The Monument to the Victory of the Anti-Japanese War and the People's Liberation Monument are landmarks in Chongqing. They symbolize the victory of the war and are the only monument in China commemorating the victory of the Chinese people in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. They also bear witness to the history of Chongqing's liberation. The intersection centered around the Monument, encompassing Minquan Road, Zourong Road, and Bayi Road, is Chongqing's most prosperous commercial district.
You can eat almost all Chongqing delicacies at Bayi Road Food Street. Surrounding it are Cathay Plaza, Chongqing White Building, Metropolitan Oriental Plaza, Xiexin Starlight Plaza, Bayi Square, Chongqing Times Square, etc., which are good places for shopping.
The best time to visit Jiefangbei is at night. When Chongqing residents start their nightlife, the Jiefangbei area becomes the busiest place for people to gather.

Jiefangbei is located in the heart of Chongqing, surrounded by a diverse array of businesses offering everything from luxury goods to snacks, at all price points and in all price ranges. While purely a commercial district, it doesn't offer much in the way of character, as a testament to the history and commercial development of Chongqing and even China, it truly embodies a quintessential era. It all started quite serendipitously one night when, on a whim, I revisited the area with a friend at 12:30 a.m. Even after the lights went out, Jiefangbei was bustling with activity, filled with small street vendors, food carts, and even urban management officers constantly chasing vendors late into the night. So, I bought some skewers and enjoyed them with my friend on the steps outside the shopping mall. We bumped into a sleepless Chongqing man, and we started chatting about Jiefangbei. From its lonely beginnings to its current sprawling skyscrapers, the man pointed out the nearby shopping mall and recounted the transformation of the Jiefangbei business district from his childhood to the present day.
In fact, pedestrian streets or shopping places across the country are all similar, with bustling crowds and big brands. You will feel aesthetic fatigue after walking around pedestrian streets for too long. But when you come to Chongqing, you always feel a little regretful if you don’t check in at Jiefangbei. When I went there, I really just checked in. I went into the Bayi Road Food Street to feel the hot and spicy Chongqing flavor. The Haoyoulai Hot and Sour Noodles and Huashi Pea Noodles here are very popular on the Internet. Looking at the tourists sweating profusely while eating around me, I felt particularly festive!
I think the night view of Hongyadong at Jiefangbei is truly beautiful. We booked a guesthouse, something called Shu Yujia, right above Jiaochangkou Food Street. Downstairs is Food Street, packed with delicious food, including Peijie Hotpot, Chongqing's #1 hotpot, Jiang Erwa skewers, barbecue, noodles, braised pork intestines, cold cakes, jelly, and more. Chongqing has so much to offer. We spent three days there, and every day was spent researching how to eat. Chongqing has many fun places, including Ciqikou, Foreigner Street, Nanshan Yikeshu, the internet-famous Hongyadong, and Tongjing Hot Springs (perfect for winter). For those with children, Yangjiaping Zoo, the chocolate factory at Shangqing Temple, and the aquarium at Hualong Bridge are all great options.
Jiefangbei, also known as the Anti-Japanese War Victory Monument, is the only monument in China commemorating the victory of the Chinese people in the Anti-Japanese War. It is now located in the heart of Jiefangbei Commercial Pedestrian Street in Yuzhong District, Chongqing. In 2008, more than 180,000 people came here to listen to the peace bell, breaking the Guinness World Record. At the beginning of the year, Jiefangbei is still a popular area. There are many luxury stores nearby, and it is also close to Hongyadong, making it very convenient to get to and from! It is worth a visit.
Perhaps it's because I'm from Shanghai, but when I first arrived in Chongqing, I was surprisingly unimpressed by Jiefangbei. It felt quite ordinary, like Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street in Shanghai. But Jiefangbei is a Chongqing landmark, a historical witness to the victory of the Anti-Japanese War and Chongqing's liberation, so a visit to Chongqing is a must. Three thousand years of Jiangzhou City, eight hundred years of Chongqing Prefecture, and a hundred years of Jiefangbei. Although Jiefangbei is now gradually surrounded by high-rise buildings, it remains a symbol of Chongqing and a microcosm of the city's spirit. Jiefangbei stands like a beacon at the center of the square, radiating out to numerous streets lined with shops. It's also very close to Bayi Road Snack Street, making it a short stroll. I recommend visiting Jiefangbei both during the day and at night. I personally find it even more captivating and beautiful when illuminated at night, making it easier to capture stunning photos.
Taking the bus back to Jiefangbei, I finally got to experience the bustle of Chongqing's CBD. Even before nightfall, the square was already bustling with people. Perhaps the biggest draw here isn't the designer stores, but the dazzling array of delicious food. Whether it's Bayi Road Food Street or Jiefangbei Food City, the aroma of food fills the streets, from small bites to grand dinners. After dinner, Jiefangbei was already illuminated, even more bustling than during the day. At 8 o'clock, the bells rang, heralding the arrival of Chongqing's vibrant night.
We went to Jiefangbei, and it was almost six o'clock when we returned. The lights around were gradually lit up. Jiefangbei was beautiful at night. I finally understood why so many people gathered at Jiefangbei in Chongqing to celebrate the New Year!
Although I can’t afford many things, I have seen brands that are not available in small cities. Girls are very excited to go shopping like this.
Jiefangbei is undoubtedly the center of the mountain city, a shopping paradise for tourists, and also the top of the list of folk check-in attractions.
Despite this, I still like this place very much. After all, being rustic does not mean being "unfun/uninteresting". There are indeed things that shock most people (shopping, snacks, hot pot, streets, markets, etc.). If you want to say the most likely way to capture the feel of Hong Kong, Jiefangbei is definitely one of them.
Although it has a strong business atmosphere and is crowded with tourists, I still put it in the top 1 recommendation for visiting Chongqing.
The full name of the Liberation Monument is "People's Liberation Monument". It is located in the center of the commercial area of Yuzhong District, Chongqing, at the intersection of Minzu Road, Minquan Road and Zourong Road. It is one of Chongqing's landmark buildings and a historical witness to the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the liberation of Chongqing. It is the only national monument in the country commemorating the victory of the Chinese nation's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.
Jiefangbei has supported Chongqing's past and present. Today, it's synonymous with the Jiefangbei Central Business District, one of Chongqing's ten cultural symbols. It's the only established financial CBD in western China, known as the "First Street of the West," and has been designated a National Characteristic Cultural Square, a National Demonstration Site for Spiritual Civilization, and one of China's ten new landmark business districts.
In September 2016, the Chongqing People's Liberation Monument was selected into the "First Batch of China's 20th Century Architectural Heritage" list.
After eating and strolling, we wandered to the Bayi shopping district. I took a few photos outside the Chongqing Art Museum and, on my way to the restroom, stumbled upon the popular online shop LINE FRIENDS from a few years ago. There's also one in Nanjing. A couple of years ago, the line to get in was incredibly long, but now it's easy to find a seat. So, while online influencers and fashion are constantly evolving, it's those with a bit of heritage that stand the test of time.
For example: Jiefangbei! It's still the same as it was three years ago, and the lighting is even better. After all, it's one of the city's calling cards. It's so inspiring from every angle! I don't really like joining in the fun, but since I'm here, I have to join in. So, next stop, Hongyadong?
Chongqing's Jiefangbei, like Beijing's Wangfujing and Shanghai's Nanjing Road, has always been the heart of the city's core, and will remain so forever. Films and TV series like "Crazy Stone," "The Door," and "Passing by Your World" have all been filmed here. As the face of Chongqing, it's naturally a must-see for both food and shopping.
The Jiefang Monument is a landmark building in Chongqing, located in the heart of the commercial district of Yuzhong District, at the intersection of Minzu Road, Minquan Road, and Zou Rong Road. The monument stands 27.5 meters tall and is reached by a spiral staircase. Atop the monument are a clock, directional signs, and a wind speed and vane.
The Liberation Monument was originally built on March 12, 1940, the anniversary of Sun Yat-sen's death. It was completed at the end of 1941 and named the "Spiritual Fortress" to inspire the Chinese people to fight hard and achieve victory. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, it was renamed the "Anti-Japanese War Victory Monument." In 1950, Liu Bocheng renamed it the "Chongqing People's Liberation Monument."
The Jiefangbei Monument records the history and culture of Chongqing and supports the past and future of Chongqing. Today, the Jiefangbei Monument has become a synonym for the Central Business District, a city card at the core of Chongqing, and one of the ten cultural symbols of Chongqing.
The Liberation Monument, formerly known as the Anti-Japanese War Victory Monument, is the only national monument in China commemorating the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. It commemorates Chongqing's great contribution to the nation. It stands as a historical witness to the victory of the Anti-Japanese War and the liberation of Chongqing. The monument is mostly white, with some areas of flesh-colored. Several large bells face in all directions, ringing at the top of the hour. The tower is octagonal, with several antennas at its summit. Today, it serves as a popular shopping street and shopping plaza for Chongqing residents, offering a wide variety of goods, including shopping, dining, and leisure activities.
Standing there and looking up, you'll truly feel like you're in an international metropolis. Visiting Chongqing without visiting Jiefangbei is like visiting Xiamen without visiting Gulangyu Island, or visiting Beijing without visiting the Great Wall. You absolutely have to make the trip; it's worth it. Otherwise, how would you know Chongqing's commercial splendor is truly vibrant? There's also the Apple Store, a completely transparent glass building. Descending the spiral staircase is awash in technological elements, reminiscent of Apple's design philosophy of minimalism. Jiefangbei is Chongqing's financial district.
The Liberation Monument is a landmark building in Chongqing and a must-see when visiting Chongqing. However, the 27.5-meter-high Liberation Monument now looks small because of the hundreds of meters high buildings built around it. Does it reflect the prosperity of Chongqing? Does it have to be built around the Liberation Monument? It depends on one's opinion.
The Monument to the Victory of the Anti-Japanese War and the People's Liberation Monument, abbreviated as "Liberation Monument", is located in the center of Jiefangbei Commercial Pedestrian Street in Yuzhong District, Chongqing. Construction began on October 31, 1946 and was completed in August 1947. It is a spiritual symbol of the victory of the Anti-Japanese War and the only monument in China commemorating the victory of the Chinese people in the Anti-Japanese War. The front of the Monument to the Victory of the Anti-Japanese War and the People's Liberation Monument faces north and east. It is an octagonal column with a helmet-shaped reinforced concrete structure. The monument is 27.5 meters high and 2.55 meters long. There are eight floors inside and underground, with a spiral staircase leading to the top of the monument. There are self-ringing clocks on the four sides of the top of the monument facing the street. The monument platform is surrounded by flower beds, with a total area of 62 square meters and a protected area of 642 square meters. This place is a symbol of the victory of the Chinese people in the anti-fascist war, and also a symbol of the liberation of Chongqing and Chongqing City. [4]
Jiefangbei is Chongqing's old city center and a must-see for tourists. It's close to Hongyadong and other attractions, and local friends often recommend staying here for first-time visitors. I've been there many times and it's always crowded. The lights are brightly lit at night, and the crowds only disperse around 10 p.m., when the lights gradually dim. However, the surrounding area offers a wide variety of food, drinks, and entertainment options, all open throughout the day.
The People's Liberation Monument, a symbol of Chongqing's liberation and the city itself, is located here. Jiefangbei Commercial Pedestrian Street and Bayi Road Food Street are both located here. Hongyadong, the Yangtze River Cableway, and Metro Lines 1, 2, and 6 are all within a 10-minute walk. Numerous hotels, shopping malls, supermarkets, restaurants, and snack shops are all nearby, making accommodation, dining, and transportation very convenient.
The People's Liberation Monument is a landmark in Chongqing, a historical witness to the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the liberation of Chongqing. The Jiefangbei Pedestrian Street, centered around the monument, stretches out in all directions, paved with 400,000 granite tiles. The Jiefangbei crossroads (22,400 square meters, encompassing Minquan Road, Minzu Road, and Zourong Road) have been transformed into the Jiefangbei Central Shopping Plaza, western China's first commercial pedestrian street. Starting in the evening, the area around Jiefangbei sees an increasing number of people, offering a variety of dining, entertainment, and entertainment options.
It's a landmark in Chongqing! It's the only national monument in China commemorating the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, honoring Chongqing's great contribution to the nation. It stands as a historical witness to the victory and the liberation of Chongqing. The octagonal monument's bell chimes every hour. The area around Jiefangbei is Chongqing's bustling CBD, home to China's first commercial pedestrian street, and is always bustling with activity.
Located in the heart of Jiefangbei Commercial Pedestrian Street in Yuzhong District, Chongqing, Jiefangbei Monument stands as a spiritual symbol of victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and is the only monument in China commemorating the victory of the Chinese people in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. Chime clocks are installed on the four sides of the monument, facing the street, and flower beds surround the platform. It symbolizes the victory of the Chinese people in the anti-fascist war, the liberation of Chongqing, and the city of Chongqing itself.
Every city has a must-visit pedestrian street. Jiefangbei is a popular pedestrian street in Chongqing. The difference is that it is filled with various famous brands and shopping malls, and next to it is a popular and affordable food street. Food is really everywhere.
Jiefangbei is one of the landmarks of Chongqing. At the intersection centered on Jiefangbei are Bayi Square, Bayi Food Street, WFC World Financial Center, etc. This is one of the most prosperous business districts in Chongqing, and also the place where the most people gather.
Located in the heart of the commercial pedestrian street, Jiefangbei (Liberation Monument) stands as a spiritual symbol of victory during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and is the only monument in China commemorating the victory of the Chinese people in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. A high-rise building nearby plays a looping message: "Jiefangbei CBD Welcomes You~." The area is conveniently located near Hongyadong and Bayi Road Food Street.
After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, the Nationalist government relocated its capital to Chongqing. To mobilize the people to resist the Japanese and save the nation, the Liberation Monument, originally named the Anti-Japanese War Victory Monument, was erected in the central district of Chongqing on December 31, 1941. It is the only national monument in China commemorating the victory of the Chinese people in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and honoring Chongqing's great contributions to the nation.

In 1997, the Chongqing Municipal and Yuzhong District governments invested 30 million yuan to transform the Jiefangbei Cross area, centered around Jiefangbei (a monument commemorating the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression), into China's first commercial pedestrian street: the Jiefangbei Central Shopping Plaza. It is now the most influential regional commercial district and a key business district in western China.
As soon as I got off the bus, I was hit by the unexpected aroma of hot pot. I had finally arrived in Chongqing. The lights were dazzling, and the city was bustling with activity. The surrounding buildings were incredibly tall, so tall that the rooftops looked like they could cure cervical spondylosis. The only place I can think of where I was last struck by the height and density of buildings was Hong Kong. Chongqing's skyscrapers had a similar aura, but without the Hong Kong "keep-away" feeling of grandeur. They felt somehow down-to-earth and not overwhelming. Perhaps the large, simplified Chinese characters on the shop signs played a significant role in this.
I took the subway to Linjiangmen Station and arrived at Chongqing Pedestrian Street. The Jiefang Monument, the centerpiece of Chongqing Pedestrian Street, is arguably the most iconic landmark in downtown Chongqing. It's the only monument in my country commemorating the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. It was built on March 12, 1940, the anniversary of Dr. Sun Yat-sen's death. It wasn't the busiest time, but taking photos was still difficult. People were packed together, and even those not taking photos had filled up all the available seating at the base of the Jiefang Monument.
Every city has a famous street, and Jiefangbei Pedestrian Street has long been Chongqing's bustling commercial center. Home to numerous department stores, hotels, and restaurants, it's a popular destination for shopping, dining, and strolling, and a trendy landmark. Here are a few tips:
1. The best means of transportation is to take Subway Line 2 and get off at Linjiangmen Station, or Subway Line 1 or 6 and get off at Xiaoshizi Station;
2. The shopping malls along the pedestrian street are open from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Don't forget to buy some Chongqing specialties for your friends and family. Recommended items include concentrated hot pot soup base, Dengying beef, Baishiyi pressed duck, Jiangjin rice candy, Chen fried dough twist, hot and sour pickled chicken feet, Fuling pickled mustard greens, Wulong okra dried tofu, Hechuan peach slices, and strange-flavored broad beans.
3. Highly recommended dishes: Haoyoulai Hot and Sour Noodles, Huashi Pea Noodles, Shancheng Small Glutinous Rice Balls, Xiangcunji, Spicy Noodles, Lao Ma Wonton, Malice's Grilled Chicken, Indian Frying Pancakes, etc.
4. The Jiefang Monument on the pedestrian street is the only monument in China commemorating the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. It is also a must-see place in the movie "Passing by Your World". There are also other attractions such as Nengren Temple, Luohan Temple, Hongyadong, etc. near the pedestrian street. You must go shopping after eating and drinking.
The famous Liberation Monument, originally the "Monument to the Victory of the Anti-Japanese War" and also known as the "People's Liberation Monument", is located in the central area of Chongqing. Its status is estimated to be equivalent to that of the People's Square in Shanghai.
Surrounding shopping malls, food streets, and various attractions are very convenient.
There are so many shopping malls around Jiefangbei and its surroundings, but unfortunately, I went in July and it was so hot, so hot, so hot... Without walking around, my camera lens would be covered in mist just by stepping outside. Jiefangbei is not far from Luohan Temple, so you can walk all the way there. I looked it up and found that the stone tablet, embedded in the outside of the monument base, is engraved with the following: "The Order Designating Chongqing as the Secondary Capital," "The Inscription to Commemorate the Victory of the Anti-Japanese War" by Wu Dingchang, and an article by Zhang Qun chronicling Chongqing's contributions to the war. The front of the monument, facing Minzu Road, is inscribed with seven large official script characters, written by Zhang Dulun: "The Inscription to Commemorate the Victory of the Anti-Japanese War." The inscription at the bottom reads: "Inscribed by Liu Bocheng on the First National Day of 1950." It's a treasure trove of history!
The Jiefang Monument is a historical witness to the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the liberation of Chongqing. It is the only theme monument in the country commemorating the victory of the National War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. Today, the business district here has become the largest business district in Chongqing. It is beautiful both during the day and at night. There are many special snacks here. Some stores are too small to have places to sit, so everyone can eat without worrying about their image and standing on the street.
The hotel is nearby, so I can visit here several times a day, after visiting during the day, and then at night. As expected, big cities are always so crowded and lively. It is a must-visit place when you come to Chongqing.
The commercial street is still okay to go to at night, but it's too tiring.
The only monument in China commemorating the victory of the Chinese nation in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression is worth visiting.
The Jiefangbei Monument is a must-see spot for tourists in Chongqing. The area around the monument is also a shopping district worth visiting.
It's just a stone tablet, nothing else for checking in and taking photos
A must-see spot for Chongqing tourists, it's packed with people! Great for both day and night, and the light show at night is stunning!
The center of Chongqing city is a great place for shopping and you can find a lot of delicious food.
The monument commemorating the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression is surrounded by the most prosperous area in Chongqing city.
You can stroll around the pedestrian street around Jiefangbei. The shops are full of local specialties, hot pot ingredients and strange-flavored beans. The strange-flavored beans are quite delicious and worth trying.
In the heart of Chongqing, the street scenes and girls are very beautiful
The only theme monument in China commemorating the victory of the National Anti-Japanese War. The Chongqing Art Museum next to it is closed at night.
Tourist gathering place, landmark building, suitable for walking and taking pictures
Chongqing's most famous pedestrian street is mainly a commercial street. You can just come here to take pictures. There is nothing much to visit. I also met Miss Feng Timo at night.
Jiefangbei is in the center of Chongqing and you can pass by it both day and night.
The Jiefangbei Monument is particularly beautiful at night. It happened to be Teacher's Day. The Jiefangbei Monument repeatedly had the blessing of "Happy Teacher's Day" appearing, which was very thoughtful.
A must-see attraction, it is equally lively no matter day or night. The nearby Bayi Road Food Street is also very lively, so you can go shopping there.
In fact, the shopping mall is more lively here. If you want to eat, drink and shop, you can come and see it.
Comparison between day and night. Chongqing's night view is still recognized
A must-see place in Chongqing, with many shopping places around it.
Chongqing's landmark building, located in the center of Chongqing, is the site of a large gathering every Christmas.
Jiefangbei is just that, but the main attraction is not the surrounding shopping malls and the observation deck on top of WFC.
The Liberation People's Monument Valley stands in the city center! The night view is even more beautiful, and the flowers around it are gorgeous. People took photos here.
It is also one of Chongqing's landmark buildings, very similar to Nanjing Road or Wangfujing.
I used my phone's navigation to search for the place for a long time, and then took a few photos to successfully check in, haha ~ The business districts are all pretty much the same, but new is always good, it's still not bad!
Well, it has been protected by the business circle. I live nearby and have to go around Jiefangbei every day to go back.
It is a bustling business district with tall buildings, making eating, living and transportation very convenient.
If you don't want to go shopping, you don't have to come. The monument itself is not worth visiting for a long time. It only takes half an hour to take pictures and read the explanation of the monument.
The check-in spot, I heard it is in the city center, the surrounding area is very prosperous, and it seems to be not far from the Bayi Food Street. Then we ate at Jiugongge there.
Maybe because of the terrain, I still prefer the flat feeling of Chengdu Chunxi Road!
How should I put it? Chongqing's most prosperous business district has a modern look that has a Hong Kong feel, but it's really crowded, so it's suitable for city photography enthusiasts.
A must-visit place in Chongqing, with many beauties and delicious food nearby
A landmark building, everyone from Chongqing goes there, it’s not a big place but very famous!
I have been to Jiefangbei three times in total. I remember that the first time was when I graduated from high school. I didn’t take many photos at that time. I went there a third time when I went there and when I came back, with my parents. I felt that the place was very nice, with iconic buildings, lots of food, and many supermarkets. It was often featured on Douyin.
A piece of historical memory, a landmark building in Chongqing, charming and bustling at night.
The pedestrian street is crowded with people, especially at night, and there are many beautiful women.
There are many shopping malls around Chongqing Jiefangbei Pedestrian Street, similar to Harbin's Central Street. It's okay to just stroll around.

This is a place where locals and outsiders go. It is very beautiful at night.
Chongqing check-in spot, how can you not check in here when you come to Chongqing? !
There is nothing special about Jiefangbei. It is located in the center of Chongqing and is surrounded by large shopping malls. It is a landmark building. You can take photos and check in there.
Chongqing's most famous landmark is a large business district with various large shopping malls, specialty stores, internet-famous food stores, and snacks nearby.
Landmark building. I always stay near here. It is also close to Hongyadong. There are shopping malls around, so it is very convenient to buy things.
During the 2019 Spring Festival, the lighting effects at Jiefangbei were very rich and lively.
Chongqing Jiefangbei is one of the most famous landmarks in Chongqing. It can be said to be the most prosperous area in Chongqing and a well-deserved commercial center.
Jiefangbei is the only national monument in China commemorating the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. It is a monumental building that commemorates the victory of the war and the liberation of Chongqing, and is of great significance. Jiefangbei Square is always bustling with people, and many tourists come here every day to take photos. It is a must-see for tourists visiting Chongqing and a popular spot for street photography, where beautiful models can often be seen.
During the day, Jiefangbei boasts a vibrant, modern atmosphere, with its numerous skyscrapers. At night, it bustles with people, becoming the epicenter of Chongqing's nightlife for both locals and tourists. Regardless of the time of year, Jiefangbei is a great place for photos, whether on the street or on the rooftops of nearby buildings.
When I was visiting Chongqing, I would wander around Jiefangbei every night to try the local food. It was also a great place to go shopping and take photos.
