Shennongding Scenic Area

It is a national nature reserve with a total area of about 883.6 square kilometers. It is based on a well-preserved forest natural ecosystem and is characterized by ecological diversity. It is one of the key scenic spots in Shennongjia. It is located in the nature reserve in the south of Shennongjia, with 6 peaks above 3,000 meters above sea level. Shennongding is the highest peak, with an altitude of 3,106.2 meters. It is known as the "roof of central China" and is also the highest peak in Hubei Province. It is also the most beautiful scenic spot in Shennongjia. We went here on the only sunny day of our trip. This is also the advantage of free travel, which can be arranged according to weather conditions.

In the past, when people talked about Shennongjia Scenic Area, they generally referred to the current Shennongding Scenic Area, but now it refers to Shennongjia World Geopark.



The Shennongjia Park scenic area includes six scenic areas: Shennongding, Dajiu Lake, Shennongtan, Tianshengqiao, Guanmen Mountain, and Tianyan. The main scenic areas are Shennongding and Dajiu Lake.



Shennongding Scenic Area is the main scenic area of Shennongjia, with a total area of 1,933 hectares. The main tourist route is from Yazikou to Taiziya, with a total length of 31km. Because the scenic area is large and has many attractions, it is suitable for self-driving (self-driving is allowed to enter the scenic area)



There are many scenic spots (or small scenic spots) on both sides of the more than 30-kilometer road in the Shennongding Scenic Area. In fact, some of the scenic spots are larger than other independent scenic spots.



Currently, the main attractions in the scenic area include: Dalongtan, Xiaolongtan, Jinhouling, Shennongyuan, Shennongying, Shennongding, Shennong Valley (Scenery Pass, Big Footprint Secret Valley), Lookout Tower, Tianjiling (Liangfeng Pass), Charming Pass, Banbi Rock, Taizi Pass, etc.



We stayed in Muyu Town and entered the scenic area from the Yazikou Gate. Self-driving is allowed, which is good.

The Jinhouling scenic spot includes two tourist areas: the primitive forest and the Jinhou Creek. There is a parking lot at the middle of the mountain and at the foot of the mountain.

Shennong Valley is a U-shaped valley. To visit Shennong Valley, you need to cross two peaks and a canyon. The entire journey is 4.4 kilometers, with an altitude difference of 258 meters and about 8,000 steps up and down the mountain.

The watchtower scenic spot is 2997.7 meters above sea level. The "Linhai Sentry Post" watchtower is 18.2 meters high. It is the highest building in central China and is known as the "No. 1 Sentry Post in Central China."

There is a stone tablet with the altitude of Shennongding at the foot of the tower, and the mountain not far away is Shennongding.

Banbi Rock Scenic Spot is 2,590 meters above sea level and is a typical karst landform.

The Taiziya scenic spot is 2,600 meters above sea level. It was named after Wu Zetian's Crown Prince Li Xian who once visited here. It is an important pass on the ancient Sichuan-Hubei Salt Road.



There are entrances at both ends of the Prince Trail. On a clear day, from the entrance of Sanxingtai, you can see the three provinces of Hubei, Shaanxi, and Sichuan (now Chongqing).

Shennongjia is the first "Triple Crown" heritage site in China to be included in the UNESCO Man and Biosphere Reserve, World Geopark and World Heritage protection systems. It is a tall mountain with towering peaks, stretching between the Yangtze River and the Han River, covering an area of 3,250 square kilometers. It is said that the ancient Shennong built a frame here to collect herbs.

The Shenlongjia Scenic Area is divided into six scenic areas: Shenlongding, Dajiu Lake, Guanmen Mountain, Tianyan, Tiansheng Bridge and Shennongtan.

When you come to Shennongjia, you must go to Shennongding. The scenery here is changeable and the layers are distinct, but you must check the weather. If the weather is bad, there will be a white fog and you can't see anything. It requires a lot of physical strength to complete the tour of Shennongding, so it is best to split it into two days.

Including Big Dragon Pond, Small Dragon Pond, Jinhou Ridge, Shennong Camp, Shennong Valley, Lookout Tower, Liangfengya, Charming Tip, Banbi Rock, Taiziya and other scenic spots, this scenic area is located halfway from Muyu to Dajiu Lake, with the Lookout Tower as the highest point, at an altitude of 2,950 meters. In fact, it is crossing the entire mountain of Shennongjia. There are many viewing platforms along the way with great scenery, but the top of the mountain is often filled with fog. The most regrettable thing about this trip is that the 2,999-step Qingyun Ladder of Shennong Camp is closed, and it is impossible to reach the roof of central China. However, Shennong Valley still left a very deep impression on me. There are nearly 8,000 steps up and down, and the scenery is like a dream. Although it is very cruel, it is worth it. It takes about 3 hours to tour Shennong Valley. It is a U-shaped valley. Going down from Shennong Valley, big footprints will appear. You can't go back, or you can go in the opposite direction. The fog on the top of the valley gathers and disperses, like a fairyland. In this season, only in Shennong Valley can you see a large number of alpine rhododendrons. Banbi Rock is 2,590 meters above sea level, with the alpine stone forest as its highlight. It takes 1 hour to visit and is a must-see for tour groups. Jinhou Ridge is famous for its streams, waterfalls and dense forests, and the tour takes 1-1.5 hours.

We wanted to go to the scenic spot to see it again, but the end point turned out to be back to the ticket hall. All those we passed along the way were the scenic spots of Shennongding. In the morning, the clouds and mist were lingering. Dad got off the car and took a few photos. We hurried on the road. Mom was praising the beautiful scenery all the way, saying that it looked like the earth's plates, but I, the driver, could only look at the road and had no time to take care of it. There were few cars and smooth traffic along the way, but the opposite direction was blocked and couldn't move. Who knew that we took the navigation to the ticket center, and when we asked, we found out that the road we just walked was all Shennongding Scenic Area, so we returned the same way.

Shennongding is far inferior to Shennong Valley! If you have to choose between the two, don't go to Shennongding! It's very ordinary and ordinary. The scenic area is very large, and private cars can drive up. If you don't want to walk, you can go around and breathe fresh air! Then the scenic area is not well planned. You can't stop at many scenic spots when you drive up, and you can't walk down if you want to. Then the instructions for the scenic spots are not clear, and you don't know where it is. Then the small attractions here have a feature. If there is a driver, the rest of the people go to the small attractions and walk directly to the next exit, and then the driver can take the road and wait at the next exit. If there is no driver, you have to walk back 😂😂, Shenlong Valley is so painful to go up and down, you must have a physical examination, and your legs will be deeply remembered!

This is a magical mountain climbing! The roof of Central China - Shennongding, with an altitude of 3106.2 meters, the Qingyun Ladder is 1588 meters long, with a vertical height of 426 meters from bottom to top and 2999 steps! It is still a bit tiring to climb up, but after reaching the top, you can see all the mountains, and the mountains in the sea of clouds are looming. I like this kind of scenery.

What impressed me most about Shennongding Scenic Area was that their toilets had no water! ...

There are buses to Songbai at 6:40 and 7:20 at Muyu Bus Station. You can buy a ticket at Jiuhuping Transfer Center for 10 yuan and arrive in about 30 minutes. You can also take a tourist bus at 7:30 for 5 yuan. The picture shows the timetable, which may not be accurate. It may be adjusted in the off-season and peak season. The scenery is good, but it is not friendly to individual travelers. The internal 60 yuan transfer bus, either follow the tour group with full or full people to leave, follow the tour group to take pictures and get off the bus, which is too casual. Either be prepared to spend a lot of time waiting for the bus, many times there is no seat, it is basically serving the tour group, there is no fixed interval departure time, anyway, they make a good profit of this 60 yuan. There are a few scenic spots that I didn't play in depth. I regret it, and I will make up for it later if I have the opportunity. If you want to go to Dajiu Lake alone and don't play Shennongding continuously, you want to take a bus here, come before 9 am, 120 yuan, one way. It seems that you will also stop at one of Shennongding on the way? Stop at the scenic spot for sightseeing before leaving.

It takes more than two hours to drive from the entrance to the top of the mountain, which is more than 3,000 meters high. It is a bit cold at the top of the mountain, but the scenery is still good.

Stay overnight in the mountains, the oxygen content is 300%, and you will feel refreshed in the morning. The town (Muyu Town) is brightly lit at night and bustling with business. It is quiet and peaceful in the morning. Many tourists come here to rest, replenish supplies, and form groups. Dajiu Lake Alpine Meadow Wetland, but the scenic area requires the scenic bus to be changed to tour, which is less interesting. It is not good to wait for the bus frequently for the tour. The scenery is beautiful and pleasant.

The scenery is similar to some mountains in the south, without any special features. The wild people are just a legend, maybe to attract tourists. The ticket plus the fare is not cheap, and you have to share a car with other groups. The accommodation and other expenses in Muyu Town are also a rip-off.

I went there when the weather was fine. The scenery was pretty good, but it was the same road up and down, and the scenery was repetitive.

The Shennongjia scenic area is very large, covering an area of hundreds of miles. You must drive to visit it. We went to Shennongding in the morning. The mountains here are very beautiful.
