The Flood Control Memorial Tower was built to commemorate the victory over the devastating flood of 1957. The 1957 flood threatened Harbin, with the water level exceeding the peak of the 1932 flood by 0.58 meters. The people of Harbin overcame the flood attack and built this tower in 1958 to commemorate the victory.
The tower consists of a cylindrical tower and an attached semicircular cloister. Standing 22.5 meters tall, its stone base symbolizes the strength and indestructibility of the levee. The fountain at its base symbolizes the courage and wisdom of the Harbin people in taming the turbulent river into a steady stream that benefits the people, eliminates disasters, and brings happiness. The two-tiered pool at the base of the tower: the lower step represents an elevation of 119.72 meters, marking the highest water level when Harbin was engulfed by floodwaters in 1932; the upper step represents an elevation of 120.30 meters, marking the highest water level when the city triumphed over the devastating flood in 1957. The Romanesque cloister, 7 meters high and magnificent in its harmony, features 20 columns connected by a band at the top, forming a 35-meter-long semicircular cloister. This symbolizes the unbreakable strength of the Harbin people in the 20th century and the rock-solid levee. The tower's body is decorated with reliefs depicting the vivid scenes of the victory over the flood. The top of the tower is a round sculpture composed of images of workers, peasants, soldiers and intellectuals, depicting the heroic images of those who defeated the flood.

The Harbin Flood Control Victory Memorial Tower was completed on October 1, 1958, to commemorate the Harbin people's victory over the "1957 Flood." It was designed by former Soviet architect Bagis Zhelev and Lee Kuan Yew, a second-generation architect from Harbin Institute of Technology. The site was determined by then-Harbin Mayor Lü Qien. The Harbin Flood Control Victory Memorial Tower is currently the youngest Class-A listed building in Harbin since its founding. The tower consists of a three-dimensional tower and an attached corridor. Standing 22.5 meters tall, its stone base symbolizes the strength and indestructibility of the levee. The fountain in front of the tower's base bears witness to the courageous and resourceful Harbin citizens taming the turbulent river into a steady stream, bringing benefits and eliminating disasters for the benefit of the people.

There was a particularly large flow of people here, many taking photos in front of the tower. Even more people were seen on the Songhua River directly across from the tower, all enjoying themselves and enjoying the winter heat. Directly in front of the tower was the commercial street, with shopping malls, department stores, and food stalls.
The memorial tower at night is in the downtown area and is crowded with people. Everyone is releasing lanterns on the ice and making New Year's wishes.

The People's Flood Control Victory Memorial Tower is located on the picturesque south bank of the Songhua River, on the river bank of Daoli District, Harbin City, at the terminal square of Central Avenue.

When you come to Harbin, you will basically check in at the People's Flood Control Victory Memorial Tower. Whether you visit during the day or at night, I still recommend you come at night. When the lights are on, it is much more beautiful than during the day.

The Flood Control Memorial Tower means you have arrived at the Songhua River. You can sit on the steps and feel the river breeze, and feel the northeastern evening and sunset. It is very beautiful and comfortable.

Located on the bank of the Songhua River, if you walk along Central Avenue to the end, you will see the Flood Control Memorial Tower standing in the terminal square. It was built to commemorate the people of Harbin’s victory over the devastating flood in 1957.

Stroll left from the Hanting Hotel where I stayed to reach the Flood Control Memorial Tower. The bus stop along the way is quite unique. Of course, I've passed it numerous times in the past two weeks. I spotted the large clock from afar; it has a very European, classical style. The retro green bus shelter and the clock are a perfect match, haha.
Walk straight to the traffic light. On the left is Central Avenue, and on the right is Wanda Plaza. The landmark People's Flood Control Memorial Tower is here, as is Stalin Park. The memorial square is packed with people: some singing, some flying kites, some taking photos, some setting up small stalls... The memorial tower looks even better at night. Ahead is the expansive Songhua River. The famous Songhua River! I finally saw it in its true form. It's vast and wide. To the right, I can see the Songhua River Binzhou Railway Bridge, and boats are docked on the shore. The first time I walked along the river, the wind was a bit chilly, and the temperature was around 15 degrees Celsius. But now that the sun is out, I don't feel too cold. It's just a bit windy, and my hair hasn't been done up yet.

It can be regarded as one of the landmarks of Harbin. It is said to be designed jointly by the Soviet Union and the Chinese. Although it was designed jointly, there are very few Chinese elements. There are statues of workers, peasants, soldiers and intellectuals on the top, and reliefs of flood control below, and a Roman-style corridor at the back.
There was an ice and snow carnival on the Songhua River below, so there were a lot of people.
The carnival charges by item, basically 50, if you play all of them, it will probably be more expensive than the Ice and Snow World. There is ice skating to the west.

This is a monumental landmark, right on the riverbank.

My friend went there, I didn’t go alone, so we all had free time in Harbin!

The memorial tower has a very clean shape and is located in Stalin Park on the bank of the Songhua River. It is just at the end of Central Avenue.

This is a very commemorative building. It has become a landmark of Harbin. It is magnificent and spectacular.

Located at one end of Central Avenue, there is a Riverside Square, which is a place for Harbin citizens to relax and have fun.

Located at the end of Central Street, it is mainly used to commemorate ~

I went there a few years ago, it's a local monument.

Unfortunately, it was under renovation when I went there, so I could only watch from afar.

The lighting at night is very beautiful, but it doesn’t look too eye-catching during the day.

Check-in attractions are much more beautiful at night than during the day.

Harbin's city landmark. Taking photos here always means you have been to Harbin.

The monument is at the end of Central Street and you can check it out.

I always thought that the Flood Control Memorial Tower was built to commemorate the flood in the summer of 1998, but a local friend told me that the Flood Control Memorial Tower was actually built to commemorate the devastating flood in 1957. It is said that the water level was as high as 120 meters at the worst time of that flood, and the portraits on the Flood Control Memorial Tower are based on the three high school students who died in that flood.
I can't help but sigh that water and fire are merciless. In the face of the power of nature, humans are really insignificant.

In 1957, after the heroic and courageous people of Harbin triumphed over a devastating flood, they built a tower to commemorate their victory. It was named the Flood Control Memorial Tower. The complex consists of a tower and a Roman-style cloister. Reliefs on the tower depict the victory over the flood, and atop it is a statue of the heroes who built the flood control embankment. Today, it remains a famous Harbin attraction.

At the end of Central Avenue there is a flood control memorial tower, which is on the bank of the Songhua River.

The Harbin Flood Control Victory Memorial Tower is also one of the landmarks. Walking north from Central Avenue, there is a large square on the bank of the Songhua River. Even in winter, there are still many tourists here, and the night view at night is also nice.

A landmark, at the end of Central Avenue, with the Songhua River on the other side and Stalin Park next door. You can walk them all at once.

The biggest highlight of the Songhua River is the fountain behind the Flood Control Memorial Tower. It feels like several stories high, and the water mist emits a very pure rainbow color~~ Passersby all took out their mobile phones to record it.

It's at the end of Central Avenue, just a short stroll away. It's right next to Stalin Park, and in winter, there's an ice and snow world.

At night, I just watched from a distance. There were many tourists, and they seemed to be building various ice sculptures.

Next to Stalin Park, arrived at night, not very impressed!

On the bank of the Songhua River, walk straight from Central Avenue, pass through the underground passage, and go up to the Flood Control Memorial Tower.

The Songhua River is a vital part of Harbin people's lives. They cannot live without it; the Songhua River is their mother river. They also fight against the Songhua River and erected a flood-fighting monument on the riverside.

I thought it was a thing? I saw many people taking pictures, so I took one too.

It is one of Harbin's landmark buildings. It was built in 1958 to commemorate the heroes who fought against the devastating flood in 1957. It is located at the north end of Central Avenue. There are Stalin Park, Binjiang Railway Bridge and other attractions around it. There are fountains in summer. Photo exhibitions, concerts and other activities are often held in front of the square. It is one of the check-in places.

When I went there, I happened to see the Black Panthers practicing slogans.

It's right by the river, you will definitely see it when you go there. You can read my travel notes for details.

At the north end of Central Avenue, on the bank of the Songhua River, it is worth a look at the illuminated buildings after dark.

The Flood Control Memorial Tower is a memorial tower as its name suggests. It may not be so beautiful in terms of scenery, but what is more important is the story behind it. However, this memorial tower is close to the Songhua River, and the frozen Songhua River is really beautiful.

Flanked by Sun Island and the Ice and Snow World to the north and directly connected to Central Avenue to the south, it is a popular destination for both locals and tourists seeking relaxation and entertainment. As the saying goes, every city has a People's Square, but Harbin lacks one, yet it does have the Flood Control Memorial Tower.

Located in the center of Stalin Park, just walk along Central Avenue to the end and you will reach it. It was built to commemorate the flood relief efforts in Harbin in 1957. It is worth a visit.

It's just a short walk from Central Avenue. The square has a fountain at night, which makes the night view even better. It's just a monument, nothing special.

A square at the end of Central Street. Very nice. Red flags fluttering.

If the weather is bad, there is definitely not much to see in this place. You can still take good photos against the blue sky and white clouds. It is at the end of Central Street.

Walking west to the end of Central Avenue, it stands on the bank of the Songhua River. It is also a nice view to merge with the Songhua River in Stalin Park.

A landmark on the bank of the Songhua River. It is not a tourist attraction, but you can learn some historical knowledge about the Songhua River floods.

Follow the crowd and walk along Central Avenue, and you will arrive at the Flood Control Memorial Tower!
When you arrive at the Flood Control Memorial Tower, you will arrive at the bank of the Songhua River!

This is a place with more meaning than scenery. It seems that every big city in the Northeast has a memorial tower. The square is often occupied by various activities. When we went there, a concert was being held.

At the end of Central Avenue, where it meets the Songhua River, stands the Flood Control Memorial Tower. It's easy to spot on the way there, so you don't have to make any special trips. It's worth a visit to commemorate those heroes. (I always forget to take photos when I go during the day...)

Walking all the way to the end of Central Avenue is the People's Flood Control Memorial Tower.
Well, this place is really a scenic spot that can be seen at a glance. It is a scenic spot that you can check in while you are there!
We just took a walk after dinner and then came to see this tower and then went to the Songhua River. Unfortunately, the iron bridge across the river was a bit far, so we didn't go.

The memorial tower consists of a three-dimensional tower body and an attached corridor.

I originally wanted to take a photo standing right in front of the tower, but the lady who was taking photos for tourists said I couldn't do that, saying people shouldn't carry the tower on their backs. Behind the tower is the Songhua River, and to the right is Stalin Park.

This memorial hall is somewhat similar to the Black Death Calvary in Linz Square, Austria. As expected of Harbin, even the monument is European-style.

After all, it's a historically significant attraction, so I definitely recommend it. It's located right on the south bank of the Songhua River, close to Stalin Park and the port for crossing to Sun Island. Taking a boat across the river is also a great option in the summer!
On the banks of the Songhua River, a tall memorial tower stands in the Flood Control Memorial Square. Built by Harbin to commemorate the city's victory over the devastating flood of 1957, the tower comprises a main body, fountain, and corridor. Its base is constructed of sturdy, granite rubble. A relief sculpture in the center of the tower depicts heroes involved in flood control and embankment construction, telling the world about the heroic efforts of those who fought in the flood control effort. A circular sculpture of workers, peasants, and intellectuals crowns the tower. Behind the tower, a Romanesque corridor, formed by 20 7-meter-tall columns forming an arc, accentuates the monument's grandeur.

The Flood Control Memorial Tower commemorates the flood on August 22, 1998. Nature forces us to understand how small and yet how powerful we are!

It looks great from all angles and is worth experiencing carefully

Harbin is very cold, and the perceived temperature is much colder than Jilin. If you take out your phone and leave it for a while, it will freeze and shut down, so there are relatively few photos left. You can go down to the river and cross the river at the flood control memorial tower. Across the river is the island of the Ice and Snow World. My mother and I walked the whole way. There are ice and snow projects in the river, such as sledding, bobsleighing, snow rings, etc. It is very unique.

The Flood Control Memorial Tower standing on the Songhua River has a certain commemorative significance. Walking along Central Avenue to the end is the Songhua River and the Flood Control Memorial Tower.
