Master of the Nets Garden

The Master of the Nets Garden is a representative work of Suzhou's medium-sized classical landscape gardens. It was first built in the Southern Song Dynasty.
It was originally called "Yuyin" and was named "Wangshiyuan" in 1765, indicating that the owner of the garden was a fisherman.
Although the garden has many buildings, it does not seem dense, and the pond is less than an acre but does not feel small. It can be regarded as a model of Chinese gardens that achieves more with less.
From the main gate to the sedan chair hall, Wanjuan Hall and Xiexiu Tower, they are spread out in sequence along the central axis. The main hall, Wanjuan Hall, is tall and spacious with elegant decoration.
In addition to understanding the mystery of the layout, one of the main features of the garden is to enjoy the folk art performances when the night garden opens every year.

😍The night tour of the Master of Nets Garden is amazing. At first, I didn't understand why everyone recommended the night tour of the Master of Nets Garden. After the visit, I realized that in addition to the elegance of the garden itself, the Master of Nets Garden is also a window for you to quickly understand Suzhou culture. There are wonderful performances of Kunqu Opera, Pingtan, Guqin, and folk music. The program is small and exquisite, and very representative of Suzhou! You can book tickets online. The ticket price is still a little expensive, but it's worth it! 👏

✌The brick-carved gatehouse in front of the main hall, Wanjuan Hall, is exquisitely carved and is the oldest archway in Suzhou gardens. The highlight of Wangshiyuan is the Kunqu opera "Dream in the Garden". The Pingtan performance usually consists of two songs. When there are no tourists, the two actors will discuss the repertoire and singing style.

🎵The folk music performances were very good. Kunqu Opera was performed in different halls. The performances started wherever the tourists walked. The only drawback was that there were many people at night and sometimes it was noisy, so it was impossible to enjoy it quietly. If you want to improve the quality of appreciation, you must sit in the first row! First row! First row! ❗

The Master of the Nets Garden is located at No. 11, Kuojiatou Lane, Daichengqiao Road, in the southeast of Suzhou City. It is a representative work of Suzhou's medium-sized classical landscape gardens. The Master of the Nets Garden was first built during the Chunxi period of the Southern Song Dynasty (1174-1189). In the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty (about 1770 AD), the retired Guanglu Temple Shaoqing Song Zongyuan purchased and rebuilt it, and named the garden "Master of the Nets Garden". The Master of the Nets Garden has changed its owners several times. Most of the owners were literati and scholars, and each of them left poems and inscriptions in the garden. After years of repair and tidying up. The Master of the Nets Garden is a typical private garden that combines a house and a garden. The residential part has four entrances, starting from the sedan chair hall, the large living room, the Xiexiu Building, and the Wufeng Book House, which are unfolded along the central axis. The main hall "Wanjuan Hall" is tall and spacious with elegant decoration.

The gardens I wanted to visit in the afternoon were naturally smaller and more leisurely. I chose the Master of the Nets Garden.

The alleys are winding and twisting, and when you turn a few corners, you suddenly see a clear path. In the book Garden Management, it is recorded that "a market cannot be built as a garden. If you want to build a garden, you must build it in a secluded place. Although the neighbors are common, the door is closed and there is no noise." This is probably what is referring to the Master of the Nets Garden!

So in the misty drizzle, we walked into the quiet alleys deep in the city and experienced the "fisherman's seclusion" life that the owner of the garden dreamed of.

The Master of the Nets Garden in Suzhou is a classical and elegant garden hidden deep in the alleys. With every step, you will see a different scene. The "Moon to the Wind Pavilion" in the garden is a place where you can enjoy the moon during the Mid-Autumn Festival. The three moons shine together in the water, in the mirror, and in the sky, which is extremely beautiful. Although the Master of the Nets Garden is small, it wins with its exquisite layout. The mountains, rocks, flowers, trees, pavilions, and towers are all ingeniously designed. In spring, you can watch the magnolia bloom, in summer, listen to the rain hitting the banana leaves, in autumn, enjoy the moon and drink tea, and in winter, watch the snow covering the stone bridge. The four seasons cycle fully demonstrates the wonderfulness of the Jiangnan garden. Being in it is like stepping into a poem or painting, which makes people feel relaxed and happy and linger.

The most beautiful view in the garden is the high wall across from one direction of the garden. It is also the only place worth seeing. Although I don’t like it very much, there are many foreign groups in the Garden of the Master of Nets. Local people in Suzhou say that the Garden of the Master of Nets is mainly a good place to drink tea and listen to Pingtan.

By Wangzi |

The night tour is really bad, it is a complete scam for foreigners. The performance is not sincere, the dream in the garden is out of breath, the voice is weak. The male and female actors sing without beauty. There are several mistakes in the flute performance, and there is no breath control at all. The garden is very small, and the sound of each performance interferes with each other... It is really rubbish

The Master of the Nets Garden is a small but exquisite masterpiece of Suzhou gardens. It is the location of the "Dianchun Pavilion", the prototype of the "Mingxuan" in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The one here is the real original.

The Master of the Nets Garden is the only garden in Suzhou that can be visited at night. From April to October every year, from 7:30 to 10:00 every night, visitors can enjoy the wonderful "Dream of the Garden—Night Tour of the Master of the Nets Garden" performance, which includes eight pieces of music, including Kunqu Opera, Pingtan, Guzheng performance, folk dance, etc. The ticket is much more expensive than during the day, at 100 yuan per person.

The Master of the Nets Garden is small, but it has everything you need and doesn't seem cramped at all. It was originally the Wanjuan Hall built during the Southern Song Dynasty and later rebuilt during the reign of Emperor Qianlong. The painter Zhang Daqian once lived in the West Garden and raised tigers here. To the north of the Master of the Nets Garden is Shiquan Street, where many delicious restaurants are located.

The night tour of Wangshi Garden is a project we are all looking forward to. Although the price is a bit expensive, the experience is wonderful. The garden at night is a different scene, very "a dream in the garden".

There are eight plays in the Wangshi Garden at night, which are quite artistic, especially at night. I suggest you don’t rush there before 7:30, it will be better if you go there later when there are fewer people.

The Master of the Nets Garden is hidden in a small alley, and few people notice it.

It was exactly 7:30 when I arrived at the ticket office, and no one was selling me a ticket yet. Fortunately, the security guard called someone for me.

The Master of the Nets Garden is a garden that really surprised me. It really made sense to come here.

When you think you have reached the end of the path, a new courtyard will appear when you turn a corner.

In fact, the garden area is really small, but the person who arranged it made reasonable use of the space, which gave people an illusion.

When walking, there is a feeling of "a new village after a dark tunnel".

I walked through the garden for an hour without realizing it. I thought I would finish it quickly.

The entrance to the Garden of the Master of Nets is in a very narrow alley. Walk eastward for about 3 minutes to the end of the alley to see the Garden of the Master of Nets. The residential area has three entrances, from the main gate to the sedan chair hall, Wanjuan Hall, and Xiexiu Tower, which are arranged along the central axis. It is said that the most classic feature of the Garden of the Master of Nets is its night garden. If you can spare the time, it is recommended to visit the Garden of the Master of Nets at night.

#Gusu Tour Fifth Stop: Master of the Nets Garden# We were originally going to Suzhou Museum, but we couldn't make an appointment online, so we had to queue up. When we got there, we saw that there were so many people, and the queue was about 200 meters long. I was at the end of the queue, but later I thought it would take two hours for us to get in, so I wanted to leave. Y said, "Why don't we go to a small garden first and come back in the afternoon." So we went to the Master of the Nets Garden, which was relatively less crowded.

The Master of the Nets Garden was built in the 12th century. "Master of the Nets" means "fisherman", which is also used to express the seclusion of the owner. The garden is also in a small alley. There are some small shops in the alley, selling cheongsams and folding fans. I bought one and put it on immediately. The owner told us that there are not many people coming to the Master of the Nets Garden during the day, mainly foreign tourists, because Zhang Daqian made a replica of the same scale in the United States, and these people are here to see the original.

When I entered the garden, I saw quite a few foreigners, which showed that what the shop owner said was true. There are free guides at the Wangshiyuan Visitor Center, which take you around for about 20 minutes. The garden is not big, about the same size as the Yiyuan Garden. The central attraction is a pond, and the water is not clear, so you can't see the clear reflections in the photos on the Internet. There is also a very small bridge called "Three-Step Bridge". Many people, including many foreign tourists, line up to cross it. I don't know why.

The entrance fee to the Master of the Nets Garden is 40 yuan, and it costs 38 yuan if you buy it online. However, the garden is small and the scenery is average. It is far inferior to Canglang Pavilion, and Yiyuan is many times better than it. In short, this is the garden with the lowest cost performance that I visited in Suzhou. I heard that it also has night tour activities, and the ticket price is 100 yuan, which is too expensive!

By Groundhog |

The garden makes good use of the techniques of contrasting and borrowing scenery, with a different scene at every step, and endless changes.

By Left Bank |

It is a small and exquisite private garden, with a garden inside and a view outside, which is exquisite and deep. It happened to rain when I came. Sitting in the corridor, listening to the rain and watching the scenery, it was comfortable and relaxing. No wonder it attracted a large number of students to come here for sketching.

The Master of the Nets Garden is my favorite Suzhou garden. I visited it a few years ago. But every time I come to Suzhou, I still want to come and see it. Ten acres of small garden, so many changes. The south gate of the Master of the Nets Garden is a white wall, simple and unpretentious.

The entrance is the Wanjuan Hall, which was the name of the Wangshi Garden when it was built in the early Southern Song Dynasty. It was originally a place for storing books, so it was called Wanjuan Hall. The current layout is from the Qing Dynasty. Wangshi means fisherman, and he wants to retire. During the Republic of China, Zhang Zuolin, the Marshal Zhang, spent 300,000 taels of silver to buy it and gave it to his teacher. Zhang Xiluan, the former Fengtian General of the Qing Dynasty, gave it as a birthday gift. It can be seen that it has another elegance.

After passing through several halls, you will reach Kansong Dushuxuan, which is a good place to cultivate one's temperament. In the 1930s, Ye Gongchuo and the brothers Zhang Zishan and Zhang Daqian were invited by the owner to live here for four years. It seems that they painted a lot here.

In front of the Pine Viewing and Reading Pavilion is the pond in the garden, which is the essence of Wangshi Garden. The large white pine by the pond is said to be a thousand years old.

Walking across the small stone bridge, there is a pond on the west side - Moon to Wind Pavilion. The name is so leisurely. I think it is a classic to watch the moon here at night.

Sitting in the pavilion, looking at the east side of the pond, there is a classic white wall with green tiles on both eaves reflected in the water. It is so simple and pleasing to the eye, and it helps to relieve the restlessness in your heart.

The Wangshi Garden is very small and hidden in the city. The night garden activities are very surprising, and you can travel back to ancient times in a minute. The ticket is 100 yuan/person, and you will feel it is worth it after watching it.

By Yidan_K |

Although the Wangshi Garden is small, it is super beautiful. There is no place that is randomly put together. The details show the skill. There are scenery everywhere, and everything is worthy of admiration.

The service center in Wangshiyuan will provide explanations every 40 minutes. There is a service desk on the right hand side of the ticket gate. You can first understand the time of each explanation, and then come in advance to queue up for headphones~

Night tour of the Master of Nets Garden. It is held from March to December every year, from 7:30 to 10:00 p.m.? ? I forgot. The ticket is 100 yuan and there are 8 programs in total. The entrance will be divided into batches, and each batch will have a tour guide to explain, which can avoid the crowd and will not miss the program. It is very humane. I visited the garden and experienced Suzhou culture. It is worth experiencing.

By Xu Gongzi's Nest |

I visited the Wangshi Garden at night, avoiding the crowds, listening to Pingtan songs, and enjoying the night view of the garden. It was great not to be crowded with people. There were five or six shows in total, but unfortunately the performance level of some shows was not very high, but considering the ticket price, the cost performance was good. You can book tickets online in advance, which is cheaper than buying tickets in cash~

The Wangshiyuan Garden is not very big. It takes about 1.5 hours to walk around. It is a typical representative of Suzhou gardens and classical landscape houses. It is not far from Canglang Pavilion. I visited both attractions. In fact, you only need to visit one. They are both of the same type. I personally think Canglang Pavilion is better for daytime travel. The transportation to the scenic spot is convenient. Suzhou Station has many buses to the scenic spot.

By Leo |

The night tour of Wangshi Garden, which starts at 7:30 every day, is probably the only program in Suzhou that opens at night.

At first glance, the 100 yuan ticket seems quite expensive, isn’t it just a night tour of a small garden? But after a tour, you will find that the price is well worth it.

The form of the night tour is similar to a garden party. When a group of tourists gathers about 20 to 30 people, a tour guide will lead them to visit the main halls and houses of the garden. At each place, a small show with Suzhou characteristics will be presented. In total, you can watch 8 shows of different styles in one round, which takes about 1 hour. Then it is free time.

The Garden of the Master of Nets was originally the Wanjuan Hall of Shi Zhengzhi in the Song Dynasty. It was built as the Garden of the Master of Nets by Song Zongyuan in the Qing Dynasty. It was originally a private manor and was donated to the country in 1950. It is also the smallest garden in Suzhou.

The Master of the Nets Garden was built in the Song Dynasty and is a paradise for photography enthusiasts. The scenery in the garden is very beautiful. Although it is not large, it is very exquisite. There are free explanations in the scenic area. Just pay attention to the explanation time at the entrance. The ticket price in the off-season is 30 yuan, and it takes about 40-60 minutes to complete the tour.

"Wangshi" means fisherman, which shows the owner's intention of fishing in seclusion. Although this garden is small, it is highly respected and gives me a very good feeling. The most important thing is that there are not many people in the garden! The garden is very quiet, with many foreign tourists and few aunties who like to occupy a spot and take endless selfies. Although the garden is not big, it is arranged very carefully and will not make people feel bored.

By Bai Xubo |

It is not as famous as Canglang Pavilion, so it is ranked one place lower. The most distinctive feature is probably the half-pavilion next to the mountain wall facing the water.

By Like strong coffee |

The Master of the Nets Garden may not be as famous as the Humble Administrator's Garden or the Lion Grove, but it does have its own characteristics and is well-known among foreigners. The Master of the Nets Garden is also the only one of all the gardens that is open to the public at night, but it also depends on the season. Please pay attention to the time.

We saw some tourists inside, but generally speaking, there were not many. Each show was in a different room, with a guide explaining in the middle. After watching one, we had to go to the next room. My son ran around to grab a seat happily. In this way, we shuttled through the Wangshi Garden, listening to Jiangnan Sizhu (Pipa and flute scene performance), Kunqu Opera "Visiting the Rat to Guess Words", Suzhou Pingtan, the famous Kunqu Opera "Dream in the Garden", and Guqin performances. The show was quite exciting, showing the characteristics and essence of Suzhou opera.

By A single leaf tells the story of autumn |

The night tour of the Wangshi Garden was quite interesting. The real-life version of the Dream of the Garden was very touching, but it was too short. I only sang a few lines. The Kunqu Opera actors were very good and performed very seriously. The selections were also very interesting. It was just that the light was dim at night and many photos were blurred.

The Master of the Nets Garden is one of the many gardens in Suzhou. It has a history of more than 800 years. The garden is not very big but very beautiful. The Master of the Nets Garden is not a very famous garden in Suzhou so there are not too many people. However, compared with other gardens, there are relatively more foreigners here. If you have time, I recommend a visit.

The right way to enjoy a night tour of Suzhou - the Master of the Nets Garden. The only Suzhou garden open at night, "The Ultimate Small Garden" is a model of fewer trees and more trees. After the rain in Suzhou, strolling in the quiet garden, there are few tourists and winding paths. The 8 programs included in the night tour, including Suzhou Opera, Kunqu Opera, Pingtan, Guzheng, Xiao, Flute, Sleeve Dance, etc., are quite ancient and are performed in various places in the garden, which is very Jiangnan!

Although there are many buildings, they do not seem densely packed; although the pond is less than an acre, it does not feel small.

It can be regarded as a model of Chinese gardens that achieves more with less.

The word "wangshi" means fisherman, which indicates the owner of the garden's intention of fishing in seclusion.

Bad review! Bad review! Bad review! The park closes at 17:30, and it clearly says that ticket sales will stop 30 minutes before closing! When we arrived, it was already past 5:00, and we could only pay in cash on site. The ticket window didn't remind us, nor did they say, "You're just short of the money for these two tickets?" I went to the scenic spot to use the toilet, and they said it was closing. The toilet closed at 5:10, and before I even started to use the toilet, the staff started to clear the area. It took 20 minutes from entering to leaving! Absolutely bad review! A disgrace to Suzhou Gardens! Didn't see anything, and visited a garden in 20 minutes! Don't waste your time and money!

I only knew it was a performance, and I didn't know the details, and I didn't expect it too much, but I was really surprised after watching it. The night tour of the Master of Nets Garden not only did not take up the daytime, but also added a touch of charm to the quiet night. Compared with the comings and goings of people during the day, I prefer to choose a night to quietly appreciate the beauty of the Master of Nets Garden. The night tour of the Master of Nets Garden starts from 7:30. Under the guidance and explanation of the staff in the garden, you can walk through the whole garden and perform opera guqin in the corresponding scenes. During the whole process, I entered the artistic conception of the Master of Nets Garden without knowing it. There are eight performances in total, including Pingtan, Kunqu Opera, Su Opera, Guqin, Dixiao, Guzheng, Jiangnan Sizhu, and classical dance. The performances are varied, not boring at all, but there are surprises from time to time, and the performances are really conscientious, all of which are played on the spot. In addition to the surprise of the performance, the night view of the Master of Nets Garden is also beautiful. The Master of Nets Garden is a representative of the small gardens in the south of the Yangtze River. The area of the garden is not large, but it is small but complete. The rockery, flowing water, pavilions, and towers are all compact and exquisite. On the evening we went there, there were several foreign friends in our group who joined us in visiting the Wangshi Garden. Although they did not understand our language and we could not even fully understand some of the Kunqu opera, the charm of Chinese culture and art still attracted people from all over the world.

I highly recommend a night tour of the Master of Nets Garden, which showcases Suzhou's rich local cultural heritage.

Compared with the Humble Administrator's Garden, the Master of the Nets Garden is relatively small, with pavilions, towers, and green trees reflecting the common format of Jiangnan gardens, but each has its own characteristics. It takes one hour to visit it. The recommendation index is four stars.

By When will we meet again? |

The Master of the Nets Garden is not the most popular garden in Suzhou, but it is perfect for holidays like the Qingming Festival. I like places with few people.

There are many children sketching in the garden, which reminds me of my university life.

The best time of the year in Jiangnan is spring💚The small but unique Wangshiyuan Garden has art students sketching in every corner🎨Come and recite with me: Wind and rain, cold and warm, searching everywhere.

The garden is small and exquisite. We bought the night tour tickets on Ctrip. The night tour started at 7:30 pm. After checking the tickets at Wangshi Garden, we were divided into several groups and led by a tour guide to ensure that we could watch all the performances. There were 8 programs in total, including Suzhou Pingtan, Kunqu Opera, Jiangnan Sizhu, Suzhou Traditional Opera, Flute, and Guzheng. The "Garden Tour" and "Awakening from a Dream" of Kunqu Opera "Peony Pavilion" were the core of the whole performance. Although the performance level of the actors was not very high, it still well reflected the local characteristics of Suzhou and was worth watching.

The night tour is expensive but worth it! At least for someone like me who never watch live Kunqu opera, Kunqu Pingtan, flute and piano, it is worth it! Watching the actors in ancient costumes perform at night feels like traveling through time. After the show, I was walking in the quiet garden with my friends and suddenly ran into the actors preparing for the next show. I was really scared... Ancient houses and so on =0= In addition, it was the first time I heard the guqin live, and my mind was really hooked! The feeling that a random vibration can hook the soul!

The night tour of Wangshi Garden is worth it! The combination of tour guide explanation and performance allows tourists to feel and understand the local culture more directly. My husband and I like the Kunqu opera performance about fortune-telling and catching "rat" thieves the most (I forgot the name of the show~), and several girls have such soft and nice voices!!! One is a girl who performs Pingtan, and the other is a girl who performs tea art. Their voices are so soft to the bone~~~

It is another garden of different style. From the roof, you can recognize the Song Dynasty architecture. The interior is not as grand as those royal gardens. It is different from the delicateness of some gardens, and even has some indescribable feeling. I like Dianchun Pavilion the most, which feels like a garden in a garden.

Wangshiyuan Garden is only separated from Nanyuan Hotel by Fenghuang Street, so it is just a short walk away.

The greatest charm of Suzhou Gardens lies in the perfect integration of beautiful scenery and strong Chinese traditional culture, which allows people to slowly experience the beautiful scenery and have endless aftertaste. If you visit various gardens in a hurry, you will lose the fun of gardens. The best way is to buy a Suzhou Garden Pass. Whenever you have free time, go to one, bring an interpreter, and stay for a day or half a day as you like. Experience the artistic conception of each couplet and the story on each Taihu stone. The second best way is to stay in Suzhou for a few days and visit a garden every day. Don't rush, otherwise you will miss the good travel experience!

The Garden of the Master of Nets is not big, but it is worth a visit. The garden was built in the Song Dynasty. The owner was also a retired official. I forgot what it was called. I only remember that the garden was called "Yuyin" at first. Later, it was changed to "Master of Nets Garden" after the owner rebuilt it. The name was changed to "Master of Nets Garden" - the master of nets is a fisherman, and it actually means "fisherman's retreat". The garden is not big, it feels like less than one-fifth of the Humble Administrator's Garden, but it is recognized as "the ultimate small garden in Suzhou" and is highly praised. The main attractions of the garden include Zhuwai Yizhixuan, Kansong Duhuaxuan, etc. Baidu will make it clear. Here I will tell you a little story, which is usually not seen.

During the late Qing Dynasty and the Ming Dynasty, this place was purchased by Mr. He Yanong (yes, the He Yanong who was good friends with Chen Qimei and Qian Sanqiang's father-in-law). He Yanong was a great collector and was good friends with Zhang Shanzi and Zhang Daqian. When the two Zhangs arrived in Suzhou, they lived here and often held gatherings with friends and painters. Zhang Shanzi loved to paint tigers (so much so that Mr. Zhang Daqian later stopped painting tigers to show respect). In order to learn the essence of the spirit of the beast king, he simply raised a tiger in the Wangshi Garden! Later, because the tiger was disrespectful to a friend, Zhang Shanzi scolded it very unhappily, and it became depressed and eventually died of illness. Zhang Shanzi was very regretful. Later, when Zhang Daqian returned to China and visited Wangshi Garden again, he specially erected a monument for the tiger when he remembered this period. This is the stone monument. It is always said that "raising tigers is a disaster", but it is extremely rare for someone like Zhang Daqian to "erect a monument for a tiger". If you are interested, you may as well find this monument in the garden. Of course, Wangshiyuan also has a collection of Mr. Zhang Shanzi's "tiger painting" works, which you may want to take a look at.

Friends who like comedy should not miss the night tour of Wangshi Garden - it is one of the classic night tour routes in Suzhou.

Wangshi means fisherman. I don't know if the free explanation provided by Wangshi Garden was good, but I feel that there are many things to see in such a small garden. It is a model of Chinese gardens that win more with less. In the episode of Journey to the West where Sun Wukong fights the monster in Wuji Kingdom, Sun Wukong fights with the monster here.

The emerald spring clouds in Chao'an are warm, and the night rain is cool under the window. Today's visit to the Master of the Nets Garden has deeply shocked me. Not to mention how wonderful the visual enjoyment brought by the beauty of the garden is, just listening to the endless stories about Suzhou gardens by a security guard in the garden who is full of poetry and books has made me understand why it is said that talented people have emerged in the south of the Yangtze River since ancient times. Just by being influenced by this beautiful place, you already have a cultural heritage that is higher than that of ordinary people. Coupled with the water culture of the south of the Yangtze River, rain moisturizes all things, accumulates the weight of history and the charm of love, and the singing of talented men and beautiful women leaves a fragrance in the soft Wu dialect.

The beauty of Suzhou gardens cannot be described in just a few words. Pavilions, towers, flowers, trees, mountains, water, poetry and paintings. In every window pane, there is a fake painting with real scenery.

The Master of the Nets Garden is located at No. 11, Kuojiatou Lane, Suzhou. It is a world heritage site and was built in the Song Dynasty. The Master of the Nets Garden is a typical private garden that combines a residence and a garden.

The Garden of the Master of Nets is located at No. 11, Kuojiatou Lane, Daichengqiao Road, in the southeast of Suzhou City. It is a representative work of medium-sized classical landscape gardens in Suzhou gardens. The Garden of the Master of Nets was first built during the Chunxi period of the Southern Song Dynasty. It was the former site of the "Wanjuan Hall" of Shi Zhengzhi, a book collector and Yangzhou scholar in the Song Dynasty, and was later abandoned. During the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, the retired Guanglu Temple Shaoqing Song Zongyuan purchased and rebuilt it, and named the garden "The Garden of the Master of Nets". During the Republic of China, the painters Zhang Shanzi and Zhang Daqian brothers rented here. Shanzi raised a young tiger. The garden is elegant and quiet, and you can hear the swaying of green bamboos and the singing of nightingales. Before the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, the Zhang brothers left one after another, and the owner of the garden fell into poverty and rented it to others.

It is a window to understand Suzhou culture. In the Jiangnan gardens, you can perform Jiangnan opera, watch the pavilions reflected in the water, smell the fragrance of flowers and trees, listen to the soft Wu dialect, and experience the natural leisure! Both day and night are interesting. During the day, you can watch the sunny weather, open the window to watch the rain, or walk in the snow to find plum blossoms. At night, a row of small lights on the outline of the building casts a layer of mystery on the garden, with richer layers, hazy foreground and deeper background!

The garden has winding paths and secluded places, which indeed have the charm of seclusion in the rivers and lakes. It is exquisite and delicate, and also has the layout of East House and West Garden. The land is only a few acres, but it has the charm of endless walking; although the house is close to the shop, it has the joy of forgetting the clouds and water.

I have only visited three gardens: Lion Grove, Master of the Nets Garden, and Humble Administrator's Garden (in that order). Today I visited Master of the Nets Garden again, which shows how much I love it. This garden is "mini" in size among many Suzhou gardens, but I want to say that you should not underestimate it because it is small, it has its own beauty.

A night tour of the Master of the Nets Garden has its own unique flavor. Suzhou Pingtan and Guzheng are all good. There is also the smallest arch bridge here, haha

The large Suzhou Classical Garden has various flowers, pine trees, rockery, and winding corridors. Being in it is like traveling through several centuries back to the Jiangnan area during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. In addition, the garden has many stories, and the objects in it are all full of allusions, so it is best to use it with a narrator and director~

Wangshiyuan is a typical private garden that combines a residence and a garden. The residential part has four entrances, starting from the sedan chair hall, the large living room, the Xiexiu Building, and the Wufeng Book House, which are arranged in sequence along the central axis. The main hall "Wanjuan Hall" is tall and spacious with elegant decoration. The sedan chair hall is at the entrance. It is said that the sedan chair weighs 200 kilograms.

The Master of the Nets Garden, one of the four major gardens in Suzhou, is not as famous as the Humble Administrator's Garden, and I don't want to go to the Humble Administrator's Garden, which has been visited many times, so I chose the slightly larger and less popular Master of the Nets Garden. I used to think that Suzhou gardens were very large gardens, but it turns out that all large and small gardens are collectively referred to as Suzhou gardens. After all, I still don't understand the exquisiteness of Suzhou gardens. I can only appreciate the ingenuity of the construction from the appearance, but I don't know the ingenuity inside. Pineapple has visited many gardens and occasionally explained a little to me. The exquisiteness of the gardens, every time you pass through a door, you will feel like you have strayed into the Peach Blossom Spring. The structure of each door and window is quite exquisite. It was another coincidence that I met a teacher who took pictures for us and led the way to explain. This time I saw a lot, such as ice cracks, windows, and the Palace of Spring Transmission. Pineapple even made an appointment to wait for the teacher at the Master of the Nets Garden the next day to visit the garden again, but I didn't make an appointment because the itinerary was set.

Parking is inconvenient near Wangshiyuan Garden, so you can park at the Shuitiantang parking lot at the intersection of Shiquan Street and Daichengqiao Road.

After purchasing your ticket, please pick up the free tour map at the gate.

"Net Master" is a fisherman, and it is also a water garden based on the spirit of fishing. The so-called spirit of fishing is to express the ambition of the forest, spring, mist and haze by using the dazzling mountains and waters, and to sit in the springs and valleys without leaving the hall (Linquan Gaozhi. Shanshui Xun), so as to please the eyes and ears and satisfy people.

Entering the entrance hall, there are symmetrical half-windows and half-walls in the north corridor, and two square patios outside the half-windows. The small east patio has a brick carving of "Suoyun" by "Danmo Tanhua" Wang Menglou; the west patio has a brick carving written by Feng Guifen: "鉏月", 鉏 means hoe, and the font is sparse, elegant and simple.

Eight programs, it is indeed a special charm to watch them at night ~ especially during the Golden Week when there are so many people, in the evening, you can occasionally hear different musical instruments playing in various courtyards, and you can imagine how happy and comfortable the owner who lived in this garden was. You can see the beautiful scenery of the four seasons by opening the window ~ If you happen to meet a talkative security uncle, he can tell us the layout and meaning of the garden better than the tour guide... In short, compared with the big gardens, I prefer the unique and quiet small garden.

We were all told to go at night, but I think it's more interesting during the day. The security guard was great and told us a lot about the courtyard. Although this attraction is not big, I highly recommend it.

I didn't pay much attention to the Garden of the Master of Nets itself. I gave it five stars because the performances in the garden are very exciting. The performances in the Garden of the Master of Nets are only held every night. After gathering at the entrance, each person pays 100 yuan, and a group can be started when there are 10 to 20 people. There are tour guides who will lead you to visit various places in the garden. There will be a few minutes of special performances at each place, including Pingtan, Kunqu Opera, dance, instrumental solo, etc., which are the most representative art forms in Jiangsu. In particular, there is a section of Peony Pavilion, which is performed in a real Suzhou garden. It really feels like traveling back to ancient times. The tour guide in cheongsam can give explanations in both Chinese and English, which is great. After watching all the performances, it is free time and you can freely tour the garden. The tour guide will come from time to time to ask if you have watched all the performances, so that some tourists will not miss some performances if they join in midway. It's really good!
