Heilongjiang Provincial Museum

The Heilongjiang Provincial Museum is a large, comprehensive provincial museum. Its name was inscribed by Mr. Guo Moruo in 1962. It serves as the central collection center for historical relics, artworks, and animal and plant specimens in Heilongjiang Province. Its collection currently encompasses over 110,000 items. Among its collections are Neolithic jade artifacts, Tang Dynasty Bohai gilt bronze and gold Buddha statues, and Jin Dynasty silk and clothing. Other valuable artifacts include a Late Cretaceous flat-headed duck-billed dinosaur unearthed from Longgu Mountain in Jiayin County, Heilongjiang Province, and three large fossil skeletons of a Quaternary woolly rhinoceros and mammoth, both dating back 20,000 years, collected from Qinggang County.
The main building of Heilongjiang Provincial Museum was built in 1906. It is a European Baroque-style building and is the site of the former Russian shopping mall.

This is a Russian building. The Heilongjiang Provincial Museum consists of three main exhibition halls: the Natural History Hall, the History Hall, and the Russian Overseas Chinese Hall. Each hall offers something to learn from. A piggy keychain I won by guessing a lantern riddle. The young chef took a sign and went to claim the prize, and I followed shortly after. My riddle was "波及厂内和外(guess a word)" (broadcast inside and outside the factory). I cautiously asked if it was the character for "weak" (weak) in "fatigue." The staff checked and confirmed I was right, and gave me the piggy keychain as my prize. The young chef asked if I looked it up on my phone. I said, "Who am I looking down on?" and then I explained why it was the character for "weak" (weak). I love this keychain. The Bohai Kingdom, a prosperous country in the East Sea. I've heard of it in history class for so long, and now I have a more comprehensive understanding of it. The Russian overseas Chinese section describes architecture: Architecture reflects a city's culture. Harbin has become a city of architectural art, blending Eastern and Western influences, ancient and modern.

A description of the Chinese Eastern Railway. The Chinese Eastern Railway served as both a tool for Tsarist Russia to invade China and a gateway for the spread of culture and advanced technology eastward. Working in isolation is not enough; we must embrace an open mindset, be eager to learn, be humble, and flourish, and the breeze will naturally follow.

A visit to the Heilongjiang Museum is a must-see for learning about local culture and history. Don't just rush through the museum and check out the popular check-in spots. Located near Guogeli Street, the museum boasts numerous exhibition halls, including some temporary ones. My favorite is the Sino-Russian Cultural Hall, which details Harbin's development from a railway intersection to a major city. The fossil hall features primitive fossils excavated in Northeast China. I can't even imagine how large a mammoth was; at 182cm tall, I could only reach the lower leg joint. After wandering around the museum for over an hour, I finally reached the Sino-Russian Hall! Perhaps influenced by Shenyang and my engineering background, I'm particularly drawn to this section of Northeast China's Sino-Russian cultural history, which represents the dawn of our country's industry. Northeast China once enjoyed a flourishing industrial landscape, supporting a significant portion of the heavy industry during times of national crisis and the early years of the People's Republic. While the government is currently promoting the revitalization of old industrial areas, those vibrant times are no longer apparent.

I wonder how a typewriter from the last century feels compared to a mechanical keyboard. Aristocrats and upper-class people danced to piano music in front of the fireplace at night. A typical Russian aristocratic woman's dressing table in her room, along with items typical of the era: large-wheeled bicycles, sleds, and hand trucks.

Heilongjiang Provincial Museum is located in Nangang District, Harbin City. It was built in 1906. The main building is a European Baroque building. It is the site of the former Russian Emporium and is a national first-class protected building. Heilongjiang Provincial Museum was founded in 1923 and is one of the few comprehensive museums with a long history in my country. The natural display area in the museum is 1,250 square meters. It consists of two parts: ancient animals and modern animals, and exhibits more than 1,200 specimens. Heilongjiang Provincial Museum is a provincial comprehensive museum. It is the center for Heilongjiang Province to collect historical relics, artworks, and animal and plant specimens. It is also an important place to promote local history, culture and natural resources. The bronze sitting dragon in the museum is a national treasure and is listed as a national first-class product. The Heilongjiang Provincial Museum, a national first-class museum, is a comprehensive museum dedicated to collecting, preserving, researching, and displaying Heilongjiang's history, culture, natural resources, and artwork. It features a primary exhibition, including "Harbin's Past: Social Life in Harbin in the Early 20th Century," and temporary exhibitions.

By Baili Creek |

The Heilongjiang Provincial Museum (Old Building) is located at 50 Hongjun Street, Nangang District, Harbin. Built in 1906, it occupies the site of the former Harbin Moscow Emporium (the complex was designated a National Key Cultural Relic Protection Site in 2006). Currently, the museum features only a second-floor exhibition ("Harbin's Past: Social Life in Harbin in the Early 20th Century") and a first-floor temporary exhibition. Admission is free, and reservations must be made through the Heilongjiang Provincial Museum's WeChat official account. Admission is free based on the reservation time. Opening hours are 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM (last admission at 3:50 PM, closed on Mondays). The visit takes 1-2 hours. To get there, take Metro Line 1 or Line 2 to Museum Station.

I have been to many provincial museums. The Heilongjiang Provincial Museum is relatively small, with relatively few collections. It takes about an hour to visit. The main building is a European Baroque building, which is the site of the former Russian shopping mall.

Heilongjiang Provincial Museum: This is arguably the smallest provincial museum I've ever visited. Despite its size, the exhibition halls are quite informative. The Heilongjiang Historical Relics Exhibition Hall on the second floor is exceptionally well-designed. The exhibition provides a clear and comprehensive overview of Heilongjiang's historical evolution, particularly highlighting Harbin's rapid development during the Qing Dynasty, influenced by Russian culture. Many antique artifacts from that period are on display. My favorite is the Russian architectural model exhibition hall, where you can see models of various architectural styles. The museum's overall appearance is reminiscent of a European Baroque building, built on the site of a former Russian emporium. Be sure to visit if you have time. The statue opposite the museum's main entrance commemorates the former site of St. Nicholas Church.

Heilongjiang Provincial Museum is one of the largest and oldest museums in the three northeastern provinces.

There is a dinosaur exhibition hall on the second floor. Although it cannot be compared with the dinosaurs in Chongqing's Natural History Museum, it still has some highlights (such as the woolly rhinoceros). This is also the treasure of the museum and a national first-class protected specimen.

The first free tour starts at 09:30. The bronze sitting dragon is a national cultural relic, but it is a pity that the free tour only briefly mentions it. If you like history, you must ask an excellent tour guide to explain it.

On the last day of the Spring Festival holiday, you have to queue up at the door to get your tickets.

The underground floor is used for temporary exhibitions, such as butterfly and woodworking tool exhibitions during the Spring Festival. The atrium on the first floor is hung with lanterns.

The permanent exhibition mainly focuses on the historical evolution of Heilongjiang and cultural relics, with many cultural relics from the Bohai Kingdom.

There are also some exhibitions after the Russian invasion, including school supplies, life scenes, etc. at that time. There is an exhibition hall introducing modern architecture.

Heilongjiang Provincial Museum is now free to visit, and you can exchange your ID card for free tickets. If time permits, you may want to visit here, as there are many exhibits on display.

By Mr. Fu is a coffee cat |

The main purpose of coming here is to see some of the culture of the Qing Dynasty and the Russian exhibition hall. There are many rooms of Russian immigrants here, and their lives are also vividly displayed. The museum is small and shabby, and there is not much on display.

The Heilongjiang Provincial Museum is located in Harbin's Nangang District, not far from Harbin Railway Station. The main building, a European Baroque-style structure originally built as a Russian emporium in 1906, is now a Grade I National Protected Building. The museum is relatively small.

Looking back at the past and understanding the present, Harbin is a modern immigrant city that prospered along the road. The influx of Russian immigrants led to cultural integration and architectural features, which have a unique charm. Goodbye.

A place recommended by friends, a good place to learn about the history of Heilongjiang, worth a visit

Generally, provincial museums should be rated four stars at the very least, but the Heilongjiang Museum may make the locals feel ashamed. It doesn't matter that there are not many exhibits. Museums like Guizhou and Jilin can make up for it through video materials and venue layout design after moving to new buildings, highlighting the characteristics of the local ethnic group. Good or bad, it was once the birthplace of the Jin Dynasty and the Qing Dynasty, but this museum is located in a corner. The exhibits are sometimes from the Natural History Museum and sometimes on loan from the Shaanxi History Museum. The layout is very messy. I hope there will be improvements in the future.

By Say something to yourself |

The Heilongjiang Provincial Museum, formerly the Moscow Market, was built in 1906. It consists of two main sections. The first displays Heilongjiang's historical relics, focusing on the remains of the Sushen people, and explains the ethnic development from the Sushen to the Mohe, Jurchen, and Manchu. This section is brief due to the limited collection of artifacts. The second section features cultural relics from the Russian diaspora in Heilongjiang. The opening of the Middle East Railway fostered a cultural fusion of Chinese and Western influences in Heilongjiang. The exhibition showcases urban development, commerce, education, architecture, and art, providing a rich and engaging complement to the region's ancient civilization.

By Guoguo |

A European Baroque building, the former site of the Russian Emporium, is now a national Grade I protected building. It is like a centenarian who has experienced many vicissitudes of life, witnessing the historical changes of the Heilongjiang Provincial Museum.

You can exchange your ID card for a ticket. This provincial museum may be the only one in the country that uses ceiling fans for temperature control. It has three floors. The basement level currently houses a turtle and carpentry exhibition. The two floors above ground offer a detailed account of Heilongjiang Province's development from ancient times, including the late Ming and early Qing dynasties.

By Let go |

Why would I need to use my ID card to get a ticket outside the museum and then use it to enter the museum when I can enter directly with my ID card? Is it to ensure that there is a place to exchange tickets? It just adds to the waiting time.

The museum itself is a historical building. It is the only provincial museum I have visited that does not have central air conditioning (municipal museums also have central air conditioning). It relies on electric fans and a few vertical air conditioners for cooling, which really doesn't work in the summer.

The exhibits are average, consistent with the province's historical significance. From the Spring and Autumn Period to the Qing Dynasty, the area flourished primarily during the Liao and Jin dynasties (mostly due to plundering resources and burials). The few valuable historical relics were looted during the invasions of Tsarist Russia and Japan. Ancient trade was also scarce in this area, largely uninhabited. How much wealth could exiled prisoners carry with them? Qing Dynasty royal family members secretly mined gold and ginseng here, and their wealth was transported back to the interior.

The exhibition on Tsarist Russia was excellent. After all, Heilongjiang didn't appear on the world stage until after 1900. Its history, you could say, really began then. The exhibition on Deng Sanmu's work was also excellent; a peak like this will never be seen again.

By Violet |

The museum can be reached directly by subway and is very close to Qiulin Company.

The museum has three floors, two above ground and one underground.

The first floor recommends the Russian overseas Chinese cultural relics exhibition;

The second floor is for the display of Heilongjiang historical relics and natural exhibits;

The underground area has special exhibitions for winter and summer vacations, and one county special exhibition per month.

You exchange your ID for a ticket at the entrance. The tour of the third floor takes about two hours. Due to regional reasons, the exhibits are not very extensive. There are free guided tours every hour, which allow you to learn about the characteristics of ethnic minorities.

By RYAN |

No entrance fee required, just exchange your ID for a ticket. When planning my trip, I saw most reviews that it was average. But I personally thought it was okay. The temporary exhibition on the basement level featured frogs, insects, and carving tools. The frogs were manageable, but the insects were too much for me. Afterwards, I went upstairs to see the exhibits of Heilongjiang historical relics and some preserved artifact specimens. If you have plenty of time, it's worth a visit.

By Super Jing Jing Jing ✨ |

Heilongjiang Provincial Museum is probably the smallest of all the museums I have visited. It can be visited in about ten minutes. There are not many exhibits inside, and they are all some basic geographical knowledge. It is located one stop away from Harbin Railway Station.

I had no plans on the day of my departure, so I decided to go on a whim. I'd read online that the museum was quite small, and while it certainly wasn't very big, I felt it contained quite a variety of things. There were Siberian tigers, some Russian artifacts, and mammoth fossils. I thought it was small but comprehensive. I personally enjoyed it, and it was a pleasant surprise.

By Witch Beans |

As a native Harbin native, I took my child to a museum for the first time after I had him. I feel ashamed.

The museum is divided into three parts: nature, humanities (it seems that it basically does not talk about the history of Heilongjiang, but mainly about the dynasties of China), and Russian culture.

The venue is small and the local characteristics are not prominent. It can be regarded as a supplementary attraction.

Please note that we are closed on Mondays, invoices will stop after 3 o'clock, and we will close at 4:30.

There is a mink fur dragon robe in the museum that refreshed my understanding. Haha... fur was popular in the past~

The museum is quite small and introduces the history of Heilongjiang and the culture of Russian immigrants. It is also worth a visit.

By Marilyn Cute Rabbitଓ |

It's worth a visit, as it's the former Russian Market. You only need your ID card, no tickets required, but you have to go before 3:00.

By Spirit |

Since Heilongjiang Province wasn't historically part of the Central Plains, its collection of cultural relics certainly can't compare to museums in Shaanxi and Henan. But I'm a museum buff, and since I've come all this way, it's a provincial museum, so why not take a look around? The museum displays a wealth of fascinating items related to Russian expatriate culture. In the musical instrument section, there's even a large screen showing the ballet "Swan Lake."

By Zhuang Chen |

From the Harbin Railway Museum, walk east along Xidazhi Street to the nearby Heilongjiang Provincial Museum. Founded in 1906, the main building is a European Baroque-style structure, formerly the site of a Russian emporium.

The Heilongjiang Provincial Museum's exhibitions are divided into regular and temporary displays, showcasing 40,000 years of human history and culture in the Heilongjiang region, with a focus on prehistoric culture, Bohai culture, and Jinyuan culture. It also features a selection of plant and animal specimens. While the museum itself is modest, it's worth a look if you're interested in the region's history.

By KE&NAI |

After entering the museum and scanning my ID card, I was given a ticket. When it came time to check in, they took the ticket back and didn't even give me a souvenir. Such stingy people from Northeast China, shrug~

Compared with museums with richer collections, the collections are not very large, but they are all quite distinctive. Moreover, after the renovation, it has a retro feel and the architecture is also worth seeing.

By Liu Lianwangfan |

You can get a free ticket with your ID card, but as many people have said, the things inside are too shabby for a provincial museum. The exhibits are not rich, the space is too small, and the layout is unreasonable.

By Getaway |

Overall, it feels a bit small and not very attractive. It is not on the same level as the Fujian Provincial Museum I visited. An hour is enough to visit it.

By The wind is silent |

As a free attraction, it is very good.

By Old records :) |

Although it is known as the worst provincial museum in the country, its numerous authentic collections introduce the history and development of Harbin in a detailed, vivid and three-dimensional way, allowing you to travel through history as if you were experiencing Harbin from ancient times to the present!

It is also the most friendly museum I have ever visited. The museum and the building make your visit very relaxing. There are no restrictions on taking photos, and the security guards do not have that aggressive look. Many exhibits are almost zero distance from visitors, but everyone is also very conscious and does not reach out to touch them!

Many photos have not been exported. I will upload them slowly.

It looks very ordinary on the surface, but after entering, I found that this museum itself is a cultural relic.

The old Heilongjiang Provincial Museum, founded in 1906, boasts a Baroque-style main building, originally located on the site of a former Russian emporium. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, it became one of the first provincial-level comprehensive public welfare museums in China to integrate historical relics, natural specimens, and artworks. However, compared to other provincial museums, it is still relatively small. However, the Qunli branch of the Provincial Museum has been built in Qunli, highlighting the Jinyuan culture and the civilization of the Songhua River Basin.

By I am a cloud |

Since I live near the museum, of course I have to stop by the Heilongjiang Provincial Museum. As a provincial museum, the Heilongjiang Provincial Museum is really small, but it is an old historical building and is still quite precious.

By White Tiger Snow Fury |

The provincial museum has the worst exhibits. The exhibits are extremely poor, with only a small number of Russian cultural relics that are barely worth seeing. All the cultural relics inside may not be as wonderful as the museum building itself.

By Time Walk |

It's relatively small. There are some dinosaur and lizard exhibitions inside. It's more like a natural history museum. There's no need to go there specifically. If you are close, you can take a look.

The museum opened at 9:00 AM, and I arrived at the Heilongjiang Provincial Museum. Because it's located on Red Army Street, it's also known as the Red Museum. The museum is incredibly small, with much of it occupied by souvenir vendors. It took me just 40 minutes to explore it all. On the west side of the second floor, the first exhibit focuses on dinosaurs. On the east side, a large section focuses on the development of Russian culture in Heilongjiang (particularly Harbin). Another section focuses on the rise of the Jurchens during the Jin Dynasty between the White Mountains and the Black Waters. On the first floor, a small section features an exhibition of works by Yu Zhixue. The basement level houses temporary exhibition halls, showcasing the ethnic customs and traditions of various regions in Heilongjiang.

The Heilongjiang Provincial Museum, founded in 1906, was originally the Moscow Market. Its exhibits primarily include fossils of ancient people from Wuchang, hadrosaur fossils, mammoth fossils, Jin Dynasty silk textiles, and various artworks, which are regularly exhibited. The museum is completely free and is about 3 kilometers from Harbin Railway Station. I volunteered at the Heilongjiang Museum twice, and during my time there, I saw many parents and children come to the volunteer tours to help the children develop their communication skills.

This small museum is quite a bit of a challenge to find, but despite its small size, it's incredibly well-equipped. I received my free ticket with my ID, and I wanted to keep it as a souvenir, but they took it back at the entrance. The museum has many exhibits related to Russian culture, making it a great place to explore the cultural fusion between Heilongjiang and Russia.

By Mr. Bit |

When you come to a provincial capital, you must visit the Provincial Museum.

The main building of the Heilongjiang Museum is a European Baroque-style structure, formerly the site of a Russian emporium and a Class I National Protected Building. However, the museum's contents are relatively poor compared to others I've visited. It's not very large, with only three floors, and the first floor also houses a calligraphy gallery. The content isn't very informative either. I was particularly interested in the Mongolian exhibit, but I forgot about it after I got home. The rest of the exhibits were mostly about animals, dinosaurs, and the like, which I wasn't particularly interested in.

The Heilongjiang Museum is quite close to Dongdazhi Street and Gogol Street. We went there after visiting the Provincial Museum.

By Cancer⚓ |

It's very small and there aren't many exhibitions inside, but the section about Russian expatriates is worth seeing, and there's a lot of classic Russian music to listen to.

By Wake up and fall asleep without knowing it |

The museum is located at the intersection of Hongjun Street and Xidazhi Street, with the museum subway station and bus stop nearby. It's only one stop away from Harbin Railway Station, or about a ten-minute walk, making transportation very convenient. Further northeast, just one block leads to Qiulin Company, which is Gogol Street. There's also the Heilongjiang Liaojin History Museum, though admission is required.

The museum's main building, a Baroque-style structure, occupies the former site of the Russian Emporium. Its entrance is unassuming, with a few small shops still nearby. It seems rather shabby for a provincial museum; a new one is reportedly under construction. In front of the museum stands the Soviet Liberation Monument, commemorating the Soviet Red Army martyrs who sacrificed their lives in liberating Northeast China. It's worth a visit.

Tickets can be obtained for free at the small hut in front of the museum gate with valid ID. I thought I would keep it as a souvenir, but I didn’t expect the ticket inspector to take it away. It can be recycled.

The museum is mainly divided into three floors:

The first floor is the entrance and lounge, plus a Heilongjiang Cultural Relics Store and a personal exhibition hall. The items in the Cultural Relics Store are all clearly marked with prices, and they should be the kind that can be resold. I went there during the New Year's Day. The personal exhibition hall was hosting Yu Zhixue's art exhibition, and the theme at the time was "Ink Rhythm, Ice Soul, and Northern Feelings." It was said that his ice and snow landscape paintings filled the gap in traditional painting techniques that could not directly paint snow and ice. I felt it was quite amazing, but the expression of Alaska in one of his paintings was simply amazing. If you can find it, please look for it. I forgot to take a picture.

On the underground floor, two of the four exhibition halls are open, and the other two have no exhibitions. They mainly introduce the historical and cultural development of Heilongjiang region in history, mainly focusing on cultural relics, combined with text and graphic explanations.

On the second floor, there are two large exhibition halls on the left and right. One is the natural exhibition hall, which displays the living environment of organisms through specimens, simulated ecological landscapes and murals. However, at the end of this hall, there are some boxes on display, and I don’t know why; the other is the historical exhibition hall, which should be the Baishan Heishui Saker Falcon. It mainly introduces the historical and cultural evolution during the period of Sino-Soviet integration, and many of the displays are Soviet-style items.

Overall, the Heilongjiang Provincial Museum is relatively modest among provincial museums, due to its historical and cultural evolution. It certainly can't be compared with the Shanxi Museum or the Shaanxi History Museum, but its unique culture is still worth a look, and the tour lasts about an hour. Waiting for the new Heilongjiang Provincial Museum to open may be another experience.

For such a tourist attraction, we should introduce that it is free.

Free admission does not mean free admission. There are not many cultural relics on display in the museum. Unlike the cultural relics in the Central Plains, which are diverse, exquisite and luxurious, there are only hunting and fishing tools of ethnic minorities, as well as an exhibition on the diplomatic history of China with the Soviet Union during World War II.

The collection is too small, with only three exhibition halls. There is a guided tour at 9:30, but I waited until 10:00 and still no one was there. There is only one mythical beast that I feel is the treasure of the museum.

I heard that a new museum is being built on Sun Island. Let’s look forward to it.

I think the tourists who come to Harbin are all here for the title of Ice City, and want to see the northern scenery and ice lanterns and snow sculptures. There is no need to waste time in places like museums. What's more, Heilongjiang does not have a long history except that it was first occupied during the Japanese invasion of China. That's why the museum is so small. It is located in the prosperous area of Nangang, upstream of the railway station. This place is completely a local activity area and not a tourist area, so it is not recommended.

The appearance is quite artistic, but it is still inferior to museums in Xi'an.

Take your ID card to the small house opposite the museum to exchange for a free ticket and you can enter. There is one underground floor and two above-ground floors.

The Heilongjiang Provincial Museum is located in the south of Harbin's downtown area, directly south of Harbin Railway Station. While the Harbin Museum occupies a small area, its most distinctive feature is its location in a historic Russian-style building, built in 1904 as the Moscow Market. Free admission is available at the entrance to the Heilongjiang Museum. The museum is divided into two main floors. The first floor houses thematic exhibitions by artists. On the left side of the second floor are exhibits showcasing Heilongjiang's archaeological and historical relics, as well as Russian-inspired culture and heritage. On the right side is the Heilongjiang Natural History Museum, showcasing specimens of wild animals, including Siberian tigers, and the region's natural landscape. The Heilongjiang Museum is relatively small and can be fully explored in half an hour. A bus stop and parking are available at the entrance, making it very convenient to access.

The Provincial Museum is not very big, but it also reflects the natural history and culture of Heilongjiang Province in a relatively comprehensive way. It is worth visiting if you have time.
