Mutianyu Great Wall: Located in Huairou District, Beijing, 73 kilometers away from Beijing city, it is a 5A scenic spot. It is very convenient to take the Mu bus from Dongzhimen to the scenic spot. I specifically picked a day with great weather in autumn. There may be only a few days of such weather in the capital every year. There is a scene every five steps on the Great Wall. There are really few foreign scenery that can compare with it. No wonder it is one of the wonders of the world. I walked from platform 1 to platform 20. The scenery on both sides is different. The direction with a small platform number is steep and dangerous. The direction with a large platform number is gentler and the scenery is vast. Although it is much farther than the Badaling Great Wall, Mutianyu Great Wall has no group tourists and relatively fewer tourists than Badaling, so I chose Mutianyu, where I can enjoy the scenery without being unable to enjoy it because of overcrowding. After using it on site, I felt that it was still necessary, because it was really a bit far to walk up. The shuttle bus takes about 10 minutes, and then the short shuttle bus in the park goes to the cable car point. The cable car takes about 10 minutes to reach the halfway point of the Great Wall. When you get off, you will reach the entrance to the main scenic area of ​​Mutianyu Great Wall. You have to rely on yourself to continue going up.

It is a good decision to choose Mutianyu. It is impossible to say that there is no one at all, but there are indeed not many tourists, so the tour is very comfortable and it is also very comfortable to take pictures. You don’t have to look for yourself in the crowd. If you wait a little, you can still take pictures when there is no one.

If you want to walk slowly and enjoy the scenery along the way, a 2-hour round trip is not enough, so we brought some simple dry food.

Of course, if you have enough energy and can go up and down quickly, you can also have lunch after getting off the Great Wall. There are many restaurants after getting off the Great Wall, and the prices are still reasonable.

It is recommended to take the cable car or ropeway to the 14th floor before starting to climb to save your energy. The ropeway is open, unlike the cable car which is closed. At that time, I thought the ropeway was the same as the cable car, but when I saw it was open, I was really scared. I closed my eyes the whole way.

There are really few people at Mutianyu Great Wall in winter, and most of them are foreigners.

When climbing the Great Wall in winter, the north wind must be howling. Mijiu and I were both very nervous. We wore a lot of base clothes, warm clothes, cashmere sweaters, and even put on heat pads. When we went out after being fully equipped, we felt like a spring breeze blowing in the cold wind.

There are indeed not many tourists at Mutianyu Great Wall, and most of them are foreigners; the slope is relatively gentle, suitable for both the elderly and children, and you can meet many families traveling with children along the way.

Looking out along the parapet, there are overlapping mountains, dry trees, and messy grass. The scene that should have been desolate has a hint of simplicity and tranquility because of the warm sun.

We also met many cats on the Great Wall. They half-closed their eyes in the sun and remained indifferent to the spotlights that kept coming. The cable car arrived at the No. 14 beacon tower. The scenery behind was even more wonderful. We were greeted by the Han flag fluttering in the wind (it was really hot under the sun, and I couldn't stop sweating even after taking off my coat~)

About toilets: There are several toilets after entering the scenic area. There is also a toilet near the No. 14 enemy building when the cable car arrives. There is no toilet behind the No. 14 enemy building.

As for dining, there are several Chinese and Western restaurants and shopping areas near the entrance of the scenic area.

The last time I came to Beijing, I didn’t climb the Great Wall, which left me with some regrets. This time I specially chose to come to Beijing again in autumn. The cable car journey took 6 minutes, from the cable car departure point near the gate to the 14th beacon tower. It is said that the best scenery is concentrated after the 14th beacon tower. After getting off the cable car, the mountains were full of autumn colors. The Guangdong people who had not seen so many autumn leaves for a long time were very excited. They immediately picked up their cameras and enjoyed the scenery of Mutianyu all the way. Although they had not been to Badaling and could not compare which one was more spectacular, for those who just wanted to find a place with fewer tourists to enjoy the scenery of the Great Wall, they were very glad to choose Mutianyu. It happened that Beijing was windy that day, the air was very good, and the visibility was very high. I walked all the way to Haohanpo, and my fear of heights was triggered. [Part 2: Tickets]: Mutianyu Scenic Area involves three tickets, 1: The round-trip shuttle bus to the scenic area is 15 yuan. If you don't take the shuttle bus, you have to walk 3 kilometers up the mountain, which is very tiring. You can avoid it by taking the Mutianyu bus. 2: Great Wall tickets: 45 yuan purchased at the window, half price for children, students and the elderly, free for those under 1.2 meters, and free for the elderly over 65 years old. 3: Cable car tickets. Mutianyu Cable Car is divided into two companies, a box cable car round-trip, and a ropeway & slide. The price is the same, 100 yuan for a one-way trip and 120 yuan for a round-trip trip. [Three: Climbing the City]: The highest point of Mutianyu Great Wall is at the 20th beacon tower. After passing the ticket gate of the Great Wall, tourists have three ways to go up the mountain. 1st: Take a two-way cable car to the 14th beacon tower. Then walk 6 beacon towers to the highest point, which took more than 1 hour. 2nd: Take the cable car up the mountain, arrive at the 6th beacon tower, walk 14 beacon towers to the highest point, which takes 2 hours and requires greater physical strength. 3rd: Walk up the mountain, about 500 steps to the 6th beacon tower, and then walk 14 beacon towers up the mountain. The physical requirements are the greatest. Basically, it is recommended to choose the first way if you are with the elderly and children, or people with average physical strength. After reaching the highest point, you can continue upwards and enter the ancient Great Wall section, which is the most charming section of the Great Wall.

[IV: Dining]: After coming down from the Great Wall, there are three restaurants on the mountain to choose from. 1st: Yisonglou Restaurant in the scenic area, Chinese food tastes good, about 60 yuan per person. 2nd: Subway Restaurant: Western coffee and hamburgers, 50 yuan per person. 3rd: Youshunju Farmhouse Restaurant: Farmhouse dishes are about 40 yuan per person.

I have been to Badaling Great Wall before, and I have always had the following three points: too many people, heavy restoration, and strong commercialism, which are not what I want. This time I plan to experience Mutianyu Great Wall, which is said to be the world's number one Great Wall. First of all, let's talk about transportation. I booked the scenic area through bus "Mu Bus" (search "Mu Bus" in China-TravelNote. Enter the store to place an order). Although some people suggest taking bus 916 to Huairou and then reversing to H23, I think it is inconvenient. First, it is troublesome to reverse, and second, it takes too much time. As a lazy person, I must focus on climbing the Great Wall. It turns out that Mu Bus is very good! The most prominent impression that Mu Bus gave me is that their on-board tour guides are very good. Brother Wang can switch between Chinese and English at will, and he explains the strategies and details of how to visit the Great Wall in great detail, which we have never experienced before.

It took an hour and a half to reach the scenic spot by taking the Mutianyu bus. Taking the Mutianyu bus can save you money by not taking the shuttle bus. According to the plan given by the tour guide, I chose the "West Line of Mutianyu Great Wall Walk". My route was as follows: Beacon Towers 14-20, then return to Beacon Tower 14 and take the cable car down the mountain.

Let me talk about my experience on the west line. It takes about 3.5-4 hours to walk all the way. It is suitable for people who exercise regularly. If you are not physically fit, it is good to try to walk to the 20th. I personally think that this journey can be divided into three parts:

The first section is from the 14th beacon tower to the 18th beacon tower after getting off the cable car. This is the "sightseeing Great Wall". It is characterized by beautiful scenery, many tourists, and a relatively gentle slope. Most of the tours will be concentrated in this section.

The second section is from Beacon Tower No. 19 to No. 20. This is a section of the "Heroic Great Wall" characterized by a high slope and a very long distance. It should be the longest beacon tower in the entire Great Wall. I was so tired that I had to rest twice in the middle. Finally, I climbed to Beacon Tower No. 20 and became a hero.

The third section is Beacon Tower No. 21 to No. 25. This is a section of the "real Great Wall" characterized by "restoring the old as it was". This is my favorite section of the Great Wall. The ancient Great Wall still retains a sense of vicissitudes of history. There are no tourists around. You can feel your intimate contact with the ancient Great Wall and feel the heaviness of traveling through history.

The whole process took more than 4 hours. I was very satisfied when I went down the mountain. I went to Subway restaurant to have a cup of coffee, eat a hamburger, and gaze at the Great Wall in the distance. Time passed so quickly. At 3 o'clock in the afternoon, we took the Mu bus back to the city and arrived at the Hong Kong and Macao Center at about 4:30. It ended a happy trip. Generally speaking, Mutianyu Great Wall is very enjoyable to watch. From the perspective of tourism experience, Mutianyu is less crowded and quiet, especially the ancient Great Wall is very charming and worth experiencing!

I bought a round trip ticket for Mutianyu Bus online. It turned out to be a very correct choice. After gathering at the designated location at 7:30 in the morning, I got on the bus and set off directly from downtown Beijing to Mutianyu Great Wall. The journey took an hour and a half. Because the Great Wall has not been completely repaired, it is impossible to climb from the foot of the Great Wall to the top of the Great Wall. You can choose to walk, take the ropeway or the cable car. Walking is an option that only mountaineering enthusiasts or people with plenty of physical strength would choose. I basically ignored it. Finally, considering the issue of safety, we chose the cable car to go back and forth. Currently, the open length of Mutianyu Great Wall is 5.4 kilometers, with 20 peaks. We took the cable car directly to Peak 14 and then climbed up, and walked back to Peak 20. The middle is about one kilometer, so the round trip is more than three kilometers. If you haven't been to the Great Wall, you are not a true man. Climbing the Great Wall, you can better appreciate the hard work and wisdom of the ancient working people. The Great Wall is also a very great project today, but in ancient times there were no such equipment and all the work was carried up bit by bit by manpower. It was really great and hard. Looking at every brick of the Great Wall, we can't imagine how the working people at that time carried it up and repaired it. The travel notes really didn't cheat people. There are relatively fewer people at Mutianyu Great Wall, and there are also many foreign tourists.

I did a lot of research on transportation to Mutianyu Great Wall, and finally I was lazy and chose Mutianyu Bus, with a round-trip ticket price of ¥80.

The Ginkgo Trail is where the Mutianyu shuttle bus is located. There is still a distance from the shuttle bus to the entrance of the Great Wall. It is not recommended to walk unless you have amazing physical strength...

The cable car is closest to the highest point, Beacon Tower No. 20. After arriving at Beacon Tower No. 20, you can continue to explore the ancient Great Wall section of Mutianyu Great Wall.

Climbing the Mutianyu Great Wall is equivalent to climbing a 50-story building. Because I had a clear understanding of my physical strength, I chose to take the cable car up and down and directly to the 14th Beacon Tower.

Because I was traveling with my mother, I chose the most traditional cable car.

The steps of the No. 19-20 beacon towers were too high and required the use of hands and feet, so we just looked at them from a distance and returned the same way. It was less than 1:00 p.m. when we exited the ticket gate.

There are relatively few Chinese people at Mutianyu Great Wall. Except for a group of students, most of the people there are foreigners.

Mutianyu Great Wall is 73 kilometers away from the city center and there are special tourist buses that go directly there.

When passing by the village at the foot of the Great Wall, I found that the scenery there was very nice. If you have a car or have plenty of time and want to stay there for one night, you can consider driving there by yourself.

However, we were short on time and had a heavy workload, so we chose the convenient and fast Mu bus.

[Flights] There are two departure times: 8:00 and 10:00. There are many buses in each trip, and you need to book tickets one day in advance. The last bus of Mu Bus is at 18:00, which is just right for taking photos of the sunset, so I chose them. Other buses don’t have such late trips. The return trip is a continuous cycle, and it will leave when it is full. Therefore, you only need to return to Mu Bus House before 18:00 to wait for the last bus. If you come back early, you can also leave early. In short, it is convenient for everyone to arrange their time freely.

[Cost] The bus ticket, entrance ticket, shuttle bus, and cable car ticket cost 240, which was a good deal. It also saved me the trouble of buying my own tickets, which was very worry-free. Later, I booked their buffet lunch through the tour guide on the bus. Although the taste was ordinary, it was very convenient for lazy people because I didn't have to spend time queuing up in the scenic area to find food. The terrain from the 6th to the 16th watchtower is relatively flat, which means that it is actually very tiring. I was exhausted when I climbed to the 15th and couldn't climb anymore. The scenery along the way is really amazing, beautiful, too beautiful. It's a pity that we went there a little late, so the red leaves had turned yellow and we didn't see the red all over the mountains.

Going down the mountain is a slide, just like a children's slide, a little bit exciting and tense. There are people and loudspeakers on both sides of the slide to remind you to be careful, so it is very safe.

The bus will depart at 3pm, so you can only go up and down the mountain in time if you choose public transportation, unless you drive yourself. This day was very tiring (I felt that my legs and feet no longer belonged to me) but also very happy.

It is recommended to take a shuttle bus or cable car (otherwise it will waste too much energy). It is better to reserve two hours from the cable car to the top (because you will lose your fighting spirit if you rest too long). If you take a lot of photos, add more time accordingly.

At the end, there is a staircase with an angle of more than 60 degrees, which requires the use of hands and feet. It is recommended to turn around and go down backwards.

It is recommended to climb to the top at 3 or 4 pm so that the sunset photos will be clearer. The exposure at noon is really difficult to adjust.

1. I booked an 8 a.m. bus to Munich, and on Friday night I found an accommodation nearby that was 700 meters walk from the boarding point, so I didn't have to catch the subway too early. There was also a McDonald's nearby, so I could buy breakfast in the morning (please praise my cleverness). However, the accommodations nearby that cost less than 300 yuan were really lousy, and the hotels didn't even have air conditioning. I suggest you book an economy chain hotel that costs more than 400 yuan.



2. Time arrangement: gather at Hang Seng Bank, 50 meters to the right of Exit C of Dongsishitiao Station, before 8 o'clock, arrive at the ticket office at about 10 o'clock, start queuing for the cable car at 10:30, start climbing the Great Wall at 11 o'clock, climb to Beacon Tower No. 20 at 12 o'clock, have lunch at this high point to replenish energy 😄, start the return journey at 12:30, arrive at the cable car entrance at 13 o'clock, walk to Beacon Tower No. 13 for a while, get back to the cable car entrance at 13:45, take the cable car to the foot of the mountain at 14 o'clock, get back to the car to rest for ten minutes and then return to the city.



3. Cost: Round trip bus ticket is 80, entrance ticket is 40, round trip cable car is 120, and the shuttle bus is free.

Another advantage of Mubus is that it waives the 15 yuan shuttle bus fee. They have a cooperation with the park and waive this fee, which is not bad.



4. Take the Great Wall route: After the cable car goes up the mountain, you will reach the No. 14 beacon tower. Then go left and walk to the No. 20 beacon tower. Go uphill first, then go downhill to take the cable car. This way you won’t be too tired. If you go to the right, you will go downhill first and then uphill, which will be very tiring.



5. Lunch arrangement: In order to climb the Great Wall with light luggage, you should bring 500 ml of water and bread, but not too much. The road will be very sunny, so you don’t need to prepare too many snacks. It is more practical to leave time for the scenery.



6. Stop on the return trip: We were supposed to stop at Dongsishitiao subway station, but due to the military parade, we changed the stop to Shaoyaoju subway station. The journey was surprisingly smooth and we arrived at 16:00. Then we had some roast duck (secretly, I still have a complex about eating Beijing roast duck)



Extra: I was unlucky. The booking number in the text message sent by Mu Bus was wrong, and I couldn’t find it on site. Director Wang took a picture of the message and asked me to get on the bus.
