Basha Miao Village

Basha Miao Village is a pure Miao village with more than 300 households. Due to its remote location, it still retains an ancient and primitive way of life. The wooden buildings in the village are simple and quaint; surrounded by dense forests, all the villagers are Miao people, with primitive clothing and peculiar hairstyles, which are called: Qin Dynasty hairstyles and Han Dynasty fashions. The most distinctive feature of Basha is the makeup and hairstyle of Miao men. Basha men attach great importance to their buns, which are the most important gender symbol in men's attire.

It took about an hour to drive to Basha. Although the name of "the last gunman tribe" sounds primitive, the ticket office of Basha is relatively modern and luxurious. In the ticket office, you need to wait for the bus to enter the village. With the gun-firing ceremony, the performance ended. The performers all carried reed pipes and spears back to the village to rest. We also followed their team and walked into the Miao village. I asked the tour guide why the green cloth jacket was so shiny. The tour guide said that when the Miao people in Basha dyed their clothes, they added a lot of egg white, so the fabric would feel very bright and stiff. Most of the young people in the Miao village have gone to other places to make a living, and the people left behind in the village are basically the elderly and children. The Miao girl on the welcoming stone at the village gate has her own expression pack, which attracts many tourists.

The car can only drive to the parking lot halfway up the mountain. Buy a ticket and take a bus up the mountain. The tour guide will take you to watch the show and tour. The bus costs 20 yuan per person and the show costs 40 yuan per person. The show is a must-see. There is one show at 12 o'clock and one at 3 o'clock in the afternoon. If you miss the time, you have to wait for the next one.

In order to respect their customs, the relevant departments have granted special approval to allow each Basha man to have a hunting rifle. According to the tour guide, it is the safest place to carry a gun. There has never been an incident of injury. In addition, there is no barber shop in Basha, and they use sickles to shave. During the performance, it was really eye-opening. Think about the sharp sickle, the head is not tense, but the neck is tense! The lamppost in front of the village is also a gun. Guizhou's respect for the design level deserves respect. During the performance, an audience member was caught on the scene to perform a wedding ceremony. Drink three bowls of rice wine in a row. More than 30 degrees! The return gift from the newlyweds was glutinous rice. Although it was cold, it was very delicious.

There are many local cars at the entrance of the parking lot. We can give them the ticket money and take us in, but we can't watch the show. We got on the black car directly at noon and silently wrote down the license plate. But the locals are still very simple. Basha is a newly developed tourist attraction and it is not perfect. There is no legendary beauty. Maybe I have been to many villages and found many similarities.

Basha Miao Village is located in Congjiang County, Guizhou Province.

Basha Miao Village is a mysterious tribe. It is the only place in mainland my country where guns are allowed, and is known as the "last gunman tribe."

By Follow me everywhere |

Basha Miao tribe is 8 kilometers away from Congjiang County. It is the last gunman tribe in China. They live in 5 villages in the vast forest at the foot of Moon Mountain. Walking into Basha, you can see dense forests everywhere. The forests are dense and dark, and there are bird paths and silkworms everywhere. It is very hidden. Few outsiders have entered for thousands of years. Basha people mainly grow rice and hunt for companions.

Basha Village is not big. It is built at the mouth of the mountain ridge and on the half slope facing the Duliu River. The wooden buildings in the village are simple and quaint. It is surrounded by dense forests and has an elegant environment. All the villagers are Miao people, wearing traditional clothes and unique hair ornaments.

This is a designated tourist village with many farmhouses, so food and accommodation are not a problem.

Basha men carry guns for life, which is a custom handed down from hunting in the past. Now, it is a must-have in celebration activities. (They are all good at posing, these pictures were taken during the Spring Festival in 2007)

Another iconic custom is the sickle shaving, which was also seen during the Spring Festival in 2007. The hair around the man's head is shaved with a sickle, leaving only the top of the head and twisting it into a bun.

Basa is a designated village for travel agencies. There are tour groups coming here almost every morning. They will organize a performance, in which hair shaving is part of the performance, and individual tourists can watch it for free.

The performances in the village are very unique. The musket welcoming performance at the door scared the children of other tourists who came in with me, and then the crying of the children scared me, hahahaha. Before I went there, I thought the most mysterious thing was shaving with a sickle. It was not until I saw it with my own eyes that I realized that a sickle can really shave your head.

By Purple Ice Dream |

Basa Miao Village is located in this mysterious fairyland deep in the mountains and old forests, almost isolated from the outside world. People in the tribe still follow the living customs of their ethnic group, hold coming-of-age ceremonies, shave their heads with sickles for chopping wood, keep a "knot" on the top of their heads, and carry guns. This is the only ethnic minority so far that is allowed to carry hunting rifles (Basa people have obtained special approval from the public security authorities to carry guns).

Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village, located in Leishan County, Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province, is the largest Miao village in China and even in the world. The stilt houses built on the mountain and the well-preserved traditional Miao culture are like an open-air museum. Since it was developed into a tourist attraction in 2008, Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village, with a population of only a few thousand people, has welcomed two to three million tourists a year.

Zhaoxing Dong Village is about 46 kilometers away from Basha Miao Village in Congjiang County. When you drive to 3 kilometers away from Miao Village, you will see a railing. No outside vehicles are allowed to enter. Generally, tourists must transfer to the scenic area bus here. However, if tourists have booked a hotel or inn in the scenic area, they can drive into the scenic area after contact and verification. At 15:00 every afternoon, dozens of men with muskets on their shoulders and a group of beautiful beauties from the village gather at Lushengping in Miao Village to perform musket dance and Miao songs and dances for visiting tourists. Basha gunmen fire guns into the sky on the spot to welcome the visitors. In particular, the local custom of men shaving their heads with sickles leaves a deep impression. Of course, there are also wedding performances, which are nothing more than finding a burly young traveler to have a "wedding" with a Miao girl to increase the atmosphere on the scene and increase the opportunity to receive a "bride price".

The external propaganda slogan here is: the last gunman tribe in the world.

By Uncle Kai JK |

"A tree is a tree when you are born, and a tree is a tree when you die." When a person in Basha is born, his parents will plant a tree for him, which symbolizes the beginning of his life. When this person dies, the people in the village will cut down the tree that grew up with him, make his coffin, wrap his body in it and bury it in the soil deep in the dense forest.

Basha Miao Village is the last gunner tribe in China. Basha still retains ancient living customs such as wearing muskets, shaving heads with sickles, and worshiping ancient trees. Most of the people who come here are tourist groups, and it seems that there are only a few of us individual tourists.

Guizhou's tourism service industry has been quite good in recent years, and the supporting facilities are quite complete. But this village is quite small. Maybe because I am from Guangxi, I feel that these villages are similar to those in Guangxi, so there are not many surprises.

Biasha, a descendant of Chiyou

Before I went there, my impression of Chiyou was "copper head and iron forehead", "eight arms and eight toes", "human body and cow hooves, four eyes and six hands" and "eating sand and stones". But in fact, there are amiable grandpas and grandmas and children, every family, a very warm and beautiful place🌝

The ticket to Basha is 50 yuan per person. You need to take a sightseeing bus to get in. Only cash is accepted. I don’t remember how much it was, maybe a few dozen yuan. There is an additional charge for performances, which we didn’t watch.

Basha Miao Village is a commercial village, flying the flag of the last gunman tribe, attracting guests from all over the world. Miao men not only carry guns but also swords. To get to Basha, you have to drive a short winding mountain road to the top of the mountain. I guess it was a green forest village before. Shooting a gun costs 20 yuan, bang bang.

By Taotao |

Although tourism has been developed in Basha Miao Village, the habits of the local people have not changed. According to the tour guide, the reason why guns have been allowed here is that there has not been a single gun-related injury in hundreds of years, and their clan rules are very strict. The locals are divided into two groups, A and B, to perform for tourists, but the wages are paid on the same day after the performance, and the barbaric temperament still exists. There were not many tourists that morning, but they still worked hard during the performance and did not perfunctorily do it. Several of us have been observing and said with a smile: "Look, those people are dancing with their lives."

The reception begins with playing the Lusheng, followed by the sound of the gun, which is relatively simple. The performance assembly includes Lusheng performances, singing and dancing performances, wedding customs demonstrations, hair-shaving performances, hand-holding dances, etc.

The sickle shaving performance was originally a local custom during the coming-of-age ceremony for boys.

After lunch, I walked around the village and saw the girls working very hard at embroidery. There were both adults and children. From their chats, I knew they were preparing clothes for the upcoming Miao New Year. Most of the men were sleeping, gathering their energy for the afternoon's work. The houses here are similar to those in the Dong village, all built of wood, and most of them are two-story. In the past, the lower floor was used to raise livestock, and the upper floor was used for living. Now the living area for residents and the area for raising livestock have been separated.

By leliawl |

It is recommended that you arrive before the village gate welcomes guests. There will be a guide who will lead you all the way to the Lusheng Hall to watch the performance. After the performance, you can walk around the village.

When I was making the travel guide, I heard a lot of introductions about Basha Miao Village as "the last gunman tribe in the world". I was deeply attracted by its customs and culture such as shaving with sickles, gunman culture, and welcoming guests with guns. But when I went there, I was a little disappointed.

The Basha Miao Village Exhibition Hall provides a preliminary understanding of the historical development, customs and people of Basha through written introductions.

90% of the houses here are wooden, so be careful of fire.

The performances of Basha Miao Village are held in Gusheng Hall. When we arrived, there were only the last two shows, so the staff let us watch them for free. Thank you!

Nowadays, firearms are basically used for performances. Hunting is not allowed in normal times because of the need to protect wild animals. After taking a photo, some people will ask for tips, and it is up to you to give as much or as little as you want.

The further I went in, the heavier my mood became. This place is really poor. Many homes have almost no decent furniture. Some people eat and raise pigs in the same room. When I walked past some places, I could smell the faint smell of pig manure from a distance. It was so down-to-earth.

It was not until the third day that I found out that every day and night, different ritual groups would have sit-down singing performances that lasted about an hour and were free to watch.

Tickets 40/person + Tickets 40/person + Round-trip shuttle bus 10/person

Basha is the most crowded scenic spot I have ever seen in Southeast Guizhou. I was not used to it when I first entered. Basha is a relatively mature scenic spot, and it is also very close to Congjiang County, which can be reached in half an hour. However, because it is a bit too mature, the experience of this village is not very good. There are many children waiting on the roadside to take photos or be photographed. It depends on personal preference. You can go there, but don't have too high expectations.

By gcdesign |

According to the driver, Basha Miao Village is located at the foot of Moon Mountain and built on the mountain. It is a village inhabited by the Miao people and is also the "last armed tribe" registered and allowed by the national public security organs. The most famous performances are the sickle shaving and ancient tree worship performances performed every day in Lusheng Hall. It was almost noon when we arrived at the entrance of Basha Scenic Area. Since private cars are not allowed to enter the scenic area, we can only put the luggage on the driver's car, take the valuables and walk to the tourist center to buy tickets to enter the gate, and then take the scenic area shuttle bus for more than 10 minutes to enter the village.

The show that usually takes place at 3 pm was temporarily added at 2 pm due to the holiday. The discounted ticket price is 70 yuan per person. The so-called performance stage is actually a flat open space with a higher terrain in the village. It is said that it was created by the ancestors who spontaneously organized the performance. There are towering ancient trees all around. The length and width of the open space are less than 100 meters, and some steps are built around it for tourists to ride. The program content is quite rich, and the unique culture of the Miao village, such as the reed pipe welcoming guests, marriage customs, and the firing of guns to send off guests, is vividly expressed.

After watching the wonderful performances, we walked around some nearby villages to get a close look at the local customs and practices. Overall, the local people are still simple, but commercialization has obviously affected and changed some of the local people's concepts. Whether it is children or adults, as long as you take a photo with them, they will skillfully ask for tips. It is hard to believe that this simple folk custom is combined with the money and commercial atmosphere of the outside world.

By summer |

First we went to the museum, then wandered along the path. In this village, if you want to take a photo with the locals, you will be charged 10 yuan. We watched performances, sickle shaving, collective farewell gunshots, etc. It took about 3 hours to finish the tour. If you feed a dog, it will follow you for a long distance and wait for you to continue feeding it.

By Unfinished Summer |

The tourist bus connecting the tourist service center and the village gate can open its windows, and the wind blows in from the window. Take a deep breath, and it will be refreshing. The green trees outside the window bring a coolness to the air and a smell that can only be smelled when there are many green plants...

On the narrow streets, there are all kinds of stalls, all managed by ladies in traditional costumes. Compared with other scenic spots, Basha is less commercialized. To me, it is like a world in another dimension. It is like Tao Yuanming's Peach Blossom Spring, where people live and work in peace and contentment, unknown to outsiders.

Staying in Basha Miao Village for one night really made me feel its primitiveness, because at night, cats would jump up and down on the beams of your room. I don’t know if this phenomenon is only found in Guanjing Inn, or if all the inns and hotels here are like this...

By Three six degrees |

A few shops have been built on the outskirts of the Miao village to facilitate local villagers and travelers. With cars and people coming and going, this is the busiest place in the village.

Inside the village, you can see the most authentic Miao village. The slate-paved road is covered with chicken shit; adults and children are contented; women seem to be playing and washing their hair together outside; old men lead old cows, almost occupying the entire path, and local dogs follow them, as if to feel the majesty of the cows; idle old people sit together and talk about their feelings, holding their big pipes in their hands.

By Peanuts and longan meat |

There were so few tourists... so few that we thought there were only six of us in the entire scenic area...

The single charge is high... Compared with Zhaoxing Dong Village, you know why Zhaoxing Dong Village is conscientious... And the ticket office of the scenic spot is also a long way from the village... If you don't take it, you have to go by yourself. The last bus is at 17:30... You can't play more...

I missed the welcoming ceremony at 3 o'clock, so I went to catch the performance at 3:30. It was a very small performance venue, and the actors were composed of local residents themselves (it is said that they came to perform after finishing their work at home, so they were relatively simple and organized their own training).

But the Gunners tribe really has guns... homemade earthen guns ~ and there is a gun salute at the end ~ all their props are real and can be used, and the reed pipe can also be blown ~

After watching the show, I strolled around the village. It was harvest season and there were rice drying racks all over the roadside.

There are really a lot of dogs in the village! But they are not fierce and very friendly~

The tourist service center of the scenic spot is very modern. This round gate is enough for the three girls to play for a long time.

A Miao village where you can carry a gun. It's not too big and not primitive. I thought it would be very primitive, but it's just a fenced-off tourist attraction.

By Visiting tea |

It is a very distinctive Miao village. The welcome ceremony was brief and warm, the folk performances were good, and the original things preserved in the village were also good. The Lusheng dance and sickle shaving are the characteristics of the last gun-carrying tribe in China.

By Meeyaa |

I heard that Basha Miao Village is "the last gunman tribe in the world", and the villagers here are allowed to carry muskets. Of course, there is no hunting with guns now, and the guns here are now only used for performances for tourists. Picking up fake guns in "PUBG" every day, I really want to touch the real gun. For me personally, Basha attracts me more than the gunmen, what attracts me more are the ancient traditions and legends. The Basha people here still maintain the ancient way of life and production from more than 2,000 years ago. Gunman culture is one of them, as well as sickle shaving, tree burial customs, tree worship... Everything attracts curious people. The weather is very hot, and it feels even hotter when I see the villagers in the village wearing ethnic costumes. There are many men with guns in the village. You can take pictures with them, and they may also invite you to take pictures with them, but be careful that there may be a charge. Girls in ethnic costumes are sitting at the gate of the village embroidering. In ancient times, embroidery should be a skill that every woman should have, but now there are very few who can embroider. I suddenly feel that these girls are amazing. In Basha, trees cannot be cut randomly. All trees used for construction here are specially planted for construction, which are separate from the trees in the village. Every tree here is well protected. Cutting down trees will offend the tree god, and cutting down trees will also violate the village rules and will be severely punished. This is why the entire Basha Miao Village is lush and green. I once read about the tradition of shaving with a sickle in a book about Guizhou, but I didn't expect it to be real. Basha is surrounded by mountains, with towering ancient trees, full of primitive simplicity and tranquility. Apart from its own unique culture, the scenery is also beautiful, especially under the blue sky and white clouds, which is superb. I especially like the grain drying rack under the village, and each grain looks very beautiful in the sun.

By cici |

There are few people in the village, you can walk around the village, and then enjoy the wonderful performance of Basha Miao Village.

They use sickles to shave their heads, which looks a bit scary, but it is said that all men in the village shave their heads in this way, so it is not surprising.

By Riddle💤 |

After buying the tickets, I followed the sightseeing bus to the gate of Basha Miao Village, just in time to catch their welcoming performance. The Basha men were dressed very coolly, with a cool Basha headband with a coarse cloth on top, and a navy blue Basha ethnic costume with bright colors. Each of them wore a sickle and a gourd around their waists, and carried a gun on their shoulders. It was just a word of cool! They stood in a row in front of the village, played the reed pipe and danced, and finally fired guns together to welcome the guests.

By Rabbit who hates eggplant |

In my opinion, this is a very mysterious village. When young people become adults, they will use sickles to shave their heads. Usually, they wear self-woven collarless right-open cardigans with copper buttons, blue cloth shirts, straight-legged trousers, and blue cloth slings. They always carry swords on their waists and muskets on their shoulders. They go hunting in the mountains and fishing in the rivers. The bun is called "Hugun" in Basha Miao language. It is the most important gender symbol in men's attire - most of the hair around the male head is shaved off, leaving only the middle part of the hair in a bun, and this hairstyle is kept for life.

By Nowhere to Stay |

Since I came to Congjiang, there is no reason not to go to Basha. The name of "Gunman Tribe" aroused my great interest.

Basha is not big. The village is hidden on the hillside of a mountain and surrounded by dense forests. If there is no village gate in front of it, no one would think that there is a village inside. The only way to get in is through the quiet forest. Basha people worship tree gods. They pay homage to ancient trees during the New Year and other festivals, and practice tree burial. Therefore, the tree of life is a symbol of life for Basha people.

When I came to Basha, the first thing I was interested in was guns. All Basha men, young and old, had muskets, and adult men also wore swords on their waists... I still remember the scene of hunters carrying guns to the mountains to hunt rabbits and pheasants when I was a child, so I felt somewhat familiar with it. And because of my personal preference, I really think that carrying guns is very domineering. Of course, they carried guns for life in the past, but now it is more for performance. Whether it is life or performance, it always attracts me;

The second thing that attracted me was the fabric of the clothes worn by the Basha men. The black silk reflected light. At first glance, I thought it was made of plastic. It would feel stuffy on a hot day, but when I touched it, it was indeed made of cloth. It was soft and they didn't feel hot. Maybe they were used to it. After all, it was made of their own cloth. It was amazing.

Thirdly, the Basha men and women love to play the Lusheng, sing and dance, and the men's hair buns are also very peculiar. Their unique sickle shaving is a unique skill. If you hadn't seen it in person during the performance, you wouldn't have believed that the sickle shaves the head so neatly. And this hairstyle that leaves only the top bun is called "Hugun", which means that all the hair around the head is shaved off, leaving only the top bun. It is said that Hugun is a bridge for Basha men to connect with their ancestors. Whoever cuts off the bun will break the connection with the ancestors and will not be blessed by the ancestors. Therefore, it has also formed a unique custom landscape.

TIPS:

1. Basha Miao Village full ticket is 80 yuan/person, and the shuttle bus is 20 yuan/person;

2. The Miao Village has three receptions and three performances every day, namely, reception at 9:00 a.m. and performance at 9:30 a.m., reception at 11:00 a.m. and performance at 11:30 a.m., and reception at 3:00 p.m. and performance at 3:30 p.m. Friends who want to go can go according to the time;

3. There are shuttle buses from Zhaoxing to Basha, priced at 30 yuan per person, and round trip 60 yuan; you can also charter a bus (negotiable price) or take a one-day tour of the mysterious Congjiang Basha (168 yuan per person)

The scenic area is not big, just wander around. Because it was too late, there was no performance of Sheng and gun. Just look at the beautiful scenery, the village and the sunset. The village is built on the mountain, and it is very tiring to go up and down. It is also very large, which takes time and is easy to get lost.

Basha is the last gun tribe in the world. They play reed pipes and fire guns to welcome tourists from afar. Their glutinous rice rolls are super delicious. I ate two in one go. They were so delicious that I forgot to take pictures. There is no barber shop in the whole village. They all shave with sickles. The technique is super skilled.

Although Basha Miao Village is small and developed relatively late, it is quite pristine. As a Miao village, I had higher expectations for it than Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village before I came. "The last gunman tribe in the world" is another attraction of it. The muskets worn by Basha people are specially allowed by the public security organs. They were used for hunting in the past, but now they are probably only used for taking pictures and performing.

The half-price ticket is 20 yuan, and the round-trip shuttle bus is 20 yuan. The shuttle bus pick-up point is 5 kilometers away from the entrance of the village. It is said that this is done to effectively isolate tourism and commercial services. It is indeed inside the village, and even the hotel cannot be found. After a while, I arrived at the entrance of the village at about 15:00. It was just the right time. At 3 o'clock every afternoon, there will be a welcoming ceremony at the entrance: Lusheng dance, gun firing performance, etc.

Walking along the village, I found that the village still retains its original living habits. All men are equipped with guns, and everyone is like a warrior. Now the villagers no longer hunt, and we can only experience the early life of the Basha people from the art performances... Basha is a village that retains the original atmosphere of life. The villagers keep their own way of life. Although the performances are commercialized, they can still show their ethnic customs and culture. It is a place worth visiting. If you arrive at the village just in time for the Lusheng Hall performance, it takes about 2-3 hours to complete: watching the performance and touring the village. Of course, if tourists want to stay here, the conditions feel a bit...

This Miao village has its own characteristics. It is not commercialized and looks poor. We did not go to some villages, which may be better. Please note that it is not 10 yuan per photo at the entrance of the village. When taking a photo with you, the number of people carrying guns is the number of 10 yuan. I saw a tourist mother taking a photo of her child. There were three villagers, a boy, a girl and a child next to her. After giving 10 yuan, the female villager said that the other two people should also give. As a result, they took a photo and the 30 yuan was gone.

By gzChangxing Island |

When we got to the village gate, we were told that we could only park in the parking lot, which charged 10 yuan per time, and we needed to take a shuttle bus to enter the village. Looking down at the whole village from the top of the mountain, we could see that the village was not very big.

Known as the last musketeer tribe, it is indeed worthy of its reputation. It still maintains an ancient and mysterious way of life. The upright, gun-loving Basha people wear pigtails, which gives people an unruly and heroic nature. Basha's sickle shaving, the unique and spectacular gun-firing, iron cannon welcoming ceremony, the magical tree burial custom, as well as the multiple worship of trees and the mysterious culture of "people and trees as one" are amazing. In particular, because they worship trees and regard trees as gods, they will never cut down a tree at random, so there are towering ancient trees around the village.

(Pencil) Why is it that only Basha is legally allowed to carry guns in China? It is said that because they live deep in the mountains, the Basha people still made a living by hunting about 20 years ago. When the government banned hunting and required the surrender of guns, it took into account the special situation of the Basha people and made an exception to allow them to keep their guns. In this way, Basha became "the last gunman tribe in China."

(Pencil) Basha Miao Village is not big overall, and half a day is enough for a visit. It is a relatively well-developed scenic spot. Although some hardware facilities are not enough, it is still no problem to meet the needs of some tourists who are not very demanding. Don't miss the special performances in the scenic spot. There are three performance times a day (9:00, 11:00, 15:00). After watching the performance, you can slowly walk around the village.

(Note) Ticket information: 80 yuan for adults, 10 yuan can be saved online. Includes performances in the scenic area.

(Note) Internal transportation: From the ticket hall to the entrance of the scenic area, you need to take the scenic area bus, which costs 20 yuan round trip. The time is from 8:00 to 18:00.

(Note) Self-driving parking: You need to park in the unified parking lot of the scenic area, which charges 10 yuan.

(Car) Road conditions: Although there are many mountain roads, the road conditions are very good

The overall feeling of Basha Miao Village is that the village still retains a relatively primitive atmosphere, it is shabby and less commercial, but the management style of the scenic spot monopoly has begun to take shape - private cars need to be charged (10 yuan) to park outside the village, the shuttle bus is 20 yuan per person, the scenic spot ticket is 40 yuan, and the show viewing is 40 yuan. These charges make Basha lack some intimacy compared to Tang'an Dong Village where I went yesterday. To be honest, if you don't study the culture of ethnic minorities much, you can't tell much difference between these villages except that there is a landmark building in each Dong village - the drum tower. The deepest impression of Basha is their men's national costumes and hairstyles - the clothes are self-woven and self-dyed, collarless, right-opened, copper-buttoned black cloth clothes. Because of the material of the fabric, they are shiny and well-cut, which feels very cool. In my opinion, the hairstyle is the ancestor of the popular "men's melon seed ponytail" hairstyle. It is said that this outfit has been passed down from the Chiyou era and is the oldest male hairstyle that can be seen in China so far.

Although Basha Miao Village is not big, it is not bad. I booked a room and walked around slowly.

By China-TravelNote users |

It is a relatively primitive and unique scenic spot, but it is recommended to spend 40 yuan to watch the performance. It is interesting to see the more primitive characteristics, not commercialized, and generally not recommended for accommodation

Basha Miao Village is not big and is well managed. There are three performances every day, at 9:00, 11:00 and 15:00. According to the performance time, there will be a guide outside the village gate to lead everyone to explain the tour. After watching the performance, you can move freely, and the whole process takes 2-3 hours.

Basha is located in the forest of Yueliang Mountain, less than 10 kilometers away from Congjiang. Now Basha is no longer hidden from the world. Not only roads have been built, but also large parking lots and grand ticket offices have been built. The parking lot is located 2-3 kilometers away from Basha Village. Everyone must change to local environmentally friendly cars to enter the village. On the one hand, it is environmentally friendly, and on the other hand, it is also a way to generate income.

Of course, the current Basha is no longer mysterious. Although their dressing habits still retain historical characteristics, this has become a commercial means and is deliberately preserved.

The villages in Lashan still retain the traditional characteristics of Miao villages, with pure wooden stilt houses, two floors, small green tiles, and fir bark roofs, densely scattered on several hillsides.

There are two performances every day at the Lusheng Square in Basha. The performance takes place at the Lusheng Square on the mountain and lasts about half an hour. The performance showcases the life characteristics of the local people. There is also a live sickle shaving performance. Of course, two live sons-in-law will be selected from the audience to complete a lively wedding banquet.

The scenic area is actually enclosed by the original Miao village, and the villagers live in the scenic area. The Zhaoxing Dong Village also follows this model.

Scenic spot ticket: 100 yuan, including performance ticket price

Scenic area shuttle bus: 10 yuan

Parking fee in scenic area: 10 yuan

Play time: 1.5 hours

As for the wine that was used to block the entrance when I saw it in the travel guide before coming here, there was no such thing in the scenic area. At that time, I imagined that the villagers of Basa Miao Village all had guns. If you didn't drink, they would shoot you in the chest with their small guns if they made you angry.

This time I happened to catch the performance at 4pm. The performers were the villagers in the Miao village, almost all men, women, young and old, showing the life and customs of the Basha people in an authentic way. There should be multiple performances in the scenic area a day, and the 4pm performance was the last one of the day. I didn't check the guide before, so I was lucky to run into it.

After the collective Lusheng dance performance, there was a Miao wedding program. The host asked the person who played the bride to pick a handsome guy from the audience to play the groom for interaction.

Miao weddings are blessed by a wizard, and the bride and groom need to toast the wizard.

Then the bride and groom gave everyone "blessing fruit"? ? ? I forgot what it was called, but of course we also had to send blessings to the newlyweds. Oh, by the way, when the groom came back three years later, he had to remember this "wife".

Next it was the turn of the men carrying guns to perform. The guns were actually muskets, and the sound they made when fired was quite loud.

Before the performance ended, the men fired guns collectively to show their respect.

The interactive hand-holding dance between the audience and the actors at the end

You can take a photo with the shooter for free. Of course, you can ask the shooter whether you can have a shot.

After the performance, you can wander around the Miao village freely. On the way to the village, the villagers talked about their income from the performances. For all the performances in a day, all the actors earn 5,000 yuan, less than 80 yuan per person. Children can perform for adults during holidays. The actors are not fixed, so it is relatively little compared to the ticket price.

The village is on a mountain, and you need to climb up the mountain. Cars can drive into the village. The village is not big, just to watch the performance. When we arrived, we just caught up with the singing, dancing and shooting performance at 2 pm. It is said that this is the last tribe with guns. The village feels relatively primitive, with many mosquitoes. Many children in the village are barefoot, and pig manure, cow manure and sheep manure can be seen everywhere on the ground (haha, suddenly remembered a line from a skit...)

Take a stroll along the narrow path in the village. Each house is stacked up according to the mountain. It feels like a climbing net. No matter how you walk, there are paths connecting one house to another. Go down the mountain along the path, one house after another, layer by layer, it seems that there is no end.

Ancient customs such as shaving with a sickle and carrying a musket are still preserved.

From the villagers, we learned that the stilt houses in front of the Basa Miao village were used to store grain, and when taking grain, a very thin "single-plank bridge" was used to go up and down the roadside. The balance required was something I couldn't match.

The women of the Basa ethnic group are good at embroidering and making clothes. Walking through the residential building, each one is busy working on a small piece of cloth.

The Basa people work from sunrise to sunset and only grow one crop of rice a year, with a yield of 500 kilograms. The crops are not abundant, so the villagers go to the city to work and the children go to school in the Basa Primary School.

If you want to learn more about Basha Miao Village, you can go to the museum in the village. Since my mother didn't want to watch the folk performance, we went to Libo instead (ps: I really regret it)

The last gunman tribe in the world, Tang'an drove for more than two hours, 7.5 kilometers away from Congjiang County, on the mountain. The villagers have become accustomed to our eyes and communicate with us very frankly. The girls are shy, the children are curious, the guns, knives, gourds (for wine), and reed pipes are a harmonious combination

A backward and quiet tribe. The road is noisy, but once you walk in, you will find that it is still primitive. I don’t know if such disturbance will affect their lives. Sometimes being isolated from the world is also a kind of peace.

By Thunbergia truncatula |

Guns used to be for hunting, but now they are for performance. They are all for living. The people of Basha now live mainly on agriculture and tourism. Most of the people in the village wearing ethnic costumes are "actors", and the villagers are no different from outsiders. You can see actors sitting in rows playing with their phones before the performance, women wearing short white dresses and 10cm high heels walking around the performance venue, and cool motorcycles under the old barn. I feel a little sad that all ethnic characteristics can only be preserved as art in the future. On second thought, I feel fortunate that at least they can be preserved as art.

By Praise for tranquility |

If guests come, the mighty Basha men play reed pipes and bamboo tubes in front of the village gate, and the Basha girls offer rice wine in ox horn cups. After a song, three iron guns are fired, and the muskets are fired into the sky, and the village gate is opened to welcome guests in. Then they walk into the village along the stone path in the forest and perform ethnic customs. Basha Miao Village is known as "the last gunman tribe under the sun."

Some of the Basa people are no longer simple and honest, and commercialization is becoming increasingly serious. If you want to experience the authentic ethnic customs, you need to go early.

When I was making a guide, I wanted to go to a magical place called Basha. They have very unique folk customs: shaving with sickles, firing guns to welcome guests, and they worship trees as life. I was inexplicably attracted by the introduction and pictures of this place, and my restless heart was beating wildly. But I found that the transportation to this tribe in the mountains was a bit troublesome, so I reported a more expensive pure play group on China-TravelNote, with the mentality of trying the water. Unexpectedly, it was a surprise. The good reviews are self-explanatory. Basha is a tribe deep in the mountains, with unique customs, its own culture, and a minority outside the secular world. Whether it is their skilled sickle shaving skills, firing guns to welcome guests, or their worship of trees as life, they are deeply shocked and unforgettable. If you don't go to Basha when you arrive in Southeast Guizhou, it will be a pity and regret to miss hundreds of millions.

The scenic spot's opening ceremony was at 9:00, and the performance was at 9:30, so I made an appointment with the master to set off at 8:00 in the morning. It took about half an hour to drive to the scenic spot's visitor center. Our first reaction was that the visitor center was super luxurious. The big rocks of Basha Miao Village stood out in the square, and a long corridor with a certain ethnic style was newly built behind it, which looked a bit like a park. The artistic decorations and advertising-style large characters inside and outside the square made people feel the impact of the tide of commercialization on ancient civilization.

The visitor center was empty with only a few tourists. After buying the ticket, you had to take the scenic area's eco-friendly bus and wait at the first gate in the scenic area for the 9 o'clock opening ceremony: blowing bamboo flutes and firing guns.

After entering the village, a special guide from the village led us to the square for performances, introducing some of Basha’s culture along the way. Then there was a performance that lasted about half an hour, including playing the sheng, dancing with a spear, Miao dance, weddings, and sickle shaving. The girls wore colorful Miao costumes, and the men wore uniform blue cloth clothes, straight-legged blue cloth pants, and tied up their hair in a bun, which gave people a sense of the Qin and Han dynasties. A few years ago, I first learned about the existence of Basha from a photo of a sickle shaving, which also made me start to understand this tribe that is known as the last gun-carrying tribe in the world.

The wooden buildings in the village are simple and quaint, and the surrounding trees are lush and green. But when you walk into the village where locals live, you feel that the village is a bit empty and shabby.

Before I came to Basa, I always felt that it was very primitive, but when I stepped into it, I found that it was not the case. Apart from the young men and women performing in the village, there were only old people and children. It was said that the young people had gone out to work. What made me feel more commercial were the old people and even the very young children. If you point the camera at them to take pictures, they will ask for money.

The only tribe in the country that is allowed to carry guns, the villagers live a primitive life and it is worth exploring!

The first thing to say about entering Basa is the mountain road. If you don’t have good driving skills, you’d better not choose to drive at night. There are many landslides in summer.

It is worth it to see the beautiful terraced fields in Basha Miao Village.

The terraced fields have different beauty in different seasons. I finally understand why it is called Colorful Guizhou.

The last gunman tribe in China, and the only tribe that legally holds guns! This Miao village is full of mystery! Shaving with sickles, unique marriages, husbands delivering babies, tree burial beliefs... all kinds of curiosity made me unable to stop. After passing the Lusheng Hall, the village exudes the pure Miao flavor everywhere. The old Miao village built without a single nail can be seen everywhere. The old people gathered to chat, with their left buns piled high, wearing white skirts that symbolize marriage, washing clothes with primitive wooden sticks, and twisting their legs with their hands. The enthusiastic Miao elders invited us to drink the sweet mountain spring water and moved a long bench for us to rest... Strong Miao love! The language is not understood, and there are all kinds of gestures. I don’t know how much they can understand, and how much we can guess? Of course, all this is free. The ancient villages hidden under the dense bamboo forest seem to be endless, and the small roads leading in all directions make us wonder where to go! In order to catch the performance at 3pm, the safest way is to return the same way. There are three performances every day. After the gun is fired to welcome the guests, the performance officially begins. The focus is on the content and culture.

In Basha, every time a child is born, his parents will plant a tree as the child's "tree of life" to accompany the child as he grows up; during festivals or when the child is unwell, his father will take the child to the lotus tree to worship, or "call the soul" or "pick up the soul", praying for the tree god to bless health; this ends after the completion of the human ceremony. If the child dies, the family will cut down the tree to bury the deceased, and then plant a new sapling on the grave to indicate that life continues in another form, which is called tree burial. In their concept, everything comes from nature and everything returns to nature! There is not a single barber shop in the whole village. Young and old men in the fields shave each other's heads with sickles, and this custom is still preserved today.

Basha is composed of 5 Miao villages. It takes a long way from the tourist center to the center of the scenic area. Basha Village is built layer by layer along the mountain. It is ancient and simple. It is often difficult to tell the direction in the village. What you can see are green mountains and green waters, layers of terraces, wooden buildings, and black tiles covered with moss.

Basa is still worth a visit. Although some say that they have begun to change and have a stronger commercial atmosphere, I think what is interesting and worth savoring is the ancient village itself.

By Miss Raindrop |

When we first arrived at the entrance of the scenic spot, there were really few tourists. It felt like the whole place was reserved for fun, which gave us the opportunity to take as many photos as we wanted. The dining tables in the village are very interesting. A semicircular table is enough for three or two people to eat. If six or seven people want to get together, two tables can be put together to form a concentric circle.

Perhaps for practical reasons, the local residents' daily clothing is mainly black, not as bright as imagined. The night view of Zhaoxing Dong Village is like a dream, and you can see the drum towers of Ren, Yi, Li, Zhi and Xin from afar.

The Basa Miao tribe is located in five villages in the vast forest at the foot of Moon Mountain, 6 kilometers south of Congjiang County, Guizhou Province. It still retains ancient living customs such as wearing muskets (with special approval from the public security organs), shaving with sickles, and worshiping ancient trees. It is known as "the last gunman tribe under the sun."

Basha Miao Village is the last gunman tribe in the world (Bia is pronounced "bia" here). Before coming here, I knew that the people here are no longer as simple as they used to be, even though they still look primitive from the outside. Presumably, this kind of dress is just to please tourists!

By Without you |

The last stop of Guizhou trip is Basha Miao Village. It is a pure Miao village with more than 300 households. Because of its remote location, it still retains an ancient and primitive lifestyle. Men's clothes are basically dyed by themselves, and many men and children still walk barefoot. Women are hardworking and simple. On the road, I met a pregnant woman who went to the mountains to work. It is also the last gun-carrying tribe in China. Men carry knives in addition to guns. Before I went there, I thought the people here must be very barbaric, and the guns and knives were too scary. In fact, the people here are simple and kind, and they can sing and dance well. There are three performances here every day. The first one is at 9:30, the second one is at 11:30, and the third one is at 15 o'clock. It costs 40 yuan to watch the performance. If you want to shoot a gun, it costs 20 yuan each time. I didn't shoot because I was afraid. It's not expensive to live here and it's very clean. The viewing room is 130 yuan and very clean. I don't know if there will be any changes during the peak season. It is said that there have been no fighting or thefts here for many years. There is no barber shop in the village. People shave their heads with sickles. The picture above is a tourist who goes to experience a Basha haircut, which is fast and handsome. The fragrant pork, pickled cabbage and glutinous rice here are really delicious and worth recommending. 10 yuan a portion. The most knowledgeable thing today is Basha Horn Art. I always thought that the ox horn comb must be a lie and must be made of plastic. As a result, the boss said that everything in my house is made by hand. He was afraid that I would not believe it, so he picked up a ox horn and started to polish it. I was afraid that he would deceive me, so I watched and took pictures to witness it. After more than ten minutes, an ugly ox horn really became smooth and delicate. At this time, I really believed it, and I felt a little embarrassed about my behavior just now, so I patiently looked at the boss's shop. It turned out that he was a craftsman. In addition to making ox horn combs, he also made root carvings. He often participated in competitions and could make some private customized things. People who like wine naturally can't help but order a wine cup and a massage stick... Those who want to buy a private customization of an ox horn comb are worth recommending. As for my overall impression of Basha, it is a place worth staying for two days. It is not very commercialized, comfortable, and the people are kind. They eat at their doorsteps and will sincerely invite you to eat with them when they see tourists coming. The most important thing when traveling is to be happy, relax, and go on a trip at any time!

I got off at Congjiang High-speed Railway Station and took a bus to Congjiang County. After half an hour of drowsiness, I got off at the terminal. I stopped a van on the roadside and drove to Basha Miao Village.

Basha is 8 kilometers away from Congjiang County. You will see the gate of Basha village at the end of the mountain after a sharp turn. There is a quiet path leading directly to the village, which is called the Ancient Forest for Protecting the Village. On the roadside are towering ancient trees worshipped as gods by the people of Basha, forming a small green forest.

Walking along the stone road, passing through various old trees covered with vines and houses with moss on the roof, the view ahead suddenly opened up and we came to the small square of Basha, where it was written, "Basha, the last musketeer tribe". The village is very quaint, with lush trees, simple old houses, and working villagers. Time seems to have slowed down here. The performance starts at 11 o'clock in the ancient Lusheng Hall on the top of the mountain.

The most anticipated performance is sickle shaving. This ancient haircutting method is only for the convenience of Basha people to shave each other's heads while working in the fields. With a sharp sickle, a standard "household stick" is completed in a few minutes. At the end of the performance, the Basha men fired guns to send their blessings.

The ticket price is 10 yuan from Zhaoxing High-speed Railway Station to Congjiang County. Get off at the bridge head in Congjiang County, cross the bridge and turn left, you can take a local car up, 5-10 yuan or take a taxi, about 38-48 yuan, you can bargain with the driver. You can also take a motorcycle, also 10 yuan. We took a local car up, and the local car will not be stopped, and you can go in directly without buying tickets (but if you want to watch the performance, you will have to check your ticket, if you want to watch the performance, it is better to buy a ticket). Other cars can only drive to the ticket office, buy tickets and then take the shuttle bus to the village. Basha Village is still very large.

This is a very distinctive Miao village, where the folk customs are worth experiencing. The small square at the entrance of the village is where important events are held in the village.

I was woken up by the sound of chickens and dogs in the morning. I opened the window and saw the rolling clouds and mist on the opposite mountain, which was like a fairyland. The air was surprisingly fresh. I checked the PM2.5 value in Congjiang County at that time and it was 20! The village has a very good ecology, with green everywhere, Miao wooden buildings and Miao girls wearing colorful clothes. It is so beautiful.

I ate the legendary roasted fragrant pig with flower rice. The roasted meat was so delicious! Each portion costs 10 yuan. The rice is glutinous rice. A bowl of flower rice is served with a small plate of local specialty pickled cabbage, plus this piece of roasted fragrant pig that weighs at least 2 taels. The meat is fat but not greasy! The pigs here are not fed with feed. If you eat one portion in the morning, you won't be hungry at noon!

Sitting in the villagers' homes, I was very relaxed and happy. I was curious about everything. The mountain people were also very simple and hospitable! Listening to the villagers talk about the interesting stories in the village, I got to know the mysterious Basha most directly, which was very novel.

By Sister Man |

It is said to be the last remaining gunman tribe in China. Children learn to use guns at a very young age, but it is the safest village where no incidents have ever occurred. It has a mysterious color, but it may leave a bad impression in the eyes of many tourists, that is, it is more commercialized. If you take a photo with them or take a photo of them, you will be chased for money. In addition to watching performances, there seems to be not much to visit in the village. In the real village, except for meeting some elderly people, there is not much to visit, but it is still possible to understand the mysterious Basha culture.

The ticket for Basha is 80 yuan, but the half-price ticket is 60 yuan. In the end, I thought that the ticket may be divided into two parts, one is 40 yuan for the entrance ticket and 40 yuan for the performance, and the half-price ticket is only for one of them. The performance ticket is not half-price. However, it is clearly required to buy all the tickets when purchasing, which is unreasonable.

There is a fixed time to enter Basha Miao Village. When the time comes, there will be a welcoming ceremony with bamboo flute blowing, gun firing and other ceremonies. When entering the village, there will be a special guide in the village to lead you into the village, introduce some of the culture of Basha along the way, and introduce the performances to be seen in the two performance venues. The performance in the square will last for about an hour, with playing the flute, dancing with guns, sickle shaving and so on.

Apart from joining the performance team, most of the young people probably went out to work. Apart from a few elderly people, there were no other people in the village. There were only empty wooden houses and rice hanging on high racks to dry.

It was already past four in the afternoon when we arrived at Basha Miao Village. Since our path went around the mountain behind the Miao Village, we saved the ticket fee. However, the performance was over. Basha is known as the last gun-carrying tribe in China, and the Lusheng field in Basha is where these gunmen usually perform. In fact, it is some singing and dancing performances, combined with elements such as local gunmen and sickle shaving. I personally am not very interested in this. But since the route passes nearby, I will come and check in.

Basha Miao Village is not very big, and there is nothing special about it. I think the only selling point here is the guns, right?

By xanp2 |

Commercialization today is too uncomfortable.

By Alone with the wind |

We arrived at Bazaar early. There was no one selling tickets at the gate and no cars in the parking lot. Most of the people on the street were local elderly people cleaning. So we drove straight in and came to a place that looked like the core square. We locked the car on the side of the road and got out for a stroll.

There is no entrance fee and no guided tour.

We ate a bowl of rice noodles in front of a small restaurant with smoke coming out of the kitchen and then wandered around. After all, it was a tourist area, and a bowl of very ordinary rice noodles (I don't like rice noodles) cost 10 yuan.

Many households in the village have a plaque on their walls with the words "Family Rules of the * Family" written on it. I don't know if this has become a show in the tourist area, or if it is a government-advocated civilized manner or a tradition passed down from ancient times.

There are quite a few inns in the Miao Village, but the conditions are not very good and the prices are not very low. The most important thing is that in this off-season, whether they will open in the middle of the night is a problem.

There are no house numbers or floors or levels of residents in the Miao village.

I wonder what they would say if they reported their own home address? And the house types in the Miao village are almost the same, and there is no reference next door? !

The whole village is built in layers, or in other words, in layers, in accordance with the terrain. When I was wandering around the village, I thought I had walked into a dead end or a Miao family several times, but when I got there, I found that there must be a path leading out!

Gunfire show:

Regardless of gender, age or status, everyone performed with great devotion and put in their best efforts!

After a while, they interacted with the audience, picked out a young man to play the role of the groom, performed some rituals, toasted and blessed, etc. Those young men who didn't have to go on stage stood in the back row and actually played the role of "harmony". Thumbs up!

The Miao boys each held a gun and performed a hunting scene in the forest, which was vivid with the music; although they were not professional actors, their expressions were very vivid. At the end of the song and dance performance, everyone held their guns and fired them into the sky!

That was quite a noise!

It’s so enjoyable.

At the beginning, the host wanted to find someone from the audience to volunteer, but no one dared to be shaved on the head with a sickle. In fact, this was just a fake, and the actors came on stage immediately.

There are probably not many old men who shave people’s heads in the village anymore. The guy who was being shaved was probably a professional shaving performer, so his hair is not very long, right?

Basha Miao Village is very close to Congjiang County, but a large number of primitive dwellings are preserved in the village. The last gun-carrying tribe, which is the most publicized, is worth seeing. There will be scheduled performances at 9 am and 3 pm to welcome guests to the tribe. There will be folk performances, singing and dancing, wedding customs, and clear water.

By Anti-entropy increaser |

Because I think Basha Miao Village is relatively small, two or three hours is enough.

I took a motorcycle taxi there, which cost 10 yuan per person and took me directly to the entrance of the scenic area, free of the 50 yuan entrance fee. The entrance fee was charged at that time, and I could not drive in directly if I took a taxi.

Take note: It is most convenient to go from Congjiang County to Basha by calling a motorcycle taxi on the roadside. It will take you directly to the performance venue, and then you can enjoy the ride on your own.

Basha Miao Village is the last gun tribe. Every household has a gun, even children. It is a very primitive village and worth a visit. But before taking pictures, you should ask if there is a charge. Most of them charge 10 yuan. It depends on the individual.

You can see the panoramic view of the village on the second floor of the museum

The only feature of Basha Miao Village is that it is the last musketeer tribe in China. Every man in the village has a knife hanging on his waist and a musket. There are about 500 households in the village, and the wooden stilt houses show the Miao style everywhere. Every woman in the village can embroider as a decoration on her clothes, which is very beautiful. You can go to the village to feel the tranquility and comfort.
