Dajue Temple

敕建大觉禅寺

Dajue Temple was first built in the Liao Dynasty and is famous for its clear springs, ancient trees, magnolias and elegant environment. The magnolias of Dajue Temple, the lilacs of Fayuan Temple and the peonies of Chongxiao Temple are known as the three major flower temples in Beijing. The temple of Dajue Temple faces east and the mountain gate faces the place where the sun rises, reflecting the architectural pattern of the Khitan people facing the sun during the Liao Dynasty. The temple was built according to the mountain terrain and is mainly composed of the temple building in the middle, the palace in the south and the monks' quarters in the north. The plaque on the door of the third hall of the temple, the Hall of Infinite Life Buddha, which reads "Watching the Movement and Stillness" was written by Emperor Qianlong and is of great historical value.

The thousand-year-old temple and the thousand-year-old ginkgo tree are both worth a visit.

By Chu Yunfei QQ |

A famous temple in Beijing's Western Hills, it has very beautiful magnolia and ginkgo trees. The scenery is particularly beautiful in spring and autumn.

By amberlg |

During the Jin Dynasty, it was one of the eight water temples in Xishan of Emperor Zhangzong of Jin. Later, it was renamed Lingquan Temple. During the Xuande period of the Ming Dynasty, it was renamed Dajue Temple. The relatively rare layout of sitting west and facing east is related to the old custom of the Khitan people who worship the sun. It is very quiet, with small gardens and ginkgo trees inside.

In the golden autumn season, I went to Dajue Temple in early November to enjoy the autumn. It was particularly beautiful! Many of the large old ginkgo trees in the temple turned yellow. The scenery was intoxicating, especially the thousand-year-old ginkgo tree in front of the Wuliang Buddha Longevity Hall. The feeling of being completely yellow was very beautiful. The movement of Emperor Qianlong's imperial pen was hidden in the yellow leaves. This time, I also met a beautiful woman who looked like a fairy sister outside...

It is called Dajue Temple for short. The ticket is 20 yuan. Ancient trees, ancient temples in western Beijing, especially famous for ginkgo. In late autumn, the red walls reflect the golden ginkgo leaves, which is very beautiful. This is also the season with the most tourists. Ancient trees, ancient towers, and ancient ponds. Every plant and tree is very precious. The ginkgo covers the sky and the sun. The temple is full of rugged rocks and layers. There is a scene at every step, very quiet. There is a parking lot in front of the door, which is well managed, but when there are many tourists, you have to wait to park, so you have to go early.

Last week, I went to the Ginkgo tree with my bestie. It was not yet completely yellow.

But we are already immersed in the view of no coming and going, movement and stillness

Comfortable and quiet, I want to check in every week

There were several tour guides on the unforgettable journey.

Very good explanation

Holders of the red Union Beijing Card are free of charge for admission

It was really a surprise on the trip. And I found that the ancient temple brought us more than one surprise. The first thing that shocked you was the Buddha heads on the trees. After entering the door, I saw several old pine and cypress trunks with many Buddha heads growing on them. With the quietness of the ancient temple, my mind traveled back to the prosperous time of the temple... The enlightened monk was meditating and enlightening, and the pine and cypress trees next to him swayed in the wind. The monk opened his eyes and walked under the tree and smiled: It's nothing, everything is fate, practice well...

Time flies. After the monk died, the tree slowly grew into the shape of a Buddha... a thousand-year-old ginkgo tree that can only be hugged by five people. Of course, I went there in the wrong season and my photography skills are limited. I couldn't capture its beauty. After worshiping the Buddha, I walked to the back mountain. The temperature dropped instantly. It is really a good place to escape the summer heat. Friendly reminder: be sure to bring floral water, there are too many mosquitoes.

In March, the air is clear and the grass and trees are growing. Spring mountains are visible. The thousand-year-old Dajue Temple is famous for its clear springs, ancient trees, magnolias, and elegant environment. In the Siyi Hall of the South Courtyard, there stands an ancient magnolia from the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. It is the "best ancient magnolia" in Beijing and the first of the eight wonders in the temple, namely the so-called "the fragrance of orchids in the ancient temple". (The eight wonders of Dajue Temple: the fragrance of orchids in the ancient temple, the thousand-year-old ginkgo, the old vines attached to the cypress, the buckthorn attached to the cypress, the spiritual spring water, the Liao Dynasty ancient stele, the pine and cypress tower, and the clear and green pool).

In early spring, the temple gradually blooms with bright pink flowers decorating the gate like the Spring Festival. An old apricot tree decorates the temple with a particularly quaint look, and the thousand-year-old ginkgo tree sprouts new buds. The ancient magnolias during the Qianlong period are in full bloom, and the whole tree is white, which is extremely gorgeous, and sets off the ancient temple in the mountains with a strong Chinese style. The blooming white magnolias are as big as fists. If there is no snow in early spring, it looks like snow flakes are piled up on the branches at first glance, but it does not add any coldness. Instead, the distant and elegant fragrance has earned it the reputation of "Jade Snow Balsam".

The magnolias of Dajue Temple, the lilacs of Fayuan Temple, and the peonies of Chongxiao Temple are known as the three major flower temples in Beijing. However, Chongxiao Temple no longer exists.

Dajue Temple holds the Magnolia Festival every year. During the festival, orchid-viewing and tea-tasting activities are also held in the temple as a traditional event of the festival. Go to Minghui Tea House to appreciate the on-site frying of spring tea and taste a pot of fragrant tea brewed with spring water. It is truly a feast for the eyes.

A quiet ancient temple, a charming place. Deep in the mountains and valleys, with a sea of fragrant flowers. This is Dajue Temple.

By The river is clear |

Dajue Temple is a thousand-year-old temple. Because it is located at the foot of Yangming Mountain in the west of Beijing, it is far away from the downtown area of Beijing. Generally, there are not too many tourists, so it is quiet and elegant. It is suitable for certain groups of people to go there for leisure and cultivation. There are 300-year-old magnolia trees in spring and thousand-year-old ginkgo trees in autumn. It is also a very unique place.

Cat lovers can go to Dajue Temple, where there are many cats. The ginkgo tree in the picture is said to have a long history and is a thousand-year-old tree.

The magnolia flowers in Dajue Temple are well-known, and the mountain peach blossoms on the back mountain bloom one after another at the end of March, and the whole mountain looks like it has psoriasis.

No coming and going, no movement, no stillness, no

Dajue Temple was first built in the fourth year of Emperor Xianyong's reign in the Liao Dynasty. It was called Qingshui Temple because there was a clear spring flowing into the temple. In the Jin Dynasty, it was one of the eight water temples in Xishan of Emperor Zhangzong of Jin, and was later renamed Lingquan Temple. After the reconstruction in the Ming Dynasty, it was renamed Dajue Temple, also known as Xishan Dajue Temple and Dajue Zen Temple.

Every year from late March to early April, the thousand-year-old Dajue Temple, located in the Xishan Mountains of Haidian District, holds a Magnolia Cultural Festival. The ancient white magnolia tree in the Siyi Hall of the temple is said to have been planted by the Zen Master Jialing in the Qing Dynasty, and it is nearly 300 years old.

Dajue Temple has the so-called eight wonders: the fragrance of orchids in the ancient temple, the thousand-year-old ginkgo, the old vines attached to the cypress, the buckthorn attached to the cypress, the spiritual spring water, the Liao Dynasty stele, the pine and cypress embracing the pagoda, and the clear green pool. The fragrance of orchids in the ancient temple in spring and the thousand-year-old ginkgo in autumn are the most worth appreciating.

Dajue Temple was first built in the Liao Dynasty and has a history of a thousand years. The ticket is 20 yuan. There are eight unique features of Dajue Temple: the orchid fragrance of the ancient temple, the thousand-year-old ginkgo, the old vines and cypresses, the buckthorns and cypresses, the spiritual spring water, the Liao Dynasty stele, the pine and cypress tower, and the clear pool with green rhyme.

Every time I walk into Dajue Temple, I have a different feeling. There are not many people and it is a quiet enjoyment. Every place inside has a long history, such as the inscriptions of Qianlong and Cixi, and the quaint buildings. I can relax my body and mind inside.

The best time to enjoy the autumn scenery is in early November, when the thousand-year-old ginkgo trees here exude a unique charm and look extremely beautiful with a golden hue.

By Small Deposit |

I have always wanted to go to Dajue Temple because the ginkgo trees there are very famous. However, the timing is not right this time, and it will probably take more than half a month.

I accidentally came across it and found out that there was a connection between Emperor Qianlong and Dajue Temple after visiting it. There is an exhibition room called Qianlong and Dajue Temple, which introduces Emperor Qianlong's several visits to Dajue Temple and the construction of Dajue Temple. Many plaques in the temple were written by Qianlong himself. Qianlong is one of my favorite emperors, so I instantly felt very close to Dajue Temple.

By Smile |

If you are interested in history, there are many places where Qianlong's calligraphy and painting are located. I just went there on 2017-8-20. My home is not far away, so I drove over. The ticket is 20 yuan, and it's free for people over 60 years old with a voucher. It's very small. If you just want to look around, it won't take more than half an hour. I'm glad that there are free explanations here. The guide is very good. I can understand some things along the way, such as the levels of Buddha>Bodhisattva>Arhat. Anyway, I feel very useful listening to it. In addition, there are several kittens here. I like cats, so I brought cat food to feed the kittens. I'm very happy. There is a teahouse and Shaoxing restaurant inside. The dishes are small and very expensive. I don't recommend it. If you drive here, you might as well go to Dianping to eat at a reputable restaurant in Mentougou. As I said, friends from the west of Beijing can come to the east, and friends from other places who are just visiting Beijing are not recommended to do this trip unless you come there specifically.

One of the eight water gardens of Emperor Zhangzong of Jin. The scenery is beautiful when you can see magnolias in spring and yellow leaves in autumn.

It is a place for worshipping Buddha. It is far from the city, close to Fenghuangling, in a village. If you want to worship Buddha, don't go there for sightseeing. It will take half an hour to finish the tour. There is nothing to do.

By Bamboo |

The temple is very well combined with the piano, tea and flowers. It is a good place to experience ancient culture. There are also vegetarian meals and accommodation in the scenic area for people to choose.

By Le Yapai |

Laiwu Dajue Temple is a free scenic spot adjacent to the Reflection Park. It was built in the Tang Dynasty and has a thousand-year-old tower. The scenic area has a very good environment.

By Mechanical Panda |

Simple and elegant, the main hall is indeed a relic of the Ming Dynasty, and the statues are very exquisite

By LENA |

I went there during the Qingming Festival, and many flowers were in bloom! There are many old trees inside, which is very rich. The tea at Huiming Tea House is very expensive, the cheapest one is 380 per person, but the seats are almost full.

By Rabbits running around |

Dajue Temple is located in the northwest of Beijing and is famous for its magnolia flowers. The entire temple is not big and is an ancient temple.

The scenery is pretty good, suitable for Beijing people to enjoy the flowers on weekends.

There are villagers selling fried ginkgo nuts and black dates outside, ten or twenty yuan a bag, they are quite delicious.

There are tea houses and restaurants in the temple, but they are all quite expensive.

There are two museums at the front and back of the temple that introduce the history of the Buddha and the temple. If you like, you can go and have a look. The writing and photography are good. Haha

By 7456 |

I always go out to play every weekend. Maybe playing is also a kind of personality. I always feel that I have heard the name Dajue Temple somewhere. Could it be Zhen Huan? Dajue Temple is near the Sixth Ring Road, so most people go there to seek peace of mind or to ask for something. It is said that Dajue Temple is very spiritual. There is a parking space outside, 10 yuan, unlimited time. The "front" is not big, and the inside is not a different world; after all, compared with the Lama Temple in the city center, the scale is still different. Dajue Temple was built in 1476 (if I remember correctly) in the Ming Dynasty. Although the area is not large, the layout is very reasonable, and all kinds of Bodhisattvas are also "complete". It is not recommended to buy incense outside, because I didn't see anyone burning incense in the temple. There are water sellers in the temple, and there is also a "Shaoxing Restaurant". The dishes inside taste good, and the price is similar to that of general tourist attractions. Opposite the Shaoxing Restaurant is a tea house, and the cheapest seems to be 380. I saw some people coming out to exercise. It was probably the ring road behind Dajue Temple, which is said to be less than 20 kilometers. There are many people selling various dried fruit snacks outside. The overall feeling of Dajue Temple (also called Dajue Zen Temple) is relatively quiet.

Dajue Temple is famous in Beijing for its thousand-year-old ginkgo and three-hundred-year-old magnolia. Once upon a time, in the writings of literati, other temples in Beijing that were famous for flowers included the peonies of Chongxiao Temple and the lilacs of Fayuan Temple. Chongxiao Temple basically no longer exists. It is not easy for Dajue Temple to still preserve such a grand scene. This is the root of the thousand-year-old ginkgo, the root of life. There is no place that does not coexist with the word vicissitudes. I really want to see through everything that happens in the world and the truth from it. Its mystery and heaviness tell people that silence may be the true meaning of survival. The nature of the temple is to give people a good attitude. It is best to think about everything. If you really can't think about it, just look at these jokes summarized by the predecessors. If you can't think about it again, that's your own business.

Dajue Temple is an ancient temple in Beijing. It was first built in the Liao Dynasty. Because there was a spring flowing through the temple, it was named Qingshui Temple. It was rebuilt in the Xuande period of the Ming Dynasty and renamed Dajue Temple. I came here in autumn this time. I originally hoped to see the yellow of the thousand-year-old ginkgo. Unfortunately, the temperature was not cold yet, and I only saw yellow and green. I also saw ancient trees. In addition to ginkgo, there are many other ancient trees in the temple, enough for people to see for half a day. Famous mountains and ancient temples, of course, Qianlong’s inscriptions are indispensable. There are also the Three Buddhas in the Main Hall and the Guanyin statue behind the "Dynamic and Quiet Viewing" Hall, which are all extraordinary.

If you want to look at each one in detail, you must read its introduction and follow the pictures. It will take a whole day to finish reading them all!

Dajue Temple is located in Haidian District, Beijing, far from the city. It is a nice and quiet place. Dajue Temple is like a kind elder in my relative's family to me. I always have to visit him every once in a while. This visit is usually chosen in spring and autumn. There is nothing else to think about, but the ancient magnolia and ancient ginkgo in this "relative's" house. In addition, I sit in the small courtyard, make a cup of tea, quietly watch the leaves fall, and the cats lie lazily in the sun. Time, nothing else matters

Dajue Temple is located on Yangtai Mountain in Haidian District. It was built in the fourth year of Xianyong in Liao Dynasty (1068). Unlike Han temples, which face south, the temple faces east instead. The temples built by Khitan people all face this direction because they face the sun. Dajue Temple is most famous for its ancient ginkgo trees. There are two behind the main hall, one in front of the Zhengshan Hall, and one in the abbot's courtyard. Every year from the end of October to mid-November, the ginkgo leaves turn yellow, attracting countless tourists.

If you go by bus, you can take Metro Line 4 to Beigongmen Station, transfer to Bus No. 346 to Wenquan West Station, and then transfer to Bus No. 633 to Dajue Temple Station.

If you drive yourself, parking is a problem and you have to wait in line for a long time during peak season.

I go there every year, not to see the flowers but to see the Liao Dynasty ginkgo trees. I was completely shocked when I saw them for the first time. The plaque of Dajue Temple is also the most impressive among the temples in Beijing. Now the temple seems to be built into a high-end club, with food and accommodation. Since there are no monks anymore, this is also good.

Dajue Temple, also known as Xishan Dajue Temple, was first built in the Liao Dynasty and was named Qingshuiyuan. It was renamed Dajue Temple after it was rebuilt in the Ming Dynasty.

The most pleasant thing about visiting Dajue Temple is its scenery and historical sites. As the temple was built a long time ago, there are many ancient trees, more than 160 in total, and the air is particularly fresh. Dajue Temple has 300-year-old magnolias and thousand-year-old ginkgo trees, which are very popular. The magnolia is especially famous, and is known as one of the three major flower temples in Beijing, along with the lilacs in Fayuan Temple and the peonies in Chongxiao.

The best thing about visiting Dajue Temple now is that the park managers have set up signboards for famous sights, allowing tourists to understand historical facts and grasp the characteristics while visiting, which doubles their interest.

By Wandering |

The imperially built Dajue Temple is one of the oldest temples in Beijing. It was first built in the Liao Dynasty. It is a Zen temple with Tibetan Buddhist architectural style and beautiful scenery. It is more commercialized, but fortunately there are few people. The Amitabha Buddha Hall and the Great Hall built in the Ming Dynasty and the Jialing Relic Pagoda built in the Yongzheng period of the Qing Dynasty have all maintained their original appearance and have a heavy sense of history. Circumambulate the mountain, the water, and the pagoda... continue...

By Alone with the wind |

Dajue Temple is very famous in Beijing. Many hikers choose the Dajue Temple line in Fenghuangling because of the scenery and fitness. I don't know much about temple culture, but I saw many hikers go to Dajue Temple, so I went to take a look (most of them probably go there to take pictures of ginkgo in autumn). After entering, I mainly took pictures of the contrasting colors of red and green.

By Mole |

When talking about magnolia, one cannot avoid mentioning Xishan Dajue Temple.

I came to Dajue Temple early in the morning of a spring day. Although the smog index in the city was off the charts, the weather in the mountains was fine. There were many tourists, some with children playing, some with cameras, and it was a lively scene.

The magnolias are well-known in Dajue Temple. The magnolia trees are concentrated in the north and south magnolia courtyards of the temple. They bloom most vigorously during the flowering season. The magnolia tree in Siyi Hall, which has now been converted into Minghui Tea House, is the most famous. The saying of the ancient temple orchid fragrance, one of the eight wonders of Dajue Temple, refers to this tree. The tree is ten meters tall and more than 300 years old. It is currently the oldest magnolia tree in Beijing.

After walking around, I found that there are actually not many magnolia trees in Dajue Temple. When I heard tourists around me complain that there are only a few trees and they are not as beautiful as those on the roadside, I laughed in my heart, thinking that they don't know how to appreciate the beauty of them.

Flower appreciation is not about quantity. Dajue Temple is quiet and elegant, and admiring magnolia flowers is more about Zen. When the flowers bloom, the white petals bloom on the branches, which are set off by the red walls of the ancient temple. Although the flowers are thick, they have a unique flavor when the wind blows them off.

But the magnolia blooms for a short time, so if you don't catch it at the right time, you won't see anything special. When I went there, the magnolias in the city were already in full bloom, but perhaps because of the low temperature in the mountains, the best magnolia trees in Dajue Temple were still in bud, unwilling to show their beauty to tourists. I heard from the staff that the best time to see it is after the Qingming Festival.

The old trees beside the temple have also sprouted new buds~

Being in Dajue Temple, it seems as if I have forgotten the existence of time, and time flies by inadvertently. The blooming seasons are one after another, and you really have to be in time to enjoy the flowers, otherwise you will miss them if you are not careful. I heard that the ginkgo trees in Dajue Temple are also very spectacular in autumn, so I decided to come back in autumn to enjoy the golden thousand-year-old ginkgo leaves. As for the beautiful scenery in spring, I will make up for it next year!

It is more convenient to drive there. It is easy to find with navigation. There is a parking lot there, and the parking spaces are usually sufficient. There are 346 and 890 commuter buses to get there.

Dajue Temple is not big overall. You can definitely visit it in about an hour. There are many historical witnesses inside. It looks very old and feels comfortable to visit. It is beautiful in autumn. The ginkgo leaves are yellow and very beautiful. There is also a vegetarian restaurant here. It is very popular and the dishes are delicious. Soy products and mushrooms are recommended, but the price is not low.

The temple is not big, but the ginkgo trees are beautiful. There were many people there on the day I went there, so it was a bit noisy and I didn't feel its tranquility and elegance. I heard that there were more people in Dajue Temple this year than in previous years, and it was noisy when there were more people.

It feels like the fish, cats, and trees in Dajue Temple all lead a leisurely and happy life, with a certain Zen feel. I'll go back and experience it again when there are fewer people around if I have the chance.

In spring, I always yearn for a garden full of flowers. I heard about the thousand-year-old magnolia in Dajue Temple before the holiday, and I have always been attracted by it. I decided to go to Dajue Temple to take pictures of magnolia. Unfortunately, the temperature in Beijing this year is too strong. The solar term seems to have come a month earlier. The soaring temperature caused the magnolia to die early. Wow, I should have gone 2 weeks earlier! However, fortunately, there are other flowers blooming enchantingly. Here are a few "flower" pictures to show the theme of a garden full of flowers~~

There are not many people. The first 100 people on Wednesday are free. You must get there early. The temple is not very big. Transportation is inconvenient. Bus 633 (the road is closed in winter due to snow). It is convenient to drive. The magnolia in spring and the ginkgo in autumn are famous in the west of Beijing. There is a Shaoxing restaurant and Minghui Tea House in the temple, but the prices are relatively high.

This is an ancient temple from the Liao Dynasty. Although it is not big, it has a long history and culture and is worth a visit.

The two magnolia courtyards in the north and south of the temple are even more famous. The magnolias here are ancient magnolias, which are quite different from the grafted varieties on the road. The flowers are small but look very delicate, and the flowers themselves have a good temperament.

Dajue Temple has magnolias in spring, wisteria in summer, ginkgo trees in autumn, and snow in winter. It is a great place for all seasons. When there are few people, the unique tranquility of the temple can make people feel calm.

There are two places to receive guests and stay here. One is managed by the tea garden inside the temple and charges very high fees, 1580 for an ordinary room and 5880 for a presidential suite. If you have friends who are rich, you can ask them to invite you to stay here. The other one is managed by the temple itself and the rooms are scattered inside the temple. The standard room costs 380.
