Nanjing Ming City Wall, which consists of four walls built during the Ming Dynasty, namely the Palace City, the Imperial City, the Capital City and the Outer City, is the largest city wall in my country.
The Ming city wall violates the ancient construction standards. The main buildings are irregular in shape. The city wall is built according to the shape and terrain of the mountain.
The Qinhuai River in the south serves as a moat; Zhongshan Mountain in the east serves as support; Houhu Lake in the north serves as a barrier; and the Sina Hills extend into the city, forming a three-dimensional military fortress with unique defensive characteristics.
Whether in terms of historical value, ornamental value, or archaeological value, the Ming City Wall is another grand structure after the Great Wall of China.

Because there were too many people entering Jiming Temple, we went directly to the Jiefang Gate in front to climb the city wall. The ticket from Jiefang Gate is 30 yuan. If you enter from Jiming Temple, the temple ticket is 10 yuan and the city wall is 15 yuan, which is 5 yuan cheaper. The disadvantage is that you have to queue.
The Nanjing City Wall is the Ming City Wall. Baidu says it is the world's longest, largest, and best preserved ancient city wall, but Baidu says the Xi'an City Wall is the largest and best preserved ancient city wall in China. In terms of length, the Nanjing Ming City Wall is definitely longer, with a total of 25.1 kilometers preserved, but it is not continuous, with gaps in the middle. In terms of completeness, the Xi'an Ming City Wall is definitely the best, with a total length of 13.7 kilometers, and you can ride a bicycle back and forth on the city wall. The Nanjing Ming City Wall was treated as an imperial capital at the time, while the Xi'an Ming City Wall was at best a provincial capital level. I heard that the two city walls were also in a mutual attack mode before, but no matter what, they are historical relics left by our ancestors and are worth preserving.
Nanjing Ming City Wall is winding and beautiful, with the graceful figure of a Jiangnan woman. To the south is Jiming Mountain. It is said that you need to wait for a camera position all year round to take pictures of Jiming Temple on the Ming City Wall. I was worried that I couldn't squeeze in among the many uncles and aunts with SLR cameras, but I didn't expect that there would be no camera position on the Ming City Wall after the snow. The north side of Jiefang Gate is close to Xuanwu Lake. Walking on the city wall can be said to be a scene of one step at a time.
A tall tree attracts the wind. It's a pity that Nanjing's Ming City Wall has been damaged. It has suffered countless wars for more than 600 years. Although it was built to the highest standards, it is really only in sections.
The place where we climbed the city wall was the Xuanwu Lake section of the Nanjing Ming City Wall. This section of the city wall runs from Shen Ce Gate to Taiping Gate, passing through Xuanwu Gate and Jiefang Gate.
The majestic and tall Ming City Wall winds along the way. Looking inside and outside the city wall, the beautiful scenery seems to have no end.
Leaning on the city wall and looking at the beautiful scenery of Jiming Temple at sunset, it is inevitable to think of Du Mu's poem "Spring in the South of the Yangtze River"
At 17:50, the security guard began to clear the area and drove the tourists down the wall. The security guard said that the upper wall was closed, but we could still play on the lower wall.
The city wall is also beautiful at night. The endless city wall is like a string of luminous necklaces in Nanjing. The long exposure captured the train tracks and the street lights with starburst effects.
The lights on the ancient city wall are still on, but the tourists have dispersed and the surroundings have become very quiet, as if the city wall has returned to its original appearance.
Leaving Jiming Temple, not far away is the Ming City Wall. As a masterpiece of ancient Chinese military defense facilities and city wall construction technology, the Ming City Wall carries a profound historical and cultural heritage.
Enter from the back door of Jiming Temple, walk along the city wall to the bottom of Taicheng Study, which takes about 40 minutes. This section is the highlight, where you can see Xuanwu Lake and Jiming Temple. Nanjing Ming City Wall, which was built in 1366, mobilized 280,000 migrant workers and took 28 years to complete. It is the world's longest, largest and best preserved ancient city wall, and now it is 25.1 kilometers well preserved. The city wall is divided into multiple sections for climbing the city, some of which are free and some are charged. Among them, the Xuanwu Lake section (Shence Gate-Xuanwu Gate-Jiefang Gate-Taiping Gate) is the most popular, with a total length of about 5 kilometers and an excellent natural landscape foundation. You can see Xuanwu Lake, Zijin Mountain, Jiuhua Mountain, Jiming Temple and other scenery. The section from Jiming Temple to Jiefang Gate takes about 30 minutes to visit.
Nanjing Ming City Wall is the world's longest, largest and best preserved ancient city wall, with a total length of 25.1 kilometers now intact. You can go directly to the Ming City Wall from Jiming Temple, and you can see Xuanwu Lake from the wall. The Ming City Wall is vicissitudes and heavy. The tall palace lanterns and red lanterns are dotted on the ancient city wall. The city wall is extended at will; the dream is continued at will. This temple, this mountain, this lake, and this Ming City Wall are all quietly telling the history of Nanjing City...
Next to Jiming Temple is the ancient city wall of the Ming Dynasty. The Nanjing Ming City Wall was built in the Ming Dynasty from 1366 to 1386, which took 21 years to complete. It is the world's largest city wall, forming a four-layer ring pattern of the imperial city, palace city, capital city, and outer city from the inside to the outside. It does not follow the old square or rectangular system of ancient capitals. It has a unique design concept, exquisite construction technology, and a magnificent scale. It winds for 35.3 kilometers between the beautiful mountains and rivers of Nanjing, and the outer city of Nanjing Ming City Wall has a circumference of more than 60 kilometers. The Nanjing Ming City Wall, which was personally supervised by Zhu Yuanzhang, is not only the largest city wall in China, but also the largest city wall in the world. It has been selected as the world's largest city wall by the World Records Association. Nanjing Ming City Wall was built "due to the weather and location", built by the mountains and rivers, and is a model of the combination of Chinese etiquette system and nature. It is an outstanding representative of the construction of ancient capitals and a common cultural heritage of mankind. Nanjing Ming City Wall is a masterpiece of ancient Chinese military defense facilities and city wall construction technology. No matter in terms of historical value, ornamental value, archaeological value, architectural design, scale, function, etc., it is incomparable to other city walls at home and abroad. It can be said to be another historical wonder after the Qin Great Wall of China. In 1988, Nanjing Ming City Wall was confirmed as a national key cultural relic protection unit. In November 2012, it was included in the preliminary list of China's World Heritage application as a "China Ming and Qing City Wall" project. This section of the undulating city wall has a very historical feel.
I went up from Jiefangmen, but I didn't find the comment that it's half the price if I go up from Jiming Temple. The ticket is 30 yuan, and I can't walk much, but I can see the scenery of Xuanwu Lake. Stroll along the ancient road of the city wall and talk to history.
There are not many ancient city walls that are so well preserved!
Nanjing's city wall has a long history and is magnificent.
The story of Jinling, listening to the bricks telling the story, my heart aches
It is not as spectacular as Xi'an, but it also has its own feeling. On one side of the city wall is Xuanwu Park.
It was drizzling when we arrived and there were not many people there. We walked on the city wall and took photos.
To climb the city wall, you have to go to Zhonghua Gate. The ticket is 50 yuan. Someone was selling it for 30 yuan outside the gate. I bought it to save 20 yuan. But when I went in and checked my ticket, it was taken away. They said it was for recycling. There was no hole in the ticket or it was torn. I guess it was in the same situation as the person who sold it.
You can go up to the city tower next to Xuanwu Gate and enjoy the nice view
Nanjing City Wall, Xuanwu Gate, stroll on the tower and feel
Personally, I feel that as a tourist attraction, the Nanjing City Wall is not as well built as the Xi'an City Wall.
The Ming City Wall in Nanjing has about four levels, each with an entrance gate. I just don't know which of the remaining ones are really from the Ming Dynasty to the present day.
Go up from Jiming Temple, detour around the temple, there is a small gate where you can buy tickets directly to the Ming City Wall, which is our plan. However, when we arrived, we found that this gate was closed after 4 o'clock, so we had no choice but to go to the main gate of the city wall.
I haven't been to other places, but the Xuanwu Lake section is very complete and well preserved. Climbing the city wall, the front is Xuanwu Lake, and the back is Jiming Temple and the antique buildings of Nanjing Municipal Government. The scenery is very good. You can go to Xuanwu Lake Park for a stroll after coming down. I heard that there are many entrances to the Nanjing City Wall, each with its own style. I can spend more time walking around next time.
The Nanjing skyline that can be seen from the Ming City Wall is just like this city, where history and modernity coexist in harmony.
Coming out of the Shenwu Gate of Xuanwu Lake Park, the Ming City Wall Ruins Museum is upstairs, which is very close to Jiming Temple.
The ruins of the Ming City Wall Gate have a very old flavor.
I just can't see too many things.
The city walls of the ancient capital of the Six Dynasties may have been repaired many times but still have a sense of history
The city wall of Nanjing is built in sections, and the years have left mottled traces here. When you come out of Xuanwu Lake Park and climb the city wall, you will see Jiming Temple built on the mountain to the west and Xuanwu Lake with shimmering waves to the north. Birds fly by from time to time, and it looks peaceful and beautiful in the magnificent twilight.
There are many sections of the Ming City Wall. We went to the section from Shen Ce Gate to Xuan Wu Gate, which has a very beautiful scenery. Going up the city wall, you can look up at the ancient Jiming Temple and overlook Xuanwu Lake. The scenery of the lake and mountains, and the green trees surrounding the temple, are all in sight.
This ancient brick wall has a lot of mysteries. If you get closer, you will find that almost every brick is engraved with words. Although we knew about this before coming here, this discovery still shocked us. It is not the crooked inscriptions that destroy the landscape, but the neatly written and uniformly regulated inscriptions.
Looking at the words on the bricks, it feels like we are having a conversation with our ancestors.
Although many characters on the bricks have been eroded, some are still intact. The names of these brick makers, who were once considered very ordinary, have been preserved along with the Ming City Wall and have become a witness to history.
The Ming City Wall is not as well developed as the ancient city wall of Xi'an. The road is not smooth and a bit narrow. The scenery is just to see Xuanwu Lake and Jiming Temple. You may also see other things, but you don't go on. You can't ride a bicycle on it. The good thing is that students don't need to buy tickets to go directly up.
The Ming City Wall surrounds Nanjing City. Although so many years have passed, it still looks very magnificent and very strong. When the city wall was built, each craftsman responsible for burning bricks had to carve his name on the bricks, so that if any brick was broken, he would be held accountable. This is why the city wall is still so strong today.
Jiefangmen section, next to Xuanwu Lake, free tickets for those under 18, cleared at 6 o'clock. We walked a short distance. Blowing the breeze, feeling the comfort after a crowded and anxious day~ The wall with grass is said to be full of water when it rains~
The Ming City Wall Ruins are next to Xuanwu Lake Park. You can see the entire Xuanwu Lake scenery as long as you climb up the Ming City Wall. But there is an additional fee here. Generally speaking, you can just take pictures under the city wall, and there is no need to go up. Instead, it is more leisurely to walk through the Xuanwu Lake next door. Xuanwu Lake Park is free to enter.
It cost 30 yuan. The city wall of Nanjing is not like the city wall of Xi'an, which is connected in a circle, but is segmented. There are no people riding bicycles on the city wall here, and there are few tourists, but there is a sense of comfort without being disturbed. If you look closely at the wall bricks, you can find that some bricks and stones have inscriptions, which adds to the sense of vicissitudes.
Walk to the back door of Jiming Temple, and you can see the Ming City Wall from afar. Start from the back door and walk towards Xuanwu Lake. It is not far away. Climb up the city wall, and the cool breeze blowing from the surface of Xuanwu Lake is refreshing. Walk along the city wall, and there is a black iron gate at the end. The iron gate is locked. From the gap in the door, you can see that there are weeds inside. Obviously, this side has reached the end. But this iron gate is very suitable for taking photos~
Most of the buildings are restored. In the evening, you can go to Zhonghua Gate to watch the sunset, or take a walk in the quiet city wall. It is very comfortable and gives you a feeling of traveling back to ancient times.
We climbed up the Ming City Wall to the highest point and looked down. Awe was in our hearts. Standing there, it seemed as if we had traveled through time and space in a second. Soldiers were at the gates of the city, swords and blood were used to attack and defend the city gates. The ancients did not have the machines we have today. It took them 27 years to build this wall around the city. How much sweat and blood were poured into every brick and stone.
This wall has been weathered by wind and rain, and has been bombarded mercilessly by artillery fire, but it still stands here as solid as a rock.
Looking around, it looks like a long Great Wall, and the scenery on the wall is beautiful.
Nanjing's Ming City Wall is very famous, magnificent and solid. The Ming City Wall is divided into N sections and 6 lines:
South Route: Dongshuiguan - Wudingmen - Yuhuamen - Zhonghuamen - Changganmen - Jiqingmen - Xiguanmen, a total of 6.5 km, the ticket to the city is 50 yuan.
West Line: Qingliangmen - Shitoumen - National Defense Park, 1.1 km, free of charge.
Northwest Line: Dinghuai Gate - Huayangang Gate - Yijiang Gate - Yifeng Gate, about 4.2 km, free of charge.
North Route: Zhongfu Road - Zhongyangmen, about 1.6 km, free
Northeast Line: Shen Ce Gate - Xuanwu Gate - Taicheng (Jiefang Gate) - Linhu Hall - Jiuhuashan Park, about 6 km, the ticket to the city is 30 yuan.
East Line 1: Fugui Mountain - Lake Biwa section, about 0.8 km, the ticket to the city is 10 yuan.
East Line 2: Zhongshan Gate-Biaoying Gate-Lanqi Street Passage, about 2 km, the ticket to the city is 10 yuan.
Among them, the South Line and the Northeast Line are more famous. We chose a small section of the Northeast Line, from Jiefangmen to Xuanwumen.
You must choose cool weather to go to the Ming City Wall, otherwise you will be sunburned to death because there is almost no shade on the wall.
I specifically chose around nine in the morning, but the result was horrible.
However, there are always fewer people at the Ming City Wall, which is good, and it feels like the whole place is reserved.
When we arrived at the ticket office, we found out that the ticket sales would stop in 15 minutes. We could buy tickets before 17:00 and had to get off the city wall at 21:00. We arrived at the ticket office just before closing time. We quickly bought the tickets and entered the gate. The city wall is 5km away, and we happened to be walking at the starting point of the city wall. It was a good deal for 50 yuan, just enough to walk a full circle.
When we first came up here, we felt that the 50 yuan was a waste, because not only was it very cold up there, but there was no one there, and there were only cobblestone roads. For a moment we both doubted why we came up here.
At around 19:00, the lights on the city wall had been turned on, and there were more people on the wall, much more than when we first came up. Most of them were couples, and most of them were shivering because it was really cold up there.
Bricks with words on them can be seen in many places on the city wall. It is not very clear what is written on them and what their meaning is, but in ancient times the city wall was really an amazing building.
At around 20:00, it was already dark on the city wall. We walked to the most prosperous city gate, Zhonghua Gate. Going down, it was very close to Laomendong. There were still a lot of people. Everyone came to eat snacks and visit the night market. The Nanjing City Wall was my companion's favorite tour in Nanjing. He thought it was spectacular. He couldn't help but admire it for a long time along the way. It was really spectacular. Whenever I walked through some places, I couldn't help but think about what it was like in ancient times. Was it really full of smoke or staying overnight at Qinhuai? The historical heritage is heavy, and the stories are also very meaningful. What is left to our descendants is more respect and protection, and keeping the only remaining city wall ruins in front of us, because in the distant Ming Dynasty, it was much shorter than what we see now.
If you are interested in visiting the Ming City Wall, you can go up directly from Zhonghua Gate. 2 km to the west is the Jiqing Gate where we came up, 2 km to the east is Wuding Gate, and 3 km to the east is Dongshuiguan. However, it is under renovation now, so you can only walk to Wuding Gate at most. Therefore, the total length is only about 5 km, which is much shorter than in history. There are not many things to see and play on the city wall, so if you are interested, you can come to Zhonghua Gate to take a look and take some photos.
The exit of Jiming Temple is the entrance to the Jiefang Gate of Ming City Wall. Tickets to Ming City Wall are 30 yuan.
The ground of the city wall was full of potholes, which were traces of historical erosion. Under the scorching sun, there were only a few people on the long city wall.
To the south of the city wall is Jiming Temple, and to the north is Xuanwu Lake. Standing on the city wall, you can overlook the entire Xuanwu Lake.
It's magnificent, but it takes some energy to walk around.
Because of the snow, I saw a different Ming City Wall. This trip to Nanjing was pleasantly surprised by the snow, and I saw beautiful scenery that I don't see often. I climbed the wall from the city gate near Jiming Temple, and the ticket price was 30 yuan. I heard that some city gates were 50 yuan. The one next to Jiming Temple seems to be called Jiefang Gate, but I don't remember it clearly. Tourists can return by the same route, exit from Jiefang Gate and visit Xuanwu Lake Park. You can also go forward and exit from Taiping Gate. After exiting Taiping Gate, you need to walk downhill and turn right to find the bus stop. There are routes from the bus stop to various scenic spots, which is also very convenient.
The city wall is divided into sections and costs 30 yuan. If you are interested, you can go and have a look.
The quaint, majestic city walls and the beacon towers on them.
The beautiful scenery of lakes and mountains and the ancient city wall are really worth a visit!
After Jiming Temple is the Ming City Wall next to it. Not far to the left, under the city wall is Xuanwu Lake Park. There are half-price tickets for students with student ID cards. You can see Jiming Temple and Xuanwu Lake Park on the city wall. The air on the city wall is also very good, making people linger.
The Ming City Wall is a historical ancient capital of my country. The Ming City Wall is mainly composed of four layers of walls, including the solemn palace city, the majestic imperial city, the ancient capital city, and the exquisite outer wall.
After the rain, I walked along the Duanming City Wall. From Jiming Temple to Xuanwu Gate.
Xuanwu Gate is well preserved and there are not many people in the park.
There is a detailed introduction of Nanjing Ancient City Wall and the process of applying for World Heritage status. Standing on the city wall, the view of Jiming Temple is beautiful. The scenery of Xuanwu Lake under the city wall is also good.
"The most heartless are the willow trees in the city, which are still shrouded in smoke for ten miles." Wei Zhuang left this endless poem here. Standing on the Ming City Wall, you can overlook the Jiming Temple on the left and the Xuanwu Lake on the right, a different perspective
It is recommended to go to the Zhonghua Gate section. Zhonghua Gate is the main gate of the Nanjing City Wall and the largest existing city gate in China. This city gate has four arch gates and three Wengcheng. Zhonghua Gate was originally named Jubao Gate. It is said that it was named because a cornucopia was buried under the city wall. It was renamed Zhonghua Gate in the Republic of China, but I feel that Zhonghua Gate is more in line with the cultural atmosphere. At present, only the main building and the city gate are left in the castle. The tower was blown up by Japanese artillery fire during the Anti-Japanese War. But the remaining main body alone can imagine the magnificent scene at that time. There is also a hidden soldier cave in the building, where war reserve military supplies and ambushed soldiers can be hidden. This is something I have never seen in the city walls I have visited before. Standing on the tower, you can see the Da Baoen Temple outside the city. It is more interesting to watch the sunset here. The setting sun shines on the city wall with golden light. Standing on the city wall, touching the vicissitudes of the wall bricks, you can feel the migration of time and the changes of years, but also feel the unique charm of an ancient city.
The ancient city wall still stands stubbornly, even though it is covered with wild flowers and weeds. A couple took wedding photos on the city wall. The bride was wearing a bright red dress, which was very beautiful against the blue stone brick background, and was particularly eye-catching on the city wall. If one day, my partner and I come to Nanjing, we will definitely take a group of wedding photos like this on this ancient city wall.
It is particularly eye-catching from a distance, a combination of modern technology and ancient achievements!
Nanjing Ming City Wall is the largest, longest and best-preserved city wall and gate in the world. It is a national cultural relic protection and is applying for World Heritage status.
In the early Ming Dynasty, there were 13 gates in the inner city of Nanjing: Zhengyang Gate (now Guanghua Gate), Tongji Gate, Jubao Gate (now Zhonghua Gate), Sanshan Gate (now Shuixi Gate), Shicheng Gate (now Hanxi Gate), Qingjiang Gate (now Qingliang Gate), Dinghuai Gate, Yifeng Gate, Zhongfu Gate, Jinchuan Gate, Shenshen Gate (now Heping Gate), Taiping Gate, Chaoyang Gate. Some people connect the inner city wall and the gates to make it look like Zhu Yuanzhang's head, which is amazing. The jingle "Sanshan Jubao is near Tongji, Zhengyang Chaoyang Dingtaiping, Shenshen Jinchuan is near Zhongfu, Yifeng Dinghuai Qingshicheng" helps to remember.
The city gates built during the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China include: Zhongshan Gate, Xuanwu Gate, Yijiang Gate, Hanzhong Gate, Central Gate, Wuding Gate, Yuhua Gate, Caochang Gate, Xinmin Gate, Xiaobei Gate, Zhonghua East Gate, and Zhonghua West Gate.
After the founding of New China, new city gates opened include Jiefang Gate, Jiqing Gate, Huayangang Gate, Changgan Gate and Biaoying Gate.
The park is peaceful.
One little girl fell down, and another little girl immediately ran over and helped her up. She didn’t cry but laughed happily. My heart melted.
Some people always say that traveling is boring, but in fact it mainly depends on who you are with.
The city wall encloses the ancient Jianning. Inside the wall is the imperial power, and outside the wall is the foreign power. The ancient tools on the wall show that war starts from opposition, and the wall is the boundary of opposition. Looking at the Xuanwu Lake outside the city, turning around and looking at the tall buildings in the city, peace is so beautiful.
There are several places where you can climb the Ming City Wall. There are three famous urn cities at Zhonghua Gate, which cost 50 yuan per visit. The Xuanwu Gate is located between Jiming Temple and Xuanwu Lake, which costs 30 yuan per visit. It feels good to climb up and look into the distance.
I didn't go up to take a look, but I heard there was a charge for it, haha.
I can only say that I like all the Great Walls, they are shocking enough!
The Ming City Wall is worth a visit. Two types of tickets are sold, one with a postcard, but I didn't buy it last time. At the end of the walk, you can go to the White Horse Park and then to the Observatory.
Each brick of the city wall had a manufacturing unit. If there was a problem with the brick, it would be easy to tell who made it. People at that time thought of this method to prevent counterfeiting. People today can learn from it.
Nanjing Ming City Wall, as a whole, includes the four walls of the palace city, the imperial city, the capital city and the outer city built during the Ming Dynasty. Now it mostly refers to the well-preserved capital city (inner city) wall. The construction of Nanjing Ming City Wall began in 1366 (the 26th year of Zhizheng in the Yuan Dynasty) and was completed in 1393 (the 26th year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty). It mobilized 280,000 workers from 28 prefectures, 152 counties and cities in five provinces, and about 350 million bricks. It took 27 years to complete the four-layer city wall pattern of the capital of the Ming Dynasty.
The ruins of the Ming City Wall, Nanjing Ming City Wall is the longest ancient city wall in the world
The mark of history is evident here. Things have changed and people have changed, but we can still appreciate the past glory.
Ancient city wall~~Walk up and look for traces of history
You can walk along the city wall and see the city of Nanjing. In fact, I prefer this side because you can see a lot of things.
The ancient city wall is very meaningful and worth taking the time to read.
The Ming City Wall is a very suitable place for selfies. To be honest, there are very few tourists visiting the Ming City Wall, and it is very quiet. Moreover, the museum of the Ming City Wall is very nice, and the history and other aspects are well explained. The guides inside are also very attentive, and you can also take a tour. Overall, it is very well prepared. Moreover, the various scenic spots of the Ming City Wall are now connected, and one ticket can go from one gate to another, which is very good.
You can see Jiming Temple, Xuanwu Lake and the Olympic rings. The tickets are not expensive and worth it.
It is very close to Jiming Temple. Many locals take wedding photos here. The farther you go, the fewer people there are and the more beautiful the scenery is. If you have time, you can walk along the city wall completely.
The Nanjing City Wall is just behind the Jiming Temple. There is a passage in the Jiming Temple that leads directly to the top of the city wall. There are many exits along the way that lead down to Xuanwu Lake. There are many siege/defense weapons on the city wall. In addition, you can also overlook Xuanwu Lake. The view is very wide. The only thing that seems out of place is the five-ring logo of the Nanjing Youth Olympic Games.
When I was a kid, I took photos at this gate when I went to Nanjing. I went there again when I went to Nanjing this time. I saw it when I came out of Xuanwu Lake Park. It's nice. There is a section of Ming Great Wall ruins along Xuanwu Lake. The total length is 33.676 kilometers. When it was first built, there were 13 gates. Later, each dynasty blocked or opened them. In the 1950s after the founding of the People's Republic of China, most of the gates and about one-third of the city wall of Nanjing were demolished. There are nine sections of the city wall, 14 and a half city gates (five and a half Ming city gates - including the Ming city gates rebuilt after the founding of the People's Republic of China, one Qing city gate, five Republic of China city gates, and three city gates after the founding of the People's Republic of China), and two ruins in Nanjing Ming City Wall.
The gates of the Ming city wall were called "13 inner gates and 18 outer gates", which means that there were 13 gates in the capital and 18 outer gates. Of the gates we see now, only 4 are the original gates of the Ming Dynasty capital wall, namely: Zhonghua Gate, Hanxi Gate, Shen Ce Gate and Qingliang Gate (all of which are the current names).
Recently, I took the opportunity to visit these gates while Nanjing's Ming City Wall was fully open to the public. Below is the current condition of these Ming Dynasty city gates.
It is convenient to go there on the way to Xuanwu Lake, and it is not far from Jiming Temple.
It's nice to come and have a look when the weather is good. There is a small exhibition hall on top.
This is the most distinctive attraction in Nanjing, bar none!
There is an entrance to the Ming City Wall near Xuanwu Lake, which is Xuanwu Gate. We climbed the ancient city wall from here and looked out over Xuanwu Lake. Nanjing Ming City Wall was built based on the famous saying "Build high walls, store grain, and slowly claim the throne", which built the largest city wall in Chinese history. After many vicissitudes of history, it was almost demolished several times, but was finally saved by several groups of knowledgeable people. Due to time constraints, we only walked a section of the Ming City Wall near Xuanwu Gate. Although the city wall has been repaired, you can still see the ancient monuments from hundreds of years ago. Many bricks have records of the brick makers. These words tell the history of the city wall. The blue sky is long, the white clouds are long, and the white clouds are changing, but the city wall remains the same!
