I woke up feeling refreshed this morning and am going to inspect the Summer Palace today.
I took the subway again and arrived at the North Palace Gate of the Summer Palace.

The Summer Palace is very large and you cannot explore it all in one morning. You can only visit the important attractions. If you want to have an in-depth tour, you will need a whole day.

I think the most beautiful time of the Summer Palace is spring. In mid-March every year, the reeds of the previous year are still swaying in the wind, and the winter jasmine, mountain peach, magnolia, and dry branch plum blossom one after another. The lake water is clear, the willows are sprouting, and water birds are swimming on the lake, welcoming tourists from all directions.
If you go to the Summer Palace early, you can drive if you arrive around 7 o'clock, and there will be parking spaces. If you arrive late, I suggest you take a car.

My friend and I almost finished walking around the Summer Palace. We rented a guide from the North Palace Gate entrance at 11:30 in the morning (it was not really necessary, it was more convenient to use a mobile phone). We went up from the Four Continents to the World of Incense, but we didn’t find the way so we went down the mountain. We went to the Stone Boat and walked around. We went up from the Paiyun Gate to the Buddhist Incense Pavilion and the Baoyun Pavilion, walked down the mountain all the way to the East Gate, then went to the Seventeen-Arch Bridge and the island, turned back and walked along the West Causeway and went out from the North Ruyi Gate. It was a very tiring day, but fortunately the scenery was very good, and the scenery on the lake really looked like West Lake. The Summer Palace was originally the imperial palace and garden of the Qing Dynasty, also known as the Qingyi Garden. It was past nine o'clock and there were already a lot of tourists here. I queued up to buy tickets. My parents didn't need tickets, so I bought an adult ticket, which was really cheap.

Even with a mask on, my nose was already runny. It was so cold. Traveling to Beijing should have been a happy thing, but I felt so tired at the time. After climbing over the top of the mountain, I walked down the steps and dirt road. The mountain is not high, so we walked down quickly. Kunming Lake was completely frozen. The weather was cold, and the Summer Palace was quite large and windy, so the perceived temperature was really low. We hurriedly left from the East Gate. As a result, when we came out of the East Gate, we were shocked by the people queuing to enter. There were really too many tourists. Fortunately, we arrived early. Later, I learned from the official account that many attractions in Beijing were full today.

As soon as you enter the gate, the first thing that comes into view is Suzhou Street. You need to buy a separate ticket to Suzhou Street. There are shops on both sides of the street, and there is nothing fancy. If you are short of time, you can completely give it up.

The Long Corridor in the Summer Palace is famous for its exquisite architecture, winding paths and rich colorful paintings. It is the longest corridor in my country's ancient buildings and gardens. There are colorful paintings on each beam of the Long Corridor, and the contents of the paintings are mostly landscapes, flowers and birds, and plots from the four famous classical Chinese novels.

After getting off the bus at Beigong Gate, I bought a ticket to enter the park. Considering that it was off-season, and the guide and the experience of friends who had been there did not recommend the combined ticket, I only bought the big ticket to go in. There is a bridge after entering Beigong Gate, and under the bridge is Suzhou Street. It was winter when we went there, so there were few people and it was icy.
After a quick look, we went up the mountain. We took photos while playing. The scenery on the mountain was nice and the historical traces were still there. Behind the mountain was the big lake of the Summer Palace. The sunset was beautiful. Follow the crowd along the lake and walk to the left. You will come to the Seventeen-Arch Bridge.

We booked the tickets for the Summer Palace online, plus the guided tour. We just went to the entrance of the Summer Palace to find the tour guide, who led the group into the park every 15 minutes, which was very convenient. We could also listen to the brief introduction.
The lake in the Summer Palace is also frozen, and there are ice recreational activities available. If you don’t have enough time to go to Beihai Park, you can also visit the Summer Palace and enjoy some ice activities.

The Summer Palace is just one word, big. When we went there, Kunming Lake was frozen, and the leaves on the trees had basically fallen off, which made it less green and lively. There is a wind and rain corridor outside the lake. The murals on it are quite distinctive, and each one is different, with a bit of Western style. In addition, it is recommended to go in the morning. There are really many people going in the afternoon, probably with the attitude of taking pictures of the sunset. It is recommended to leave enough two and a half hours to play. We bought a joint ticket that day and didn’t finish the tour. We went out in more than an hour and a half. The main reason is that walking is tiring, and the courtyards are a bit scattered and difficult to find. It is really comfortable to climb to the top of the Buddhist Incense Pavilion and overlook the entire Summer Palace. It is said that the Summer Palace is four times larger than the Forbidden City. I didn’t believe it at first. In my mind, the Forbidden City is already big enough, and it is impossible to be so much bigger than it. As a result, I really became a Buddha when I went there.

There are already a lot of tourists. I wonder what the situation will be like during the peak season. As soon as we entered the gate, private tour guides kept coming up to us to solicit business and give explanations. No park staff interfered.
After watching the documentary "The Summer Palace", I have a deeper understanding of it. Being in this royal garden, which was built with the efforts of the whole country and cost a huge amount of money, is grand in scale, and has a tragic fate, I feel mixed emotions.

There are more individual tourists and tour groups in the East Gate area. This area is more lively and the highlights are concentrated. It took more than two hours to walk around and leave the park from the North Palace Gate.

Suzhou Street is at the entrance. I didn't buy a combined ticket, but a ticket for Suzhou Street. However, the tour guide told a lot of stories about the Feng Shui and cloisonné of the Summer Palace. Believe it or not, at that moment, she made you feel less lonely, and at least entering this royal garden was not just for taking photos, but also for gaining something in Feng Shui. After the Longevity Hill is the Kunming Lake, which is still super beautiful under the sun.

We bought tickets online directly, which cost 20 RMB. We rented a guide each and listened while we walked around. The Summer Palace is really big and beautiful. I couldn't help but sigh that Empress Dowager Cixi had a great life in her later years. She, the emperor and some concubines were all in the huge Summer Palace. We found a beautiful scenery on the back mountain of Xiquge, which was really beautiful. I don't know what kind of leaves they were, but the yellow and red leaves gave a very autumn feeling, so it attracted many photography enthusiasts to take pictures there.
Since we didn't want to climb the mountain, we didn't go to the Buddhist Scripture Pavilion. Then we passed the Long Corridor. Because it was the weekend, there were so many people, so we tried to avoid the crowd and walked all the way to the 17-Arch Bridge. There were also many people walking there. It was too tiring to cross the 17-Arch Bridge, and the Summer Palace was very large, so we chose to take a boat to the west gate and go out.

If you want to stroll from Kunming Lake all the way south, you can choose the West Gate Station of the Summer Palace on the Beijing Metro West Suburb Line. In addition, just like we chose to take Line 4, exit from Exit D of Beigongmen and walk back to the North Gate of the Summer Palace.
If you are traveling with a tour group, you must enter the Summer Palace from the East Gate.

We went directly in from Beigong Gate, and then took a boat from Suzhou Street. It was 50 yuan per person to the Seventeen-Arch Bridge, and then walked back to Beigong Gate.
