In the afternoon sunshine of winter, I walked alone through Dashilan West Street in old Beijing, studying and appreciating the various doors that have been through the years. This is what old Beijing looks like, red gates, red walls, ancient alleys, narrow roads, and old Beijingers, whose lives seem to be undisturbed by the other world outside the wall.

By Sun Tian Travels the World |

Dashilan, with a history of more than 500 years, is both ancient and modern. It rose in the Yuan Dynasty, was established in the Ming Dynasty, and has been prosperous since the Qing Dynasty. In 1900, the Boxer Rebellion set the whole street on fire, but it is still prosperous after reconstruction. Visit the century-old commercial street, buy century-old brands, and watch century-old theaters. Be a Ruifuxiang, try Liubiju, take a break at Zhang Yiyuan Wenji Tea House, and visit Tongrentang. The poster wall outside the Daguan Tower, the first cinema in Beijing that opened in the early years of the Republic of China, is particularly retro. China's first film "Dingjun Mountain" was released here.

All people outside Beijing think that Beijing Dashilan is the traditional commercial district of old Beijing. In fact, it once occupied this important position in the early years, but now the halo surrounding it has been discarded. Due to the involvement of capital, Dashilan has deviated from its original purpose of providing commercial services to the public and has become a mere name. Although the shops are colorful and the streets are crowded, there are few Beijingers in the crowd, because everyone understands that this is not a suitable shopping area. Qianmen Street including Dashilan has become a textbook of failed urban transformation!

The name is quite satisfying, a bit like the Confucius Temple in Nanjing.

Beijing's famous pedestrian street, very old Beijing characteristics

By 一Mani |

I just want to say that the noodles on the street here are really not very delicious

By Crazy Traveler|

The Dashilan that I remembered when I came to Beijing as a child is no longer there. The Qianmen Pedestrian Street and Dashilan have been renovated and no longer look like they used to. Fortunately, some old shops are still on this street, which has retained some of the old times.

By Hi_Han Qiu|

The buildings in Dashilan are somewhat similar to those in the Qing Dynasty, and there are also buildings that combine Chinese and Western styles.
What is sold here are food, drinks, clothes and daily necessities.

By Swirling Water |

Located in the south of Beijing, this busy pedestrian street is crowded with tourists at night and lined with shops. The earliest Chinese film was born here.

By Nana |

This is a tourist street that every city has. There are many time-honored shops in Dashilan, and the buildings on both sides of the street are quite interesting.

By Bao Gai Shi|

It is a famous commercial street outside Qianmen in Beijing.

By ahningha tiyo |

Another street that crosses Qianmen Street is quite lively, but it seems that there is nothing to visit. There are only some food and drink shops selling things. I took a quick look.

By Why call her a beauty! |

Coffee shops are popping up everywhere, and the taste, presentation, ingredients and decorations are all good. The selling point of "going up the roof and removing the tiles" can really stand out.
In the afternoon, with the setting sun, I was playing around with a few friends, taking pictures of them left and right, it was really fun.

Dashilan Street, 275 meters long, is the most influential and story-filled street in Qianmen.

An alley in Qianmen Street. The last two characters are pronounced as "Shilan", not "Zhalan".

By VVV🎈 |

This is a magical street. While walking along it, you will come across century-old brands. However, the things sold there are no longer the same as before. Deyun Club is also here. There are many things to eat and visit. It is more pleasant to visit than Nanluo, but there are not many toilets.

By Heart in the Sea of Stars |

Qianmen Dashilan is a very famous street in Beijing. People from other places will pronounce this place name wrong because "闸" is pronounced as "shi" here, which is a convention. There are old Beijing brands on both sides, which is quite worth visiting. You can buy some figures here to take home.

Beijing's Central Axis - Dashilan, a crowded commercial street

By On the Road |

Dashilan is on the main street in front. Dashilan is the birthplace of Chinese film. It houses the Tongrentang Pharmacy, Goubuli steamed buns, and the Deyun Club which has become quite popular in recent years.

By CiCi My Neighbor Totoro |

If you are visiting Beijing for the first time, you can still go shopping. There are many time-honored brands, and it’s nice to reminisce about the past!

By Cool Daddy|

Qianmen Dashilan retains the original old Beijing style, and more than 80 time-honored Chinese brands gather here.
The quaint Five Archways and ancient buildings of various styles constitute a unique painting of the ancient capital.

By Fengxing|

Before coming here, the Dashilan in my mind was a famous commercial street outside Qianmen, and nothing more; after coming here, the Dashilan in my eyes is simply a museum of time-honored brands, Daguanlou Cinema, Wang Mazi Knife and Scissors, Nei Liansheng Shoe Store, Ruifengxiang Hongji, Tongrentang Pharmacy, Donglaishun Restaurant, Buyingzhai, Xiangyihao... Once upon a time, each of them was a well-known domestic brand, and their status in the hearts of the people at that time was at least not lower than that of Adidas and Nike today. Being able to shuttle between these century-old stores and feel their history and present, this day's trip can be considered a success.

By boiled water |

ps: 1. If you are considering buying local specialties, you must visit several stores, at least three stores before deciding to buy, otherwise you will find that each store is cheaper than the other; the same goes for souvenirs, visit several stores and walk around with a shopping mentality.
2. For dinner, you can buy some snacks from Huguo Temple near Qianmen Street. In short, the night market is actually quite good. There are also many old tourist shops nearby, where you can take photos or visit.
3. There is a branch of Deyun Club on the street near Qianmen Dashilan. If you are interested, you can buy a ticket and go in to listen to crosstalk.

By Christine |

It's pretty good. I like this kind of down-to-earth place. However, it is completely commercialized. There is nothing else to do except shopping. It's better to walk around the hutongs. Maybe there will be surprises. 😄

There are many breakfast shops in Dashilan in the morning, which are all common breakfast items such as steamed buns, siomai, steamed dumplings, rice porridge, millet porridge, soy milk, noodles with soybean paste, beef noodles, etc. If one person eats, he can be full in 15-20 yuan. There are several classic shops, such as Ruifengxiang, Tongrentang, Zhang Yiyuan, Nei Liansheng, Daguanlou, etc. The movie tickets for Daguanlou are easy to buy and not expensive. They are easy to buy on group buying software. The two small theaters of Deyun Club are also in Dashilan, Sanqingyuan and Guangdelou. In addition, there are Dashilan and Xianyufang on both sides of the main road. After passing through Xianyufang is Bianyifang, which serves authentic Old Beijing roast duck in a steamed oven. It is very delicious and take-away service is also available. There are several types to choose from. There are frozen ones that are baked in the morning, freshly baked ones, and those with a shelf life of 30 days. Except for freshly baked ones, all others can be sealed in plastic.

A snack street in Qianmen Street...

By One Fish is Not a Fish |

Dashilan is next to Qianmen, and is a place for eating and drinking, and is full of tourists.

By Dannyko |

The food experience in Dashilan is quite good. There are many old Beijing restaurants, and there are also many meals for eight and ten people, with an average cost of less than 100 yuan per person. The roast duck is very crispy, and there are spring pancakes, pea yellow, donkey rolls, Beijing-style pork shreds and other dishes. After eating, you can also stroll around the pedestrian street of Dashilan and buy two strings of old Beijing candied haws, which is very pleasant. It is said that there is a Bianyifang roast duck restaurant in Xianyukou Food Street opposite Dashilan that has a very good reputation, but it’s a pity that I didn’t try it.

By I want to walk alone|

We went too early, Madame Tussauds was not open yet, and the shops here are all open after 10 o'clock.

By Mrs. |

Dashilan is full of shops and is very lively. We think it is the most interesting spot so far. Although we just took a quick look, if you are serious about buying things, you can find a lot of goods here. Many of the shops here have a history of more than a hundred years. Those who used to sell cloth now sell ready-made clothes. There is also a small business district inside.
There is also a small indoor shopping district in the middle section, which sells various small items. I saw netizens say that you should buy things in Dashilan, not in Nanluoguxiang.
This street has department stores, gift shops, restaurants, and McDonald's. It is really lively. You can come here for a walk when you visit Beijing.

By Scar Western Food |

Dashilan and Qianmen Street intersect. There are many tourists here and there are also many old shops. Qianmen Street has been renovated and is much more spacious and grand.

By Feeney |

Go out at 8 o'clock in the morning and take a look at the street view of Dashilan. Red windows and gray tiles, Chinese-style shops can be seen everywhere, and the buildings here are very culturally distinctive.
There are also many food shops, with breakfast buns, soy milk, porridge, and everything else. The price for two people is about 20 yuan, which is quite satisfying.

By Lianlianzi|

I was very excited when I saw Dashilan. I like the atmosphere here better than Wangfujing.

By 🐷猪👀Xiao Rui |

Dashilan is a gathering place for all kinds of snacks. It is an ancient commercial street with a combination of modern and classical flavors. There are all kinds of delicacies and small items, and there is always something you want.

By Wuyang|

Dazhalan is actually spelled DA-ZHA-LAN in pinyin, but it is transliterated orally as "Dashilanr" (DA-SHI-LANR). As soon as you hear the "er" sound at the end, you know it is authentic Beijing dialect. No matter what input method you use, when you type "Dashilanr" in pinyin, the words "Dazhalan" will never appear, because the word "栅" in "栅栏" does not have the polyphone SHI in the dictionary. Since it has been passed down by our ancestors, no matter how it is pronounced in the dictionary or how it is pinyined on road signs, although it is written as "DA-ZHA-LAN", the actual reading still follows the tradition. Friends who come to Beijing should pay attention that if you want to ask for directions there, you must say "Dashilanr", otherwise many people will be at a loss if you don't ask for directions according to the pinyin in the dictionary.
There is a saying in old Beijing: "Go to the overpass to see things, and go to Dashilan to buy things." I still remember that when I was a child, I would go to Dashilan to buy new clothes every Chinese New Year. In those years, Dashilan was indeed one of the few commercial centers in Beijing. Today, Dashilan has also ushered in new opportunities with the renovation of Qianmen Street. Like Qianmen Street, this street, which is only 300 meters long, has many time-honored brands. Today, the prosperity of Dashilan is not limited to one street, but includes an area connected by multiple commercial streets such as Grain Store Street, Meishi Street, and Langfang Toutiao. The narrow alleys, signs lined up on both sides, and the sea of people are the characteristics of Dashilan.
With people coming and going, I feel a bit like the crowdedness of my childhood. The former Dashilan seems to have returned.

By Joy |

The Dashilan Street District still retains the "three vertical and nine horizontal" layout of the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. You can see crosstalk performers, overlord helmets and kingfisher headgear, as well as performances by the Deyun Society. You can buy tickets on the spot. You can also see the signatures and handprints of crosstalk performers.

Dashilan has restored the appearance of the early Republic of China. Century-old shops that have been restored to their original state can be seen everywhere, and each store is worth stopping to appreciate.
As far as I can remember, there was a small train on a vacant lot east of Dashilan that was perfect for taking photos!!
Although there are still a lot of people on the main street of Qianmen, as long as you walk east, there will be fewer people, which is especially suitable for us girls who love taking photos to wander around for an afternoon. In addition to the less crowded and beautiful east side, the Beijing Wang in the west is also exciting!
The night view of Dashilan is also great!

After the renovation, Dashilar has lost its original appearance except for the alleys and shops, and has become very commercialized. I personally don't like commercialized historical features, so I'm not very interested in this place. It's still nice to look inside the alleys.

Beijing flavor is a kind of charm. Beijing culture can also be called Beijing culture. In the past, it was a mixture of court culture, scholar-official culture, religious culture, and folk culture. Starting from the Yuan Dynasty, the capital of the country for 700 years, these superior conditions have given Beijing culture a royal style. Beijingers, Beijing dialect, Beijing's environment, customs, and Beijingers' psychological qualities are constantly changing. Today's Beijing is no longer the ten-mile city described by Mr. Lao She. The changes are too great, but the changes have not destroyed the Beijing flavor. Instead, they have greatly enriched the lives of Beijingers and brought more experiences to foreigners.

The reason why I gave it 4 stars is because it is a very famous landmark. Actually, I didn't go in and it looked uninteresting. There is Dicos near the main entrance... There are many small shops inside, which should not be interesting. I came here just to take a photo... Opposite is Xianyukou

When you arrive at Qianmen Street, the widest street is Dashilan, where there are many shops selling food, drinks, old Beijing fabrics, shoes, specialties and handicrafts. There are also many people, so be careful to keep your belongings.

By Chaihua's Flowers |

My early memories of Dashilar are backpacks that cost 5 or 10 yuan each, which were basically disposable products and were easy to get disconnected and fall apart. I still remember the first H&M store in Beijing that had a long queue and made headlines many years ago. It looks very different now, much neater and more beautiful. But it doesn't feel as exciting anymore, I don't know why, hahahaha
Dashilan is a tourist attraction with a lot of old brands, old brands, old brands! It's not exaggerated.
The Donglaishun in Dashilan is very strange. I don't know why it is located in the small commodity specialty street. Or I don't know why the entrance is occupied by various small commodities, all of which are piled up in rows at the Yiwu small commodity market. The two of us from Yiwu walked around and felt so familiar and nostalgic, hahahahahahaha.
Sanqing Garden has many teahouses. I saw a preview of a Deyun Society crosstalk conference in the afternoon. Unfortunately, we can’t even understand the jokes in Guo Degang’s crosstalk, so we just visited the exterior of the theater and left.
It is said that Nei Liansheng's old Beijing cloth shoes are very expensive when sold outside of the city. When you arrive at Dashilan, you can buy a pair. I believe that grandmas would love to wear them.
There are also various time-honored brands such as Ruifengxiang and Goubuli. In short, it is a commercial place with Beijing characteristics. It is recommended to check in when you first arrive in Beijing. It is always crowded with people and has a great atmosphere.

Dashilan is a famous commercial street outside Qianmen. Dashilan Street was originally called Langfang Si Tiao, and it was a prosperous commercial district in history. The Dashilan Street still retains the "three vertical and nine horizontal" layout of the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. The "three vertical" refers to Meishi Street, Zhubaoshi Street and Liangshidian Street; the "nine horizontal" refers to the nine east-west alleys in Dashilan.
