Wudalianchi Scenic Area

This is a World Man and Biosphere Reserve, a National Natural Heritage Site, and China's Mineral Water Town. Fourteen volcanoes are scattered here, forming a unique volcanic landscape.
The volcanic eruption caused lava to block the Baihe River, forming five interconnected lakes, hence the name Wudalianchi. April to September is the best time to visit Wudalianchi.
The largest of the Wudalianchi Lakes is the Third Pond (also known as White Dragon Lake). The lake is at its clearest before 8 a.m. and after 4 p.m., making it the perfect time for scenic viewing.
The Crystal Palace and White Dragon Cave (an underground glacier) within the scenic area are both lava ice caves. The temperature inside the caves is -5°C year-round, leading to the saying "enjoy ice and snow during the dog days of summer." The hand-carved ice lanterns here are also incredibly lifelike.
Springs are also a major attraction within the scenic area, with the most beautiful being Wenbo—three small, year-round hot spring lakes. Visitors report that the water from the southern and northern springs has a unique flavor. Try Erlongquan, a local favorite, for a more palatable taste. It's located on nearby Erlongquan Road.

The Wudalianchi Scenic Area is located in Wudalianchi, Heihe City, Heilongjiang Province, 18 kilometers from downtown. It lies in the transition zone between the Lesser Khingan Mountains and the Songnen Plain, covering a total area of 1,060 square kilometers, including 321,000 mu of forest, 57,300 mu of grassland, and 150,000 mu of wetlands. Between 1719 and 1721, a volcanic eruption blocked the Baihe River, forming five interconnected lakes, hence the name Wudalianchi. The scenic area encompasses the Wudalianchi Lakes region: Lianhua Lake, Yanshan Lake, Bailong Lake, Heming Lake, and Ruyi Lake, forming a string of lakes, as well as the surrounding volcanic geological landscapes, associated cultural attractions, vegetation, and waterscapes. It is a world-renowned location for studying species adaptation and community evolution.

There were a lot of tourists that year (what year isn't packed?). I went when it was less crowded, and the journey was smooth. Since it was my first time there, I bought a ticket to Wudalianchi Station. On the train, the conductor asked if I was going on a trip or returning home. I said I was, so I should get off at Bei'an, where there are convenient buses to the scenic spots. I listened to him, and indeed, there were a lot of buses. I even got on the wrong bus, arriving in Wudalianchi City. Because it was raining and the weather was bad, we arrived at noon, so I stayed overnight and slept for about two hours.

The next day, I woke up early and took the bus to the Wudalianchi Scenic Area. It arrived quickly, just over 10 minutes. It was incredibly cold this morning, almost freezing cold. It was freezing me. It was unbearable, but I persevered.

Wudalianchi Scenic Area includes many scenic areas of varying sizes with stunning scenery. You can not only appreciate the geological wonders but also taste natural mineral springs with health benefits. If you have plenty of time, it is definitely the best choice for a health resort.

Overall, the scenic area wasn't as beautiful as I'd imagined. The dark volcano wasn't my style, and the lake didn't look as beautiful as it could have been, perhaps because the weather wasn't perfect.

Wudalianchi has always been famous, but I first got to know it in the documentary "Aerial China" two years ago. The most impressive thing was the Zhongling Temple on Yaoquan Mountain covered with snow in winter, which was particularly beautiful.

There aren't many online travelogues about Wudalianchi, and the photos are average, too. I didn't have high expectations for it, considering it simply as a stop along the way. But after experiencing it, I found it to be a truly remarkable place for photography. Personally, I love it. Its unpopularity means fewer people, and its unique volcanic landscape offers a host of unique sights.

Let me first talk about the overview of the Wudalianchi Scenic Area: the entire Wudalianchi Scenic Area is a group of volcanoes on a vast plain. The highlights are volcanoes, volcanic lakes, lava, mineral water... The entire geological park is composed of many scattered scenic areas, including Laohei Mountain, Wenbo, Yaoquan Mountain, Beiyinquan, Nanyinquan, Tianchi, etc. Each attraction is far apart, so it is best to drive by yourself. If you don’t drive by yourself, you can choose a local one-day tour bus, which you can ask at the hotel.

If you want to visit every attraction, it will take two to three days. My itinerary is one and a half days, which is the most suitable route I found after research. It includes Laohei Mountain, Yaoquan Mountain, Beiyinquan, Wenbo, and the wild attraction Wheat Field.

It is close to Harbin and can be reached in half a day's drive. It was autumn when we went there and the trees in the scenic area were all yellow, which complemented the blue sky and volcanic lake. It is worth seeing. In other seasons, especially in the cold winter, it would lack some charm. So you have to go to Wudalianchi at the right time. The water of Wenbo is green, the crater of Laoheishan is spectacular, and the volcanic barrier lake is connected to the island. It takes a day and a half to visit. The scenery of Wudalianchi is nice, but the infrastructure is not very good, the scenic areas are scattered, and there are few toilets.

The Wudalianchi scenic area is quite large, and visiting all of its attractions would take about three or four days. We only planned two days, so we only visited a few of the main attractions. The attractions are relatively scattered, so driving yourself is much more convenient. Those who don't drive usually choose to charter a car. You can choose to walk or use an electric car to enter the mountain. Our principle has always been to never drive if we can conserve our energy. The distance from the mountain gate to the foot of the mountain is about five or six kilometers, so taking a car is definitely necessary. The car has a real-time audio guide, and each volcanic landform is accompanied by an explanation, which is very good!

These mountains and forests grow on lava, and the fertile volcanic ash has given birth to rich and colorful forests. This once-destroyed land has undergone hundreds of years of self-repair and now has the most beautiful appearance! How powerful is vitality?

As soon as we entered the mountains, we couldn't move our feet anymore. What a gorgeous autumn scenery! It's like God overturned his palette and sprinkled all the golden color down. The oil painting of nature is right in front of us, and we can't help but walk into the painting and become the people in the painting~

Half of the area is covered with lush and vibrant forests, while the other half is barren and lifeless lava. Such a unique landscape is hard to find anywhere else except Wudalianchi.

The feet are standing on the magical lava, which is extremely solid.

The sun shines through the forest, and thick moss covers the ground. The scene looks like a fairy tale. I can't help but run up to step on the natural green carpet, sit on it and take a few deep breaths of the unique fragrance of the forest. Hmm~~~ It's a pleasant enjoyment!

The weather is great. Against the backdrop of the blue sky, the already colorful forest becomes even more lovely!

Walking around the crater and looking into the distance, you can see the legendary Wudalianchi dotted among these volcanic groups. The lake water meanders against the blue sky, which is very beautiful!

Wudalianchi has many scenic spots, all with separate ticketing. If you're driving, you can explore as you please. First, I headed to Black Dragon Mountain, a must-see in Wudalianchi. Black Dragon Mountain encompasses three scenic areas: Laohei Mountain, Huoshao Mountain, and Fanhua Stone Sea. There are both land and water entrances to Black Dragon Mountain. I chose the water route, driving to the Volcano Barrier Lake Scenic Area (three pools) and then taking a round-trip boat into the Black Dragon Mountain Scenic Area. This way, I could admire Wudalianchi's fourteen volcanoes from the lake.

Sanchi is the largest pool among the Wudalianchi. Although the five pools do not appear connected from the air, they are connected underneath. The advantage of taking a cruise is that there will be a group and a tour guide on board who will first introduce you to the five pools and fourteen volcanoes, giving you a comprehensive understanding of the entire scenic area.

When the boat reached the dock on the other side, I was greeted by a breathtaking fusion of volcanic lava and rural scenery. I bought a pass for the Heilongshan Scenic Area and took an electric car to the foot of Laohei Mountain. After getting off the car, I headed straight ahead. There was a fork in the road. The left side offered a steeper climb, but the distance was shorter. The right side offered a scientific research plank road, which was a gentler route but twice the distance, though there was still a climb at the end. I recommend going up the gentle slope first, then down the steep slope, and taking the scientific research plank road first for less effort (I went up the steep slope first, then down the gentle slope, and felt I was at a disadvantage).

Reaching the crater isn't the end of the trail; it's just the lowest point of the crater circuit. You'll need to climb further to reach the highest point! There's a trail that circles the entire crater, and a good rule of thumb is to climb left to the highest point (where there's a circular sign with a panoramic view of Wudalianchi) and then return the same way. You don't need to complete a 360-degree circuit around the crater.

It is absolutely necessary to go to the highest point, which is the most spectacular place in the entire Wudalianchi Scenic Area. However, many people are unwilling to go up again after reaching the crater, and as a result, they don’t know what they have missed.

To sum up, it exceeded expectations and was beautiful!

Accommodation is recommended at the Provincial Workers' Sanatorium, which has volcanic hot springs and is currently home to provincial leaders and Russians.

The food is good. I ate at two restaurants and the local tofu and fish were both good. If you are a drinker, you can try the local beer. The hops are very good and fragrant.

Only two of the 14 local volcanoes are dormant.

I recommend visiting the three pools and taking a boat ride on the first day before heading to the volcanic rock area. I highly recommend the 1817 photo of the volcanic rock area, which is filled with ink-colored small Iceland! Then go to the North Lake to drink the rusty water and see the reed marshes.

The next morning, we climbed Laohei Mountain and then went to see Huoshao Mountain. Huoshao Mountain has a jet cone, a world wonder that you must see. There are only a few places like it in the world. Don't be too tired to go.

We went there during the National Day holiday, and the scenery wasn't what we expected. Later, I thought it might be due to the autumn weather and the lack of amenities within the scenic area. Still, the scenery from a distance was quite beautiful and spectacular. We spent the day exploring the main scenic areas, visiting Laohei Mountain, the barrier lake, and the medicinal spring. The attractions within the area are quite far apart, and each has its own separate fee. We hired a car from Bei'an for 200 yuan round trip, which took us to all the scenic spots we wanted to visit. It's a good option for a group of people. We recommend booking a hotel within the Wudalianchi Scenic Area, as hiring a car within the area is more convenient. (Ask about the route to Laohei Mountain; it usually involves a boat transfer from the pier to the area, which costs 100 yuan per person, which seems a bit steep. There should be cheaper options, so ask the driver.) Overall, it was okay, and the scenery would be even better in the summer!

Due to time constraints, we only visited the No. 3 Pond, the barrier lake, and the Erlongyan Spring, which was a little disappointing. The No. 3 Pond was visited by boat, and the shimmering water was beautiful. The water from the Erlongyan Spring is drinkable and is said to cure eye and skin diseases.

Wudalianchi's volcanic mud mask is very famous, and friends who are interested can pay attention to it.

Volcanoes came into view, a completely different feeling from the vast forests of Yichun. Somehow, the navigation system took us to the "Northern Medicine Spring" in Wudalianchi. So when we were about to leave the scenic area, we were charged 5 yuan for parking for only 5 minutes. It turns out that the parking fee here is per visit, regardless of the time. Later, I got used to it, and it is basically the same here.

This is the most recent and best-preserved volcano in China. Walking along the mountain road, you can see the lava sea and the jet cones that erupted that year. It's really an extraordinary experience to walk around the crater. It's highly recommended and worth a visit.

By Wang Jia |

Laohei Mountain is the main attraction of Wudalianchi. There is an active volcano crater on the mountain. The last eruption was 290 years ago. There is a World Geopark at the foot of the mountain. The scenic area is quite good and is similar to the volcanic rocks in Arshan.

Wudalianchi is a little-known volcanic area, but it's not as famous as Changbai Mountain's Tianchi. I only discovered after visiting that Wudalianchi is also a 5A-rated scenic spot. It's called Wudalianchi because lava from a volcanic eruption blocked the Baihe River, forming five connected lakes.

Before going to Wudalianchi, we were also conflicted and did a lot of research on China-TravelNote. We felt that the transportation in Wudalianchi was very inconvenient. There were all kinds of chartered cars or illegal taxis, which made us, experienced independent travelers, feel embarrassed and almost gave up. However, under the guidance of the fearless spirit and careful preparation, we still went there without hesitation. After going there, I can responsibly tell you that although there are still some unsatisfactory experiences, after careful planning, we can still cope with the freedom. So just go if you want to, without thinking too much.

The purpose of traveling to Wudalianchi is to see the topography after the volcanic eruption. The difference from Changbai Mountain Tianchi is that there is no water in the crater and you can see the valley bottom directly. Of course, the mystery of the crater lake is lost.

Wudalianchi is not far from Qiqihar and Harbin, accessible by train or bus, though driving is more convenient. The best route to Wudalianchi is by train from Mohe. A few transportation tips: First, if you're traveling by train, be sure to get off at Bei'an Station, not Wudalianchi Station. This trip proved that transportation from Bei'an to the scenic area is very convenient. Buses run directly from Bei'an Station to the Wudalianchi Scenic Area for 20 yuan per person and depart when full. Second, you're visiting the Wudalianchi Scenic Area, not Wudalianchi City, which is about 20 kilometers away. Therefore, it's best to take a bus directly to the scenic area. Third, there's no need to charter a car to the Wudalianchi Scenic Area unless you're pressed for time. Transportation is convenient, and the distances between attractions are close.

As for the journey or tour itinerary to Wudalianchi, one day is enough, and you can visit Wenbo, Beiyinquan, Laoheishan, Huoshaoshan, and Yaoquanshan.

The Wudalianchi Tourist Service Center is located between Beiyinquan and Wenbo, near Shengshui Square. It is easy to find and there are free hand-drawn maps, which are more or less helpful to tourists.

As the only 5A scenic spot in Heihe, access is naturally smooth. Besides displaying the "5A" designation, the scenic spot boasts a plethora of other titles, too numerous to count. While plagiarizing "Mr. Bai" isn't shameful, I'm not going along with the crowd. Regarding the highlights of Wudalianchi Scenic Area, the guides clearly outline them: simply looking at the mountains, drinking water, and admiring the rocks. Of course, these are just tourist descriptions, but locals recommended Black Dragon Mountain and Huoshao Mountain for my water trip. These two Huoshao Mountains are relatively new volcanoes in China, having erupted less than 300 years ago. Another attraction is Yaoquan Mountain. Although Yaoquan Mountain is the lowest of the fourteen volcanoes in the Wudalianchi Scenic Area, the Erlongyan Spring at its foot is renowned locally. Locals flock here to collect the water and wash their eyes.

The train from Harbin to Bei'an is very convenient. I was hesitant between driving and taking the train, but ultimately opted for a round-trip sleeper train. It was a very relaxing and less tiring experience, and best of all, the kids slept comfortably in the train berths when they were tired. We did a lot of preparation before the trip, as we were traveling with our 91-year-old grandmother, our 2.5-year-old baby, our parents, our uncle, our cousin—four generations of eight people living together. It really took a lot of planning, and this trip has convinced me that preparation is essential. We booked three Marriott hotels through Ctrip, including a triple room for around 350. The Marriott is considered the most upscale hotel in the scenic area, with a nice and comfortable environment. The service was very friendly and we even received a free room upgrade. Based on recommendations, we finally opted for a chartered car tour. Two cars accompanied us for three days, saving us the stress of driving the route and the fatigue of traveling on our own. We arrived at Bei'an Station at 12:30 p.m., and the driver took us, seven adults and one child, to the Wudalianchi Scenic Area. We tried the famous local donkey, but I didn't think it was that good. The carp cost 68 yuan per pound, and it didn't taste as good as my dad's. It didn't feel freshly slaughtered. The small stupid chicken cost 168 yuan, but that was the only dish that tasted good! People say the local tofu is delicious, but I couldn't tell. In the afternoon, we visited Yaoquan Mountain and the North and South Yinquan (the North Yinquan cures stomach ailments, while the South Yinquan is good for nerves, but you have to drink it year-round; many loyal fans stay there for months every summer for healing). The next day, we visited Laohei Mountain (we took a sightseeing bus, then took an electric car to Huoshao Mountain. Important note: the entrance fee and sightseeing are all included, totaling 108 yuan). In the afternoon, we visited Wenbo (Little Jiuzhaigou is still beautiful, especially on a sunny day). These two attractions are truly classic and worth the money! On the third day, we went to Bailong Cave. We had originally planned to go to Wohu Mountain to see the deer (not recommended because it's not an official tour. People over 65 pay full price, students don't get half price, and there's no standard fee or permit, so we decided to leave). Bailong Cave didn't have much to see, and it was dark and cold. We rented three cotton jackets and were out in less than 10 minutes. Not recommended for tourists from Heilongjiang! We returned to Bei'an from Bailong Cave at 10:00 AM.

Tickets to regular scenic spots such as Laohei Mountain (electric car is not free at 25, but it is worth the money), Wenbo, Nanbeiquan, etc. are free for people over 65 years old. Thumbs up!

Mr. Li and the other driver have a very good service attitude. They will return to the scenic spot to pick you up at the agreed time. The price is reasonable. Please help Mr. Li promote his phone number.

Wudalianchi's peak tourist season is summer, but it was off-season back then, so not only were tickets available at off-season prices, but also the room rates and car rentals were relatively affordable. Inside the scenic area, there were text descriptions of various typical lava landforms. Even better, the area was sparsely populated, allowing everyone to take as many selfies as they wanted.

The main attractions of Wudalianchi include Laohei Mountain, the crater, Yaoquan Lake, Wenbo, Longmen Stone Village, etc. The volcanic rocks are of various shapes and are very spectacular. The attractions of Wudalianchi are quite far away, and public transportation is not very good. There are many illegal taxis and it is quite chaotic.

The scenery is super beautiful. I was not very lucky on this trip. I happened to encounter the first snow in Wudalianchi❄️, so it was really cold.

However, we really met a super good chartered car driver on this trip - Master Li (13199286389). The two southern girls were not well prepared, so they did not bring very thick clothes. The master was very enthusiastic and brought us cotton coats. He was also a very nice person.

The hotel we stayed at, the Yuelai Hotel, wasn't expensive, so we didn't expect a particularly nice environment. I understand that. But what really irritated me was the lack of a hairdryer, and the floor heating was incredibly ineffective. It was freezing! So, I recommend contacting a chartered driver to find accommodations on site. There are plenty of places to stay in the scenic area, so don't worry...

Then on the first day, we ate the local mineral water fish - Jixiang Mineral Water Food City. It was delicious, the fish was tender, and the tofu was delicious. The boss lady is really from Northeast China, and she feels so welcoming 🤦‍♀️

We spent a day and a half exploring Laohei Mountain, Huoshao Mountain, Wenbo Lake, Bailong Cave, Beiyinquan Spring, and Wohu Mountain. Because we went in late September, the scenery was incredibly beautiful, with very few people. On the second day, when we visited Bailong Cave and Wohu Mountain, it felt like we were the only two tourists in the entire area. Let's start with the attractions. Laohei Mountain and Wenbo Lake are particularly beautiful. The circumnavigation of the crater at Laohei Mountain is breathtaking, and the wind is incredibly strong. Definitely bring a down jacket and fleece pants; it's incredibly cold. I didn't do much at Huoshao Mountain because it was cloudy that day, so I couldn't see much, but the lake there was beautiful, and so was Wenbo Lake. We spent the afternoon exploring until the scenic area closed. Bailong Cave is relatively small, only about 300 meters round trip in 20 minutes, but it felt even shorter. There's cotton pants for rent at the entrance, but I don't think it would be necessary unless you're wearing very little. The rental staff said it would be as low as -12°C, but we didn't feel that cold, only around -3 or -4°C. The water of Beiyinquan tastes like soda and has high nutritional value. Wohu Mountain is very beautiful, and the playground, sika deer and horses are all beautiful. The view from the observation deck is refreshing. Let's talk about food. I didn't eat the mineral fish, but the mineral tofu was not bad. However, I didn't feel that the fried wild vegetable meatballs were very good. Moreover, the restaurant we went to for food on the first afternoon felt quite expensive. We ordered two dishes and ended up spending more than 70 yuan. The owner of another restaurant we went to on the second afternoon recommended a stewed four-white dish, saying that one portion was enough for two people, and it would only cost about 20 or 30 yuan, which is very cost-effective. Therefore, you can go to more restaurants for meals. As for accommodation, it was recommended by Master Li who chartered the car. The hotel was good and the price was relatively affordable, but there was no hot water that day. Finally, let's talk about travel. Two of us chartered a car for a day and a half, and the price felt okay. It was responsible for picking up and dropping off between the scenic area bus station and the scenic area. Laohei Mountain, Wohu Mountain, and Bailong Cave all require taxis, which are quite far to get to. The chartered car driver was very nice and enthusiastic. He explained to us along the way and took the initiative to lend me his thick coat to wear, because I was not wearing very thick clothes at the time. Thanks to Master Li's clothes, I didn't freeze like a fool on Laohei Mountain, haha. If you need any help, please contact Mr. Li at 13199286389

The Wudalianchi volcanic group was formed by ancient, mid-period, and modern eruptions. Its volcanic geomorphology is well-preserved, a rare and comprehensive collection of volcanic landforms in the world. Having seen volcanic landforms in Iceland, Tengchong, Yunnan, Changbai Mountain, Jilin, Haikou, Hainan, and Honshu and Hokkaido, Japan, the rich variety of volcanic relics surrounding Wudalianchi is truly worth seeing. Therefore, experts have concluded that this area is scientifically sound, systematic, complete, typical, and aesthetically pleasing, making it China's premier and world-renowned volcano.

The rocky sea of Longmen Stone Village; the various volcanic rocks of Wenbo, whose crystal-clear water is the most beautiful; the crater of Laohei Mountain; the mineral water of Beiyinquan; and the underground ice caves. We visited them all and even watched the sunset at Bailong Lake. It was absolutely stunning! This trip was worth it!

In the end, I narrowly avoided missing the bus back to Bei'an. Thanks to our charter driver, Li Jun. Call 131 9928 6389 for some advice. Congratulations to Mr. Li on his new car.

It's OK, mainly because Laohei Mountain and the North and South Drinking Springs are both scenic. The temperature and scenery are suitable for summer. However, the most recommended place here is a restaurant called Meishi Meike Lianchi Fish and Beans. Let me first say that I am really not a shill, I am really touched. There are not many restaurant owners like this now. The owner is really super super nice! !!! The family's dishes are all local specialties. I went there for two consecutive days. I went to eat there. The reviews made me feel that the service and taste were better than the first-ranked restaurant, and it was really like that! The owner gave a lot of gifts, duck eggs, and Wudalianchi mineral water. He also recommended places to visit. We ordered a Lianchi fish tofu. A fish can be divided into two kinds, fish fillet, and Lianchi fish tofu, which is only one dish. I originally wanted to order a mineral duck, but the owner said that it was enough for two people and they couldn't finish it. After the dishes were served, they were really huge. I really couldn't finish them. During the meal, a tour guide came over and tried to make a profit from the price difference. The owner of the 11-person group refused. He said that the prices were clearly marked and the fish were freshly killed.

Walk to the end of the pedestrian street and onto the main road. Continue east for a few hundred meters until you see the stone tablet pictured below. This is the Wudalianchi Tourist Service Center, with a large parking lot. Those looking for a chartered car can find one here.

During the peak season, there are shuttle buses to various scenic spots. The round trip to Laoheishan Scenic Area is 20 yuan. When I arrived, the bus station was moving, and there were no buses to the scenic area in the past few days.

Wudalianchi has the most complete, typical and latest volcanic group in the world and is known as the "China Volcano Museum".

The five-year-old child loves the volcanic geological landscape and is very happy just walking inside. From Bailong Lake, you can clearly see 14 volcanoes. I heard that it will be more beautiful in summer.

I visited Wudalianchi in mid-May. Having looked up travel guides, I only visited Laohei Mountain, which I was interested in. The entrance fee was 78 yuan, and the electric car was 25 yuan. The electric car is a must, as the distance from the entrance to the base of Laohei Mountain is quite long. The recorded commentary on the car was very helpful in understanding the unique volcanic scenery, and the scenery along the way was also unique. Climbing to the summit of Laohei Mountain is a must, as you can see the crater and the entire Wudalianchi Lake, which is spectacular. Having erupted 300 years ago, the volcano is very young, and its landforms are well-preserved, with the "Flowering Stone Sea" and "Stone River" not seen elsewhere. In some places, the dark volcanic rocks are covered with Eurasian Spiraea, which blooms white in May, creating a unique contrast. After descending the mountain, you can use your electric car ticket to take a bus to Huoshao Mountain, which is also part of the Laohei Mountain scenic area and does not require a separate ticket. The bus also provides commentary along the way, and you can see the unique Jet Cone. The final stop is Sanchi, the largest pond in Wudalianchi. There are boat tours available, but I didn't take one because it was a bit late, so I took the bus back to the entrance. In short, Laoheishan is definitely worth a visit. I haven't been to other places, so I have no say.

There are quite a few volcanoes to see, and the volcanic relics of the five major lotus ponds have their own characteristics. The stone sea, jet disc and jet cone are all among the special features.

At 9:08, we came to the left plank road. There was a loud-voiced tour guide from Northeast China. It was quite cool. He explained to the world without reservation:

When a volcano erupts, a jet disk is first formed, and then multiple eruptions from the same jet disk form layer upon layer to form a tall jet cone.

Popular science:

From a distance, the jet cones resemble black stone towers, each one standing tall amidst the tumbling stones. They are tapering at the top and thickening at the bottom, typically 2-4 meters high and 2-5 meters in diameter at the base. They are hollow, with a jet vent at the top.

A fumarole, also known as a fumarole crater, is flat in appearance, sometimes resembling a trumpet, sometimes a large plate or dish. A fumarole is the prototype of a fumarole cone. Both forms are formed when hot lava flows vaporize surface water at the bottom of the lava, producing large amounts of gas. This gas continuously escapes, pushing the lava outward. Each gas eruption is accompanied by some molten lava, which gradually accumulates upward. The shapes range from trumpets to corollas, plates, and dishes.

Jet cones and discs are unique to the Laohei Mountain and Huoshao Mountain areas of Wudalianchi. There are over 1,500 of them, and what we've witnessed is just the tip of the iceberg. Even within our reach, some have already been destroyed. It's said that each jet cone and disc is worth a fortune. Jet cones and discs are rare volcanic geological phenomena worldwide, treasures of my country's volcanoes, and a non-renewable natural heritage.

The facilities and services in the scenic area are very beautiful, but the transportation to the scenic area is inconvenient and you need to take a taxi

The unique volcanic landform is worth seeing.

It's a very good and special geographical park, but the ticket is a bit expensive

It's good. If I stay here longer during the holidays, it will be better for recuperation.

This is the park you can see after getting off the Huoshaoshan tour bus at the end. There are trails for you to walk along. It's a close-up experience.

I can't write it down, so I'll write it separately. It's my first time writing, so I don't know how to use it. I wrote it in detail in the memo screenshot. In summary, I like it very much. There are few people, it's quiet, the scenery is beautiful, the products are good, the price is low, and there is no fraud.

We went on a tour group on August 18th, which included visits to Laohei Mountain (78 yuan) and the volcanic barrier lake (100 yuan, including a 20-minute electric car ride and a half-hour double-decker boat ride). Laohei Mountain seemed quite expensive, and the climb only took about ten minutes. There was nothing on top except a large crater, but there were quite a few squirrels in the woods, as well as some distinctive volcanic rocks, including what the locals call fumaroles. The volcanic barrier lake, also known as Sanchi, was beautiful and well worth the price of admission, reminding me of Lugu Lake. It gets dark early here, and in August it was dark by 6 p.m. The entire tour took between 2 and 3 hours.

The only new volcanic wonder in China, the last eruption more than 200 years ago formed the current landform. Two of its volcanoes are dormant, and the underground ice springs are magical springs for healing. Due to its remote location and little commercial development, it has retained many of its original features, and the tourist facilities are relatively simple.

It's nice to see volcanoes and other things. I feel that Wudalianchi is also very beautiful in autumn, but the temperature is a little low in the morning and evening.

By Quiet |

The word "spectacular" is hard to describe my feeling. It is definitely worth the trip.

By Repulse Bay_Luna |

The weather is pleasant and there are not many people at the scenic spots. It is good to drive by yourself, but there are few road signs and navigation is not easy.

By China-TravelNote users |

The last scenic spot I regretted visiting. I spent a lot of money, but there was nothing beautiful to see. The scenery was not suitable for my taste. If there was water in the crater, it would be different immediately.

Wudalianchi Scenic Area is mainly composed of the geological landscape of Wudalianchi Lake and the surrounding volcanic group, related cultural landscape, vegetation, waterscape, etc. Wudalianchi Scenic Area has been honored as: World Geopark[, World Biosphere Reserve, National AAAAA-level Tourist Attraction, National Key Scenic Spot, National Nature Reserve, National Forest Park[6], and National Natural Heritage.

The itinerary is detailed, including the specific locations of attractions, transportation, tickets, and dining expenses, along with some recommended sightseeing spots. The detailed cost breakdown is particularly commendable, providing a useful itinerary and budget guide for those planning a trip. While the diary-style travelogue may be a bit lengthy, it's a valuable resource for those with a relevant itinerary.

The volcanic landscape is absolutely stunning. Free admission for those over 60 years old. The scenery is very beautiful.

Wudalianchi sounds like a beautiful city. Wudalianchi is the name of both the city and the scenic spot. There are traces of volcanoes everywhere.

By jackfruit |

We entered the Wudalianchi Scenic Area. The scenery in the scenic area is beautiful, with fresh and lush green plants on both sides of the road, and occasionally you can see black volcanic rocks lying in the fields. It's a pleasant run on the tree-lined path, which feels unique.

By keer |

As soon as you enter, you'll see all sorts of large black lava rocks covered in white and golden rock flowers. And even in such a harsh, almost soilless place, there's so much vegetation growing there. It's amazing!

I think the correct name should be "World Geopark," or a World Geopark characterized by volcanic landforms. It primarily encompasses 14 volcanoes (the most famous being the Laohei Mountain crater and the Stone Sea, and Huoshao Mountain) and five barrier lakes formed by volcanic eruptions (Pools 1 through 5, with the most famous being the third pond, Bailong Lake). The main attraction for volcanic geology is the Laohei Mountain crater, 350 meters in diameter and a vast Stone Sea. Wenbo also boasts numerous attractions, including the three lakes of Libo, Bibo, and Jingbo. Volcanic landscapes include a variety of lava formations: lava wells, lava ridges, collapses, fissures, rope-like formations, and reptile-like formations. Bailong Lake, Sanchi, offers a volcanic landscape on both sides: a volcanic platform on one side and Cretaceous sandstone on the other. Overlooking Huoshao Mountain.

By Laoshan Stone |

The World Geopark truly lives up to its name. Within the scenic area of over 1,000 square kilometers, there are 14 volcanoes, both old and new (from over 2 million years ago to over 2.8 million years ago, they were largely dormant, unlike the active volcanoes in Hawaii). The most famous are Laohei Mountain and Huoshao Mountain. Lava blocking the Baihe River formed five tidal-connected volcanic barrier lakes, known as the Five Great Linked Ponds. These five linked ponds range from one to no pond at all, with the largest and most beautiful being the third pond (Bailong Lake). At Bailong Lake, you can take a boat tour to admire the volcanic landscape in the distance. Climbing Laohei Mountain, which stands over 500 meters high, you can admire the funnel-shaped crater, approximately 350 meters in diameter. There are also ice caves (Crystal Palace), formed over 50 years ago, and unique warm waters (Bi Bo, Li Bo, Jing Bo), Shilong River, and various volcanic landforms.

It's arguably the world's most well-preserved volcanic landscape, designated a UNESCO World Geopark. Transportation is convenient, and ticket prices are reasonable. Seniors can enjoy a 50% discount.

A summer resort, renowned for its mineral springs. Wudalianchi's water is all groundwater, and there's a spring where locals line up daily to collect it, with a limit of two jugs per household. Wudalianchi's spring water tastes similar to Sprite, but is lighter, less sticky, and less cloyingly sweet. When you drink it, the carbon dioxide releases, creating a crackling sound on your tongue. Initially, I got so used to it that after just a few sips, I couldn't stop. I felt like no other mountain spring in the world could compare to Wudalianchi's...

By Spirited |

We stopped and walked along the way, observing, admiring, and marveling at the wonders of nature. Look at the roiling lava, the jagged rocks, each with its own unique and vivid posture, some like a tiger, some like a dragon, some like a bear, some like a giant python emerging from a cave, and some like the roar of a dolphin...

The Wudalianchi Scenic Area is a spectacular sight, formed by a chain of fourteen volcanoes. The barrier lakes that form the Wudalianchi area are incredibly spectacular. The lava landforms are bizarre, reminiscent of eruptions centuries ago. The volcanic mud can be used as a facial mask, and the mineral water is drinkable. Thanks to two years of maintenance, the vegetation has gradually flourished, and even squirrels have settled here.

While resting at a fork in the road at Wudalianchi Scenic Area, I consulted a local and headed straight to the Third Pond of Wudalianchi. The facilities there are just beginning to take shape, and there's no entrance fee, only a parking fee. It wasn't a weekend, so there weren't many tourists.

I saw five or six people swimming in the water. Later I found out they were insiders. I couldn't help it and went into the water again because it was so hot.

The Wudalianchi Scenic Area generally refers to the southernmost pond, which was developed earlier, is relatively large, and has an entrance fee. We stopped outside Yaoquan Mountain, where there was a spring. Many people were waiting in line to drink from it, and even foreigners joined in. The spring water was refreshing, and we not only drank it but also collected it in thermoses. Later, at lunch, I drank it like an iced beer, which was quite refreshing.

I can’t explain why this heart is so “quietly happy”, it’s because the little needs that it has never asked for, never known, and never remembered are “being fulfilled one by one”.

It is very cool to go to Wudalianchi in the summer. The lake water is blue, the sky is clear, and the volcanic rocks are of various shapes. You can also taste the local Northeastern cuisine. It is a great place for vacation.
