Huihang Ancient Road

The third famous ancient road in China, with a total length of about 25 kilometers, was an important link between Huizhou and Hangzhou in ancient times. Now it has become a paradise for beginner hikers.
The corridor with the most spectacular natural scenery and the most mysterious culture. Nearby attractions include Zhanshan Grand Canyon, Hu's Ancestral Hall, Qingliang Peak, and the First Pass in Jiangnan.
The air is fresh and the scenery is charming; it combines the natural characteristics of green, secluded, spiritual, strange and wild, making it an excellent place for outdoor sports, leisure and vacation.
The best time to hike the ancient trail is in late March, when the azaleas are in full bloom all over the mountain, which is very beautiful.

Once upon a time, the famous saying of Jixi people was "thirteen or fourteen, just throw it out". For example, Hu Xueyan walked out of Jixi and went to Hangzhou through the Huihang Ancient Road, and was given the title of "Red-topped Merchant". Today, the 18-kilometer-long Huihang Ancient Road is no longer a channel for Jixi people to go out for business, but the third famous outdoor hiking route in China after the Silk Road and the Ancient Tea-Horse Road. During the Qingming Festival this year, I walked this ancient road in two and a half days.

I walked through it in 2 times! I walked in from two entrances~ Although it was tiring, the scenery was really good! There were not many people, it was very quiet, and the wind in the mountains was very refreshing.

During the 2019 Spring Festival holiday, I hiked the Huihang Ancient Road. Starting from Jiangnan First Village, I walked to Xiaxuetang and returned along the same route, which was about 15km round trip. After arriving at Huangmaopei Village, the road was much flatter and easier to walk, and the scenery was also more ordinary. The most beautiful part was the Xiaoyao Valley. Next time, I plan to go in the opposite direction, east in and west out, to Lantianao.

The first ancient road in China. I went there in autumn. It is so beautiful! It is about 15 kilometers long. We walked for two days. On the first night, we stayed in Shuiyunjian, a hotel in the mountains. It was very nice. Huihang Ancient Road is worth visiting in spring, summer, autumn and winter. I will go there again in the future.

The mountain road is rugged, and there is gurgling water at the foot of the mountain. The scenery is still very good~ In some places, the road is really narrow, there are many stones, and it is not easy to go down the mountain. It is suitable for a leisurely stroll in the mountains and rivers~

The Huihang Ancient Trail is one of the top ten hiking routes in China. It has superb natural scenery, with green mountains, clear waters, wild flowers, birds singing, streams gurgling, and the sound of wind, which is pleasing to the eyes all the way.

During the Qingming Festival, we went back through the Huixing Ancient Road. The first half was the Lantianao and the second half was the Xiaoyao Valley. The road was easy to walk on, and there were few climbs and many downhills, so the overall trip was very relaxing.

I was recommended to Mount Lushan four years ago, but I couldn't make it happen after making several plans. April should be the best time for hiking, but it rains a lot in the south and it's hard to have good weather on weekends. I set out on Friday in late April to Hangzhou, and took a car to Jixi on Saturday, then took a bus to the entrance. After entering the ticket gate from Jixi, there was a continuous uphill staircase, which was very challenging for me who hadn't exercised for a long time. After 2.5 kilometers, there was a gentle dirt road and a car. The whole 18 kilometers took five hours, which was a normal speed. The end of April was not the peak flowering period of rhododendrons, but it was still very beautiful. The mountains and rivers on both sides of the road merged into streams, which were very clear and you could see small fish. There were accommodations, food and water supplies in the scenic area, which were convenient and depended on personal needs; the Xuancheng section came out of a small village, and there was no public transportation after four o'clock. There were local vans, but the charges were really expensive. If you leave on the same day, you must pay attention to the time. It's also good to stay in a small village for one night. It's very quiet after the sun sets. Breathing the air in the mountains and listening to the chirping of insects and birds is also an experience of traveling.

I was at home during the National Day holiday, so I decided to join the tour group. The two-day trip was quite relaxing. We even brought a tent with us, but we ended up setting up the tent on the roof of someone's building. It was freezing cold in the mountains at night. Haha

Spend a day walking along the Huihang Ancient Road and experience the ancient Huizhou merchants. If you feel that you are not so physically fit, you can choose to go in reverse, which is more labor-saving and you can complete the whole journey in 5 hours (personal experience).

The Huihang Ancient Road was an important channel for the exchange and trade between the merchants of Huizhou and Zhejiang in history! It is also a corridor that combines natural scenery and mysterious culture! It is the first ancient road in China. Famous attractions: Jiangnan First Pass, Xuetangling, Lantianao, Yixiantian, etc.

It was my first time to participate in a hiking activity. I completed it in two days. It was not very intense and suitable for beginners. The scenery along the way was great!

On the day of the Lantern Festival, my roommate and I drove from Hangzhou to Zhejitian at 7am, then walked to Yonglai Village and had instant noodles at the foot of the mountain. We started hiking at 10am, playing while walking, and went to Lantianao with the local walnut seller. Unfortunately, it was smoggy and we couldn't see the scenery clearly. Finally, we had lunch in Maojiapei and walked to the first pass of Jiangnan. The scenery was pleasant. After returning, it was already past 4am when we arrived at the restaurant in Maojiapei. I won't talk about the miserable life afterwards. We went down the mountain at around 7am... I want to ask if there are any people who have come here wearing their clothes backwards and forwards together in one day.

The truly unique place is the stone road near the first pass of Jiangnan near the Jixi side. Then the several small villages and towns below Jixi are also good. It is good to see rape flowers in spring. You will pass Qingliang Peak along the way, but it is another route.

By Long Walker |

There weren't many people during the National Day holiday, but the traffic was a little inconvenient, so we decided to charter a car from the school. The hiking experience was still very good. On the first day, we walked from the entrance of Jixi to Lantian'ao. Due to the traffic jam in the morning, we lost a lot of time. It took us 3 and a half hours to reach Lantian'ao. We camped in Lantian'ao at night. On the second day, it took another hour to walk out of Zhejiang. Although it was raining, the scenery was very beautiful. Unfortunately, the distance was too short and I didn't feel satisfied.

The Huihang Ancient Road is a great place for hiking, where you can get a glimpse into the hardships of the Huizhou merchants.

Huihang Ancient Road is the entry route for hiking. The ticket is 68 yuan, and the compulsory insurance is 2 yuan, a total of 70 yuan. Entering from Jixi is a straight line. Before Lantianao, it is basically an uphill road, with a relatively flat road. The ancient road is built on both sides of the stream, passing through the First Pass of Jiangnan, Shicha Pavilion, Huangmaopei Village, Xiaxuetang, Lantianao and then going down the mountain. The exit is in Yonglai Village. At the beginning, there are stone steps, and then there are alternating mud roads and gravel roads. The mud road is muddy on rainy days and easy to slip; the gravel road is uneven, so it is recommended to wear shoes with thicker soles. It usually takes about 5 hours to complete the whole journey, not including meals.

The Hang-Anhui Ancient Road, which emerged around 2003, is now attracting more and more people. If you have time, you can take a walk on the Hang-Anhui Ancient Road. After all, there is still an ancient road from the First Pass of Jiangnan to Huangmaopei. The entire ancient road is estimated to be 2-3 kilometers long, and the rest are gravel roads, which can be understood as a hiking cross-country route! After all, it is a mountainous area with mountains and water, and the air is also good. You can take a walk on weekends. However, I found several problems when I walked down the road all the way, and I hope that later generations can refer to it. 1) The tickets to the scenic area are too expensive, which is also criticized by many people. This road has been walked for hundreds of years without charging. Now there are legal toll booths holding toll certificates. It is really a road tyrant bandit. Not only does it charge, but it also charges high. Even insurance is 70 yuan. It is said that they will increase to 108 yuan next year. Local villagers said that there are about 280,000 to 350,000 tourists each year. Let's do the math! Moreover, the local villagers did not share the dividends, and they were all swallowed up by them. There are no trash cans, no cleaners to collect garbage, and no street lights in the scenic area. Garbage is everywhere, on the hillside, in the river, on the road, and you can see piles of black ash from burning garbage everywhere! 2) The local people selling things are so annoying. You are the production area of pecans, and the price is cheap, but they still use some old and bad walnut kernels to cheat tourists, causing everyone to avoid walnut kernels. It's really self-destructive! The quality of the things you buy is good, and the reputation is outside. Everyone should take some back. The price in the production area is much cheaper than outside, and everyone is happy. Why bother? Why bother? You really don't know how to do business! I asked the local tour guide, good walnut kernels are 70-80 yuan per catty, and the color is bright yellow and delicious! You can buy according to this standard! Don't be greedy! 3) The scenic area has no planning at all. The white 7-8-story houses stand abruptly among the green mountains and waters. The scenic area needs accommodation and hotels to facilitate tourists. Yes, do you understand harmony? Do you understand coordination? It's very strange, either the house is across the road, if you don't know, you might think you are going in the wrong direction and end up in the hotel. It's really ridiculous!

By Cappuccino |

The air was very good, and the streams were gurgling along the way, winding down, and extremely clear. There was almost no signal in the mountains, so you should immediately turn your phone to flight mode. I had no experience, and it didn't take long for my phone to run out of battery. The end point of the first day was Lantianao. Near here, the mountain road narrowed and became steeper, and the steps seemed endless. We were camping, not staying in a hotel, but we had to make a reservation, because the space in Lantianao was only so big, and there were very limited tents that could be placed. On weekends, although it was not very popular, there would probably be no space if you didn't make a reservation. In the evening, we participated in a local bonfire party, where a large group of people gathered around the bonfire, singing and dancing, playing games, or chatting, and watching the stars. There was a roasted whole lamb on the bonfire in the center, which made people salivate. On the second day, we went down the mountain all the way. Except for a few dangerous slopes that needed to be walked carefully, the rest was much easier than the previous day. There was a flat road behind us. We could reach the end at noon.

By Xiqige |

As a well-known hiking route in China, the Huihang Ancient Road has quite complete facilities. There are not only vendors selling all kinds of equipment at the entrance, but also many local residents along the way who provide services ranging from accommodation to instant noodles and drinking water. You can travel light, or even take nothing with you. The entire route has stone steps, gravel roads, and mud roads. The section from "Jiangnan First Pass" to "Xuetang Courtyard" is relatively easy to walk. It is worth noting that the 3 kilometers to "Blue Sky Concave" is really a test of physical strength and willpower. Everyone should reasonably allocate physical strength. Come on! The scenery along the way is not bad, but I spent most of the time looking down at the road, and I also remind many hikers not to forget to stop and enjoy the scenery while running wildly!

By Scholar's spirit |

The Huihang Ancient Road starts from Fuling Town, Jixi County, Huizhou, Anhui Province, and ends at Maxiao Township, Lin'an City, Zhejiang Province. It is 20 kilometers long. Before the opening of the Hangzhou-Anhui Highway, it was a shortcut for Huizhou people to Shanghai and Hangzhou, more than 100 miles shorter than the detour through Yuling Pass. According to historical records, this ancient road was built as early as the Tang Dynasty and has always been an important channel for Huizhou merchants to exchange and trade with Zhejiang merchants.

"If you don't cultivate yourself in your previous life, you will be born in Huizhou, and when you are thirteen or fourteen, you will be thrown out." Huizhou, due to its narrow land and dense population, is destined to expand its vitality to the outside world. As early as the Eastern Jin Dynasty, Huizhou people had gone to foreign lands to work hard in the business world.

Most Huizhou merchants started their businesses with small capital and were particularly hardworking, so most of them chose to travel by boat or on foot. Generation after generation of Huizhou people trafficked in salt, tea, and mountain products, and embarked on many tough business roads, and the Huihang Ancient Road was one of them.

The route of the Huihang Ancient Road is generally about 20 kilometers from Huizhou to Zhejiang. I chose to enter from Anhui, stay at Lantianao, the highest point of the ancient road, walk through the Zhanshan Grand Canyon on the second day, and then return to Jixi. The whole journey is about 24 kilometers. The ticket price is 68 yuan + 2 yuan insurance

As an outdoor sport, it is worth taking a walk and feeling the ancient trail.

The Huihang Ancient Road is not long, suitable for beginners, especially reverse crossing. After reaching Lantian'ao, there is almost no big uphill along the way. Those who enter from the first pass of Jiangnan usually camp in Lantian'ao. There is a section where the mobile phone has no signal, but there are still many hostels on the road, and the safety risks are relatively small. Autumn is more suitable to go.

It is very famous, the scenery is average, they charge admission but the service is not up to par, for example there is a lot of garbage along the way.

By Yao |

It is a relatively beginner hiking route, basically all flat roads with occasional climbs, but the difficulty is not great. As long as you are in good health, there will be absolutely no problem walking this route. The scenery along the way is just okay, there is nothing too amazing, but the main purpose of everyone coming here is hiking, so it is acceptable.

The mountain road is rugged, and it is not easy to hike for 5 and a half hours, about 22 kilometers! On the morning of May 1st, we continued to set off from Lantianao to the next stop (and the last stop) Yonglai Village. It took 1 hour and it was basically downhill! This is the first time in my life that I have walked so many roads non-stop and it is a mountain road. It is the first time to try hillside camping, and it feels great! The beautiful scenery now, if you don’t come in person, you may miss it! (Friends who like hiking are worth coming. I have to say that we are very lucky that the weather along the way was sunny for two days)! Remind friends who want to go to prepare sunscreen and moisture-proof spare parts! It is very suitable for those who have no hiking experience. There are no dangerous places along the way, but you can see a lot of mountains and rural scenery. You can also retrace the historical roads and follow the footsteps of ancient merchants. At that time, this seemingly simple road was the only way for Anhui inland and Jiangnan coastal areas to trade. Friends who have time, come and experience it! It is strongly recommended to go the other way, which can avoid many people and the road will be relatively simple!

The Huihang Ancient Road was the main road for Huizhou merchants to enter Zhejiang in ancient times. It is about 16 miles long and is an entry-level hiking route in the Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai area. The scenery along the way is beautiful, with steep mountains, rugged rocks, high peaks and huge rocks, sandwiched between the north and the south, and the Xiaoyao River meandering in between. It is generally recommended to arrange two days, starting from Yuchuan, Anhui, staying in a tent in Lantian'ao or staying in a residential house in Shangxiaxuetang, and watching the sunrise from Lantian'ao on the second day. Hiking time reference: Yuchuan-Xiaoyaohe Hydropower Station (30 minutes)-Jiangnan First Pass (1 hour)-Reservoir (100 minutes)-Huangmaopei Village (2 hours)-Xiaxuetang (2.5 hours)-Shangxuetang (3 hours)-Lantian'ao (3.5 hours)-Nantianmen (20 minutes)-Mountain Foot Cement Road (50 minutes)-Yonglai Village (70 minutes)-Zhejitian (90 hours).

It is very convenient to start from Nanjing. The mountains are all around us. The mountain roads are well-built and there is basically no challenge. We stayed in the mountains at night. The room conditions were quite good. There was a bathroom for four people in a room. There was also a bonfire party organized in the evening, with roasted whole lamb. The food was local specialties, and the variety of dishes for several meals was basically the same.

Due to a navigation error, we went up the mountain from the back mountain of the Huihang Ancient Road, and turned back when we reached the top. I searched a lot of pictures online, and it seems that the scenery from the main entrance is better. However, I think the scenery along the way from the back mountain to the mountain is also very good. If there is a chance, I will go to the mountain from the main entrance again. It is worth a visit.

The facilities in the Jiangxi section are relatively well-maintained, but I feel that the Zhejiang section should no longer be called an ancient road.

This is my first hiking trip. It is called hiking, but it is more of a mountain climbing trip. The essence of hiking is not reflected in the two-day trip, but it is still a pleasure to have such a lung cleansing trip during unlimited working hours. Due to the rainy weather for many days, it has been drizzling during the hike. Although it has brought inconvenience to the hiking trip, the scenery is still excellent. Whether it is the colorful and distinct mountains in late autumn, the waterfalls falling from the sky, or the ever-changing sea of clouds and fog, it will make people feel that it is a wonderful visual journey~~

Huihang Ancient Road is no stranger to hikers. If you search for hiking routes online, you will definitely find a place for Huihang Ancient Road. Among the hiking routes, Huihang Ancient Road is relatively easy. I have learned about Huihang Ancient Road before and made some plans. I didn’t expect... I didn’t expect that the work organized the expansion of Huihang Ancient Road in 2015! Haha, I saved a lot of money again! It is a very easy one-day hiking route. You don’t need to prepare too many things. If you don’t stay overnight, one day of hiking is definitely enough. However, if you plan to stay overnight, it will be cold at night. In summer, you should prepare a thin coat, and in winter, it is better to wear something sturdier. There are several inns on Lantianao. Hikers who want to watch the sunrise can choose to camp or sleep in a bed. The prices are still moderate.

It took 4 hours to climb the mountain in Jixi. The scenery of the ancient road is not good.

By 可 |

Huihang Ancient Road has recently been called the first pass for hikers. It was free before, but later it became charged as more people came. Overall, it is still quite primitive. The first section is the scenic area and the village is behind it. Most of the supporting farmhouses are in Lantian Ao, which is suitable for camping. It is also the highest point with an altitude of 1080.

By Kuaiji's outstanding achievements |

If you come back from the ancient road, you won't regret it if you don't see the mountains.

By Minghu Xiaoyin |

It is an ancient road between development and undevelopment. The road conditions from Jixi section to Huangmaopei are relatively good. Xiaxuetang to Yonglai Village is relatively primitive. Each has its own beauty. But I still suggest that if it is to be a scenic spot, it needs further development. Someone on the road is right, that is, the primitive ecology is unprotected. If more and more people come and it is not protected, it will be destroyed. There are people burning wheat straw around, and the air doesn’t feel good. In Lantianao, I was almost stunned by the garbage above. As an entry-level route, for most people, it is challenging, but not enough to form a terrifying memory. In terms of scenery, I personally feel that it is not as good as the Xihai Grand Canyon in Huangshan, but it is still okay as a place to breathe fresh air on the weekend.

Walking along the Huihang Ancient Road is quite challenging, but it is meaningful only when there is a challenge.

By Yangzhou Leizi |

As an entry-level outdoor hiking route, the Huihang Ancient Trail has always been popular. After visiting it this time, I deeply feel that it is worth a visit.

One weekend, I met up with a group of friends and set off on a journey. This is no longer the difficult passage for Huizhou merchants to leave the province. It has become a way for future generations to make a fortune. The ticket price is 68 yuan per person. There are also several ticket checkpoints along the way. I didn't see any service. There are several small pavilions along the way for rest, and all the supplies are in the shops run by mountain people. The price is not expensive.

At first I thought 20 kilometers was no problem, but once I got on the road I realized it was not what I thought.

At the beginning, it was a mountain road, an upward mountain road, relying on the trekking pole for support. Panting heavily, after passing the first checkpoint of Jiangnan, the road became slightly flatter and everyone walked more easily. When we were heading to Lao Shao's house, the downhill mountain road was very steep, so we had to be careful and watch the road under our feet.

Fortunately, the natural scenery along the way is nice, with mountains and water, and some roads are also cool thanks to the shade of big trees.

By A tea egg |

The scenery is great, and the locals are very friendly when buying things. It's nice to buy some cucumbers to quench your thirst while hiking, but don't buy the small walnuts, the kind that cost ten yuan for two or three bags. I heard that they are all walnut kernels that have been stored for several years. This is a bit of a rip-off!

By Thylacine |

This ancient trail is definitely worth visiting. When you are exhausted and successfully reach the top, you will see the beautiful scenery and prove that you can do it!

For a lazy person like me, I will definitely not go there a second time.

I will go there again in the future, the scenery is so beautiful.

To be honest. It's not suitable for traveling, but more suitable for exercise. It was raining lightly, and it took from 3 to 7 o'clock to climb the mountain. The horse house was dark, and the view was better when coming out of the canyon.

It is said to be a hiking graduation route. It is my first time hiking alone and I really like this route.

The scenery along the way is magnificent, and from time to time there will be the sound of gurgling streams. It is cool and refreshing to wash your face with a handful of stream water! I found a hotel at the foot of the mountain. Next time, I can try to stay in a farmhouse inn on the mountain. It is beautiful to fall asleep with the sound of gurgling streams!

This is the least visited attraction I have ever been to. Hiking is very tiring but fun. The section in Anhui is well developed, but the Hangzhou section is not so good. The stream is full of garbage. My friend even took a bath in the horse drinking pool. Seeing the garbage in the mountains made him unhappy.

It was raining when we went there. The water in the canyon was rushing and all over the road. I was quite lucky☺️☺️

It was a bit cold when we went there in October, and the scenery was definitely not as good as in spring and autumn, but it was still a memorable first hike, and the air was nice.

The Huihang Ancient Road is already a relatively mature route, so you can just walk straight along the way. There are signs at each major location. There are small rivers on the right side almost all the way, and mountain springs will occasionally flow on the left side, so you can rinse your mouth and wash your face. The distances between the typical rest stops are very scientific, and there are all kinds of farmhouses around the rest stops, and there are basically no forks in the road.

It is best to arrange two days to complete the entire ancient trail, and you can stay overnight on the way, so that you will not be tired and you can enjoy the scenery slowly. For people who have lived in the city for a long time, it is worth a visit.

A place worth visiting for outdoor hikers. It is a good place to camp at night.

In 2010, I was still a poor student. I took advantage of the Qingming Festival holiday to go hiking. My first choice was the road that the red-top businessman Hu Xueyan had walked, the Huihang Ancient Road, which connected Jicheng, Anhui and Lin'an, Hangzhou. The weather was very good along the way, the scenery was beautiful, the water was blue, and I occasionally met many backpackers.

It feels like it has become a tourist attraction. There are houses along the way and the stream is full of bottles. Environmental management should keep up and over-development should be avoided!

The tourist service center of the Huihang Ancient Road is the real starting point of the Huihang Ancient Road. It is best to buy a disposable raincoat and a disposable hiking pole at the door, which will be useful. The cobblestone road is relatively flat and easy, but very short.

Call your friends and go! The hike takes about five hours and the scenery is pretty good.

There are not too winding plank roads, not too steep stone steps, and flat dirt or gravel roads.

The Huihang Ancient Road charges an entrance fee of 68 yuan and a discounted ticket of 45 yuan. I think this ticket should not be charged. It is not a closed scenic spot that requires management and operating costs, but a naturally formed transportation line. Charging entrance fees is tantamount to collecting tolls.
