Zhangbei Grassland

After leaving the scenic area, I went to the farmhouse that I had booked in advance, the Saiwai Frontier Farmhouse, which is right in the Zhongdu Grassland! My sister and her friends have been there and said it was very good, and recommended it to me. I personally feel that it is better to bring children out to live in a farmhouse. It is more humane than a hotel, and the air is good on the grassland when you go out! The yard is large and provides many free entertainment projects (football, badminton, shuttlecock, skipping rope, swing, yoga equipment, KTV, mahjong machine, etc.) I stayed here for two days and felt very good. The room is not too big or too small, just right for a family of three. There is wireless, hot water can be taken, and it is clean enough! Her family's food is delicious and affordable, and the breakfast is very rich (millet porridge, pumpkin porridge, milk tea, mutton soup, eggs, steamed buns, fried dough sticks, side dishes, pickles, fermented tofu) 10 yuan per person, children are free, eat as much as you want! Zhangbei Grassland is actually divided into two parts, Zhongdu Grassland and Anguli Grassland. Because Zhongdu Grassland has a large number of farmhouses, there are historical stage plays, iron flower performances, and bonfire parties in the scenic area at night. Most tourists choose to stay here. I would like to remind everyone here that the natural grassland of Zhongdu Grassland is actually in the resort, and many people did not go in so they could not see it. There are also grasslands behind the scenic area, but they are not very good. Anguli Grassland is more than 20 kilometers away from Zhongdu Grassland. You will pass by the Yuan Zhongdu ruins on the way. You may as well go in and take a look. The journey takes about 20 minutes. Anguli Grassland is on the Zhangshang Line west of Zhangbei Guild Town. Here you can also feel the vastness and magnificence of the grassland. Of course, this is limited to watching the grassland. The windmill not far away gives people an illusion in the sunset, as if in a dream. If you want to see Anguli Nao, don't go. The water in the Nao has long been dry.

When we went there, we stayed at the Juhanxuan Farm in Zhongdu Grassland. The owner had a very good service attitude and there were many kinds of food, especially barbecue, unlike other places that only had lamb chops, lamb legs, and whole lamb. He had red willow skewers, roasted lamb legs, lamb chops, etc. It almost solved the problem of fear of waste due to small number of people. The yurt for accommodation was clean and tidy. Although the facilities were average, it could meet everyone's daily needs.

It was my first time to the grassland. The scenery of Zhongdu Grassland in Zhangbei was pleasant. There were white clouds under the blue sky, and the grassland was endless. Sheep were playing and horses were running. It was a vivid grassland oil painting. This trip was a gathering with friends. There were many activities nearby. Not only that, there were things to do in Zhongdu Grassland Resort, but also many things recommended by hotels outside. The natural scenery was beautiful. Maybe it was my first time to come to the grassland. I opened my arms and embraced the sea of grass. It was my first time to book a hotel on Ctrip, but I met such a beautiful famous hotel among many hotels. The hotel was not very high-end, but it was comfortable, warm and Mongolian. The bed sheets, quilt covers, cleanliness and dining environment made me feel that my choice was right. The boss and the boss's wife both graduated from college and went home to start a business away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Maybe it was the simple folk customs that made the boss's service attitude good and did everything possible to meet the needs of the guests. Not only is it comfortable to stay here, but you can also have fun here, because the boss has discounted entertainment packages, including horseback riding, grass skiing, archery, drift cars, etc. She will even tell you how to buy tickets to nearby scenic spots at a cheaper price or help you buy them. As for the itinerary, the hotel owner is a local tour guide. She will help you arrange a full two-day itinerary, and she will even point out the clean road to the grassland sky road.

As for the food, the most distinctive one is the roasted whole lamb. More importantly, you can see the lamb being slaughtered right before your eyes. With more than ten years of operation and more than ten years of experience in roasting whole lamb, this Zhongdu restaurant has received numerous praises. The taste is indeed very memorable.

I went to Zhangbei Grassland during the Dragon Boat Festival. I felt that the grass was not very good and there were not many things to do. However, the boss said that it would be better in July and August. Maybe we came a little early.

I recommend staying at Jinrui Farm. The owner is hospitable, the roasted whole lamb is delicious, and he gave us free rice dumplings, which is great! The iron flowers are very beautiful, and I recommend everyone to watch them. You can buy tickets from the owner, and you can get discounts.

I come here almost every year, the food and accommodation are also very good, during the bonfire, the boss lady also gave the children Kongming lanterns and fireworks. Her little girl is also very cute, my son always follows her, sees her eating snacks, and keeps asking if he can break a piece for me? I am embarrassed. Because there was a bonfire party, I didn't go to the resort's evening performance. It takes an hour to get to Inner Mongolia. The route recommended by the boss is very good, I will definitely come again in the future!

Zhangbei Grassland

Zhangbei Grassland is Zhongdu Grassland. Don't think they are two places. There is another name called Anguli Grassland. The main things to do on the grassland are horseback riding and bonfire parties. The food is hand-pulled meat and roasted whole lamb. I recommend a place to everyone, Jinrui Farm in Zhongdu Grassland. We went there. The food is authentic and the service is enthusiastic.

Zhangbei Grassland is the closest grassland to Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei, and is suitable for a two-day grassland tour. Several of our big families set out from Beijing and drove all the way here. We stayed at a homestay where a friend stayed last year, the Saiwai Farm closest to Zhangbei Grassland. My friend said that the roasted whole lamb at Saiwai Farm is good, and friends who travel to the grassland must try it. The roasted whole lamb is slaughtered and marinated for 3 hours, then baked in the oven for 1:30 hours, and then brushed with secret seasoning. The workmanship is fine, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. We booked a lamb in advance to enjoy the lamb that grew up eating grass on the grassland.



Itinerary: (1) Driving route from Beijing: 1: Take the Badaling Expressway from Beijing Changping to the Beijing-Zhangjiakou Expressway, the Danla Expressway, the Zhangshi Expressway (not at the Zhangbei South Exit), and continue to the Haojiaying Expressway Exit - go forward about 100 meters and turn right - Xijiaying - Sanmianjing - Wufutang - Dasanbao (Zhangbei Zhongdu Grassland Saiwai Farm) (2) After eating roasted whole lamb at noon, take a short break to see the grassland scenery, ride horses, and play with cars on the Zhongdu Grassland. It was my first time to go to the grassland and live in a yurt. I felt the Mongolian style and the human touch of the local people. We headed north and came to the famous Zhangbei Grassland. As soon as we entered the village, we came to a down-to-earth farmhouse yurt Zhongdu Ecological Forest Park. The courtyard environment was good and the food was super affordable, especially the roasted whole lamb, which was freshly slaughtered and roasted at home. We couldn't eat it there. The boss was very honest and provided us with a good itinerary. He also took us out to play and bargained for us. It's really rare to meet such a boss when you go out... I will come again if I have the chance

We went there with some good friends. My wife contacted Zhangbei Shijiayuan before we went. We originally planned to book directly, but the friend's wife was suspicious and said we should wait until we got there before booking. We didn't want to force it. When we got there, there were many people on motorcycles picking up customers on the roadside. Everyone wanted to go and have a look. We followed the motorcycle to his house and looked at the room. My wife whispered to me that she didn't want to stay. Later, we looked at several other houses and were not satisfied with them. Later, we decided to go to Zhangbei Shijiayuan to have a look. After all, we decided to book their house in the first place. When we arrived, the proprietress showed us the room. It was indeed clean and spacious. Although it was a farmhouse, it could be compared with chain hotels. We were very satisfied, so we asked the proprietress to Five rooms were opened, but only two were left. Everyone was disappointed. During the conversation, we learned that they had many repeat customers. The rooms needed to be booked in advance. We did not book with them when we contacted them at the beginning. Now there is no way. We just looked at other rooms. Everyone regretted it, especially my wife's face was very bad. The friend's wife who did not let us book before also lowered her head and did not speak. In order to avoid the awkward atmosphere, we went to the boss and asked him to think of a solution. He said that we could only live separately in these two rooms, and then he found three rooms with similar grades to his house. There was no other way but to do this. My wife and I and another family lived in this courtyard, and the three of them lived in other houses. When we had dinner together in the evening, they kept saying that the room was not very clean. Remember it next time you come. I am very satisfied with their house, especially the roasted whole lamb, which is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. It is very delicious 😋. I will come again if I have the chance. I also went to the resort to watch the bonfire party and play iron flowers. Everyone had a good time. When riding horses, the boss helped me buy a package ticket, which was very cheap. I immediately understood the words "many repeat customers" because I will be the next repeat customer.

Zhangbei Grassland is located in Zhangbei County, northwest of Zhangjiakou. It is the grassland closest to Beijing (250 kilometers). The climate is cool in summer and the scenery is pleasant, making it suitable for leisure and vacation.

The grasslands are not as good as those in Inner Mongolia, and the Sky Road is just a hype, without any special features. The camels and sheep are not as good as those in Inner Mongolia.

If you have time, you should go to Inner Mongolia, which is close enough to visit.

Our main purpose of coming to Zhangbei was to "investigate" the ruins of Yuan Zhongdu, and we only regarded the Zhangbei grassland as a passing scenery.

The entrance of the Grassland Sky Road is about 3 hours' drive from downtown Beijing (assuming there is no traffic jam). The "Grassland Sky Road" is 132.7 kilometers long, and it takes about 3-3.5 hours to drive from the entrance to the exit. The road is winding, with rivers and mountains, deep gullies, meadows with cattle and sheep, and magnificent scenery, presenting a Bailibatou landscape painting. There are many cultural, ecological and geological tourism resources such as the ancient Great Wall ruins, Huapilingling, Yehuling, and Zhangbei Grassland.



Summer or early autumn is the best time to go. In summer, the grassland is full of vitality and in early autumn, the grassland changes colors gradually, which are not to be missed. We went there just after the Mid-Autumn Festival. There were almost no people on the road, and it was very smooth, suitable for relaxing.

It was already night when we went there. We drove around the periphery. The grassland was endless but not as big as we imagined. The grass was very low and there were not many flowers. As soon as we entered the entrance, there were a lot of cars. The place with flowers was surrounded by people. It was charged to enter and take pictures. Purple verbena, colorful Gesang flowers... Although the flowers are beautiful, there are too many people and cars and everything is messy. There are also many entertainment projects such as horse riding and archery. We did not stop and continued to drive forward. The grassland became more and more open, and the sky became bluer and bluer. We drove slowly on the two-way single lane and enjoyed the cool breeze. On the emerald grassland on the horizon, there were occasionally a few small red houses, white windmills, yellow rapeseed flowers, and brown-red horses eating grass slowly... Many times, there was only an upward road and a skyline in front of you, and you couldn't see where the road on the other side of the line turned. The wisps of white clouds floated by. This natural scenery is my favorite. In Shanxi, the sky is mostly gray, and even on sunny days, it is not much better. Here, the flowers, trees, and houses are all as fresh and clean as if they had just been washed.

The grasslands here are colorful. Even though they are all green, they show different shades of green. Yellow-green, bean green, tea green, emerald green, Shapu green, peacock blue-green, dark green... There are so many shades of green that I can't even name them all.

The overall grassland scenery is very good, but the commercialization is a bit chaotic. The planning of the scenic area and public facilities are poor. The streets are dirty and messy. It would be better if some flowers and streets were planned. I stayed in a farmhouse in the northern frontier. The accommodation environment was not bad, and the mutton was delicious.

The large windmills turning with the wind have become a unique landscape of Zhangbei grassland.

Traveling in space, 338 yuan set meal with 15 dishes, 1 soup and a roasted whole lamb? Are you kidding me?

The scenery here is just like the people here, real and unrenovated. The most intact original grassland is preserved here, magnificent, vast and cool, and is the component and essence of the Xilin Gol Grassland in Inner Mongolia. On the grassland, you would be embarrassed to say that you have been here if you don't eat some mutton. The preparation of grilled lamb chops on the grassland is not complicated, and the seasoning is also simple, using only sesame oil and cumin powder. It's an ordinary provincial road (county road). Since the roadside has some grassland characteristics and it is so close to the capital Beijing, this road was developed into a tourist attraction. Fortunately, it is free and it also provides some employment and income for the residents along the road. Now that you are there, you can go for a walk.

The purpose of my trip was to explore the company's team-building activities here. The boss impressed me as simple and honest. The company originally planned to send a car here, but after thinking about it, I decided to test whether the free pick-up and drop-off in the county town mentioned in the boss's comments was true or not. Entering the Juhanxuan courtyard, the courtyard is very large, with yurts for accommodation on both sides. The boss took me to the big yurt restaurant to check in, and then arranged me in Room 8. The room was clean and tidy, and the sheets and quilts were all new. During my chat with the boss, the boss introduced me to the surrounding attractions within 20 kilometers. 800 meters away from him is the Zhongdu Original Grassland Resort, 200 meters away is the Huatian Caohai Ecological Park, 5 kilometers away is Swan Lake, 10 kilometers away is the Yuan Zhongdu Ruins, 18 kilometers away is the Senadu International Tourism Resort, and 30 kilometers away is the Yehuling Military Fortress and the Grassland Sky Road. The cost-effectiveness of these attractions is higher at the Senadu International Tourism Resort, in the form of a package.

It happened that Beijing Tiansheng Decoration was holding a team-building activity here. At my request, the boss agreed to take me to play with them. The fourth stop was the bonfire party in the Juhanxuan courtyard. The cast was very good and the performances were rich, including iron flower making, Mongolian girls singing, dancing, magic, acrobatics, etc. Everyone had a great time. You can set off Kongming lanterns and fireworks in the courtyard.

However, the hardware facilities in the courtyard still need to be improved, such as the shower in the room, the water output is not very good. Overall, this price and service attitude are still worthy of recognition.

The rooms are more upscale and the courtyard is big enough. I stayed there for two days and visited Tianlu, Zhongdu Grassland Resort and the racecourse. The boss helped me buy a horse riding package. The day before yesterday, we went to Zhangbei Zhongdu Grassland for a visit. We chose a nearby farmhouse called "Anhe Grassland Hotel" for our meals and accommodation. The white yurts filled the entire yard. The annual rock festival also brings together fans from all over the country and even the world. The atmosphere on the scene is definitely not comparable to that in the city. I am an optimistic old lady who likes traveling and food! Both parents are busy and neglect their children's after-school time. So, I decided to take my grandson and granddaughter to Zhangbei Bashang Grassland for a short trip on weekends. Before leaving, my daughter booked a triple room at Zhangbei Grassland Xinrong Farm on Meituan.com and wrote down the owner's phone number. The three of us set out from Tianjin, took a train to Zhangjiakou Railway Station, took bus No. 101 from Zhangjiakou to Zhangbei, and arrived at Zhangbei Zhongdu Grassland Resort. I called the owner of the farmhouse to pick us up at the intersection. The owner, young, enthusiastic and hospitable, so we moved into Zhangbei Xinrong Farm. The room was clean and tidy.

1️⃣Every morning from 5.40 to 7.00 or 2 pm, there will be a 101 bus opposite the exit of Zhangjiakou South Station that goes directly to Zhangbei County (17 yuan)

If you have never been to the grassland, this place is a good choice as it is relatively close, but compared to the deep grassland, it feels a bit unsatisfactory. You can take a look, but it won't be particularly shocking. The windmill has some characteristics.

Zhangbei Grassland is the grassland closest to Beijing, so many Beijingers will choose to go here for short trips on weekends. We came here as part of our class's graduation trip. Generally speaking, the grass quality is still far behind that of the truly wild provinces such as Inner Mongolia and Xinjiang, but the advantage is that it is close. There are many farmhouses, but in general, the construction of various paid scenic spots is not very high. They are mainly ordinary entertainment facilities such as horse riding and archery, and many of the facilities are relatively old. In summary, I give it three stars. It is suitable for short trips. If conditions permit, those who really want to see the prairie should choose to go to Inner Mongolia.

I went there in late July 2017. The weather was quite cool and a little sunny. The local accommodation environment was OK. You can choose to live in a building (about 70) or a yurt (about 50). You should pay attention to adding more clothes when going out at night. Zhangbei Grassland is quite large and has many attractions, including Huatian Grassland, Agricultural Ecological Park, and Hot Spring Resort Area. The largest resort is Zhongdu Grassland. There is a grassland music festival every July and August. There are many entertainment projects in Zhongdu Grassland, but you need to buy tickets separately to enter. You can also experience various grassland entertainment projects outside Zhongdu Grassland, such as horse riding, camel riding, off-road vehicles, karts, gliders, archery shooting, etc. The Swan Lake Wetland area is a relatively mature entertainment area. In terms of food, you can try the local lamb legs or lamb chops, which cost 188-208 yuan. Remember to bargain with the boss. If there are few people, the lamb legs are very heavy and you need to consider whether to order other dishes. Finding a cool place for a picnic is also a very pleasant choice.

Zhangbei Grassland is also called Zhongdu Grassland. There is only one tourist attraction there. The words "Zhongdu Grassland" are written on the gate. The ticket is 78 yuan. Only after you go in can you see the more lush and vast grassland. There is a bonfire party starting at 8:30 in the evening. We rode horses outside the gate at 4 o'clock, which cost 50 yuan for half an hour. We entered the gate at 6 o'clock. There are shooting and archery activities inside. It is an amusement park. Overall, it is okay.

After reading a lot of reviews and guides, a group of 9 people started a pleasant grassland trip on June 6. We booked in advance at Zhongdu Ecological Forest Park (also seeing good reviews online). The boss told us to go to Zhongdu Grassland first and go to Tianlu the next day, so that we would not be tired and have fun. We just saw the world's largest yurt without spending any money, which was very worthwhile! When we returned to the farmhouse in the evening, the boss had already marinated the lamb and it was almost cooked. We ordered a few dishes and started eating. The taste was really good. It took half an hour to get to the Sky Road from Huapiling, and 3 hours to get to Yehuling and get on the Zhangshi Expressway to set off on the road back to Beijing. We walked and watched all the way and experienced the scenery of nature. The windmills were turning and the sheep were grazing. It was beautiful!

On the second morning, we had breakfast and went to the grassland sky road. The most satisfying thing about this trip is that, first, our team spirit is very good, and the tour arrives safely and smoothly. Second, the accommodation and meals at Zhangbei Saiwai Farm are affordable, and the boss is kind. A suggestion for friends who travel here: You can enjoy the Zhangbei Grassland in two days. First go to Zhangbei Zhongdu Grassland and then go to Grassland Sky Road on the second day. Before I arrived at Bashang, I also read a lot of guides, precautions, tourist attractions, local food, etc. So if you want to go out in good condition, it is still necessary to prepare for the trip. What can you do in the grassland? Some people say it is just riding a horse. At first, I thought so too. Finally, after listening to the explanation of the boss of the farm where I stayed, I realized that there are many things to do in the grassland. It can be said that my sharing is very valuable. The same group of people went to the grassland. Some people just took pictures and rode horses, played karts, and the rest were just strolling around. But the boss told us why not bring a football, why not bring a badminton. I suddenly felt that the boss's idea was really extraordinary. How long can you watch the grassland alone? If you integrate into the grassland, you will not be enough in those two days. "It is also said that there is a small forest. This is a platform. It depends on how you play." He said. In short, there are many things to play, of course, there are also some that we have played and don't want to play. I won't say much about these. We were from the same company, and there were 8 or 9 cars. We parked in the yard of the farm, and we occupied a small half of the parking space. But that yard should be said to be a large yard. There are also things to pay attention to when playing. The boss took us to play and acted as a temporary tour guide for us (just arrange the play well). Before playing, we were not allowed to bring anything unnecessary, wear long pants and flat shoes, and repeatedly told us to bring our mobile phones when riding horses and cars. The price was okay, but it was very expensive to buy shoes and specialties inside. It is recommended not to buy them inside. At noon, we grilled the leftover mutton from yesterday at the farm and ordered three sets of meals. After eating, we went to the Grassland Sky Road. It was the Grassland Sky Road. The boss asked us to take the east line. The east line was longer and closer to Huapiling, which was more beautiful. This is my personal experience, not a fabrication. The so-called Zhangbei grassland is not a real grassland. If you want to see the grassland, you should go a little further, to Keshiketeng. When you get there, you will see endless grassland and experience what it means to have a sky like a dome covering the whole field. Not to mention the Darinor Lake.

Zhangbei grassland has blue sky, vast land, green grass and clear water. June to September every year is the best tourist season. Grassland Sky Road, Huapiling, Bashang Grassland, Yehuling... birch forests, huge wind turbines, zipper-like roads, cattle and sheep dotted on the green carpet, flowers that you can't get enough of, children with innocent smiles... all of these make us linger. Come here, you can sing loudly, let you be full of poetry, let you forget the fatigue of work, let your soul be purified, just like heaven, as if living in a painting.
