Erqi Memorial Tower

The Erqi Memorial Tower was built in 1971. It is located in the center of the Erqi Square. The tower is a double-star parallel concrete structure. This tower was built to commemorate the Beijing-Hankou Railway Workers' Movement in 1923. It is the place where the leaders of the Zhengzhou Railway Workers, Wang Shengyou and Si Wende, died.

The design of the memorial is very special. From one side, it looks like two towers, and from the other side, it looks like one tower. We wanted to go in and visit, but when we arrived, there was already a long queue at the entrance. Maybe it was because we had been away from the crowd for too long, I really didn't want to squeeze into the crowd to queue, so Xiao and I decided to just take some photos and check in at the square, and not go in.

I went there ten years ago. There was of course the February 7th Memorial Exhibition inside, and I saw some photos that I had seen in history books. I don’t know who designed the twin towers. If both towers had seven floors each, it would be far-fetched, but in fact, that’s not the case.

Important historical sites and representative buildings in modern times have always been a useless existence in national protection, and their historical significance is greater than the value of the cultural relics themselves. However, the Erqi Memorial Tower is the symbol of Zhengzhou City after all, so I still have to come and check in. It’s just that because Zhengzhou is about to hold the National Games, the Erqi Tower is being cleaned and is not open to the public.

It felt like that. It was the Mid-Autumn Festival when I went there. There were so many people. You can go inside the tower to visit. It is free to visit with your ID or student ID. If you are interested, you can go in and take a look. But I think the night view may be better.
