Chongqing Yangtze River Three Gorges

Cruise ships used to have a boat lift when passing through the Three Gorges Dam. However, due to the high volume of ships on the Yangtze River, large cruise ships often had to wait 4-6 hours for the boat lift. To save time, this option has been discontinued. Interested passengers can take a small sightseeing boat through the boat lift at their own expense. After a short bus ride, we arrived near the Three Gorges Dam. Following our guide's introduction, we took an escalator to the dam's observation deck, where we saw the history of the dam, the giant concrete blocks used to hold back the water, and other commemorative items. Due to safety concerns, the Three Gorges Dam cannot be toured on foot, and can only be viewed from a distance. However, as the saying goes, one cannot truly see the true face of Mount Lu until one is within it. If one were able to actually hike up the dam, it might not be possible to capture a panoramic view of the dam.

The geographical Three Gorges are from Baidi City to Yichang, while the tourism Three Gorges are from Chongqing to Yichang. You can board the boat from Chaotianmen in Chongqing or from Wanzhou.

Ever since I watched the 25-episode documentary "Talking about the Yangtze River" in 1983, a cruise to the Three Gorges has been a dream of mine. Today's trip to the Three Gorges was both surprising and gratifying. Besides seeing the inherent beauty of the Three Gorges, I also witnessed the happy smiles of the people whose lives have been transformed by the Three Gorges Dam. Most importantly, the significant improvement in the quality of cruise tours made my trip to the Three Gorges truly enjoyable and relaxing.

The Three Gorges of the Yangtze River, also known as the Gorges or the Great Three Gorges, are located on the main stream of the Yangtze River within the Chongqing, Enshi, and Yichang regions of China. The Three Gorges are quite impressive, but the weather was not very good. Many peaks were shrouded in fog. The pollution on both sides of the gorge was also very serious. Many factories were spewing out clouds of smoke.

Once a popular tourist destination, it's no longer as popular as it once was. From a natural perspective, the Three Gorges Dam still maintains the narrow river and high mountains, creating a dramatic and majestic landscape. However, the water flow is much slower, and the area has become a green river.

The scenery is very beautiful and I want to go there again. Taking a cruise to visit the Three Gorges is the best choice.

The Three Gorges are covered in fog

The tour guide said it was fog, but I knew it was PM2.5, shrouding the waterways. My imagined Three Gorges trip of lush green mountains and clear waters suddenly became a trip of the Three Ps. Today, we drove through Qutang Gorge, where the Kuimen Gate stretched endlessly, and Wu Gorge, where the Goddess Peak was barely visible. I'm sure tomorrow's Xiling Gorge will be similar. I visited the Three Gorges Dam a few years ago and wasn't impressed, but the five-stage ship lock at night was a memorable experience. We bid farewell to the blue skies so we could build the dam, and once the dam is built, we can welcome blue skies back. I hope our children can soon breathe the true clouds and rain of Wushan.

During the Dragon Boat Festival holiday in June 2013, my wife and I took a New Century Cruise. We boarded the ship in Yichang and toured the Three Gorges route, and disembarked in Chongqing. The scenery was beautiful and the cruise service was also very good. It is highly recommended.

These, combined with the stunning natural scenery, have earned them international acclaim. The Three Gorges of the Yangtze River is one of the world's grandest canyons, renowned both domestically and internationally for its magnificent natural beauty.

The scenery remains the same, but the experience of sailing through thousands of mountains is no longer there.

I took a cruise to visit the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River. I was particularly shocked by the wonders of nature. I couldn't imagine how beautiful the scenery was before the construction of the Three Gorges Dam. There are attractions everywhere. It is better to see them by yourself without a tour guide.

Half of the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River is located in Chongqing, and the other half is located in Hubei. Since the Three Gorges scenic area is really large, if you have time, you can choose to take a boat tour. Going downstream all the way to Chongqing, you will see beautiful mountains and rivers. It is definitely a landscape of high mountains and deep gorges that you cannot see in the north.

I was lucky to have visited the Three Gorges in 1996, before the dam began filling. Much of the scenery has changed with the impoundment. For example, the Zhang Fei Temple has been relocated, and the Fengdu Ghost City, a famous mountain, has been flooded halfway up the mountain. Fortunately, most of the ancient monuments on the mountain have been preserved. The Wushan County where I lived has also sunk to the bottom of the river. Of course, I hope to visit the Three Gorges again and experience the difference firsthand.

After the Three Gorges Dam was filled with water, some landscapes disappeared, such as rapids, ancient towns and villages, and plank roads; Qutang Gorge and Wu Gorge are still dangerous; some landscapes have also been added, and the water surface is wide and the water quality is clear in winter.

After wandering on the Yangtze River for a few days, I realized the vastness of the river.

Due to the rising water level of the Yangtze River, the Three Gorges are no longer as precipitous and majestic as they used to be, but they are still worth a visit.

The scenery of the Three Gorges is truly unmatched by many places abroad. I was fortunate enough to see the Three Gorges before the Three Gorges Dam was built and filled with water. The Wu Gorge at that time was much more beautiful than it is now. The domestic tourism market is not well regulated, so to go to the Three Gorges, you still have to take a good boat. You still get what you pay for.

Find a bright and crisp autumn day, gather 3-5 friends, sit on a cruise ship, drink some wine, chat, and enjoy the endless beautiful scenery along the way. Isn't it wonderful!!!
