Hanyang Zao

The abandoned industrial factory building used was originally part of the Hanyang Arsenal and 824 Factory during China's Westernization Movement.
The park covers a small area, and most of it is made up of office buildings. Apart from that, graffiti, performance art, and creative sculptures can be seen everywhere.
A model of old industrial transformation into commercial and artistic creation park, which is novel and innovative enough for artists to give full play to their unlimited creativity and imagination.

【Hanyang Art District】

There are many cultural relics in Hanyang, such as Guiyuan Temple, Guqin Terrace, Qingchuan Pavilion, Guishan, etc., which are all well-known. However, there is also an important historical relic of modern times here. If you are not careful, you will not be discovered. That is Zhang Zhidong’s Hanyang Arsenal and the famous Hanyang-made ironwork. No one should be unaware of it.

The Hanyang Art District is located at the foot of Hanyang Guishan Mountain. If you walk in from a road next to the west gate of Guishan Park, you will see a gas station with the red sign next to it. In the past, this was the site of the Hanyang Arsenal. Later, it became several factories and now it has become an art district.

When we entered the factory, the sun was setting. Under the golden sunlight, the carefully decorated buildings looked particularly fashionable and artistic. All the rigid industrial civilization, under the influence of art, suddenly became gentle and beautiful, making you forget what they looked like in the past.

Guibei Road under Guishan Mountain is 3.5 kilometers long. At that time, the Wuhan 824 Factory (formerly the Parrot Tape Factory), Hanyang Special Vehicle Manufacturing Factory, Wuhan Second Printing and Dyeing Factory and Wuhan National Cotton Factory were lined up on the roadside. Going back in time, this was the location of the Hanyang Arsenal and Hanyang Iron Works established in the late Qing Dynasty.

This art block is just one of those small factories, and it is also the outermost one, located at the deepest part of Guibei Road. Looking down from Guishan Mountain, you can see dilapidated factory buildings and occasionally the sound of steel knocking. Compared with the big factories with chimneys and workshops in the past, it is just a drop in the ocean.

It is no exaggeration to say that Hanyang Zao is an artist's paradise. There are too many imaginative products of artists here. As an art district, of course there are many styles to experience. Graffiti full of European and American street style can be found in any alley. In the Hanyang Zao Art District, there are exquisite sculptures one after another, which are dazzling. When I got here, I found that steel also has its artistic side. They look cool on the outside, but they quietly exude the unique charm of this city. Although there is no beauty of mountains and rivers here, it also has its unique modern charm.

The Hanyang-made train was the most disappointing part of this trip to Wuhan.

I took a taxi there in the evening. The driver asked me if I was going there for business. I said I was going there for sightseeing. The driver looked puzzled and said there was nothing fun there. It turned out that what the driver said was right. There was really nothing fun there.

The "Hanyang-made" Art District, also known as the "824 Creative Factory", is an abandoned industrial factory used by the art district. It was originally part of Zhang Zhidong's Hanyang Arsenal and the 824 Factory during the Westernization Movement.

Abandoned industrial factory, a bit like Beijing's 798 Art Park. Went there in the evening, almost no one was there, a bit deserted. Nice for taking photos.

By Yu Da Gou |

Very good, I recommend you to go there if you have time.

By Forget the Moon |

There weren't many people. Some streets seemed like there were only my friend and I. However, some of the decorations were quite interesting.

By Graceful Makiori |

The overall place is not big, and there are mostly some design and wedding photography shops. Although there are many places to take pictures, there are relatively few places to eat. Graffiti, performance art, creative sculptures can be seen everywhere in the park. There are also wedding photography shops, cafes, wine cellars, pottery galleries, creative shops, and a LOFT youth hostel...

Perhaps every city has such a place, which is novel, innovative and artistic enough for artists to unleash their unlimited creativity and imagination. With fresh design and architecture, there are not many food shops, but more companies or service shops. There are various shops full of literary and artistic atmosphere, accompanied by historical sites with hundreds of years of history. It used to be a place for making firearms, but now it has become an art district. With the changing times, can the former glory be reborn?

Compared to the prosperity and bustle of Beijing's 798, Hanyangzao is indeed a little deserted. I didn't see any film and art exhibitions along the way, only some photography studios and tourists who came to take pictures. However, the sculptures and various handicraft shops scattered around the corners still give this art district a shining independent soul. Various vivid and exaggerated cartoons and graffiti are painted on the abandoned walls. Most of the shops are decorated with roses and creepers, and the orange-red brick and tile walls are used as a background, full of natural atmosphere.

Many cities have their own creative parks, such as Beijing's 798, Chengdu's Dongjiao Memory, and Wuhan's Hanyangzao. Although they all have something in common, each city's creative park will always have its own unique side, after all, creativity is unlimited.

Travel suggestions: There are many popular online stores with a strong Instagram style in Hanyangzao, but you need to make a purchase to take photos. If you like to explore stores, you can consider it. If you don’t have too many requirements, you can just walk around the park. There are enough places for taking photos.

Hanyangzao is an advertising creative park. Apart from some internet-famous coffee shops and dessert shops, there are very few restaurants. The main purpose of coming here is to take photos.

After walking past the long graffiti wall on the right side of the park entrance, there is a green avenue. Going up further, you will leave the park.

The entire creative park is full of graffiti culture. You can find graffiti on any wall.

Looking closely at the graffiti-covered wall, you can see that the paint has some cracks and is peeling off.

Many places in the park are suitable for taking photos. The contrast and collision of colors naturally create a unique sense of picture.

The red walls are intertwined with the endless green creepers. There are also abandoned bicycles and signboards that look deliberately old. There are white-painted motorcycles hanging in the air. Office workers walk through the red wall covered with creepers. There are also small shops with bold colors.

Take the "Dianwu Road" bus from Renshou Road to Qintai Park on Yingwu Avenue. Walk about 800 meters, and the first thing that catches your eye is the graffiti wall made in Hanyang. When you enter, you will be a little confused because there is a gas station. Walk inside. The art area is not big, but it is quite exquisite. For example, the details are well done. As I walked, I was actually scared by the sculptures on the roof, as well as coffee shops with different styles. There were not many people on National Day. Recommendation index: three stars. The reason why I don’t strongly recommend this place is that I think the graffiti wall is too ordinary, and the gas station at the gate is very distracting. The scope is a bit small and you can finish the tour in about a quarter of an hour. But! It is very close to Qingchuan Pavilion, only one stop away, and next to it is Guqintai. It has a unique geographical location. I don’t understand why it is still a niche check-in point (there are really few people on National Day)

The scenery of Hanyang is quite good, but there are few people, but it is worth a visit

Very quiet place, good for relaxing.

The graffiti art district is a great place for taking photos. It's close to Qingchuan Pavilion and Guishan Mountain. It feels good. I like this place very much.

By Mulinsen |

I spent an hour in Vinyl Planet. The coffee was good and the sound system was good. There are not many photo spots in the park.

By Otaku Loves Traveling |

It is an art center similar to Beijing's 798, a great place for taking photos. There are many beautiful photos that must be taken. Hanyang Art District is not very large, and you can almost get everything done in one morning. This is a holy place for appointment shooting and wedding photography.

By 23 |

After coming out of Qingchuan Pavilion, walk along Guishan Mountain and you will reach Hanyangzuo.

Walking + cycling, about 1 hour.

The abandoned industrial factory buildings used in the art district were originally part of Zhang Zhidong's Hanyang Arsenal and Factory 824 during China's Westernization Movement.

The place is not big, and it is mostly filled with design and wedding photography shops.

There are more places to take photos and fewer places to eat.

I walked around for about 45 minutes.

Perhaps every city has such a place, which is novel enough, innovative enough, and literary enough for artists to give full play to their unlimited creativity and imagination.

Hanyangzao was renovated from the Hanyang Arsenal, which was sponsored by Zhang Zhidong during the Westernization Movement. It is similar to 798 in Beijing, but much smaller in scale and fame. Various vivid and exaggerated cartoons are painted on the abandoned walls. The shops are mostly decorated with roses and creepers, and the orange-red brick walls are used as a backdrop, full of natural atmosphere. In addition to the fragrance of plants and trees, there is also the aroma of cooked rice. It is undoubtedly a foodie.

By Xu Ayu |

The location is easy to find. Most people come here to take pictures. There are many office buildings inside. I can't feel the historical atmosphere at all. Maybe my nose is not sensitive, haha.

By Lily Zhang's Castle |

I thought it was a literary and artistic area, but actually it belongs to the innovation area. It has great design and concept. I like it very much.

By "Lazy 🍭 lazy" |

Hanyang Zaojiang is really suitable for taking photos. Many people take wedding photos here. It is similar to Tanhualin, but the food is not as much as Tanhualin.

By Lady Ying |

I thought it was an art community with beautiful coffee shops, bookstores and gift shops everywhere, but in fact, most of them are office buildings. Probably because they are all art companies, there are some graffiti on the walls, some unique sculptures, and a few coffee shops. It seems that the shops here all have a cool sign saying "Buy first and take pictures later". Fortunately, it was raining and the shops were closed. No one cared about taking pictures. Anyway, you can take pictures if you want to get wet. Well, I still went to take pictures.

There is a statue of a man sticking his butt out and blowing air, which is really funny. Many people took photos imitating this action. The most famous one should be a coffee shop converted from a container, which is pink and full of girlishness. Generally speaking, if it doesn't rain, it's okay to take pictures and drink coffee, but if you are in a hurry, forget it.

By NeNe🍼 |

The nature of the art district is more like Beijing's 798 and Shenzhen's OCT. There are no art exhibitions, but more independent small companies working there. I remember one store selling vinyl records, because they put Mr. Turtle's self-titled album on the outside.

There is a coffee shop in a pink container. There is a blue Beetle at the door. The color is bright and suitable for internet celebrities to pose for photos and post on social media. Excuse me!

No matter what camera it is, be it a SLR or a Polaroid, the art district is indeed a good place for photography. At Best Joy, I saw a young lady changing her clothes and taking photos. She should be a model for a Taobao store. I thought it was really interesting that I might see her in a store when I go shopping on Taobao in the future.

By Raspberry |

It has the same background as Beijing 798, which is converted from some abandoned factories. But it is much smaller than 798, but there are also many art studios and galleries there, which is very artistic and suitable for taking pictures!

There are really a lot of young couples, and there are also many pretty young ladies who are great at taking photos!

By Nanako Joe |

Graffiti, creative sculptures, cafes, creative shops, etc. can be seen everywhere in the art park.

By ELENA✨ |

The abandoned industrial factory buildings used in the art district were originally part of Zhang Zhidong's Hanyang Arsenal and 824 Factory during the Westernization Movement in China. It feels similar to the 1905 Creative Park in Shenyang.

By Monkey 2's Day and Night |

I don't feel anything. The Hanyang-style building is not very big... If you don't really have to check it out, I personally don't recommend it.

By Thriving |

It is the original site of the Hanyang-zao factory, and now the factory workshop has been converted into an art district.

By Starry Sea |

Recommended reason: Discover it on your own. Go up two kilometers along the east side of Guishan Mountain and you will reach the Hanyang Art District. There are media companies, personal studios, wedding photography shops, coffee shops, bars, restaurants and hotels in the community. It is a good place for taking photos and calling cats and dogs.

By Mortal Kang |

It took two hours to get out of Moyuan from Causeway Bay Plaza after getting off at Parrot Avenue. The quiet, literary and fresh style of Hanyang Zao softened my slightly impetuous heart.

By Jenny |

Fresh design and architecture, not many food shops, but mostly companies or service shops. Hanyangzao is a newly developed tourist art and cultural area in Wuhan, and also a historical site with a history of more than a hundred years. It used to make firearms, but now it has become an art district, where mainly artists are engaged.

By Ga |

As a half-advertiser, I walked in with reverence. I have to say it's really great to work here. My brain works better. There are still many unique buildings and small designs that surprise people everywhere. I like the murals here the most. Although street spray painting is common, the spray painting walls here are longer. I will encounter my favorite patterns from time to time as I walk along.

By Very Rare |

During the period when I went to the art district for work, it might be that the park was not prosperous or had not developed. I felt that the greenery was still good, but there was less artistic atmosphere, which was too different from the 798 in Beijing at that time (of course, 798 is not good now, and it is full of commercial atmosphere). There were mostly advertising companies in the park, and few personal studios (art studios), which were not open to the public. There were no small exhibition halls or art galleries. Although there were some sculptures in the park, it was still too few for such a large park. For an old man like me who has been visiting the National Art Museum of China since childhood and has been there for nearly 40 years, the artistic atmosphere in the park was average. In addition, there were restaurants, furniture stores, shopping stores, fruit cold storage, etc. in the park at that time. The youth hostel was pretty good. I don’t know if the current art district has developed. The project is good, but it is not good if it is too commercial, and it is easy to change.

By Time Walk |

I personally like places with this kind of feeling. I have been to 798 in Beijing several times, but this place is still a little worse than 798. There are almost no people here. It is very convenient to take pictures. Young artists who like to pose can come here to play.

◇◇◇Hanyangzao is a creative park, which was rebuilt from an old arsenal. There are many graffiti on the walls. The buildings also look very special, but they are actually houses of some companies. ◇◇◇

◆◆◆Yesterday's old factory building has been transformed into an advertising creative park today. The collision of fashionable and trendy creativity with old buildings has inspired a lot of passionate and special sparks. It's nice to just walk around and take a look, but basically there are only companies. There are not many restaurants, cafes, and small shops, and many of them are closed. ◆◆◆

Hanyang is smaller than 798, but not crowded. The architectural style is also loft + artistic. I think it is a good place to take photos.

By Ouyang Hongsen |

It's fine if you want to kill time when you have nothing to do, but I don't recommend making a special trip there.

It’s just a nicer looking office space.

By Gong Xiaochu |

Wuhan's 798 is a gathering place for art. Nowadays, the cultural industry is very popular. Any city without a cultural industry park is embarrassed to call itself a big city. Although it has its own characteristics, the atmosphere is still far from that of Beijing's 798.

By Icey |

The old factory was transformed into a creative work park, which is very unique! It is suitable for taking photos~~

By Lychee Season |

Hanyangzao Art District is supposed to be an art district like Beijing's 798, but Beijing has a unique flow of people and cultural resources, and other cities always have to work harder to build art districts. Compared with the prosperity and bustle of Beijing's 798, Hanyangzao is indeed a little deserted on rainy days. I didn't see many film and art exhibitions along the way (maybe I didn't observe carefully), only some photography studios and tourists who came to take pictures. But the sculptures scattered in the corners still give this art district a shining independent soul.

The "Hanyang Zao" Art District, also known as the "824 Creative Factory", is located at the foot of Guishan Mountain in Wuhan. The abandoned industrial factory buildings used by the art district were originally part of Zhang Zhidong's Hanyang Arsenal and 824 Factory during the Westernization Movement in China. "Hanyang Zao" represents China's "Industrial Revolution", so the "Hanyang Zao" Art District hopes to use the name of "Hanyang Zao" to ignite the development of culture and art in central China.

By souvenir |

The appearance of Hanyang Zao is far less than its reputation. It is just so-so. To be honest, this is a disappointing attraction. You can take a walk and have a look if you have time, but don't have too high expectations. It is just so-so inside.

I really like the three colors of lines on the ground in Hanyang Art Park. Each color represents a different route. The scenic spot map is also indicated by color. For example, if the toilet has a blue pattern, then follow the blue line.

To be honest, Hanyang Arsenal has "fallen" to the art community. It can be considered the Wuhan version of 798. But apart from the architecture, I don't think I can find any trace of Hanyang Arsenal.

Similar to Beijing 798, there are mostly studios and they are not open to visitors. If you have been to 798, there is no need to come here. If you have not been there, you can still take a look. It is very quiet and suitable for shooting literary and fresh films.

It's about an 8-minute walk from Zhongjiacun Station on Metro Line 4. There's a huge metal sign at the entrance. When we went there, there was a small exhibition and people were selling small gadgets along the street.

After walking around, I found that it is not very big. The only features are some not-so-outstanding graffiti and the old factory, as well as the remaining factory numbers. The renovated buildings are basically some businesses, selling home furnishings and so on, which is a bit out of place. But when I went there, I saw a wedding that was about to end. It was also interesting to hold a quiet wedding here.

It takes about 20 minutes to walk through. There are some small shops inside, which are closed during the National Day holiday. If you are interested, you can go in and sit down. I feel that the overall environment inside is quite close to nature~

Hanyangzao is an art district renovated from the old factory building of the former Hanyangzao Arsenal. The style inside is retro and artistic. It is very suitable for taking pictures in spring when the flowers are blooming. There are not many people here, and the greening inside is also well done. This time I went there just in time for the plums to ripen. There are many wedding dress shops inside, and there is also a hotel for wedding banquets. The environment is relatively quiet, close to the intersection of Guishan North Road and Yingwu Avenue, facing Guishan. It is worth a visit.
