As a museum, the Jianghan Customs is in a good state of overall preservation. It not only maintains the original interior and exterior architectural decoration style, but also has a nice-looking wooden handrail staircase.

At the same time, the central area on the second floor also restores and displays the status of the Jianghan Customs at that time, which is well worth a visit.

PS: Jianghan Customs is free to visit, but you must bring your ID card. No admission is allowed after 4pm, so please pay attention to the time if you go.

By Still speaking |

Walking into the Jianghan Customs Museum, the heavy bell sounds seem to still echo in your ears. This building, which combines a Gothic bell tower with a Renaissance style, makes you feel the intersection of time and space as soon as you step in - behind the revolving door, the marble floor is shiny, and the stained glass on the dome reflects colorful light spots in the sun. Next to the huge bronze bell model in the center of the first-floor hall, yellowed customs declarations, rusty customs seals, and old steamship models are neatly displayed, silently telling the busy past of the Jianghan Customs as an important gateway to the middle reaches of the Yangtze River in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China. As you go up the stairs, the wooden staircase makes a slight creaking sound. In the exhibition hall on the second floor, from trade contracts of merchants from various countries to the work tools of dock workers, from the telegraph machines of that time to the account books recording changes in tariffs, each exhibit connects the prosperous memory of Wuhan as the "crossroads of nine provinces", especially the huge old photo hanging on the wall. The scene of thousands of sails competing at the dock is facing the high-rise buildings on the modern river beach outside the window. As you gaze at it, you seem to hear the dialogue between history and the present. Even the air is filled with the unique atmosphere of the river and time.

Today, when electronic instruments dominate the world, this breathing living relic is still measuring time with its mechanical heartbeat. Next time you pass by Jianghan Road, remember to stop and listen to the love song that Old Hankou sings to the future with its metal vocal cords.

We arrived at the Jianghan Customs, but found that all four doors were closed. It turned out that we were a little late (16:50), and it stopped admitting visitors at 16:00. It was a bit regrettable. It is also good to check it out online. The museum's real-time 3D pictures and detailed introductions are just like being there in person.

The Jianghan Customs Building is an old building left over from the Western colonial period in the late Qing Dynasty. It is a typical British classical architectural style. As a landmark building in Wuhan, it has witnessed the vicissitudes of Wuhan over the past century.

Jianghan Customs has a total of five floors. Note that the entrance to the museum is on the side of the building.

It consists of a four-story main building and a five-story bell tower. Its exterior is built horizontally with large strips of granite, which is solid, elegant and very appealing.

I went there at noon, the sun was scorching and the temperature seemed to melt people. There were still newlyweds taking wedding photos in front of the building. I can only say I admire them!

In the late Qing Dynasty, the Treaty of Tianjin was signed, Hankou was opened as a port, and then the Jianghan Customs was established. With the prosperity of modern trade and shipping in Wuhan, the business of the Jianghan Customs grew rapidly, and the original office was not enough, so the Jianghan Customs Building was built.

After the founding of New China, the Jianghan Customs Building was used as the Wuhan Customs office building. It took three years to be converted into the current Jianghan Customs Museum.

When I came out of Wuhan Customs, I passed by the Jianghan Customs Museum. The building was very unique, and the wall tiles on the side were uneven, as if they had been specially carved. It was a pity that the Jianghan Customs Museum was not included in the itinerary. I hope I can have the opportunity to visit it next time.

Travel suggestions: The Jianghan Customs Museum is at the end of Jianghan Road Pedestrian Street, and the two attractions can be visited together.

The entire museum is actually not very large. Apart from the historical context that has been sorted out, most of the museum is a restoration of scenes, such as the office lobby of the time, the home furnishings in each small room, and so on.

Some small statues that recreate various characters of that time.

Standing on the balcony of the museum, you can have a panoramic view of the riverside scenery.

There is a terrace in the museum where you can sit down and rest your feet in the sun. When you look up, you can see the tower clock and the national flag.

The temporary exhibition held by the museum at that time was "The Age of Steam at Sea", co-organized with the China Maritime Museum. The exhibition displayed various objects needed for navigation, and explained in detail the specific purpose and usage of each object. It was simply a living version of the maritime encyclopedia.

The best place to take a photo is at the corner across the street, where cars don't drive. If you have a tripod for time-lapse photography, the background will be cleaner.

A pretty good museum, mainly about the modern history of Wuhan, and the outside is also suitable for taking pictures.

It was not open to the public when I came here before. Now it is called a museum and perhaps the interior has been renovated. This customs is an important cultural relic in modern Chinese history.

The Jianghan Customs Building is located at the intersection of Yanjiang Avenue and Jianghan Road in Hankou, Wuhan City, Hubei Province. After Hankou was opened as a port, the Qing government established a customs office in Hankou in 1862, named Jianghan Customs. The existing Jianghan Customs Building was completed in 1924. There will be a bell ringing every day on time.

The Jianghan Customs Building is not only a historical witness to the imperialist invasion of China, but also a major symbol of modern architecture in Wuhan. It has important historical and architectural artistic value.

This is a good place to take wedding photos. I didn't stay there for long, but I saw many people taking wedding photos. When I went there, I didn't go inside, which was a pity, but the night view here is good. If you want to take photos, you can try it.

Jianghan Customs is located at the intersection between Jianghan Road Pedestrian Street and Hankou River Beach. It can be said to be the core landmark of the old Hankou Concession. This building with Greek classical and European Renaissance architectural styles is always featured in the photos of locals’ wedding photos or large-scale events like the Wuhan Marathon.

On one side of Jianghan Customs is Jianghan Road, the old pedestrian street in Wuhan, and on the other side is the Haobai Nian Hotel and Jiangtan. It can be said that this is the most lively area in Wuhan. Entering the museum from the side door of Jianghan Customs, the G floor is a simple hall, and the exhibits are distributed on the first, second and third floors. Here are exhibits of the appearance of the old customs and old concessions in modern Wuhan and the history of changes in the lives of citizens. At the same time, there are irregular special exhibitions in the exchange exhibition hall on the third floor of the exhibition hall. What we just saw was the Western Wind Spreading Eastward: Zhejiang Society under the European and American Rains.

This is a great place to bring your children to learn about history or share memories of the changes in life in Wuhan with friends.

There is a sky garden in the middle of the second floor. This terrace is for tourists to rest. Looking up at the clock tower from the terrace is particularly intimate. When I was growing up by the Hankou River, I often sang "The East is Red" along with the bells. Now the music has been changed to the original "Westminster" in 1924.

The museum is just after the Han River Pedestrian Street. There is a good century-old hotel next door. There are few collections in the museum, which is helpful for understanding the trade of the Han River in the past. The building itself is fragmented and no longer looks like it used to be.

If you are near, you can take a look at it. It is not worth going there specially for me. Instead, the surrounding buildings are worth paying attention to. However, the surrounding areas of the pedestrian street have been transformed into large supermarkets, which is a bit intoxicating.

By Yang Yang Yang |

Although I didn't go into the museum to visit, the appearance of the museum gave me a feeling of the Republic of China period. When I was standing in front of the museum taking pictures, I suddenly felt like I was traveling through time and space, as if the people walking in front of the door were all handsome boys in Zhongshan suits and ladies in cheongsams. Wuhan is indeed a city with a rich cultural heritage!

Jianghan Customs was the General Taxation Bureau in the Hankou Concession area in modern times. It has been preserved as a museum, recording the vicissitudes of the Jianghan area since modern times. The European Renaissance architectural style and the British clock tower have attracted many people to take wedding photos and street photos.

One of the four major customs houses in China, it is built in a Western style. The entrance is through the side door. The basic display tells the history of Wuhan's modernization, and the restored display introduces the business of Jianghan Customs. The decoration style inside is the Republic of China period. The doors, windows, floors, lights, etc. are all good places for taking photos. There are exhibits from various periods in the cabinet windows, and the clock tower will tell the time every hour.

Jianghan Customs is a landmark building in Wuhan. The bell tower building in Hankou Concession houses the Jianghan Customs Museum. The exhibits in the museum date from the late Qing Dynasty to the founding of New China. The museum itself is ancient history, and there is a different feeling when walking inside. The Jianghan Customs Museum is not big and can be visited in an hour. When I came out, I saw someone taking wedding photos here again. You can really take wedding photos everywhere in Wuhan.

Jianghan Customs Museum is located at No. 86 Yanjiang Avenue. Its predecessor was the Jianghan Customs Building, which was the Hankou Customs resident and the core building leased by Hankou. It is a witness to the opening of Hankou and a monument to the vicissitudes of Wuhan's history. It was not until 2012 that Wuhan Customs officially moved out of the Jianghan Customs Building. After several years of renovation, Jianghan Customs reappeared in front of the world with the ID card of the museum. The Jianghan Customs Museum is free to enter with an ID card. The museum is limited to 700 people, and there is no time limit for visiting during the opening hours. The museum has four floors, which introduce the glory, disgrace, rise and fall of the three towns and the development process of Wuhan in chronological order.

The Jianghan Customs Building is one of the landmark buildings in Wuhan, the core building of the Hankou Concession, and the tallest building in Wuhan at that time. The top of the bell tower is 83.8 meters above sea level. On November 4, 1922, the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Jianghan Customs, the Jianghan Customs Building held a groundbreaking ceremony, and was officially completed on January 21, 1924.

As a landmark building in Hankou and even Wuhan, Jianghan Customs has stood on the Hankou River Beach for a hundred years, but it has just been opened as a museum. This is the most worthwhile museum in Hankou. It not only completely restores the internal furnishings of Jianghan Customs, but also has a large number of cultural relics from the Hankou Concession in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China. Even if you don't like to see cultural relics, the Jianghan Customs Building is also the best place to appreciate the Hankou River Beach. Therefore, no matter what you choose, this is a place not to be missed.

By chendian2009 |

The venue is limited to 260 people, and you may need to wait during peak hours. I went there during the National Day holiday, and there were still many people, but it was okay compared to popular attractions. As the bee friend said, the museum not only has exhibits, but also character sculptures. The interior and exterior designs of the venue are exquisite, and even a small glass window is specially set up. The rooftop on the third floor of the exhibition hall overlooks the beautiful scenery of the Yangtze River, which is very open and beautiful. This museum mainly introduces the process of Wuhan's modernization. Wuhan's modernization is mainly attributed to the establishment of the Five-Power Lease, the Hubei New Deal in the early Qing Dynasty, and Zhang Zhidong's Westernization Movement also made great contributions. Wuhan is a heavy industrial city with a sense of history.

A highly recommended attraction with an excellent location, located at the intersection of Jianghan Road Pedestrian Street and Yanjiang Avenue, opposite the Jianghan Customs Wharf.

This is the customs office established after Hankou was forced to become a concession. The building is well preserved and can be compared to the Shanghai Bund International Building Complex! The entire Jianghan Customs has been transformed into a museum. The scenic spot service is absolutely five-star. Visitors can directly swipe their ID cards to enter for free, and they can also use free self-service lockers if they have luggage.

The Jianghan Customs Museum is not like other museums that just mindlessly display a bunch of "precious collections", but is very good at using statues and portraits to simulate scenes, trying to restore the scenes of the Jianghan Customs in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China. The biggest highlight is that there is a map that marks the famous old buildings of the Five Kingdoms Concessions in the form of flashing lights. If you like the old buildings in the concessions, you may want to check the map.

The core building of the Hankou Concession was established in November 1861. As a witness to the history of China's semi-colonial and semi-feudal society, it is also a carrier of China's transition from seclusion to openness and tolerance. After coming out of Qingchuan Pavilion, I couldn't find the direction of Guqin Terrace, so I rode a bicycle along the river and passed by Jianghan Customs Building, and I went back to the old times in a second. Jianghan Customs Building is probably also a popular location for wedding photos in Wuhan. Many newlyweds take wedding photos here, and there are colorful hydrogen balloons as background decorations. I really want to ask the couples who have already finished the photo shoot, balloons, do you still want them? The staff in the building are all wearing old clothes. Occasionally, I take a look and feel that the whole space has traveled through time. There are computers and real-life windows in the exhibition hall to simulate the entire customs declaration process. It feels quite cumbersome to follow the explanation for the first time.

This is a British classical building. It is a special museum with a single building as the main body, but it is a national key cultural relic protection unit. This building witnessed the opening of Wuhan, the humiliation suffered by the old society, and the development of New China and New Wuhan. Here we can not only understand the humanistic style of the old Wuhan Customs, but also appreciate the unique architectural style of the Jianghan Customs Building, and understand the historical features of the Hankou Concession and the changes in people's livelihood.
