at you" unconsciously.

When we passed the Stone Viewing Pavilion, a gust of wind blew by, and a stone suddenly appeared in the clouds on our right. It was very magical. I quickly asked my companions to take a look. When I took out my mobile phone to take a picture, another gust of wind blew by, and I couldn’t see anything. In less than 30 seconds, we saw the magical moment but didn’t take a picture of it. It was a lucky but regrettable point in our trip to Huangshan.

I came back to look for it the next day and realized that the stone was the Flying Stone. Without the clouds and mist, it would not have been as magical as I had seen at first glance. The day before, when I saw the Flying Stone, the big stone underneath was blocked by clouds. The fairy stone floating in the clouds was particularly magical. The next day, I saw clouds and mist around it, and it was still magical.

Then one morning the clouds dispersed and I looked at the Flying Stone from afar again. The spiritual energy was completely gone and it was just a piece of stubborn stone.

Going down from Guangmingding for about 20 minutes, you can see Feilaishi. The stubborn stone (immortal stone) in the famous drama "Dream of Red Mansions" is this huge stone, which is 12 meters high and weighs 600 tons. The bottom and the peak are suddenly separated, as if it flew from the sky, so it is named Feilaishi!

The second symbol of Huangshan - Flying Stone! You must touch this fairy stone. The first touch brings official position, the second touch brings wealth, the third touch brings happiness, and the fourth touch brings peach blossoms.

One of my favorite scenic spots in Huangshan is the continuity of the longitudinal cracks between the Feilai Stone and the rock mass below it, indicating that they were originally one. The water in the cracks above the rock mass freezes at low temperatures, and the volume increases, causing the cracks to deepen and widen. When the temperature rises, the ice melts into water and further penetrates into the rock along the enlarged cracks. This repetitive ice splitting action causes the surrounding rocks to gradually peel off, leaving only a stone pillar. This is also the main cause of the stone pillar landscapes such as the magpie climbing the plum tree and the dream pen producing flowers.

The formation of the Flying Stone is related to crustal movement and weathering over the years. There are many beautiful legends surrounding the Flying Stone. There are Flying Stones in many places, but the Flying Stone in Huangshan is the filming location of the "The Stone of Patching the Sky" in Dream of Red Mansions, so it is also a must-see place for tourists to Huangshan.

On the way from Paiyun Tower to Guangmingding in Huangshan, the huge rock looks like it will fall down at any time. People standing below it feel a bit oppressive. The old version of Dream of Red Mansions chose this place as the cover, but the shooting angle is different. The cover is shot from the front of the rock to avoid the guardrail. The cliff below Feilai Rock is the West Sea Grand Canyon.

The second picture was taken after watching the sunrise from Guangmingding and looking at the sea of clouds. This place should be not far from Feilaishi, but I didn’t climb the peak of Feilaishi. When I was going down the mountain, I looked at Feilaishi from a distance, and the photos I took were able to capture the whole picture~ The stubborn stone in the 1987 TV series "Dream of Red Mansions" was the Feilaishi of Huangshan Mountain.

The flying stone hanging on the cliff is shaky, but it has held on for thousands of years; the most fascinating thing is that you can find the lonely flying stone from every angle. It was my second time climbing Mount Huangshan, and I got to see the Flying Stone from all angles, near and far, and it is indeed one of the wonders of Mount Huangshan.

One was the spiritual jade that Jia Baoyu had in his mouth when he was born in Dream of Red Mansions, and the other fell on Huangshan, which is now the Flying Stone of Huangshan.

Flying Stone. Since we watched the sunset and then went to see the Flying Stone, it was already night so we couldn't see it clearly. The correct route should be to see the Flying Stone first and then go to Guangmingding to watch the sunset.

It is really strange to see Feilai Stone from a distance. There is a viewing platform on the west side of the stone. Several hikers are already sitting on the cliff waiting for the sunset. To the west is the Xihai Grand Canyon and Danxia Peak that we just walked through. Looking at the first and second rings that we just walked down, it is like a road to heaven. The sun is hiding in the clouds in the west. The thin clouds have been dyed red. Everyone is waiting quietly. There is a thick layer of clouds on the top of the mountain.

Is the pine tree on the Lingshi the incarnation of Lin Daiyu? The stone and the pine tree are in a painting. Looking back at the flying stone in the morning, it is like a hero roaring to the sky.

After two steps and three climbs, we encouraged each other and finally saw the silhouette of the Flying Stone! Although I could only look at it from a distance for the time being, it was enough to make me excited and forget my fatigue. A bare big stone was inserted vertically on the top of the cliff without any support. The "Flying Stone" was really a very appropriate description. It was a coincidence that there was really no mountain around the Flying Stone that was higher than it to steal its limelight. It was the only one that was superior and looked down upon the mountains. I was lucky. The mountain I was on was a great place to look far away. Although the wind on the mountain was very strong at that time, the fog had not been blown here yet, so the Flying Stone was still clearly visible. However, the fog soon slowly dispersed in the mountains, a thin layer, moving lightly along the wind direction, and the Flying Stone was looming, like a fairyland. The pine trees next to it also looked more vigorous and upright in the fog. When the wind passed, it seemed to set off layers of green ripples. If it weren't for the coldness on the top of the mountain, if it weren't for the increasing fog, I could really stay here for a while. After leaving the viewing hill, we took a close look at the Flying Stone. The huge stone was like a shuttle, slightly tilted and inserted into the hilltop. There were too many tourists under the stone, and judging by the height and distance, plus the thick fog, the view was not good. So we just took a symbolic look and left.

There is more than one flying stone on Huangshan Mountain. You can go up to the platform above, but it is a bit scary.
