Turning east, we arrived at Chengtian Temple. There was a school next to the temple. It was the time of school dismissal and the place was extremely noisy.

But when you step into Chengtian Temple, the whole world becomes quiet in an instant!

I have to admire the temple builders' control over architecture and acoustics.

I also admire the awe-inspiring sense of tranquility that temples bring.

After the rain, the sky clears up, the glazed tiles are more shiny, and the grass and trees are greener!

The air is moist and full of Zen.

The biggest feeling in Chengtian Temple is peace and tranquility.

It's amazing that there is such a peaceful temple in the middle of such a busy city.

Chengtian Temple is a garden temple, which has always been favored by eminent monks. Master Hongyi had an indissoluble bond with it. During the Anti-Japanese War, he lived in the temple to preach and wrote the patriotic words "Remembering Buddha without forgetting to save the country". Chengtian Temple is also the place where the master was incarnated. Hongyi's relics are enshrined in Qingyuan Mountain in Quanzhou, but for some reason, the memorial hall of Master Hongyi was chosen to be in Dakaiyuan Temple.

Chengtian Temple, originally named Nanchan Temple, was built during the late Baoda period of the Southern Tang Dynasty and the early Zhongxing period (957-958). It was renamed Chengtian Temple in the fourth year of Jingde in the Northern Song Dynasty (1007).

Admission is free, opening hours: 8:00-17:30. No. 35, Nanjun Road, Licheng District, Quanzhou City.

Chengtian Temple appears more quiet and peaceful in the morning.

There are fewer people than Kaiyuan Temple, and it is quieter. It is small and very spacious inside. There is the Hongchuan Monk Memorial Hall and the reincarnation place of Master Hongyi. Those who are interested can learn about the relevant deeds.

A temple with an area no less than that of Kaiyuan Temple appeared before us. It used to be the private villa of the Jiedushi of the Five Dynasties, and was later converted into a temple.

Some people call this a city forest. The instructions for entering the temple read: "No noise, dress neatly, walk upright, and be pious."

The temples here are not as complicated as those in southern Fujian. They are more restrained and the decoration is very simple. Each scene and object is a reflection of the natural environment.

During the Ming Dynasty, many eminent monks successively resided in Chengtian Temple and made many achievements. It was rebuilt again in the early Qing Dynasty. During the heyday of Chengtian Temple, there were more than 40 halls, thousands of hectares of land, and more than 1,700 monks. In the late Qing Dynasty, Chengtian Temple declined, with dilapidated walls and broken tiles, and a desolate scene. Later, the monks vowed to repair the temple and build more dormitories. The temple was revived and looked brand new. In the early years of the Republic of China, after the death of Master Yunguo, Master Huiquan succeeded him as abbot. During the Anti-Japanese War, Master Hongyi and Master Xingyuan successively lived in the temple to preach and spread Buddhism, and organized a Buddhist research society. When Master Hongyi was preaching in the Yangzheng Courtyard of Chengtian Temple, he wrote a horizontal scroll: "Reciting the Buddha's name without forgetting to save the country, saving the country must recite the Buddha's name", expressing the patriotic heart of a Buddhist.

Another ancient site in Quanzhou, it is not as famous as Kaiyuan Temple, but its scale is not small. Here is a one-day tour route for ancient sites in Quanzhou: West Street - Kaiyuan Temple - Bell Tower - Weiyuan Tower - Yuanmiao Temple - Chengtian Temple - Bronze Buddha Temple - Tumen Street - Qingjing Mosque (ticket price 3 yuan) - Tonghuai Guanyue Temple - Tianhou Palace - Former Residence of Li Zhi - Jubao Street - Zhongshan Road - Fuwen Temple.

Chengtian Temple, also known as Yuetai Temple, was built in the late Baoda period of the Southern Tang Dynasty and the early Zhongxing period. It has been rebuilt many times in successive dynasties. It is known as one of the three major monasteries in Quanzhou together with Kaiyuan Temple and Chongfu Temple. It was once a glorious temple. To this day, Chengtian Temple is still a large-scale temple. Although the buildings were newly built later, the land has not been moved and the dust of history is still there.

It is known as the best temple in southern Fujian. It is relatively large in size and is located in a residential alley. It is very quiet and there are not many tourists. All the people coming and going are local residents.

It is quiet in a bustling city, but it is quite large. There are electric tourist buses like those in Quanzhou that can go directly there (stopping at every station, the ticket price is 2 yuan).

I have to recommend this. I thought it was very small at first. I thought it would be much worse than Kaiyuan Temple, but it exceeded my expectations. It was a bit unexpected.

It's super quiet. I like it here. The signboards are also very clear.

There are not many tourists in Chengtian Temple, so it is enough to spend an hour walking around.

Someone wrote a doggerel on the outer wall of the temple. It is simple and easy to understand, and when placed in the temple, it becomes more charming.

The Chengtian Temple here is not the one in Su Shi's Night Tour. Chengtian Temple Night Tour should have been written during his exile in Huangzhou. However, there is no night without the moon, and there is no place without bamboo and cypress.

Entering Chengtian Temple, you will feel a sense of calmness and tranquility. The Buddha statues are solemn and compassionate, as if listening to the believers. All living beings suffer, and peace of mind brings peace of mind.

Chengtian Temple is a big place, suitable for you to visit, a very leisurely place

By Allen |

I went in through the side door, deliberately avoiding the tourists, but it was quiet. It was noon, and the quietness of the side hall made many workers who were repairing the temple fall asleep in the hall. I was afraid that the shutter sound of the camera would wake up the sleeping people, so I quickly took two photos and walked to the main hall. Chengtian Temple is not as popular as Guandi Temple, but there are still many tourists. There are still many people worshipping in the main hall. Every temple's release pond is full of hidden dragons and crouching tigers. In the release pond of Chengtian Temple, there is a scary unknown big (catfish) fish? There is also a turtle bigger than the head.

By At |

I rode a shared bike to Chengtian Temple to experience its thousand-year-old standing posture. There are several longan trees in Chengtian Temple, and there are stone benches and chairs under the trees. You can take a rest when you are tired. When I was there, there were many fallen longans on the ground.

By Amen |

Although it is located on Nanjun Road, which is known as Quanzhou's "Chao Ren Street", it is a pure land in the true sense. At the end of the road, the four characters "Nanquan Buddhist Kingdom" are majestic but not ostentatious. Opposite it is the courtyard where the main hall is located. It is so quiet here that even the whiskers of the banyan tree can be noticed swaying in the wind. There are only two or three tourists, walking slowly. This Chengtian Temple is a different world, as deep as the Forbidden City. The central axis is 300 meters long, with one hall connected to another, and the Heavenly King Hall, Maitreya Hall, Great Hall, Dharma Hall and Manjusri Hall are distributed in order. There are exquisite murals on the east and west sides.

It is very quiet here, with many monks and a lot of incense. The Chengtian Temple in ancient poetry reminds me of the fear I felt when I was dominated by ancient Chinese literature when I was in school.

Next to the temple is a school. I went there for the temple library, but I didn't look for it deliberately. I didn't feel bad if I didn't find it. The temple is very big and very quiet, which is like two different worlds compared to the busy alley outside.

The temple was unexpectedly quiet, and I thought it might be because I entered from the side door. When I arrived at the main hall, I found that monks and lay believers were performing rituals. The temple covers a large area, with wide spaces between buildings, lush trees, and a deep and quiet atmosphere.

A quiet temple, perfect for an afternoon stroll. Children love watching turtles of all sizes crawling on the wood in the release pond to bask in the sun.

By Red Bean Paste |

Coming out of Goldfish Alley and heading towards Nanjun Alley, you can see an inconspicuous temple gate. Going in, you will find a vast Chengtian Temple.

Unlike the Kaiyuan Temple which is crowded with tourists, only a few locals come here to burn incense and worship Buddha. This place is more like a quiet garden in a bustling city, with the secular world on one side and the Buddhist kingdom on the other. It is said that there is a big turtle in the release pond of Chengtian Temple, and if you are lucky, you will see it pop up.

Speaking of Quanzhou Chengtian Temple, the owner of the garden did not feel that it was rebuilt when he visited it. The ancient charm is lingering, a single tree forms a forest, and the incense of the ancient temple is curling. It is not easy to have such a paradise in the bustling city. However, we really can't find Zhang Huaimin here.

I never thought that there was such a large temple hidden behind an inconspicuous temple gate on Nanjun Road. Chengtian Temple is not like other Zen temples that put on airs and put on aloof attitude. It is more like a quiet garden.

A sign with a special sense of age reads: "No noise, dress neatly, walk properly, and be pious." It separates you from the hustle and bustle of the world, without eye-catching decorations, but with birds singing and flowers blooming. You can spend more time here and be a rare idle person.

By gahra1412 |

Chengtian Temple is also a relatively large temple. I fell in love with it as soon as I entered the gate. The shade of the trees blocked the scorching sun. Places like the Main Hall are no different from the temples I usually visit (at least I, who am not a Buddhist, can't tell). But when I went out, I saw that there was a room that enshrined things like spirit tablets. Many local people, especially during the Dragon Boat Festival, come to the temple to worship their ancestors, rather than simply kneeling down to worship gods and Buddhas.

It's very quiet. I like this place very much. You can really sit there and be in a daze, listening to the people chanting in the hall. If you go there in winter, you should be able to bask in the warm sun.

Chengtian Temple is next to a primary school in Nanjun Lane. I passed by in the afternoon and it was very quiet. The music played in the temple made people feel more peaceful. It is free to visit. The main halls in the temple include Maitreya Hall, Mahavira Hall and Dabei Hall. There are many turtles and fish in the release pond, which are very cute. In addition, the temple is more special in the Guangqin Buddhist Library in Chengtian Temple. This is the first Buddhist library open to the public in the country. You can enter and read scriptures. It feels very special. But there was no one in the library that day, so I didn't go in.

Walking in the temple, it feels like you are in a temple in Chiang Mai, which is very nice. Highly recommended.

『2015-4-20 Chengtian Temple』

I went there after coming out of Yuanmiao Temple, and went in through the back door. The temple is quite big. Although it is in a busy city, it is very quiet inside. It is considered to be quiet in the hustle and bustle, and there are not many tourists. Most of them are locals who burn incense and worship Buddha. There are several ancient trees inside, which should be quite old, adding a lot of ancient and quiet feeling to the temple. The main hall is under maintenance, so the main entrance is closed, but in order to allow pilgrims to burn incense normally, the back door is open and you can go in, which is quite humane. The road from the main gate is very historical, and the towers on the left should be very old. Finally, I have to say that I visited several temples in Quanzhou, and there was no commercial atmosphere at all. No tickets are required, and incense is provided free of charge, which is commendable!

PS: No tickets are required, and visitors are not allowed to enter after 17:00

It may be another temple worth recommending besides Kaiyuan Temple. The architectural style is very southern Fujian. Master Hongyi once gave a lecture here. There are also many cultural relics here, including the southern Fujian coin casting workshop, the Kaimin Three Kings Temple, etc., which are worth seeing.

By Little Sissi |

All the halls in the temple provide free incense sticks, and the monks in the temple help to organize the incense burners and maintain order. There is no smell of money in some big temples. Although Chengtian Temple is not as famous as Kaiyuan Temple, it is definitely a hidden gem.

We went to Kaiyuan Temple first in the morning, and then went to Chengtian Temple in the afternoon. Compared with Kaiyuan Temple, this one has fewer people and the area is also quite large. I think it is no worse than Kaiyuan Temple. As it is also a Buddhist temple, this one is much quieter. In addition, there are a lot of turtles in the pond, big and small. The picture looks really harmonious. When I went there, I happened to catch up with a ritual and was fortunate to visit it for a while. Personally, I like Chengtian Temple more.

The only thing left on the west axis is the "Tan Yue Wang Gong Temple".

Chengtian Temple can be reached by foot from the Confucian Temple. You can also visit the Bronze Buddha Temple on the way. The Bronze Buddha Temple is very small and you can get out in a few minutes. Chengtian Temple was built in the late Baoda period of the Southern Tang Dynasty and the early Zhongxing period (957-958 AD). It was named Chengtian Temple in the fourth year of Jingde in the Northern Song Dynasty (1007). Its scale is second only to Kaiyuan Temple and it is one of the three largest jungles in southern Fujian. Entering the temple is the stele. The dragon gave birth to nine sons. The one who supported the stele was the sixth Baxia, also known as the dragon turtle, which is a symbol of longevity and auspiciousness. It always strives to raise its head forward, and its four legs are tenaciously supported. It strives to move forward and never stops.

The Chinese are really bad at naming things. There are a lot of names for Kaiyuan Temple and Chengtian Temple. Some people on the Internet say that Su Dongpo's famous article "Night Tour of Chengtian Temple" was written here. Considering that Mr. Dongpo was exiled to Huangzhou at that time, it was obviously written in Hubei.

Therefore, "the courtyard is like a pool of clear water, with algae and water chestnuts crisscrossing in the water, which are the shadows of pines and cypresses." Such a wonder can't be seen here. However, Quanzhou Chengtian Temple also has its own ten wonders: Banyan Path in the afternoon shade, flat pines in the breeze, no birds roosting in the tower, bright moon on the Yaotai Terrace, morning sun on the rolled-up curtains, evening rain on the push-up tent, plum shadows in the square pool, bamboo sounds in the whistling temple, evening clouds on Parrot Hill, and stones like parrots.

Quanzhou Chengtian Temple, also known as Yuetai Temple, was built by the Southern Tang Dynasty. It has been rebuilt many times throughout the dynasties and is known as one of the three major monasteries in Quanzhou along with Kaiyuan Temple and Chongfu Temple.

Compared with places like Kaiyuan Temple and Guanyue Temple, Chengtian Temple is much quieter. The hustle and bustle seem to be blocked outside by an invisible door. The banyan tree paths are shaded in the afternoon, and the pine trees are covered with cool breeze. Although it is in the middle of a bustling city, it is very peaceful.

There are several well-known ancient temples in Quanzhou City. They were first built in the Tang and Song Dynasties, with a thousand years of history and splendid culture. The location of the ancient temple is very hidden. You have to walk through a long and narrow path and turn left to see the open space. The temple is very big inside, but the temple gate is very small. The connotation is all inside. It is the naturalization place of Master Hongyi.

By This summer |

It is known as the best temple in southern Fujian. Located on Nanjun Road, I personally think it is the most beautiful green road in Quanzhou.

By shining❀ |

Chengtian Temple, located in Nanjun Lane, Quanzhou, was originally the southern garden of Liu Congxiao, a military governor of the Five Dynasties. The temple was built in the late Baoda period of the Southern Tang Dynasty and the early Zhongxing period (957-958), and was initially named "Nanchan Temple". In the fourth year of Jingde in the Northern Song Dynasty (1007), it was renamed Chengtian Temple. It is second only to Kaiyuan Temple in size and is one of the three largest monasteries in southern Fujian.

The quiet temple does not have as many tourists as Kaiyuan Temple, and is closer to the imagined place for spiritual practice.

Chengtian Temple is relatively quiet compared to other temples, which is why I like to go there. Saying goodbye to the hustle and bustle and listening to Buddhist scriptures quietly in the temple is also a great way to cultivate your mind and cultivate your character.

By Xingbaobao |

Entering Chengtian Temple is a wonderful experience. It is located on Nanjun Road, a bustling pedestrian street in Quanzhou. The front is not big at all. Compared with other temples with prosperous incense at the gate, the gate of this Zen temple is too quiet, and there is no one to be seen. I didn't want to go in, but the long main entrance leading to the screen attracted me. I walked in slowly. In an instant, it seemed that the hustle and bustle of the street behind me was blocked by an invisible gate, and I came to a paradise. When I walked into the main hall, I happened to catch up with the monks and lay people chanting. I stood and listened silently for a while, and then walked away. My mood became particularly good.

By Better me |

I like Chengtian Temple. Like Qingjing Mosque, it is a quiet place with a Buddhist library. The aunties and grandmas can just find a stone stool to sit down and read quietly.

By ReverseScale |

Chengtian Temple is a very quiet, beautiful and comfortable temple. When you approach it, your whole heart will be infected by its tranquility. I have always felt that temples should be quiet places. The hustle and bustle brought by too much incense will really erase the original attributes of the temple. Fortunately, the temples in Quanzhou all retain that simplicity, which is one of the reasons why I prefer Quanzhou.

By siriwei |

Quanzhou Chengtian Temple is a unique temple with a really large interior. I personally think that its level of preservation is comparable to that of Kaiyuan Temple. Kaiyuan Temple is inclusive, simple and traditional, while Chengtian Temple is more formal, grand and solemn.

By Snow Search |

There are few tourists, the temple is deep, and I happened to encounter a religious ceremony. I listened to the monks chanting for an hour, which was very comfortable... The monks inside were also very kind, and would smile and nod to greet tourists (actually not smiling, but smiling with a heartless look, which was considered brilliant), and they seemed to be living a happy life... If you want to be a monk, choose this place, it is not too out of the world, the living environment is good, and you can be happy every day, which is much more comfortable than the laymen in the secular world who are busy with life every day.

After leaving Kaiyuan Temple, we took a unique open-top motorcycle taxi in Quanzhou to Chengtian Temple. The owner of the inn told us that such motorcycle taxis usually cost 8 yuan, but when we arrived at Chengtian Temple, the seemingly honest motorcycle taxi driver insisted on charging 8 yuan per person, which made us feel cheated. But when we thought about the hard work and difficulty of the driver under the scorching sun, we felt relieved.

Chengtian Temple has many halls and is larger than Kaiyuan Temple. Every time you enter the temple, you will see different statues of Bodhisattvas. Incense is placed in all the temples in Quanzhou. You can take it yourself. You don't need to bring any incense. However, you need to pay the money to the merit box according to your own strength and dedication.

When passing by Chengtian Temple, I casually walked in as it was still early. Unexpectedly, this casualness turned out to be an unexpected highlight of my trip to Quanzhou.

Chengtian Temple. This famous temple has a history of more than 1,000 years. It was named Chengtian by the Emperor of the Northern Song Dynasty. Its status in southern Fujian is second only to Kaiyuan Temple and Nanputuo Temple. There are ten scenic spots in the temple, including "Unstained by Dust" and "Fragrant Plum and Stone".
