Feilai Stone, also known as Feilai Peak and Xiantao Peak, is located between Guangmingding and Paiyun Pavilion and is one of the landmarks of Huangshan Mountain.
The Flying Stone is 12 meters high and weighs 600 tons. The contact area between its bottom and the rocks is very small. It looks shaky but it still stands tall. It is very magical.
The 1987 CCTV version of "Dream of Red Mansions" was filmed here, and the stubborn stone in the play was the Flying Stone.

I saw a huge rock standing on a flat rock. The contact area between the two rocks was very small. The upper rock seemed to have flown from the sky. It looked shaky but it always stood firm. It was a real spectacle!
Climb up the platform and get in close contact with the flying stone. You will find the words "Hua Yi" engraved on it. You can overlook the West Sea from here. It is said that this is the magic stone left by Nuwa when she repaired the sky. If you touch it, you will have good luck.
We didn't have that thought at the time, but because the platform was limited and there were other people watching, we did touch the flying stone when we passed by it, so it was a lucky coincidence.
It is really spectacular when viewed up close. I could not imagine it at all when I looked at it up close, until later when I went to the Guanshi Pavilion to rest, I suddenly found that the flying stone in the distance looked very familiar. Since I had just rewatched the 1987 version of Dream of Red Mansions last year, I remembered it all at once. It was the stone at the beginning, so I quickly took a photo as a souvenir.
From Guanshiting to Baieling, you can see flying stones many times along the way. I am very touched every time I see them. Scenes from A Dream of Red Mansions appear in my mind from time to time, and I even start to hum the song "In vain I gaze at you" unconsciously.
When we passed the Stone Viewing Pavilion, a gust of wind blew by, and a stone suddenly appeared in the clouds on our right. It was very magical. I quickly asked my companions to take a look. When I took out my mobile phone to take a picture, another gust of wind blew by, and I couldn’t see anything. In less than 30 seconds, we saw the magical moment but didn’t take a picture of it. It was a lucky but regrettable point in our trip to Huangshan.
I came back to look for it the next day and realized that the stone was the Flying Stone. Without the clouds and mist, it would not have been as magical as I had seen at first glance. The day before, when I saw the Flying Stone, the big stone underneath was blocked by clouds. The fairy stone floating in the clouds was particularly magical. The next day, I saw clouds and mist around it, and it was still magical.
Then one morning the clouds dispersed and I looked at the Flying Stone from afar again. The spiritual energy was completely gone and it was just a piece of stubborn stone.
Going down from Guangmingding for about 20 minutes, you can see Feilaishi. The stubborn stone (immortal stone) in the famous drama "Dream of Red Mansions" is this huge stone, which is 12 meters high and weighs 600 tons. The bottom and the peak are suddenly separated, as if it flew from the sky, so it is named Feilaishi!
The second symbol of Huangshan - Flying Stone! You must touch this fairy stone. The first touch brings official position, the second touch brings wealth, the third touch brings happiness, and the fourth touch brings peach blossoms.
One of my favorite scenic spots in Huangshan is the continuity of the longitudinal cracks between the Feilai Stone and the rock mass below it, indicating that they were originally one. The water in the cracks above the rock mass freezes at low temperatures, and the volume increases, causing the cracks to deepen and widen. When the temperature rises, the ice melts into water and further penetrates into the rock along the enlarged cracks. This repetitive ice splitting action causes the surrounding rocks to gradually peel off, leaving only a stone pillar. This is also the main cause of the stone pillar landscapes such as the magpie climbing the plum tree and the dream pen producing flowers.
The formation of the Flying Stone is related to crustal movement and weathering over the years. There are many beautiful legends surrounding the Flying Stone. There are Flying Stones in many places, but the Flying Stone in Huangshan is the filming location of the "The Stone of Patching the Sky" in Dream of Red Mansions, so it is also a must-see place for tourists to Huangshan.
Stones flew from the clouds in the sky and floated down to the mountains, standing as slanted pillars.
It is tens of meters high from the top and weighs more than 600 tons.
The stubborn stone in the play Dream of the Red Chamber was originally filmed based on this huge rock.
One of the landmarks of Huangshan, it is visited by a constant stream of tourists.
2023.7.16yAfter visiting Guangmingding, we walked through the clouds and mist to Feilai Stone. The whole view could not be seen clearly in the mist.
After visiting the Five Mountains, you will not look at any other mountains. After visiting Mount Huang, you will not look at any other mountains.
Nature is truly amazing, this looks amazing
Standing on the Qunfengling, looking at the Flying Stone, the Flying Stone is also known as the "Xiantao Peak". The stone is more than ten meters high and weighs about 360 tons. The root seems to be separated from the peak, as if it flew from the sky, so it is named Flying Stone. This Flying Stone has a close relationship with "Dream of Red Mansions". Legend has it that when Nuwa repaired the sky, two more stones fell on the earth. One is the spiritual jade that Jia Baoyu held in his mouth when he was born in the Dream of Red Mansions, so "Dream of Red Mansions" is also called "The Story of the Stone", and the other fell on Huangshan, which is now the Flying Stone. Therefore, the stubborn stone in the opening of the 1987 version of "Dream of Red Mansions" was shot with this Flying Stone "disguised".
I have to give a good review, it's the only place that gives me face, I haven't seen it anywhere else!
The flying stones in the fog also have a special flavor.
I heard that the flying stone was the stone used in the filming of Dream of Red Mansions. I took several photos with great interest, but when I looked through the photos, I felt something was wrong. Why did it look different from what I saw on TV?
When I got to the top of the mountain and looked back, I realized that this was the correct angle.
Note that this point is more suitable for shooting from a distance, but it will not be effective when shooting up close.
A very strange stone from a distance, very magnificent up close
Located between Guangmingding and Paiyun Pavilion, it is one of the landmarks of Huangshan.
The upper stone seems to have flown from the sky, hence the name "Flying Stone".
The scenery here is very beautiful, it is definitely worth a visit, and the stone itself is also very unique
On the way from Guangmingding to Paiyun Pavilion, past Hezhang Peak, you can see the peaks of the West Sea. There is a railing on one side of the whole rock but not on the other. The best place to take pictures of the Flying Stone is at the viewing platform less than 50 meters away from the scenic spot. Be careful not to miss it.
The Flying Stone is located on a flat rock in Pingtiangang, Huangshan Scenic Area, Anhui Province. It is formed by natural weathering. The contact surface between the two rocks is very small, and the upper stone seems to have flown from the sky, so it is named "Flying Stone".
Among the peaks at the west end of Pingtian Ridge in Huangshan Scenic Area, there is a huge stone standing on a rock platform. The huge stone is 12 meters high, 7.5 meters long and 2.5 meters wide; the rock platform below it is 12 to 15 meters long, 8 to 10 meters wide, 1.5 to 2.5 meters thick, and weighs about 360 tons. It has a strange shape, and such a huge stone is erected on a flat rock about 12-15 meters long and 8-10 meters wide, which is amazing! The contact surface between the two rocks is very small, and the upper stone seems to have flown from the sky, so it is named "Flying Stone". Geologists believe that the wonder of Flying Stone was formed during the geological change process, which can be said to be created by heaven and earth.
The filming location of the 1987 version of A Dream of Red Mansions...
An iconic classic, visit here...
Wind erosion is evident and is decreasing every year, so come and take a look and feel it.
On the way from Paiyun Tower to Guangmingding in Huangshan, the huge rock looks like it will fall down at any time. People standing below it feel a bit oppressive. The old version of Dream of Red Mansions chose this place as the cover, but the shooting angle is different. The cover is shot from the front of the rock to avoid the guardrail. The cliff below Feilai Rock is the West Sea Grand Canyon.
The second picture was taken after watching the sunrise from Guangmingding and looking at the sea of clouds. This place should be not far from Feilaishi, but I didn’t climb the peak of Feilaishi. When I was going down the mountain, I looked at Feilaishi from a distance, and the photos I took were able to capture the whole picture~ The stubborn stone in the 1987 TV series "Dream of Red Mansions" was the Feilaishi of Huangshan Mountain.
The flying stone hanging on the cliff is shaky, but it has held on for thousands of years; the most fascinating thing is that you can find the lonely flying stone from every angle. From a distance, it is a graceful and handsome picture, and when you get closer, it is so strong and majestic; it is a guess, where does this legendary flying stone come from, where is it going, and whether this flying dream will also enter my dream...
It was my second time climbing Mount Huangshan, and I got to see the Flying Stone from all angles, near and far, and it is indeed one of the wonders of Mount Huangshan.
The Flying Stone is truly a work of nature, and it is a different scenery when viewed from different directions.
Because the thick fog lingered for a long time, the peaks had long disappeared, leaving only this huge rock that seemed to have flown from outer space standing quietly on the flat rock. It has experienced countless sunny days and thunderstorms, and what awaits it in the future is still endless unknown.
The Flying Stone is not far from Guangmingding. There is only a one-person staircase leading to this 11-ton boulder. There is no guardrail around one side, which is quite exciting.
The scenery here is very beautiful! If you come to Huangshan, you must come here to see it. It is really beautiful, but the photos are not as real as the actual feeling, it is awe-inspiring!
I went to see the Flying Rock. As a fan of the 1987 version of Dream of Red Mansions, I have always wanted to see the location of the big rock at the beginning of the 1987 version of Dream of Red Mansions. I heard that it was the Flying Rock in Huangshan. The Flying Rock looks like a golden pillar in the sunset. If you don't see it with your own eyes, you can't imagine how this huge rock stands abruptly on the cliff.
Passing by Feilai Stone. A huge stone stands on the peak of the mountain, with the mountain body protruding forward, and the surrounding scenery is in full view. Below it are cliffs and gullies. The words "Painting Realm" are written on the bottom of the stone, and the beautiful scenery here is worthy of this book.
The Flying Stone looks better from the side than from the front, and from a distance than up close.
Be careful with the flying rocks, I was so scared on it. But it's pretty powerful.
On the way from Guangmingding to Xihai, you will pass by the strange stone that appeared in the opening of Dream of Red Mansions. Let me repeat this familiar story: A long, long, long time ago, when Nuwa was mending the sky, two stones fell on the earth. One was the spiritual jade that Jia Baoyu had in his mouth when he was born in Dream of Red Mansions, and the other fell on Huangshan, which is now the Flying Stone of Huangshan.
On the top of a protruding mountain, there stands another huge rock. The surrounding mountains appear and disappear in the mist, and people can't help but marvel at the wonders of nature. It is said that the opening of the 1987 version of Dream of Red Mansions is this huge rock. I wandered around the Flying Rock for a long time and couldn't bear to leave.
Flying Stone. Since we watched the sunset and then went to see the Flying Stone, it was already night so we couldn't see it clearly. The correct route should be to see the Flying Stone first and then go to Guangmingding to watch the sunset.
It is really strange to see Feilai Stone from a distance. There is a viewing platform on the west side of the stone. Several hikers are already sitting on the cliff waiting for the sunset. To the west is the Xihai Grand Canyon and Danxia Peak that we just walked through. Looking at the first and second rings that we just walked down, it is like a road to heaven. The sun is hiding in the clouds in the west. The thin clouds have been dyed red. Everyone is waiting quietly. There is a thick layer of clouds on the top of the mountain.
Is the pine tree on the Lingshi the incarnation of Lin Daiyu? The stone and the pine tree are in a painting. Looking back at the flying stone in the morning, it is like a hero roaring to the sky.
After two steps and three climbs, we encouraged each other and finally saw the silhouette of the Flying Stone! Although I could only look at it from a distance for the time being, it was enough to make me excited and forget my fatigue. A bare big stone was inserted vertically on the top of the cliff without any support. The "Flying Stone" was really a very appropriate description. It was a coincidence that there was really no mountain around the Flying Stone that was higher than it to steal its limelight. It was the only one that was superior and looked down upon the mountains. I was lucky. The mountain I was on was a great place to look far away. Although the wind on the mountain was very strong at that time, the fog had not been blown here yet, so the Flying Stone was still clearly visible. However, the fog soon slowly dispersed in the mountains, a thin layer, moving lightly along the wind direction, and the Flying Stone was looming, like a fairyland. The pine trees next to it also looked more vigorous and upright in the fog. When the wind passed, it seemed to set off layers of green ripples. If it weren't for the coldness on the top of the mountain, if it weren't for the increasing fog, I could really stay here for a while. After leaving the viewing hill, we took a close look at the Flying Stone. The huge stone was like a shuttle, slightly tilted and inserted into the hilltop. There were too many tourists under the stone, and judging by the height and distance, plus the thick fog, the view was not good. So we just took a symbolic look and left.
There is more than one flying stone on Huangshan Mountain. You can go up to the platform above, but it is a bit scary.
Feilai Stone is located between Guangmingding and Xihai Hotel. It is a stone that seems to have flown from the sky, so it is called "Flying Stone". From here you can see the sea of clouds and sunset of the West Sea, which is very spectacular!
It's a very nice stone, and the name describes it very well.
On the way from Xihai to Guangmingding, you can see this flying stone. It is really different from what you imagine. It is huge! It really looks like it flew from outer space.
The contact area between the Flying Stone and the base rock is very small, and the upper stone seems to have flown from the sky, hence the name "Flying Stone".
This stone must be familiar to everyone. It is the stone in the old version of "Dream of Red Mansions".
One of the must-see attractions in Huangshan, a huge rock stands alone on a cliff, which is breathtaking!
The first day was foggy and I couldn't see the true face of the mountain even when I was close to it. The next day, the fog disappeared and I could see its magic.
On the way from the back mountain to Guangmingding, the viewing effect was poor due to heavy fog.
The “flying stones” in the clouds vividly depict the mysterious and fateful “alien visitor” in the poem “One is a fairy flower in the paradise, the other is a flawless jade. If there is no fate, why would I meet him again in this life…”
The "Flying Stone" still hasn't flown away...
The Flying Stone is located on a flat rock in Pingtiangang, Huangshan Scenic Area, Anhui Province. It is formed by natural weathering. On the first night in Huangshan, I stayed at Huangshan White Goose Villa. The next day, I woke up early and found that the rain had stopped temporarily. I looked out at the surrounding peaks from the flat land in front of the villa, and the "Flying Stone" in the distance came into view.
A strange stone from outer space falls to earth, strange and unique. 😃😃😃
It seems to have flown from the sky. Wow, it weighs more than 600 kilograms.
Huangshan is a unique and absolutely representative natural landscape.
You can see it from a distance, and you can also walk up close to see it.
This natural strange stone is really heavy. When a person stands under the stone, he looks like an elephant or an ant. Such a big stone with the cone head standing upright, the pressure the rock has to bear can be imagined. It is precisely because of its thrilling nature that the force is directed to the solid rock, so it has stood for tens of millions of years. When the Dream of Red Mansions was filmed in 1984, it was featured on the camera and entered thousands of households.
At Pingtian Ridge in Huangshan (northwest of Guangmingding), there is a huge rock standing on a stone platform (1,730 meters). The opening credits of the TV series "Dream of Red Mansions" were filmed here.
People born in the 1980s and older are familiar with the Flying Stone. The opening scene of the 1987 version of Dream of Red Mansions is very impressive. The Flying Stone has different shapes when viewed from different angles, and it even looks like it is not a piece of stone. I think it looks the most ordinary when viewed from close up.
Huangshan is a place that is very selective. The Feilai Rock is located in a strange place, and even people who take pictures have to be extra careful with their feet. If you are too close, you can't take a good picture, and if you are too far away, the picture will be too small.
The flying stone was a surprising discovery during the trip. It reminded me of a scene from Dream of the Red Chamber.
Similar to the Flying Stones in other places, the Flying Stone on Huangshan Mountain is also a lonely stone pillar standing abruptly on the mountain peak.
I immediately thought of the first scene of "Dream of Red Mansions". The strange rocks are one of the four wonders of Huangshan. They look quite unsafe, especially with the sign next to them saying "Don't get close on rainy days".
A taller rock stood upright on a larger rock, like a rock that had fallen from the sky.
It's a big piece of stone, and I don't know where it came from.
I didn't climb up to the platform under the stone, it's better to just look at it from a distance on the observation deck.
Among the peaks at the west end of Pingtian Ridge, there is a huge stone standing on a rock platform. It is a magical stone standing on the edge of the cliff. It really looks like a thing from heaven. It is worth seeing.
I was lucky. When I arrived at Feilai Rock, the sun came out and I saw the sea of clouds. It was amazing. There is nothing else to see after returning from Huangshan.
I arrived around 7pm, groped around in the dark, and took a photo. The view was great. Worth going again.
It is said that the Flying Stone is a stone that no one knows where it came from. It is like a stone from outer space. The terrain nearby is quite dangerous and you must be careful.
The Flying Stone is located in the northwest of Guangmingding, nearly 1 km away. The western end of the Tianhai Pingtian Rock is a nearly rectangular column standing on the bedrock platform of the peak, heading southeast, 7 meters wide, 1.5-2.5 meters thick, 15 meters high, and weighing about 544 tons. The shape is strange and amazing! What is even more surprising is that such a huge stone is erected on a flat rock about 12-15 meters long and 8-10 meters wide!
