Located in Longgushan, Zhoukoudian Town, Fangshan District, Beijing, about 50 kilometers away from Beijing, it was created about 500,000 to 700,000 years ago. A total of 27 sites of various fossils and cultural relics from different periods have been discovered at the Zhoukoudian site, with more than 200 human fossils, more than 100,000 stone tools, a large number of fire remains and hundreds of animal fossils unearthed. It is a treasure trove of human fossils and a multidisciplinary comprehensive research base for paleoanthropology, archaeology, paleontology, stratigraphy, chronology, environmental science and karstology.

Zhoukoudian Peking Man Site Museum, 30 yuan
Zhoukoudian Peking Man Site Park, 30 yuan
Play time 2 hours
The museum doesn't have many collections. Due to the loss of national treasures such as the skull, there are only wild animal fossils found in the same location. It doesn't really matter whether you go or not.
The site of the Beijing Man skull was discovered in the ruins park, which was renovated last year with a modern dome to protect the mountain to the greatest extent possible. For a true heritage site (the museum is in the buffer zone), such protection is actually quite controversial.
It is far from downtown Beijing. Take the Fangshan Line of the subway to the end, transfer to the Yanfang Line, get off at Fangshan Chengguan and then take the bus. The one-way trip takes 2 hours.
The Zhoukoudian Ruins and the Museum are two scenic spots, and tickets are sold separately. The ruins are the Ape Man Cave, which has been restored for protection, and the various archaeological excavation sites around the mountain, which are mainly symbolic.
The museum is 400-500 meters away from the site and displays various fossils unearthed by archaeologists. There are scheduled explanations, and electronic explanations can also be downloaded on mobile phones.
The tour time for Zhoukoudian Ruins is 1 hour, and the museum is 30 to 40 minutes.

5 Peking Man Site at Zhoukoudian
A famous tourist attraction in Beijing, well worth a visit.
Ape-man ruins and introduction, general scenery, with archaeological value
There are some replicas of bone fossils in the museum, as well as an introduction to the excavation process and archaeological knowledge. Behind it are large ruins and caves, including the famous Shanding Cave, but God knows why I came here to check it out.
If you don't study archaeology, generally no one would go here, but the forest scenery is also very good.
In 2018, the renovation project of the Zhoukoudian site was completed, and the site was comprehensively protected. A protective cover was built on the site and modern photoelectric effects were added.
The Zhoukoudian Site Museum is located at the foot of Dragon Bone Hill in Zhoukoudian, Fangshan District, southwest of Beijing. It is an ancient human site museum that was built in 1953. In 1929, Chinese paleoanthropologist Pei Wenzhong discovered the first complete skull fossil of "Peking Man" at Dragon Bone Hill, which shocked the world. It is a world cultural heritage, a national AAAA-level scenic spot, a national key cultural relic protection unit, and one of the top 100 national patriotism education demonstration bases. It is about 48 kilometers away from downtown Beijing.
In August 2017, relevant departments of Beijing City and Fangshan District were carrying out the renovation project of the "Ape Man Cave". It is expected that after the safety shed is fully greened in the spring of 2018, the "Ape Man Cave" will open to visitors.
It can be said that the most easily overlooked heritage site is actually in Fangshan, Beijing. The best way to get here is of course to drive yourself, as tour groups rarely come here. If you take the bus, you will need a long transfer process. It takes at least two hours to get here by bus and subway from Beijing city.
When you arrive at the site, you need to ask the local villagers. After buying the ticket, walk counterclockwise to complete the tour.
The tour usually takes no more than an hour. When the history books I studied before talked about the earliest human civilization, Peking Man and Upper Cave Man were always mentioned repeatedly.
It takes a whole day to prepare for this trip. After the tour, I felt that it was too tiring to come here. The infrastructure in the scenic area is not very complete, and there is actually nothing specific to see in the ruins.
It is too easy to be forgotten. There are no tour guides here. It is indeed a forgotten heritage.
The Zhoukoudian site is divided into two parts: the site area and the museum, which are open to the public all year round. The site area has many famous fossil sites such as the Ape Man Cave, New Cave, and Shanding Cave. The museum has seven exhibition halls, which house a large number of precious cultural relics, animal fossils, and stone tools. It interprets the historical value and cultural connotation of the Zhoukoudian site to the audience in the form of pictures and texts.
The museum is quite standard, introducing the origin of the site and some data, as well as a few fun rides. When I went there, it felt like there were only a few people in the entire area, which was the same feeling I had when I went to the Yin Ruins in Anyang. This kind of heritage site, which has no natural scenery and no buildings, simply has few people.
There is no special food or drink near Zhoukoudian. It is good to find a ramen restaurant. You can have lunch at noon to fill your stomach. You can go back to downtown Beijing to eat at night. In addition, there are no small shops selling food in the scenic area. You can bring some food with you. The scenic area itself is not big and you can finish it quickly.
World Cultural Heritage, the first batch of national key cultural relics protection units, and China's most important ancient human archaeological site. But for tourists who are not interested, there is really not much to attract you. It is the favorite of the World Heritage Party and the National Protection Party. It seems that the Ape Man Cave will not be open until September
Although Zhoukoudian is a bit far from downtown Beijing, the Beijing Cave Man is a must-see. It is well worth spending half a day to go and see it.
It's a good place to dig into the history. The site is under renovation and is not open.
The Zhoukoudian Peking Man Site is located in the north of Longgu Mountain in Zhoukoudian Town, Fangshan District, southwest of Beijing. It is the most abundant, systematic and valuable human site in the world during the early Paleolithic period, providing strong evidence for the theory of evolution. This is a good place for children to receive enlightenment education, allowing them to learn relevant knowledge more intuitively and cultivate their interest in scientific knowledge from an early age!

In 1929, Chinese paleoanthropologist Pei Wenzhong discovered the first complete skull fossil of the "Peking Man" at Dragon Bone Hill, shocking the world. Later, due to years of war, all the fossil specimens of Peking Man and Upper Cave Man discovered since 1927 were lost, and their whereabouts are still unknown. This event has become a world mystery in the history of archaeology in the 20th century.
It's not far from Fangshan Changyang, but the way back is quite winding. The road is good, but it's scary to drive.
Beijing has seven world heritage sites, and I have been to six of them, including the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, the Summer Palace, the Ming Tombs, and the Grand Canal. On Friday, October 13, in the golden autumn, the weather was clear. I followed the Jintuan to visit and play at the Peking Man Site in Zhoukoudian, Fangshan, which just fulfilled my wish to see this world heritage site. The Zhoukoudian Site is divided into two parts: the Site Park and the Site Museum. We first went to the park. Unfortunately, the cave on the top of the mountain is under repair and is not open. After visiting the exhibition room, we went up the mountain to see the excavation site and the view. The Site Museum was built in 1953. In 1929, Mr. Fei Wenzhong excavated the first complete Peking Man skull fossil at Dragon Bone Hill in Zhoukoudian, Fangshan. In 1987, the Zhoukoudian Site was listed in the World Natural and Cultural Heritage List. Now tourists are visiting the new museum, and the old museum has become an experience hall with many interactive games, which is quite fun. You must visit the dual world heritage sites once. Half price for 60 years old and free for 65 years old.
Peking Man Museum is recommended for tourists visiting Zhoukoudian
The Peking Man Site, although the scenery is average, I personally think it is still worth visiting
The Zhoukoudian Peking Man Site is located at the foot of Dragon Bone Hill in Zhoukoudian, Fangshan District, Beijing, and is a world cultural heritage.
It is meaningful to archaeology and anthropology, but laymen are just watching the fun.
The Zhoukoudian site was discovered in 1918, and 27 sites of various fossils and cultural relics from different periods have been discovered, covering three ancient human stages: Homo erectus, early Homo sapiens and late Homo sapiens. It plays an important role in the study of paleoanthropology, Paleolithic archaeology, Quaternary geology and paleontology. The museum is divided into exhibition areas according to the excavation sites, focusing on the replicas of ancient human fossils from the first site (Yuren Cave) and various paleontological fossil specimens from other sites, which are worth seeing.

When I went there, the caves at the site were under maintenance and not open to the public. It was a pity. I hope to go there again before I graduate from college.
The leading museum in Fangshan District houses the earliest Peking Man, which lived 500,000 years ago, as well as the Ape Man Cave and skull models. It is a good place to learn about science.
The place is very remote. If you are traveling, you will definitely not come here. This is generally a field learning base for Beijing students. There are some fossils, which are basically imitations. However, there are several stone caves where Beijingers lived, which are not bad to visit.
Peking Man Site in Zhoukoudian
Because it is still under construction, some places cannot be visited. I believe it will be better after completion.
Driven by curiosity, I want to take a closer look. If you are interested, you can go and appreciate it, because it is really boring.
The birthplace of Peking Man is in Zhoukoudian, Beijing. It is too far from downtown Beijing. It is recommended to visit Fangshan to learn some knowledge.
I came to the Peking Man Site in Zhoukoudian on March 25, 2017. Let me tell you something: the entrance fee to the scenic spot is 30 yuan per person, but the cave inside is under repair and will not be open until the end of the year. However, tourists can buy tickets to enter the park to enjoy the natural scenery (the security guard said that it takes 1.5 kilometers to walk)
I went there only after buying an annual pass. The scenery was average, more like a museum. Yes, it is a museum. You can go there to see the origin of mankind, trace the roots, and experience the life of ancient people. It is also good to take your children there to learn.
It is mainly a popular science museum, and many of the artifacts on display are replicas.
Although I grew up in Beijing and often read about it in geography and history books, the first time I went there was when I was in college with a couple from Latin America.
Our school (China University of Geosciences) organizes internships in geosciences, where you can learn a lot.
The whole family went, booked tickets online, increased knowledge, and parents are recommended to bring their children to learn about the history of human development. We went early in the morning, so there were not many people, but when we came out, there were more people.
I am from Zhoukoudian area. We call it Dragon Bone Mountain. When we were little, we would jump over the wall to get in. It has the flavor of childhood.

The favorite spring outing spot for elementary and middle school students. Usually packaged with Shihua Cave. I went there more than three times when I was in school. In terms of cultural heritage, it is still worth seeing, but the children are not very interested and can't understand it after listening to the explanation.
It's a pity that the Peking Man skull fossil was lost, which makes this place look much less attractive.
A landmark place in archaeology, but unfortunately the whereabouts of the skull fossil is unknown
It is very suitable for parents to bring their children to visit, which can increase a lot of archaeological knowledge. It is the earliest world cultural heritage in China and occupies a particularly important position in world archaeological research. It is located in Fangshan District and is convenient to drive to.
The Peking Man skull was lost during World War II, and there is nothing in the museum
The Zhoukoudian Peking Man Site is located in Dragon Bone Hill, Zhoukoudian, Fangshan District, Beijing. In 1929, Chinese paleontologist Pei Wenzhong discovered primitive human teeth, bones and a complete skull here. He also found traces of the Peking Man's life, hunting and use of fire, proving that there were human activities in the Beijing area 500,000 years ago. It is a national key cultural relic protection unit and is worth visiting.
Since the Shangdingdong people here more than 10,000 years ago, China has always been the most populous country in the world. But now the environment there has changed, and those who understand geological changes can see what has happened.
Unfortunately, the whereabouts of the Peking Man's skull is unknown.
Be sure to come here to see the civilization of our ancestors
It's just very remote. The new museum is a bit disappointing, but the ruins are okay.
The old museum is still interesting. The weather is fine and it is nice to climb the mountain.
I went there on the afternoon of my wedding day. There were only replicas inside, basically no real ones. The ticket cost 30 yuan. When I went there, there was a school tour organized by the school.
Experts see the doorway, laymen see the excitement. As an layman, I think there is basically nothing there except that primitive humans once lived there. There were few people before 10 am. The scenic area is not small, you can take a walk, and there is an earthquake museum, which is quite interesting. I didn't go into the museum to see it. It is said that only the skull on the top of the head is real, and the others are molds. There are several large pits, which are said to be the archaeological discovery sites of Peking Man. There are numbers inside. This is Site No. 1, and that is Site No. 3. In my opinion, they are the same. I guess it should be more interesting to learn about it. If you treat it as a tourist attraction, it will be a little disappointing.
I don't know how much the ticket cost, but I went in from the back of the mountain.
The exhibition hall is not big, and we came here for our love of history. Visiting a museum will increase your knowledge. I have visited almost all the museums in Beijing, and this one is no exception.
The exhibition hall is not very big, but we come here to learn more. I think friends who like history must come here.
The Peking Man skull was discovered here, and it is very famous, but there is actually not much to see, mainly caves where primitive people lived, ash piles and other relics. In the past two years, the Beijing Municipal Government seems to have specially carried out maintenance and reinforcement to reduce the damage to the site due to wind and rain.
Not bad, I went there with my annual pass, it was a nice autumn day and I went to see it, it was very informative
The Zhoukoudian site is located in the mountains of Fangshan District, southwest of Beijing. Archaeologists discovered the remains of Peking Man, who lived about 500,000 years ago, in Zhoukoudian, which caused a sensation. Friends who are interested in paleoanthropology strongly recommend the museum and the cave site of the Upper Cave Man. The valley near Zhoukoudian is also suitable for a family outing during holidays, because the surroundings are very quiet and the scenery is beautiful. The only problem is that the transportation is not very convenient and you must drive yourself.
Well, I went to Zhoukoudian when Beijing was hottest. It is located in Fangshan, Beijing. To be honest, the Ape Man Site may be more famous, and the surrounding facilities and the entire site park are quite different from what everyone imagines. Entering the site park, a primitive smell hits you. Some caves in summer are very cool, and water is still dripping from the top of the cave. The success of the park is that it really allows you to feel the prehistoric living conditions of our ancestors, which may feel very simple; the downside is that the surrounding facilities are a bit behind ~ It depends on your personal situation to go there ~
But most of the exhibits in the museum are replicas, and the most famous Peking Man skull was lost during transportation during the war.
The world's most material-rich, most systematic and most valuable Early Paleolithic human site.
Zhoukoudian was the site of the Peking Man and Upper Cave Man, and the human skulls were discovered there, pushing the prehistoric civilization back hundreds of thousands of years. It is now a national key cultural relic protection site, so it is worth visiting.
It is a world-famous archaeological site of ancient humans and ancient vertebrates and the birthplace of "Peking Man".
Want to know the evolution of human beings? Please come here. It is far from downtown Beijing. It is in Fangshan District. You can only take a bus for about 2 hours. Now a protective cover has been built to protect the site. If you don't like these things, you will find the ticket a bit expensive, about 40 or 50 yuan, but it does represent an important process of human beings.
If you like archaeology, you have come to the right place. There are many original sites and precious fossils. If you don't like it, you'd better not come. It looks very boring. Also, I think you shouldn't bring children here. They may be scared when seeing so many skeletons.
Eleven people are still a bit too many. The museum has moved to a new location not far away, and it is not together with the scenic area of the ruins. The tickets for both places are 30, and students are half price. There are many trees in the scenic area, and it is refreshing to walk around when there are few people. The problems of both places are that the logic is not clear enough and the explanation is not in place. For example, I saw arrows to several locations in the scenic area, but after walking along the road, I found that one of them had to go up a little further. In addition, the explanation of time in the museum is not clear enough. They are all displayed according to the numbered locations, which makes it easy to confuse the order of Peking Man and Upper Cave Man. There are also better places. In addition to being quiet, the museum puts animal remains in a large picture to clearly show the location. There is an experience hall in the scenic area. Although there are many children, the interactive method is interesting.
Good, take the baby for a stroll, use the annual pass, not tired
The Zhoukoudian site is located in Fangshan District, Beijing. It is the site of the ancient apes in Beijing. If you travel to Beijing to learn about history, visiting here is an indispensable part.
Next time I must go and see what these ancient humans looked like.
To explore the origin of mankind, Longgu Mountain is a Feng Shui treasure land
The ancestors of Beijingers are here, hahaha!
The Zhoukoudian Ruins is a good place to learn about ancient human knowledge. You can take your children there to visit, but it's just a general place to play.
All that remains is the sculpture and the cave where the skull was found.
This one doesn't have any special features, but if you have a preference for this aspect, you can go and have a look.
The museum is quite large and displays many models of the Shangdingdong people and their production and living styles.
On the way back to Northeast China from Shanxi, we decided to stop in the suburbs of Beijing. We found through Baidu Navigation that Zhoukoudian, located in the southwest of Beijing, was the closest to us, so we decided to go to Zhoukoudian to meet the Peking Man. The Peking Man statue we saw in history textbooks was made into a sculpture standing at the entrance of the Zhoukoudian site. Looking at his familiar face, I felt a sense of intimacy.
