Fenghuang Ancient Town is located in the southwest of Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Hunan Province, with a total land area of about 10 square kilometers. From Huaihua South High-speed Railway Station to Fenghuang Ancient City, you can share a car or take a bus from Huaihua South to Fenghuang Ancient City. The cost is about the same, about 60 RMB. The journey takes 1 hour.



Internet celebrity food is mainly gathered near Hongqiao, such as Daguo Dazao, Junzi Restaurant, etc. The local food street is basically near Tuqiaolong.



You can spend a day touring the ancient city. If you stay longer, you can go to nearby Dehang Miao Village, Aizhai Bridge, Glass Plank Road, etc.

There are not many people visiting the ancient town, and some shops are still closed, supposedly to protest the government's admission fee collection. We arrived in Fenghuang in the afternoon. There were not many people in the scenic area. Most tour groups finished their visit in the morning. The ancient city is not big and can be visited in half a day. After walking around for a while, I found that Fenghuang Ancient Town has only small paths along the river and behind the riverside building, with shops on both sides. But the night view of Fenghuang is still pretty beautiful.

In general, the commercialization of Fenghuang Ancient Town has become very serious, but for those who have never been there, like us, we will still come to take a look.

In fact, Fenghuang is really not big. Just walk along the river. The stilt houses on both sides of the Tuojiang River are either inns, restaurants or bars. This is what netizens say that Fenghuang Ancient Town is no longer worthy of its name. Too many tourists have polluted this pure land. And as long as you are in Fenghuang Ancient Town, no matter which corner you go, "Sister, do you want to take a boat? The night view of Phoenix is a must, but it is a little cold at night. There are countless bars in Phoenix, and there are countless bottles decorating the doors of the bars. Phoenix is a good place for a romantic encounter, but there are too many bars, too noisy, and too deceptive, which is not suitable for Phoenix, especially the young men and women who solicit customers at the door. To be honest, they are quite annoying. I'd better be a quiet boy.

Phoenix Ancient Town has lost its former tranquility and ease. It has become more of a commercial business. Don't trust anyone, anyone, and don't chat up anyone.

I checked in in April 2018, and chose a youth hostel. The guy at the front desk had just arrived and was a little shy, but he was very nice to guests. The youth hostel was in a small alley, and the environment was good. I ate wherever I went, and the taste was not too bad, and I didn't have high requirements for food. I walked around the ancient city for several days. It was very commercial and noisy. I signed up for a one-day tour to Bandit Cave with a roadside store, but the price was ripped off. The places to play were average, the lunch was delicious but the meal time was too short. I didn't buy a ticket. Phoenix was on my later itinerary. I mainly went to Guizhou. Phoenix was added to make up the 40-day itinerary. I like to buy handicrafts, which is my weakness! I'm used to being ripped off. I didn't go to see the performance in Border Town. I was just traveling and stayed in Phoenix for 4 days and 3 nights.

It seems that there is nothing left of the ancient buildings, and it feels like new buildings are everywhere. I have never been to this border town in Xiangxi before, so I kept asking myself, is this Fenghuang? In this kind of ancient town, there are many places that have been making silver jewelry for generations, all handmade, and somewhat similar to Lijiang. Continue walking towards the Tuojiang River, and slowly walk into the core area of the original ancient city. The core area of the ancient city is basically built along the Tuojiang River. Starting from the stilt houses on the riverside, along the mountains on both sides of the river, the houses are built higher and higher. So the houses here are very three-dimensional, not on the same plane, but scattered with the ups and downs of the mountains, which is very interesting. But the buildings here seem to be a bit new. Many of them have been renovated later. Personally, I think the sunset is the most beautiful when a ray of golden sun shines on the buildings on the riverside. The house turned golden because of the light, and the oblique light lengthened the shadow of the eaves. The whole picture has a sense of warmth.

Take a slow walk along the Tuojiang River, and look at this ancient city surrounded by green mountains. A bay of Tuojiang River flows around the city, with stilt houses, old city walls, ancient stone bridges, and old castles. Although it is still prosperous here, due to excessive commercialization, it seems that it has lost the soul that the Xiangxi border town should have. Leaving the Tuojiang River and going up the mountain along the steps, it seems to be much quieter. Most of the tourists here gather by the Tuojiang River. Not walking too far in the alley, I turned back to the Tuojiang River unknowingly. When the lights came on, the whole Tuojiang River began to bustle. The bars by the river began to play lively and noisy music. And tourists stopped by the river with selfie sticks to take selfies. As night slowly fell, the buildings of the ancient city were lit up by warm yellow lights. Some of the complicated and dilapidated buildings seen during the day slowly disappeared into the darkness. What remains is the bright lights and the charming reflections in the Tuojiang River. It feels really good to sit alone on the river bank and enjoy the breeze. Although there are lights and shadows all around, my heart is very peaceful at this moment. Empty!

The city in the water twists and turns with the waves. Just like the Phoenix now, it always seems a little unreal. The Wanming Tower by the river has stood by the river for many years, watching the changes of the world. The former stilt houses have now become bars and inns. The only thing that remains unchanged is the Tuojiang River, which still flows slowly.

If you like to hunt for novelties, you can go and see the three evil performances in Xiangxi, one is corpse driving, the second is witchcraft, and the third is the fallen flower cave girl. Forget about bringing a baby.

Find a coffee shop by the Tuojiang River, order a cup of coffee, lean on the railing and look into the distance, imagining every detail of the border town described by Mr. Wen. It is such a beautiful scene. If there is a little rain, it will be even more beautiful.

Among all the nightlife experiences worth experiencing in Fenghuang, appreciating the night view of Fenghuang Ancient Town must be ranked first. The ancient town in the night is truly a wonderful dream, with a little sadness or joy, or a sense of peace; walk through the shadowy crowd, find a teahouse or bar by the water, or go into a Miao restaurant on the stilts on the shore, drink alone or with friends and family, the ancient town can make you realize a beautiful dream that is always in your heart and rare in the world.

Unfortunately, we have limited time, otherwise we should really calm down and find a teahouse or restaurant to drink tea and wine, and appreciate the wonderful moments of the ancient city.

A thousand people have a thousand different Fenghuang Ancient Towns in their hearts. I have imagined Fenghuang many times, with green mountains embracing the ancient town and rivers flowing around the city, simple and peaceful.

I like Phoenix in the early morning, when most tourists are still asleep. There is no hustle and bustle, no noise or disturbance, only the original tranquility and peace. The slowly flowing water of Tuojiang River further highlights its charm.

There are national chain snack streets. What's the point? Don't go, don't go, don't go! ! ! I fought hard for level 5! !

I have always known about Fenghuang Ancient Town and have always wanted to go there, but I didn't expect to make a detour on the way back to Hainan. It was better than I thought. It would be even better if the weather was better. I am ready to go there again!!!
