Jingxi Ancient Road

京西古道

The Jingxi Ancient Road is based on the "Xishan Road" as the main line, connecting various branch roads running from north to south, of which the Central Road, South Road and North Road are its main components. Ancient war smoke, ethnic exchanges, religious activities, city building and border defense, as well as countless magical stories such as the ancient road, the west wind, and the skinny horse are scattered or left on both sides of the ancient road. It is a concrete symbol of the economy and culture of that era, from which we can deeply feel the changes of the times and the footsteps of history. The Jingxi Ancient Road has a history of thousands of years, and the profound cultural heritage it contains and the splendid Yongding River Basin culture overlap to shine.

[Yuhe Avenue] is also known as Xishan Avenue Middle Road. It starts from Mayu Village in Shijingshan District in the east, crosses the Hunhe River (Yongding River) and enters Dayu Village, passing Dongxinfang, Quanmen, Sunqiao, Tianqiaofu, Mengjia Hutong, Guanting, Fengkouan, Huangshigang, and ends at Wangpingkou. The total length is about 27.5 kilometers.
Xishan Avenue, also known as the North Road of Xishan Ancient Road, basically runs along the Yongding River Valley and is the oldest ancient road in western Beijing. Xishan Avenue starts from Sanjiadian in the east, crosses the Yongding River, passes Liuliqu Village, crosses Choureling, passes Xiehejian, Shuiyuzui, crosses Niujiaoling, passes Qiaoerjian, Magezhuang, Shiguyan, Seshufen, and ends at Wangping Village.
[Xintan Ancient Road] refers to the ancient road from Xincheng to Tanzhe Temple. Xincheng was formerly known as Xincheng, a ferry on the Yongding River. It was destroyed by floods in the Qing Dynasty and was divided into two villages, East Xincheng and West Xincheng. Xintan Ancient Road runs from Xincheng through Hegezhuang, Taiqing Temple, Wanfo Hall, over Hongmiaoling, through Sangyu, and reaches Tanzhe Temple.
【Wangping Ancient Road】is composed of Xishan Avenue, Yuhe Ancient Road, Yongding River Bank Ancient Road and some branch ancient roads. Among them, Yuhe Ancient Road is basically well preserved and has a history of about a thousand years; there is also the North Road of Xishan Avenue, which is about two thousand years old and is the most representative cultural heritage. The spectacular Jingxi Ancient Road converges at Wangpingkou, which is called the "mountain crossing main road". Wangping Ancient Road is the most beautiful and rich part of Jingxi Ancient Road.
[Western Beijing Ancient Road] consists of three main avenues. In addition to Wangping Ancient Road, there are Pangtan Ancient Road and Lutan Ancient Road connecting Tanzhe Temple, which are relatively well preserved today. You may not be able to imagine what kind of lively scene was around this thousand-year-old temple in the past. Since ancient times, there has been a saying among the people that "Tanzhe Temple came first, and Youzhou City came later."
【Lutan Ancient Road】Starting from Lugou Bridge in the east and ending at Tanzhe Temple in the west, it is one of the southern routes of the Jingxi Ancient Road. Along the way, it passes through Changxindian, Dongwangzuo, Shawo Village, Xinzhuang, Dahuichang, Shifo Village, and reaches Jietai Temple. After crossing Xifengling, it passes through Lujiatan, Nanxinfang, and Pingyuan Village to reach Tanzhe Temple.
【Yuhe Ancient Road】Starts from Dayu Village in the east and ends at Wangpingkou in the west. The section of the ancient road from Dayu to Quanmen has disappeared, while the section from Quanmen to Dahanling Pass is well preserved. If you walk more than 100 meters southwest of Fengkouan Pass, you can see the shocking "hoof pit wonder". On the rock that is only 13 meters long and 1.5 meters wide, there are more than 100 hoof pits of varying sizes and depths.

The best preserved and most complete Jingxi Ancient Road is about 6 kilometers from Shuiyuzui Village to Luopo Village, with a straight rise of 200-300 meters. My travel notes [Jingxi Ancient Road (I) (II)] have an introduction.

Located in Wangping Town, Mentougou, it was an important transportation route for transporting coal from Beijing to the Western Hills in the old days. Camel caravans, mules and horses have left deep hoof prints in the valley. When the west wind blows, it seems as if you can see the camels and mules carrying heavy coal passing by in groups.

A line from a poem by Wang Wei, a Tang Dynasty poet, is also very appropriate here: After the rain in the empty mountains, the weather turns to autumn late in the evening. The bright moon shines among the pines, and the clear spring flows over the rocks.

Very close to downtown Beijing, great scenic spot! A place I want to bring friends back here!

There are many routes of the Jingxi Ancient Road distributed in the deep mountains of Mentougou with beautiful scenery.

Green water and green mountains in Mentougou, the ancient road along the Yongding River~

Walking into the Jingxi Ancient Road, you can see horse hoof prints of varying depths, as if telling the story of the business road of that era.

Suitable for literary and artistic people to come here to create ^^

I think it is still worth visiting because the original natural scenery is still there. After all, the impact of commercialization is too great now, and we need the real nature, right? The glass plank road here is not very long or wide, but it is enough to see the scenery. If you want to try it, you can come here first to feel it. If you don’t feel it at all, you can go to the big glass plank road! There are also horse tooth dates and pears picked by locals for you to buy and taste.

After arriving at the scenic spot, I hesitated for a long time whether to drive in, because none of the guides mentioned this. Later I found that it was the right decision to drive in, because it was super big inside, and the slope was very steep in the mountains. If we walked, we would not be able to see it all with our physical strength at that time. I felt like I had traveled through time, a down-and-out poet leading a skinny horse, a bumpy road, and a confused future. But if the poet was not down-and-out, how could he write poems that have been passed down for thousands of years? Someone told me that the poems that move you must be written by the poet who is ten times more sad than you. The road is a bit steep. You must get out of the ancient road to Cuandixia before the sun sets.

Let me tell you about my feelings when I went there in October. The weather was bad when I went there, and it was drizzling. I felt quite good, but the subsequent events were a bit infuriating. The ticket is 27. You can drive up or walk up. It is recommended to walk up. You can see the traces of horse hoof nests all the way and experience the hardships of the merchants back then. There is a Guandi Temple inside. After we visited it, we came out and prepared to go up along the steps. Unexpectedly, someone came out of the hut and said that he wanted to check the ticket and said: This is the road to the glass plank road. You can't go up without a ticket. But there is no sign here saying that this is to the glass plank road. We had no choice but to come down, and then the uncle said: The door is not open on rainy days. Then he said: Are you going or not, I will ask for you. I picked up the phone casually and asked, and a few seconds later said: Come and buy a ticket, go up. It was still raining, and I thought of his sentence: The door is not open on rainy days. So we said: No, I won't go. He started yelling and cursing. It seemed like we had to buy a ticket. After a few shouts, we left. Once again, because there was no sign, we walked out of the scenic area.

It took 3 hours in total and the ticket was checked 4 times. The sign was not clear and it was a rip off.

When we chose the entrance to the Jingxi Ancient Road, it was very close to the former residence of Lima Zhiyuan. It was very good. We took the children around and read the poem again: The ancient road, the west wind, the thin horse, the small bridge, the flowing water, the people, the setting sun, the heartbroken people at the end of the world! The glass plank road of the ancient road is not open to the public, so we can only see the horse hoof prints, but the children are still very excited and have learned a lot. We are very tired when we walk alone, but the people in the past walked with horses and carried goods on their shoulders. It was really not easy.

After lunch, we drove 40 kilometers to the "Beijing West Ancient Road" on National Highway 109. It is rare to see scenic spots with no cars in the parking lot. The 300+ hoofprints of Niujiaoling are clearly visible, witnessing the prosperity of the past.

The old road, the west wind, the thin horse, the years are wasted

The ancient road is well preserved, and subsequent artificially constructed scenic spots are not recommended.

Travel thousands of miles during the day and walk thousands of rivers and rocks at night. Carry the black gold treasure and exchange it for Beijing money. Go out from the side door on the second floor of the Ancient Road Museum and you will see the 0498 military theme bar. The computer is broken, and only these photos are left.

By Nana |

It turns out that this is the origin of the withered vines, old trees, crows, small bridges, flowing water and people. Do you know why you have to walk thousands of miles after reading thousands of books? It is completely different from what you imagined, okay?

The Jingxi Ancient Road Scenic Area is located in Shuiyuzui Village, Miaofengshan Town, Mentougou District, Beijing. It is a good hiking route with many historical sites along the way.

The middle section of the Jingxi Ancient Road, Yuhe Ancient Road. This section of the ancient road has left deep marks after hundreds of years of grinding, and history has settled here! It is suitable for hiking, and people who like quiet mountain roads and no noisy people can enjoy their holidays together!

A thin horse on the ancient road in the west wind, a small bridge over the flowing water and a house... The ancient road under the city wall is left with the footprints of time.

The Jingxi Ancient Road is located in Mentougou, Beijing. It is mainly composed of commercial roads, military roads, incense roads and other ancient roads. They are interconnected, like a large network across the entire Mentougou area. There are many historical sites on both sides of the ancient road. Although hundreds of years have passed, the ancient charm is still there.

I went there during the Qingming Festival in 2012. I signed up for the activity on China-TravelNote. I can only say that those people who often hike are awesome. My classmates and I were far behind them and didn't even dare to stop to drink water. Anyway, we walked all day and were very tired. As for the scenery, the trees were not green at that time, so there was nothing to see. But later I saw the photos taken by my colleagues in the summer, and it was still pretty beautiful. Ma Ti Wo is worth a visit.

The Jingxi Ancient Road Scenic Area is located in Jiuyuan Village, Mentougou District, Beijing. There are direct buses to the city. The former residence of Ma Zhiyuan, a famous Yuan Dynasty opera writer, is here.

The Jingxi Ancient Road is like a big network that stretches across the entire Mentougou area. There are many long roads. These ancient roads mainly include commercial roads, military roads, and incense roads. They are interconnected. Among them, the commercial roads have the most historical relics. After hundreds of years of history, although they appear dilapidated and decadent, the ancient charm is still there. You can choose any small section to walk through by yourself.

It is a good place for hiking, but you must go with a professional team or a guide. We got lost if we went by ourselves. The scenery is still good.

By Reeds |

There is a military bar on the Jingxi Ancient Road, which is quite interesting. Although there is no sign of alcohol, several elderly people in the tour group said that the military bar is the highlight of the trip. On this point, we have reached a consensus across the age gap, haha~

The entrance to the Jingxi Ancient Road in Mentougou, from here you can go up the mountain, and you have to pay a fee, 20 yuan per person. I have nothing to do but exercise, and I have to pay money, so I turned around and went home.

By Always have you |

The Jingxi Ancient Road refers to the approximately 1,500-meter-long mountain road from Dongluopo Village via Niujiaoling to Shuiyuzui. The ticket price is 25 yuan per person, and the price has just increased during the May Day holiday this year.

By Settle down the impetuous |

The Jingxi Ancient Road carries the history of Beijing and is also a beautiful place. I still remember the days when I camped there with my friends. It brought us wonderful memories, the silhouettes under the sunset, the fun in the tents; the horse hoof prints on the cement ground seemed to bring us back to the era of the clattering of hooves. Oh, yes, the artistic conception of "small bridges, flowing water and people's homes" that I particularly like is actually here, Ma Zhiyuan's former residence.

By Hellofish |

Located in Shuiyuzui Village, Miaofengshan Town, Mentougou, the ancient roads are all stone slopes. It takes 40 minutes to walk to Niujiaoling Pass, which was once the first pass out of Beijing. There are many horse hoof holes on the stones on the ground here, which are the horse hoof prints left by the horse team in the past. It is very magical. There is a glass plank road not far ahead. Although it is not long, the glass is very transparent, so it is quite scary. Another half an hour walk will take you to Jiuyuan Village to visit Ma Zhiyuan's former residence. The total play time is more than three hours. For details, please see my travel notes: "#My 2016#21 trips-from Beijing Suburbs to the United States" http://www.mafengwo.cn/i/6492419.html

The ancient road has a steep slope and twists left and right. It is the famous "Eighteen Bends on the Road". It is about 3 miles long and 4 to 6 meters wide. If you are traveling light, you can take a shortcut to save a lot of distance (I did this). The ancient road is mostly paved with large slabs of stone. To enhance the firmness of the road, a row of slabs of stone protrude from the road surface every 1 to 1.5 meters, so that the paved stones will not move along the slope, and pedestrians and livestock will also have a place to "hold their feet" to prevent slipping. On both sides of the road, there are fences in some places.

2013.10.06 Beijing Mentougou Jingxi Ancient Road Circle Gate-Wangping Village

I started walking at noon and it was a little late. I jogged all the way to Wangping Village to catch the last Khan on his way back.
