Reclining Buddha Temple

卧佛寺

The Reclining Buddha Temple is named after the reclining Buddha statue in the temple, which is more than 1,300 years old. About 500 meters northwest of the Reclining Buddha Temple is Cherry Valley. This is a quiet valley that is wide on the outside and narrow on the inside, with tall and steep mountains on both sides and a winding stream with clear water.
The wintersweets in the Reclining Buddha Temple bloom from February to March every year. There are dozens of wintersweets between the glazed archway and the mountain gate hall, as well as around the bell and drum towers and the release pond. There is also an ancient wintersweets tree on the east side of the Heavenly King Hall, which was planted during the Tang Dynasty.

Located at the northern end of Beijing Botanical Garden, it is close to Xishan Mountain, with a quiet environment, beautiful scenery and exquisite architecture. At the turn of winter and spring, the ancient winter plum blossoms in the temple are very charming. The big reclining Buddha in the Reclining Buddha Temple is soul-stirring, and its serene posture is unforgettable.

Reclining Buddha Temple's name correction ~ Shifang Pujue Temple

The temple was first built during the Zhenguan period of the Tang Dynasty.

In the eighth year of the Ming Dynasty (after reconstruction in 1943), it was renamed Shou'an Zen Temple.

In the 18th year of Chenghua (1482), it was renamed Yong'an Temple.

In the 12th year of Emperor Yongzheng's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1734), it was renamed Shifang Pujue Temple.

Address: Beijing Botanical Garden, Wofosi Road, Haidian District, Beijing

As soon as you come in, you can see the release pond, with a stone bridge across it. Now, in order to protect the environment, it is not allowed to release animals at will. The pond is full of red carp, which is very ornamental.

On both sides of the stone bridge are the bell tower and the drum tower.

The plaque hanging in front of the mountain gate reads "Shifang Pujue Temple". It was originally written by Emperor Yongzheng, and the current one is written by Zhao Puchu.

The Main Hall is also known as the Hall of the Third Generation. The plaque outside the hall, "Shuanglin Suijing", was written by Emperor Qianlong.

The plaque on the Reclining Buddha Hall ~ Xingyue Hengming was written by Empress Dowager Cixi.

The inscription "Da Da Zi Zai" in the Hall of Reclining Buddha was written by Emperor Qianlong.

There are not many people in the Reclining Buddha Temple, the environment is elegant, and it is a quiet place.

The Reclining Buddha Temple is built facing south, with undulating mountains leaning against the north side of the temple like a barrier, and the temple buildings also rise along the mountain.

Two rows of ancient cypresses lead the way. Facing you is a glazed archway, a white marble doorway, a white marble pedestal, yellow-green glazed columns, banners, brackets, and eaves. Behind the Heavenly King Hall is the main hall, which houses the famous reclining Buddha, which gave the temple its name. According to legend, there was originally a reclining Buddha here, a sandalwood Buddha statue from the Zhenguan period of Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty. Emperor Yongzheng once visited it, but it was lost during the Qianlong period.

Shifang Pujue Temple, the first branch in Beijing

The Reclining Buddha Temple in the Beijing Botanical Garden, also known as the "Shifang Pujue Temple", is a world-famous thousand-year-old temple and a royal temple of the Zen sect of Mahayana Buddhism in the Tang Dynasty. It has five distinctive landscapes: the Half-Moon Pond, the ancient wintersweets, the ancient ginkgo trees, the Eighteen Arhats and the Reclining Buddha.

The ancient wintersweets in front of the Tianwang Hall are called "the best wintersweets in Beijing". Dozens of them gather in a cluster less than one meter away, reaching a height of three or four meters. From November to early March of the following year, different varieties of wintersweets bloom one after another, enjoying the reputation of "the best wintersweets in Beijing".

The Reclining Buddha Temple was originally named Tuoluo Temple. It was first built in the Tang Dynasty and has a history of more than a thousand years. It is a key national cultural relic protection unit. The temple was renovated in the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties and renamed several times. After the reign of Emperor Yongzheng, it was called Shifang Pujue Temple. There is a bronze statue of Sakyamuni in the Yuan Dynasty, so it is also called the Reclining Buddha Temple.

The Reclining Buddha Temple, also known as the Shifang Pujue Temple, is located in the western suburbs of Beijing. It is adjacent to the Beijing Botanical Garden and Xiangshan Hill, so you can arrange a visit there together.

The glazed archway of the Reclining Buddha Temple is very beautiful. The colors and carvings show the momentum and exquisiteness of the royal temple. The ancient cypresses in front of the temple make the ancient temple look deep and ancient. Walking into the archway, the half-moon-shaped release pond and the stone bridge built on it become one of the special attractions of the temple. Going further in, there are the Mountain Gate Hall, the Heavenly King Hall, the Three Buddha Hall, the Reclining Buddha Hall and the Sutra Library. Now the Sutra Library is not open to the public. The reclining Buddha in the Reclining Buddha Hall is made of bronze. Perhaps to protect such a precious Buddha statue, tourists can only admire and worship outside the door at present, and are not allowed to enter the temple. Standing outside the door, you can also see the plaque above the Buddha Hall "De Da Zi Zai", which was written by Emperor Qianlong.

I accompanied my boyfriend to the Reclining Buddha Temple to ask for an offer, which is inside the Beijing Botanical Garden.

The glazed archway of the Reclining Buddha Temple is gorgeous and exquisite, reflecting the momentum of the royal temple. The front side has "Tong Can Mi Zang" and the back side has "Fu Su Jing Yan" written by Emperor Qianlong. In front of the mountain gate hall, the bell and drum are symmetrical on the second floor, and there is a release pond in front. The environment along the way is lush and green, and it is very pleasant. There are statues of the two generals Heng and Ha in the temple. Their behavior and expressions are vivid and lifelike, which makes people feel awe. There are also statues of the Four Heavenly Kings, which are also very imposing.

The Reclining Buddha Temple is located in the Beijing Botanical Garden. The temple was first built during the Zhenguan period of the Tang Dynasty (627-649). It was originally named Tuoluo Temple. It was renamed Pujue Temple after being rebuilt in the 12th year of the Yongzheng period of the Qing Dynasty. Since there was a reclining Buddha carved out of sandalwood in the temple in the Tang Dynasty, and later a huge bronze statue of Sakyamuni Buddha's nirvana was cast in the temple in the Yuan Dynasty, people generally call this temple the "Reclining Buddha Temple".

The Reclining Buddha Temple is not far from Xiangshan Mountain. It is only one stop away from Xiangshan Mountain. The Reclining Buddha Temple is inside the Beijing Botanical Garden, so you need to buy a ticket to the Beijing Botanical Garden first, and then buy another ticket when you arrive at the Reclining Buddha Temple. The plaque on the mountain gate of the Reclining Buddha Temple reads "Shifang Pujue Temple". The plaque on the Reclining Buddha Hall reads "Xingyue Hengming", which was written by Cixi. The plaque in the hall reads "De Da Zizai" which was written by Emperor Qianlong. The Reclining Buddha is the Buddha's Nirvana statue. We came here to visit after coming down from Xiangshan Mountain. We were a little rushed. If we had time, it would be very comfortable to visit the Botanical Garden together.

Very good. I think the scenery is better than the botanical garden. There are fewer people. There is also a teahouse next to it. You can take a rest in the busy area. It is very good.

If you go to the botanical garden, you can stop by for a stroll. If you go there on purpose, it feels quite far and the temple is not too big!!!

Shifang Pujue Temple is located at the southern foot of Shouniu Mountain and the eastern side of Xiangshan Mountain in the north of Xishan, Beijing, 30 kilometers away from the city. The temple was first built during the Zhenguan period of the Tang Dynasty (627-649), and was originally named Doushi Temple, also known as Shou'an Temple. Since there was a reclining Buddha carved from sandalwood in the temple in the Tang Dynasty, and later in the Yuan Dynasty, a huge bronze statue of Sakyamuni Buddha's nirvana was cast in the temple, so people generally call this temple "Reclining Buddha Temple".

Deep in the botanical garden is the Reclining Buddha Temple, which is famous for its reclining Buddha. I love this place because it is remote and quiet. Even if the botanical garden is noisy, you can still listen to the birds singing here.
