Ditan Park

地坛公园

It is the second largest of the five altars in Beijing. It was the place where emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties offered sacrifices to the "Emperor of the Earth God". It is also the largest existing altar for offering sacrifices to the earth in my country.
·Autumn is the most beautiful season in Ditan Park. The ginkgo trees in the park are golden. Compared with the crowded Diaoyutai Ginkgo Avenue, Ditan Park is less crowded.
The Ditan Book Fair is an annual book fair in Beijing. It has a great influence on readers and has become a popular book fair for the people of Beijing.
Every year during the Spring Festival, a lively temple fair is held at the Temple of Earth. There are also Qing-style earth worship performances at the Temple of Earth, showing the grandeur of the emperor's sacrificial ceremony.

The most worth seeing in Ditan Park is Fangzetan. However, the earth worship ceremony is easy to see during the temple fair during the Spring Festival every year. The temple fair is also the busiest time of Ditan Park and the entertainment center of Beijing during the Spring Festival. Ditan has four entrances: east, south, west and north. It is recommended to choose the South Gate, which is close to the Second Ring Road, convenient for bus and subway (Lama Temple Station), and close to Lama Temple, Guozijian, Taimiao and other attractions. For dining, you can choose Jindingxuan outside the South Gate. During non-temple fairs, half an hour is enough for a tour.

The Temple of Earth is not as famous as the Temple of Heaven. I first knew about the Temple of Earth because of Shi Tiesheng's book "I and the Temple of Earth". I really wanted to go to the Temple of Earth. There are double-decker buses that go directly to the Temple of Earth after leaving the Temple of Heaven.

The Temple of Heaven is a place for worshipping the heavens, and the Temple of Di is naturally a place for worshipping the earth. Although it is not as majestic as the Temple of Heaven, the Temple of Di in autumn is really picturesque, with ginkgo trees everywhere that make you forget where you are.

By Small town |

The temple fair ticket is 10 yuan per ticket, and students can get half price. I arrived fairly early, the park is quite large, and there are many people, but it is not crowded.

This year, Ditan Temple cooperated with the Palace Museum, with more cultural and creative booths, fewer snack stalls, and the parade was cancelled. It was my first time to visit a temple fair, and it was quite different from what I imagined. The things sold were quite expensive, and there were only a few kinds of food. It was not as lively as I imagined.

I originally thought I could spend half a day shopping, but I ended up coming out after about an hour. After coming out, I felt like I had a lot more free time.

Speaking of Ditan, the book that has had the greatest influence on me is naturally "I and Ditan" written by Shi Tiesheng. But when I went there, it was already late autumn, the chrysanthemums had long since withered, but there was a large area of golden ginkgo trees.

Although Ditan Temple is also a royal sacrificial site, for some reason, the current Ditan Temple does give people a more down-to-earth feeling. The Temple of Heaven is mostly visited by tourists from all over the world. However, the Ditan Temple is mostly visited by local people who play chess, listen to music, and play with birds. Compared with the Temple of Heaven, Ditan Temple has another major feature, which is that there are many ancient trees, most of which are over 300 years old. There are cypress, pagoda tree, jujube tree, elm tree, ginkgo tree, etc.

November is the best time to enjoy autumn in Ditan Park. The ginkgo leaves are golden and the maple leaves are just the right shade of red. Ginkgo leaves and maple leaves are two different beauties. The beauty of ginkgo leaves lies in the overall beauty, while the beauty of maple leaves lies in the details. To appreciate ginkgo leaves, you need to stand on the side of the Ginkgo Avenue and extend your sight far away to feel the brilliance of golden light. It is a shocking beauty of "golden scales open to the sun". To appreciate maple leaves, you only need to stand under a maple tree and carefully examine the deep red leaves. It is a delicate beauty of "delicate dice and red beans".

I watched Shi Tiesheng's "I and the Temple of Earth" on the subway on the way there, and was deeply touched. I was a little disappointed when I arrived at the Temple of Earth, because there were not many people and it didn't look like a tourist attraction at all. I wanted to walk in and leave. As a result, I was attracted by a large group of pigeons. The pigeons were not afraid of people at all and would jump on my hands to peck at them. I bought some pigeon food and gave them some bread to eat. There were also many people around me feeding the pigeons. There is a very strange phenomenon that the pigeons will fly up to the sky in groups for a period of time, then circle around and come down to find food. The dust raised by a large group flying up to the sky still couldn't stop me from taking pictures with them. After all, there is basically no park in Guangdong that provides such a good opportunity to get in close contact with these animals. I really want to live next to the Temple of Earth so that I can see them often.

By Miss Shuxian |

I saw two rows of beautiful ginkgo trees. There were not many people around, but I couldn't move away because it was so beautiful. All the ginkgo leaves had turned yellow, and they slowly fell when the wind blew. It was really a textbook autumn when people were among them. I spent more than two hours playing with just two rows of ginkgo trees. You can see how much I loved them. I was super satisfied. This was the biggest surprise of the day.

Ditan Park is the most beautiful in autumn. There is a Ginkgo Avenue in Ditan Park, with more than 200 ginkgo trees and various autumn leaf forests. Most of them were planted in the 1950s. This place used to be a nursery. Although it is called Ginkgo Avenue, the road is not very deep and wide. There are not many tourists in the morning, which shows a lot of space for taking photos. I saw a monk here with his brows lowered and his hands clasped together. I don’t know what he is praying for. There are crushed ginkgo leaves all over the ground beside him. It should be the best light now. The sun shines through the golden leaves, making the colors very layered and the autumn colors intoxicating.

The Temple of Earth should be a historic site, built during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty, around 1530. Emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties worshipped the Earth God here. In ancient times, the Heavenly God was called Ling, and the Earth God was called Qi. The Fangze Altar and the Imperial Prayer Room we see now are both places for worshipping the gods. The last time the emperor worshipped the Earth God was in the 33rd year of the Guangxu period. After the collapse of the imperial system, it was opened as a park during the period of the Beiyang government in the 1920s. The current building was rebuilt during the Tongzhi period. It has not changed from the original appearance, and has been continuously renovated and looks good.

Located in the north of Beijing, Ditan Park is one of the four major altars (sun, moon, heaven and earth) where the emperors worshipped in ancient times. The area of Ditan Park is second only to the Temple of Heaven Park. It hosts the largest Spring Festival temple fair in Beijing every year. In recent years, Beijing's book exhibitions have also been held here.

I went there for Mr. Shi Tiesheng's "I and the Altar of Earth". The most distinctive trees in it are those from the Ming and Qing dynasties. Many of them are over 400 years old, which gives them a sense of history.

It is also a large park. There is a free area with many locals. If you pass by, I recommend going there.

I used to know about Ditan from the writings of the writer Shi Tiesheng. His article "I and Ditan" was a textbook when we were in middle school. Now I have the opportunity to take a closer look at it.

It was already evening when we arrived at Ditan. The dim sky set off the old walls of Ditan, creating a sense of decadence and silence.

By Candy |

How many people came to Ditan Park because of the article "I and Ditan". Walking into Ditan Park, it has long been a good place for the elderly to do morning exercises. Sitting under the trees, I enjoy the quietness here and chat with friends about work and life. Looking at the group of elderly people sitting together playing cards, looking at the elderly couple massaging each other, looking at the white pigeons that are not afraid of people pecking calmly, I have been to Ditan Park.

According to the information, the Ditan Ginkgo trees usually bloom in late October to early November. If you want to see ginkgo in Beijing, one says Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, another says Sanlitun Embassy District, but they all say Ditan Park, so I chose Ditan Park. The time may be a few days early, and the ginkgo trees are half yellow and half green. The Ditan Ginkgo trees are said to be very old and tall, so you have to use a telephoto lens to take close-ups. In addition, the sky was cloudy, so the ginkgo trees were not very colorful.

November is the ginkgo season in Ditan Park. I went to see the ginkgo trees, but I felt like crying! Where is the ginkgo avenue? Where are the ginkgo trees that were supposed to fall with the wind? Where are they? They are all gone, gone, gone! Why didn’t I catch up again? Everything is gone, just bare!

The ticket is 2 yuan, and only cash is accepted. You can see many people doing fitness exercises and dancing. The most wonderful thing is that you will encounter a senior citizen choir, with songbooks hung on trees and spread out on stones, and they sing happily with an electronic keyboard. There is also a senior citizen band, which is truly the beauty accumulated over the years.

The ginkgo trees are beautiful in mid-November, and the red walls and golden tiles are also beautiful. The people of the capital are very happy.

It's worth going there in autumn. Haha, it was a joke. I was supposed to go to the Temple of Heaven but ended up at the Temple of Ditan Park.

By Mrs. Pan |

It was my first time here, but I was surprised. There weren't many people, mainly grandpas and aunts who were exercising and listening to music, and there were also some tourists.

There are many red walls and green tiles in Ditan Park, which is not inferior to the Forbidden City. The sunshine was great that day, and the shadows of the leaves were printed on the red walls, which felt particularly unreal.

Ditan Park is the best place to view ginkgo trees in Beijing. Enter from the west gate of the park and walk towards the north gate. You will see a lot of ginkgo trees, which is suitable for taking photos.

By Ranger |

There aren't many non-local tourists in the park, most of them are Beijing locals. This attraction is definitely not as attractive as the Temple of Heaven, and it really doesn't have much interest, just like an ordinary park.

By Bixiao |

Also a place for sacrifice, unlike the Temple of Heaven, the Temple of Ditan has a stronger breath of life. There are people doing morning exercises, people strolling around for leisure, a park choir, a stadium, and the bustling life of the world.

By Devil—— |

Now it has become a leisure park for local citizens, and many locals take walks and exercise here.

Huangji Temple is the main building here, displaying some exhibits that introduce the characteristics of Beijing's ancient buildings. The beams on the roof are quite old.

There are two unique features in Ditan Park: pigeons and ginkgo trees

The most spectacular scene is that almost every pigeon in the flock flies up in a horizontal position.

The Ditan Ginkgo trees did not disappoint. The best time to take photos of the ginkgo trees is in the early morning or evening when the sun is shining brightly.

Although the Temple of Ditan is not as magnificent as the Temple of Heaven, it is very spacious and grand inside. Today's Ditan Park is no longer in ruins. The buildings are neatly constructed and the fallen leaves in the woods have been cleaned up. There is a unique atmosphere of peace and comfort here. I think, I believe, that Ditan Park also has a soul.

Compared to the grandness of the Temple of Heaven, the Temple of Earth is simple, with very few tourists. I stayed there for a long time but didn't see many waves of tourists. When the sunset gradually dyed the sky red, everything seemed empty and quiet.

By Jiangwu |

After paying two yuan for the ticket, I entered the Temple of Earth and was immediately plunged into silence and the sound of birds and flowers, keeping the bustle outside out. Walking on the bluestone road, the green pines on the roadside were lined up in rows, almost covering the sky above, with a gap through the blue sky, alternating between blue and green. Every few steps there was a row of benches, a place for people to rest. Flocks of magpies flew around on the branches, and when pedestrians walked by, they scattered a group of noisy birds. The sunlight penetrated the gaps between the dense branches, forming beams of light, shining on the slightly dark forest.

Shi Tiesheng said of Ditan Park, "I have been under every tree, and my wheel tracks are on almost every meter of its grass." Hundreds of years have passed, and Ditan Park is no longer solemn and elegant, nor is it desolate and secluded. Instead, it is an approachable street park. Most of the people who come here are uncles and grandmas, some wear martial arts uniforms to play with sticks, some wear Latin dance clothes to dance Yangko, some play gateball on the green grass, some write calligraphy with brushes like mops, some sing Beijing opera with exquisite bird cages, some play the black cat sheriff on the pipa, some dance around the bonfire in the long alley, some fan their grandchildren with cattail leaves, and some play chess against the cinnabar wall in white vests.

You need to buy a separate ticket to visit the Fangze Altar and the Imperial God Room. The author thinks that it is enough to watch from a distance, so he did not enter. The Imperial God Room is a place for worshiping the Emperor of the Earth God, the Five Mountains, the Five Towns, the Four Seas, the Four Rivers, and the Five Lingshan Gods; the Fangze Altar is an altar for worshiping the Emperor of the Earth God. The architectural pattern is somewhat similar to the Circular Mound Altar, but it is much less popular.

When I was in junior high school, I loved reading Shi Tiesheng. I always felt that his writings had a sense of vicissitudes that even young people with little experience could feel. In fact, it is not quite accurate to describe it as a sense of vicissitudes, because to be precise, it should be a physical feeling, such as when I see delicious food, I feel happy and then imagine the pleasure of taste buds. Seeing Shi Tiesheng's writings makes me feel like I am standing under the red walls of the capital late at night, listening to an old man who can't recognize his face playing a hoarse and tuneless suona. I didn't know how to describe it at the time, but now I guess that this may be the texture of the text.

All the feelings I had before were just imaginations. Only when I actually stood in Ditan Park, looking against the light at the two tall red doors and the two rows of trees standing quietly on the other side of the doors, could I really experience this feeling.

1. I went to Ditan Park largely because of Shi Tiesheng. Yes, it was such a cliché and such a rustic reason.

2. Ditan Park is a relatively unpopular "scenic spot" in Beijing. It doesn't really have anything special to see, but its value lies in the fact that there are few people and it's comfortable. It's really comfortable to stay in Ditan! The greening rate in the park is very high. It's not just a numerical greening rate, but mainly because of the high quality. Almost all of them are old trees and towering trees. Under the trees are green lawns. The bright sunlight shines through the branches of the trees, illuminating a small piece of lawn. There are birds above my head occasionally chirping, and then they fly away. Staying in this park really makes me not want to go to the crowded Summer Palace, the Forbidden City, and Badaling. I also understand that only such an environment can Shi Tiesheng write an article.

3. I went there in spring, and the cherry blossoms and peach blossoms in the park were in full bloom. Moreover, after the heating haze period, the sky was very blue and the sun was very bright. It was the most comfortable day of my trip to Beijing.

There are many kinds of snacks, but not many delicious ones. If you are hungry, you can eat fried chicken and sausage on the side. There are also many kinds of New Year goods, some from old Beijing, and some from outside. The prices of the same things are not exactly the same. If you want to buy, it is recommended to compare several stores.

Ditan Park is very boring in winter. The ticket to the Imperial Room is just for display.

In fact, going to Ditan Park (or Ditan Stadium) to play should be a regular schedule for many children in Dongcheng every weekend when they were young.

As a child from Xicheng, I would go to Ditan Park two or three times a year, one because of the Ditan Temple Fair during the Spring Festival, and the other because of the Ditan Book Fair twice in spring and autumn.

I felt like an old man, walking around the park on a Monday afternoon. We were playing with the equipment in the fitness equipment area with the old men and women, and then I found that I was not good at anything, so I just quietly patted the ginkgo trees.

It's just an ordinary park, but it's actually famous for the Ditan Temple Fair.
