Jingpo Lake Scenic Area

Jingpo Lake was formed by a volcanic eruption thousands of years ago. It is the largest alpine barrier lake in China and the second largest in the world.
The scenic area is mainly divided into three areas: the main scenic area of Jingpo Lake, Jingpo Canyon, and the underground forest of the crater.
There are many natural attractions along both sides of the lake, including the "Outer Eight Scenic Spots". Diaoshuilou Waterfall is the most famous landscape of Jingpo Lake.
In summer, the water roars here, and you can also enjoy the diving performance of Di Huanran, China's first cliff diver.

In winter, Jingpo Lake is completely frozen, its thick surface crisscrossed with white cracks. The distance from the lakeshore to the winter fishing area is quite a distance, and the transportation is quite unusual: we sit on snow rings pulled by a tractor, racing across the ice, stirring up pieces of ice.

The ice is filled with bubbles, a vast expanse that looks spectacular. Staring at it for too long can create a sense of vertigo, much like gazing at the stars. The mysterious world beneath the ice is bottomless, and we've only just scratched the surface.

Jingpo Lake's winter fishing activity involves fishermen digging a hole in a corner of the ice, casting their nets, and then, once most tourists have arrived, pulling in the nets. It's a rather unusual activity, and it seems unlikely that anyone would come here independently unless arranged by a travel agency. A crowd of tourists gathered around, filming and taking photos, while some even took the liberties and posed for photos while pulling the nets themselves. Tragically, while taking photos, my mom accidentally let her phone slip from her pocket and slid right into the hole, sinking into the darkness and becoming food for the fish. My mom was immediately devastated, as not only were all the photos she'd taken the previous few days gone, but she'd also be left watching my dad and me stare blankly at our phones for the next few days.

Jingpo Lake: a national AAAAA-level tourist attraction, a world geological park, a national key scenic spot, an international ecotourism holiday resort, a national civilized scenic tourist area demonstration site, one of China's top ten leisure and tourist destinations, and the largest alpine barrier lake in China and the second largest in the world.

Jingpo Lake is located in Ning'an City, Heilongjiang Province, on the main stream of the Mudanjiang River, a tributary of the Songhua River, 50 kilometers from Ning'an City. The lake's surface is 351 meters above sea level, with an average depth of 40 meters. The water level typically reaches a high of 353 meters and a low of 345 meters. Its average annual flow rate is 9.2-10 cubic meters per second, and its storage capacity is 1.625 billion cubic meters. In addition to the Mudanjiang River, the lake is fed by smaller streams such as the Dalishugou River and the Erzhanxigou River. During the Tang Dynasty, the Mohe people, ancestors of the Manchus, called Jingpo Lake the Huhan Sea. During the Liao Dynasty, it was called the Puyan River. During the Jin Dynasty, it was called the Bilten Lake. In the early Qing Dynasty, the Ningguta River flowed into the lake, giving it the name Jingpo Lake because its waters are as reflective as a mirror.

Winter fishing is super fun~ Snow tubing, ice walking, Michael Jackson's moonwalk, and vast expanses of frozen lakes. For a southern girl's worldview, it's so novel~ Arrived at the southern end of Jingpo Lake~ It was my first time walking on the ice~ It was super slippery. At first, I needed the help of a tour guide. Later, I could play freely~ Lying on the ice was really comfortable~ The colorful snow tubing~ It looked so beautiful no matter how I took a picture~ So the guy in camouflage and holding a blue flag was our thoughtful guide Chen~ A tractor with oversized tires. The tires were wrapped with iron chains to prevent slipping. Then we set off at a rapid pace~ It looked so cool

~ But the wind was blowing, and the snow flying from the tires rubbing against the ice... It was so cold... When we finally arrived... I was about to become a snowman...

Next up was the highlight of the trip—winter fishing. It only lasted about five minutes... The girl with the DSLR was so into taking photos that she literally lay on the ice. Later, after falling, she even lay on the ice for a bit. It was hilarious—maybe it was just me being mesmerized—the entire lake was completely frozen. It was vast, and the view was amazing. It was actually quite impressive. After all, I'm from the south, so you know what I'm talking about. Anyway, the temperature here is too low to be outdoors for extended periods of time. My hands were practically frozen.

Located southwest of Mudanjiang City, Jingpo Lake is the world's largest volcanic lava barrier lake and one of my country's northernmost freshwater lakes. It freezes over in late November and doesn't melt until April of the following year. The ice can reach a thickness of 70 centimeters. It's absolutely stunning to drive across it!

The basic procedure for ice fishing is as follows: first, the net is lowered on the ice. An experienced fishing officer, basing the fishing net on the ice based on its color, then pokes holes in the ice. The net is then passed under the ice, gradually closing the net, and finally, it is pulled back to the surface at the exit. This process sounds simple, but it is actually quite complex.

What we saw was a small-scale winter fishing operation. A hole about one meter in diameter was chiseled in the ice, and the fishing net was lowered down.

The fisherman, wearing a white sheepskin coat and a wide leather belt around his waist, is about to start the ice fishing show for us.

It's very exciting to drift on the ice with a snow circle pulled by a tractor!

There is a direct tourist bus to Jingpo Lake in the square in front of Mudanjiang Railway Station, but it is recommended to rent a car and drive yourself, which is more convenient and can also visit some attractions near Jingpo Lake.

Tomorrow, December 31, 2023, the launching ceremony of the "Jingpo Lake Ice and Fire Fantasy World" will be held at the "North Gate Snow Castle - Fantasy Ice and Snow Area" in the Jingpo Lake Scenic Area.

In addition, the 9th Jingpo Lake International Winter Fishing Festival will be grandly opened on January 15, 2024. Visitors can experience the fishing and hunting culture that has been passed down for thousands of years and appreciate the magic and beauty of nature in the ice and snow.

According to geological analysis, between 4,700 and 8,300 years ago, this area experienced intense and frequent crustal movement, resulting in five episodes of intense volcanic activity. As the lava cooled, it formed a massive dam, blocking the upper reaches of the Mudanjiang River and forming Jingpo Lake, the largest alpine barrier lake in China and the second largest in the world. The world's largest alpine barrier lake is Lake Geneva in Switzerland.

Jingpo Lake is slightly S-shaped, resembling a dragon on a map. The lake is approximately 45 kilometers long and about 6 kilometers wide at its widest point. It is narrower in the northern part, only about 400 meters at its narrowest point. We just passed the Xihuxiu Bridge on the Heda Expressway. Xihuxiu is actually the southern part of Jingpo Lake.

Jingpo Lake's natural beauty is rare in China, but I always feel that while it's not as natural as it is, the cultural offerings haven't kept pace. The scenic area isn't attracting visitors. The waterfalls and the lake cruise are both beautiful, but the fun only lasts a short while. If properly developed and utilized, it could be a great addition.

On June 2, 2019, I took a bus from the Jingpo Lake Tourist Distribution Center next to Mudanjiang Railway Station at 9:30. There was another bus a little earlier at 7:30, with a round trip fare of 50 per person (only round trip tickets were sold). I think I got off at the entrance of Jingpo Lake Scenic Area at around 11 o'clock, and got on the bus back from the entrance of the scenic area at 4 o'clock in the afternoon.

Buy a ticket at the entrance of Jingpo Lake Scenic Area for 100 yuan per person. A sightseeing bus will take you directly to the pier, where the main attractions are concentrated. You can also walk a few minutes to the waterfall and buy a sightseeing bus ticket from there to the pier. From the pier, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the lake and take a boat tour for 100 yuan per person. There's also a small temple, and then take the bus back from the pier.

Younger travelers with more energy can walk to the pier and return to the entrance by bus, or take the bus and walk back. You can walk across the lake bridge and enjoy the scenery along the way. Elderly travelers with children should still take the sightseeing bus. The one-way walk from the entrance to the pier takes about 40 minutes, which is quite tiring. However, it's not very interesting for young people to just take the bus and see the whole trip. Tickets can be purchased at the stop where you board the sightseeing bus.

Jingpo Lake, the Underground Forest, and the Grand Canyon are not located together. They each sell their own tickets, and you need to take a bus to travel between them. It's not worth having lunch at these scenic spots, so it's best to bring your own food when you go.

It’s thrilling to see how fishermen from Northeast China fish in Jingpo Lake in winter!

It is a very famous scenic spot in Heilongjiang Province and is very beautiful.

Brother Han said that the ice layer of Jingpo Lake is more than 1 meter thick. To make snow circles in Jingpo Lake, you need to use a tractor with 50 snow circles towed behind it to pull you from one bank of Jingpo Lake to the other. We all sat facing the thick ice. The wind was too strong, so we had to move our backs and our woolen hats were not windproof.

After getting off the snow tubing, we boarded a flatbed truck. Fifty of us were transported to the center of the lake to watch others engage in winter fishing. Of course, this was a small-scale fishing operation, with a single, 0.5-meter-diameter hole in the ice. The nets were constantly pulled out, and every meter or so the net would pull out a fish, each at least 30 cm long. The ice was slippery, so be careful. After watching the winter fishing, we returned by the same route and transportation. Han, who had been driving with us on our departure, didn't ride the snow tubing on the return trip. A single trip cost us 10 yuan. On the way back, Han's 17-passenger van was drifting on the ice, and we screamed in the car.

Students who like volcanic geological structures should go and see it. There are basalt landforms along the roadside on the way to the scenic area. It is very large and the scenic area has highlights!

The main scenic area of Jingpo Lake consists of Diaoshuilou Waterfall and Bailichang Lake, and a full tour takes approximately 4-5 hours. After purchasing a ticket for the main area, you'll need to register your fingerprint, which grants you two entries within 48 hours. Diaoshuilou Waterfall is Jingpo Lake's most famous attraction, and its roaring flow is breathtaking in the summer, especially after rain.

Baili Changhu refers to the Jingpo Lake area. You can take a boat tour of the lake at the Jingpo Villa Pier, which takes about 1.5-2 hours. On the boat, you can enjoy the scenery of Maogong Mountain, Dagu Mountain, Xiaogu Mountain, Taoist Mountain and other landscapes.

But I feel that this place is not as bad as I imagined. The scenic spot still has its own characteristics. Don’t expect it too well.

Jingpo Lake Scenic Area has the Diaoshui Tower, the Hongluo Women area, the stone inscription area, and boat rides. Because we arrived at Jingpo Lake Scenic Area just in time for two typhoons and rainstorms, the water volume was particularly high, and the north gate of the scenic area was overflowing. Part of the scenic area was closed, but it was precisely because of this that we saw the waterfalls surrounded by splashing water.

Before you go, be sure to check online to see when the water is high. The waterfall is indeed beautiful and the diving performance is also very impressive.

By Rock 129 |

There wasn't much rain this year, so the waterfall was quite small. It's just a lake, and the attractions are a bit far-fetched. The boat ticket is a bit expensive. It's okay for leisure, but there's nothing special about the scenery.

Many people come here to see Mr. Di Huanran diving. Mr. Di Huanran holds the Guinness World Record for being the first person to dive from the world's highest waterfall, then swims upstream. He has been diving at Diaoshuilou Falls daily, even in the harsh winter, for 35 years.

Before the performance, Mr. Di Huanran happened to pass by us. After a short conversation, everyone realized that it was Di Huanran himself and came forward to take photos with him.

The sightseeing bus costs 12 yuan per person, but we did not choose to take the sightseeing bus. Instead, we walked for 40 minutes to the shore of Jingpo Lake. Only by walking can we discover the beautiful tree-lined paths.

Jingpo Lake is divided into two parts: South Lake Head and North Lake Head. North Lake Head is a high mountain barrier lake, which is often visited by boats, while South Lake Head is most famous for its Diaoshuilou Waterfall.

I booked a boat trip with the innkeeper early on the 14th. The boat ride cost 100 yuan per person and lasted one hour. The owner arranged a shuttle to Beihutou. It's quite far, and the road is under construction nearby. Once it's finished, you can get off the highway and cruise directly to Beihutou. A car picked us up around 7:00 AM. Once we arrived at the boat, we were organized to board, and the cruise began once everyone was there. The boat ride was mainly about enjoying the mountain and lake views. A guide gave us a chance to imagine the scenery. It turns out Stalin's son took refuge in Jingpo Lake.

It was drizzling that day, and the feeling of the drizzle was very comfortable. Raindrops fell between the mountains and rivers, and the breeze made people feel like they had found a summer resort in the midsummer.

Jingpo Lake tickets are excellent, valid for two days. So after a daytime visit, you can re-enter the park at night with your ticket. A camera takes a photo of each ticket holder upon first entry, and you must bring your own ticket for the second entry. The ticket inspector will verify your photo with your own. So, if you're traveling with someone who isn't going to see the night view, they might still bring all their tickets, and you won't know which one is yours. Therefore, it's recommended that everyone keeps their own tickets, and if you keep your family's tickets together, it's easier to have a good time.

After seeing the Diaoshuilou Waterfall, you can go down the stairs directly and follow the flow of the waterfall to the water's edge. There are large and small stones at the water's edge for you to step on. It is a favorite place for friends who like to play in the water and friends who like to take photos!

Jingpo Lake has a night view, and the lights come on at different times depending on the darkness. We arrived a little after 7:00 AM, and it was pitch dark. We initially thought the lights were off. At 7:30 PM, the lights finally came on. Other tourists arrived during the pitch darkness, but left thinking the lights were off. Perhaps they were afraid, as the darkness, with only the sound of the water flowing from the Diaoshui Tower, was truly terrifying. So, don't rush out to visit. If the night view isn't on, be patient. We recommend checking with the staff to find out when the lights will be on, depending on your visit time.

Jingpo Lake is a famous summer resort. It was formed by a volcanic eruption ten thousand years ago. It is the largest alpine barrier lake in China and the second largest in the world.

The scenic area is mainly divided into three major areas: the main scenic area of Jingpo Lake, Jingpo Canyon, and the underground forest of the crater. There are many natural attractions such as the "Eight Outer Scenic Spots" along both sides of the lake.

Diaoshuilou Waterfall is the most famous landscape of Jingpo Lake. Every summer, the water flows roaring here, and you can also enjoy the diving performance of Di Huanran, China's first cliff diver.

By Abaji |

The entrance fee to the scenic area is quite high. Actually, there's only one waterfall, Diaoshuilou Waterfall, and then there's the lake cruise. Many tourist attractions offer boat tours that are rip-offs and not worth the money, so we didn't take one. We entered through the north gate. It took less than a kilometer to reach Diaoshuilou Waterfall. The water was quite high in August, so it wasn't spectacular. Just a quick glance was enough, not enough to linger. People dive into the water every morning and afternoon, so it's worth watching. The ticket is valid for 48 hours. If you're staying overnight, you can go at night to see the colorful lights shining on the waterfall, which is quite beautiful. Accommodation outside the north gate is reasonable, but the food is a bit pricey. A bowl of cold noodles is 20 yuan, and a bowl of bibimbap is 20 yuan, and the portions aren't very generous. If you're after fish, the prices are reasonable, and there are options at all price points, so you can choose. Key complaints: 1. The ice cream inside the Jingpo Lake Scenic Area is 5 yuan a popsicle, which is 50 cents a popsicle outside—10 times more expensive. First of all, your attraction isn't located on the mountain. When I visited Huangshan, even the things porters carried to the top of the mountain weren't 10 times more expensive. 2. The sightseeing bus within the scenic area has been to many places, but I've never seen one that charges per stop. It's 12 yuan per trip, no matter where you go, and another 12 yuan to get to the next place. It's very expensive. The scenic area is huge, so walking isn't an option. 3. Mudanjiang's specialties are Korean bibimbap and cold noodles. When we arrived in Mudanjiang, we found a restaurant called Yalu River Nationalities Restaurant on Meituan. After eating there, all seven of us got food poisoning, vomiting and diarrhea. We even missed our planned trip to Chaihe's Little Jiuzhaigou. Travelers, don't eat there; getting sick and delaying your trip is not worth it. 4. Mudanjiang Tourism: Mudanjiang's Snow Village, despite its beautiful natural resources, has turned its reputation into a nationally known scam. People are terrified of it, and those who have been don't want to return, while those who haven't dared to go. Reputation is everything these days. We should think long-term and avoid one-off deals.

By White apple tree |

It's not worth traveling all the way to see it, but you can go there on the way. It's just a lake, which is too different from Qinghai Lake and Namtso Lake. It has no characteristics.

By Look up |

I just wrote hundreds of words, and accidentally ran out of them. Now I don't want to write anymore, so I can only summarize it in one word: a scam; two words: not worth it. To put it simply: the Tokyo City bus driver cheated us and wanted us to buy tickets for the Grand Canyon (there is no need to go to the man-made attractions). He did not stop at the terminal and took us to the Grand Canyon. We were so angry that we gave up and returned to Jingpo Lake. The waterfall has a small amount of water and it seems that it is not as good as the Jilin Red Leaf Valley. There are few road signs, and many walking tourists get lost. The fees are expensive: 100 yuan for a 20-minute raft under the waterfall, and 100 yuan for a 1-hour and 20-minute boat cruise on the lake. The scenic area transportation bus is 12 yuan per trip. Compared with other domestic AAAAA scenic spots of the same level and type, it is really a waste of money. I wanted to go to Xuexiang before, but it was reported so much last year, and Jingpo Lake is like this again. It really makes people worry about tourism in Mudanjiang. The geographical location is remote, and it should actually impress others with service and environment. But after reading the comments from netizens carefully, there are really not many good things. Alas,

The scenic area is beautiful and worth a visit, but you have to be prepared. The ticket is so expensive, 100 yuan. In addition, the bus in the scenic area costs money. The worst thing is that there is no return ticket. No matter where you go to buy it, one ticket costs 12, and then you buy another ticket for the next attraction for 12. You have to pay attention. Don't get on the wrong bus, otherwise, you have to spend another 12. It's speechless. No matter how good the scenic spot is, it will make you feel bad in the end. I want to cry but I have no tears.

By Guoguo |

When I went to Jingpo Lake, I wanted to see the Diaoshuilou Waterfall, which is the most beautiful part of the huge Jingpo Lake. However, the water level was not high this season, so I didn't think there was anything to see.

Jingpo Lake is the most important scenic spot in Mudanjiang. You can get there by car from Dongjing City. However, you must choose the flood season to visit here, otherwise you will not be able to see the Diaoshuilou Waterfall and of course the diving performance.

After looking through the photos online, I feel that Jingpo Lake feels very different in winter and summer, as if it were two different worlds.

The gatehouse carved from snow is magnificent, and paired with the clean blue sky, it is beautiful.

The warm winter sun shines on the snow, and every shot is a postcard-level beauty.

Don't waste your time visiting Jingpo Lake. The Diaoshuilou Waterfall, the attraction's main attraction, is completely dry! Not a drop! Not a drop! It's completely dry. I asked the scenic area staff, and they said they released water upstream during the May Day holiday, and since then, there's been no water at all, with the next release not until the Dragon Boat Festival. The river along the boardwalk from the waterfall to the villa pier is completely dry, its bed exposed. As for the scenery of Jingpo Lake itself, it's about the level of a reservoir in Zhejiang Province—basically unremarkable, nothing compared to Qiandao Lake. Southerners simply don't care. My question to the Jingpo Lake Scenic Area: Do you still have the nerve to charge 80 yuan a ticket and profit from these scams?!

Jingpo Lake is dominated by beautiful scenery of lakes and mountains, with geological wonders such as the underground primeval forest in the crater and underground lava tunnels, as well as historical and cultural landscapes represented by the ruins of the Bohai Kingdom in the Tang Dynasty. It is a comprehensive scenic spot for scientific research, summer vacation, sightseeing, vacation and cultural exchange activities.

Jingpo Lake is very large, but in fact, only tour groups may come here. In winter, Jingpo Lake really feels like it is frozen for thousands of miles. The endless water surface is frozen with a thickness of one or two meters. The blue ice surface is covered with white cracks, and occasionally snowflakes accumulate. When a horse-drawn sleigh passes by, the white snow flies all over the sky.

The small winter fishing trip to Jingpo Lake is on the other side of the river, which is impossible to reach by foot, as it's dozens of kilometers away. Instead, you have to take a sled pulled by a car. Another option is to tie a bunch of tires together, sit on them, and be pulled by a 30-40 mph car. This is more fun than riding a sled, but when you get off, you're wearing a snowsuit.

I had a feeling this small-scale winter fishing trip to Jingpo Lake would be a rip-off, and it turned out to be quite the experience. It's called a small-scale winter fishing trip, but it's actually just two people. They dig two small holes a few dozen meters apart in the ice, lowering the net from one end and then pulling it up again from the other end. The handsome guide explained that the net is moved underwater from one hole to the other using a machine.

By HeralChan |

It's actually a large frozen lake, and they offer ice activities in the winter. It's very cold because there's no cover on such a large lake.

By Cookie |

It's quite large, but I only visited the winter fishing area and the Diaoshuilou Waterfall. If you have more time, you can walk around and see more.

By Jing |

The vast lake was frozen solid. While not translucent enough to reflect anything, the bright white shimmered beautifully in the sunlight. The ice was slippery, so I could only move slowly. The lake was vast, and the wind howled, threatening to blow you over. The ice fishing wasn't particularly impressive. A large hole was carved through the ice, and a fine net was lowered. Whenever groups of tourists gathered, they would reel in the nets and catch fish. The return trip involved riding a rubber band, a rather novel experience.

It is a much better scenic spot than expected, especially standing on the surface of Jingpo Lake in winter, it feels very special

By Wan Junyan-Awan |

Jingpo Lake in winter is sparsely populated, and the scenery is breathtakingly beautiful, a paradise on earth. Even in temperatures of 20 to 30 degrees below zero, the water doesn't freeze thanks to hot springs and geothermal heat, creating wisps of white mist.

By Small Business 9999 |

For those who have never seen ice and snow, Jingpo Lake in winter may still be quite interesting.

The best scenery is the small circle of Diaoshuilou Waterfall. The river water that has not yet frozen flows through, and the temperature difference causes mist to evaporate on the water surface. The water vapor condenses into icicles on the high ground by the lake. This scenery is much better than the flat ice surface on the other side of the lake.

A so-called snow castle was built with snow by the lake. In fact, it is just an excuse to imitate a city gate. You can ski on one side and skate on the other. You can pay to rent two tires and climb up the stairs made of ice and snow step by step to the top of the city wall, and then sit in the hole of the tires and slide down. Is it interesting?

The dog-pulled sled costs 50 yuan per person. Six or seven dogs pulled it forward for about a hundred meters and then ran back. The dogs were already exhausted and panting.

Other ice motorcycle rides are multi-person experiences. An ice tractor pulls dozens of seats for a ride. The price is not expensive, only 5 or 10 yuan per person.

Fortunately, the entrance ticket is not expensive, 100 per person.

Jingpo Lake National Scenic Area, a national AAAAA-level tourist attraction, a world geological park, and one of China's top ten leisure and tourist destinations, is comparable to Qiandao Lake, with its sand and stone sculptures and the charm of Rabbit Ear Ridge.

Jingpo Lake National Scenic Area is located between Zhangguangcai Mountain and Laoye Mountain in the southeastern part of Heilongjiang Province, 60 kilometers southwest of Ning'an City and 90 kilometers from Mudanjiang City. The overall planned area is 1,726 square kilometers. The scenic area consists of three parts: Baili Long Lake, the crater primeval forest, and the ruins of Longquanfu, the Shangjing of the Bohai Kingdom.

Jingpo Lake, dominated by its stunning scenery of lakes and mountains, boasts geological wonders such as the primeval forest beneath the crater and underground lava tunnels, as well as historical and cultural attractions exemplified by the ruins of the Tang Dynasty Bohai Kingdom. It is a comprehensive scenic area offering opportunities for scientific research, summer escapes, sightseeing, tourism, vacations, and cultural exchange. Like a dazzling pearl set in the northern borders of China, Jingpo Lake is renowned for its unique, unpretentious natural beauty, attracting a growing number of visitors from both China and abroad.

It is more suitable for June to October every year. Most people go there for leisure and recuperation. Is this the place where you can see the Diaoshuilou Waterfall and take a boat ride?

In winter, you can see volcanic rock waterfalls here. It does not freeze in all seasons. It is also a must-see place to go to Changbai Mountain. You can take photos along the way.

Jingpo Lake in winter is actually not very interesting, as it is frozen everywhere.

But within a few minutes of coming out, it was freezing cold, with a freezing wind blowing!

By Arsenal129 |

The boat ride took 2 and a half hours. The water was yellow and the scenery was average. You could see Maogong Mountain, which was quite similar.

By Acting Gang |

It is a scenic spot worth visiting, but the public facilities are still not perfect.

By Be content with what you have |

Generally, half a pot costs 100 yuan, and a whole pot costs 280 yuan, which feels a bit like a scam.

By Sleep better for health |

I must have walked to the Yellow River by mistake, or this is a fake Jingpo Lake~

You have to take a car to the center of the lake to see the winter fishing. The fish are very big and very special.

Jingpo Lake Scenic Area, located 20 km southwest of Dongjingcheng Town in Ning'an City, Mudanjiang, is China's largest alpine barrier lake and the world's second-largest. Formed 5,000 years ago by lava from multiple volcanic eruptions blocking the ancient Mudanjiang River bed, it is a National Key Scenic Area, a World Geopark, and a 5A-rated tourist attraction. Along its banks are numerous natural attractions, including the "Outer Eight Scenic Spots" (Diaoshuilou Waterfall, Dagushan, Xiaogushan, Baishi Lazi, Chengqiang Lazi, Zhenzhumen, Taoist Mountain, and Laoqiao Lazi). Most visitors visit the core scenic areas of the northern section of the lake, including Jingpo Villa and Diaoshuilou Waterfall (entry and exit through the north gate takes 5-6 hours). Admission to the scenic area is 100 yuan per person (open 24 hours, valid for 48 hours), and electric carts are 12 yuan per person. Transportation: 1. There are buses running directly to the main scenic area from Mudanjiang Railway Station every day (departing in the morning and returning in the afternoon, one-way is about 25 yuan/person, and the journey takes about 2 hours). 2. Take a bus from Mudanjiang Long-distance Bus Station to Dongjingcheng Bus Station (13 yuan/person, the entire high-speed journey takes about 1 hour). From Dongjingcheng Bus Station, take a minibus to the north gate/east gate of the scenic area (10 yuan/person, 40 minutes). There are more buses for the two sections of Mudanjiang-Dongjingcheng and Dongjingcheng-North Gate of the scenic area. The whole journey takes about 2 hours (excluding waiting time).

The lake was particularly flooded this year, and the water on three sides was spectacular. The north gate was flooded, so you should use the east gate. The road to the underground forest was flooded, and the park was closed. I chartered a car from Mudanjiang for 550 yuan, including 60 yuan for tolls, and half-price admission for seniors and children.

I didn't find it worth the trip. It just looked like a large, monotonous lake, and the stilt house waterfall wasn't impressive. I chose the 100 yuan half-trip boat trip, which offered the same scenery throughout the hour-long cruise. There was no commentary, and I barely managed to spot the legendary Maogong. I felt that while Jingpo Lake may be important for geology and fisheries, it's not very touristic.

The scenery is okay, but the boat tickets are too expensive, there are few products in the scenic area, and the service is poor.

By Look around |

Jingpo Lake is very quiet and beautiful. When people come here, they will feel much calmer and the past will be just a cloud of smoke.

By Zhu Jie's Travel Notes |

The moment I set foot on the rocky terrain of Jingpo Lake in Mudanjiang City, Heilongjiang Province, I was deeply struck by the wonders of nature. I admired not only the scenery but also a deep sense of awe for nature. This black lava didn't form overnight; it was formed over millions of years of crustal movement. Scientific research indicates that the Jingpo Lake area has experienced five major volcanic eruptions. The red-hot, flowing magma swept away all living things in its path, covering the fertile soil. Beneath the destructive volcanic magma, the rocky terrain of Jingpo Lake was lifeless for a very long time.

Jingpo Lake Scenic Area is worthy of being an AAAA scenic area. The scenery is very beautiful, and Diaoshuilou Waterfall is one of its important scenic spots.

This is China's largest alpine barrier lake and the world's second-largest. Its clear waters and breathtaking mountain scenery create stunning scenery. When we visited in winter, the waterfalls were relatively empty, but the backdrop of white snow made the scenery stunning.

The winter scenery of Jingpo Lake is the same as that of other lakes, except that we saw winter fishing here.

By Wheat ears |

It is worth a visit to see China's largest volcanic lake. The ice waterfall is quite spectacular and the diving performance is also wonderful.

By .. |

If the lake is frozen in winter, you can drive directly on it, watch winter fishing performances, and go to Diaoshuilou Waterfall for diving performances.

By pear |

The icefall is quite unique. In winter, the rest of the scenic area is closed, so you can only see the icefall.

By Warm |

The snowmobiling was fantastic and the icefalls were stunning.

By Summer insects |

Apart from a waterfall, I don't think there is anything interesting to see.

Jingpo Lake in winter is like a mirror! You can walk on the frozen lake and feel the charm of winter!

By Forever'Xiao Xiaoyang |

It's beautiful. Even in winter, the ice is white. There are winter fishing activities to watch. The scenery is pretty good.

By vkdoki mushroom head |

An hour before sunset, we passed Jingpo Lake and stopped to linger for twenty minutes. The ice and ground merged seamlessly, and if there weren't so many people on the ice, gazing out at the frozen lake would have been even more breathtakingly beautiful. PS: There's a massive waterfall in this area, incredibly beautiful. You need to buy a ticket to enter the scenic area. You can search online for it; it's truly a fairyland, but unfortunately, it wasn't on our itinerary.

Winter is the off-season for visiting Diaoshuilou Waterfall. In November, Jingpo Lake is not completely frozen, and standing on the ice is definitely a different experience.

By Le Yapai |

It's a very scenic area with beautiful scenery. Jingpo Lake is very spectacular. You can take a boat tour on the lake. There are many celebrity inscriptions in the scenic area. The Diaoshuilou Waterfall is very spectacular. The service and sanitation in the scenic area are very good. There are buses and electric cars in the scenic area. The scenic area is very large and there are many attractions.

The famous volcanic barrier lake and the most famous stilt house waterfall in Northeast China are must-see attractions when visiting Mudanjiang City.

By Prince's Heart |

Jingpo Lake Scenic Area is quite distinctive, worthy of being a 5A scenic area. The development within the scenic area is quite extensive, and the original ecological protection is also quite good.

By Happy Ranger |

Jingpo Lake, the largest alpine barrier lake in China and the second largest in the world, is a famous tourist, summer resort and health resort, a national civilized scenic tourist area demonstration site, a national key scenic spot, an international ecotourism resort and summer resort, and a world geological park.

Jingpo Lake Scenic Area has beautiful natural scenery and is a great place for a short vacation or leisurely travel.

By Running Boots |

It's okay, considering it's a 5A scenic area. Jingpo Lake is roughly the same size as Khanka Lake, with the addition of Qilin Mountain, but it doesn't boast the vastness of Khanka Lake or the majestic beauty of Qilin Mountain. The scenery is beautiful, the lake meanders through the mountains, and you can enjoy boat rides, and there are numerous islands you can visit. 500 meters from the north gate is the Diaoshuiqiao Waterfall, surrounded on three sides by water when the water is high. It's quite spectacular, and in the right season, someone known as China's first cliff diver will jump from the waterfall. The scenic area also boasts a volcanic crater underground forest, said to be over 10,000 years old. The entrance fee is definitely worth the 5A designation. You'd definitely take the 100-yuan boat trip, and stay in a hotel within the 100-yuan scenic area for at least 300 yuan. A day spent exploring the lake, a night, and then a day spent exploring the underground forest would cost over 500 yuan per person. (Of course, I didn't go; I returned after a day exploring the lake.) Overall, I think the scenery at Jingpo Lake is nice, but the exorbitant entrance fee isn't worth it.
