Sheshan Qixia Temple

Sheshan Qixia Temple is located on Qixia Mountain in the northeast of Nanjing. It is one of the four famous temples in China and the birthplace of the "Three Theory School" of Jiangnan Buddhism. Qixia Temple is not only large in scale and magnificent in palaces, but also the best scenery in Nanjing. It is also famous for its important position in the history of Chinese Buddhism. In 1983, it was designated as a national key Buddhist temple in the Han area by the State Council.
Qixia Temple covers an area of more than 40 mu, with three courtyards including the Pilu Hall and the Sutra Library. It rises layer by layer according to the mountain terrain, with a neat and beautiful structure. Main attractions: The stupa of Qixia Temple is a relic of the Southern Tang Dynasty. It is one of the oldest stone pagodas south of the Yangtze River and the largest stupa in my country. The stone pagoda is octagonal and five-level, about 15 meters high. The base is surrounded by stone railings with hook lines, which was restored from the original objects of the Five Dynasties excavated in modern times. The ground of the base is carved with sea water, dragons, phoenixes, fish and shrimps, etc., and only a part of it remains. The eight phases of Sakyamuni are embossed on each side of the Xumi seat under the tower. After thousands of years of wind and rain, although some of the stone eaves have been destroyed, it still stands tall, becoming a witness to the great Buddhist spirit in Jinling. The Great Buddha Pavilion, also known as the Three Saints Hall, is dedicated to the Buddha of Infinite Life and was excavated during the Southern Qi Dynasty. The Buddha statue is 10.8 meters tall when sitting, and 13.3 meters tall with the seat. Guanyin and Shizhi Bodhisattva stand on the left and right, 11 meters tall. The pleated style of the Buddha statue is quite similar to the Yungang Stone Buddha in Datong. Originally, there were two welcoming Buddha statues beside the stupa, which were over three meters high, beautiful and elegant, similar to the Longmen Stone Buddha in Luoyang, and also a rare treasure from the golden age of Chinese Buddhist art. Qianfoyan is known as the "Yungang in the South of the Yangtze River" and is the only Southern Dynasties grotto in China. Wuliang Hall Wuliang Hall is the earliest and largest Buddha niche in Qianfoyan. The Amitabha Buddha is in the center, with Guanyin and Shizhi on both sides. The statues are well-proportioned and have smooth lines. The folds of the three Buddhas are very similar to those in the Yungang Grottoes, but they were excavated 17 years earlier than the Yungang Grottoes. The statues are exquisite and simple, comparable to the Longmen Grottoes in Datong. Their value lies in preserving the original charm of the Southern Dynasties Buddha statues, which is especially rare in Jiangnan.

Passing through the memorial archway of Qixia Zen Temple, I came to the main gate of the temple. The door knocker on the vermilion gate showed the solemnity of the Zen holy land. There is a plaque erected above the gate, which reads "Sheshan Qixia Temple". Sheshan is another name for Qixia Mountain. When I entered the gate, I first saw a tall incense burner. Turning around, I saw a statue of Bodhidharma walking quickly. Then I walked into a small forest. There were bell towers and drum towers on both sides of the forest. Walking forward, I saw the Panchi of the temple. The incense burner next to the Panchi was filled with smoke, and the faithful men and women were burning incense and praying. Then I walked west along the periphery of the temple. There were lush trees next to it. Next to the tall ginkgo tree was the God of Wealth Temple. I followed this road to the west of the temple and walked up the mountain. There were occasional blooming peach trees on both sides, but many of the flowers had withered.

The best time to view the red maple leaves in Qixia Mountain, Nanjing is said to be mid-November. I came here on December 12 and caught the last wave of maple viewing in 20 years. The maple leaves were almost all red, and Qixia Mountain was all red. The scenery was very beautiful.

There has been a saying about Mount Qixia being "Autumn Qixia" since the Ming Dynasty. "Qixia Red Maple" is one of the new forty scenic spots in Jinling. The mountain is covered with red, like the setting sun, which is spectacular. It attracts many tourists with its unique charm and is one of the four major red leaf viewing scenic spots in my country.

The first thing you see when you enter the scenic area is the gate of Qixia Temple. Many tourists have stopped here to take pictures, and I took a lot of pictures here. After entering the gate, you can see large and dense maple leaves, which is very spectacular.

The ginkgo trees in front of the mountain gate of Qixia Ancient Temple have not yet lost all their leaves, so I was able to admire the red walls and yellow leaves, which was also a delightful thing.

We took the scenic area's sightseeing bus to the "Tiger Mountain" halfway up the mountain and then walked down the mountain. The red maple, Japanese maple, liquidambar, Chinese tallow tree, beech and other colorful leaf tree species on Qixia Mountain changed their colors. The weather that day was also very good, and the blue sky and red leaves were dazzling and pleasing to the eye. Qixia Mountain, one of the four major red leaf viewing scenic spots, really feels worth a visit!

As one of the four famous temples in China and the ancestral home of the Three Treatises School of Buddhism, Qixia Temple was built in 489 AD and has a history of more than 1,500 years. The square in front of the temple is very open, with two lush ginkgo trees in front of the gate, an endless stream of pilgrims, and stone tablets, all of which show the antiquity of this temple. The main attractions in the temple include the stupa, the Wuliang Hall, the Thousand Buddha Rock, etc.

Actually... that's it. Anyway, there is no special place to see maple leaves around Shanghai.

There are more people than trees, so the photos can only be partial.

It is very inconvenient to leave the transportation; even if you get a Didi car, it will instantly turn into a black car and overcharge you or refuse to take you.

Tickets: 40

Transportation: Relatively far away, accessible by public transportation

The clouds and mist in Qixia are as beautiful as a painting. The sunny weather coupled with the fireworks in the temples form a moving autumn scroll.

I have been to Qixia many times, and the most unforgettable thing is enjoying the red leaves of Qixia with my students.

When I came to Qixia Temple, I couldn't help but take photos of the red. The two ginkgo trees in front of Qixia Temple are also very beautiful. The sun shines through the leaves, and the golden color is no less beautiful than the red leaves on the mountain.

Not for seeking Buddha, but for the dangerous peaks.

A touch of red amidst the green mountains.

By West Wind Red |

The scenic area is dominated by maple leaves, which is very distinctive. At the entrance is Sheshan Qixia Temple, an ancient temple. There is a wooden plank road up the mountain, or you can take a scenic shuttle bus up the mountain. There are many scenic spots. In late autumn, the maple leaves are red, orange, yellow, and green, and with other tree species such as Liquidambar formosana, the forest is full of colors, which is very beautiful.

The main attraction of Qixia Mountain, Qixia Temple, is surrounded by golden ginkgo trees. It is so beautiful that you can no longer tell whether the main attraction is the Qixia Temple or the ginkgo trees.

Qixia Temple is so big! Qixia Mountain is also fun, especially suitable for playing with friends.

The most famous scenic spot in Qixia Mountain is a must-see~

Climb the Bodhi Path and enter the Prajna Gate. When I first saw Qixia Temple, the quiet Zen temple after the snow was fascinating.

It must be said that the red leaves of Qixia Mountain are really worth photographing.

Qixia Mountain is quite far away. You have to take the subway to the end and then transfer to the bus. It takes more than two hours to get out of the city. You must go early, because if the light is good and the leaves are red, you can take photos for a long time. When you come back, you can take a Didi. Squeezing on the bus may cost you half your life. . .

Located at the foot of Qixia Mountain, you can pray and burn incense. (The ticket includes three incense sticks)

Autumn is still very beautiful with maple leaves all over the mountains, but it can be a bit cold in late autumn

Get rid of polluted mind and get pure mind; get rid of greed and anger and get compassion;

Get rid of the evil mind and get the right mind; get rid of the worldly mind and get the Tao-mind mind;

Get rid of laziness and gain diligence; get rid of delusion and gain mindfulness;

Get rid of the mind of discrimination and gain the mind of equality; get rid of the mind of calculation and gain the mind of freedom;

Get rid of evil hearts, and you will get loyal hearts; get rid of lonely hearts, and you will get group hearts;

From selfishness, one gains public morality; from the mind of the three realms, one gains Buddhist mind.

Only in this way can one be called a true monk!

It's very beautiful, with all the colors of the forest, very pretty.

Actually, I went there mainly to enjoy the red leaves. Now the temples have become commercialized. You can buy grilled sausages and chicken legs in Buddhist places. I wonder what the Buddha would think.

By Little Fish |

It is still worth visiting Qixia in autumn. You should choose a good weather in late autumn, usually in late November or early December, when the red leaves are widely distributed on the mountain. This is the best time for photography enthusiasts. Sanitary facilities on the mountain need to be added.

By Snow 3 Flying Who |

The ginkgo tree at the entrance of the temple is shining with golden light, which is very beautiful.

By Sky blue |

Is mid-November the best time of the year to come to Qixia Temple? At least in my opinion, the golden ginkgo leaves, the fiery red maple leaves, and the solemn stupa have a history of 1,400 years! The unique tranquility of the temple is so beautiful. Qixia Temple says that no tickets are required, but climbing Qixia Mountain requires tickets. We didn’t go to Qixia Mountain, but we still had to buy tickets to enter! It would be great if they were separated! Recommended must-see attractions in this season! Except that Lucheng is a bit far! Take the No. 3 subway line to Xinzhuang, and change to bus 207 for more than half an hour! It’s worth it for such beauty!

By Tuantuan meow♪de~ |

The maple leaves are beautiful in autumn, and the old ginkgo tree at the entrance of the temple will also amaze you. It is a good place for hiking, fitness and scenery. It is best to go early, as there will be many people on weekends or holidays.

Qixia Temple is a bit far from the city, and it took an hour to get there. Qixia Temple is very popular, and the Thousand Buddha Rock and the stupa inside are quite nice. The Thousand Buddha Rock feels great, but it's a pity that it's severely damaged, and Jiangnan is humid.

By hyacinth! |

Generally, the ticket price is 25 yuan per person, and the bus stop is about 500 meters away from the entrance of the attraction.

Qixia Temple is not big, but the red leaves, Thousand Buddha Caves and stupas in the temple area are quite unique. It is a good choice to visit Qixia Mountain together. The best time to visit is in late November and early December, when the leaves turn red.

The Qixia Ancient Temple was first built in the Southern Qi Dynasty. The decoration and setting of the temple are simple and elegant. The relic stone pagoda and Thousand Buddha Rock behind the Pilu Hall are treasures worthy of careful appreciation.

Qixia Temple is located on the west foot of the middle peak of Qixia Mountain in Qixia District, Nanjing City. It is surrounded by mountains on three sides and faces the Yangtze River to the north. It is one of the four famous temples in China, the birthplace of the "Three Treatise School" of Buddhism, and the Buddhist center of China during the Southern and Northern Dynasties. During the Southern Dynasties, it was as famous as Jiming Temple and Dingshan Temple.

Qixia Temple was first built in the seventh year of Yongming in the Southern Qi Dynasty (489 AD). Liang monk Lang promoted the Three Treatises here and was known as the founder of the Three Treatises School in Jiangnan. Emperor Wen of the Sui Dynasty, Yang Jian, built stupas in 83 states, and his edict to build stupas named Qixia Temple in Jiangzhou as the first. In the Tang Dynasty, it was called Gongde Temple, which was huge in scale and was known as one of the four major monasteries in the world, along with Lingyan Temple in Changqing, Shandong, Yuquan Temple in Dangyang, Hubei, and Guoqing Temple in Tiantai, Zhejiang.

In April 1983, Qixia Temple was designated as a national key Buddhist temple in the Han area, and the Qixiashan Branch of the Chinese Buddhist Academy was established in the same year. In January 1988, it was listed as a national key cultural relic protection site.

Qixia Mountain is located in the middle of Qixia District, Nanjing. It was called Sheshan Mountain in ancient times and also called Sanshan Mountain. During the Southern Dynasties, a "Qixia Jingshe" was built in the mountain, hence the name. Qixia Mountain is known as "the Six Dynasties Scenic Spot" and "the Most Beautiful Mountain in Jinling". It was listed as one of the "Forty-eight Scenic Spots in Jinling" in the Qing Dynasty. It is known as "One Qixia Mountain, Half of the History of Jinling". The autumn colors in Qixia are the most beautiful. Unfortunately, it was not the season for red maple leaves when I arrived, but fortunately, my purpose was only to see the Buddha's light on the mountain.

By Close yet distant |

Entering the mountain gate, you will see the Maitreya Buddha Hall, followed by the Mahavira Hall, where Sakyamuni Buddha is enshrined. Behind it is the Vairocana Hall, where the golden body of Vairocana Buddha is enshrined, and behind the Buddha is the statue of Guanyin of the Sea Island. After the Vairocana Hall, the Dharma Hall, the Buddhist Chanting Hall and the Sutra Library are built on the mountain. After passing these main buildings, you can see the stupa. The stupa was first built in the second year of Renshou in the Sui Dynasty and rebuilt during the Southern Tang Dynasty. It is one of the oldest stone pagodas south of the Yangtze River and the largest stupa in my country.

Qixia Temple was originally called Qixia Jingshe. It was renamed Gongde Temple and Yinjun Qixia Temple in the Tang Dynasty. It was renamed Miaoyin Temple in the Southern Tang Dynasty. It was renamed Puyun Temple, Qixia Temple, Yanyin Chongbao Zen Temple, Jingde Qixia Temple, and Huxue Temple (because Qixia Mountain is also known as Huxue Mountain) in the Song Dynasty. It was renamed Qixia Temple in the fifth year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1372). When the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom fought against the Qing army in the late Qing Dynasty, Qixia Temple was destroyed in the war. The current temple was rebuilt in 1919.

Qixia Temple is located on Qixia Mountain in the northeast of Nanjing. It is one of the four famous temples in China and the birthplace of the "Three Theory School" of Jiangnan Buddhism. Qixia is an ancient temple with a large scale and extraordinary palace style. The various mottled patterns on the Thousand Buddha Cliff show us its vicissitudes. There are Bodhisattvas in each cave. There are various caves of various sizes on the cliff. The largest one is the god and Buddha that emitted the "Buddha light" before. Climb slowly along the mountain road. The mountain road is steep. There are some one-person-wide steps winding up in the first half. Passing the platform of the "Shou" stone and going up is really climbing a mountain. After going down the mountain, we went to the stupa. The eight sides of the Xumi seat of the stupa are engraved with the "Eight Phases of Enlightenment" of Sakyamuni Buddha. The tower body is engraved with reliefs such as Manjusri, Samantabhadra Bodhisattva and the Four Heavenly Kings. The inclined surface under the eaves is also engraved with flying celestials, Le Tian, and offering heavenly beings. The carvings are exquisite and delicate, attracting me to stop and appreciate slowly. Qixia has long been famous for its efficacy. Even if you don't burn incense or make a wish, you still have to go to the temple to have a look. The back door of the main hall is closed, and there is a golden plaque hanging on it that reads "Overcome all sufferings", and directly opposite it is the abbot's hospital. This layout always reveals a sense of mission. Turning the corner, passing through the corridor, it gradually becomes lively, and you will reach the main hall of Qixia. Like Jiming Temple, Qixia Temple is a temple left over from the Southern Dynasties, with a history of more than a thousand years. The stupa in the backyard of the temple and the Thousand Buddha Cliff on the cliff are witnesses of that era. There used to be "480 temples in the Southern Dynasties, many towers in the mist and rain", but now there are only these two ruins in Nanjing. Qixia Temple is located at the foot of Qixia Mountain, and you can see the scenery of Qixia Mountain. From the Thousand Buddha Cliff at the foot of the mountain, follow the prayer flags all the way up to the top of the mountain. Qixia Mountain in autumn is more charming than in spring.

By Wandering around the world |

Climbing the trail of Qixia Mountain---the original intention was to see the maple leaves of Qixia Mountain, but the time was wrong, and only a few maple leaves turned red.

It is said that locals like to burn incense and make wishes in the temple, but there were not many people when I went there. The ticket was 35 yuan. There was a special bus directly to the city. There were no snacks around, so I went back to the city for lunch.

By Look around |

There are many people and the tickets are not cheap. But the temple is very old and has a lot of charm, the stone carvings are good, the Bodhisattva is very kind, and the monks are not friendly.

Qixia Temple is large in scale and has extraordinary palaces. It is the best place for scenery in Nanjing. It has an important and famous position in the history of Chinese Buddhism. Qixia Temple is one of the ancestral temples of the Three Treatise School of Chinese Buddhism. The ticket price during the Spring Festival is 35 yuan, and 17 yuan for people over 60 years old. The thousand-year-old Qixia Temple is very precious because of the Buddha's skull relic bones enshrined in it. There are Maitreya Hall, Daxiong Hall, Pilu Hall, Dharma Hall, Chanting Hall, Sutra Library, Jianzhen Memorial Hall, and Relic Stone Pagoda in the temple. Behind the temple, in the rocks behind the relic pagoda, there is a group of caves excavated in the Southern Dynasties, with more than 500 Buddha statues carved inside, called Thousand Buddha Cliff. It has a long history and is worth savoring. It is very convenient to change from subway to bus.

The Qixia Temple in late autumn was the most stunning visual feast of my trip.

Climbing is a must. The Thousand Buddha Caves are still a little shocking. Some of the Buddha statues are incomplete. Even in the peaceful lotus pure land, it is difficult to escape the disaster of the world.

There is also a legend about Qixia Temple, which is about the Japanese. Personally, I think the entire Qixia Mountain is very ordinary, but if you climb to the top of the mountain, you can overlook the Yangtze River and enjoy the scene of hundreds of boats competing for the current.

The Qixia Temple is very popular, but I am an outsider and can only express my devout worship from afar.

By weiwei915 |

There is a long trail in front of Qixia Temple, with sycamore trees planted on both sides. The forks of the sycamore trees are so low that it looks like Nanjing. Although the leaves are not as beautiful as those on Beishan Road in Hangzhou, it is satisfying. The sun shines on the ground, rustling. At the end, you can see red walls and little lions, just like all temples. Two strong men and four Vajra. The Vajra is very cute. I took out the only change in my pocket and gave it to the Southern Guangmu Tianwang and the childish Bodhisattva... I was happy.

The largest temple in Nanjing, it is very popular. There is a saying among the people that spring is in the beginning of the year and autumn is in the beginning of the year. The best time to visit is in October or early November. In late autumn, the mountains are covered with red, which is very beautiful.

The scenery of Qixia Mountain is pretty good, especially when the mountain is covered with red leaves, but the journey is too far. It took several hours of bumpy ride from the city to get there, which was depressing. . . . The Qixia Temple is very popular, and there are so many people in the temple.

A very popular temple in Nanjing in autumn, it is a good place to enjoy the red leaves. You can watch the rolling Yangtze River from the top of the mountain. It is far from the city. It is more convenient than Jiming Temple in the city, but sincerity is the key. It is good to feel the nature.

This is a relatively famous temple. Many people come here to burn incense and pray for blessings. Especially on New Year's Eve, there will be a bell-ringing ceremony here. The Qixia Mountain where it is located is also picturesque.

The main purpose of going to Qixia Mountain in autumn is to see the red maple leaves. Burning incense and eating vegetarian food are secondary. The red and yellow maple leaves all over the mountain are really beautiful. The mountain is not high, so you can walk around and enjoy the cool autumn air, which makes you feel relaxed and happy.

Many devout Buddhists come here to visit, especially during the Chinese New Year. In addition to burning incense at Qixia Temple, the scenery of Qixia Mountain is also very beautiful. I went there in autumn, and the maple leaves on the mountain were particularly red, which was a very beautiful scenery.

The scenery inside is okay, and it is suitable to go during the Red Maple Festival.

There are relics in the temple

We still think maple leaves are more worthy of appreciation.

The maple leaves are not as beautiful as those on Xiangshan Mountain in Beijing.

The garden is just the right size, not too tiring

Qixia Temple is quite famous, but it is a bit far from the city. It is more convenient to go to Jiming Temple.

When I was a child, I was taken to Qixia every year to see the red leaves.

Now, you can see red leaves anywhere in Nanjing, so it seems that you don’t have to go to Qixia.

The vegetarian noodles in Qixia are very delicious, much better than those in Jiming Temple and Linggu Temple.

Qixia Mountain is more famous for "Peach Blossom Fan" and Li Xiangjun

In fact, in my impression, only the red leaves, the Thousand Buddha Rocks and the stupa are the Qixia Mountain. I don't feel much about the newly built plank roads and so on.

The temple inside is quite big and the incense is quite prosperous. I heard that there is Buddha light there, I want to see it with my own eyes

The most outstanding thing here recently is the relic. There was a public tour some time ago, but I missed it. I am so sorry. I don't know if I can still see it now. The temple is very big and the scenery is beautiful. It is a famous ancient temple. It is just a little far from the city center. The most impressive thing is the ancient stone carvings in the temple.

The student ticket is half price at only 10 yuan, which is super awesome and cheap! The only regret is that the maple leaves are not yet fully red. But it is very suitable for exercising and burning incense and worshiping Buddha. It is super fun.

Niu Shou in spring, Qixia in autumn. Qixia Temple is a beautiful place to visit in autumn to see the red maple leaves all over the mountains. Now that there are Buddha relics inside, it is even more worthwhile to burn incense.

I went there in autumn. All along the way up the mountain, there were Buddha statues of all sizes on the mountain walls. I climbed over the top of the mountain, looked at the red leaves all over the mountain, and strolled in the corridor formed by the red maples. It was so romantic~~

As one of the most famous temples in Nanjing, many people say that it is very effective and will work if you are sincere!

I know this temple because of the maple leaves. I go there every autumn. It is very beautiful. It is just too remote. It takes a long time to get there by car. It is also very popular. It is said that even Li Yapeng and Faye Wong went there a while ago. It seems that it is well-known.
