In winter, Jingpo Lake is completely frozen, its thick surface crisscrossed with white cracks. It was actually quite impressive. After all, I'm from the south, so you know what I'm talking about. Anyway, the temperature here is too low to be outdoors for extended periods of time. My hands were practically frozen.

Located southwest of Mudanjiang City, Jingpo Lake is the world's largest volcanic lava barrier lake and one of my country's northernmost freshwater lakes. It freezes over in late November and doesn't melt until April of the following year. The ice can reach a thickness of 70 centimeters. It's absolutely stunning to drive across it!

According to geological analysis, between 4,700 and 8,300 years ago, this area experienced intense and frequent crustal movement, resulting in five episodes of intense volcanic activity. As the lava cooled, it formed a massive dam, blocking the upper reaches of the Mudanjiang River and forming Jingpo Lake, the largest alpine barrier lake in China and the second largest in the world. Jingpo Lake is slightly S-shaped, resembling a dragon on a map. The lake is approximately 45 kilometers long and about 6 kilometers wide at its widest point. On June 2, 2019, I took a bus from the Jingpo Lake Tourist Distribution Center next to Mudanjiang Railway Station at 9:30. There was another bus a little earlier at 7:30, with a round trip fare of 50 per person (only round trip tickets were sold). I think I got off at the entrance of Jingpo Lake Scenic Area at around 11 o'clock, and got on the bus back from the entrance of the scenic area at 4 o'clock in the afternoon.

Buy a ticket at the entrance of Jingpo Lake Scenic Area for 100 yuan per person. A sightseeing bus will take you directly to the pier, where the main attractions are concentrated. You can also walk a few minutes to the waterfall and buy a sightseeing bus ticket from there to the pier. From the pier, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the lake and take a boat tour for 100 yuan per person. There's also a small temple, and then take the bus back from the pier.

Younger travelers with more energy can walk to the pier and return to the entrance by bus, or take the bus and walk back. You can walk across the lake bridge and enjoy the scenery along the way. Elderly travelers with children should still take the sightseeing bus. The one-way walk from the entrance to the pier takes about 40 minutes, which is quite tiring. However, it's not very interesting for young people to just take the bus and see the whole trip. Tickets can be purchased at the stop where you board the sightseeing bus.

Jingpo Lake, the Underground Forest, and the Grand Canyon are not located together. They each sell their own tickets, and you need to take a bus to travel between them. It's not worth having lunch at these scenic spots, so it's best to bring your own food when you go.

Students who like volcanic geological structures should go and see it. There are basalt landforms along the roadside on the way to the scenic area. It is very large and the scenic area has highlights!

The main scenic area of Jingpo Lake consists of Diaoshuilou Waterfall and Bailichang Lake, and a full tour takes approximately 4-5 hours. After purchasing a ticket for the main area, you'll need to register your fingerprint, which grants you two entries within 48 hours. Diaoshuilou Waterfall is Jingpo Lake's most famous attraction, and its roaring flow is breathtaking in the summer, especially after rain.

Jingpo Lake tickets are excellent, valid for two days. So after a daytime visit, you can re-enter the park at night with your ticket. Jingpo Lake has a night view, and the lights come on at different times depending on the darkness. We arrived a little after 7:00 AM, and it was pitch dark. We initially thought the lights were off. If you're after fish, the prices are reasonable, and there are options at all price points, so you can choose. Key complaints: 1. The ice cream inside the Jingpo Lake Scenic Area is 5 yuan a popsicle, which is 50 cents a popsicle outside—10 times more expensive. First of all, your attraction isn't located on the mountain. When I visited Huangshan, even the things porters carried to the top of the mountain weren't 10 times more expensive. 2. The sightseeing bus within the scenic area has been to many places, but I've never seen one that charges per stop. It's 12 yuan per trip, no matter where you go, and another 12 yuan to get to the next place. It's very expensive. The scenic area is huge, so walking isn't an option. 3. Mudanjiang's specialties are Korean bibimbap and cold noodles. When we arrived in Mudanjiang, we found a restaurant called Yalu River Nationalities Restaurant on Meituan. After eating there, all seven of us got food poisoning, vomiting and diarrhea. We even missed our planned trip to Chaihe's Little Jiuzhaigou. Travelers, don't eat there; getting sick and delaying your trip is not worth it. 4. Mudanjiang Tourism: Mudanjiang's Snow Village, despite its beautiful natural resources, has turned its reputation into a nationally known scam. People are terrified of it, and those who have been don't want to return, while those who haven't dared to go. Reputation is everything these days. We should think long-term and avoid one-off deals.

It's not worth traveling all the way to see it, but you can go there on the way. It's just a lake, which is too different from Qinghai Lake and Namtso Lake. It has no characteristics.

I wanted to go to Xuexiang before, but it was reported so much last year, and Jingpo Lake is like this again. It really makes people worry about tourism in Mudanjiang. The geographical location is remote, and it should actually impress others with service and environment. But after reading the comments from netizens carefully, there are really not many good things. Jingpo Lake Scenic Area, located 20 km southwest of Dongjingcheng Town in Ning'an City, Mudanjiang, is China's largest alpine barrier lake and the world's second-largest. Formed 5,000 years ago by lava from multiple volcanic eruptions blocking the ancient Mudanjiang River bed, it is a National Key Scenic Area, a World Geopark, and a 5A-rated tourist attraction. Along its banks are numerous natural attractions, including the "Outer Eight Scenic Spots" (Diaoshuilou Waterfall, Dagushan, Xiaogushan, Baishi Lazi, Chengqiang Lazi, Zhenzhumen, Taoist Mountain, and Laoqiao Lazi). Most visitors visit the core scenic areas of the northern section of the lake, including Jingpo Villa and Diaoshuilou Waterfall (entry and exit through the north gate takes 5-6 hours). Admission to the scenic area is 100 yuan per person (open 24 hours, valid for 48 hours), and electric carts are 12 yuan per person. Transportation: 1. There are buses running directly to the main scenic area from Mudanjiang Railway Station every day (departing in the morning and returning in the afternoon, one-way is about 25 yuan/person, and the journey takes about 2 hours). 2. Take a bus from Mudanjiang Long-distance Bus Station to Dongjingcheng Bus Station (13 yuan/person, the entire high-speed journey takes about 1 hour). From Dongjingcheng Bus Station, take a minibus to the north gate/east gate of the scenic area (10 yuan/person, 40 minutes). There are more buses for the two sections of Mudanjiang-Dongjingcheng and Dongjingcheng-North Gate of the scenic area. The whole journey takes about 2 hours (excluding waiting time).

The lake was particularly flooded this year, and the water on three sides was spectacular. The north gate was flooded, so you should use the east gate. The road to the underground forest was flooded, and the park was closed. I chartered a car from Mudanjiang for 550 yuan, including 60 yuan for tolls, and half-price admission for seniors and children.

I didn't find it worth the trip. It just looked like a large, monotonous lake, and the stilt house waterfall wasn't impressive. I chose the 100 yuan half-trip boat trip, which offered the same scenery throughout the hour-long cruise. There was no commentary, and I barely managed to spot the legendary Maogong. I felt that while Jingpo Lake may be important for geology and fisheries, it's not very touristic.

The scenery is okay, but the boat tickets are too expensive, there are few products in the scenic area, and the service is poor.

Jingpo Lake is very quiet and beautiful. When people come here, they will feel much calmer and the past will be just a cloud of smoke.

The moment I set foot on the rocky terrain of Jingpo Lake in Mudanjiang City, Heilongjiang Province, I was deeply struck by the wonders of nature. I admired not only the scenery but also a deep sense of awe for nature. This black lava didn't form overnight; it was formed over millions of years of crustal movement. Scientific research indicates that the Jingpo Lake area has experienced five major volcanic eruptions. The red-hot, flowing magma swept away all living things in its path, covering the fertile soil. Beneath the destructive volcanic magma, the rocky terrain of Jingpo Lake was lifeless for a very long time.

Jingpo Lake Scenic Area is worthy of being an AAAA scenic area. The scenery is very beautiful, and Diaoshuilou Waterfall is one of its important scenic spots.

The winter scenery of Jingpo Lake is the same as that of other lakes, except that we saw winter fishing here.

It is worth a visit to see China's largest volcanic lake. The ice waterfall is quite spectacular and the diving performance is also wonderful.

If the lake is frozen in winter, you can drive directly on it, watch winter fishing performances, and go to Diaoshuilou Waterfall for diving performances.

The icefall is quite unique. In winter, the rest of the scenic area is closed, so you can only see the icefall.

The snowmobiling was fantastic and the icefalls were stunning.

Apart from a waterfall, I don't think there is anything interesting to see.

Jingpo Lake in winter is like a mirror! You can walk on the frozen lake and feel the charm of winter!

It's beautiful. Even in winter, the ice is white. There are winter fishing activities to watch. The scenery is pretty good.

An hour before sunset, we passed Jingpo Lake and stopped to linger for twenty minutes. The ice and ground merged seamlessly, and if there weren't so many people on the ice, gazing out at the frozen lake would have been even more breathtakingly beautiful. PS: There's a massive waterfall in this area, incredibly beautiful. You need to buy a ticket to enter the scenic area. You can search online for it; it's truly a fairyland, but unfortunately, it wasn't on our itinerary.

Winter is the off-season for visiting Diaoshuilou Waterfall. In November, Jingpo Lake is not completely frozen, and standing on the ice is definitely a different experience.

The famous volcanic barrier lake and the most famous stilt house waterfall in Northeast China are must-see attractions when visiting Mudanjiang City.

Jingpo Lake Scenic Area is quite distinctive, worthy of being a 5A scenic area. The development within the scenic area is quite extensive, and the original ecological protection is also quite good.

Jingpo Lake Scenic Area has beautiful natural scenery and is a great place for a short vacation or leisurely travel.

It's okay, considering it's a 5A scenic area. Jingpo Lake is roughly the same size as Khanka Lake, with the addition of Qilin Mountain, but it doesn't boast the vastness of Khanka Lake or the majestic beauty of Qilin Mountain. The scenery is beautiful, the lake meanders through the mountains, and you can enjoy boat rides, and there are numerous islands you can visit. 500 meters from the north gate is the Diaoshuiqiao Waterfall, surrounded on three sides by water when the water is high. It's quite spectacular, and in the right season, someone known as China's first cliff diver will jump from the waterfall. The scenic area also boasts a volcanic crater underground forest, said to be over 10,000 years old. The entrance fee is definitely worth the 5A designation. You'd definitely take the 100-yuan boat trip, and stay in a hotel within the 100-yuan scenic area for at least 300 yuan. A day spent exploring the lake, a night, and then a day spent exploring the underground forest would cost over 500 yuan per person. (Of course, I didn't go; I returned after a day exploring the lake.) Overall, I think the scenery at Jingpo Lake is nice, but the exorbitant entrance fee isn't worth it.
