Stalin Park

Formerly known as Riverside Park, this strip of open park is located along the south bank of the Songhua River. It features classical Russian architecture and flower beds of five-colored grass throughout the park. Sixteen distinctive sculptures, including "Swan Spreading Wings," "Three Young Men," "Start," "Diving," and "Sword Dance," are scattered throughout the park's green spaces. Across the river, it faces the world-renowned Sun Island. At the center of the park stands the Harbin Flood Control Memorial Tower, a symbol of the city. It commemorates the Harbin people's victory over the devastating flood of 1957.
The park's riverside restaurant, built before the Liberation Period (during the puppet Manchukuo era), is located west of the Flood Control Memorial Tower and near the yacht pier. It's modeled after a classical Russian wooden structure. Its roof, with its staggered, angular, and colorful design, resembles a building block. Its transparent verandas face the river, while its interiors feature a European architectural layout, embodying the simple and elegant European style. In the 1950s, the Changchun Film Studio used its structure to shoot several scenes for the film "The Case of Xu Qiuying." Other film and television studios have also filmed scenes in Stalin Park for films and TV series such as "The Black Triangle," "Ming Girl," "Harbin at Night," "The Story of Church Street," and "Annual Rings," demonstrating the allure of Stalin Park's scenery.
In summer, the refreshing river water and the green willows provide shade, and the wide natural bathing beach along the river is a great place for tourists to cool off. In winter, the northern world of ice and snow is a delightful and wonderful sight.

Stalin Park is an open-air park built along the south bank of the Songhua River, facing the Sun Island Scenic Area across the river. The famous Flood Control Victory Memorial Square is located in the center of Stalin Park. However, calling it a park doesn't make sense; it's just a walking path. In winter, the snow-white path, flanked by bare trees, is quite charming. There are also many simple snowmen and ice sculptures.

Stalin Park is a popular summer resort destination along the Songhua River, facing Sun Island across the river. Built in 1953 and originally named "Riverside Park," it stretches 1,750 meters along the embankment and is a strip of open park covering 105,000 square meters. Centered around the Flood Control Memorial Tower, the park is renowned both domestically and internationally for its classical Russian architectural style, the "Five-Colored Grass Flower Beds" scattered throughout the park, and sixteen sculptures scattered throughout the green spaces, including "Swan Spreading Wings," "Three Young Men," "Start," "Diving," and "Sword Dance."

The name Stalin Park sounds very loud, but it is actually not very big. It is long and narrow all day long. It may be more accurate to call it a riverside park. It is nice to come to the riverside to enjoy the breeze in the summer, or to come here to see the frozen Songhua River in the winter. There is an Ice and Snow Festival here in winter with many snowmen. It is very close to Central Avenue. You can go for a walk and have a look when you come to Harbin.

Riverside Park Park along the Songhua River

It's open, so there are no tickets.

The 1,750-meter-long "Flood Control Memorial Tower" is the centerpiece of Harbin, built to commemorate the local people's victory over two devastating floods.

It is said that many film and television dramas are set here.

There are kiosks selling winter supplies and you can go to the Songhua River to play

In winter, the whole road is filled with snowmen. All kinds of cute and silly ones are very suitable for taking pictures.

It imitates the Russian classical architectural style and has "five-color grass flower beds" throughout the park. There are 16 groups of artistic sculptures with unique characteristics distributed among the green spaces, such as "Swan Spreading Wings", "Three Young Men", "Starting", "Diving", and "Sword Dancing".

Stalin Park, nestled along the Songhua River and bordered by Wanda Plaza, is a truly harmonious park, perfectly situated for both location and people. After dinner, a stroll through the park and along the Songhua River is truly relaxing. The landmark People's Flood Control Memorial Tower is also located here. The square is bustling with people, singing, flying kites, snapping photos, and setting up small stalls... The memorial tower is even more stunning at night.

In the winter, we went to the park and built hundreds of snowmen. It was very cute and spectacular.

The night view is even more beautiful. I walked back and forth on the street and the lighting effects were great.

On a winter day, the park is blanketed in snow. Looking out over the frozen river, people are enjoying themselves on the ice. It's truly a winter activity. After lunch, we walked from the restaurant, a ten-minute walk. We passed People's Square and wandered through the park. Despite the cold, there were still many people.

This is a free park right next to the river. In winter, there are many snow sculptures, which are very interesting.

It's a bit like an open park. It's at the end of Central Avenue. I think it's opposite Sun Island. I went there on a business trip and didn't have time to go back.

Walk along Central Avenue to the river's edge, and you'll find the Flood Control Memorial Towers along both sides of the river. Some of the statues are photo ops, but they likely hold greater significance for local residents. The scenery isn't particularly impressive in the summer, but perhaps it's more beautiful in the winter.

I saw a check-in at the scenic spot next to the People's Flood Control Tower, so I checked in, took a photo, and went to take a look.

You don't have to go there. When you get to the flood control tower, you can look to the side and see a bare road in winter. If I lived nearby, I would definitely like to take a walk here at night! I don't know why it is called Stalin Park. Anyway, there is a stone tablet.

But why was the name changed to Stalin? It seems this was because Stalin was in power in the Soviet Union in 1953, and relations with the Soviet Union were relatively good at the time, leading to the name Stalin Park.

By Don't move. |

To the left of the sculpture is Stalin Park, which is quite quiet. I really didn't expect Harbin to be so peaceful in the summer.

Except in winter, the park seems to have nothing to do. The park is near the flood control memorial tower and the port, close to the south bank of the Songhua River.

Stalin Park, located on the south bank of the Songhua River in downtown Harbin, is an open, strip-shaped park built along the river. It faces the famous Sun Island Scenic Area across the river. The name suggests it was built shortly after the liberation of China, when Sino-Soviet relations were close. However, Harbin still retains many historical relics from the Soviet and even Tsarist eras, such as Central Street and St. Sophia Cathedral.

I really like this park, right next to the Flood Control Memorial Tower. It's a unique experience to stroll along the tree-lined avenue. I went in late February, and the weather hadn't warmed up yet, so the trees were all dry. If it gets warmer and the leaves start to grow, it should be beautiful!

Stalin Park, January 7, 2015. Located along the banks of the Songhua River, this formal park stretches a kilometer from east to west and 50 meters from north to south. Its first impression is of a wide, uniform promenade, unlike the smaller, more refined landscapes and waterscapes of South Park. At night, the trees along the park are beautifully illuminated, while daytime offers a completely different experience. It's still worth a visit, as it aligns with Central Avenue, the Flood Control Memorial Tower, and Zhaolin Park, and faces Sun Island across the river.

By Yang Dazhuang |

Behind the memorial tower is Stalin Park, a popular gathering place for the elderly in spring, summer, and autumn. But in winter, the scene becomes a different story, as the Songhua River freezes over, transforming it into a natural ice playground. Ice slides, ice skating cars, ice tricycles, spinning tops, dog sleds, ice karts, bumper cars, and ice surfing—the myriad of ice activities promise to amaze visitors from the south.
