Yumen Pass

Also known as Xiaofangpan City, it prospered with the rise of the Silk Road and was once a must-go place for merchants from the Western Regions and people from the Central Plains to travel between them.
The beautiful Hetian jade has been imported into the Central Plains from here since ancient times, hence the name.
After thousands of years of erosion, Yumen Pass has long lost its original appearance. Now Yumen Pass looks like the remains of a rammed earth pile.

1. You need to buy a ticket after passing the toll station. The ticket is bound to the bus and must be purchased together.

2. It includes three scenic spots, Hecang City, Han Great Wall and Yumenguan City. The bus will take you to each of them in turn, with explanations on the bus. The distance between the three is not close.

3. All three scenic spots are ruins, and there is not much to see. The focus is to listen to the history and feel the former prosperity of the Silk Road behind the desolation.

4. Although the price here is quite high, you can learn some knowledge and it is worthwhile to pay some tuition to protect the ruins.

5. Transportation is inconvenient, so you can only drive yourself or charter a car.

Standing on the hot sand and stones, you can see the thousand-year-old historical sites preserved in the Northwest, observe the scenery with your eyes, listen to the wind with your ears, and savor the historical events with your heart.

Today, the pass is still as prosperous as it was in the past, but without the hustle and bustle of soldiers and horses. Rows of withered walls and abandoned square cities stand alone on the yellow sand. What attracts people more is their yearning for the world of poetry. Standing in such an empty and hot world, you can only taste it with your heart to avoid being bored.

Yumen Pass is located to the west of Dunhuang. Together with Yangguan Pass to the south, it guards the western gate of the Hexi Corridor and serves as an important base for going to the Western Regions. These passes have a common feature: they are all stationed at water sources. When Xuanzang left for the Western Regions, he also saw Yumen Pass from afar in the desert.

Standing in front of Yumen Pass, gazing at the vast land, the sun is setting in the desert and the long river. I think of the countless soldiers who fought on the battlefield, died on horseback, and slept forever in this Gobi Desert. The years of war and war have passed, leaving only traces of the past.

By Eighteen Children Tour |

Yumen Pass is located on the Gobi Desert 90 kilometers northwest of Dunhuang City, and consists of three parts: Yumen Pass Ruins, Hecang City Ruins and Han Great Wall Ruins.

Yumen Pass, commonly known as Xiaofangpancheng, is said to be named after the beautiful Hetian jade was imported into the Central Plains through this place. It was one of the two passes on the western border of the Han Dynasty. It is the only pass on the Silk Road from Dunhuang to the North Road and the Central Road to the Western Regions. It has been the gateway from the Central Plains to the Western Regions since ancient times. The Yellow River flows far into the white clouds, and there is a lonely city on the ten thousand feet mountain. Why should the Qiang flute blame the willows, the spring breeze does not pass Yumen Pass. Wang Zhihuan's "Liangzhou Ci" was learned in elementary school. The imagined Yumen Pass should be a city wall that stretches as far as the eye can see, a city that has experienced wind and frost, towering and majestic. However, there is still a certain distance between reality and imagination. The ruins of Yumen Pass look very desolate, with only a square city made of earth, standing alone on the Gobi Desert...

The Yellow River flows far away among the white clouds, and there is a lonely city on the mountain.

Why should the Qiang flute blame the willows, as the spring breeze does not reach the Yumen Pass?

Most people know about Yumen Pass from Wang Zhihuan’s "Liangzhou Ci", but today only the ruins are left!

Adult ticket for Yumen Pass: RMB 40, sightseeing bus RMB 50, bundled, self-driving and hiking are not allowed. However, the scenic area includes the Han Great Wall and Dafangpan (also known as Hecang City).

By Water Grass |

Yumenguan Scenic Area consists of three sub-attractions: Xiaofangpancheng, Dafangpancheng and Han Great Wall Ruins. If you want to see the latter two sub-attractions, you need to buy bus tickets. Xiaofangpancheng is well-known (although whether it is the real Yumenguan is still controversial), but it occupies a very small area. From the viewing platform next to the city site, you can see the Shule River Valley from afar. Dafangpancheng is much more majestic. It is said to be a granary and military warehouse in the Han Dynasty. It is difficult to see well-preserved ruins of the Han Great Wall in China. I remember when I went from Liuyuan to Dunhuang for the first time when I was a child, I was fortunate to see a section of the Han Great Wall on the Gobi Desert. The desolate ancient wall at sunset left an indelible impression in my heart. From then on, I have a special liking for the unrepaired Great Wall in the wild. The only unpleasant thing is that the scenic area shuttle bus only gives less than 15 minutes. In order not to let the people on the same bus wait, I can only take a few videos in a hurry and get on the bus.

By Bug Piggy |

The Xiaofangpan City is reachable on foot. Standing on it, you can see a lonely oasis. Then drive five kilometers to the east to reach the Dafangpan City. The Han Great Wall ruins, which are another ten kilometers in the other direction, are probably the most interesting. From a distance, it looks like an upside-down chocolate mille-feuille. When you look closer, you will find that the thousand layers are full of everything, including small stones, straw ropes, linen... It is said that this is the best-preserved Han Great Wall in China.

By Small D-Culture |

In addition to Crescent Lake and Mogao Grottoes, Dunhuang also has the Yangguan Pass and Yumenguan Pass ruins on the west line, the Han Great Wall ruins and Yadan Devil City. You can charter a car to go back and forth in one day.

Wang Zhihuan's poem "Why should the Qiang flute blame the willows, the spring breeze does not pass through Yumen Pass" refers to the Yumen Pass we are going to on this trip. Yumen Pass is quite famous. It was a very important fortress on the Silk Road in ancient times, but with the passage of time, Yumen Pass has been lost in the long river of history and has become a rammed earth ruin.

If you plan to go to Yadan Geopark, you must buy the ticket for Yumen Pass. It feels a bit like a forced sale. After the bus stops at the ticket window, everyone gets off the bus to buy tickets and then takes the bus. The sightseeing ticket is a must, and it is more expensive than the ticket price... Yumen Pass includes three small attractions, namely Hecang City, Han Great Wall and Yumen Pass City. These three small attractions are ruins, and the style feels similar to the Yumen Pass I just visited. It was noon when I went there, and the sun was very strong, and it was hot on my body.

By Evan's Diary |

"I urge you to drink another cup of wine, there will be no friends west of Yangguan Pass", "Why should the Qiang flute blame the willows, the spring breeze does not pass Yumen Pass", I believe everyone has heard these two poems. Yangguan Pass and Yumen Pass are adjacent to each other on the west line of Dunhuang. They are border passes of the Western Regions established since the Western Han Dynasty. Therefore, they are similar in history, culture and scenery. You don't have to worry about whether it is worth going or which one to go. If you drive by yourself or sign up for a one-day tour to Yadan Geopark, these two attractions are must-sees; if you don't plan to go to Yadan Geopark, but go to see these two passes specifically, then there is no need.

By Soledad |

The ticket is 40 yuan, and the sightseeing bus is 50 yuan. It is also a very pitfall attraction. If it is not because it is so famous and so prestigious in Chinese history, I would not go to see it. Then the ruins of Yumenguan are just a small square plate? It is a small square mound, and there is a large square plate from the granary. This is a large team with a sense of vicissitudes and history, which reminds me of the Parthenon in Greece. Oh, there is also the Great Wall of Han Dynasty, the same is true for the mounds in rows 111. There is nothing to see. The driver gave us 10 minutes to take pictures, and then we left. Agriculture, I suggest you not to rent the interpreter inside. The first one seems to be easy to fail, and the second one has nothing to explain. You can go back to Baidu Encyclopedia and rent it for 25 yuan each. It is a very pitfall thing, but don't rent it. When you take the sightseeing bus again, there will be explanations on the sightseeing bus. Everyone can listen carefully. There will also be speakers for explanations next to each point in the scenic area. You can also listen carefully there. But after visiting this scenic spot, next time I read the poem, "The spring breeze does not reach Yumen Pass", I will have an image in my mind. This is the only benefit of visiting this scenic spot. So after visiting this scenic spot, you have to study some of the history of this scenic spot, such as reading related books or watching related documentaries, which can help us remember better.

By vigi |

Yumen Pass is really a "depressing pass" for me. The sightseeing bus ticket is more expensive than the entrance ticket... It feels like a rip-off, and you have to buy it. First, for the safety of tourists, there is no signal inside, and some roads are difficult to drive. Even if you are traveling by car, you can't drive in by yourself. Second, each two attractions are far apart, so you have to take a bus! ! But because I participated in a one-day tour, the itinerary was relatively rushed, so I didn't see the key Xiaofangpan attraction, so it was really depressing! ! If you have enough time, there is a small shop at the intersection of the Xiaofangpan Ruins. You can rent ancient costumes to take pictures at the scenic spots, so that you can experience the ancient costume addiction. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough time so I didn't experience it! ! There is no tour guide here, so no one explains the history and culture here! ! Anyway, I went there once and it's fine. It's not worth seeing.

Once upon a time, Wang Zhihuan’s poem “The spring breeze does not reach Yumen Pass” fully described the desolation of the desert outside Yumen Pass, describing a barren land with no grass and few people.

When driving through Yumen Pass, the scenery composed of the Gobi Desert and modern facilities made us start to feel a little uneasy.

We know that Xinjiang is just ahead and is getting closer and closer to us.

Yumen Pass is far from the city of Dunhuang and must be reached by car or charter. It usually sells combined tickets with Hecang City and the Han Great Wall. Yumen Pass was once a very prosperous trade route, but unfortunately it has long been lost over the years, with only a section of adobe remaining.

Yumen Pass Site

"Why should the Qiang flute blame the willows? The spring breeze does not reach Yumen Pass." I only knew about Yumen Pass after reading this poem when I was a student. You can imagine how prosperous it was at that time. It was an important military pass and a major transportation route on the Silk Road during the Han Dynasty. Sometimes imagination is limited, so you have to do your homework, look back at the prosperous times of thousands of years, and read the poems of our ancestors. Review the books you didn't read well.

The majestic desert. A bleak scene. Loess ruins are everywhere. The artistic conception mainly depends on imagination.

By Roliff Herman |

The integrity of Yumen Pass is better than that of Yangguan Pass. At least you can walk in and see it, and you can touch it if you want. They are all scenic spots on the same line, so you should check in to avoid regrets.

By Fuzzy |

Only a few mounds can be seen in the desert, but it is still worth a visit.

By Sideline Film Critic |

In fact, the development level of Yumenguan Scenic Area is average. There is no difference between the inside and outside of Yumenguan Ruins and Yadan landforms! Some people say that Yumenguan Ruins is the worst scenic spot. There is nothing but weathered earth mounds, and it is not good to take pictures. I can only say that it is because you don’t know how to take pictures!

By inspiration |

When you go to Yumenguan Ruins Park in 2016, it always has the nature of a toll - whether you want to visit the Yumenguan Scenic Area or not, it will charge you an entrance fee because it is the only way to the Yadan Geopark.

But this time when I went to Yumenguan Scenic Area in 2018, things had changed. Yumenguan Scenic Area already has a scenic gate, and it is equipped with a special shuttle bus, which is equipped with their professional guides and will give some simple introductions.

The grandparents of the Japanese tour group we met listened to the guide's explanation very carefully and sighed from time to time, but our own children were playing and seemed not to understand the significance of this earthen city. Age makes people respect history, and only with awe of history can we better examine the present. I hope time can teach children this.

The Yellow River flows far away among the white clouds, and there is a lonely city and a thousand-foot mountain. Why should the Qiang flute blame the willows, as the spring breeze does not reach Yumen Pass? Guitar By Wang Zhihuan.

The bright moon rises from the Tianshan Mountains, amidst the vast sea of clouds. The wind blows thousands of miles across Yumen Pass. Bass by Li Bai.

The long clouds of Qinghai darken the snow-capped mountains, and the lonely city looks out at Yumen Pass. I have fought hundreds of battles in the yellow sand and worn my golden armor. I will never return until I have conquered Loulan. Keyboard By Wang Changling.

These are my three favorite ancient poems with the word Yumen Pass. If these three people formed the Yumen Pass Band, I believe it would awaken the bloodiness of some boys even if they wear eye shadow now.

There is no need to express any emotion. Standing in front of the city pass, I feel like I am the lead singer on the stage. Be it Dafangpan City or Xiaofangpan City, it doesn’t matter if Yumen Pass is destroyed or Yumen Pass still exists. The Yumen Pass I want is always in my heart, in my ears, and in the moment when I shout, “We will, we will rock you.”

By Nanshan |

The spring breeze does not reach Yumen Pass. Time flies, and only a wall remains.

By The stupid Ah Dai Dai |

Yumenguan is the second most pitfall attraction in this trip besides Chaka Salt Lake. The ticket is 40 yuan/person, which is a combined ticket for Yumenguan, Cangcheng, and Ming Great Wall. The combined ticket price does not seem expensive, but the most pitfall is the shuttle bus in the scenic area, which costs 50 yuan/person! ! ! Yumenguan is actually just a mound, you can even see it from a long distance outside the scenic area, but the distance between the other two attractions is basically about 20 kilometers one way, and it is only 40 kilometers round trip, but it costs 50 yuan per person. Last year, if you drove yourself or chartered a local car, in simple terms, you could drive into the scenic area by yourself if you had a car, and there was no fare at all except the ticket price. But this year, it is almost mandatory to charge fares, because you bought a combined ticket but did not spend money on the fare, and except for Yumenguan, the other two attractions are basically abandoned. You can't walk this 40-kilometer round trip! Because almost all the attractions in the subsequent itinerary have shuttle buses or buses, and some buses even open the winding mountain road and the fare is only 20... So the charging standard of Yumenguan scenic spot is absolutely not standardized... There are many human factors in it, so you can imagine it yourself. In the end, this attraction should be carefully considered... You can think about it yourself...

In the past, you had to buy a ticket to Yadan regardless of whether you wanted to visit Yumen Pass. But in August 2018, it was changed to no longer mandatory. At the Yumen Pass ticket office, people and vehicles are separated for ticket purchase and ticket inspection (later, the Yumen Pass Visitor Center will conduct a second ticket inspection).

If you don't want to visit Yumen Pass, you can go through the green channel directly after registering at the window without buying a ticket. However, if you want to visit again after leaving this gate, the Yumen Pass Visitor Center does not sell tickets for Yumen Pass, which means you have to drive back to the ticket office to buy a new ticket. So you must think about whether you want to visit in advance.

In the past, tourists bought tickets at Yumen Pass and drove to the Han Great Wall and Hecang City. Since mid-July this year, the road to the Han Great Wall has been blocked. To visit the Han Great Wall and Hecang City, you must buy a shuttle bus ticket at the visitor center on the east side of the Yumen Pass Scenic Area parking lot and take the shuttle bus to continue your visit.

Shuttle ticket: 50 yuan per person (I personally think it’s a bit of a rip-off, it’s just a disguised charge)

In fact, Yumen Pass is just a small square city with nothing inside. If you are not interested, you can choose not to visit it. But I think that since I am here, I must visit it.

By Mouse.D |

I thought it would be big, but it was so small... Now Yumen Pass is just a shell, and the inside is empty. Yumen Pass Scenic Area consists of 3 parts, located in the left, middle and right of the scenic area, so you need to take a tour bus to get there. There will be a guide on the tour bus to give some explanations, which is useful to listen to. Otherwise, you will see some dirt.

By A man |

It is better not to go to Yumen Pass. But if you have a car to stay overnight, I recommend watching the stars at Yumen Pass. There are endless stars in front, behind, left and right. The Milky Way hangs in the sky, and I can't help but be moved to tears.

By Ramon |

People go there because of the name, but it's actually just a pile of broken earth. It's called a ruins, but you can't see anything.

By Zen |

We looked at the Yumen Pass ruins from a distance. It was just a small pile. The ticket price seemed to be 40 yuan. There was a viewing platform built to view the pile. Our group did not go in, so everyone decided for themselves.

By Dimethicone Pentoxide |

There are three spots in Yumenguan Scenic Area, Dafangpancheng (Hecangcheng Ruins), Xiaofangpancheng (Yumenguan) and Han Great Wall. Dafangpancheng and Han Great Wall are far away from the scenic area. If you don't buy a small transportation ticket, you can't go to these two attractions. It's better to buy a ticket, it's worth a visit.

By Spring-girl |

I just passed by and didn't go into the scenic area. I felt it was unnecessary.

You must pass this station to go to Yadan Ghost City, which is a bundled sales route. It was the gateway to various places in the Western Regions during the Han Dynasty. The former site is now in Xiaofangpan City, northwest of Dunhuang, Gansu. Therefore, Yumen Pass is also called Xiaofangpan City. It is the throat pass of the Silk Road leading to the northern route of the Western Regions. The pass is square. At that time, Yumen Pass was prosperous with the sound of camel bells, shouts of people and neighs of horses, caravans and messengers coming and going. Although it is a bit desolate now, with a pile of wasteland, it is inevitable to be fascinated by the thick walls, with mixed feelings and nostalgia. Every driver or tour guide who runs the western route will quote the two sentences "Spring breeze does not cross Yumen Pass" and "No old friends in the west of Yangguan", which evokes everyone's nostalgia. I didn't go to Yangguan this time, so I had to pour all my feelings of a passerby in Yumen. Against this affectionate background of gradient blue, if you are fully loaded with silk, porcelain or tea, ready to make a fortune in the West, how can you worry about whether the spring breeze can cross? In the vast river of history, Chengtan left only legends.

By An Yu |

Many popular frontier poems were closely related to Yumen Pass. Even though there is only a mound left now, I am still willing to take a look, just to fulfill my wish. The autumn wind will never stop blowing, but the love for Yumen Pass will always remain...

By Gratitude |

This lonely site has stood in the Gobi Desert for a thousand years. It is like a brave general, defending the territory of the Han Dynasty. The broken body seems to be telling people its determination and tragic grandeur to defend the country, as well as the loneliness of sticking to the border. When you reach out your hand, you only get a handful of cold fog.

By Not ancient |

Yumen Pass, like Yangguan Pass, was an ancient pass. Wang Zhihuan's poem "Why should the Qiang flute blame the willows, the spring breeze does not reach Yumen Pass" has also made the desolation of this place pass through word of mouth to this day. Today, Yumen Pass is just a "mound of earth". Compared with the buildings and scenic spots built later in Yangguan Pass, Yumen Pass actually looks more lonely.

By Luuuuucky |

You will pass by it when you go to the Yadan Scenic Area. All that is left is a square mound of earth, so there is no need to go there specifically.

By Alfalfa |

Those who like history can visit here to learn about the current situation and former glory of Yumen Pass. As an important pass on the Silk Road, it was indeed at its peak. This scenic spot is also very empty, a square mound in the Gobi Desert.

Yumen Pass is on the way from Dachai to Dunhuang. You can't say you just pass by it, but you can get there by taking a little detour. It's a cool place, and the well-known saying "Spring breeze doesn't reach Yumen Pass" is here.

By Raindrops Fall |

The frontier poems of the heyday of the Tang Dynasty were full of vigor and awe, so even if only a pile of rammed earth and a section of ruins remain of the passes described in the poems, they are still unforgettable. The Yumen Pass, where willows do not grow and spring breezes cannot pass, is here.

By HIPPO sees the world |

The road conditions in the Hexi Corridor were worse than we had imagined. We happened to encounter the construction of the only road from Dunhuang to Yadan Devil City. We searched for a passable road like driving around in a maze, and drove for more than five hours in the washboard-like mud. In the end, we had to give up because of time constraints. It was a pity. The ruins of the Han Great Wall at Yumen Pass deep in the desert became the farthest end of our westward journey. The early summer sun dried out pine oil from the pine wood on the Yumen Pass walking trail. The children were not afraid of the heat and were still full of curiosity.

This is the site of Yumen Pass from the Han Dynasty. It is thousands of years old and has long been unused, so all that is left is a lonely city tower, which together with the sand and loess on the ground has turned into a painting in the desert.

Time has left us with a small square fortress, standing on the long and narrow Gobi Desert from east to west. If you go around the west side of Xiaofangpan City and head south, you can reach Yangguan Pass. Yes, there is no Yangguan Pass after you leave. It turns out that the poet tells us through thousands of years that the truth of life is loneliness.

To get to Yadan Geopark, you must pass Yumen Pass. Some online travel notes have said that you must buy a 40-yuan ticket to Yumen Pass, but in fact you don’t have to buy one. Not buying a ticket only means you can’t go to Yumen Pass, but it won’t affect your trip to Yadan Geopark. However, real-name registration is required for parking at Yumen Pass.

This is the "Yumen Pass" in "Liangzhou Ci" where the spring breeze does not pass. It is a must-pass place on the ancient Silk Road. Because the beautiful Hetian jade was imported from here to the Central Plains, it was called Yumen Pass. However, it has been repeatedly revived and abandoned with the rise and fall of the Silk Road. The discovery here has to bring up the British-Hungarian Stein again. Stein excavated many Han bamboo slips in the ruins not far north of the pass, and determined from the contents of the bamboo slips that Xiaofangpancheng was the location of Yumen Pass. Personally, I feel that it is okay to go to Yangguan or not, but Yumen Pass is still worth visiting.

Yumenguan Scenic Area. Tickets are 20 yuan at the ticket office. After buying the ticket, the car continued to drive a few kilometers forward. Arrived at the Xiaofangpancheng scenic spot. After parking the car, you have to pass through the tourist center and walk a distance to reach Xiaofangpancheng.

Xiaofangpan City is the former Yumen Pass. Now all that is left is a square hollow wall with nothing inside.

We walked from Xiaofangpancheng to the parking lot. We discussed whether to go to Hecangcheng (Dafangpancheng), which was a warehouse for storing grain. We went to Hecangcheng or the Great Wall of Han. These are two different directions. To go to Hecangcheng, we need to take the staff of the scenic spot to open the gate. The road is usually closed because there are few people there. Some tourists go there to open it again.

To get to the Han Great Wall, continue driving along the northwest road. Most tourists and tour groups go to the Han Great Wall.

We finally decided to go to the Han Great Wall. We drove another five kilometers and arrived at the Han Great Wall. The Han Great Wall is different from the Great Walls I have seen before. It is a wall erected on the Gobi Desert. The materials used for the wall are also locally sourced, with a layer of rammed earth and a layer of rattan. The layers are very solid, and there is a beacon tower in the distance. My aunt ran there alone to take a few photos, and came back to tell us that there are a few piles of rattan used for lighting beacon smoke in ancient times, which have been calcified and look like fossils from the outside. It is rare that it has been preserved so well in the wild for thousands of years. It is not easy.

My impression of Yumen Pass: "The scenic area is very large, and the scenic spots are scattered in the vast Gobi Desert. It is not as well-regulated as Yangguan Scenic Area.

Yumen Pass is the only way to get to Yadan, so everyone has to buy a ticket for Yumen Pass, which is a bit of a rip-off for those who just want to see Yadan.

Yumen Pass is a relatively boring place.

It basically depends on your imagination.

The thousand-year-old ruins that were famous in ancient poems are now just dried-up earthen mounds. The once prosperous checkpoints are like the changing times and the vicissitudes of life. We can only feel the vastness and desolation in ancient poems.

Today, only the ruins of Xiaofangpancheng and a small earthen mound remain at Yumen Pass.

Unlike the yellow sands of Yangguan Pass, the grass and water in front of Yumen Pass are lush and abundant. One can imagine how busy and bustling Yumen Pass would have been during the Han Dynasty thousands of years ago, as an important military station.

It takes about an hour and a half to get from Yangguan to Yumenguan. Now, only a small Fangpancheng ruins remain at Yumenguan, standing alone in the Gobi Desert.

There is really nothing to see at Yumen Pass. But since I was here, I went in to experience it. The scenic area is also very small, and it takes about five to ten minutes to walk the entire way.

We originally wanted to go to the Devil City west of Yumen Pass, but it was too late. The ticket seller told us that there were no gas stations along the way and we didn’t have much gas left, so we just went home.

After Yangguan, we set out for Devil City and passed Yumenguan. I bought a ticket and decided to take a look. There are really few relics left in Yumenguan, and they are seriously weathered. I don't have a high level of attainment and can't have a higher understanding. I hope everyone can pay more attention to the protection of the ecological environment.

For friends who are interested in history and culture, the 45-yuan ticket to Yumen Pass is worth it. You can go to Yumen Pass to see the remaining ruins of the Great Wall of Han Dynasty, appreciate the desolation and loneliness expressed in Wang Zhihuan’s poem “The spring breeze does not reach Yumen Pass”, and enjoy the endless Gobi scenery.

Tips

1. Tickets: Adult price: 40 yuan/person, full-time undergraduate students and below (with valid student ID) enjoy half price discount;

2. Admission time: 6:00-18:30

Tips: If you want to go to Yadan National Geopark, you must buy a ticket to Yumen Pass;

The toll collected at Yumen Pass is purely compulsory. Anyway, you have to pay the money and go in to take a look.

There are only four walls in the Yumen Pass ruins, and the rest are destroyed, which is a pity. It takes more than 20 minutes to visit back and forth.

When driving past Yumen Pass, there is a checkpoint on the main road. Regardless of whether you go in to visit or not, you are charged a 40 yuan entrance fee. Why doesn't the tourism bureau do anything about this forced consumption?

After thousands of years of erosion and burial by quicksand, the former Yumen Pass has long disappeared. There is no Qin brick or Han tile around it. Only a collapsed Han Dynasty beacon tower stands in the wilderness. Who would have thought that this is the famous Yumen Pass site? Standing next to the beacon tower ruins, there is another wetland to the east, with many waterfowl in the reeds on the water. Looking west, all you can see is yellow sand, without a single tree or green leaf.

The ticket office of Yumen Pass is on the road. If you want to go to Yadan, you must pass by and buy a ticket. In a sense, it is a compulsory fee. The package tickets of Yumen Pass (big and small square plates) and Han Great Wall are actually sold on the road. There is no other way. They are scattered in the Gobi Desert and difficult to manage. The full price of the ticket is 40 yuan, and the student ticket is 20 yuan, which is quite cheap.

In fact, Yumen Pass is divided into two scenic areas, the Big and Small Fangpan. The Yumen Pass we visited is called the Small Fangpan City. The once busy checkpoint for going abroad is now just a big stone, which makes people feel the changes of time. Opposite the ruins should be a wetland, and there is also a viewing platform, the scenery is still good.

Before the trip, I read a lot of guides and travel notes. I didn't have any expectations for the Hancheng City Ruins and Yumen Pass at first, and even considered whether to go, because fellow travelers commented that they were very disappointed after seeing the real thing, and it would be better not to see it, just a few small mounds of earth. Maybe because of the low expectations, when I was really there, I was still quite amazed.

In fact, the exact location of Yumen Pass is no longer known, but the ruins of Xiaofangpan City at that time are regarded as the ruins of Yumen Pass.

After getting off the bus, we first went to the Yumenguan Ruins Tourist Rest Area. There were only a few guests. I felt that there would definitely be a lot more tourists during the peak season. After all, such a large rest area can only accommodate less than ten people...

Yumen Pass, also known as Xiaofangpancheng, was one of the main roads from the Central Plains to the Western Regions in ancient times, and was also a key pass on the Silk Road. It is hard to imagine that this tall loess square building has stood tall after thousands of years of wind and rain, and its former momentum can still be seen. The sand is blowing the Great Wall and it is about to collapse. The autumn wind is blowing at Yumen Pass. Facing the wind, you can almost hear the camel bells and the shouts of people and horses.

Yumen Pass is now just a small mound, everything depends on imagination

It's really sunny in the afternoons in the northwest, so everyone must take good sun protection measures and wear hats and sun-protective clothing. The sun is really strong and there are few trees nearby to provide shade.

Yumen Pass is just a lonely little city gate, and the Shule River outside can only show the traces of the spring breeze. The temperature is 40 degrees, and even stepping on the ground feels hot... No wonder the spring breeze doesn't reach Yumen Pass~

By Daniel |

It is also well-known for the saying "Spring breeze does not reach Yumen Pass". It is known as the "Two Passes" together with Yangguan, and are the two heroes on the Silk Road.

By Morning Frost |

The ticket for Yumen Pass is 20 yuan per person (off-season). Yumen Pass is a checkpoint, equivalent to a toll station. Even if you don’t want to visit the Yumen Pass ruins, you have to buy this ticket because Yumen Pass is the only way to Yadan Devil City. If you want to pass through here, you have to pay the toll.

By Goose pen |

It's just a toll ticket, 40 yuan per person. Camel thorns are everywhere, I like this desolate feeling.

The spring breeze does not pass Yumen Pass, an important gateway on the Silk Road. It was once a glorious place for people to enter and exit the border. Countless literati and poets wrote poems here, and their famous verses have been passed down through the ages.
