In Mudu, this cafe is recommended. The interior is spacious, and half of the garden is separated to accommodate seats. You can drink a cup of Biluochun and read a book in the garden for the whole afternoon. There is also a cat that won't let anyone hold it.

As an ancient town lover, you must go to the ancient towns in Suzhou! There are many famous ancient towns in Suzhou. Mudu Ancient Town is relatively close to the city. You can get there by subway and bus. It is free to enter the ancient town, but several of the ancient gardens require tickets. You can buy a combined ticket. If you don't enter the scenic spots in the ancient town, you don't need to buy a ticket if you just walk around the town. I think the ticket price is 60 yuan.

In the ancient town, there seemed to be no staff on the street except for the staff collecting tickets at the scenic spots. At first, we were afraid that we would not be allowed to enter the scenic area with our little dog, but we saw a family with six puppies. They were holding and leading them like a dog kindergarten.

The ancient town is also a riverside tour, and all the scenic spots are along the river. There is a strong commercial atmosphere here. There are ancient costumes for rent, and they are all rented out outdoors along the coast. I didn't go into the scenic area, so I don't know how it is. But the ancient street really has no characteristics. There is no highlight. There is no charm of the ancient town.

We only walked halfway along the river, then walked through the alley to the main street, had lunch and left Mudu Ancient Town. The whole tour took about an hour.

There is really no need to go. It is very small and has no special features. It is recommended not to go if you are not going there by chance. It is not worth it.

This place, except for two bridges and two big ancient trees, is a commercial area and has no tourist atmosphere. There are several ancient houses in this ancient town. Now they sell combined tickets and you can go in and visit them. But for someone like me who grew up in an ancient town, I know that they are all the same. Unless there is a guide, it's okay to listen. So I didn't have the pleasure to go in and see what's going on. The main reason is disappointment.



It is recommended that those who come down from Tianping Mountain should eat near Mudu Film and Television City instead of the ancient town. The ancient town basically sells costume photography, various cakes, pastries, etc., and of course there are coffee shops. There are not many formal restaurants in the central street of the ancient town, unless you go to the outside to find them yourself.

It is a bit over-commercialized, but there are not so many tourists and it is not as lively as Qilishantang.

Mudu South Street Old Covered Bridge

I saw the South Street Covered Bridge from the tourist sign, and with the spirit of not missing it if I passed by, I set out on a journey to find the South Street Covered Bridge.

Crossing the Xi'an Bridge is like crossing a watershed, separating the hustle and bustle from the deserted alleys, separating the bustling tourists from the empty alleys.

Mottled walls, old wooden windows, quiet and deserted alleys, only cicadas chirping in a monotonous and hoarse voice in the sultry afternoon. I walked a long way, but did not see a covered bridge that matched my imagination. The creaking sound of a wooden door caught my attention. I turned around and saw a local resident walking out of a small alley. I hurried over to ask for directions, but it turned out that I had already walked a long way. The enthusiastic resident took me all the way to the entrance of the covered bridge and waved goodbye. Figure 3 is the entrance. Oh my god, I thought this was just an ordinary alley.

The old man of the Feng family was probably a broad-minded person, so he agreed. After getting married and having a child, the fishmonger decided to go out and "make a name for himself before coming back." The girl then moved back to her parents' home and stood on the original stone bridge with her young child every day, waiting for her husband to return, looking forward to it, regardless of the wind and rain. The young carpenter of the Feng family admired and admired her, so he built a roof on the bridge... and the Covered Bridge was born.

If you don’t have time to go to Tongli, you can only come to Mudu to satisfy your craving. In fact, this is a residential area and the attractions here are very scattered.

As soon as we entered the scenic spot, a tricycle driver strongly recommended us to take a tour. In fact, their charges were very cheap. We had to ride for a long time, and they would accompany us to visit the scenic spots and let us take pictures. They would only introduce some specialties for us to buy. In fact, I think it’s okay to buy some pearl powder. Anyway, you can’t see the real thing when you buy it online, right?

The grandfather who accompanied us on the tour looked very sad. He said that he had been riding a bike for fifteen years. Business in Mudu is not doing well now. Yes, it is a small ancient town after all. He is willing to stay here. I guess it is because he has worked here for a lifetime and does not want to move. People are always lazy and inertial.

Ancient town, I didn't choose Tongli or Zhouzhuang, but chose Mudu

Take the subway and then the bus to get here. This place is still undeveloped, so there is not much commercialization.

Xiaoyin Garden in Hongyin Mountain House is the former residence of Shen Shou, the "Embroidery Queen". In the Gusong Garden of the Qing Dynasty, the carvings in the building hall are very beautiful. There is a 500-year-old Podocarpus in the back garden. The Yao Jianping Embroidery Art Museum on the west side of the back garden is also worth seeing. Bangyan Mansion is famous for its exquisite brick carvings, wood carvings, and stone carvings.

It is really best to travel to Suzhou in spring. It was drizzling at the time, and it felt like a scene on TV. However, it is best to go to the ancient town, and you don’t need a ticket, and you can also appreciate many local customs and ornaments.

The customs here are very pure and beautiful. It is a summer resort. We walked on the road, took a small boat, and slowly admired along the small river in the south, listening to the boat girl humming songs, and felt the cleanliness of the old ancient city of Mudu. Mudu Ancient Town, where Qianlong visited six times. It is really a major feature of the ancient town in the south of the Yangtze River. There are all kinds of old houses in it, and some houses where celebrities once lived feel more elegant than modern buildings. Lotus flowers, lotus leaves, corridors, bricks and tiles are all deeply rooted in the characteristics of ancient Jiangnan. On the way back, I bought some specialties on the way. Walking on the road, I felt that my heart became quiet. What a beautiful place.

When we went to Mudu Ancient Town, the parking lot of the visitor center was full of tourist buses and small cars, indicating that there were many tourists and it was very popular. When we walked from the entrance next to the cruise ship dock with big red lanterns hanging high, we walked onto Shantang Street with stone railings on both sides of the clear stream, and there was indeed a constant stream of people coming and going. The stone slabs were neatly lined with flower beds, big trees and gorgeous lamp posts, each of which was hung with a "Jiangnan Love" billboard. Not far away was a tall three-door stone pillar archway with upturned corners and flying eaves, but I couldn't understand the two big characters on it. Standing on the stone arch Xiangxi Bridge and leaning on the railing, I saw two clear streams flowing east and south, with willows on both sides of Xiangxi dancing in the wind, and the courtyards with deep carved beams and painted buildings, which contrasted with the calm clear stream and the red clothes of the boatmen who came and went from time to time, like a beautiful landscape painting. Not far from the ancient pavilion at the bridgehead is a small square moon gate, with a stone inscription of "Shantang Ancient Street" facing it, and "Wu Feng Song Yun" inside, which is quite nostalgic. Inside the moon gate is a bustling pedestrian street, where some people wear ancient costumes to take photos, some people choose various Suzhou embroidery, and some people sit in restaurants and teahouses. I have traveled with a group to Nanxun, Wuzhen, Xitang and other ancient towns in the south of the Yangtze River. Because the unified action was rushed, the scenery of the water town was similar, and I was also a cursory visit without understanding it, leaving little impression. But I think if these ancient towns can be planned and designed, appropriately adjusted and renovated, and strengthened and rectified, like the Mudu Garden Ancient Town, so that they have their own characteristics, and the ticket prices can be appropriately reduced to attract more tourists, thereby boosting the street economy and increasing income, wouldn't it be better to maintain its vitality? Because the ancient town is the carrier of national traditional culture and a paradise for the people, it is our unshirkable responsibility from generation to generation to pass on the torch and never extinguish it.

Each ancient town has a different feel. Mudu's business is not very developed yet, so it is relatively quiet. The five scenic spots inside also have their own characteristics. I like places with few people.
