The full name of Dapeng Fortress is "Dapeng Guarding Thousand Households Fortress", and Shenzhen is also known as Pengcheng because of this.
This was once a coastal defense military fortress in southern China during the Ming and Qing dynasties.

Dapeng Ancient City, Longgang District, Shenzhen

Today [the sun] is too strong [victory] I played around in the ancient city for 2 hours [love] Ming Daoguang came from Yipinjiangjun Lane. Here, the Lai family has three generations and five generals. The family can be traced back to the Ji surname of King Wu of Zhou, and later changed to Lai. The gate is tall, and there are four or five courtyards [hug], but each civilian family is really small, and the door is also super short!

Dapeng Fortress, whose full name is "Dapeng Guarding Thousand Households Fortress", was first built in the Ming Dynasty. It was a coastal defense military fortress for resisting Japanese pirates and thieves on the southeast coast of my country during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Dapeng Ancient Town is very small and lively. Except for a main lane that sells various similar small souvenirs and various pastries from Yiwu like other ancient towns, the rest of the alleys are very quiet. There are also many residential houses and inns converted from residential houses. In today's ancient towns that are commercialized one after another, Dapeng Fortress still retains a lot of its original appearance.

By Derekwong |

Dapeng Fortress was built in 1394, more than 600 years ago, covering an area of about 100,000 square meters. The city wall is 6 meters high and 1,200 meters long. The city is divided into four gates: east, west, south and north.

The reason why Dapeng Fortress is called Fortress is that its full name is "Dapeng Guarding Thousand Households Fortress". In the Ming Dynasty, the guards were collectively called "Fortress" or "Weicheng".

The residential buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties have now become various specialty shops or inns. You can choose to come to the city during non-holidays when there are fewer people, stroll through the alleys, and slowly feel the traces of history.

By Simple. |

Dapeng Fortress is located in Pengcheng Community, Dapeng New District, Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province. It was a military fortress for China's coastal defense in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Among the coastal fortresses, Dapeng is the most famous. It is the place where the Opium War started. Shenzhen is also known as "Pengcheng". The gate tower of Dapeng Fortress is magnificent, and the scale, pattern and overall style of the Ming and Qing Dynasties have been preserved to this day. There are nearly 100,000 square meters of ancient buildings and residential houses in the city. Its street pattern and residential style are all relics from the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The city gates and residential houses from the Ming and Qing Dynasties are well preserved, with a long history and culture.

There are many small shops with unique characteristics in many ancient towns in the city, selling small handicrafts, as well as various drinks, snacks, inns, bars and restaurants.

Since it is close to Jiaochangwei (only one road away), I recommend visiting both places together. It is still worth a visit.

Suitable for slow-paced travel, especially with your significant other. Self-driving tours can be parked directly in the parking lot next to the ancient city. The order of the visit can be entered from the east gate, then to the north gate, west gate, and then from the west gate back to the central street, and then go south to the south gate of Dapeng Ancient City. Generally, the most central street has the most people, and boutiques and food stores are more concentrated. Going forward from the south gate, there are many fast food restaurants, usually 20-30 a fast food, the taste is average, and some dishes are salty. The overall consumption level of the ancient city is not too high. If you want to eat well and eat enough, you can try to prepare it yourself. Walking at a slow pace, two or three hours is almost enough. If you want more entertainment programs, you can go to Jiaochangwei Beach and take a speedboat out to sea for a circle. If there are 8 people, each person is about 40 yuan.

The most distinctive features are the various B&Bs, which have brightly colored exteriors and reasonable prices; however, the quality of the beach is not that good. This place is more suitable for family or class reunions.

Dapeng Ancient City

I built my house in a human world without the noise of carriages and horses.

By Drift Bottle |

It's raining, I walk in the rain with an umbrella, every corner and every eave is vicissitudes. There are not many people, so I have time to carefully ponder the walls, trees and stone roads.

By Yun Duoduo |

It is a unique place with many youth hostels. Jiaochangwei is just opposite. You can also go to Yangmeikeng (if you have a car)

By -Peiei |

Small town stories, street charm. Pleasant scenery, suitable for walking.

By JiL👑 |

There are very unique homestays suitable for quiet and slow tasting

By Shallow |

It is a literary place. I went to Dapeng in March. The old town in the off-season has a different flavor. There are not many people on the beach. If you want, you can enjoy your time alone.

There are many coconut milk vendors in the ancient city. They are in a spherical container and look delicious. However, it is not natural coconut milk. It is very greasy and sweet. I don’t recommend it at all.

There are some homemade brews in the ancient city, which taste very good. You can buy a pot and bring it back to invite a few friends for a gathering.

By yichen |

The ancient style and charm give it a sense of ancient times. The green vines match the old buildings, which is beautiful.

By Li Xue |

I went there on New Year's Day and there were huge crowds of people. Although the ancient city still retains some distinctive buildings, most of the newly built shops have changed the character of this ancient city.

By nf0001384 |

Actually, I was always entangled before coming here, because I saw the reviews on the Internet and the experience of ancient towns in the past. Chinese ancient towns are really the same, one street, shopping, and that's it. So I didn't have any hope at all. After coming here, it is true. Enter from the south gate and exit from the north gate. There is one street and two rows of shops selling small commodities that can be seen everywhere in the country. If it is crowded with people, it is better to skip this attraction. However, if you go in the early morning or at night to avoid the peak of traffic, and if you take a closer look at the planning of the ancient town, in fact, in addition to the main road that takes 5 minutes to walk, the small shops, houses, and ancient buildings on the side may arouse a little more interest and artistic sense.

If you are interested in the beach and it is not such a hot season, it is recommended to spend 2-3 days visiting several spots in Dapeng New District. The flow of people and weather are very important.

Dapeng Fortress is an ancient village in Dapeng Street, Longgang District, Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province, China. Dapeng Fortress has ancient houses and ancient streets that are best preserved. It was a military fortress for China's South China Sea defense during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It is open to the public free of charge and has convenient transportation.

By To Kang Ge |

The ancient city of over 600 years has kept the enemy out of the country, fought against Japanese pirates, Portuguese slaves, and resisted the British. General Lai's family was loyal and defended the country for decades. What an exciting and heroic spirit. Now, we, the ancient city, remember our predecessors, and we should start from the beginning and work hard to build China, so as not to be laughed at by future generations!

By Ancient Charm |

Dapeng Ancient City is very similar to Gulangyu Island in Xiamen. There are many alleys and homestays in it, but there are clear signboards in the alleys. Don't worry about not finding the way. There are many snacks or restaurants, the price is relatively affordable, it is worth recommending. There are also handicrafts for sale inside, you can buy some to give to friends, it is also good to keep as a souvenir. The gate of the ancient city is very similar to the ancient city wall, it feels very historical, if you can take pictures, you can take a lot of beautiful photos here, antique, stay in the city for a long time to go to the ancient city to experience the ancient city culture, it feels very good.

By May |

A military fortress from the Ming and Qing dynasties, it is well preserved and, most importantly, not crowded.

By soul |

This is a place that exceeded my expectations. It is an ancient city with a lot of charm. If I have to compare it, I think it is much better than those so-called major ancient cities and towns. There is public transportation.

It looks like it’s not fully developed inside and still has the simplicity of an ancient town. It’s not a very famous place either, which gives me a good feeling.

It's great to come here from downtown Shenzhen for a weekend break.

If you like ancient towns, you can go for a stroll. I really liked it. It was raining when I went there, which somewhat affected my mood, but my trip was not affected. Great!

By Mr. X. |

Standing on the gate tower of Dapeng Fortress and looking at the crowded crowds below, the ancient city is gradually becoming commercialized, but it is still a great place to visit and take photos.

By Lonely Traveler |

As the first of the eight scenic spots in Shenzhen, this old town is worth a visit. In fact, there are mostly some houses, and there are some generals' residences and Tianhou Temple for people to visit. But it is worth a visit for its title as one of the eight scenic spots.

By China-TravelNote users |

Overall it's OK, but the whole village is still a little less distinctive, and there is still a big gap compared to the famous ancient city. Many toilets charge fees and the management can't keep up

By Susu goes traveling |

The ancient city is not big and can be visited in 1 hour

The commercialization of the ancient city is serious, but not too serious either.

There is everything you need to eat.

The eaves of the building are beautifully carved

There are also quiet streets that retain their original appearance.

By Lufei |

The first of the “Eight Scenic Spots of Shenzhen”, you can see the City Gate Tower, the General’s Residence, the Canoe Museum, and the folk houses.

By Tuyouyou-The Day After Tomorrow |

It was raining, but it still felt good. I went there with a handsome guy I met in Yangmeikeng. There were folk customs around! (Basic tickets are free)

Dapeng Ancient City is an ancient cultural city with a long history. In order to better protect the ancient monuments, it has become an ancient city commercial district with people living in it.

If you wear a beautiful and elegant ancient costume and walk in this ancient city, you will feel like you have traveled back in time, haha.

By Old Moonlight |

The predecessor was a guard post in the Ming Dynasty, which is also the origin of Shenzhen being called "Pengcheng". Free entry. Some buildings such as city gate towers, stone streets, houses, and granaries are still preserved. There are some ancient flavors, but the small streets have become snack bars. It is suitable for strolling and can be visited in half an hour. The scenery is best in the evening, suitable for climbing the city tower and looking at the mountains in the distance. There are also Dongshan Temple and Jiaochangwei Beach nearby. Half of them choose to stay in the homestays in Jiaochangwei and find opportunities to visit Dapeng Fortress and Dongshan Temple.

By Big K |

The buildings in Dapeng Ancient City are well preserved. You don't need to pay for tickets to enter the ancient city. It seems that the museum and the general's mansion need tickets, but the rest don't. Anyway, I haven't spent money on visiting attractions. It is recommended to travel for more than two days, because you can see the ancient city at night, which has a unique flavor. There are also many bars in the evening where singers are resident, so you can go and have fun. It is best to stroll slowly in the ancient city. Generally, you can finish the tour in half a day. There are four city gates, and you can go and stroll. Don't worry about getting lost, because it is not big inside, as long as you don't go out of the city gate. There are several city gates that can be climbed. It feels great to take pictures there. There are wishing trees on them. If you are not in a hurry, stroll slowly in the ancient city. There are snacks in the ancient city, some special restaurants in Dapeng, and many small things. I was tired in the afternoon and sat in the milk tea shop in the square, listening to the sound of the wind blowing over the eaves and the birds singing. It was so pleasant. Walk and stop, eat and stroll, and enjoy the slow time.

Accommodation in the ancient city is relatively cheap, and there are few youth hostels. The types and prices of homestays are available online, so I won’t recommend them. They range from 100 to 300.

There are many foods in Gucheng and Jiaochangwei. Gucheng Restaurant should be more authentic. You can try it if you travel with friends or families.

Clothing style: You can try retro clothes in the ancient city, such as the Republic of China costumes, cheongsams or ethnic style clothes. These clothes are sold in the ancient city, but Taobao is cheaper, haha, after all, they are just for taking pictures.

I like the rainy season in Shenzhen. It rains as soon as it rains. The must-have weapon is an umbrella. Today, I went to Dapeng Fortress in the heavy rain. It is a place with some history. The buildings and alleys here are my favorite places to shoot. Although it is a rainy day, it can still give people a different feeling.

By Caterpillar |

This is one of the few towns that can carry the history of Shenzhen, with magnificent city gates, winding alleys paved with bluestone, and well-preserved buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties. And like most ancient cities, it is still slightly commercialized after development.

By Xiao Lai |

The ancient and vicissitudes of life feel, indifferent and there are many snack streets

By Hammer Sister |

Most of the buildings on both sides of the main road have been converted into commercial storefronts, selling some clothes and handicrafts! The old houses have a lot of flavor and feel!

By Wei:) |

When we walked into the ancient city, we loved it so much, it was so charming.

We had visited almost every corner of the ancient city, so it was better to go to a place with fewer people so that I could take pictures slowly. We walked around the ancient city until about 6 o'clock, and then went to the nearby Jiaochangwei. We seemed to have returned to our childhood, looking for the long-lost happiness. I have forgotten how long it has been since I found this feeling.

Dapeng Ancient City, also known as Dapeng Fortress, is located in Pengcheng Village, Dapeng Town, Longgang District, east of Shenzhen City. It covers an area of 110,000 square meters and was built in the 27th year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1394). It is currently the only national key cultural relic protection unit in Shenzhen.

An ancient town located in the suburbs of Shenzhen, it is listed as a famous historical and cultural village in China. When you enter the ancient town, you will see a majestic city tower, many historical buildings, and special shops. You can stroll around, take photos, and feel the simplicity!

Dapeng Fortress is located in a remote area and is very small. It takes 1-2 hours to visit it. You may spend most of your time on the road. You don't need a ticket to enter the ancient city, and you can exchange tickets for free with your ID card at the museum. There is nothing good to see in the ancient city, but it has great historical significance and is the root of Shenzhen.

By Chill |

Although the transportation is not very convenient, we took a ride from Luohu, which didn't feel very convenient, but, but, but, this place is really worth the money, free of charge, and walking deep into every alley inside is really very good, quaint, many places have disappeared in such a big city, what we hope to see is these preserved history, the preserved old houses, we will miss the past and encourage ourselves 🤗

By Kors_Kwok |

It's not too big and you can finish the walk in a morning or afternoon. It's very close to Jiaochangwei, so friends who come to the beach for the weekend or for fun can stop by and take a look.

By ๑´ω`๑ |

The place is not big. There are more people on the main road from the South Gate to the North Gate, and fewer people in other alleys. Generally speaking, the ancient style is not strong enough. It is estimated that it will take 1 hour to play.

By larryjobs |

The garbage among the garbage, too commercialized, no different from a pedestrian street. Except for the two gates, it is basically impossible to tell that it is an ancient city. The food is basically imported from other places. The roasted quail eggs should not be a local specialty, but it is not bad. The other things are the prices of the scenic area, Aiguo (Hakka food, originally should belong to the local area) 4 yuan each. Pig's trotter ring (Chaoshan specialty) 5 yuan for two. I won't go into details about the others.

By Martian User |

Dapeng Fortress is a place that bears the vicissitudes of Shenzhen. Here, the majestic and solemn city gates are simple in style; the residential houses from the Ming and Qing dynasties are well preserved; the alleys paved with bluestone slabs are narrow and winding; several magnificent and unique "generals' residences" from the Qing Dynasty are distributed in an orderly manner, among which the Zhenwei General's Residence of Lai Enjue, a famous anti-British general, is the most spectacular. In addition, there are some historical sites such as Phoenix Square, Tianhou Palace, Zhaogong Temple, and Zuotang Office Ruins in the ancient city, which are suitable for leisurely strolling.

In 1996, a "Dapeng Ancient City Museum" was established with the purpose of cultural relic protection, historical research and tourism development.

It is listed as a famous historical and cultural village in China and the fifth batch of national key cultural relics protection units. It is one of the eight major scenic spots in Shenzhen and a patriotism education base. Most of the original residents immigrated to Hong Kong, the Netherlands or the United Kingdom. The villagers in this village speak Dapeng dialect. The famous historical relics are Longjing, Lai Mansion, Liu Mansion, four city gates, etc.

Dapeng Fortress, as the first of the eight scenic spots in Shenzhen, is an ancient city from the Ming Dynasty and a famous military outpost in ancient times. The ancient city gate of Dapeng Fortress is well preserved, the general's mansion in the city is majestic and magnificent, and the residential buildings are also arranged in an orderly manner. With the tourism development of Dapeng, Shenzhen, Dapeng Fortress has gradually become an indispensable landscape in Shenzhen; in recent years, many people with literary and artistic feelings have come to Dapeng Fortress, renting a small house and decorating it into a unique homestay courtyard. There are also some distinctive handicraft workshops and small bars. The current Dapeng Fortress not only retains the original appearance of the ancient city, but also has the prosperity of the ancient city in the past. It is worth recommending a visit!

The reason I came here was because all the beaches around the typhoon were closed. Looking at the photos in travel notes, I thought this place wasn't that great and it was too old, so I came here with the mentality that there was really nowhere else to go.

I was really attracted by the scene in front of me when I arrived. Because it was raining at night, I didn't take many photos and it was not beautiful, but you can take a leisurely walk around the ancient city. I feel that this is actually the place where the original residents of Dapeng returned to their hometown. There are still some houses that have not been rented out. I felt a sense of warmth when I saw the house.

There are many homestays and hotels with unique architectural features inside and outside the city, including modern European style and of course the most common one is pastoral style. Several houses are surrounded by big trees or plants like ivy. It looks so nice, but I don’t know where to start taking pictures.

If I have the chance, I will go shopping again when the weather is good.

It was a coastal defense military fortress in southern China during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, with a history of more than 600 years of resisting foreign aggression. Dapeng Fortress is also a free ancient city, not large in scale. For sightseeing, it is mainly around the two streets in the center of the ancient city, east-west (Cross Street) and north-south (Nanmen Street). The north-south streets are more lively and tourists are more concentrated, while the east-west streets are relatively deserted. There are four gates in the ancient city, east-west, south-north, of which the southeast and north gates still retain the original city walls and gates, so it is recommended to visit all three gates. Generally speaking, the ancient city is well preserved, and there are not too many buildings to destroy the style of the ancient city.

I went out in the morning and took the train, subway and bus. I finally arrived at the ancient city at noon because the weather was too hot. I walked into a coffee shop. The owner's smile was soothing. The menu was just like the owner's clothes. He was wearing work shorts + white T-shirt (with two conspicuous stains). It was simple but mostly suited my taste. When there were many people, the owner played and sang a few folk songs (including "Rose" which I liked). When I was leaving, I asked for his phone number. The owner asked me to add WeChat. At that time, I was busy catching a bus. After leaving, I left in a hurry. I added it later and found that there was no such number. I must have remembered it wrong. I hope that friends who go to Dapeng Fortress can go to this shop to ask the owner's WeChat for me. Thank you very much! ! It seems to be called "Stone Bar". There is a long stone bench at the door.

When I came here 8 years ago, you had to pay for tickets to enter Dapeng Fortress (but there were ways to sneak in, and the security was not strict). At that time, there were still a lot of local residents living there. Now it has been turned into a free tourist attraction, and most of the local residents who lived there before have moved out, replaced by a large number of businesses. Although Dapeng Ancient City is becoming cleaner and more convenient, it is also becoming more and more commercialized, without much human touch.

By Tina |

The homestay and customs of Dapeng Fort make people feel very comfortable and relaxed. I like the cozy life here. I stayed here for one night, went out to the beach to enjoy the sea breeze and drink some wine. There are many bars here. I sat in the bar at night and listened to the resident singers singing quietly. It was very nice.

Pengcheng Huaqian Valley in Dapeng Fortress, Shenzhen, has various cherry blossoms, peach blossoms, Gesang flowers, and a large area of enthusiastically blooming rapeseed flowers, quietly waiting for you to appreciate their beauty and feel the most beautiful pastoral scenery around you. In addition to enjoying the flowers here, you can also visit the surrounding historical and cultural scenery, Dapeng Fortress, Dongshan Temple, Jiaochangwei Beach, etc. The flowers, the temple, the sea, and the fortress are enough to make you have a fulfilling and wonderful holiday time. Pengcheng Huaqian Valley, I believe everyone is familiar with this name, because of Hua Qiangu, haha, now the names of scenic spots are keeping pace with the times, but the landscape here is indeed quite consistent with its name, thousands of flowers, it feels like I have never seen so many flowers in my life, my horizons have been broadened, it is said that this is still the back garden of Shenzhen, in order to witness the style, I drove here by myself, it feels like a pretty fresh place haha.

The Lingnan-style ancient city should be the oldest area in Shenzhen, after all, Shenzhen does not have a long history. The ancient city seems to be another Gulangyu Island, but the buildings are still more ancient buildings rather than small villas. The ancient city is not big, and it will take a while to visit, unless you take a break in a cafe or restaurant. It is worth noting that there is a bronze statue of Sun Wukong outside the south gate of the ancient city who will take the initiative to take pictures with you. Of course, when you are ready to leave after taking pictures, he will show the fee tag on his chest, and you will definitely not see or pay attention to this tag when taking pictures.

Tour itinerary: Dongshan Temple - Dapeng Fortress - Yangmeikeng Beach.

Dongshan Temple, the Buddha statue is magnificent! It's worth going. I brought my own incense with me. In fact, there is free incense inside! I kept praising how much money it cost to build it!

Dapeng Fortress, next to Dongshan Temple! Be careful not to accept the incense offered to you! There are tricks! The middle street is full of small shops! In fact, if you like taking pictures, art, and fresh, you can go to places with fewer people! There are special gains!

It costs 20 yuan to take photos of the living statue! Don't take photos casually!

Parking fee: Dongshan Temple and Dapeng Fortress together, 10 yuan per day! Yangmeikeng can park on the roadside for free!

I like the ancient city very much, and I like the old feeling. Blue brick and tile houses, ordinary alleys, there may be traces of the old house I lived in when I was a child. Dapeng Fort is not very big, and it takes about an hour to walk around inside and outside. The main streets are all commercial streets, where you can buy specialties and small accessories. Most of the outer circles of the ancient city are homestays. In fact, it is quite good to live here. The density is not very high, it is relatively quiet, and it is also relatively convenient. It is also close to Jiaochangwei and relatively cheap.

Now Dapeng Fortress has begun to commercialize, and the streets are full of so-called souvenirs that are everywhere. The prices are relatively high, and we can only say that they are indeed the prices within the tourist attraction. The only thing that attracted us was those unique bars and inns. It looks very special.

I went in and walked around. The place wasn't very crowded. It was in the most crowded places. But I didn't see many things. I didn't have enough time. I'll go there another day when I have time.

Dapeng Fortress was a coastal defense military fortress in China during the Ming and Qing dynasties. It has a history of more than 600 years of resisting foreign aggression. Shenzhen is also known as "Pengcheng" because of this. The fortress is not big. When you walk in, you can see many blue brick and stone tile buildings. It still maintains a simple and solemn charm, which is rare in Shenzhen, and it is free.

There were a lot of people on National Day, but the weather was good yesterday. If you have good photography skills, you can take a lot of artistic photos. Dapeng Fortress is a building from the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It is still very rewarding to learn about the history of Shenzhen.

The first place we went to was Dapeng Ancient City. When I checked the guide before, it said that Dapeng Ancient City needed to buy tickets, so I didn't think too much before going there. I didn't bring my ID card. As a result, I found that I could get a free ticket to visit the scenic spot with my ID card. I regretted it at that time. Fortunately, my friends who were traveling with me brought their ID cards, and there was a representative who could get a free ticket. Haha, fortunately, fortunately~ After entering, everything I saw was green bricks and green tiles, even the road under my feet was like this. There is a sense of age, but I like it inexplicably. I looked at the general's mansion at the door. The house is very big and the garden is also quite big. Walking on the road, I imagined what the scene was like before. The scenery is beautiful, the field of vision is very open, and the weather is very good~ If you are tired, you can sit down and rest your feet, drink cold drinks, chat, and the breeze blows, which is very pleasant! The ticket to see the flowers costs 50 yuan, and the group ticket is 35. Although it is not the right season, there are no rape flowers and sunflowers, and only three or four kinds of flowers are left, but I still can't help it. I bought a ticket to go in and take a look under the scorching sun. This was a pleasant surprise. While we were wandering around, we unexpectedly discovered such a poetic place. Although the restaurant had not opened when we arrived, the owner was very nice and asked us to sit there and take a rest. Such a beautiful scenery is like a paradise!

Dapeng Fort has four gates in the east, west, south and north. You can use your ID card to register and get tickets to visit some scenic spots in the city at the south gate. Go out of the south gate and cross the road to Jiaochangwei Beach. There are General Zhenwei's Mansion and some generals and officials' mansions of the Lai family, Liu family and other generals in the city. My friend also spent 45 dollars to open a clam in the Pearl Square, which contained 27 pearls that could be made into a bracelet. There are also pottery workshops to play with. Some snacks along the street are also good, especially the handicrafts are very beautiful. Many of them are made of shells and are very popular. There are also some more remote alleys with literary tea and juice. If you are tired, you can order a cup to rest and relax.
