Xiangshan Temple is also built on the mountain, and is named after the abundance of fragrant kudzu. It was first built in the first year of Xiping in the Northern Wei Dynasty, and was rebuilt during the reign of Emperor Wu. Its magnificence can still be seen today. The story of "composing poems in Xiangshan and winning brocade robes" happened here. After that, Bai Juyi also rebuilt Xiangshan Temple and called himself "Xiangshan Layman". It was not until the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty that it was rebuilt. Emperor Qianlong visited Xiangshan Temple and praised "Among the ten temples in Longmen, Xiangshan is the best", which was engraved on a stone tablet and erected in the Qianlong Imperial Tablet Pavilion of Xiangshan Temple. There is a two-story building in the temple, where Chiang Kai-shek and Soong Mei-ling spent their summers many times, and it is called "Chiang-Song Villa".

By Go your own way |

The more famous places in Xiangshan Temple include the Chiang-Soong Villa. Chiang Kai-shek and Soong Mei-ling came here many times to escape the summer heat and hold military meetings. You can climb up the stone steps on the west side step by step. The steps are very steep and it takes a lot of physical strength to get up to the platform in front of the villa. To the west across the Yi River is the West Mountain Grottoes, and to the south is the East Mountain Grottoes. The scenery around the villa is charming and extremely quiet.

By Meimei |

Passing through the entrance of Xiangshan Temple, you can see the silhouette of Chiang and Song's villa. In order to celebrate Chiang Kai-shek's 50th birthday, this two-story building was built in Longmen Xiangshan. Chiang Kai-shek and Song Meiling had spent the summer here many times. Chiang Kai-shek was very good at choosing places. This place is surrounded by mountains and rivers, and the scenery is excellent. Moreover, it had not been developed into a tourist attraction at that time. It was quiet and peaceful, with the artistic conception of "no one can be seen in the empty mountain, but the sound of people's voices can be heard". It was definitely the best place to escape from the world.

Located on the east bank of the Yi River in the Longmen Grottoes Scenic Area, next to the East Grottoes, the ticket is included in the ticket for the Grottoes. Looking at the west bank, the scenery is very beautiful. Xiangshan Temple has a long history. It was renovated during the Wu Zetian period. Bai Juyi later donated money to rebuild it. Bai Juyi liked it very much and called himself Xiangshan Layman. He was buried in Baiyuan next to Xiangshan Temple. There is a two-story building that is the Chiang-Song Villa, built to celebrate Chiang Kai-shek's birthday.

Longmen Xiangshan Temple is located in the west valley of Xiangshan, 13 kilometers south of Luoyang, the ancient capital of 13 dynasties, and is close to the Longmen Grottoes.

There weren't many people when I came to the Xishan Grottoes, and the weather was pretty good.

The former residence of Bai Juyi, a lay Buddhist in Xiangshan, not only allows one to experience the scenery of Songshan Mountain, but also allows one to appreciate Bai Juyi's culture. It also has an important and irreplaceable position in the history of Chinese Buddhism and Guanyin culture.

By A Hao can't get fat |

It is on the East Mountain of Longmen. The temple is not big, but it is worth a visit. Chiang Kai-shek and Soong Mei-ling lived here for a while.

By Stars and Silent Night |

An ancient temple with a long history. There is Chiang Kai-shek's villa inside. The Buddhist temple and the style of the Republic of China complement each other. It was a bit tiring to climb the mountain, but fortunately the mountain is not high and the physical strength is still enough.

By 檡~ |

In general, the Chiang and Song villas are more worth visiting than the Xiangshan Temple itself...

Although Xiangshan Temple is an ancient temple, it looks no different from other newly built temples...

Xiangshan Temple is located on the hillside of Longmen East Mountain. Its architecture is simple and sturdy, hidden among the green pines and cypresses. It is separated from the world cultural heritage - Longmen Grottoes West Mountain Caves, across the river, and is connected to the Longmen Grottoes East Mountain Caves and Baiyuan, standing side by side.

Xiangshan Temple and Xishan Grottoes are located across the river from each other. It is very hot outside, but it is very cool in the temple. There is no need for air conditioning in the room.

2018.8.13 The grandfather and his wife visited Longmen Grottoes and crossed the Longmen Bridge to the Dongshan Grottoes Scenic Area. Xiangshan Temple is located on the mountainside, which is also the origin of Bai Juyi's nickname Xiangshan Jushi; the great poet Bai liked Xiangshan Temple very much, so when he died, he deliberately wanted to be buried nearby;

Xiangshan Temple is adjacent to the Longmen Grottoes West Hill Caves, facing each other across the river. There is also a Chiang-Song Villa in the temple, which was built to celebrate Chiang Kai-shek's 50th birthday. Chiang Kai-shek and his wife, Soong Mei-ling, came here many times to escape the summer heat.

Xiangshan Temple is located in the Longmen Grottoes area, in the middle of the east bank of the river. As a temple, it is a pity that it is overshadowed by a house where Chiang Kai-shek briefly lived. However, the original Xiangshan Temple during the Wu Zetian period no longer exists, so it is normal that people are not interested in this recent replica.

By Swirling Water |

There are also villas of Chiang Kai-shek and Soong Mei-ling.

Chiang Kai-shek really understood how to live in those times of war and conflict.

Meilu in Lushan, Chiang and Song’s villas in Xiangshan Temple, Guiyuan in Shantou, etc.

Xiangshan Temple is built on the mountain, with a wide view.

You can overlook the Xishan Grottoes opposite, as well as the Yi River and Longmen Bridge.

Although it is far smaller than the Shaolin Temple, it also looks very exquisite.

Qianlong wrote a passage here, so there is an imperial stele pavilion.

Likewise, the glazed tile roofs of the temples, the snow, the bare branches, the clear air,

Once again I appreciated the beauty of a sunny winter day in the north.

I had originally planned to visit Xiangshan Temple, but unexpectedly I didn't make it. Fortunately, when I was at the Xishan Grottoes, I took some photos of Xiangshan Temple from a distance across the Yishui River.

Xiangshan Temple is located in the west depression of Xiangshan Mountain, 13 kilometers south of Luoyang, the ancient capital of 13 dynasties. It is separated from the world cultural heritage - Longmen Grottoes West Mountain Caves, and faces it across the river. It is also connected with Longmen Grottoes East Mountain Caves and Baiyuan, and stands side by side with them. It got its name because of the abundant production of Pueraria lobata.

We continued along the tourist road and arrived at the third attraction, Xiangshan Temple. There were many local old ladies selling Buddha statues on the roadside. A small Buddha statue was only 50 cents. They were really conscientious sellers. Xiangshan Temple felt like a place to pray for blessings, with many beautiful wish cards hanging. On one side of the temple, there was also a Chiang-Song villa.

During the Qingming Festival in 2018, I spent two days in Luoyang. On April 5, I visited the Longmen Grottoes in the rain.

The grottoes scenic area includes the Geological Museum, Xishan Grottoes, Dongshan Grottoes, Xiangshan Temple and Baiyuan. Of course, the most famous one is Xishan Grottoes. No matter the scale, number, exquisiteness, etc. of the grottoes, they are the best among all the scenic spots, especially the Vairocana Buddha in Fengxian Temple. Dongshan Grottoes are smaller in scale and seriously damaged. There are many introductions to the scenic spots on the Internet. It is recommended to listen to the explanations when you visit, otherwise you will only see a large number of grottoes and Buddha statues.

Xiangshan Temple has a long history dating back more than 1,400 years. It is next to the Dongshan Grottoes and built on the mountain. It is exquisite in its cramped space. It is said that Bai Juyi, the "Xiangshan Layman", donated 600,000 to 700,000 strings of cash for the renovation. Wu Zetian once visited the temple to view the scenery and review memorials. For details, please refer to the online encyclopedia, which will no longer take up space. But now it is just a tourist attraction. It is very crowded when there are many people, so please pay attention to safety.

Looking at West Mountain from East Mountain is indeed the best angle.

Due to the cramped space on site, steep steps, slippery weather on rainy days, and dense crowds, please remember not to walk when taking pictures, and not to take pictures when walking.

By Runci is not at home |

Famous people, famous mountains, famous temples, precious mountains, precious waters and precious lands are the reasons why the incense is so strong. The temple at dusk, without the hustle and bustle, has a different flavor.

Xiangshan Temple is located in the west of Xiangshan Mountain, 13 kilometers south of Luoyang, the ancient capital of 13 dynasties. It is adjacent to the world cultural heritage site, the West Mountain Caves of Longmen Grottoes, and is connected to the East Mountain Caves of Longmen Grottoes and Baiyuan. Xiangshan is named after the abundance of fragrant kudzu. Today, Xiangshan Temple draws on the style of the Tang Dynasty and repairs, preserves and protects the Jiang and Song Buildings, the Qianlong Imperial Stele Pavilion, and the Yibo Pagoda as historical relics. A new bell tower, drum tower, and main hall were built on the original site, and the Heavenly King Hall, Arhat Hall, and walking trails were renovated.

Located in the east of Longmen, it faces the Longmen Grottoes. Xiangshan Temple is located on the hillside of the East Mountain of Longmen. Its architecture is simple and sturdy, and is hidden among the green pines and cypresses. The temple was first built in the first year of Xiping in the Northern Wei Dynasty (516 AD). In the first year of Tianshou in the Tang Dynasty (after 690 AD), Wu Sansi, the King of Liang, requested Wu Zetian to rebuild it and officially named it "Xiangshan Temple". At that time, Xiangshan Temple had "dangerous buildings cutting into the Han Dynasty, flying pavilions reaching the sky, seven niches of stone statues, and an octagonal pagoda".

Bai Juyi was nostalgic for this landscape. When his good friend Yuan Zhen passed away, he wrote an epitaph for him, and Yuan Zhen's family gave him a generous reward. He donated all the rewards he received, rebuilt Xiangshan Temple in the name of Yuan Zhen, and personally wrote an article "Records of the Renovation of Xiangshan Temple", creating a tourist attraction at the time. After retirement, he lived in the temple, called himself Xiangshan Jushi, and was determined to end his life here.

There is not much to see in Xiangshan Temple itself, mainly because the signs of recent restoration are too severe. Instead, it was the Nine Elders Hall that caught my attention.

The Hall of Nine Elders records the group "Nine Elders of Xiangshan" formed by Bai Juyi after he was over 70, together with the old men Hu Gao, Ji Jiao, Zheng Ju, Liu Zhen, Lu Zhen, Zhang Hun, and later centenarian Li Yuanshuang and 95-year-old Zen master Ruman. They created many poems praising Longmen landscape and Xiangshan Temple, and became the best spokespersons and promoters of Xiangshan Temple.

The 136-year-old Li Yuanshuang broke my mindset. Who says that old people can only sit on the couch and do nothing? At his age, he still travels in the mountains and writes poetry!

By Jiang Yanyan |

The temples are quite ordinary and the tourist traffic order is not good.

By qingting19 |

Xiangshan Temple and Bai Garden are both closely related to Bai Juyi. Bai Juyi, known as Xiangshan Jushi in his later years, lived on the top of Longmen Mountain. It was in such mountains and waters that the ancients cultivated their temperaments and expressed their feelings.

The Longmen Grottoes pass includes attractions. After visiting the grottoes, you will go to Xiangshan Temple. You can scan the QR code of the attraction to learn more.

By Lexi Liu |

Xiangshan Temple is very small, but it has all the necessary functions, you can burn incense, ring the bell to pray, and receive blessing tablets, etc. The highlight I think should be the Chiang and Song villas, where you can visit the place where Chiang Kai-shek and his wife once lived.

By Qirui Lotte |

This scenic spot is located in the eastern area of Longmen Grottoes. The scenery is very beautiful, and the Chiang and Song villas are worth seeing. There is a place where the steps are a bit steep. Although it is not long, the elderly need to pay attention.

By memory of wind |

The tree-lined road in Xiangshan Temple, with its red walls and green trees, is completely different from the grottoes on the opposite bank. One looks like a weathered old man, while the other is a beautiful girl.

By Black Horse |

"Xiangshan Temple" is built on the mountain. The terrain is steep and narrow, so the building appears small and exquisite. It is surrounded by ancient trees and is extremely quiet. It has extremely profound cultural connotations. If you have time, you should come and have a look. It only takes half an hour to take a quick look.

To the west of the platform in front of the Heavenly King Hall is a cliff, below which is the rippling Yi River, with willows swaying in the wind. The Longmen Grottoes to the west of the Yi River are truly a picture scroll of water and mountains, stillness and movement, giving people a sense of peace and tranquility. No wonder the great poet Bai Juyi indulged in the mountains and waters of Longmen, admired the seclusion of Xiangshan Temple, called himself Xiangshan Jushi, and lived here in seclusion in his later years; Empress Wu Zetian once left behind the eternal story of "writing poems in Xiangshan and winning brocade robes"; Emperor Qianlong once visited Xiangshan Temple and praised "Among the ten temples in Longmen, Xiangshan is the best"...

It seems like all the things I photographed were weird: a silly and cute toad, a dragon with a strange shape... In fact, the Chiang Kai-shek and Song Yi's former residence here is a Republican-style building, and it is a good place to take pictures. I happened to meet a girl whose dressing style matched the style here, so I quietly took a picture of her back, she was very beautiful.

The ticket to Xiangshan Temple is included in the ticket to Longmen Grottoes. You need to punch the ticket to enter Xiangshan Temple with the ticket of Longmen Grottoes. There is a bell tower and a drum tower inside, and the bells are rung every hour. Xiangshan Temple in Longmen Grottoes was once where Soong Mei-ling and Chiang Kai-shek lived. The geographical location is absolutely good, facing the Xishan Grottoes across the Yi River. After Xiangshan Temple was rebuilt in 1936, a two-story building was built in the temple to celebrate Chiang Kai-shek's 50th birthday. Chiang Kai-shek and Soong Mei-ling spent many summer vacations here. This small building is located on the southeast side of Xiangshan Temple and is also known as the "Chiang-Song Villa".

By Wanqing |

Xiangshan Temple is almost entirely newly built.

The palace courtyard is not prominent.

The Yang Chengwu Memorial Hall only exhibits a few photos.

Nothing impressive.

There is also a stone tablet in which Emperor Qianlong praised the temples in Longmen as follows: "Among the ten temples in Longmen, Xiangshan Temple is the best."

Engraved on the Imperial Pavilion,

It is said to be more than 200 years old, which makes it a relatively ancient cultural relic.

The story of Wu Zetian "composing poems at Xiangshan and winning a brocade robe"

The river has flowed eastward,

The waves have washed away everything!

There are always many unforgettable memories in travel, and that scene often appears in the days that follow. Xiangshan Temple is one of them. The ticket is included in the ticket for Longmen Grottoes. You can get there by following the instructions from Dongshan Grottoes. On the way, you can see the scenery of Xishan Grottoes, which is very nice. The ancient temple is located on the hillside of Dongshan. The architecture is simple and thick, hidden among the green pines and cypresses. Following the instructions at the entrance, you need to climb a flight of steps. Inside are the Heavenly King Hall and the Great Hall of the Buddha, which are very popular. Sitting in this small pavilion, watching the Yi River flowing quietly between Longmen Mountain and Xiangshan, traveling always gives people infinite reverie, makes the heart fly and makes everything wonderful...

By Month |

After coming down from the Dongshan Grottoes, we took a break and then continued to climb the Xiangshan Temple. It is said that there are more than a hundred steps. When I heard that, my legs felt a little weak and I almost had no strength left, but since I was here, I had to go to all of them.

It is said that Xiangshan Temple has been rebuilt many times, and there are many allusions, from the bell tower, drum tower, main hall, Chiang and Song villas to the Qianlong imperial stele pavilion. Standing on a high place, blowing the natural wind, looking at the Ximen Grottoes across the Yi River, a beautiful scene has passed through many dynasties.

1. The recommended tourist route of Xiangshan Temple is: South Walking Trail---Lotus Pond---Bell Tower, Drum Tower---Heavenly King Hall---Arhat Hall---Stone Tower---Nine Elders Hall---Observation Deck---Main Hall---Qianlong Imperial Stele Pavilion---Jiang and Song Villas---Bell Ringing.

2. You can ring the bell inside Xiangshan Temple, which is the source of the melodious bell sounds you hear in Longmen Grottoes, but the fee is 10 yuan for three times.

3. Xiangshan Temple provides amulets for people to pray for, 15 yuan each. You can write your wishes on them and hang them in the temple. The problem is that you may find that you can't find a place to hang them after you buy them, because the places where they are easier to hang are already full.

4. There is another place worth visiting: Chiang-Song Villa. This was built by Chairman Chiang and Madame Soong Mei-ling when they were on vacation at Xiangshan Temple. The interior decoration is very unique.

5. I think the rooftop of the Chiang-Song Villa is a very suitable place for taking photos. You can see the panoramic view of the Xishan Grottoes, and there is basically no one. When you go up, you need to talk to the staff. If you have a good attitude, they generally won't refuse you.

It is also a scenic spot included in the Longmen Grottoes package. It was cloudy that day and it was blurry from a distance.

By Xiaoxian 2010 |

Xiangshan Temple is a scenic spot in the Longmen Grottoes Scenic Area, on the east side of the river, that is, the Dongshan Grottoes. Compared with the Xishan Grottoes, there are definitely fewer tourists at Xiangshan Temple. It may be because I went there in the off-season, so the incense in the temple is not so popular. In addition to some temples, there are also Chiang and Song villas at Xiangshan Temple. Some temples were newly built in modern times. Xiangshan Temple is halfway up the mountain and requires a climb, but it is not very high. It is said that Bai Juyi once donated money to rebuild Xiangshan Temple~

It has some connection with Bai Juyi, and there are also Qianlong's poems, the stone tower where Wu Zetian and her ministers wrote poems to win the brocade robe, and the Jiang and Song villas. It is worth a visit

Xiangshan Temple is a scenic spot in Longmen Grottoes. The temple is not big, but it is still very exquisite. It was the palace of Mr. Chiang Kai-shek and Soong Mei-ling. Some epics are displayed inside, and the protection is still intact.

The scenery is beautiful and the views are pleasant, but there is nothing special about it.

Xiangshan Temple is not very big and seems very quiet. Next to the temple is Chiang Kai-shek's villa.

It is a very quiet and beautiful place. No wonder the poet wanted to be buried here after his death.

Xiangshan Temple is one of the four scenic spots in Longmen Grottoes that need to be checked in. The temple is built on the mountain, covers a small area, has a rigorous structure, and looks very popular. After visiting the West Mountain Grottoes and the East Mountain Grottoes, we were very tired, but how could we not go into such a historic place. We insisted on climbing the stone steps to the highest point and visited the Chiang and Song villas. I feel that Xiangshan Temple has been renovated very well and well protected, and it is worth visiting here.

By Spirit |

I thought the Xiangshan Temple, which was so popular with Wu Zetian and Bai Juyi, would be great, but after climbing up, I was a little disappointed. There were only a few temples rebuilt during the Qing Dynasty. But it was still amazing when the lights were turned on at night.

By Lingli |

Xiangshan Temple is small and exquisite, and it is even more famous for its rich cultural atmosphere. Bai Juyi, also known as Xiangshan Jushi, lived here in his later years; Empress Wu Zetian once left a story of "writing poems in Xiangshan and winning brocade robes"; Emperor Qianlong once visited Xiangshan Temple and praised it as "among the ten temples in Longmen, Xiangshan is the best"...

In addition to West Hill and East Hill, the ticket for Longmen Grottoes also includes two other attractions, one of which is Xiangshan Temple.

Xiangshan Temple is located halfway up Dongshan Mountain. It requires climbing a flight of stairs to reach it. Although I was a little tired, I still insisted on climbing up in order not to waste money.

Thanks to my persistence, I was able to see the words "Buddha is in the heart". It is magical that such simple words can calm one's heart.

The white jade steps in front of the main hall are filled with prayer cards, carrying the good wishes of the people praying, forming a red ocean. When the wind blows, the wooden cards collide with each other, making crisp sounds.

By Stone Sea |

The temple is not big. It was first built in the Northern Wei Dynasty, flourished in the Wu Zhou Dynasty, was abandoned in the late Yuan Dynasty, and was rebuilt during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty. It became deserted again in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China. It was rebuilt in 1936. A two-story building was built in the temple to celebrate Chiang Kai-shek’s 50th birthday, which was called the "Chiang-Song Villa."

By Hidden Dragon Do Not Use |

Xiangshan Temple is located on the hillside of Xiangshan Mountain next to the Dongshan Grottoes. From here you can see the Xishan Grottoes and the Yishui River. The environment is quiet and peaceful, making it a good place to cultivate your body and mind.

You still have to climb the mountain to get to Xiangshan Temple, which is not easy. I bought a popsicle when I climbed up, but I couldn't stand it anymore. I was so tired and sunburned. There is nothing to see in Xiangshan Temple.

By Caroline Momo |

There is a villa built for Chiang Kai-shek and his wife, so we decided to go up and take a look. The air is fine. Looking back at the Longmen Bridge from Xiangshan Temple, the bridge feels so spectacular. It would be great to live here.
