Yunju Temple was first built in the late Sui Dynasty and early Tang Dynasty. It was originally named "Zhiquan Temple" and later changed to "Yunju Temple". The temple covers an area of 0.07 square kilometers. After being repaired by successive dynasties, it has formed five courtyards and six halls. It was destroyed by Japanese artillery fire in the 1940s. After liberation, it underwent two large-scale restorations. Yunju Temple, Shijingshan Sutra Cave, and Tang and Liao Pagoda Group constitute a treasure house of Chinese Buddhist cultural characteristics.
There is also a nearly 40-year-old cherry tree in the temple. In late spring, when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, the gorgeous petals set off the red walls and black tiles, looking both simple and beautiful, as beautiful as an ancient painting.

Yunju Temple is located in Shijing Mountain, Fangshan District. The most famous thing about this temple is that it has collected tens of thousands of stone sutras, which is the largest existing "stone-carved Buddhist Tripitaka" in my country. In 605 AD, Jingwan, a high monk at the end of the Sui Dynasty, began to carve stone sutras. It lasted for 1,039 years through the Sui, Tang, Liao, Jin, Yuan and Ming dynasties. A total of 14,278 complete large and small sutras have been discovered, including 1,122 Buddhist sutras and 3,572 volumes, with a total of more than 35 million engraved characters. The stone sutras are a cultural treasure of the Chinese nation and an extremely precious world cultural heritage with extremely high academic, cultural and historical value.
It is far from the city, but the scenery is very pleasant, and you can feel the Buddha's prayers when you go there.
It is a place that people who visit ancient sites must visit. It is worth mentioning that Shijing Mountain is 1 km north of Yunju Temple. It was the place where stone scriptures and relics were once preserved. It is mainly composed of cliff-carved scripture caves, which are also worth a visit. It is recommended to visit it together with Yunju Temple.
What attracted me most was the magnificent thousand-year-old stone sutra and the Buddha's relics.
The Fangshan Stone Sutra is the largest existing stone-carved Buddhist canon in my country. The Heart Sutra in the Fangshan Stone Sutra was engraved in the sixth year of Emperor Gaozong of the Tang Dynasty (661), three years earlier than the Great Tang Internal Classics Record completed in 664. This proves that the Heart Sutra in the Fangshan Stone Sutra is the earliest existing version. You can also go to see the colorful leaves in autumn.
Teionkyo Temple
The two of them rode away for six hundred miles to get a glimpse of the stone scriptures that had been in existence for thousands of years.
The clear sky is perfect for ascending to heaven, and the precious temple is visible from afar.
The autumn wind is intoxicating under the Bodhi tree, and the statues in the Vairocana Hall are solemn.
Don’t lament that there are few pilgrims to the temple, it turns out that immortals once lived here.
Yunju Temple was first built in the late Sui Dynasty and early Tang Dynasty. It was originally named "Zhiquan Temple" and later renamed "Yunju Temple". The temple covers an area of 0.07 square kilometers. After being renovated by successive dynasties, it has formed five courtyards and six halls. It was destroyed by the Japanese army during the war and rebuilt after liberation. It is located in a remote area with few tourists. The ticket price is 40 yuan/ticket
At the end of the year, I visited the scenic spots near my home. I had never been to Yunju Temple. The sky was blue and the air was good. The scenery was nice. Half of the interior was renovated. You can turn around in an hour and a half. But the online electronic discount ticket was not recognized. It said that the computer was broken. You can only buy tickets at the door. I learned that the oldest tower in Beijing is in Yunju Temple. There are 14,278 stone Buddhist scriptures. It was quite shocking.
It is a good place to learn more about the stone carving culture, and the beautiful red leaves in autumn are also a highlight.
A one-day weekend trip, take the Lianshi Road to Beijing-Kunming. There are few cars on the highway, the road is easy to walk, and there are not many people in the scenic area. Those who like to burn incense and worship Buddha can come
Yunju Temple is just off the Beijing-Kunming Expressway on Lianshi Road. The entire journey is 79 kilometers and the expressway fee is 25 yuan, which is very convenient. Yunju Temple is built on the mountain. The five large halls are large in scale, with Buddhist scriptures and relics. It is worth a visit.
In March, there were not many people in Yunju Temple. The ticket was 40 yuan, and it was a good deal because I bought an annual pass. The flowers and trees in Yunju Temple had not yet bloomed, and it looked a bit empty. There are many halls inside, and you can visit them one by one. There are also many scriptures and cultural relics. Of course, the North Tower and the South Tower attracted me the most. For me who don't know much about Buddhist culture, I visited it for an hour and then came out. There are many people selling incense at the door, but it is unnecessary, because there are incense in the temple...
It is a heritage site. It is not convenient to go there from Beijing. You need to take a long car ride. The surrounding environment is not very good and many things need to be improved. It is still OK for an in-depth tour of Beijing.
From 605 to 617 AD (during the Sui Dynasty), the monk Jingwan and successive monks until the end of the Ming Dynasty and the beginning of the Qing Dynasty, Yunju Temple, a quiet temple nestled in a deep mountain valley, devoted itself to one thing - carving sutras. During this period, there were cultural changes of successive dynasties, as well as disputes among Buddhist sects. The rise and fall between the Zen and Vinaya schools are reflected in the traces of human destruction on the damaged stone carvings. People who focus on studying the development of Buddhism in my country will definitely not forget this place, because it has been tirelessly continuing one thing from the beginning to the end - carving sutras.
People say that if you stick to something for 21 days, it will become a habit. Apart from necessary repairs, the ancient temple has been engraving scriptures almost non-stop for 1,400 years. How should this be defined?
For thousands of years, every time the knife fell, there would be a clanging sound on the stone slab; every time they changed their job, it was a small breath, and then they would focus again; before completing one sutra board, the monks would move on to the next one. Time slipped away under the carving knife, but the figures of the monks carving the sutras seemed to be frozen.
They are "perseverant, persevering, meticulous, and silently dedicated", and give their all, just to preserve the voice of Buddha.
Yunju Temple is located in Dashiwo Town, Fangshan District, southwest of Beijing, 70 kilometers from the city center. Yunju Temple, Shijing Mountain Sutra Cave, and Tang and Liao Pagoda Group constitute a treasure house of Chinese Buddhist cultural characteristics. I went to Yunju Temple in June. I arrived at the scenic area at around 3 pm. There were few tourists. The temple was quiet and leisurely. People who are interested in Buddhist culture can savor the long history and culture here. It is also a holy place for burning incense and worshiping Buddha.
Yunju Temple is located in Fangshan District, Beijing, 70 kilometers from the city center. It is famous for its stone scriptures and Buddhist relics.
The pagoda and the sutra pillars are among the oldest in China, and the stone sutras are also awe-inspiring. However, the so-called rubbings sold there are made from replicas, which cost hundreds of dollars each, and are totally not worth it. The replicas are completely different from the original book by Master Jingwan, and the charm is completely lost. In addition, the scenery of Yunju Temple itself is also very beautiful.
The ancient pagodas are great. The people who sell incense in the temple (note, inside, not outside the door) are very mean. They say all kinds of nonsense to get people to buy incense and ask for talismans. It is recommended that you buy incense before entering the temple. It happened to be the time when the Buddha's relics were opened. Overall it was great.
I just went there. The temple is not big, but the stone scriptures inside are really shocking. I just saw some friends say that the Buddha's relics don't feel real. Actually, I don't think so. I can admire them so closely. I think this is what Buddha should bring to everyone! The people in the temple specifically told us that the introduction in the Buddha's Relics Hall is not the same as the relics, which means that the relics in the hall are the Buddha's bones, not the flesh! The North Tower in the temple is very distinctive, and there are many wooden Buddha statues from the Song Dynasty, which are elegant and very beautiful! I didn't expect that such a small temple could hide so many treasures! By the way, I took the wrong road, crossing mountains and ridges, but when I was almost there, I found that there was a flat road to get there... Don't go wrong!
The ticket is quite expensive, 40 per person, and they stop selling tickets after 4 o'clock. The whole temple basically has only one North Tower, which is really old. The North Tower is a Liao Dynasty brick stupa, also known as the "Arhat Tower". It was built during the Tianqing period of the Liao Dynasty (1111-1120). It is more than 30 meters high. The tower body integrates three forms: pavilion style, covered bowl style and Vajra throne. The shape is very special. The lower part of the tower is an octagonal Xumi pedestal, with two floors of pavilion-style brick towers built on it, and then covered bowls and "Thirteen Heavens" pagodas are placed on top. This type of Liao tower is very rare.
I originally planned to drive there to eat vegetarian food, but when I got there, the staff said that there was no vegetarian food available. After careful inquiry, they said that the leadership had changed and it had been cancelled long ago. Although I was very depressed, I still bought two tickets and went in for a while. A ticket is 40 yuan. The scenic area is not big. The most famous thing is the Buddha's bone relics and stone scriptures inside. The basement where the stone scriptures are stored is not big, but it is still shocking to see a room full of stone scriptures. The introduction said that there are even stone carvings of scriptures left by Tang Xuanzang. This small basement contains the historical imprint of China for thousands of years. The Buddha's relics we saw did not have strong protection measures, which made people feel unreal. The relics are as big as rice grains, milky white, and no photos are allowed. We played for a total of 2 hours and then came out. Here I remind everyone to bring delicious food and drinks in. There is no place to sell things in the whole temple. I thought I could buy some small bread or something to fill my stomach, but we came out hungry for 2 hours. Opposite the scenic spot is a farmhouse restaurant. There were quite a lot of people. Two people spent more than 60 yuan for three dishes. The taste was average. We drove from Jingshi to Yueliu Road and then took Fangyi Road to Yunju Temple Road. It was very convenient and arrived in more than an hour. In addition, parking was not easy. When we went there, there was no parking anywhere. We paid 10 yuan and parked in the military yard next to it. The soldiers at the door asked everyone in the car except the driver to get out and wait at the gate. Only the driver could go in to park. It was really strict.
The scenery is beautiful and you can see the relics. I recommend you go there in autumn, the fallen leaves are very beautiful! I will definitely provide photos if I have the chance
Going south from the Medicine Buddha Hall is the Stone Sutra Underground Palace and the South Pagoda. However, the South Pagoda is currently under repair, so you can't see it in its entirety. The Stone Sutra Underground Palace preserves more than 14,000 stone sutras from Yunju Temple. It is a masterpiece that the monks of Yunju Temple spent thousands of years to build in order to prevent the Buddhist scriptures from being lost and ensure that the Dharma will be passed on forever to future generations. The length of time it took and the scale of the project are truly breathtaking!
The thousand-year-old temple is famous for preserving tens of thousands of stone scriptures and the Buddha's flesh relics. Although it is not as mysterious and quiet as it used to be, it is good to come here to feel the weight of history.
The thousand-year-old temple is worth a visit. It houses the Buddha's relics.
Yunju Temple is one of the eight temples and three mountains in Beijing. Fangshan is famous for its stones, while Yunju Temple is famous for its stone scriptures. It has the largest number of stone-carved scriptures in the world, but most of them are hidden in the underground palace and cannot be seen in detail. You can feel the extreme piety of faith in the exhibition hall of the Blood-Swallowed Sutra. There is also a stone tablet in the temple that was written by Emperor Jiaqing. Unfortunately, the lower half of the word "云" was cut off by shrapnel during the Anti-Japanese War, leaving a real cloud.
