Luohan Temple

It was first built in the Northern Song Dynasty and got its name from the 500 Arhat statues in the temple. It is said that the Arhat Temple is very effective and has always been very popular.
Entering the temple gate, you can see the Ancient Buddha Rock, which is about 20 meters long. There are hundreds of Song Dynasty rock carvings of Buddha statues in various shapes and lifelike.
There is also a large area of wishing lanterns at the back door. Even if you don’t go in, you can stop and look at the exquisite wood carvings on the gate.
Since the filming of the movie "Crazy Stone", it has become famous and has become a must-see for tourists.

We took the bus to Luohan Temple. Actually, we were not very interested in this kind of Buddhist temple, but we both liked the movie "Crazy Stone" so much that we might as well check out its filming location since we were there.

As soon as you enter, you can feel the solemnity of the Buddhist holy land. There are many Arhat statues, Buddha statues and Guanyin statues inside.

Although I don't believe in any religion, every time I come to such a sacred place I dare not take pictures, for fear of touching the gods. Haha, I don't understand what kind of mentality this is...

By Going to Yunzhou alone |

It was raining when I went, so it wasn't crowded. But the scenery, as is, was like a scene from "Crazy Stone," just a quick check-in. Maybe it's because a lot of things there have become commercialized. My opinion on this is that I've seen it before. I still respect the gods, but I just don't appreciate some things.

Luohan Temple, formerly known as Zhiping Temple, houses over 400 Northern Song Dynasty stone statues, large and small, carved on the Ancient Buddha Cliff; Ming Dynasty steles and bronze Buddha statues; and over 500 Qing Dynasty wood reliefs, gold-bodied, and colored clay Arhat statues.

Not far from Hongyadong, it's like Shanghai's Jing'an Temple, tucked away in the heart of the city, where every inch of land is valuable. This is the filming location for "Crazy Stone," but you can't really see much of the film; you have to imagine it all. When I visited, it was mostly under construction, looking quite messy, and there wasn't much to see.

By What about the officers? |

During the two and a half days in Chongqing, I passed by this place countless times, but never went in to take a look. Haha, I can only go in next time.

By Little Titi's old father |

I saw this temple when I was passing by and didn't go in. It was purely out of personal preference. I have never liked attractions like temples, Taoist temples and stone carvings. Friends who are interested can go in and take a look.

As a Buddhist, I must come to the temple to worship, Amitabha.

By Lonely old soul |

The temple is famous for the movie Crazy Stone. There are many Arhat statues enshrined in the temple, and many locals go to worship. Looking at the temple from the outside is already very impressive.

Chongqing seems to be a popular filming location for many directors, so even a single temple has been chosen, such as the Luohan Temple. This temple gained widespread recognition thanks to the film "Crazy Stone." The 10 yuan entrance fee includes a lotus lantern and three incense sticks. The day I visited was the first day of the Lunar New Year, so the temple was packed. Overall, the temple isn't very large, but it's quite exquisite, making it no wonder directors choose it as a filming location. It's worth mentioning that there's an Arhat Hall in a small corner of the temple, housing 500 Arhat statues. If you can't find them, ask the monks. The temple's name comes from these 500 Arhats, and they're said to be very effective. A staff member at the entrance will tell you to find the guardian Arhat Temple for your birthday. Once you've found it, you can go to the entrance to have your fortune read.

By Let me take a look |

Anyone who has seen "Crazy Stone" must experience Luohan Temple. The ticket is not expensive, but the "professional" beggars who sell tickets are a bit annoying. I feel embarrassed and embarrassed. I feel embarrassed and embarrassed.

By Help me pick up the charge silencer |

Luohan Temple is the filming location of Crazy Stone. There is an Luohan Hall inside which is quite interesting. There are 500 different Luohan Buddha statues, which is quite spectacular. We looked around and found that we can count the Luohan inside, and then the master will tell you the fortune of this year.

By Meet Stefanie |

The entrance fee is 10 yuan. Luohan Temple is located in a high-rise building, and the surrounding buildings are under renovation. It is not big inside and you can walk around it in a short time. The crazy stone is also used as a scene here.

I got to know Luohan Temple because of the movie Crazy Stone. The ticket price is 10 yuan. There is a different world inside the temple.

We passed by Luohan Temple, which is famous for its "crazy stones". The overall area of Luohan Temple is very small and can be visited in ten minutes. The ticket price is 10 yuan. There is a row of mottled stone carvings in the temple as the only attraction. It has been eroded by time and only the general outline of the Buddha statue can be seen.

By Maple Travel World |

Luohan Temple's fame is largely attributed to the film "Crazy Stone," which first introduced Chongqing to the public. Its location is remarkably secluded within the city, conveniently located near the bustling Xiaoshizi Station in Yuzhong District. A ten-minute walk from the Yangtze River Cableway entrance leads to the temple's main entrance. Compared to the surrounding skyscrapers, the temple's entrance is modest and understated.

My first impression would have been better if there weren't a few beggars at the door.

Although the entrance is small, the interior of the Luohan Temple is quite spacious with three entrances and three exits. In particular, the well-preserved cliff Buddha carvings, the Luohan Hall, and the last lamp-lighting hall all reflect the unique temperament of the Luohan Temple.

The further we went, the fewer tourists there were and the more dilapidated the buildings became. Inside the Lantern Hall, there were almost no tourists, and the building hadn't been repaired in years. Because of the plot of the movie, I even went to the back courtyard to look for the sewer that the characters used to enter, but I couldn't find it.

By Sunny snow on the road |

Recommended reason: The thousand-year-old temple is not far from Jiefangbei, Hongyadong, and the Yangtze River Cableway. Buddhists can go there to worship.

The stone from the movie "Crazy Stone" is housed in this Luohan Temple. When I arrived, the ticket seller was leaving his shift and had a stack of tickets. I bought one, but he didn't give me a candle or incense stick, and he had already locked the door. There was still construction going on nearby, so it was a bit noisy, but walking through the temple brought a sense of peace. The corridor in the center of the Ancient Buddha Rock was lined with cushions for worshippers to kneel on. Since it was after opening hours, the Luohan Hall and the Main Hall were closed, making my ten yuan worth of money seem like a poor investment. The Luohan Temple is small, and I finished it in less than ten minutes. Don't bother with fortune-tellers if you encounter them nearby.

Recommendation index: two stars

This is the filming location of "Crazy Stone". You need to pay 8 yuan for incense money to enter. I think it's okay here. It's quite good. It has an antique style and a southwestern style of stilt houses.

By Gu Beiliangcheng |

Most temples you usually see are in the suburbs, but this one is actually in the downtown area, right around Hongyadong and Jiefangbei. The Luohan Temple's sign isn't huge, but once inside, I was in a completely different world. The 500 Arhats were incredibly lifelike. My dad said there are actually over 400 Song Dynasty Buddhist statues still preserved here, which is quite remarkable. I was actually lucky to remember the number 400. I wasn't interested in my dad's science fiction at all.

Maybe it's due to disrepair or some other reason, but the damage here is actually quite serious.

Chongqing Luohan Temple is a famous temple, but it is currently occupied by monks who kill animals, eat meat, and drink alcohol! Chongqing Net has exposed that the abbot of Luohan Temple does not care about the matter. The deputy abbot, Shi Zhiguan, molested Master Hong Chan's daughter-in-law, but was protected by the abbot and paid 30,000 yuan to settle the matter. He has been the deputy abbot until now. Everyone must be careful not to be cheated by monks like Shi Zhiguan, Shi Jinghui, Shi Hengshang, Shi Jingjie, and Shi Jingci.

By Ameng |

This is a place that my friend specifically requested to visit because the jade factory in the movie "Crazy Stone" was filmed here.

Why are there so many fire trucks parked at the temple gate? You will find out once you enter.

From the outside, it looks like a small temple surrounded by high-rise buildings, but when you walk inside, you will find a different world.

Opening hours: 8:00-17:00, ticket price is 10 yuan, cash, WeChat or Alipay are both accepted, including three incense sticks and a lotus candle, remember to take it.

The smoke in front of the main hall was thick with incense, and many locals came to burn incense. A devout woman, noticing my naiveté, offered to teach me how to borrow a flame. After praying outside the main hall, I lit the incense before entering. After I finished praying, I realized there were differences between Chongqing and Zhejiang in worship: we hold the incense upright, held in front of our chests, while in Chongqing, they hold it horizontally, raised above their heads.

Most of the buildings in the backyard and on both sides are newly built or under construction. No wonder there are several fire trucks parked at the door.

Coming out of the Main Hall and walking forward, you will find the Arhat Hall (I didn't take any photos because you can't take photos of Buddha and tombs casually). It can be said that this is the most worth-seeing part of the Arhat Temple. As soon as you enter the door, you will see the Eighteen Bronze Men (if I'm not mistaken, there are eighteen golden statues). There are also more than 500 Arhat statues of various shapes, some with glaring eyes, some with closed eyes in meditation, some with a smile on their faces, and some concentrating on thought... The indoor lighting was very dim, and the narrow aisles were lined with towering clay statues. Although I had done nothing wrong, I was still very nervous and walked around with my head down, holding my friend's arm.

I hope that the Buddha, who is busy with all kinds of affairs, will not be too busy and will grant my wish.

Do you still remember the movie "Crazy Stone" starring Guo Tao and Huang Bo? The stone was placed in this Luohan Temple, but it has been renovated now and is no longer as shabby as it was back then.

You must pay ten yuan to enter, and you will be given a candle and incense to burn incense and pray for blessings.

This temple seems to have invested a lot of money and is very luxurious

The black shadows on both sides are filled with deities. Did you see a woman sitting in the second row? She was talking to herself from the time I entered until I came out, as if she was chatting with someone. But there was nothing beside her except the statue of the deity. It was so strange.

Compared to the dilapidated state when the filming of "Crazy Stone" was filmed in 2006, the Luohan Temple is now in a patchwork shape. It can be said that it is brand new.

But what annoyed me was that I walked around and found that the doors inside were all closed, and I couldn't see the Arhats. I wanted to play the game of counting Arhats, but they said that the doors would open at 8:00 and close at 17:30. It was already 18:30, no wonder, what a pity.

This thousand-year-old temple sits in Chongqing's bustling city center. Surrounded by dozens of skyscrapers, the InterContinental Hotel and the Oriental Manhattan—their names alone evoke a modern atmosphere. A bustling stream of people streams in and out of its gates. Modernity and tradition, trendy and ancient, bustling and tranquil—all separated by a single wall. Secluded from the hustle and bustle of the bustling city, this place welcomes everyone with a sincere heart. They pray before the Buddha, wishing for the blessing of their loved ones.

The entrance fee is 10 yuan, and includes three incense sticks and a pink lotus-shaped candle. However, the staff didn't remind me of this until I was reminded. Luohan Temple was built during the Zhiping period of the Song Dynasty (1064-1067) and rebuilt in the 17th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign (1752). In the 11th year of Emperor Guangxu's reign (1885), the abbot of Zhiping Temple, Monk Longfa, built the Hall of Five Hundred Arhats, and the temple was renamed Luohan Temple. During the Anti-Japanese War, Luohan Temple was bombed by Japanese aircraft. Buddhist restoration efforts were carried out in 1945, but the clay statues of the Five Hundred Arhats within the Hall were mostly destroyed. Luohan Temple is named after the Arhat Cave, which houses 500 Arhats in various forms. Although these are modern replicas, they are remarkably lifelike and remarkably lifelike. Within Luohan Temple lies an ancient Buddha rock over 20 meters long, housing over 400 Song Dynasty rock-carved Buddha statues. The style is similar to that of the Beishan Grottoes in Dazu, but these statues are only outlined, with facial details blurred and severely damaged. Upon entering the temple, one can see the ancient Buddha rock, over 20 meters long, housing hundreds of Song Dynasty rock-carved Buddha statues, each in a unique and lifelike form. Get off at Xiaoshizi Station on Line 1 or Line 6. Ticket price: 10 yuan per person

A temple with a cave first and a temple later. I came here because of the movie "Crazy Stone". You can see the temple as soon as you exit the subway station, but it seemed to be under renovation at the time, and part of the temple was fenced off at the back.

By Xiaoxiao Xianger |

The ticket didn't have the tax bureau logo, so I didn't pay taxes. There was a woman at the door who would grab you by the hand, but I shook her off. It was annoying. I was inside for about ten minutes and then got out. There was construction going on around here, so the noise was quite loud. The Arhat Hall was pretty good.

Luohan Temple is the exhibition venue for Crazy Stones among Stones, and various plans are staged around it.

Luohan Temple is located in the heart of the city, right by the Xiaoshizi subway station, offering convenient access. Surrounded by bustling businesses, a small path leads to the main gate only a few dozen meters away, creating a tranquil retreat amidst the hustle and bustle. Currently undergoing renovations, the temple stands out amidst the concrete and steel.

When we arrived, the tour time had passed and we couldn't enter. We could only take pictures at the gate.

The main purpose was to restore the filming location of Crazy Stone, but with the passage of time, the gate has changed a lot and it is almost unrecognizable as it was in the original movie.

As the name suggests, the most famous temple in this area is the Hall of Five Hundred Arhats. "Counting the Arhats" is a fun activity. Follow the signs outside the hall to find your own Arhat, draw a fortune stick, and have the temple's master interpret it for you. If you're interested, give it a try.

Luohan Temple does not cover a large area, and the arrangement of the halls is not the traditional front and back courtyards of Han temples. Several large halls are moved around in a small area, which seems to fit the characteristics of the mountain city.

By Probably or possibly |

Crazy Stone filmed here before. After a round of ups and downs, we found the Luohan Temple next to the construction site. We didn't go in because we were just looking around, not planning to worship. I found it quite magical to find such a quiet space amidst the noise of the construction site in the middle of the city.

Not far above Hongya Cave is the temple where the film "Crazy Stone" was filmed. It's a self-contained temple amidst the teeming skyscrapers. You can experience the Buddhist scriptures you see copied in novels here, too.

Excluding the above, the architecture is still very beautiful. The temple surrounded by the downtown area is also very magical when you think about it.

Chongqing's Luohan Temple isn't nestled amidst a renowned mountain or a tranquil suburb, but rather nestled amidst the bustling city. It's named for the 524 exquisitely shaped and expressive Luohan statues within the temple. Originally built during the Zhiping period of the Northern Song Dynasty, Luohan Temple boasts a history of over a thousand years and is a key temple in the Han ethnic region of China.

Luohan Temple, located on Minzu Road in Yuzhong District, is one of the key Buddhist temples in Han Chinese areas nationwide. The Chongqing Buddhist Association is also located here. Originally named Zhiping Temple, Luohan Temple was built during the Zhiping period of the Northern Song Dynasty (1064-1067). The temple was built because of the Luohan Cave. "Records of Famous Places in Shu" states: "Zhiping Temple...has two caves, Luohan and Xiantian, both ancient caves." Within Luohan Temple, the over 20-meter-long Ancient Buddha Rock houses over 400 Song Dynasty rock-carved Buddhist statues, including a Reclining Buddha (commonly known as the "Sleeping Buddha"), Guanyin statues, and donors, all of which resemble the stone carvings of Baoding Mountain in Dazu.

Although it's located in the city center, its style is completely different from Shanghai's Jing'an Temple, which is also located in the bustling city. The ticket is ten yuan, which is worth it. There are many beggars at the door, but that's the case in temples everywhere.

Ancient and famous temples are often hidden within deep forests. Standing tall amidst a forest of concrete, Luohan Temple seems so out of place, yet it also lends a certain mystique and charm. This thousand-year-old temple is situated in the heart of Chongqing's bustling city center. Surrounded by dozens of-story buildings, its gates are a constant stream of vehicles and people.

I visited this place when I was very young, back when there was no entrance fee. It's such a distant memory, I only vaguely remember my mother taking me to touch the "Laughing Arhat," the Maitreya Buddha. He looked so adorable and delighted. Over 20 years have passed, and while the road to Jiefangbei has been widened and the surrounding buildings have grown taller, Luohan Temple remains unshaken. Tickets are 10 yuan each, and you can receive incense for free.

"The smallest secluded place is in the forest, the greatest secluded place is in the city"—this is probably the highest state of mind. Luohan Temple safeguards the peaceful and tranquility between the secular and Buddhist worlds.

We didn't go in, so we can't give an accurate evaluation. We just took a photo here on the way to Hongyadong.

Luohan Temple, located in Yuzhong District, Chongqing, was built during the Northern Song Dynasty and is named for the 500 Luohan statues within the temple. Visitors can count the Luohan statues to find their guardian Luohan. Upon entering the temple, one can see the ancient Buddha Rock, over 20 meters long, which houses over 400 Song Dynasty rock carvings, some of which resemble the stone carvings of Baoding Mountain in Dazu. The temple's main hall houses numerous Buddhist art treasures, including statues of the Sixteen Arhats, representing the Buddha's 16 most accomplished students; Ming Dynasty bronze statues of the "Three Holy Ones of the West"; a Burmese jade Buddha statue of the "Sakyamuni Buddha's Enlightenment"; and a replica of the Indian mural "Sakyamuni Leaving the Palace to Become a Monk."

Note: The entrance fee to Luohan Temple is 10 yuan per person, and you can get incense for free after entering the temple.

The surrounding skyscrapers make Luohan Temple seem so small. If it weren't for the movie "Crazy Stone", many tourists might not know about this thousand-year-old temple. I always have a good impression of temples that give out free incense and lotus candles.

Walking into the temple, one can't help but sigh that there is such a quiet place in the bustling city. The green lamps, ancient Buddhas, and curling incense can make people's hearts calm down all of a sudden.

This is just a temple I visited on the way that day, and I think it is still a place worth seeing.

Luohan Temple is near Jiefangbei. It costs money to enter. If you want to count the Luohans, you can go in and visit!

Crazy Stone filming location, the Arhat statues listed inside are very solemn, there is always a mysterious power that makes people feel solemn

I went there just because it was one of the filming locations for Crazy Stone. Actually, there is nothing special about such a temple in the city. They are all similar.
