Sidonggou Scenic Area is another waterfall scenic area in Chishui, and it also takes a long walk to get there.



The river in the scenic area flows down from the mountain, with four waterfalls, so it is called Sidonggou. There are Shuiliandong Waterfall, Yueliangtan Waterfall, Feiwaya Waterfall and Bailongtan Waterfall.



Bailongtan Waterfall is the largest waterfall in the Sidonggou Waterfall Group. It is 60 meters high and 23 meters wide.

I was very excited to stand on the stone in front of the waterfall and pose. However, compared with the boss-level Chishui Waterfall, the waterfall in Sidonggou is still a little worse. Only then did I understand why the official focus of the "Chishui Danxia" was to choose those three attractions instead of Sidonggou and Hongshiye Valley. There is indeed a reason.

Later, when I stayed at the inn, the locals told me that the entertainment activities in Sidonggou had been stopped. There were many performances. For example, in the second cave, there were semi-professional people jumping high to perform diving, and tourists were allowed to go swimming. The place was very lively in the summer. It seems that I came at the wrong season. A few years ago, Sidonggou actually had a night show. There were various performances in front of the waterfall at night. It was a famous nightlife attraction in Chishui. But the night show was still not enough to cover the expenses, so it was stopped after all.

If you have time, then go to Sidonggou as a prelude to enjoying the Chishui Waterfall later; if you are in a hurry, the Sidonggou attraction is actually dispensable.

If Chishui Waterfall is the main course, then Sidonggou can only be regarded as an appetizer. It is somewhat tasteless and a pity to throw away.

People in Chishui call waterfalls "dongs". As the name suggests, Sidonggou means four waterfalls. However, after seeing the majestic Chishui Waterfall, the waterfalls here seem a bit childish. Whether it is the water volume, width, or drop, they cannot be ranked.

Sidonggou was originally named Minxi. It is called Tong because of the four-level waterfalls in the stream and the cave behind the waterfalls. Later, it was commonly called Sidonggou. It is located in the Minxi River Valley of Datong River, 17 kilometers away from the urban area of Chishui. It is mainly composed of four-level waterfalls and three-dimensional ecological landscapes such as red cliffs, bamboo forests, spinulosa, flowing water, bitan, and mudflats throughout the Minxi River Basin. There are nearby Duxian Bridge, Danxia landform wonders of Shiding Mountain, provincial cultural relics Zheng's Filial Piety Archway, Liangcha River scenery, Huaping Waterfall, Dashuigou Waterfall and other attractions. In the spring and summer rainy seasons, more than 20 waterfalls of various shapes can often be seen falling from the mountains on both sides in the scenic area, which is quite spectacular. Sidonggou Scenic Area is an important part of Chishui National Key Scenic Spot. It is located in Datong Town, Chishui City, Guizhou Province, 15 kilometers away from the urban area. The scenic area is mainly composed of four-level waterfalls arranged at roughly equal distances in a mountain stream of about four kilometers in Sidonggou. Sidonggou Waterfall is only 15 kilometers away from the urban area of Chishui, located in Datong Town, Chishui City. There are four waterfalls in the scenic area. In the past, Chishui people called waterfalls "dong", so it is called Sidonggou Waterfall.

The first cave - Water Curtain Cave Waterfall: 37 meters wide and 31 meters high. What is worth seeing is that there is a natural stone cave behind the waterfall. The waterfall covers the stone cave like a crystal curtain, so it is called "Water Curtain Cave". Taking pictures from the stone cave behind the waterfall is another kind of vision, which is very interesting.

The second cave - Moon Pool Waterfall: 42 meters wide and 10 meters high. The stone cliff of the waterfall looks like a half moon with silver light flowing, and the deep pool under the waterfall looks like a round full moon.

The third cave - Feiwa Cliff Waterfall: 43 meters wide and 26 meters high, it is divided into two by a stone frog. There is a huge stone upstream that looks like a giant elephant; in front of the "elephant" there is a tadpole-shaped stone beach in the lake, which looks like a swimming snake; in front of the "snake" is a stone frog. It seems that at the moment when the "stone frog" is about to jump off the waterfall, the "snake" bites the "stone frog"'s hind leg, and the "snake"'s tail is stepped on by the elephant that is bathing in the river.

The fourth cave - Bailongtan Waterfall: It is the largest waterfall in the Sidonggou waterfall group. It is 60 meters high and 23 meters wide. The sound of the waterfall is like thunder, and the rain and fog are everywhere. The silver-white waterfall flows straight down and forms a line with the stone, just like a white dragon, so it is called Bailongtan Waterfall. There is a huge stone under the waterfall that looks like a giant shoe. Legend has it that in ancient times, there was often a golden duck playing in the water in Bailongtan under the waterfall. When an immortal saw it, he flew to catch the golden duck and accidentally left a shoe behind, which turned into a stone shoe over time.

The winding path leads to a secluded place, where the Zen room is surrounded by flowers and trees. This is the first poem that comes to mind when you get there. The vegetation is well protected, and moss can be seen everywhere, which is very comfortable. The small waterfall at the innermost part is very beautiful. Although it is not as magnificent as the big waterfall, it is still worth seeing. It is more delicate than the big waterfall scenic area.

The waterfalls are all good. The last waterfall is quite high. It is a combination of taking a battery car and walking.

There are four waterfalls in one ravine, with different shapes and small scales. They don't have much special features when viewed separately. What's valuable is that they are natural, with little human interference and no commercial facilities. When I went there, there were probably less than 10 tourists in the whole ravine.

Sidonggou can be called an appetizer before viewing the Chishui Waterfall. We chose to walk there and take a battery car on the way back, stopping and starting, and it took about 4 and a half hours. This place is roughly similar to the Huangsangqu Valley in Suining, my hometown. The road is built along the stream and goes up along the stream, but the mountains, water colors, and vegetation are different. Compared with Sidonggou, Huangsang is more beautiful and hidden in the boudoir. We set off early, and the heat has not yet entered the dense forest. The journey is brisk. Near noon, the sun is shining, and we just trek to the end. The broad mountain stream and springs, flying beads and jade, rushing in our faces, swept away the fatigue. This trip to Sidonggou focuses on Alsophila spinulosa, which is the only woody fern found in the world. It is listed as an endangered plant under first-class protection by many countries and is known as a "living fossil." The freely growing Alsophila spinulosa communities are hidden in clusters deep in the mountains. They are tall, verdant, graceful and elegant. The myth of the eternal youth of nature paints a freehand painting on the Danxia rock walls.

The ticket policy here seems petty. All 5A attractions in Guizhou Province are free of charge for those above 60, and free of charge for tour guides. Here, you can bring a group for free, and those above 60 from the province are free of charge, and those from other provinces are half price. I asked the ticket seller, why is Guizhou's policy like this and you are not, she said Guizhou is Guizhou, so we have the policy like this, well, you are the Golden Triangle, awesome!

The scenery of Sidonggou is very good. There are no trees on the mountain, only bamboo forests. For us northerners, this is enough. With four waterfalls of different postures, this attraction is highly rated. It is about 6 kilometers round trip. It is recommended to take a one-way sightseeing bus. The first cave waterfall has a water curtain cave, which makes up for the regret of Shizhang Cave. The key point is that there is no one and no need to queue. The water curtain cave is wider and you can stay for a long time. It is worth the 85 yuan ticket.

The Sidonggou scenic area consists of four waterfalls of different sizes. The light car takes tourists directly to Sandonggou, and it takes about 2 kilometers to walk from Sandonggou to Sidonggou. Because my father's legs are not good, we gave up going to Sidonggou. But even if my father had no problem, we would not want to go. Because it's too hot. But to be honest, the scenery there is still very good.

We did walk along the stream all the way, which was very pleasant. The road opposite was the road for the shuttle bus. I took the plank road, where there were many streams. This place is suitable for filming Journey to the West. There are 4 waterfalls, and I will focus on the first and fourth. Why? There is really nothing to see in 2.3, especially the second one is too ordinary. The Shuo Waterfall is barely there. The first one gave me the feeling of childhood memories. Basically, this place can be walked back and forth in 4.5 hours. On the way back, you can also go to Datong Ancient Town. It is said that it is also original. Since you are here, right? This way, the day is over and you are not tired. You can go to Foguangyan and Bing'an Ancient Town on the second day. If you want to go to Shizhang Cave, then it will be the third day... Well... For northerners, seeing these waterfalls is always a joy.

It takes about 40 minutes from the city to the scenic area. As soon as I entered, it seemed like Tao Yuanming's paradise. Although there were no chickens, dogs, or farmers' houses, there were birds singing, flowers blooming, streams flowing, and mossy stone slabs.

The biggest discovery this time is that the air in the scenic area is really good. Walking around, the water is clear and the bamboo is green. The "Four Caves Wonderland" at the entrance of Sidonggou Scenic Area perfectly represents the scenic area. As the name suggests, there are four caves. There are 4 waterfalls in the scenic area. It was very suitable for hiking. It was the most relaxing place for us to visit in Chishui.

There are two roads in Sidonggou, one is the tourist plank road and the other is the sightseeing road. It is recommended that people with time and endurance should hike. Our tour route is as follows: go up the mountain along the tourist plank road on the left, and go down the opposite road, so that you can go around the whole scenic area. Sidonggou is 4 kilometers one way and 8 kilometers round trip. The stairs are very gentle and do not require much physical strength.

I did some research before. If I go to Sidonggou, it would be meaningless to take the electric car back and forth. Sidonggou has a ditch in the middle, and four waterfalls from low to high. The biggest sigh was that I couldn't help but think of playing in the water in the Xiaoqikong River in Libo. This is also a great place to escape the heat and play in the water in summer.

A Water Curtain Cave. To be honest, we went there for the bamboo raft on the upper level of the A Water Curtain Cave. Otherwise, it would have been too late. If it weren't for the bamboo raft, I really don't know if I would have visited this place.

The next day, we took a rural bus to Sidonggou Scenic Area. It was drizzling when we arrived. We bought a combined ticket for five scenic spots at the ticket office for 260 yuan per person (which means you can choose any five of the six scenic spots: Foguangyan, Big Waterfall, Sidonggou, Bamboo Sea, Alsophila Scenic Area and Yanziyan Scenic Area).

It was the off-season when we came so there were not many people in the scenic area. Sidonggou is a river that flows down the mountain with four waterfalls. We walked upstream along the path hidden in the bamboo forest. Along the way, we could see the muddy yellow-red color of the river flowing on the Danxia landform among the green bamboo forest. The air was very humid in the drizzle, and it was comfortable to breathe freely. The Water Curtain Cave Waterfall, Moon Pond Waterfall, Flying Frog Cliff Waterfall and Bailongtan Waterfall each had its own characteristics.

What I remember most is the Flying Frog Cliff. There is a big rock in the middle of the top of the waterfall, shaped like a frog with half of its body sticking out, dividing the waterfall into two parts. Everything is wet along the path, the ground, grass, bamboo, stones, trees, moss everywhere, even the vines wrapped around the trees are covered with green moss, so you have to be extra careful when walking. I accidentally fell twice in the subsequent waterfall scenic area.

The last Bailongtan Waterfall is the last waterfall here and the largest waterfall in Sidonggou. When we arrived, it was raining even harder and there was a gust of wind. We stood on the road in front of the waterfall and took a quick look before retreating to a pavilion behind to take shelter from the rain. Then we returned along the path on the other side of the river. As the rain kept falling, we took a tour bus at the Erdong to return to the entrance of the scenic area. It might be that there was too much water vapor near the waterfall, so the rain was also quite heavy. When we left the scenic area, the rain turned into drizzle again. Then we found a taxi and went straight to the Big Waterfall Scenic Area. As we were not on the same route and had to return to Chishui and then take another route, it took more than an hour to arrive.

The scenic area has towering ancient trees, lush vegetation and beautiful environment, making it a great place to escape the summer heat and relax.

The sightseeing bus took us directly to the middle section of Sidonggou. We could not see the first and second caves from the bus, and could only go straight up to see the third and fourth caves.

The scenery on both sides is particularly beautiful, with bamboo forests like the sea and small waterfalls on the mountainside. They are looming in the green and the air is fragrant, making people want to take a deep breath. The first big waterfall I saw was Feiwa Waterfall, which is actually the third waterfall. The waterfall is divided into two by a stone. Take a closer look, hey, isn't that the big mouth of a frog? No wonder it is named this. Continue walking up for a long time, and you can see the last waterfall-Bailongtan Waterfall, which is the largest waterfall in the Sidonggou Waterfall Group. From a distance, the sound of the waterfall is already thunderous and thrilling. Through the leaves, you can see its magnificent momentum. Approaching the waterfall, the mist is lingering, the stars are dotted, the silver beads splash jade, the silver light is flashing, and it mists my glasses.

It was my first time to Sidonggou, which is only about 20 kilometers away from the urban area. As we entered the scenic area, three Miao brothers and sisters greeted us with smiles and played the reed pipe cheerfully. When they handed us their business cards, we realized that they were salesmen of a farm stay. It seems that ethnic minorities are also keeping up with the times.

To be honest, the scenery of Sidonggou seems too familiar to Chongqing people. It is similar to some scenic spots in Chongqing, with green mountains and clear waters. But for visitors from the north, it makes them ecstatic, because the mountain streams and lush bamboo forests are full of green, which makes them excited, just like the first time we saw the birch forest in Greater Khingan Range. We climbed up the mountain and saw waterfalls of different sizes. The Moon Pool Waterfall is small and beautiful. The beautiful woman in red who was traveling with us walked among them, attracting passers-by to stop and take pictures. The Flying Frog Cliff Waterfall is a double waterfall. Just after taking a few pictures, a heavy rain came unexpectedly. We were afraid to avoid it, so we put away our cameras and left.

Sidonggou is just as its name suggests, with one cave and one waterfall. Walking in the valley, you will see water flowing beside you, and bamboos or strange trees on both sides. Clusters of bamboos grow along the mountain, and some fall into the stream, forming a garden cave with a different world. Walking up and down the slope slowly, the road is paved with Chishui Danxia rocks. Walking on the red carpet, you will see graceful green bamboos and white waterfalls. It is really a paradise on earth.

Compared with the unrestrained passion of Chishui Waterfall, Sidonggou is more delicate like a beautiful girl from a small family, with more layered beauty and more delicate and graceful. Who would have known that the majestic Water Curtain Cave was hidden behind the quiet Sidonggou at that time? The children were amazed by nature again.

Very exquisite scenic area, a total of four waterfalls, walking is not too tiring. The last and first waterfalls are quite spectacular. If you take a car, get off before the third waterfall, and you need to walk the rest of the way. On the way back, you will stop in front of the first and second waterfalls to visit. I heard it's very similar to Shunan Bamboo Sea, but different. I haven't been to Shunan Bamboo Sea, but it's not bad. Because I didn't take the sightseeing bus, it took three or four hours to walk from Cave 1 to Cave 3. It's suitable for summer vacation. Cave 1 should be the most popular. I didn't go to Cave 4 because I couldn't walk anymore. The natural scenery is good. It's all bamboo, cool.

The main attraction of Sidonggou is four waterfalls of different sizes and shapes. The third and fourth caves are the most beautiful. If you have enough time, you can walk along the bamboo path and slowly enjoy the view. It is really pleasant to see the green and streams everywhere.

Sidonggou has a beautiful environment and is fully qualified as the first stop to view waterfalls. The four waterfalls with different styles can be used as appetizers before going to the Chishui Waterfall. If you see these waterfalls and think they are beautiful and spectacular, then the Chishui Waterfall will definitely give you a greater sense of surprise.

After entering the scenic area, I felt that there were not too many tourists, probably because we came at noon. There are four caves in total (cave means waterfall), and the whole scenic area can be visited in about three or four hours.

Soon we arrived at the first cave, Shuiliandong Waterfall. I had never seen waterfalls before. The ones I saw occasionally were more like small streams hanging on the mountain...so this was the first time I saw a real waterfall. You can walk up the middle of the waterfall. When we were halfway there, we found a small rainbow. To be honest, I had never seen a rainbow before, so it was a surprise. After leaving Shuiliandong Waterfall, we continued to the second cave, Yueliangtan Waterfall. When we arrived at Yueliangtan Waterfall, it was much smaller than Shuiliandong Waterfall, not as eye-catching, and only a few meters high. We took a few glances and left.

After walking through the second cave, I was a little tired. I really couldn't stand the high temperature. Fortunately, there were some shops on the way from the second waterfall to the third waterfall, selling drinks and food, as well as tables and chairs for resting. So I bought a lot of drinks such as ice cream, mineral water, grapefruit tea and mung bean soup. At that time, I was so thirsty that I thought I could drink so much in one breath... I sat on the bench and felt alive.

After resting, we set out to the third cave, Feiwa Cliff Waterfall. To be honest, this waterfall is pretty ordinary. It is a protruding rock that looks like a frog crouching there, with waterfalls hanging down on both sides. That's it. We stayed there for two minutes and then left.

Going to the last hole, after the disappointment of the second and third holes, I hope that the last hole - Bailongtan Waterfall can give me some shock. After walking for a while, I saw Bailongtan. Although the water flow is not very large, it is very high. Compared with the first two, it is really eye-catching. We stayed here for a while. This waterfall should be the most beautiful of the four. Due to time constraints, we returned. By the way, there is a section of road here where you can wade in the water. The shoes I wore that day were not very convenient to take off and go into the water, so I could only watch the tourists playing in the water with envy.

After entering the scenic area, you will enter a vast sea of bamboo.

As we go along, we see lush green bamboos, lush greenery, gurgling mountain springs, and chirping insects.

The fairyland of Sidong at night is fascinating. What kind of scenery is waiting for us in Sidonggou after bidding farewell to the bright moon and welcoming the rising sun?

This trip to Sidonggou made me realize this deeply. Usually, when I read about Sidonggou, it was described as dignified and beautiful, with a more delicate and beautiful temperament. But what I saw today was magnificent and majestic, with raging waves crashing against the shore. However, despite this, I also saw its beautiful, quiet and peaceful side.

The color of the Chishui River in the Sidonggou section is particularly red, the same color as the rock wall of Foguangyan, or even darker, and it really lives up to its reputation. There is no cave in Sidonggou, why is it called this name? Because in the local area, cave means waterfall. First is the Water Curtain Cave, the waterfall is not high, but it is relatively wide. The key is that you can go inside the waterfall to play. Inside the waterfall, we saw a rainbow. Anyone who sees a rainbow will be very surprised, it is really a gift from God, it is really beautiful. Maybe the climax came a little early, Moon Bay and Flying Frog Waterfall seemed a little inferior. With the greatest expectation, I came to the last "cave", and it was really the finale. The waterfall is very high, and when you get close, the water mist hits your face, as if it is an eager hug. What are you still hesitating about? Of course, you should give Mother Nature a hug. The sound of the waterfall is very loud, but it feels very quiet.

The four scenic spots of Chishui are waterfalls, Danxia, Alsophila spinulosa, and bamboo sea. You can see them all in Sidonggou, and the third and fourth waterfalls are recommended.

The four small waterfalls are a bit far apart, but the dense vegetation can block most of the scorching sun, and the cool river breeze makes walking between them pleasant and refreshing...

But it is really cool to the fourth cave, which is good for summer vacation. But I personally feel that the ticket is expensive!

If you can't drive to the entrance of the scenic area by car, park at the parking lot of the ticket office and take the free shuttle bus to the gate of the scenic area. Sidonggou is relatively flat and you can walk in and out to take a sightseeing bus.

There were five of us in our group, and only Sister Liang and I needed to buy tickets, so we went directly to where to buy a three-scenic spot combo ticket online for 180, which is enough for visiting all three scenic spots.

There are no steep slopes along the way in Sidonggou, so it should be suitable for people of all ages to walk slowly.

Private cars are not allowed to enter the scenic area, and you must take a free sightseeing bus at the tourist reception center to the ticket gate. But if you want to eat at a nearby farmhouse, you can be brought in by a local and park your car directly near the ticket gate, which is more convenient.

The price of eating at the farm house is not expensive, three dishes and a soup are 129 yuan, and the taste is quite good. I wonder if you are hungry, haha!

I bought a combined ticket for the scenic spots, and I chose two of the six scenic spots for 150 yuan, which is more cost-effective than buying them separately.

There are four waterfalls in the scenic area, including Water Curtain Cave, Moon Pond, Flying Frog Cliff and White Dragon Pond, which is how the name Sidonggou came from.

It is recommended to walk into the scenic area and take the sightseeing bus out. The round-trip bus fare is 30 yuan, and the one-way fare is 20 yuan.

The sightseeing bus goes directly to Feiwa Cliff and does not stop at the first two waterfalls, so we chose to follow the flow of water, go up the stone steps, and enjoy being surrounded by mountains, green trees and clear water.

The Sidonggou scenic spot refers to the Sidonggou waterfall group in Datong, Chishui, which is known as: "a garden of ten thousand bamboos, a beautiful jade in a small family, a scenic spot without any flaws." "Dong" is a term left over from ancient Chinese. "Shuowen Jiezi" explains: "Dong means fast flow!" Because there are four waterfalls in the stream, it is commonly known as Sidonggou. The scenic spot is 17 kilometers away from Chishui City and 5 kilometers away from Datong Town.

There are sightseeing buses that can take you directly between Cave 2 and Cave 3. It can be regarded as a transit station where you can rest and eat. There are few people on weekdays and it is very quiet.

In general, holes 1 and 4 are the most scenic, while holes 2 and 3 are dispensable.

No matter which scenic spot you go to, they all look like they don't care whether you come or not, or even don't seem to be very happy to receive you. Well, maybe this is a manifestation of the simple folk customs.

Friends who love beauty, remember to bring high-factor sunscreen and parasols. It is really sunny when the weather is good, and it may rain at any time.

From bottom to top, the four waterfalls have their own merits. The first cave is the Water Curtain Cave, which can be passed from behind the waterfall. It was almost noon when we arrived at the scenic spot. We had a trip to Shizhang Cave that day, so we chose to take a sightseeing bus up. After passing the first and second waterfalls, after getting off the bus, the walking path was basically a bamboo path shaded by trees, full of greenery. Moreover, most of the tourists were returning, so the road ahead was very quiet.

The tour lasts about two hours.

Compared with Shizhangdong Waterfall, Sidonggou Scenic Area is less vigorous and more beautiful. The four waterfalls not far from each other are unique. The cave in Chishui refers to waterfalls, and Sidonggou is a ravine with four waterfalls.

On June 10, 2017, I saw the photos of Sidonggou on the Internet and chose it as my first choice in Chishui City, Guizhou. I just didn't understand why there were no caves in the photos. Later I learned that Chishui people call waterfalls "dongs" in their dialect. I was not very excited about the 1st to 3rd caves until I saw the 4th cave. I was confused. How could the waterfall be so beautiful?

Sidonggou is called "Garden of Ten Thousand Bamboos" and "Jade from a Small Family" by the National Tourism Resources Investigation Team. It is a scenic spot without any flaws.

Special note: When returning to Chishui from Sidonggou, you can wait for the bus from Sidonggou to Datong Town at the bridge in front of the scenic area gate for 2 yuan to Datong. After getting off the bus, take the bus from Datong to Chishui Tourist Bus Station for 3 yuan.
