Yueyang Tower is located on the west gate wall of the ancient city of Yueyang, Hunan Province, overlooking Dongting Lake and Junshan Mountain. The queues when I climbed the Yueyang Tower made me experience the horror of the queues at tourist attractions during the Spring Festival for the second time (the first time was when I went to the Nanjing Tulou two years ago). Fortunately, there were not too many people and the queue lasted less than half an hour. Yueyang Tower has three floors. When you climb to the top floor, you can see the vast 800-mile Dongting Lake through the window. Fan Zhongyan's famous words echoed in my ears: "Worry about the world before you worry about yourself, and be happy after the world is happy."

The only unpleasant thing is that the Lvxian Temple in the scenic area is a pit, and you will be asked to pay merit money when you enter.

From the Three Kingdoms in the late Eastern Han Dynasty to the poems and lyrics in the Tang and Song Dynasties, the Yueyang Tower we see now has gone through many changes. It is beside Dongting Lake and the Yangtze River, and has witnessed the turbulent changes in this land. Our ancestors could not imagine the prosperous times of today, but we can read the literary talent and character of a nation from this building, and read the history of a nation that is upbeat and growing.

Yueyang Tower is 19 meters high, facing east and sitting west. It has a simple and unique structure and a magnificent and solemn appearance. In terms of architectural style, predecessors summarized it as wooden, three-story, four-pillar, flying eaves, brackets, and helmet-shaped. Yueyang Tower is a pure structure. The entire building does not use a single nail or rivet. It is only connected by wooden components. Four huge nanmu trees, known as "pillars to the sky", extend from the first floor to the third floor. The three-story building has flying eaves, and from bottom to top, they are carved with phoenixes with spread wings, flying dragons with their heads held high, and auspicious clouds in the shape of a spiral pattern. The roof of the building is like the magnificent shape of an ancient general's helmet. It is unique among the ancient buildings that exist in China today and is the unique symbol of Yueyang Tower.

It doesn’t have the magnificence of Zhangjiajie, nor the beauty of Furong Town, but when you climb up the Yueyang Tower and look out over the 800-li Dongting Lake, you can see the Yueyang Tower in your childhood books. Isn’t that the meaning of our coming here?

As one of the three most famous towers in Jiangnan, it was a popular place for ancient scholars and poets. You can't imagine the places where they are selling things, such as the wax museum and the golden turtle in Xiao Qiao's tomb. There is nothing to see inside, but they are all selling things. If it weren't for the geographical advantage of being close to the lake, there is nothing else. I won't come again.

A must-see scenery in Yueyang. It is quite nice to overlook Dongting Lake from Yueyang Tower. There are also preferential policies for tickets. It is still very good. It is worth a visit.

Apart from going to Yueyang Tower, I went to the night market in Baling Square at night. That's not a night market. I bought all kinds of things, some instant noodle shops, and there was no local characteristics. The train back was four hours late. I got up early in the morning and waited for four hours. It didn't feel good. I suggest that those who have been to Yellow Crane Tower and Tengwang Pavilion should not come here. I regretted coming here. I regretted coming to Yueyang. However, the scenery of Dongting Lake is nice. The duck-billed fish tastes very good.

The main purpose was to see the Yueyang Tower in person and relive the "Yueyang Tower" that I had memorized in its entirety during my school days. The water in Dongting Lake was quite yellow during this period, and the beautiful scenery described in the poem could not be seen.

The Yueyang Tower of the Five Dynasties is richer than the Yellow Crane Tower. The Yellow Crane Tower is a small indoor model, and the bronze cast one is outdoor!

There are Yueyang Towers in different periods. Yueyang Tower is a brick and wood structure and is often destroyed by wars and natural disasters. Therefore, the appearance of Yueyang Tower in different periods is different.

Yueyang Tower faces the vast Tongting Lake

From the outside, the Yueyang Tower is too ordinary. If it weren't for its location, any city could find several pavilions taller than it. There are four famous towers in China: Yellow Crane Tower, Yueyang Tower, Stork Tower, and Tengwang Pavilion. I have seen the first three. From the outside, the Stork Tower is the grandfather, the Yellow Crane Tower is the father, and the Yueyang Tower is the younger grandson. The old saying goes: "A mountain is not famous for its immortals, but for its height." Let's not look at the appearance, but look at the connotation. Although Yueyang Tower is short, it has three floors. The stairs are narrow and only wide enough for one person to go up and down. The original "Yueyang Tower" was written by a great calligrapher (I forgot his name) in 6 different styles of writing. After it was written, it was hung on the Yueyang Tower. When the county magistrate of Yueyang Tower left office at that time, he wanted to steal the original for himself. He asked someone to imitate a fake and hung it on the Yueyang Tower. After the original was taken down, a small boat was hired to transport it away. While the boat was sailing, a strong wind blew over Dongting Lake and overturned the boat. All the wooden boards engraved with Yueyang Tower on the boat fell into the lake. After a long time, fishermen were fishing in the lake and fished out a wooden board with words on it. They continued to fish and fished out all the wooden boards. But the fishermen at that time were illiterate and used the wooden boards as springboards on the fishing boats. Later, the county magistrate at that time accidentally saw the words on the springboard on the boat. He thought it was very special, so he bought all the gangplanks with words on them from the fishermen. When he put the wooden boards together, he found that it was the original copy of Yueyang Tower. During the process of making the gangplank, several words were damaged. The county magistrate spent a lot of money to find someone to repair those words. During the repair process, because they were written in different handwritings, it took more than three months to complete the repair.

The first floor of Yueyang Tower is a replica, and the second floor is the original. There are traces of the added words. After hearing this story, tourists pointed and drew on the added words, so it is obvious. Walking forward from Yueyang Tower is the tomb of Xiao Qiao, the wife of Zhou Yu during the Three Kingdoms period.

To be honest, I came here for the reputation of "Three Famous Towers in Jiangnan". I remember that when I was in school, I was required to recite "Yueyang Tower". Now I can only remember the sentence "Be the first to worry about the world, and the last to enjoy the world".
