We went in mid-December. The 2:00 PM boat departed promptly. There was heavy fog in the morning, but it cleared somewhat in the afternoon. The most mysterious of the Lesser Three Gorges are the hanging coffins. They are located in a rectangular cave on the yellow-brown cliffs on the east bank of Bawu Gorge. During the Dragon Boat Festival holiday in June 2013, my wife and I took a New Century Cruise from Yichang and toured the Three Gorges route. We changed to a small boat to tour the Little Three Gorges. The scenery was the most beautiful and the cruise service was also very good. It is highly recommended.

We traveled from Baidi City, the Three Gorges Dam, and the Three Gorges Villages to visit the Little Three Gorges. The Little Three Gorges tour, departing from Wushan, took about four hours. Parking was charged hourly, and the entire tour cost 20 yuan. Tickets were purchased online for 110 yuan each, and the tickets came with a card (which had to be collected before boarding). The boat had three decks. The first and second decks were free, while the third deck had a 30 yuan per seat fee (including tea and water). Inside the third-floor cabin, there was another 50 yuan per seat. The entire itinerary wasn't as packed with attractions as my previous visit, which is understandable, considering the Little Three Gorges itself. The monkeys and hanging coffins were a few of the more pleasant surprises. The most striking feature of this boat ride was the chickens and CDs. On the return voyage, they twice recruited all the tourists into the cabin: once to sell chickens, and once to sell CDs. They patiently and tirelessly engaged, from the starting point to the final destination. By the way, let me talk about the Little Three Gorges. The boat we took was forty people. When we first got on board, the boatman was very enthusiastic, standing at the bow, introducing us and singing. I thought it was pretty good at the time. While listening to the introduction and folk songs, we sat in the boat and enjoyed the scenery. Tourists and boatman interacted and laughed continuously. Just when you feel a little comfortable, the key point comes. The boatman began to complain and asked us to give 30 yuan each. After he said this, the whole boat fell silent and stopped interacting with him. He continued to complain and did not introduce the attractions. Anyway, the key word is money. 30 yuan in exchange for a keychain with "Little Three Gorges" engraved on it. He said that this money was to help them, the old immigrants, and wished us good rewards for our good deeds. Everyone on the boat was reluctant, and no one said a word when we returned. In the end, the few people we played with gave a total of 30 yuan. It's up to you if you want it or not. If the scenic area does this, it will not help the "old Three Gorges people" as the boatman said, but will affect the tourists' impression of the hospitable Three Gorges people, which is disgusting.

Tickets cost 120 yuan. You can first take a large boat to visit the Little Three Gorges, and then switch to a small boat to visit the Small Three Gorges. The whole journey takes about 3.5 hours.



Putting aside the scenery, everyone has different opinions. After entering the Little Three Gorges and changing boats, the boatman started to tell stories and pity stories, selling key chains for 30 yuan each, saying they were for the mountain people, as if not buying one would be a mistake.



Suddenly I felt that the mountains and rivers were tasteless.



I hope the relevant departments can manage this properly. If the villagers on both sides of the strait are truly experiencing difficulties, please publicly disclose this information and add the money to the ticket price as a token of your love for the villagers, or open a donation channel. This practice of forcing business on the boat without knowing where the funds are going is truly unpleasant.

Drive to the Wushan Wharf parking lot for 18 yuan. The half-price admission to the Little Three Gorges is 75 yuan, which includes the Little Three Gorges. There are only two boat trips daily, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The boat departs at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 12 p.m. The Little Three Gorges refers to the section of canyons that stretch from the Yangtze River up the Daning River estuary. The Little Three Gorges are like the capillaries of the Yangtze River. I remember playing in the water on the riverbank and collecting Three Gorges stones when I visited as a child. I think it's a rip-off. It takes six hours to get from Chongqing to Wushan by car. The ticket to the small gorge costs 120 yuan and is booked online. You take a four-hour boat tour. The tour guide on the boat recommends various specialties for you to buy. You change to a small boat for 40 minutes to see the small gorge. The tour guide plays the sympathy card and asks for a tip as soon as you set off, and asks for it again when you come back. ~ ~ ~ The whole thing feels like you are traveling with a tour group, and it doesn't look like a regular 5A scenic spot. In short, I don't recommend coming here specifically to see the small gorge. You can make do with it if you pass by here. ~

Coming from Hubei, we'll reach Wushan—a Wushan without clouds. This is the Little Three Gorges Scenic Area. There are boat tours in Wushan, and the first one is supposed to depart at 6:30. Tickets can't be purchased in advance, though; they have to be bought on the day. There's a promotion going on right now: if you're planning a self-driving trip, you can redeem a 200-yuan self-driving travel credit with your driver's license. Everything went according to plan, but when we arrived a little after 6:00, bought our tickets, and headed to the dock to board the boat, the first boat had already departed—and surprisingly, it wasn't even 6:30. The dock staff said the boats don't have fixed schedules. What a shock!

Then I waited at the dock for an hour before a boat came.

However, be sure to buy tickets at the officially designated ticket office. There are many illegal ships, so safety is the most important thing!

After the big boat has gone for a while, it is necessary to change to a small boat to go to a deeper canyon area. After changing to the small boat, the boatman began to sing local folk songs, and there were also people singing on the river bank. Everything was very beautiful again. At this time, the boatman changed the subject and began to complain, saying that after the construction of the Three Gorges Dam, they had no land and their lives were difficult. He then started to give very crudely made key chains to the tourists, and then charged 10 yuan for each one. How could they not pay after they had already charged? Of course, there were still some people who refused to pay, and then the boatman started to urge them, which really spoiled the fun!

Despite its name, the scenery at the Little Three Gorges is no less stunning and breathtaking than the Great Three Gorges. Switching from a large cruise ship to a smaller one, and touring the scenic area with the boatman and guide, is a truly unique experience. If time permits, it's best to take it slow so you can savor the breathtaking scenery. There are interactive activities along the way, such as taking photos wearing straw raincoats. A friendly reminder: the boat is moving, so please be careful.

Overall, the Little Three Gorges is worth a visit. You can see hanging coffins and wild goats, though I didn't see any macaques. The scenery is quite nice. There's a 10-yuan stop where you can disembark from the boat, but we didn't go and rested on the boat instead. I'd also recommend buying some food on the boat, which was quite nice. The boat was faster on the return trip, and the guide also bought wild pheasants for 100 yuan a bag, but we didn't. Five stars recommended.

The Wushan Little Three Gorges was very interesting before the water was stored, but it was just average after the water was stored.

The boat soon entered the Daning River, a tributary of the river. The water became clear, and sitting at the bow, feeling the cool breeze, lifted my spirits. But aside from the lush green mountains and clear waters, the sight quickly wore on, leaving little to see. The boatman described Longmen Gorge, Bawu Gorge, Dicui Gorge, and other gorges along the way, but they were all largely the same, nothing special. Curious, I asked the boatman why the "Wushan Clouds and Rain" scene was so famous, yet nothing could be seen here. Which mountain was actually called "Wushan"? The boatman explained that Wushan wasn't a specific mountain, but rather the entire Lesser Three Gorges region. Originally, the area was renowned for its surrounding mountains and shrouded in mist. However, due to the construction of the Three Gorges, the water level upstream has risen by over 170 meters. The once towering mountains have become mere hills, and the once turbulent rapids have become open water. The towering cliffs and puffy clouds are no longer there. Perhaps the scenery was a little ordinary, so the boatman seemed to be sorry for us and kept saying, "It would be more beautiful in autumn, with all the mountains covered in red leaves..."

On the morning of October 4th, after breakfast, I went to the Wushan Little Three Gorges Tourist Reception Center (at the Wushan County Tourist Wharf) to purchase my ticket. The original price was 150 yuan, but it was 120 yuan during the National Day holiday. The Little Three Gorges comprise Longmen Gorge, Bawu Gorge, and Dicui Gorge on the Daning River in Wushan. After our visit, the cruise ship docked and we boarded a black-sailed boat to explore the Little Three Gorges on the Madu River. The boatman dressed up and sang a few folk songs, then asked everyone to donate 10 yuan to the villagers along the Little Three Gorges. There were bamboo hats and straw raincoats on the boat, which we could wear for free and take photos.

I discovered that after the construction of the Three Gorges Dam, the flooded Little Three Gorges has lost its former grandeur, depth, and mystery. Today, as I rafted deeper into the Shisun River, I couldn't help but exclaim: This scenery is even better than the Little Three Gorges!

The water surface of the Little Three Gorges is one-tenth of that of the Wu Gorge, and you can clearly see both banks.

Although the Little Three Gorges is no longer as mysterious and beautiful as it once was, we still enjoyed three hours of leisurely and pleasant time.

I thought I would see red leaves covering the forest path

The Little Three Gorges is the most beautiful section of the Yangtze River Three Gorges tour. Although the weather was not good and it rained for a while, the clear water and towering cliffs made us fully feel like we were traveling in a painting. The scenery on both sides of the river is so beautiful that we never get tired of it. If we have the chance, we would like to visit it again.

The scenery of the Little Three Gorges is very beautiful, but after sitting on the boat for two and a half hours, it is inevitable that you will feel a little visually fatigued. After passing the Little Three Gorges, you should be out of Chongqing.

The whole tour is conducted on a slightly smaller boat. Every time we arrive at a place, the boat broadcasts an explanation. However, the canyon scenery is 30% similar to the original. I think the highlights are two points: one is the hanging coffins on the stone wall, and the other is the monkeys on the river bank.
