Beijing Planetarium

北京天文馆

The first planetarium in China, where you can watch exciting high-tech movies and learn all kinds of astronomical knowledge.
The interior is divided into Hall A and Hall B. Hall A has an exhibition hall and a public observatory, which displays the origin of the universe and the history of the invention of the compass. It also has an observation function, where you can observe the beauty of space with an astronomical telescope.
The Planetarium is the most important area in Hall A. It has a spherical dome with a diameter of 23.5 meters. It uses advanced instruments to realistically restore about 9,000 stars visible to the naked eye on the earth. You can watch the changes in the starry sky and experience the beauty.
Hall B is mainly a wonderful theater show, using a dome screen and multi-dimensional technology to interpret the astronomical display movies in a shocking and wonderful way. The 3D theater is located on the B1 floor. When watching, you will experience shocking excitement, as if you are actually there.

There is a subway in front of the planetarium, which is very convenient. It opens at 9:30 every day, so pay attention to the closing time. You can pick up your ticket at the self-service device if you have made an appointment, which is very convenient, just like picking up a train ticket. The planetarium is divided into Hall A and Hall B, and you can watch movies in Hall B. If you buy a movie ticket, you don't need to buy a visiting ticket. The knowledge of the planetarium is more professional, and I don't understand it very well.

Our movie ticket was for around 12 noon, and we watched it just after lunch (in fact, we should have chosen an earlier one, so that we might end the visit earlier. Of course, we still have to choose one that the children like, or watch two). The movie is about 30 minutes long, very intuitive and interesting, and I highly recommend watching it. Unfortunately, I fell asleep.

Metro Line 4 is directly accessible, opposite the Beijing Zoo, which is very convenient. If you want to take a quick tour, you can visit the zoo together, but the zoo usually takes a long time. If you want to watch a movie in the planetarium, it will take more than half a day (we visited the museum carefully, so we visited very slowly). The old planetarium is not very big, but there is a famous Foucault pendulum, which can be visited for free if you buy a movie ticket. The children looked at the constellation map for a long time and learned a lot of constellations. The new museum has more exhibits, so you can spend more time here. We watched three movies, the 4D one was average, and the 3D and the dome were very good. When the baby is older, bring him here again, and the feeling will definitely be different.

I took the kids there, and we went there late. We spent too much time in Hall B, so the lights were turned off when we were in Hall A. The kids still liked it, but I wasn't that interested.

Childhood memories

I took my grandson to watch the stars that day, and something unexpected happened. My grandson had a high fever and convulsions. The museum activated the emergency plan and helped me send the child to the hospital for treatment. I was so moved that I couldn't express it in words.

Thank you to the staff in the planetarium, thank you!🤗🤗🤗🤗

On July 24, 2019, Liangzi and I visited the Beijing Planetarium. This museum is very unique and suitable for children to visit.

You can check the showtimes and pre-order tickets online by visiting the official website of Beijing Planetarium or following its WeChat public account. My favorite is the dome movie "Wonderful Starry Sky" in Hall A - Planetarium Hall (no photography during the show, as the flash will affect the viewing experience). The interactive experience in the exhibition hall is very rich, and there are free explanations that you can't miss. If you like science fiction, you will definitely linger. There are many children on weekends, and the atmosphere is more lively d( ̄ ̄)

To be frank, the Planetarium is the most boring of all the museums in Beijing... except for the movie in one exhibition hall which is OK...

The Beijing Planetarium is suitable for visiting with children, which can broaden their horizons and help them learn more about astronomy.

By Think about it |

The planetarium has a new building and an old building. When I bought the ticket, the ticket seller suggested that I only visit the old building. I thought that I couldn't visit it all anyway, so I decided to take a quick look at both buildings. As a result, it was difficult to get out of the old building after entering it.

I went to the new building and found that it was indeed much richer than the old one. I went to several venues and played some interactive games. The children were a little unhappy because they didn't have time to play. It was not even three o'clock and the security guards started to drive people away. It seems that this is a place I must visit again.

Just in time for the 10 o'clock movie "Wonderful Sky", the dome movie on the ceiling tells the four seasons of spring, summer, autumn and winter, and what constellations we can see in the northern hemisphere! The planetarium opens a door to outer space for children. For children, the bright stars can only be seen in movies. There are not many interactive programs in the planetarium, the only one is the slide. The children played on the slide several times and still couldn't bear to leave! After having my second child, I feel that my son is an adult, but judging from his enthusiasm for the slide, he is still a child.

I am an astronomy enthusiast, so I highly recommend going to the Beijing Planetarium and watching the 3D theater. In the planetarium, I learned to recognize the eight planets in the solar system. The Military Museum is near the planetarium. You only need to swipe your ID card to enter. The visit time is about an hour.

By Smile |

It costs only 10 yuan for adults and 5 yuan for discount tickets! The Beijing Planetarium is divided into two halls, A and B, and the tour takes about 2 hours.

By joy |

The films in the planetarium are particularly good, better than those in 3D, 4D, 5D, 6D, and 7D, and the dubbing is very authentic.

By that |

For children, the stars, the moon, and the sun are so mysterious and curious. What interests them most is their own constellation. They watch "Wonderful Starry Sky" very quietly and attentively. For those born after 2010, the brilliant starry sky is really the scene in pictures and videos.

The slide in the planetarium is the children's favorite. The long queues can't stop their enthusiasm. Yes, we played it 6 times in total.

The Beijing Planetarium consists of two halls, A and B, which display various popular science facilities, as well as a space theater and a 3D4D theater.

By Feifei and Binbin |

It's a good place, but there are too many people. The dome movie and 4D are good. It's worth coming here to bring children to learn scientific knowledge.

By Simple_Happy |

It's fun, there's a lot of content in it. As for the visiting time, if you walk one by one without stopping, it will take about 2 hours, but I played with my children for more than 4 and a half hours, and it was just the exhibition hall, without watching other movies. It's suitable for playing with children, not too cold or too hot, suitable for both winter and summer~

By Spring is coming |

Beijing Astronomical Observatory is no longer just about astronomy.

By Happy Panda |

If you want to learn about astronomy, it is a good place. But if you take your children (who are not in school) to play, it is not as good as the Science and Technology Museum. There are not many interactive projects here, and it is not as attractive as the Science and Technology Museum. But why do I still recommend it? Of course, it is the dome movie, which still tastes like my childhood, haha. But the price is not the same. If you want to take your children to the planetarium, it is recommended to go early in the morning, watch a dome movie and then go to the zoo opposite to play the second half. This day is full.

By Like water |

The planetarium is just opposite the zoo, so it would be more convenient if you arrange it on the same day. The navigation shows the back door, but you have to go around to the east gate to enter.

I personally think that it is worth visiting the planetarium because there are few people and the facilities are new, so you can fully explore it.

By Martian User |

Personally, I think this place might be more suitable for younger children. Older children will prefer 4D movies and dome movies.

By Big ZHU |

The most significant feature is the dome movie made on the ceiling. Looking up at the screen is just like looking up at the starry sky. It is an immersive experience that explains the origin and destination of the solar system.

By Lin Xi |

Planetariums suitable for children are usually closed on Mondays. So if you are a friend from other places who brings children to Beijing, you must read various online guides and make your own plans and put them online for your reference!

On the afternoon of August 7, 2016, I took three girls (7-11 years old) to visit the planetarium. I personally felt that it was not very interesting. It is divided into two halls, A and B. You can also watch 3D movies (you need to buy a separate ticket). We went there purely to accompany the children. For ordinary adults, it is not interesting unless you are an astronomy enthusiast. In the afternoon of the scorching sun, it is a very cool place to escape the heat, and there are many chairs for everyone to rest.

The Beijing Planetarium is located on Xizhimenwai Street in Beijing. It mainly promotes and popularizes astronomical knowledge to the public through artificial starry sky simulation performances, astronomical knowledge exhibitions, editing, publishing and distributing popular astronomical science books and periodicals, and organizing mass astronomical observations.

It is a national-level natural science museum and has become China's main base for popularizing astronomy and educating the public, especially young people. Since 1995, the planetarium has been successively named as a national, municipal and district-level popular science education base, a science and peace education base, a youth patriotism education base, etc., and has been awarded the honorary title of "Advanced Popular Science Group" at the national and municipal levels many times.

The Beijing Planetarium is divided into two parts: Hall A and Hall B. Hall A was built in 1955 and opened in 1957. The total construction area is about 7,000 square meters.

It completely exceeded expectations. It is worth taking the children there. I recommend it.

Beijing Planetarium is located directly opposite Xizhimen Zoo. It is small in size and consists of the new and old buildings. Due to its small size, the exhibition content is relatively limited. The most worthwhile thing to visit is probably the cinema in the museum, which has dynamic movies and dome movies. The transportation is very convenient, and the subway Zoo Station is directly accessible.

By Small dreams, big dreams |

Tickets are 10 yuan. There is a cosmic studio and a 4D cinema on the second floor of the zoo at Exit D. A 35-minute film costs 45 yuan.

The first floor is the moon, the sun and various planets. The experience is pretty good.

By Godmez |

I have often gone to the planetarium since I was a child. It is both educational and entertaining. I recommend the big dome movies.

There are many people during the summer vacation, so you must go early and it is best to book tickets online in advance.

By A small retreat to the forest |

Beijing Planetarium is very convenient to get to from Zoo Station (subway) or bus hub. The exterior design is quite good, with a sense of the times and scientific meaning. However, I am dissatisfied and puzzled by the current situation that all areas of the museum are charged (with extremely strict free conditions). The 4D and 3D cinema screening areas are charged, which is understandable, and most of the other areas should be free. This is the difference between China and most foreign countries. Many similar exhibition halls in Hong Kong and Macao are also free.

By Touching the fleeting years |

There are two halls. The new hall is larger and the children may be very educated.

On August 1st, I took Xu Xiang to have a look. He really likes the Science and Technology Museum.

The popular science museum has many pictures and some real objects, introducing the history of the development of astronomy in my country and astronomical knowledge.

The appearance is very domineering. This is my second time to go to the planetarium. The first time was in 1996. I still like astronomy and stars. When I went there, I saw parents bringing their children.

Get off at Zoo Station on the subway and exit at Exit D. The planetarium is nearby. Tickets to the exhibition hall are 10 yuan (two tickets are free with the museum annual pass), various theaters are 45 yuan per show, and children are 35 yuan.

The Beijing Planetarium is a science and education attraction chosen for children, where children can gain a lot: the full-dome movie "Lost Star" makes children feel as if they are in the vast universe, traveling through different celestial bodies, and experiencing the boundlessness of the universe; the unexpected encounter and passing by of celestial bodies allow children to experience the shocking power of celestial bodies and the wonder of cosmic changes; the release and gathering of stellar energy allows children to feel the ever-changing life characteristics of the world, and thus understand the laws of natural changes; the 4D movie "Across the Cambrian Period" brings children to a wonderful primitive state of survival, where they know the extraordinary process of life interpretation and evolution, increase their knowledge of natural evolution, and feel the powerful force of nature's changes!

In the planetarium, my daughter went in with her friends to visit, and I used this time to meet a good friend in Beijing, so I didn't take many pictures. But my daughter said she had a lot of fun, learned a lot of astronomy, and learned a lot of constellations.

We visited several exhibition halls in the planetarium, which is really a paradise for students. The introduction of each planet is a small dome movie, which slowly tells about their past, present and future. There are also many interactive models, which let the children have a concept of the universe. Once again, I sighed that the educational resources in the capital are so rich!

By A unique pig |

I think it's a good place for enlightenment for teenagers. I saw a father telling his children about the ancestor horse.

Both adults and children can learn scientific knowledge about celestial bodies here. The dome movie is worth watching and children like it very much.
