Zhanyuan is known as the first garden in Jinling. It is quite large and worth a visit. In summer, it is lush and green, and there are small bridges and flowing water, which should make it cooler. In winter, it feels bleak when it rains. The cats are really pitiful. It was raining at nearly 0 degrees, and then I saw four cats squatting on the railings, letting the tourists around take pictures. It is really a difficult action to lie down like this.

Zhanyuan is one of the four great gardens in Jiangnan. It was once the residence of Xu Da, a founding hero of the Ming Dynasty, given by Zhu Yuanzhang. Later, he was killed by Zhu Yuanzhang. It was like living with a tiger. When Emperor Qianlong visited Jiangnan, he stayed in this garden and inscribed the plaque "Zhanyuan". Later, Zhanyuan was the office of the governors of Jiangnan in the Qing Dynasty. During the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom period, it was the palace of Yang Xiuqing, the Eastern King. It was also the filming location of the 1987 version of "Dream of Red Mansions" and Zhao Yazhi's version of "Legend of the White Snake". Tickets are 40 yuan during the day and 70 yuan at night. Zhanyuan was originally the residence of Xu Da, a general who founded the Ming Dynasty. In the Qing Dynasty, every governor lived here. The other half is a Jiangnan garden, known as one of the four famous gardens in Jiangnan, and is very close to Confucius Temple. I entered through the Zhanyuan Road Gate. I live nearby so I went there early, around 8am. There was almost no one in the park, so the scenery looked better. I really like classical gardens. I have seen Zhanyuan in magazines before. I came here today and I think the scenery is very good. I also chatted with the aunts in the venue and asked them about the history of Nanjing. It was also very pleasant. Overall, it is good and worth recommending.

I originally thought that Zhanyuan was a mansion plus its gardens, and I understood that mansion plus gardens meant the house and the small courtyard inside it. Later I was wrong, and I realized that my knowledge of Jiangnan gardens was too narrow.

Generally speaking, you should enter from the main gate, and then volunteers will give free explanations. After you have finished your visit, you can go into the gardens. But we were amazing. We entered from the west gate, visited the gardens, and then went in from the back door of the main hall. When we ran to the front of the main hall, the volunteers just started to explain. We kept hearing the back door of the main hall. Then we went back to the front exit of the main gate and went out. (The order was wrong. I felt that some of my views on the gardens were not right, which led to a biased experience, 555...)

I went to the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom History Museum in the main hall. I was so engrossed in the explanations of the volunteers that I basically didn't take any photos. After the entire city of the Ming Dynasty was burned down, Hong Xiuquan built a new city and palace, which was really luxurious and beautiful. Unfortunately, it was burned down again because of wars. And after listening to the explanations of the volunteers, I learned about the role of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom in Chinese history and the promotion of some policies. So the emergence of everything has its cause and meaning. Nothing in the world is accidental, but inevitable.

We entered through the northwest gate, which was a small and inconspicuous gate.

I came to the garden to take photos today, and Xingzi specially changed into Hanfu. This set is Hanfu from the Wei and Jin Dynasties. The simple and elegant color matching is very suitable for taking photos in the garden. I personally think that it is not appropriate to wear too bright Hanfu when taking photos in the garden, otherwise the character will be very jumpy and cannot be integrated into the atmosphere of the garden.

The essence of a garden lies in the changing scenery as you move. Although Zhanyuan is not large in area, you will find a different kind of beauty when you turn a corner.

There are few people in Zhanyuan after nightfall. The trees, waterside and eaves are shining with lively lights, as if little elves have lit up the whole garden.

The tickets are purchased in advance, and you need to go to the second floor of Tianyue Building of Aerospace Management Cadre College next to Zhanyuan to exchange tickets (available before 17:00). Zhanyuan tickets are divided into daytime and nighttime, and nighttime tickets are more expensive. It is said that it is also possible to enter the park before 17:00 and stay until the nighttime, but I think an hour is enough for visiting Zhanyuan.

Coming out of the museum, there are pavilions, towers, corridors and rockeries. Unfortunately, some areas are under renovation, so there are not many areas to visit. In one corner of the courtyard, I saw red maple trees, which are often called red leaves. In another corner, there were ginkgo leaves all over the place, and the ground was golden. The corner of the pavilion feels a little different from the usual corners of pavilions, and there are red lanterns hanging on it.

It is recommended to come here at 4 pm. Buy the daytime ticket directly at the door, stroll until the lights come on, and see the night view together. Children and the elderly have discount tickets, so there is no need to buy in advance. I listened to the tour guide all the way and felt that the explanation was good. The historical facts, legends and anecdotes were as if I were there. Finally, the tour guide explained the benefits of silver utensils with passion and emotion, and then I suddenly realized that it was because the souvenir shop was the terminal of this tour guide. Instantly, I felt that the commercial atmosphere that came to my face swept away the profound cultural heritage of Zhanyuan. I walked until 6 pm, the sky gradually darkened, and the lights in the garden gradually lit up. The pavilions and towers surrounded by bright light strips show another kind of charm of the garden. It should be noted that the indoor attractions such as the memorial hall on the right side of the garden are all closed at 5 o'clock, so if you want to visit the memorial hall, you have to come early, and you can't visit it with night tickets.

Zhanyuan is the oldest existing Ming Dynasty classical garden in Nanjing. Its architectural style combines the characteristics of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and its layout is elegant and exquisite. There are magnificent ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing Dynasties, such as Laishuangfengqingtang and Yilanlou.

Zhanyuan was originally the residence of Xu Da, the King of Zhongshan, and later served as the East Palace of Yang Xiuqing. It is quite large and a typical Jiangnan garden. Now it is also the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Museum, with many cultural relics related to the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom.

Jinling First Garden is divided into daytime tickets and nighttime tickets. We bought the nighttime tickets and went in as soon as possible to see the daytime scenery. After sitting for a while, the nighttime scenery came out. There are free explanations. We went in at the entrance time at night and just caught up. The Hui-style architectural courtyard is beautiful!

Zhanyuan is located in the core area of ​​the Qinhuai Scenic Belt of Confucius Temple in Qinhuai District, Nanjing. The ticket price is 30 yuan. It is one of the four famous gardens in Jiangnan. It is the best-preserved classical garden complex of the Ming Dynasty in Nanjing and the only Ming Dynasty palace open to the public. Later, I found out that "Dream of Red Mansions" and "Legend of the New White Snake" were both filmed here. So far, some parts of this place are still under construction. However, I still have another suggestion that its pond is a bit unworthy of the price of our ticket. It is basically dead. I hope the garden can tidy it up. In addition, there are still many cats here, and they are all fat and friendly. If you come in spring, all kinds of flowers here are in bloom, which will be a different style.

Zhanyuan is the best-preserved group of classical gardens and buildings from the Ming Dynasty in Nanjing. It is also the only Ming Dynasty royal palace that is open to the public. It is known as one of the "Four Famous Gardens in Jiangnan" along with Jichang Garden in Wuxi, Humble Administrator's Garden in Suzhou and Lingering Garden. Zhanyuan was once part of the residence of Xu Da, a founding hero of the Ming Dynasty, and was also the office location of the governors of Jiangnan during the Qing Dynasty.

Zhanyuan covers an area of ​​about 20,000 square meters, with more than 20 scenic spots of various sizes. This was the first attraction I visited in Nanjing. It was a pleasant surprise. For someone who grew up in the north, this kind of southern garden is very attractive and every corner is beautiful.

I booked the ticket for Zhanyuan Garden online. You need to pick up the ticket, a list, the pick-up location is not far from Zhanyuan Garden, and the pick-up time must be within the time specified by the seller. Visiting the garden is 30% looking and 70% listening. I listened to the explanation at the entrance. I learned a lot of history from the explanation of the guide. The ancients really paid attention to Feng Shui, and they were very skillful and cultured.

There is a Taiping Heavenly Kingdom History Museum in Zhanyuan, and there are somatosensory games in the museum that can be played for free. The 1987 version of "Dream of Red Mansions" and Zhao Yazhi's version of "Legend of the White Snake" were filmed in Zhanyuan.

Pay attention to the route map on the back of the ticket. It can take 1-2 hours to visit. When I was visiting, I often saw little girls wearing Republic of China style clothes taking pictures inside. They were very beautiful. There are many Republic of China costumes for rent in Nanjing. The ladies suggest that you can rent a set. The photos will look very beautiful.

The morning sun shines on Zhanyuan Garden. Listening to the birds singing, watching the swans swimming and the willows swaying by the roadside, I really feel that time is peaceful.

Tourists need to buy tickets to enter, but local senior citizens should be able to enter and exit for free with their senior citizen cards, so it is not difficult to see scenes full of the atmosphere of fireworks in the park. The elderly in Nanjing seem to be particularly fond of chess. Walking in the streets and alleys, the most common things you see are people enjoying chess.

One of the selling points in Zhanyuan is an exhibition hall of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, but it was closed on Monday when we went there, so we didn't visit it.

Next to Zhanyuan is Confucius Temple, which is only a few minutes' walk away.

A typical Jiangnan garden, elegant, exquisite, quiet and peaceful. The most important thing is that there are few tourists. I only met one tour group in the whole garden, and the rest were individual tourists in twos and threes. The comfort of few people is that I can stop and take pictures at a place I like, even if I take a long time, no one will disturb me. In some remote small courtyards, I can stay alone for more than ten or twenty minutes. I really like this kind of leisurely and slow travel without crowds!

Actually, I was very curious about what activities were available in the night tour of Zhanyuan Garden that made the ticket price more expensive than that during the day. I visited the garden during the day because I felt that the garden would not be so beautiful after dark. I entered Zhanyuan Garden at around four o'clock in the afternoon and came out when it was almost dark at seven o'clock. It took about two hours, which was enough for a complete tour of Zhanyuan Garden.

There is more than one museum in Zhanyuan. As long as you buy a ticket to enter, these museums will not charge any additional fees. But it should be noted that the museum's [closing time] is 17:30, which coincides with the start of the Zhanyuan night show. Therefore, if you buy a night show ticket and come at night, you will not be able to visit the museum.

Walking in the Jiangnan gardens, my favorite photography technique is to frame the scenery. Framing is also one of the methods of landscape construction in architecture and gardens. It uses door frames, window frames, tree frames, caves, etc. to selectively capture the beautiful scenery of the space, forming a landscape method like a picture embedded in a frame. We entered through a small door. After 18:00, all other doors will be closed, and there is only one door to go out. But there are very few staff inside. If you have the chance, you should go in through the main door so that you can see more.

Later, the lights were turned on in the garden, and it felt different. I heard that this was also the location for the filming of Dream of the Red Chamber in 1987. When there were few people, I felt like I was in another world.

The map instructions were useless for a person like me who is bad at finding directions (there were few road signs). As a result, we kept going around in circles after dark. Later, we met a sister who was bringing her children to play, and she took us out. We also found that the garden is actually very, very large, and we didn’t see many of the scenery.

There are several wild cats inside. One of them is very friendly to people. When I squatted down to take a picture of it, it rubbed me with its tail, which is very cute.

When I left, the cat was lying under a tree licking its fur. The wind was blowing gently through the leaves. It was really beautiful. All it saw was the garden, with a peaceful and quiet feeling.

Sitting on the corridor in the evening breeze, watching the sky gradually getting dark, without thinking about anything, just staring blankly, stealing a moment of leisure!

I booked a package of cruise and Zhanyuan Garden on China-TravelNote in advance. I took the subway to pick up the ticket. I felt that the Confucius Temple scenic area was not convenient to the subway station and I had to walk a long way! The place to pick up the ticket was close to Zhanyuan Garden. As the "First Garden in Jinling", the scenery was just so-so. Anyway, I wanted to come in and see it even though I had never been there. When I really got here, I didn't feel anything. I found that there were people taking photos in Hanfu in the garden, which was quite in tune with the scenery. It was a good location for taking pictures!

The White Mansion of the White Snake~~~~In the Legend of the New White Snake, the White Mansion transformed by Bai Suzhen was filmed here~~~but there is no prototype...it's a pity...............

Zhanyuan is the oldest existing garden in Nanjing. There is a Taiping Heavenly Kingdom History Museum in the garden, which has very detailed displays. I, a history novice, didn't see much of it with my luggage. The exhibition hall is open until 4 pm. Friends who are interested in this period of history should come early to see it.

The pavilions and towers in the garden are reflected by the mountains and water, which is very elegant. The moon gate, the sycamore trees, and the overlapping rockeries make the scenery very layered. If you bring your children, you can just look at the scenery and learn more about the allusions later. (I later learned that it was the filming location of Dream of Red Mansions and Legend of the New White Snake. I didn't do my homework well. If you are interested, you can go and explore it).

Jinling's No. 1 Garden is very famous. I suggest not to go there at night, because the exhibition hall is closed and the guide is also very bad-tempered. It may be better during the day, but it is generally not recommended.

The first garden in Jinling, Zhanyuan, is not as famous as it seems, although the ticket is only ￥25. The corridors and pavilions around it would have been a different sight if they were carefully decorated in its heyday, but now the maintenance is very rough, so it is not very good.

The former back garden of the royal palace is a typical Jiangnan garden with pavilions, Taihu stones, small bridges and flowing water, similar to Suzhou gardens. It is close to Confucius Temple and is very convenient to visit. It is recommended to ask a tour guide to explain. You will find one of the filming locations of "The Legend of the New White Snake" and you don't have to rush to see it... On the way, there is also a bold and lazy cat in the yard🐈

A typical Jiangnan garden, the pavilions, towers and rockery are all very beautiful, but it is better to go when there are fewer people.

Tickets are ￥30/person, there are discounts for online e-tickets, and buying them two hours in advance is cheaper than buying them on the spot.

Because I had been to Suzhou's Humble Administrator's Garden before, I had some knowledge of Jiangnan gardens, but my parents had never been there, so the pavilions, towers, lakes and gardens were quite new to me. Since they are all one of the four major gardens, they are not much different from Suzhou gardens. The gardens are small and can be visited quickly.

Nanjing is the capital of the Six Dynasties and the Eight Beauties of Qinhuai. Tourists who come here often visit the Confucius Temple or the Presidential Palace. In fact, the neglected Zhanyuan Garden is also quite worth seeing.



Zhanyuan, one of the four famous gardens in Jiangnan, was originally the residence of Xu Da in the Ming Dynasty. During the Qing Dynasty, every governor lived here. Oh, by the way, the 1987 version of Dream of Red Mansions and Zhao Yazhi's version of Legend of the White Snake were both filmed here.



Go north along the Qinhuai River and you will see the west gate of the Confucius Temple Tourist Area on your right. Don’t stop and continue north. About 500 meters away, you will see a plaque with the words “The First Garden in Jinling” in the distance. This means you have arrived at Zhanyuan.



Before entering the garden, you must first pass through the entrance hall. Our ancestors set up the entrance hall to create a contrasting surprise. A row of green bamboos pop out straight, and after landing, they stand with their knees straight and their chests and heads held high, looking at you. The first sight of the green bamboos makes you feel good. Opposite the green bamboos is the bonsai garden, where large and small bonsais are crowded together, and the picture in your eyes is particularly full.



Passing through the moon gate, entering the small garden, the dwarf fir is in full bloom. To be honest, I had just seen the red leaves of Hupao before coming to Nanjing, and the beauty was overwhelming and soul-stirring! In comparison, the sparse and bright small sceneries in Zhanyuan are not very interesting. Thinking about it, I will return to the bitter cold land of the north tomorrow, and I feel that this scene is much gentler when I look at it again.



Passing through the pavilion, we came to the center of the garden, where there is a traditional garden structure - a lake and rockery. The scenery here is leisurely, but when you look up at the distant view, the high-rise buildings outside the garden are ugly and have no style, and the gray and dusty background really destroys the atmosphere.



To the east of the lake is the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Museum. It looks like the building is old, and the wooden floor creaks when you step on it. The museum is mostly about history, and there are not many real collections. Just take a look and learn about it.



Zhanyuan Garden is not big, and if you play carefully, an hour or so is enough. It is just the right embellishment to enrich your tour of Confucius Temple and Qinhuai River.

The scenery is nice, but the yard is small, not as impressive as the plane trees on the road in Nanjing. I have been to Suzhou Humble Administrator's Garden, Lion Grove, and Yangzhou Slender West Lake. Looking at this small yard, it doesn't feel big, but it's okay. If you have enough time, you can go there. If you are busy, you can really give up this attraction. By the way, I specially mentioned that I ran into a little turtle on the roadside to find a good home for the little turtle. The little turtle in the yard is happy and enjoys life.

Zhanyuan is the best-preserved classical garden complex of the Ming Dynasty in Nanjing and the only open palace of the Ming Dynasty. It was once part of the residence of Xu Da, a founding hero of the Ming Dynasty.

Zhanyuan Garden really satisfied all my beautiful imaginations of Jiangnan gardens. Although it covers a small area, every inch of land is fully utilized to show the beauty of Jiangnan! Another interesting thing is that the entrance ticket plus the tour guide student price is 20. The tour guides here are all souvenir sellers, so I didn't hear much about the history of the garden. I won't talk nonsense here if I can't remember it clearly.

Take Ouyang Xiu's poem "Looking at the Jade Hall, as if in the sky", it is one of the four famous gardens in Jiangnan. It costs 30 yuan during the day, (I didn't check it carefully when giving the change, and I was given 5 yuan less, which was a bad experience) It costs 70 yuan to visit Zhanyuan at night. There are two gates in Zhanyuan. The ticket prices for the west gate and the east gate are different, and the ticket price for the west gate is cheaper. Zhanyuan was originally the residence of Xu Da, the King of Zhongshan in the Ming Dynasty, and Yang Xiuqing, the East King of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom. The rockery in the garden is full of strange peaks, and the pavilions are quiet and elegant. It is easy to get lost in it. At the east gate is the only Taiping Heavenly Kingdom History Museum in China. The exhibition hall is not big and there are not many cultural relics. After all, the history of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom is not long. (One of the exhibition halls has a horse painted by Xu Beihong) There are mandarin ducks playing in the water in the lake, and there is Northern Song Dynasty granite at the west gate. Visitors who are interested in calligraphy can find the "Tiger Stele", the treasure of the town house. (A century-old stele, the best in the world)

One of the four famous gardens in Jiangnan, highly recommended, in one word, beautiful!

As one of the famous gardens in the south of the Yangtze River and one of the existing Ming Dynasty gardens in Nanjing, Zhanyuan is not well-known. After entering Zhanyuan, you will see the gardens with the characteristics of the south of the Yangtze River: a new scene at every step; a changing scene with every step; winding paths leading to secluded places; exquisite and elegant... If compared with Suzhou gardens, there are still some similarities. Perhaps because the history of the ancient capital of Nanjing is too famous, the scenery of this small jade is not so prominent, but it is still worth seeing.

Zhanyuan Garden in the snow has a unique flavor. I will visit the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Museum next time.

When I went there, Zhanyuan was still under renovation. As for the landscape, if you have been to Suzhou Gardens, I would not recommend coming here.

Zhanyuan was built during the Jiajing period and is the oldest garden in Nanjing. It can also be called Xu Da's residence. I won't tell you that we made up this place. Because we were going to leave the next day, but I felt that there were many places I hadn't visited. So no matter how hard or tired I was, I had to walk to the nearby Zhanyuan to take a look.



I came here because it was the filming location for "The Legend of White Snake" and "A Dream of Red Mansions", but I didn't find many traces of them. There is a tiger stele in the garden. It is said that this tiger stele brought super good feng shui and fortune to Xu Da's entire mansion. If you touch it, you will have such good luck! So of course I had to touch it, and as a result, my Taobao store received a lot of orders that night. I don't know whether it is superstition or superstition or superstition.



Because it is a night view, the ticket is a bit more expensive, because the night view includes the guide service, there will be a guide's explanation, after all, the garden is quite large and a bit like a maze, in the end we almost couldn't get out by ourselves. The pavilions and towers are still full of charm, but because our SLR had no battery at the time, we could only take some pictures with our mobile phone, and the effect was not particularly good.



Personally, I still hope that if I have the chance in the future, I can come back during the day, because the view of the garden during the day is different from that at night. At night, you can see the lights. During the day, you can see the scenery. If it is summer or spring, the lush garden landscape must be more beautiful than in autumn and winter.
