“If you haven’t been to Central Street, you can’t say you’ve been to Harbin”
Although Central Street is not the longest street in Harbin, it encompasses the four most influential architectural schools in the history of Western architecture, including the common Renaissance style that originated in the 15th and 16th centuries, the Baroque and Eclecticism in the early 17th century, and the Art Nouveau buildings in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. There are 75 European and imitation European-style buildings on the street, and 36 European-style city-level protected buildings in Renaissance, Baroque, Eclecticism and modern styles. These buildings embody the essence of Western architectural art, making Central Street an architectural art gallery.

Central Street is located in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, the music capital known as the "Little Paris of the East". It is currently the largest and longest pedestrian street in Asia. It was built in 1898 and was initially called "China Street". In 1925, it was renamed "Central Street" which has been used to this day. Various architectural styles that have been formed over hundreds of years in the history of Western architecture are gathered in the street, making Central Street the most famous street in the Far East at that time. The unique architectural culture of old Harbin and the European lifestyle of Harbin people are clearly reflected here. Harbin Central Street starts from the Songhua River Flood Control Memorial Tower in the north and ends at Jingwei Street in the south. It is 1,450 meters long and 21.34 meters wide.

Harbin's Central Street starts from the flood control memorial square on the river bank in the north and connects to Xinyang Square in the south, with a total length of 1,400 meters. There are many beautiful European-style buildings along the street, as well as city-level protected buildings in Renaissance, Baroque, eclectic and modern styles. The shops on both sides sell Russian souvenirs, as well as Madiel popsicles and black bread. It is brightly lit at night and looks very beautiful.

Every big city has a pedestrian street.
This street is called Nanjing Road in Shanghai, Wangfujing in Beijing, Chunxi Road in Chengdu... and Central Avenue in Harbin.
There are many Russian small commodity stores, Russian Western restaurants, Qiulin Liados, etc. on Central Street.
As souvenirs, you can choose the red sausage and black bread here.
That’s right, there are also the legendary floor tiles that cost one US dollar each.
Eating a Madiel popsicle is a must-try item. The original and hazelnut flavors are recommended. It was really delicious. We ate it during the day and bought it again when we passed by at night.

Opposite the Flood Control Memorial Tower is the famous Central Street, a must-visit place for tourists. Central Street starts from the Flood Control Memorial Tower Square on the riverside in the north and connects to Xinyang Square in the south, with a length of 1,400 meters. This long street was built in 1900, and the street buildings include 71 buildings in various styles such as Renaissance and Baroque. This commercial street with a history of more than 100 years is a gathering of many classic European-style buildings, and is also full of various department stores. Every night the whole street is rendered by lights and colorful, which is a must-visit place in Harbin. The colorful lights dot the trees in winter, making the originally lifeless trees instantly appear dazzling. In Harbin Central Street, Madiel popsicles are well-known, and most tourists come here for their reputation, so there is always a long queue in front of the cold drink hall.

When I am very tired, I will choose to change the environment and take a rest. A short trip of two days and one night can make me feel refreshed.
When I was a kid, I always listened to Wang Gang's magnetic voice telling stories about Harbin at night. This place was full of mysterious temptations for me. So, before the beginning of winter in 2016, I got off work and took a flight, sneaking into Harbin at night...
It is late autumn in Beijing, but not in Harbin! I put on my thickest clothes when I went out. Fortunately, it was a sunny day on Saturday, and the thermometers on the street clearly showed zero degrees... It felt like walking in a refrigerator. The plan for this trip was to stroll around the European-style Central Street, eat a traditional Russian Western restaurant, and pretend that I had traveled abroad.
Central Street was built in 1900. The street buildings include Renaissance, Baroque and other styles of architecture. The most distinctive feature is that the whole street is paved with square stones. The square stones are carved from granite, 18 cm long and 10 cm wide, and the shape and size are like Russian bread, exquisite and shiny.
There are many Russian-style western restaurants on this street, and there are several century-old restaurants. The restaurant we finally chose is Huamei Western Restaurant, which was built in 1925. It was originally named "Mars Tea Shop" and mainly sells Russian dishes. The interior decoration is magnificent, but the price is very affordable and the service style is very state-owned. The beef that must be ordered on every table tastes very good, worthy of being a time-honored brand.
The end point of this tour is the Sophia Cathedral, which was built in 1907. It is a wooden structure and was originally a military church built by the Tsarist Russia when it built the Middle East Railway. The overall architectural style is Byzantine, and the main dome and bell tower have the traditional Russian "tent top" and "onion head" shapes.
After a cold spell in Harbin, I felt refreshed and returned to Beijing fully rejuvenated.

We immediately took a taxi to Central Avenue and caught up with the snowy Central Avenue. Pedestrians were hurrying on the road, and snowflakes were flying in the air, which was even more moving against the backdrop of the tree lights. The ice sculptures on Central Avenue were actually quite interesting. In a corner of the street, there was a small window selling candied haws.
There are many vendors selling candied haws on the street. These things are common on the streets of Shenyang, while those selling red sausages and Madiel popsicles are more distinctive.
There are both English and Russian words on the road signs, and the mottled rust patterns make them look more old.

Since it was New Year's Eve, there were not many people on the street, and they should all be reuniting at home. People were burning paper and setting off firecrackers on the street. Nanjing is a city where fireworks are prohibited, so I haven't heard such lively firecrackers for a long time, which reminded me of my childhood.
The streets were full of fireworks and were particularly beautiful. The streets were quite lively, with many young people setting off fairy wands. We also bought a few and joined the crowd. In the cold weather, the streets were full of flashing lights, dazzling fireworks, and the sound of firecrackers. People were not afraid of the cold and were laughing and playing on the streets. At this moment, I felt a different New Year in the north, and this moment was unforgettable.
There are many dog ice sculptures on the street, which are very vivid and cute. I admire myself for having the courage to touch the ice sculptures with my hands in minus ten degrees.
The next day, I saw Central Avenue during the day. Compared with the night of the 30th, the street was very lively, with people coming and going, and all the shops were open. There were many ice sculptures and snow sculptures on the street, as well as many ice sculptures by advertisers. It was the first time I knew of such an operation.

Harbin's Central Street is definitely the city's business card. If you come to Harbin and don't go to Central Street, you haven't been to Harbin. This should be the earliest and largest pedestrian street in Asia. It was called China Street in the early days and later became Central Street. There are many old Baroque-style buildings here. It is also a street for foodies. The famous Madiel popsicles, Harbin grilled red sausages, black bread, etc. It is definitely a good choice to come here. The night view at night is also great.

Central Street is really beautiful at night~~~ Harbin in winter has a lot of ice, snow, and people, as well as a lot of candied haws. My mother and I like to eat candied haws, and it is really tempting here~ I recommend you to buy the one not far from the entrance of Central Street, which is much cheaper than the one in front.
If you take a closer look, you will find that the buildings on Central Avenue are really beautiful!

It was very difficult to find someone on the freezing cold Central Street. We finally found him after half an hour of searching. After dinner, a Harbin customer acted as our guide and took us to see the night view of Harbin Central Street. It was really beautiful. The trees on the street were full of stars, which was very romantic and suitable for couples to take photos on a date. Well, in this scene, I took a photo with my brother to show that I had been there.

For foodies, Huamei Restaurant is a must-see. You may have to wait in line for a while though. You can also try the Harbin red sausage from the stalls, or a string of crystal clear candied haws that will make your mouth water.
Of course, the most important thing you can't miss is to stand on the cold street in the winter and eat a famous Harbin Madiel popsicle! The taste will make you unforgettable and make you cry!

Central Street is to Harbin what Binjiang Road is to Tianjin and Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street is to Shanghai. This is also the place that best reflects Harbin. The dustpan-shaped bricks and two-story foreign tiles, the prosperity of the main street and the weeds on the side streets all represent that this city is a combination of rapidly developing fish-scale buildings and dilapidated buildings that have not changed for decades. There are many large ice sculptures and snow sculptures on the pedestrian street, each of which is cute. The down-to-earth Miss Qu's favorite is of course the God of Wealth~the street with fireworks. You must eat a Madiel popsicle when you go to Central Street. In addition to Madiel popsicles, two heavy postcard enthusiasts must also check in at the post office.

Central Street in the morning is very deserted. Except for the light yellow and mint green houses, there are no tourists. If it weren't for the various Russian names, I would have thought I was in Macau again. But compared to the stereotyped earth-colored screen buildings in the city today, I really like this kind of architecture, which is fresh and bright. The Russian-style buildings on both sides of Central Street are spread out one after another. They look very beautiful under the embellishment of lights at night. I feel like I can cure my cervical spine by looking at them all the way.
Of course, it's okay to just look at the top, but the front is full of people. There are also plastic imitation ice sculptures on the roadside of Central Avenue!!! Tourists who don't come in winter can also fulfill their wish to take photos with the ice sculptures! It's really considerate~ Every fork in the road has a different view. At the end of the road, you can vaguely see the iron arch~ The four words "Central Avenue" are clearly visible~ Under the yellow light~ It has a sense of winter's bleakness~ Even though there are many tourists below it and it's very noisy~ There are more people taking photos in front of the arch...

Central Street is the city center of Harbin and can be said to be a must-visit place in Harbin. Adjacent to the famous Songhua River and Sophia Cathedral, it is the most lively and prosperous neighborhood in Harbin. When we went there, it was Christmas. There were many colorful ice sculptures on the street, and colorful lights were hung on the trees. It was very lively.
In Harbin, you can't see any shops open for business, because... it's cold! Heating is expensive~ Many shops have a small window to collect money and take out things, which is very cute~

It is recognized as the longest pedestrian street in Asia. The buildings on both sides of the street have a long history. Most of them were built by Russians and Jews, and are European-style buildings. Now these buildings have been converted into shops. There are many delicacies on Central Street, such as Madiel popsicles, grilled red sausages, Meilin cakes, and black bread. There are also restaurants in other national styles. At the end of the street is the flood control memorial tower, which is also worth visiting. Central Street, as the memory of every Harbin citizen, has been attracting every tourist endlessly.

If you come to Harbin and don't walk around Central Street, it's like you haven't been to Harbin. Even if time is tight and you can only go to one place, I think this should be the first choice. Regardless of the length and what is sold, the most important thing is to feel the atmosphere of a city. Central Street can be said to be the most distinctive and stylish pedestrian street in the country. Although the commercial atmosphere gradually envelops the sense of history, it continues the flavor and prosperity of a city.

The streets were crowded during the National Day holiday, and soon I discovered an interesting phenomenon: regardless of gender, age or status, everyone was holding Madiel popsicles. Eating Madiel popsicles is a fashion in Harbin, and Harbin Roulian Food Store is also a Harbin specialty food!
After enjoying the sunset over the Songhua River, we walked back along Central Avenue. The lights on the road were already shining brightly, and a warm atmosphere enveloped us.

Central Street is very beautiful. I believe that tourists who go to Harbin will not miss this place. The buildings there are very beautiful and distinctive. Various buildings of different colors and styles are arranged on a street, but it is magical that they do not feel chaotic but beautiful and atmospheric. I believe that they should be more valuable in the eyes of architects. There are many famous shops on Central Street, such as Madiel Popsicle, Madiel Western Restaurant, etc. I strongly recommend trying Madiel Popsicle, which has a strong milky flavor and tastes great. I personally recommend going to Central Street twice, once during the day and once at night, which are completely two different beautiful views. You can live near Central Street, where there are still many hotels. Central Street can reach Saint Sophia Cathedral by walking along West 14th Street, a branch road of Central Street. At the end of Central Street is the Flood Control Memorial Tower, next to which is the Songhua River. The Songhua River in December has frozen and you can see many people playing some ice sports on it. If you are interested, you can also try it. Central Street is a place where scenic spots are relatively concentrated. It is highly recommended to have a good time.

The longest pedestrian street in China is lined with shops on both sides, selling all kinds of clothing and restaurants. On both sides of the street are European-style buildings from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The end of Central Avenue extending towards the Songhua River is the famous Flood Control Memorial Tower. The Flood Control Memorial Tower can be said to be the business card of Harbin city. It is a must-visit place when you come to Harbin. On this street, you can eat the most authentic Madiel popsicles, appreciate the European-style buildings from the early 20th century, and see many beautiful and fashionable Harbin girls. If you come here in winter, you can also see ice sculptures along the street. Five-star recommendation!

Central Street was first built in 1898, when a large number of Russians came to Harbin to build the China-Eastern Railway. They needed a road that led directly to the Songhua River wharf to facilitate the transportation of road construction materials. This is where Central Street originated.
In May 1924, Russian engineer Komtrashok designed and supervised the construction of the Chinese Street, which was paved with square stones. The designed width of the square stone road is 10.8 meters. The square stones used for paving are carved granite, 18 cm long and 10 cm wide, and the shape and size are like Russian bread.
In 1986, Harbin Municipal People's Government designated Central Avenue as a protected street. With the changes of the times, it has gradually developed from a simple commercial and urban traffic street to a pedestrian commercial street integrating tourism, shopping, entertainment, leisure and other functions.

Central Avenue is the former site of Harbin Special Municipal Government, the Samsonovich Brothers Chamber of Commerce of French Jews, the former sites of Harbin Jewish activities (the former site of Qiulin Foreign Company Daoli Branch), the former site of the French International Savings Association, the Iglevi Qian Store, the former site of the Jewish P.A. Berkevich Building, the former site of Citibank, the warning tower of the Jewish National Bank, the crystal stage of Swan Lake, the Aokun Building, the former site of Harbin First-Class Post Office, the former site of the Madiel Attached Theater, the Harbin Russian Overseas Chinese Memorial Hall, the former site of the International Foreign Company, the former site of the Lianyi Hotel, the former site of the Agrov Foreign Company, the afterglow of the Songpu Foreign Company Old Street, the Central Fortune Plaza, the former sites of Harbin Jewish activities (Jewish Middle School),

The Central Street Pedestrian Street was built in 1898 and was originally called China Street. In 1925, it was renamed Central Street, which has been used ever since. It has now developed into the most prosperous commercial street in Harbin. The street starts from the Songhua River Flood Control Memorial Tower in the north and ends at Jingwei Street in the south. It is 1,450 meters long and is known as the No. 1 Street in Harbin. With its unique European-style buildings, rows of boutique commercial buildings, flower-filled leisure communities and colorful cultural life, it has become a beautiful landscape in Harbin. There are 71 European-style and imitation European-style buildings on the street, including Baroque, eclecticism, and Art Nouveau buildings from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. These buildings are the essence of Western architectural art. It is not an exaggeration to call Central Street an art gallery of buildings.

I heard a long time ago that it is the most lively and prosperous place in Harbin, with buildings of different styles from different periods on both sides of the street, and the famous Madiel restaurant. To be honest, I don't feel much about crowded places, and I mostly avoid them, but when I checked the guide before, Madiel ice cream and its popular queue scene attracted me, so I thought I must come here to try it, what kind of ice cream can be so attractive!

Harbin's Central Street is a must-visit for tourists to Harbin. There are many exotic buildings here. The must-try Madiel in Harbin and many popular online stores are concentrated here. In the evening, you can also encounter exotic street performances on the street. The Harbin Flood Control Memorial Tower, which witnessed history, is also located at one end of Central Street.

If you are not from the south, you will see the snow scene and ice sculptures on the street. The pedestrian street is no different from ordinary pedestrian streets in other cities. The Madiel ice cream on the street is really delicious. The picture below shows that a native Harbin person took us to the most authentic Northeastern restaurant! The dumplings and noodles in the Northeast are so delicious that I don’t want to leave just for the dumplings!

There is a lot to eat and many old buildings are very distinctive, but there are not many other features. Anyway, if you come to Harbin, you must visit Central Street.

Harbin's earliest pedestrian street, the most distinctive feature is the bread stone underfoot, buy a Madiel is enough

The Centennial Central Street is a famous attraction in Harbin, especially at night when the lights are bright and beautiful. However, many restaurants close at 9 o'clock.

There are many delicious foods, spacious and clean streets, unique European-style buildings, and shopping malls. It is good for shopping and taking pictures. The Songhua River is at the end.

There are so many tourists in the peak season that the experience is just average!

Harbin's century-old pedestrian street is worth visiting.

A pedestrian street with some characteristics, very clean, leading directly to the Songhua River. There are more tourists speaking Shanghainese on the street than on Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street.

I originally thought it was just a commercial street that is the same in every city, but the buildings on Central Avenue are unique because of their strong Russian style.

Central Street is a famous tourist attraction in Harbin, with Russian-style architecture. The street runs north-south, and the 1998 Flood Control Memorial Tower stands on the riverside.

Must go!!! Eat Madiel popsicles and go to Songhua River, Flood Control Memorial Tower and Cableway

Very good, a must-visit place in Harbin.

I always walk to the riverside from the beginning. Step on the breadstone. It is very lively. The lights are shining at night.

This is the street with the most tourists. Madiel is also here. In fact, the old buildings on both sides are quite good. It would be better to build a venue to introduce the history of this place.

70 points during the day and 99 points at night. One point more would be a waste of pride. The beautification at night is really great.

A great pedestrian street, a must-see attraction in Harbin. It is beautiful when lit up at night.

Starting from the Flood Control Memorial Square on the Harbin River in the north and connecting to Xinyang Square in the south, it is 1,400 meters long. It was built in 1900 and has 71 buildings in various styles, including Renaissance and Baroque.

Harbin red sausage, Qiulin kvass, Madiel ice cream are recommended

There is everything for eating, drinking and having fun. It is nothing special during the day, just an ordinary street. But it is very beautiful at night when the lights are on. There are also some ice sculptures on both sides of the road. Because the Lantern Festival is approaching, there are some lantern riddles hung on the trees on both sides.

Harbin's busiest commercial street leads directly to the Songhua River.

On the first day in the Northeast, we cried because of the cold on Central Street. We blamed ourselves for being too young and not taking anti-freeze measures. The buildings on the street are very distinctive, a bit like Gothic style, which is particularly charming when matched with dead trees and dusk.

A must-visit place in Harbin, with different styles during the day and at night. Watch ice sculptures and eat sausages.

The entire road of Central Street is paved with square stones. The Russian-style buildings on both sides have been precipitated by time and have already carried traces of time. Accompanied by the "Katyusha" played by the roadside shops, the exotic experience is the best tone to start the trip to the Ice City.
If the weather is good, there will be many street performers, painting, playing instruments, singing, etc., which shows how lively it is.
Whether it is morning or evening, the bustling flow of people on Central Avenue remains unchanged.

Due to time constraints, we did not finish walking around Central Street. Because Central Street is full of shops selling Northeastern specialties, they are actually all the same, and you get tired of seeing them. There are occasionally some ice sculptures on the street, but they are nothing compared to the ones in the Ice and Snow World. Holding a Madiel popsicle and strolling along Central Street, I finally felt the reality of being in the north.
When I was walking on Central Avenue, I accidentally found chocolate with chili flavor. With my limited imagination, I couldn't imagine what it tasted like. Driven by curiosity, I bought a box to try it. It was no different from ordinary dark chocolate at first, but it felt a little spicy when I savored it. It didn't taste too strange, but it wasn't very delicious either. Anyway, I never touched it again. I bought it so I could take it back to play a prank on others.

The style, color and shape of the road signs on Central Avenue match the buildings on both sides, and the various texts also reflect the history of this street.

One thing you can't miss on Central Street is the food. Grilled sausages are everywhere on Central Street, with different prices, usually 10/piece. They are quite thick and taste pretty good.
Tanghulu is also everywhere on the streets, and you can try its icy and cool taste.
There are many shops selling Russian specialties on Central Street. There are a lot of Russian candies and chocolates, as well as two kilograms of black bread (although I don’t think it tastes good hahaha). You can still try the chocolate.
There are also many shops selling handicrafts. Russian nesting dolls are probably available in every shop. A set costs from dozens to hundreds. They are very interesting and come in many styles.

I like the buildings and stone roads along Central Avenue, which are particularly European in style. I have always thought that it would be beautiful if it snowed on Central Avenue during Christmas.

Central Street is actually a commercial street with Russian-style architecture. It sells local specialties and has some famous restaurants. We went there just for the food.

The night view is really beautiful! Find someone to share a meal with~

Of course, you have to go to Central Street. In fact, the atmosphere is similar. Every tourist city has a bustling street. The only difference is the architectural style. You can see the buildings during the day, and the lights are also quite beautiful at night.

A commercial pedestrian street, integrating commerce, restaurants and hotels. There are many time-honored delicacies such as Madiel popsicles, Qiulin Liados red sausage, black bread, Dongfang Dumpling King, Laochang spring pancakes, Huamei Western Restaurant, etc. You can walk along Central Street to the bank of Songhua River. Tourists come and go on the street every day, and the same is true at night.

It's very lively at night and the scenery is beautiful. There are all kinds of delicious food in many alleys of Central Street, such as Northeastern cuisine, spicy hot pot, Korean food, Russian food, etc. You can choose whatever you like. There are many, delicious and not expensive.

It's ok, don't buy anything casually, it might be fake!!!

I went for a walk at night and ate popsicles on the street in minus 20 degrees Celsius. It was definitely a super cool experience.

For people in the south, it is very fresh and unique. Where can you find ice sculptures in the south?

The commercial street scene also has its own characteristics. There are ice sculptures all around, which is very suitable for taking photos. There are also many snack shops. Just walk along Central Street and you will reach the bank of the Songhua River.

There are indeed many Russian-style buildings, all of which are very beautiful. This time I finally took a satisfactory photo. There are many ice sculptures on Central Street. They are also very lifelike.

Every city has a similar pedestrian street. The Central Street is quite lively, with many shops selling snacks and specialties. Some shops even specially hire beautiful Russian girls as clerks.

This is the most prosperous place in Harbin. I think it is worth a visit.

Harbin's Central Street is not only an old street and a pedestrian street, but also an architectural art exhibition street. It has a century-old cultural heritage, a unique European style, enduring legendary stories, and a charming night scene full of lights and colors.

It is very pleasant to walk, appreciate, shop and enjoy the food on Central Avenue, a street full of exotic architecture.

There are fewer people in the morning, and this ancient street is of relatively high quality.

We are usually not active on the pedestrian streets of our own city, but we will walk on the pedestrian streets of other cities~ This is my summary of pedestrian streets. But I have to say that there are very few pedestrian streets in China where I can walk twice a day. Central Street is an exception.
It was once thought that Central Avenue was short and was just one of thousands of streets, but in fact, Central Avenue is very long and has stretched for a century.

Central Street is the most famous street in Harbin. The scenery here is even more beautiful when it snows. There are many snacks.

A place you can't stay in enough, a place you want to come again! Recommended.

The evening on Central Avenue is very beautiful, and we also saw the sunset glow.

When we arrived at Central Avenue...hmm. Chunxi Road, Jiefangbei, Nanjing Road and many other old commercial areas in the city suddenly came to our minds.
What I am interested in are the magical ice sculptures and Madiel popsicles.

There is nothing special about it, just a pedestrian street near the river. You can read my travel notes for details.
Central Street starts from the Songhua River Flood Control Memorial Tower in the north and ends at Jingwei Street in the south. It is 1,450 meters long and 21.34 meters wide. The square stone road for vehicles is 10.8 meters wide. Walking on this exotic street on the rectangular breadstones, it feels like returning to Harbin a hundred years ago, eating an authentic Madiel popsicle, and having lunch at Huamei Western Restaurant to taste Western food.
