Gaoyiling Scenic Area is located at the junction of Qiaokou Town, Suxian District, Chenzhou City, Hunan Province and Zixing City. It is separated from Feitian Mountain and borders Bianjiang River in Yongxing County. It is 28 kilometers away from the famous scenic spot Dongjiang Lake. The terrain here is dominated by mountains and forests, with pleasant scenery and a forest coverage rate of 95%. Gaoyiling has mountains, water, springs, caves, villages, cliffs and flats. It is an undeveloped virgin land of Danxia landform. Its biggest feature is that there are beautiful puddles around the Danxia landform, red rocks, green waters, dangerous villages and strange streams, and the ecology is natural and beautiful. This time we visited Dongjiang Lake Scenic Area/Paradise on Earth - Misty Xiaodongjiang River/The Most Beautiful Time Corridor - Bailang Lake Tour/Hometown of Shoufo - Shoufo Temple/Huilung Sea of Clouds - Huilong Mountain Scenic Area/Danxia Landform - Gaoqiling/Alpine Grassland - Yangtian Lake. We had a lot of fun. I would like to especially recommend the local Xiao Kuang to everyone and ask him to look at the pictures. We made an appointment with Xiao Kuang in advance before coming. We only told Xiao Kuang when to arrive and when to return. During the three days, everything about food, accommodation and transportation was left to Xiao Kuang. The water in Dongjiang Lake is very clear and can be drunk directly, reaching the national first-class drinking water standard. We had a lot of fun on our three-day trip, but it was Xiao Huang who made a great contribution. Our trip was customized by Xiao Huang and we were very satisfied.

On the first day, we took the high-speed train from Guangzhou to Chenzhou. Xiao Huang picked us up at the high-speed train station in advance, and then we went to Yangtian Lake Prairie to ride horses. I had always dreamed of riding horses, and finally my dream came true.

The next morning, we got up at six o'clock, had breakfast, and arrived at Xiaodongjiang at six forty. We finally saw the fairyland on earth, the foggy Xiaodongjiang, from the plank road under the Xiaodongjiang No. 2 Bridge... It was very beautiful! After touring Xiaodongjiang, Xiao Huang took us to Dongjiang Lake Pier. We took a boat for about 25 minutes to reach Doushi Island. The most impressive thing was that the scenery on the boat was very beautiful! It was already noon when we came back from Doushi Island. After lunch, Xiao Huang took us to Huilong Mountain. Wow! The sea of clouds on Huilong Mountain was so beautiful. The temperature on Huilong Mountain was a little low, so everyone should remember to bring thick clothes...

On the third day, I got up at 5:30 in the morning to watch the sunrise. It was the first time to watch the sunrise, and there were many people, so it was very lively. After watching the sunrise and having breakfast, we came to the last attraction, Danxia landform... Gaoyiling! Although Gaoyiling is a bit steep in some places, it's okay if you pay attention. It's a very beautiful attraction worth visiting.

The mountain is very low. It takes about 30 minutes to walk from the foot of the mountain to the Danxia landform. The terrain is not steep, so it is a very leisurely tour. If you feel tired, you can choose to ride a horse. There are nearby villagers at the foot of the mountain who rent horses for 40 yuan each time.



Precautions



When you go there in summer, you must pay attention to sun protection, sun protection, and sun protection. There are few shady places in the Danxia landform, so it is best to prepare some anti-heat medicine.

There are many entrances to Gaoyiling. I suggest you don't enter Gaoyiling through the so-called scenic spot entrance (simple bamboo shed tricycle), especially after it rained. The foothold on the slope is not deep enough, the wall is slippery, and the mountain path is difficult to walk. It's too dangerous. I don't know how I climbed up. It's amazing. Another entrance that follows the navigation is not easy to enter. Many people fell into the mud. I suggest you enter the mountain at the location marked in the last picture I posted. It is the best entrance with a gate archway.

Follow the navigation, park the car, and go up the mountain. Because there are no clear signs on the roadside, you can see some bamboos with ribbons tied on them, just follow these bamboos. There are shade trees and mountain breezes all the way up, which is quite cool. After climbing for about 20 minutes, we arrived at the "entrance" of the scenic area. Seeing this large Danxia landform, I really have to sigh at the uncanny workmanship of nature. There are mountains, waters, springs, caves, villages, cliffs, and flats. There are beautiful puddles around the Danxia landform, red rocks, green waters, dangerous villages, strange streams, and natural ecology. It's a mess. It's really scary to walk on it, and it causes 10,000 points of critical hits to people like me who are afraid of heights. I dare not approach many places, and I'm scared when I see the bottom.

When we went there, the weather was not very good. It was drizzling. We thought the slope was too slippery to climb. Later, under the guidance of a passionate master from "Other People's House", we slowly walked up... Although we were terrified, we found that it was better than we thought. We could step firmly and walk step by step. After going up, the view was very broad. We were amazed at the gift left by nature. This is the Danxia landform formed by the eruption of the crater. The beautiful scenery of rocks and grass is very special. We only saw the "big turtle" and did not go to see the "monkey lizard". It is mainly a scenic spot that does not charge admission and is unattended. You must pay attention to safety when you go there, otherwise it is really a bit risky.

Gaoyiling, located in Chenzhou City, Hunan Province, is separated from Feitian Mountain. It is a national 5A-level tourist area and one of the largest concentrated distribution areas of Danxia landform in China. The tourist attractions of Gaoyiling include Jingui Lake, Meinutan, Ladder to Heaven, and Monitor Lizard Lake. Gaoyiling is known as the virgin land of Danxia landform because it has not been fully developed yet. We arrived at around 4pm and the gate was not open yet. Everyone squeezed through the "cliff" next to the gate. Well, it was a real cliff. If you are not careful, you may slide down. It is too dangerous. My God... 



There are many stairs on the way up the mountain, and they are of different heights. It will be tiring, but the scenery is so beautiful that it is worth it no matter how tired you are. Please make sure to insist on walking to the end of the iron fence. But around 6 o'clock in the evening, the sun completely sets, and the whole mountain becomes pitch black. You can't see the road. During this time, a woman in white Hanfu floated by me, like a ghost, which made me panic for a while. . . .



Speaking of Gaoyiling, the scenery can be described as magnificent and majestic. Under the sun, the lake is bright blue and clear, and the water surface is like a mirror. It is completely a national park, and the photos can even be taken in the style of National Geographic magazine.



TIPS:

1. The scenic area opens at 17:00, but many people go there at 3-4:00. At this time, you can only squeeze through a small path on the cliff next to the gate. There is a cliff next to it, a real cliff, which is quite dangerous. It is recommended that you arrive on time. You may have to pay a price for "sneaking".

3. The scenic area is already dark at 6 pm. It is recommended to return to the foot of the mountain at 6:30 at the latest, because there are no lights on the road and it is very dark, which increases the risk factor. Or, it is better to bring a flashlight with you.



PS: I hope the scenic area can be maintained quickly. It’s heartbreaking to see so much garbage along the way.

Pay attention to sun protection, and remember to protect your hat, which can be easily blown away by strong winds. Please eat well before going. It is best to go when it is not raining. It is still very good to watch the sunset. The mountain is a little steep and there are not many railings, so it is best to wear sneakers! The scenery is amazing. When I went there, I really hoped that someone would build a via ferrata there. It should be very good, but otherwise the scenery would be ruined.

Dongjiang Lake Tourism, but this place name has become a paradise for photography enthusiasts. The mysterious foggy Xiaodongjiang wonders and the fairyland-like mist have been flowing on the Dongjiang River. "I know you will come, so I wait." The fog in Dongjiang Lake is known as a wonder and is a must-see. In the distant valley, there is white fog and light fog on the river. The breeze blows, and the fog moves with the wind, changing into thousands of weather conditions, like a painting, which makes people intoxicated. There is a poem praising: "The vast Xiang net of clouds and fog is spread all over the river and sky." With the heart of chasing fog, every weekend, there is always an impulse for you to breathe quietly, let your soul be baptized, and let your mood be relaxed! Dongjiang Town, Zixing, a small town on the bank of Dongjiang Lake in southern Hunan, is worth a trip on your own!

Due to the tight weekend schedule, we could only spend two days at Dongjiang Lake. Xiaohuang, introduced by a colleague, helped us customize a two-day itinerary for Yangtian Lake, Dongjiang Lake, and Gaoyiling. These attractions are all good. I give Xiaohuang a big thumbs up. It was a satisfying trip.

Gaoyiling is currently under development and is guarded by government personnel, but there is a small path to get in. The scenery of Danxia landform Gaoyiling is very beautiful. Anyone who comes to Dongjiang Lake for tourism will basically go to Gaoyiling.

The Danxia landform is very special. When I walked into the fence, I was shocked. I have never seen such mountains, flat, smooth, without moss or mud.

Gaoyiling Scenic Area does not require tickets now. There are two ways to go there. Both require driving or renting a car. There is no bus going there. The first way is to drive to Gaoyi Village, park the car in the village, and then go through the bamboo forest to the scenic area. The second way is to drive the car to the road near a sign with a simple map of the scenic area. Pay attention if the sign is not obvious. Park the car on the side of the road, then go up the high platform and walk the mountain road to the scenic area. The elderly and children are not suitable for this road. The above two methods require good weather. Don't go on rainy days.

There are many farmhouses at the foot of Gaoyiling. You don't need to enter Gaoyiling, just walk up. It was raining, and I felt scared looking at the steep and slippery stones. I wondered if it would be slippery or dangerous to walk on them. In fact, these worries were unnecessary. The slippery stones were not slippery at all when I walked on them. Although the weather was bad, it was worth it to see such a beautiful scenery as soon as I went up the mountain. Each mountain feels like a whole piece of big stone. The stone is round. Probably due to malnutrition, only some short vegetation can grow on it. The color is fresh and tender, and it looks like the green hair on Huba's head. When you get closer to the stone, you can see the vicissitudes of history from the deep and shallow gullies after millions of years of rain. Looking at the sesame-sized tourists on the top of the rock, you can't help but sigh at the insignificance of human beings. There are beautiful puddles dotted in the middle of the mountain stream, as smooth and bright as a mirror. Although it is still raining, it can't even make a ripple. Since Gaoyiling has not been developed, the facilities are very simple, there are no road signs, no stairs, and even no railings in many places. The small pits on the stone serve as stairs. It looks very slippery, but it is stable to walk on. From the top of the mountain to the right is the road to the Giant Lizard Rock. Because it rained, there are no railings on the stairs here, so no one went this way. But the Gaoyiling Giant Lizard is the most famous attraction in Gaoyiling. If you don’t go to see it, won’t you leave with regret? Others don’t go, so I go by myself. I went down and realized that the road was not as difficult as I imagined. It was even easier to walk than the road up the mountain just now. At least there are stairs here. However, it may still be dangerous if there are too many people. After all, there are cliffs on both sides and no shelter. The consequences of falling down are disastrous. I think this is why Gaoyiling has not been developed. You must have regretted not coming to see the true face of the giant lizard. The rain stopped, and the mountains in the distance were hidden by the white clouds, looming. It would be wonderful if I could recite a poem at this time. Unfortunately, I regret not having read enough books when I need them. I just think it looks good, but I don’t know how to express it. The colors of the mountains have also become richer and brighter. The patterns on the top of the mountain are like the annual rings of a big tree. I stand here and look into the distance, looking at the red rocks, green waters, dangerous villages and strange streams. The ecology is natural and it feels beautiful. The way down the mountain is the same as the way up the mountain. I think the patterns on the mountain are so beautiful, like a young girl’s hair with highlighted shawls. There are two lines in the poem "Spring Day Miscellaneous Poems" by Gao Heng of the Han Dynasty that are very appropriate here: The green mountains are like dark green in the east of the distant village, and the tender green creek is filled with catkins in the wind. Dongjiang Lake, a well-known 5A scenic spot, was worth the three-day and two-night trip. We visited the Big and Small Dongjiang Lake, Gaoyiling, Yangtian Lake, and Huilong Mountain. Although there is a bus stop called Gaoyiling Station, in fact, if you get off at Gaoyiling Station, you still have to walk back a distance. The best way is to tell the driver to get off at the intersection of Yangchong Tucai Restaurant. Generally, the driver will agree and you can walk less. After getting off at the intersection of Yangchong Tucai Restaurant, cross the road and go in. You will see a blue sign saying that Gaoyiling is not a scenic spot and it is strictly forbidden to enter. It is useless.

Walking forward, I soon saw a blue fence, which was also useless, but there was a door in the middle. After climbing a steep staircase, I came to a relatively flat place and turned right. There was only one road after turning right, but it was blocked after a short distance. The scenery in this section was still very good, and it took only a few minutes to walk through it.

Keep walking forward, the view becomes better and better, it is breathtakingly beautiful.

Although Gaoyiling is not high, you have to walk on the ridge. Some places are really slippery and difficult to walk on, and it is still very tiring.

I climbed up from the farmer's backyard. The wind was so strong that it almost paralyzed my face. The watery Danxia is a special feature and worth seeing.

Gaoyiling is an undeveloped Danxia landform virgin land, and tickets are not sold yet. Therefore, the tourist facilities are quite simple, with no road signs, no stairs, and even no railings in many places (there are simple toilets). When we drove along the narrow village road to Gaoyiling Scenic Area, we were blocked by a simple iron gate. I shouted loudly to attract an old man to come out of the room on the right side of the iron gate to open the door, saying that we could enter only after paying a parking fee of 20 yuan.

There is a "Lijiazhai Farm" not far from the iron gate, but I never saw the owner of the farm. Seeing that the road ahead was not in good condition, I parked the car on the vacant gravel field of "Lijiazhai Farm". Walk about a kilometer to reach the so-called gate of Gaoyiling.

Before coming to Chenzhou, I heard the news that Gaoyiling was closed, and I thought there was no way out. However, because the Didi driver was a local, he took us to a small road. I heard that this road was made by woodcutters when they chopped wood. It is quite dangerous and rugged, so parents who bring children here should pay more attention to safety.

The place where we started climbing was a farm. We had to go down the mountain first and then go up. It was an undeveloped mountainous area. Although Gaoyiling was not part of our travel plan, its beauty will always remain in our memory!

It's a pity that the scenic area is restricted from entering, otherwise you can go inside to have a look. I can only look at the outside, but it looks okay.

It was a sunny afternoon when we arrived at Gaoyiling, and the heat was overwhelming. Climbing the bare mountain under the scorching sun, there was no shade at all. So sun protection is really important. If it is sunny, especially during the hot period from April to October, you must do a good job of sun protection. Students with good physical strength can hold an umbrella. The way up the mountain is relatively easy to walk, and you don’t need to use your hands. I walked up with an umbrella. It’s just that holding an umbrella is somewhat inconvenient. If you are not physically strong and feel that climbing the mountain is still more difficult, you should not hold an umbrella and concentrate on climbing.

The first time I saw the mountain, I thought it was quite magical!

In fact, the mountain of Gaoyiling is not very high, it is basically just a small hill within sight. When you stand at the foot of the mountain, you can see where the next hill you are going to climb is, and you can also see the way to get there. From one hill to another, the distance is quite large, and the path is clearly visible. It is relatively easy to climb. When you reach the first small peak, the scenery is immediately different from the foot of the mountain. There are all kinds of bare hills and narrow walkways. People in the distance will be very small. From a distance, the crowd looks like ant porters lined up.

In the end, I felt that no matter which angle you look at it from, it looks the same. There is water on one side of the mountain and no water on the other. The water makes the picture look much better. The dry mountain without water looks so monotonous.

When we reached the last hill, we finally found a place to rest under the sun.

Walking down from the last hill became my favorite photo spot. Because many people didn't want to come down at the end, there were few people and the scenery was nice.

It takes about two hours to walk, take photos and rest in the whole scenic area. If you have normal physical strength, half a day is enough. The terrain is unique and it is really worth a visit.

Gaoyiling is a typical Danxia landform. After being discovered by the surrounding villagers, it was gradually developed and formed into the current Gaoyiling. The tour takes 2-3 hours. When you take the intercity bus to Gaoyiling, you can ask for dessert after getting on the bus and tell the driver: "Master, I am going to Gaoyiling for fun. Please tell me when you arrive at Gaoyiling." Then the driver will drop you off at the nearest place to the mountain entrance, and then just follow the crowd and return the same way.
