The most famous scenic spot in the hometown of martial arts is terribly deserted. However, the desertedness of the scenic spot is not a bad thing for tourists.

The Ancestral Temple is not very big. If you don't appreciate it carefully, you can visit the whole courtyard in about 15 minutes. However, this is the starting point of my mother and I's journey, so we still stopped at every corner. It is also because of this that we did not miss the various exquisite details and felt the unique Lingnan architectural style.

Walking out of the Huang Feihong Pavilion, we just happened to catch a martial arts performance. At first, we thought that there were not many people and they were just going through the motions, but unexpectedly, several young men were still working hard to show the profound martial arts culture. My mother was so moved that she wanted to rush up to give a tip to the young boy. It was the first time I saw an authentic lion dance performance. I was shocked and worried about the performances on the stage. It was really not easy, especially the boy who played the second half of the lion. He had to bend his body throughout the whole process. I felt tired just thinking about it.

The Ancestral Temple should be open to the elderly for free, and naturally became the back garden of the elderly in Foshan. The courtyard was full of grandpas and grandmas playing cards and chess, and their number was even slightly greater than that of tourists. There were three circles inside and three circles outside a stone table, and from time to time there were a few shouts, which was quite warm.

When you check in Foshan, you must go to the Ancestral Temple. There is not much to say about the scenery. The service at the Ancestral Temple is a bit mechanical. I saw netizens saying that you can get a package ticket for the Ancestral Temple and Nanfeng, which can save some ticket money. As a result, I didn't buy a package ticket for the Ancestral Temple. I went to the Nanfeng Ancient Stove later and there was a package ticket for sale. Going to Nanfeng first can save ten yuan. I played around in the Ancestral Temple and just left the park and found that I was not allowed to enter the Feihong Pavilion again. In fact, I just stepped out of the door for 2~3 steps. The guard insisted that we didn't ask, there is surveillance, and the surveillance is not more telling. Although it is a small matter, it makes people uncomfortable.

As a museum, the Ancestral Temple feels more like an ancient architecture park with Lingnan characteristics. It not only displays Taoist culture and martial arts culture, but also Foshan folk art and customs. Lion dance, folk culture, Cantonese opera and other performances are held from time to time. The Huang Feihong Memorial Hall and Ip Man Hall should be very attractive to martial arts fans. The display of Taoist culture and folk culture history is also very interesting. As a landmark of Foshan, many tour groups come here to check in.

Foshan Ancestral Temple, bustling roofs and various characters. Foshan Ancestral Temple is one of the few truly well-preserved ancient architectural complexes in China. It has not been damaged too much, and all wood carvings, brick carvings, and stone carvings are well preserved. Even the furnishings and statues in the temple are all intact, fully reflecting the cultural relics and style of the Ancestral Temple during the Qing Dynasty.

The Lingying Temple only has three bays. The Chongzheng Society School and Zhongyi Liufang Temple, which were built on the left and right, also have three bays. Therefore, the main gates of the three buildings were built together, and the three gates of the ancestral temple became a magnificent building with eight pillars and nine bays. On the arch in the middle is a plaque inscribed with "Edicted Lingying Temple" by Emperor Zhu Qiyu of the Ming Dynasty; and on the red sandstone wall on the left is a wooden couplet: "Nine-Seven Shops worship this as their ancestor, and I am the only one who has been respected for billions of years", which is an incisive portrayal of the status of the ancestral temple in Foshan.

Foshan Ancestral Temple is both a Taoist sanctuary and an art palace

The Ancestral Temple was built during the Yuanfeng period of the Northern Song Dynasty. The Beidi God enshrined in the Ancestral Temple is said to be the water god of the north. All the lobsters and crabs that stir up trouble are under his control. Because there were many floods in the Pearl River Delta during the Tang and Song Dynasties, the people of Chancheng invited Beidi to Chancheng to take charge. Strangely enough, there has been no flood in Chancheng since then. Guangdong people have the concept of water as wealth, so the worship of Beidi has become a typical folk custom in the Pearl River Delta, which contains good wishes for good weather, peace and prosperity. At the same time, the Ancestral Temple is also today's Foshan Ancestral Temple Museum, a folk museum that integrates the ancient architectural art of the Ming and Qing Dynasties and the traditional culture of Foshan. The jurisdiction includes the ancient buildings of the Ancestral Temple, the Confucius Temple, the Huang Feihong Memorial Hall, the Ip Man Hall, etc. The most commendable thing is that the architectural decoration of the Ancestral Temple uses a large number of pottery sculptures, wood carvings, brick carvings, and gray sculptures. There are sculptures on both sides with opera stories as the main theme, and the pottery tile ridges are really worth the price.

Foshan Ancestral Temple is one of the three great treasures of ancient Lingnan architecture. Later, the Ip Man and Wong Fei Hung Memorial Halls were built next to it. The most noteworthy thing is the ceramic tile ridge on the roof of the Ancestral Temple. There are sculptures based on opera stories on both sides. Each character is so vivid! Unfortunately, it is too far away. If you zoom in, the charm and full view of the scene cannot be clearly captured by a small mobile phone.

The interior is well maintained. I walked around for two hours without missing a single thing. Of course, the lion dance and martial arts performances were what I was most looking forward to. However, the two performances lasted less than 29 minutes in total, and there was a red envelope asking session before and after the lion dance. Anyway, you must come here when you come to Foshan to see Foshan's cultural relics and listen to Foshan's history.

The Ancestral Temple was originally a temple dedicated to the Northern Emperor Xuantian, but now the lion dance performance here is also a major attraction for tourists. There is a performance at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. every day. The lion dancers are very young. In fact, our tour guide also introduced to us that the lion dance performance depends on the mood of the master and the weather. In fact, we can understand that this lion dance will be associated with a commercial flavor; first a few short performances of Foshan martial arts, and then the lion dance performance begins. The final Cai Qing is more interesting, and many people still want to get the first prize!

Foshan Ancestral Temple

Foshan Ancestral Temple is a national key cultural relic protection unit and a 4A-level scenic spot. Located in Chancheng District, Foshan, the temple was built during the Yuanfeng period of the Northern Song Dynasty and gradually became a complete temple complex in the Qing Dynasty. Foshan Ancestral Temple, Zhaoqing Yuecheng Dragon Mother Temple and Guangzhou Chen Clan Ancestral Hall are collectively known as the three treasures of Lingnan ancient architecture.

The Foshan Ancestral Temple is known as the first of all temples in the Pearl River Delta and was first built during the Yuanfeng period of the Northern Song Dynasty.

The Wong Fei-hung Memorial Hall and Ip Man Hall are both not far from the entrance. Both are memorial halls for martial arts masters and are the pride of Foshan. These two memorial halls have attracted Wong Fei-hung and Wing Chun disciples from all over the world to trace their roots and pay homage to their ancestors.

Eating Nanhai Xiqiao Mountain pancakes and watching the lion dance performance are important programs in the Ancestral Temple.

There is a bronze statue of a newly married couple at the entrance of the ancestral temple, which is quite interesting.

What is most noteworthy is that the architectural decoration of the ancestral temple makes extensive use of pottery, wood carvings, brick carvings, and plaster sculptures.

The brick carving craftsmanship of the Ancestral Temple is amazing. There is no trace of any mark at the joints between the bricks, as if it were made by nature.

The name of Foshan Ancestral Temple during the Northern Song Dynasty was Zutang, which was actually Beidi Temple. At that time, the Pearl River Delta region was mostly water towns and suffered from frequent floods. Beidi was the legendary god of flood control, so Beidi was worshipped as the patron saint of Foshan people.

Strangely enough, since the people of Foshan invited Beidi to take charge, there has been no flood in Foshan. In addition, Guangdong has the concept of taking water as wealth, so the worship of Beidi has become a typical folk custom in the Pearl River Delta.

The lion dance performance in the Ancestral Temple is very culturally distinctive and worth seeing. The Ip Man Hall is also a historical witness to Chinese Kung Fu.

Paying tribute to martial arts masters Huang Feihong and Ip Man. The lion dance performances at the Ancestral Temple are held in the morning and afternoon, which are absolutely not to be missed; the architecture of the Ancestral Temple and the Lingnan World behind it are both very Lingnan-style, forming a high-quality tourism and holiday area that combines history and modernity.

It collects and displays the main cultural characteristics of Foshan. You can watch lion dance performances, martial arts performances, and Cantonese opera performances. It only charges a symbolic ticket price, which is very cost-effective

The Foshan Ancestral Temple is located in Chancheng District, Foshan City, Guangdong Province. The temple was first built during the Yuanfeng period of the Northern Song Dynasty (1078-1085). By the early Qing Dynasty, it had gradually become a temple building with a complete system, rigorous structure and strong local characteristics. In the 25th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu (1899), the temple was renovated to form the current Ancestral Temple complex.

Overview

Foshan Ancestral Temple, Zhaoqing Yuecheng Dragon Mother Temple and Guangzhou Chen Clan Ancestral Hall are collectively known as the three great treasures of Lingnan ancient architecture and are now national key cultural relics protection units. The main hall of the Ancestral Temple also displays many precious artworks, such as 70 pieces of 33 kinds of weapons, copper wall iron wall ceremonial guards, a giant bronze mirror with a diameter of 1.31 meters, a large bronze tripod, a bronze bell and an incense burner. Ironware includes a large iron tripod, an iron tripod, iron paintings, etc. The park also displays stone plaques, stone beasts from the Ming and Qing dynasties, a stele inscribed with the word "Foshan" in positive text in the "Zhenguan 2nd Year" of the Tang Dynasty, and a replica next to the stone piece. Reassembled and restored pottery tile ridges, a large number of gold and wood carvings, large iron-cast warrior statues, iron-cast auspicious beasts, iron cannons, etc. These exhibits reflect the superb craftsmanship of Foshan during the Ming and Qing dynasties. No wonder some foreign friends who come to visit the Ancestral Temple call it the "Palace of Oriental Folk Art".

It was my first time to watch a lion dance performance live. It was pretty good, but there were too many people, so I didn’t enjoy it very much.

By Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside |

The Ancestral Temple is great, I like it very much. My husband has watched all the dramas of Huang Feihong and has been telling me his stories, especially the lion dance. As a person from Northeast China, it was my first time to watch the lion dance. It was so beautiful. Those children were in their teens and they were very good at it. The lion not only had eyes, head, mouth, limbs, but even its tail would swing to the rhythm like a lion. It was so lifelike that the audience cheered again and again. It was just like a real lion. It was furry and super awesome. It is a custom for the locals to touch the lion for good luck, and later on, they would put money in the lion's mouth to win good luck. The Ancestral Temple also has temples and Cantonese opera stages. The actors are very dedicated, and the locals in the audience are singing along. It is so beautiful to see the old people happily watching their favorite dramas and listening to local music. There are museums, Confucius Temple and so on... They are all great.

By Passers-by also return home |

I bought a ticket to enter the park and took a slow walk around with the guide. The number of tourists was acceptable and there were many places to see. There were also three fixed martial arts and lion dance performances every day (all performed by teenagers, the performances are not long, they cost money and there are many tricks, but you can join in the fun, but remember to wear sunscreen!). It still took me two or three hours to complete the whole tour.

By Huang Xiaopang |

It took me less than an hour to finish. Picture 1 shows the life story of Huang Feihong, and Picture 3 is the Qingzhen Parents Hall. There is no map. Maybe it is not the peak season now, so there are not many people. I heard that many locals go there. It is in the center of Chancheng District, with subways and buses. For someone like me who likes to be busy, I think it is just so-so...

There are many ancient buildings in the Ancestral Temple that are worth mentioning.

For example, the stage inside is the oldest and best preserved ancient stage in South China. The stage built more than 300 years ago is still in use today. Passing through the Lingying Archway, we found that almost everyone would lie on the stone railing beside a large pool to watch for a while. We were also very curious, afraid of missing out on something good. It turned out that everyone was throwing coins at the stone turtle and snake statues in the pool that symbolize Beidi. It is said that the more you hit, the better your fortune (it seems that all ancient monuments in China have similar coin throwing targets and auspicious meanings). The entire building is magnificent and majestic. There are many precious artworks on display in the main hall of the ancestral temple. These exhibits reflect the superb craftsmanship of Foshan during the Ming and Qing Dynasties.

Foshan Ancestral Temple is a landmark attraction. It is a temple building with strong local characteristics. The Huang Feihong Memorial Hall and Ip Man Hall built inside are both built for martial artists. Those who are interested in learning about the life of martial artists can go and have a look. Huang Feihong's life is legendary and tragic. The Thirteenth Aunt is fictionalized based on his fourth wife. Her later years are a bit bleak. Ip Man is a master of Wing Chun. There are many stories and photos about his life, as well as introductions to movies based on him. Huang Feihong's lion dance performance is performed in front of the Huang Feihong Memorial Hall. He asks for red envelopes from the audience for a long time. The actual performance time is not long. There are many people watching the performance. It is best to reserve a seat in advance.

You can learn about the history of Foshan and the deeds of heroes such as Huang Feihong and Ip Man, as well as the wonderful lion dance performance. Generally speaking, the Ancestral Temple is a worthwhile attraction in Foshan. The lion dance performance in the Ancestral Temple has three sessions a day: 10:00/14:15/15:30. There are many more people visiting the Ancestral Temple, after all, the memorial hall of the two famous martial arts masters is here. The architecture of the Ancestral Temple is also a major attraction, especially many architectural decorations use a lot of pottery, wood carvings, brick carvings, gray sculptures, etc., looking at the fine workmanship, I wonder how much time people at that time spent on carving.

When you first see the Ancestral Temple, you will be attracted by the exquisite and colorful pottery sculptures on its tile ridges. The pottery sculptures are all based on opera characters, highlighting the imaginative folk pottery art of Lingnan.

Going deeper into the temple, you will be shocked again by its gold-lacquered wood carving craftsmanship. Its gilded bronze statues, three-door gilded wood-carved eaves, gold-lacquered wood-carved gates, gold-lacquered wood-carved altars, etc., make the whole temple sparkle with gold.

As the most popular temple in Foshan, the Ancestral Temple attracts tens of millions of believers who come to pray for blessings. The wishing tree is hung with the believers' prayers and hopes.

The Ancestral Temple complex brings together three treasures of Foshan's ceramic culture, Cantonese opera culture and martial arts culture. It can be said to be a temple that embodies Foshan culture.

The Ancestral Temple holds a transcendental position in the hearts of Foshan people. Whether it is for young people to get married and have children, to study and start writing, or for the elderly to worship during festivals and enjoy their old age, this is an indispensable place for the locals. The Ancestral Temple is the spiritual holy place of Foshan people.

After many years of renovation and expansion since the Song, Ming and Qing dynasties, the ancestral temple is no longer just a place for worship and sacrifice. It has also added exhibition spaces for modern martial arts masters such as the Ip Man Memorial Hall and the Huang Feihong Memorial Hall. It also allows us to closely experience the heroic images we have always known in martial arts films.

The Chancheng Ancestral Temple, the Zhaoqing Yuecheng Dragon Mother Temple, and the Guangzhou Chen Clan Ancestral Hall are collectively known as the three great treasures of Lingnan ancient architecture. There is also the Huang Feihong Memorial Hall, where martial arts performances and lion dance performances are held every day.

The Ancestral Temple was first built during the Yuanfeng period of the Northern Song Dynasty (1078-1085). At that time, it was called Zutang, which was actually the Beidi Temple. At that time, the Pearl River Delta region was mostly a water town with many floods, and Beidi was the legendary god of flood control, so Beidi was worshipped as the patron saint of Chancheng people. The Ancestral Temple also displays many precious artworks, which reflect the superb craftsmanship of Chancheng during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Therefore, the Ancestral Temple is also known as the "Oriental Folk Art Palace". In addition to the ancient buildings of the Ancestral Temple, the Ancestral Temple scenic area also includes the Confucius Temple, the Huang Feihong Memorial Hall, and the Ip Man Hall. There are three martial arts performances and lion dance performances at the Huang Feihong Memorial Hall every day, which last for more than half an hour and are worth watching.

The Ancestral Temple is right next to Lingnan Tiandi. It is quite interesting that two martial arts masters, Ip Man and Wong Fei Hung, left their footprints here. At the big stage, I found the feeling of watching operas in front of the stage when I was a child.

The Ancestral Temple is a must-visit attraction in Foshan, and it is indeed very interesting. In addition to the regular Ip Man Hall and Huang Feihong Memorial Hall, the Ancestral Temple Museum is also worth recommending, especially the free daily explanations. If you have enough time, I strongly recommend listening to them. You can learn about the history of Foshan, the origin of Beidi, etc. It is also very helpful for visiting other attractions in the Ancestral Temple. In addition, Foshan itself is not crowded, so the overall experience is very good.

Fushan Ancestral Temple was first built during the Yuanfeng period of Emperor Shenzong of the Northern Song Dynasty. The current buildings were mainly built during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It is the largest temple in Lingnan region dedicated to the Northern God Zhenwu Emperor. During the Spring Festival, the temple was crowded with people and it was impossible to take a group photo. The religious atmosphere in Lingnan region is still very strong. There is nothing to see in terms of scenery. The main attraction is the exquisite gray sculptures and pottery sculptures with Lingnan characteristics in the temple. The wood carvings and brick carvings are relatively good in terms of carving and composition by Anhui standards. There is also a temple dedicated to Confucius in the temple. The Ming Dynasty Tiewei Tuo and Ming Dynasty lacquer clip statues in the temple are relatively precious. In addition, there is also a Ming Dynasty Lingying archway. From the perspective of the fresh, elegant and simple aesthetics of the Jianghuai region, the colors are too bright. There is also a memorial hall for Huang Feihong, a martial arts master and a famous Chinese medicine doctor from Foshan in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China in the ancestral temple. I feel that it is not a good experience to visit here because of the crowds of people. It lacks a sense of history. After visiting all the way, I still didn't experience the characteristics of the scenic spot very well. It was difficult to move in the scenic spot, and the noisy voices did make me feel a little impetuous. You can enter here for free with a tour guide certificate, which saves you the trouble of queuing at the door to buy tickets on holidays.

As a northerner, I felt the strong tradition and festive atmosphere in Guangzhou during the Spring Festival, and Foshan is a step above Guangzhou.

The Ancestral Temple is a popular tourist attraction during the Spring Festival. In addition to praying to the Northern Emperor, you can also experience rich folk customs here, see architecture (wood carvings, brick carvings), listen to Cantonese opera, watch lion dances, and watch martial arts. The essence of Lingnan culture can be felt here.

It covers memorial halls such as Ip Man and Wong Fei Hung, as well as the main hall, archway and other attractions. You need to buy tickets at the museum next to it, then walk back and enter the main gate. You can spend about 1-2 hours inside, mainly because the lion dance performance takes a little longer.

It was my first time in Guangdong. The culture was so rich and I also happened to see the lion dance, which was very exciting.

The building has Lingnan characteristics, very exquisite sculptures, and it also has a feeling of a golden building.

The Ancestral Temple was a place for public discussion in Foshan in the past. I came here with my parents when I was a child, and now I come here with my husband. A lot of things have changed. But it is still worth a visit. There is a Ye Wen Hall, where you can take a photo for free, but if you enlarge it, you will have to pay an extra 20 yuan.

Of course you have to go to the Ancestral Temple when you come to Foshan. Although it is called a temple, the space inside is quite large, with exhibition halls, museums, ancestral houses, etc. You can spend half a day to visit them carefully. The lion dance is not bad, although it is worth staring at the scorching sun, but the martial arts performance is a bit tasteless. I can understand the intensity of the two performances a day by the young actors, but they are too unprofessional and don't try hard at all. But the background music is great, which brings back many childhood memories~~

Zu Miao Liang Yuan Lingnan New World Nanfeng Ancient Stove

A very classic building complex, one of the three ancient buildings in Lingnan. To a certain extent, it is the symbol of Foshan. Tickets are 20 yuan. There is an audio guide.

The ancestral temple is the most classic building in this group of buildings, dedicated to the Northern Ancestor. There are many small things in the main hall that are also very good, such as bronze tripods, bronze mirrors, Buddha statues stored in the box, wood carvings on display, etc. The beams and columns of the building themselves are also unique.

Wanfu Stage in the Ancestral Temple is a stage that Cantonese opera attaches great importance to. All new plays must be auditioned here. The arena for the Extreme Challenge is also here.

There are many ancillary buildings, including the Confucius Temple, Huang Feihong Memorial Hall, and Ip Man Hall. There are also martial arts performances and lion dance performances.

It took about half a day to watch all of them.

The scenery is so-so, but the main thing is the show, it's nice to see the little lions

During the Spring Festival of 2015, my family went out to celebrate the Spring Festival in Guangzhou. On the morning of the first day of the Lunar New Year, my mother and daughter were still sleeping, but my wife and I had already taken the subway to Foshan. There were many people coming to the Foshan Ancestral Temple to worship their ancestors. Since we were not going to burn incense, we could skip the queue and go directly to the Huang Feihong Memorial Hall and Yip Man Hall. The New Year atmosphere in Guangdong is very strong, and there are many festive activities, including lion dance performances and martial arts performances.

A place worth visiting. I also saw the lion dance. It was just too hot.

I went there yesterday. It was raining. There were quite a lot of people because there was a stamp collecting activity in the temple. The scenery was just average. It was good enough to just see it. I went there for the memorial hall, but it was not very satisfactory. There were many elderly people and several mahjong tables. It was raining, so there was no lion dance performance.

A popular online attraction. There is a park underneath where you can have a picnic. I went there specifically to take this photo. I drove up and it was next to a tennis court. The place was blocked by wire. Everyone would flip over to take pictures, but there is nothing left except taking two pictures of this place. Hehe

Folk Art Museum There are different surprises when visiting the ancestral temple all year round

The Foshan Ancestral Temple is located in Chancheng District, Foshan City, Guangdong Province. It was first built during the Yuanfeng period of the Northern Song Dynasty (1078-1085) and rebuilt in the fifth year of the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty (1372). In the early Qing Dynasty, it gradually became a temple building with a complete system, rigorous structure and strong local characteristics. In the 25th year of the Guangxu period (1899), the Ancestral Temple was renovated to form the Ancestral Temple complex today. The Chancheng Ancestral Temple, the Zhaoqing Yuecheng Dragon Mother Temple and the Guangzhou Chen Clan Ancestral Hall are collectively known as the three treasures of Lingnan ancient architecture, and are now national key cultural relics protection units.

The main hall of the ancestral temple also displays many precious artworks, such as 70 pieces of 30 kinds of weapons, copper wall and iron wall ceremonial guards, a giant bronze mirror with a diameter of 1.31 meters, a large bronze tripod, a bronze bell and an incense burner. Ironware includes a large iron tripod, an iron tripod, iron paintings, etc. The park also displays stone plaques, stone beasts from the Ming and Qing dynasties, a stele inscribed with the word "Chancheng" in positive text in the "Zhenguan 2nd Year" of the Tang Dynasty, and a replica next to the stone piece. Reassembled and restored pottery tile ridges, a large number of gold and wood carvings of architectural components, large iron-cast warrior statues, iron-cast auspicious beasts, iron cannons, etc. These exhibits reflect the superb craftsmanship of Chancheng during the Ming and Qing dynasties. No wonder some foreign friends who come to visit the ancestral temple call it the "Palace of Oriental Folk Art".

The 20 yuan ticket is not really worth it, but it's worth a visit. Tickets are free for people over 70 years old. The best thing to see is the martial arts performance and lion dance performance in Huang Feihong.
